If the AJC is going to coordinate it’s “news” stories with it’s staff submitted Vents, you’d think they could at least wait more than a day:

I’m not impressed with McCain’s credentials. I don’t see how crashing a plane on a carrier deck, getting shot down, wrestling with old men like Strom Thurmond, using the f-word liberally, dumping a cancer-stricken wife in favor of a rich one and committing adultery, and engaging in the Keating Five scandal qualifies him to be president.

you would think a comment room would engender good-natured discussions that could advance the discussion about the issues of our times, but all you get here is Wooten Thugs threatening all opposing opinions, and expressing death wishes against other americans, which, in a time of war, is like, so illegal, man.
I am moving forward with a law suit to close the wooten blog, and make the AJC pay retribution for all the death threats I personally received under the presumed umbrella of protection of the AJC. Readers are very vulnerable to the authority and institutionalization of any newspaper that has tradional reality touchstones with implications important to career and daily life.
A reader has a reasonable expectation of safety from threats when he reads the newspaper. Wooten and his ex-military national guard thugs violated that sacred trust, and they must be sanctioned. They stalked me over here from the old message boards, where there was no expectation of safety, like the sociopathic little trolls they truly are…

Over the weekend the BBC published a guide to BOTH candidates’ flip-flops. I’m sure the mainstream media here wouldn’t be so inclined.
BTW - after all the wailing about Pres Bush setting a course and never changing, regardless of new information, I find it mind-boggling when McCain changes his mind these same people criticize.
‘Course, they don’t look too clearly at Obama’s “evolution” on Iraq (which I think is a good thing).

You tend to view the president and the troops as attached at the hip. No dissent is what brought us to the current predicament. If our press and the people of this country would have pulled their heads from the sand in the early years of this presidency and asked QESTIONS, we might have been able to avoid the debacle that is Iraq.
But it doesn’t matter. Because in your on little world Bush is God, he can do no wrong. While the rest of the world wakes up and sees the light at the end of the tunnel.

Acctually, Duhsty, the “ovens” you talk about were allowed to happen because the public was too affraid to ask questions. Think of the SS. The SS used physical viloence and the spying on citizens to scare the piblic from standing up and shouting, THIS IS WRONG!
And don’t think that this hasn’t happened here. You can be arrested at the drop of a hat if they even thought you had some sort of tie to a “terrorist” group. The PATRIOT ACT, FISA, etc were all designed to watch not only terrorist, but our own citizens. Remember what Ari Flisher said: “Some people need to watch what they say.”

But hate filled propaganda from lies and twisted insinuations is not dissent but anarchy. Can you not see the difference?
We do not have SS troops in this country. That is a lie. We do have protection against terrorist by monitoring overseas calls from them. Which do you desire for the good of this country? Terrorist invasion or an effort to defeat them?

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki raised the prospect on Monday of setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops as part of negotiations over a new security agreement with Washington. It was the first time the U.S.-backed Shi’ite-led government has floated the idea of a timetable for the removal of American forces from Iraq. The Bush administration has always opposed such a move, saying it would give militant groups an advantage. Hate (Nazis) ruled Germany before WWII. There was dissent such as Bonnhoeffer, army officers in revolt, and others but they were killed by Nazi haters.
As I see it, conservatives are working against hate in politics. It really heated up after Bush defeated Gore and has been increasing ever since. It has been used against President Bush, the troops, the war and seems to favor terrorist over anything we do in America.
Now it is being used against McCain, an American hero, being treated with disdain and lies by hate filled aggresive Democrats.
Dissent arises from truth and can be beneficial.. Propaganda arises from hate and IS detrimental. That’s straight arrow, not circular.
Oh the libby trial..a two year farce to incriminate Libby in a betrayal to which Armitage had already confessed to being the culprit. Libby said he forgot what was said about Plame. He was convicted of lying, not for betrayal which was the question in the court. Another example of how hate inspired action evolves to petty politics.

@@ - Look at the post from 9:09 to see someone critical of the Viagra theme of the toon. BTW, I suspect most Viagra is sold to individuals who don’t really need it. The emphasis in the commercials seems to be on how it lasts… what, 36 hours? Please don’t jump on me about my suspicions. I’ve never had any reason to try the product, but have heard that a lot of people use it for marathon weekend activities. Probably something that transcends political persuasions.

This is a good idea on the part of the AJC - Luckovich is far and away the best part of their paper. Hacking the website could escalate to violence, given the hate and fantasies under which these people suffer.

Thanks to all for the kind words about my father. I thought I was prepared, but I wasn’t. I really haven’t accepted it yet. We dressed him in his flight jacket. he would have liked that.
I still cannot believe the amount of email traffic with lies & distortions about Obama. It is truly unbelieveable. While I detest all of it (both sides), I only hope that it reflects political views. However, I suspect too much of it represents long-held racial prejudices. I’ve heard it first-hand from some up here in the mountains. It has cost me at least one long relationship with someone who I never suspected harbored such feelings.
To listen to people claimimg that Obama wants socialized healthcare. Hell, we already have that. Hospitals have to treat you regardless of your ability to pay. At least he wants to have people pay for health insurance.

The other Bosch and I don’t buy each other b’day or Christmas presents anymore. How romantic is that? At Christmas we spend all our money on the kids (and friends/family) - we like it better that way. On birthdays we just go out.
It all started one year as I do every year by asking, “What do you want for Christmas/birthday?” Followed by same response, “Nothing.” So I decided to get that one year, and it just kind of stuck.
I feel old. That’s what old people do, isn’t it?
Hey, btw, that watermelon salad - it was no coincidence that I posted that particular recipe. I had read the watermelon/viagra story earlier. My idea of a subtle joke, a really damn good salad, and well, just being neighborly.
Anybody watch the epic Clash of the Titans, Federer/Nadal Wimbledon match yesterday? DAMN!!! That was amazing. I like tennis, not as much as soccer, of course.

Clash of the Titans was a neat movie set to Greek mythology. I made a copy for the kids to watch. A friend asked to see borrow it. I warned her that I’d edited it - there were some things I thought my kids might have trouble with. She said “oh, thank you. I really didn’t want my kids to see the parts with the princess getting out of the bath or nursing the baby.” I said “no, I left those in. I left the part out where the guy’s going into the palace and he passes the guy who’d been burned at the stake, with his abdomen hollowed out and the rest of the body recognizable.”
She looked at me like I was from another planet.
BTW - I’ve fought the “not giving presents” thing ‘cause I like opening ‘em.

The more I hear from some people this season, the more depressingly amazed I get. A woman in our Sunday School class repeated the “Obama not a Christian” charge (how she got on that… some people will find a way). The minister corrected her (yea, Episcopalians!). She looked miffed and after class I approached her and said Church of Christ is really quite a conservative branch of Christianity. Her response? “No one who is a Christian would have the views he does.”
I was tempted to go into the communal, socialistic, borderline communistic lifestyle of the early Christian church but realized the point would be lost.

I’ve been nursemaiding a new technology company that causes me to go out to San Diego & Irvine every few weeks. Perhaps I’ll find you on one of the blogs and let you know if I have a layover in DFW. The brisket there is simply the best, and I’ve never been able to come close to duplicating it. It’ll be on me.
RW, I’ve received 2 emails this week. One was titled “Is This A Dangerous Man?” and links to a 13 minute video that rhymes Obama with stupid catchphrases. The other one was a list of 20-30 quotes from Obama’s speeches and books, all taken out of context. Both preyed on fear and a person’s willingness to be led rather than think for him/herself.

I look forward to it. I grew up in northern SD county - back when it was country. For the brisket - if you can find a good cut - needs lots of fat - cover it with a rub (kind makes a huge difference) seal it in foil, stick it in a 225 oven and forget about it for about 15 hours.

I’m sure there aren’t many, but they also alternately think they know everything and then nothing about me.
Isn’t just changing planes at DFW a layover? If it’s the same as it was when I was traveling a lot it seemed like if I had a tight connection it was all the way around that huge semi-circle and if I had a couple hours it was at the next gate, but as far from the Crown Room as you could get.

I’m completely serious about both the number of email accounts I have to maintain and the fact that I have never received a single one of those emails. Sounds like you need to work on your circle of acquaintances.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. I noticed that the Russert book Big Russ and Me made it back to #1 on the paperback best seller list and up to 2 or 3 on the hardback. You may want to pick up a copy if you haven’t read it.

I think I know what happened to Lucko: the bile that the RIGHT secreted on this blog acted like salt on the feathers of Lucko’s creative bird. I warned him.
