Today, President Bush announced that North Korea has turned over a statement describing its nuclear program, prompting Bush to lift sanctions and rescind its designation as a state sponsor of terror. The news is a step “toward reintegration into the world community and rapprochement with the United States,” the New York Times observed.But the developments come after seven wasted years by the Bush administration. In his book, State of Denial, Bob Woodward reported that in a conversation between then-Gov. George W. Bush and former Saudi ambassador Prince Bandar, Bush wondered why North Korea even mattered: …..Through aggressive diplomacy, President Clinton reached the Agreed Framework in 1994, under which North Korea agreed to freeze nuclear production for the next eight years. In 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell said the administration will “pick up where President Clinton left off.” But Bush objected to returning to Clinton’s diplomatic approach. January 2002: Bush labels North Korea a member of the “Axis of Evil.” December 2003. Vice President Cheney: “We don’t negotiate with evil; we defeat it. “ April 2005: North Korea appears to unload nuclear reactor with up to another 15 kg of weapons-grade plutonium. October 2006: North Korea tests nuclear bomb.The Bush White House accused Clinton of sending “flowers and chocolates” and instead took Cheney’s hard line. In fact, Bush once shouted to Woodward, “I loathe Kim Jong Il!” and mocked the dictator at a dinner with senators, calling him a “pygmy.” In the meantime, North Korea continued to acquire greater nuclear ability. Today, the Bush administration still refuses to use similar diplomacy with Iran. As blogger Steve Clemons noted, “We ‘engaged’ North Korea and blew it with Iran.”

In December 2003, Dick Cheney said the White House would not engage North Korea. “We don’t negotiate with evil; we defeat it,” the VP explained.And for quite a while, that was the totality of the Bush administration policy towards North Korea. Bush once shouted to Bob Woodward, “I loathe Kim Jong Il!” Soon after, the president mocked the N.K. dictator at a dinner with senators, calling him a “pygmy.”The approach didn’t exactly pay dividends, and North Korea’s nuclear arsenal grew while Bush and Cheney saber-rattled. Eventually, Bush came to appreciate the Clinton policy; the president began negotiations; and the results are striking……Steve Clemons provided this political context this morning: “Barack Obama’s inclination towards engagement with problematic leaders around the world now is now buttressed by an experience of the George W. Bush administration.”…. Bush “finally got a nuclear deal with North Korea because he finally started negotiating like Bill Clinton.”…. The good news is Bush finally realized Clinton’s approach represented progress, and the policy of his first six years in office represented failure. The bad news is, Bush’s foolish delays strengthened North Korea considerably. Better late than never, though. Given a choice between obstinacy and diplomacy, Bush eventually came around, which in turn, makes Obama’s policy of engaging with foreign rivals look pretty good.

RB, the democrats are not whining that relations have been established. Dems are emphasizing that diplomacy should always be utilized prior to military force. Iraq is a puppet government just like the one the Soviets installed in Kabul during their war with the Afghans.

Karzai is a puppet government as well. Hell, neither of them is even a sovereign nation since they have to get U.S. approval to wipe their Arses. Otherwise, they’d be able to prosecute Blackwater and other contract mercenaries who kill innocent Iraqis with impunity and never face charges.

If I’ve learned anything in this long and hard-fought campaign, it is that mistakes are inevitable. You simply cannot spend long days, day in and day out, under the media microscope and never once stumble, never once misspeak. My friends I know very well that I’m not perfect, and I can assure that were I ever to believe otherwise even for an instant, my wife and daughters would not hesitate to set me straight!

Now it has come to my attention that me preceding, frankly staff-generated post in fact means nothing; that it consists entirely of emotive words strung together in what to some of my eager campaign muffins must’ve sounded highfalutin and appropriate for a candidate with all fans and no plans.

So I retract that post, and take full responsibility for the mispublication. The next time I get an idea, you’ll know.

Why he’ll Abe, you know he can’t shoot for sh!t, and besides that old things been rode hard and put away wet so many times that it’s looser than a Tegucigalpa camp follower. He uses Blue Loctite just to keep the bolt from coming back and taking his nose clean off. That thing’s so old, David Janssen used it when he went enacting with Duke Wayne. No kidding. I saw it listed on. A mob auction site awhile back with a lot of OJ’s old jerseys and survival knives, but I don’t recall’s how anybody put in a bid on it or anything.

So when he says he’s still got that old relic, you’d best take him at his word and not come around his windows with a crowbar. He’s likely to hurt himself. Blowing off one’s nose to spite one’s face, so to speak.
