Pretty good one today, but if I were a Democrat, I would be in a huge quandry. Which to choose between two really weak candidates. These two are starting to make John Kerry look good!!! One could describe Barak Obama the way William Jennings Bryan was once described: Shallow like the River Platte in Nebraska - an inch deep and a mile wide at the mouth.
Hillary just is not likeable. The other problem with both of them is that they are radical left-wing extremists in the Clement Attlee mold (British P.M. 1945-1951) ready to nationalize anything nailed down.

Oh yeah!

Then it struck me how the Rangers are a microcosm of King George II’s reign.

Historians are loath to predict the future. It is impossible to say with certainty how Bush will be ranked in, say, 2050. But somehow, in his first six years in office he has managed to combine the lapses of leadership, misguided policies and abuse of power of his failed predecessors. I think there is no alternative but to rank him as the worst president in U.S. history.

Okay, I just read where the Delta CEO got $11 million in compensation - and the salaries of other top execs. Now, I know that most of that is stock options, but still.
Now, I do not agree that the government should bail out private companies - well, in the airlines situation, okay, after 9/11 they may have needed some help, but that’s an exception. But should anyone be surprised when the super top executives get that kind of compensation and then said company starts having money woes?
That’s really irritating to me, and I’m sure pretty irritating to the 1000 people at Delta who lost their jobs yesterday.
Now, I’m just a commoner, proletariat, if you will, starving artist type, granola crunching, Birkenstock wearing, t-shirt/cargo shorts wearing, tree hugging (Oh my God, I AM a hippy!) kind of guy, and I really just do not understand that kind of business.

Bosch,
NEW YORK — A construction worker’s bid to curse the New York Yankees by planting a Boston Red Sox jersey in their new stadium was foiled when the home team removed the offending shirt from its burial spot.
After locating the shirt in a service corridor behind what will be a restaurant in the new Yankee Stadium, construction workers jackhammered through the concrete Sunday and pulled it out.
The team said it learned that a Red Sox-rooting construction worker had buried a shirt in the new Bronx stadium, which will open next year across the street from the current ballpark, from a report in the New York Post on Friday.
Yankees president Randy Levine said team officials at first considered leaving the shirt where it was.
“The first thought was, you know, it’s never a good thing to be buried in cement when you’re in New York,” Levine said. “But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing?”
Of all my regrets, never seeing a game in the House that Ruth Built ranks right up there! But I have made it to the other half of the sacred mecca - Cooperstown.
And just like his adoration for the equally losing Bush-league administration, those “accomplishments” listed by {{{Mr. Baseball}}}} just make real baseball fans (at least the non-desperate, non-loser types) shake their head and laugh.
What a great Friday to be a non neo-con!
Just knowing that a moderate RINO or a Dem will sit in the Oval Office in a few more months is enough to boost the nation’s flagging spirits, is it not?

But when things seem too good to be true, they usually are. There was no way Obama could measure up to the supernatural image his supporters and the media painted of him. Yes, indeed. Did you catch the VERY last scene, that wasn’t really a scene but it was Adama and Chief talking - Tory must have set it up as some accident.
Yes, two Cylon human hybrids - a boy and a girl - and we all know what happens when boys and girls get together!
Starbuck is crazy, I mean, we all know she’s crazy, but she’s especially crazy now - I liked that camera shot with the camera underneath her and all you could see was her shadow as she was talking down to Anders - creepy, she’s crazy - the painting and the talking about feeling removed from her body since they entered the nebula - the same nebula when the others “woke up.”
That’s all a set-up - the writers are messing with us, or maybe they know that the watchers know they are messing with them, and we’ll all think that Starbuck is too easy, kind of reverse psychology.
Oh, why do I let my mind do things like that!

Hillary is no innocent here either. She has quite a few bad apples in her barrel as well. The difference is, most of her dirty laundry has been aired for so long people are inured to it. This is what I do not understand about the Republican Party. All they can do is slander, smear, distort, and out right lie about their opponents.
Yet, they cannot even talk about the complete disaster their own party has left the country in over the last eight years.
All the right can come up with is flag pins, bittergate, rev wright, etc. They all mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
They cannot argue the issues, so they have to smear the messenger instead.
When people do this, they are voting against their own future. They are voting agsinst their own self interests. What these people should be worrying about is that McCain said that their jobs weren’t coming back instead of a flag pin.
It’s the issues, not a 2 dollar Chinese import pin.

Earlier this week, The War Department launched a campaign to persuade President Roosevelt to drop the adjective “German” when describing Nazis. Indeed, one of Roosevelt’s favorite talking points is railing against “German” storm troopers and the Gestapo. But the Roosevelt Administration has refused to budge, saying that he will continue to refer to Germany when talking about Nazism.

Well, of course! A perfect example of questioning the process, not focusing on the ‘results.’
Health care averages, what, 6, 7 thousand bucks a year per person? Millions don’t have any. Millions more have less than optimum coverage. Millions have full benefits but don’t pay a dime. So it ranges. But most, I’d say, think they pay a lot or don’t get what they think they should for the premiums.
Then along comes someone who asks them - and this is just great - “Hey, if you had full health care, would you be willing to pay, say, 500 bucks a year?”
And they said… (can you guess the answer?)… yes!!!!
In the vernacular of the times: well, duh.

On the day Katrina struck New Orleans, John McCain was meeting with President Bush on an Arizona tarmac in order to be presented with a cake; the occasion was his 69th birthday. In the next months, McCain used his position in the Senate to vote against Medicare relief and unemployment benefits for homeless New Orleans residents, and against investigations into what went wrong. But McCain understands the forgotten city, and McCain is alarmed by the inaction of senators such as himself, and McCain vows to investigate what went wrong so that it will not be repeated. w00t, until the GOP takes full ownership of the debacle they have created, there is going to be very little change in their approach or the outcome this November.
Admitting they have a problem, a BIG problem, is the first step.
And for the their still apologetic and strident fans to admit they were duped would be also be healthy.
The secret is out.
And there are countless disgusted Republicans who now realize (way too late) that this gang of goons was not remotely close to the being “conservative”. Nor were they remotely close to being competent.
For proof look at the primaries where the GOP voters showed their unwillingness to nominate another knuckle-dragger of the seven or so candidates available on the slate.
And I believe most American voters will not make the same mistake as that made in 2000 and 2004 in their polling place this fall either.
Except for in a few slow-witted outposts and of course, here in the Moron Belt.
And for those ever dwindling, desperate, intentionally ignorant neo-cons, it is going to be a VERY, VERY long summer.
So the joyous news is that even if McCain wins the White House, the frauds and fake conservatives that have hijacked the GOP are still going to get smoked in countless other races in a few months.
Bet on it…

getalife - Although I would NEVER vote for Hillary for anything, I have to agree that she would make the strongest candidate. The latest analysis that I read in the dr’s office yesterday in Time Magazine confirmed that. Obama cannot carry the blue collar/Catholic/lower income/non-college educated vote. His showings in Pennsylvania and Ohio showed that. This really has very little to do with race and a whole lot to do with elitism and playing the race card. Too many people are also uncomforable with militancy - either racial or political - and he has supporters who are just too radical.
Hillary has her own problems. She is not likeable and she is seen as mean. However, people (wrongly) see her as at least competent.
Obama will only carry a few states. He is already behind in places where he should be quite safe, like Wisconsin and Michigan, both Midwestern states with shakey economies. The Democrats are going to have real buyers remorse when they endorse another Michael Moore/moveon.org candidate.

Obama admits to having attended “socialist conferences” as a “community organizer” in Chicago in the late 1980s, where he broke bread with Democratic Socialists of America lefties—also with full-circle connections to William Ayers.
But that is hardly the extent of Obama’s fascination with Marxist ideology.
According to my colleague, Cliff Kincaid, Accuracy in Media editor and president of the UN watchdog group America’s Survival, Obama was mentored for most of his formative years by black radical Frank Marshall Davis, a Communist Party USA member. Obama had “a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis,” writes Kincaid.
In his book, Dreams from My Father, Obama refers to “Frank” repeatedly, and said that Davis “and his old Black Power dashiki self” was still mentoring him as late as 1979, when he was a student in California. Davis warned Obama that college would give him “an advanced degree in compromise” and not to “start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that s**t.”
Kincaid notes that a CPUSA devotee recently said of Obama’s political fortunes, “Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary ‘mole,’ not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through.”
Obama’s record speaks for itself. In 2006, Senator Obama campaigned for the re-election of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who openly lists his party affiliation as “Socialist.” Sanders applauded freshman Sen. Obama as “one of the great leaders of the United States Senate,” and understandably so. Last year, National Journal, which rates members of Congress strictly by their voting records, ranked Obama as the single most liberal member of the Senate—a remarkable “achievement,” given the Socialist bona fides of the aforementioned Sanders.

Well, the Bush Administration could have been quicker to recognize their intervention was required with Katrina.
What is often not mentioned is that the Bush Administration had a philosophy of deferring to local officials - not just disaster relief, but in a host of areas. Was rather a point of Republicanism.
What they may have not realized, in spite of the training, drills and megabucks, was the incompetence of the mayor and governor (hey, just what are we supposed to do with our National Guard, anyhow?).
FEMA was not organized as a first-response force. They were backups for the locals. So a day late and a dollar short, the Feds intervened. And the Democratic political machine spun up. Too bad they weren’t as good at managing disaster response as they were at managing PR.
I pointed out after - be careful what you wish for. And it’s already in motion - in other words, on disaster relief, as well, likely, on other issues, the Feds will not defer to the locals. They’ll come in and take over. You asked for it, you got it.

getalife - you are right that the Dems are crazy to run Obama, but you are dead WRONG that Hillary wins easily. She does better than Obama, just like Muskie would have been better than McGovern, but she still loses. She has way too many negatives, and the race card has been played way too much by the Obamacrats and too many of the Democrat base will just stay at home. This fight has crippled (hehehehehe) the Democrats.
Over a quarter of Hillary’s supporters say that they will vote for McCain if Obama wins the nomination and another 17% say that they will just stay home. That is not good. Obama cannot win with those kinds of losses from his base either.

A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents had told him to shut up, authorities said Wednesday.
German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.
They had been in the audience to hear the Bushes talk about their children’s book, “Read All About It.”
“He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, ‘What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books,’ ” said John Lovetro. “He was unperturbed. I said, ‘Get out of here! You’re being a moron!’ “

Peter Bergen’s interviews with OBL are very interesting. I like Peter Bergen - but I digress.
I don’t care if they are rare - I don’t like the guy, and certainly do not trust anything that comes out of his mouth - I see Scalia as one of the players with the aura of mistrust that oozes from this administration.
I see your point though - I just don’t care to hear anything the man says because I think anything that oozes out his mouth is tainted, especially anything he has to say about Bush v. Gore 2000 - that still makes me sick to my stomach to think about.
Katrina - failures in all levels. Katrina was too big, too many things went wrong. Those images of those people stranded at the Superdome will forever haunt us and I hope they do - I hope NO ONE EVER FORGETS THOSE IMAGES - it’s a national embarassment on many, many levels.
Katrina was a giant storm that took us off guard. Complete and utter chaos - too big for any one level of government. Whole freaking towns were gone - still gone - and they won’t come back. I don’t think you can fairly lay blame on the govenor and the mayor without laying it on FEMA, Homeland Security, and whoever complete and utter cooks neglected those levees (whichever branch of government that is). Think about what they were going through at the time - sure they could have kept their cool, but just put yourselves in their shoes, it was complete chaos - and humans tend to act a little whacky during those times.
It’s not fair to blame one level of government without blaming them all, because they all failed.

Look at this picture of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic - notice anything weird? Now that is a 20 year old picture, but I still think it’s interesting.

I am going to run a baboon against insane mccain so he will have equal knowledge of the economy as John Mccain. They can both push a button, and both have no original thoughts, mimic others like King George, have totally irrational thoughts and behavior, no reasoning or internal dialogue, use faulty logic, and just do whatever comes to mind…and can change their mind at any time without worrying….ignorance is bliss for king george and insane mccain….but not for the rest of us….they have leader of the pack mentality and do not work well with others…baboon/mccain ‘08

By Paul April 25, 2008 2:46 PM hey, just what are we supposed to do with our National Guard, anyhow?).
Perhaps I’ve forgotten some of the details, but wasn’t the state of Louisiana (and other states) coming up short of N G at that time? Some little tidbit about too many NG in Iraq???

Now, the AJC has been online for awhile now and has a few smart people working there (Keith Credendino, Dan Smart, to name 2). But invariably the Luckovich image is distorted. Stop trying to cram a 512x367 image into a space 378px wide. It’s amateurish.

Andy,
I may have not forseen the storm that fell on my head, but I’ll stick with the real science on this one - we disagree, big deal.
I feel it is my human duty to keep our planet as clean as possible and to be environmentally friendly and use less energy, and consume less stuff. I’m working on the later, and with gas prices the way they are, I’ll be walking alot more - even though I walk alot now.
There certain topic on this blog that I try to avoid because, well, to be honest, it’s just a matter of opinion - none of us are climatologist and know the answers. Everything we write is opinion based on our beliefs. So I leave it at that. I disagree with you, and it’s really all that simple - no name calling, that’s all.

Future Gen, The courts will always have faulty logic, because it’s made up of humans. We humans always screw things up when we try to “judge”. God’s logic doesn’t fail though. His law is that you reap what you sow. It may take awhile sometimes, but you can’t escape God’s judgement.

No brains. No think. No talent.
Just mouths flappity flappity. If you horrid monsters knew how SICK I was of your mealey mouth understanding of virtually every topic you blog about…..
How can adults be this simple? HOW? Either you hack some other source and get it totally wrong, or you blog nonsense hoping some dolt replies more nonsense.
How did any of you get past the first college class? The educators must have given up, and just sold out.
So now we’re a country of dummies. Nationhood for Dummies. How to be an instant dope. for dummies.

I believe that is one of the “urban legends” that’s been cited but it’s not the case. BTW - states can have numerous units of the Guard (state) and Reserves (Federal). I’d be surprised to learn all units within a state would be activated and deployed overseas at the same time.
Bosch, too -
I think I indicated all level share responsibility. But many afterwards painted it as “All Bush” and “Nothing Else” - no surprise, there.

From here on out, you’re going to see earlier Fed intervention with local authorities compelled to agree or step aside.
And in a number of areas, that ain’t necessarily a bad thing.

Greetings fellow goons and klanners-
I have some rather terrible news to break to you mouth breathers, you great unwashed mass of stupidity that makes the dimokrat party the great, mindless machine of ignorance that we are all so proud of, brace yourself, for what I am about to tell you will bring much horror and cause you to shiver with fright.
Bruno is on her way to this rally as I speak.
Please, please, could you keep your screams and moaning down to a dull roar, I am not through speaking yet.
Yes, I know that she will be bringing her usual pestilence and defiled corruption with her, and that All Seeing Depraved Eye will cast it’s dead uncaring gaze in your direction as it schemes on you, but remember, as we have told you before, as evil and as horrible as it may seem, she’s going to give you boneheads free health care.
But be especially careful today, you morons, for Bruno is angry, even more than her usual lamp throwing idiotic rage, for she has finally figured out what we have all known for quite some time now, that Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” is the only reason that she has not been sent back to thee trailer park from whence she came.
And now she arrives, prostrate yourselves you slobbering dunderheads, and give a warm welcome to thee Great White Power and Thee Blessed and Bountiful Giver Of Government Benefits, Ku Klux Rodham-
“Eyes comes heres toodays, to gives youse peoples an eyepology. Seems as dough eyes havent’s been berry honest wit youse. When eyes told youse that eye was shot at by sneypeers in Bosnia after r corkscrew landen, I waz not actwally tireds as eye tolds you beefore.”

“Wat mades me say that, about thee sneyepeers, is dat eye nose dat my voters are a bunch of uneducated dimwits, who well beleaves any ting eye sayz. And ussualee, thee pinko media will just ignores my lies, like they did for thee previous two decades. Eyes forgots that they like thee Black Crack Dealing Muslim Terrorist more dan dey do me, and next tings I nose, they was showing on thee TV me strolling from dee airplen as though eye was in Anbar Province or sum place safe like that.”
“So there, eyes have comes klean.”
“Doos eye needs to kry?”
“Will youse pleez votes for me now?”
You heard the woman, you stupid sullen wretches, has she not shown that she has great respect for your ignorance?
With that and some shiny government trinkets for you to cling to, have thee White Power Heathens not given you all that you need and deesire?
So hop aboard your horsies, you blooming idiots, put your pointy little cap on your empty head and spread thee words of Bruno throughout thee land, er, I mean words of Ms. Rodham, heh.
Seig Heil!

Paul,
Please tell me my sarcasm is not lost on you. After all, Warren Buffett is certainly a model of a Capitalist.
Now on another topic. I just read two articles about John McCain. One observed that he wants this campaign to be about issues, without all the lies, spin, and mudslinging. The other article is about an interview in which he observes that Hamas wants Obama to win, and the voters can draw their own conclusions about that.
If these stories are accurate, then I must conclude that John McCain died in the Hanoi Hilton, and what we have left is something like the Manchurian Candidate. But instead of being a political assassin, McCain is trying to become…the hypocrite-in-chief?

These two democratic presidential candidates need to just accept the fact that they should both be on the ticket. Now, get on with it. Rock, Paper, Scissors — that’s how I beat Gore and Kerry both. They pick paper and I pick rock and I beat the crap out of them and they drop the paper and I win — every time. You just got to know how to deal with your enemies. Beat the crap out of ‘em first and then ask ‘em if they did anything wrong. If they are still able to speak, then beat the crap out of ‘em again. It works every time for me.
