So nice to know that the same lunch bucket idiots that have given us the last eight years are continuing to have such an impact.

Being that the idea of voting for the future is but a pipe dream, might as well fully embrace looking out for number one and screw everything else. Yes, the GOP has won again. BIG night for the fear monger rightwing.

This man is definitely out of idears.

Lucko should reread “the far side” cartoons from another era and get the weird back, the ingenious twist, the unexpected payoff. This oatmeal sticks to my throat.

One of the funniest stills I ever saw came in a Simpson cartoon, where Homer is plunging 1000 feet to his death off of a cliff and the children who are around are all prone, peering over the cliff silently but totally absorbed with watching the fall. Luckovich has a little bit of that in the posture of the couple, except that the cartoon needs a larger contrast between the event being watched, which should be a calamity, and the quiet disposition of the observers.

Sunspot activity has not resumed after hitting an 11-year low in March last year, raising fears that - far from warming - the globe is about to return to an Ice Age.

Astronaut and geophysicist Phil Chapman, the first Australian to become an astronaut with NASA, said pictures from the U.S. Solar and Heliospheric Observatory showed no spots on the sun.

He said the world cooled quickly between January last year and January this year, by about 0.7C.

“This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record, and it puts us back to where we were in 1930,” Dr. Chapman writes in The Australian today.

“If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over.”

Now that Hillary has put a smack down on Obambi in PA she really needs to point out the hypocrisy in his Super Delegate message. According to Barack’s people the SDs should just blindly follow the “will of the people” as if they are mindless sheep (they’re Democrats so they are mindless sheep, but I digress) and play no independent role.

That would be alright on it’s face, but Obambi took the endorsement and SD vote of New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson where Hillary won, albeit narrowly, and now has taken the endorsement and SD vote of Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry where Hillary trounced Obambi.

Why is it that only SDs thinking of supporting Hillary have to follow the “will of the people?” Oh and Hillary, you also need to remind people that even though they won’t count your Florida delegates, they have no right whatsoever to leave the Florida popular vote out of your total.

Though there are not quite the number of phony Christian nut jobs and uneducated flat-earth types there …

Another great edition of FrontLine last night.

It was a replay from 4/07 on Man-induced Global Warming.

Not that this is news to anyone watching with eyes open, Bush was shown to be a liar. While campaigning for president, then Texas Governor George W. Bush pledged to cap carbon dioxide fumes and require power plants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions “within a reasonable period of time.”

Less than a year later he broke that pledge.

And again the always delightful Dickhead Cheney reveals himself to be one of the very worst American politicians EVER as he submarines EPA Director Whitman with more of his accomplished sleaziness.

“Obama: “Day one I call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff and give them new marching orders!””

Well, that’s really scary for someone trying to play down the “experience” factor.

The Joint Chiefs don’t run Iraq. They are comprised of the heads of the military services, whose function is to train, equip and organize their services. The Chairman, JCS is the principal military Advisor to the Pres.

The commanders of the unified commands are in charge of warfighting in geographic areas and report directly to the SecDef to the Pres (bypassing the JCS). For Iraq that’s Central Command.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff plays an important role in the chain of command by relaying communications and overseeing the activities of the combatant commanders. While the Chairman, JCS can exert “influence” and his advice is crucial to both the Pres and SecDef and combatant commanders, he technically commands nothing.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination Wednesday, calling him an inspirational leader who can unite the country.

“I believe Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington,” Henry said early Wednesday in a statement released by the Obama press office in Chicago.

The endorsement one day after the Pennsylvania primary gave Obama the official support of three of the state’s 10 superdelegates, while Clinton has the backing of one superdelegate. The rest are uncommitted.

Henry, a moderate Democrat in a Republican-trending state, said he had worked hard to build a consensus across party lines on such issues as education, job creation and health care and “that is why I am so enthusiastic about Barack Obama’s candidacy.”

“Senator Obama understands that the serious concerns facing average Americans must transcend partisan games if we are to rise to the challenges of today and tomorrow. He is a strong, committed and inspirational leader, ideally suited to bring together Democrats, independents and Republicans,” Henry said.

Obama said he was proud of Henry’s support “as we continue to build our grass-roots movement for change.” He said Henry had “achieved real results” as a consensus builder himself in Oklahoma.

“We’re fortunate to have Governor Henry’s backing, and I look forward to working with him in the months ahead to bring about real change not just for Oklahomans, but all Americans,” Obama said.

Henry became the first major Democratic elected official from Oklahoma to endorse Obama. The state’s only Democratic congressman, Rep. Dan Boren, remains uncommitted as a superdelegate, although his father, David Boren, has endorsed the Illinois senator. David Boren is a former governor and senator.

The 44-year-old governor’s endorsement came despite Obama getting only 31 percent of the Democratic primary vote in Oklahoma’s Democratic primary on Feb. 5 against Hillary Rodham Clinton, who got 55 percent.

Barack just sent out this email…

Friend —

In a state where we trailed by more than 25 points just a couple weeks ago, you helped close the gap to a slimmer margin than most thought possible.

Thanks to your support, with just 9 contests remaining, we’ve won more delegates, more votes, and twice as many contests.

We hold a commanding position, but there are two crucial contests coming up — voters will head to the polls in North Carolina and Indiana in exactly two weeks. And we’re already building our organization in the other remaining states.

But it’s clear the attacks are going to continue, and we’re going to continue fighting a two-front battle against John McCain and Hillary Clinton.

I need your support right now. Please make a donation of $25:

Wasn’t trying to put anyone in their place - more clarifying for the benefit of those who read here. (RW - DoD has many, many people - mil and civ - many of whom are more concerned with one or two levels above them. Altho they prob had this in class, many soon forget).

Actually, I didn’t say the CJCS reports to the Pres - he does through the SecDef and is the principal Military Advisor to the Pres. The Pres and SecDef comprise the National Command AUTHORITY and they, plus the VP; Chairman, JCS; Director, CIA; SecState; the National Security Advisor, plus others by invitation, comprise the National Security Council.

Many use the terms National Command Authority and National Security Council interchangeably, which is not correct.

It’s Wikipedia, but there’s a decent explanation and a wiring diagram not too far down. Many people do well in visualizing thru a wiring diagram.

Link: Chain of Command

But the bottom line is Obama needs to be careful when discussing national security issues, particularly in referring to the military, as he will be the Commander in Chief. Many come to office not at all clear on these issues, but in Obama’s case, given the “experience” theme (first raised by his Democratic opponents, not Republicans), misstatements will be easily exploited.

Truthman - you assume facts not in evidence. I was not for bailing out the banks, but most of you Democrats were. You also would be the first to complain if the banks were allowed to go under and the system just collapsed. The government also did NOT bail out the banks anyway, they just insured the loans so that other banks could do it. Democrats like Schumer were the first do advocate this course of action.

Also nobless oblige is a rather condescending term used by people who want to do the minimum and have the GOVERNMENT do what they will not do as private individuals. Statistics show that conservatives are much more generous with their money than liberals when it comes to charitable giving.

Also, one of the most pathetic things I have watched lately is Ted Kennedy stuttering through his explaination of why his family has NEVER paid an inheritance tax when this tax is used to redistribute income and takes 55% of everything over $600,000 from small businesses and farms and moderately well-off individuals and families. You folks just need to pay the higher taxes if you think taxes are not high enough. And when taxes are raised on businesses then prices go up and only the consumer (the average guy) is hurt, because taxes are business expenses which are passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices. This is just a fact.

Bosch, @@, Paul et al,

I’m divorcing my church, not very amicably, over their rigid intracongregational seggregation policies, especially in Bible studies and in Sunday school classes. They do everything but racial seg., and it’s finally driven me off the reservation. The church’s exacerbation of the school system’s already ludicrous policies of age and sex seg. of pre-adolescents (middle grades) was the real deal-breaker for me.

Any of you see room for compromise here? I’m thinking of making a prodigal’s return to my erstwhile Anglicans (with whom I no longer have anything ecclesiastical in common except a love for traditional liturgy), or otherwise going the opposite direction. In middle age it presses on me increasingly that I mustn’t waste a minute of my remaining allotment doing dances I don’t believe in. We have to live almost all our waking hours trapped in expert systems that treat us cybernetically; church I’d like to be a respite from the daily tutorials in The Bureaucracy of the Future.

Hey everyone its me, aka Glenn.

The reason I’m leaving my church is the ridicule I’ve received from my fellow congregates. Last month I took in my favorite Butt Roast that looks just like the head of Jesus so everyone at church could savor in its glory. Alton Brown attends my church and I was sure everyone would understand why the Butt Roast Bust is so important to our church. It was a message from God. Delivered to us in an image that confirmed our most favorite Food Network Believer was attending the right church. Instead they laughed and ridiculed me.

The segregation at the Sunday bake sale further divides us. The Bundt cakes are put on different tables than the layer cakes, as if they are special. Who the Hell cares what kind of cake you are eating??? And why should a stupid Bundt cake cost 2 more dollars than the equally delicious layer cakes??

Anyway my Butt Roast Bust of Jesus is still up for bid on E-Bay. I had it signed by Alton Brown, Food Network Star, so its value has increased.

Thank you, Paul & @@, for your thoughts on this. I feel guilty for not having what I’ll call the sense of humor—-& ergo remove—-with which you two are able to bypass the increasingly worldly structures.

Maybe I’d be better off in a primitive, rather than an executive and mock-erudite, environment. I’m accustomed to having to overlook a lot—-as I loathe the institutionalization of folkways—-but when no provisions are made, from more than a dozen study groups, for men and women to study together, or for adults and children to do so, then something’s amiss.

But it’s the travesty of the schools’ age & sex seg. for middle schoolers that really broke my hump. Twelve year-old boys manifestly have nothing but age in common with twelve year-old girls, and if it isn’t facially obvious to the religious educators, there’s 40 years’ worth of gratuitous Carnegie research to back up the finding that this chronological ghettoization is a mere administrative expedient counterproductive of educational purposes. From the perspective of religious education, the sexes should be mixed, but not solely with the same age. The chronological fetish is just school sorting.

So the problem is that these young people are kept from Christian communion and conspiration with others who, depending on the exact setting, are not of their gender or not of their precise age.

That adults studying Scripture are separated by sex, age (several times) and even marital status is to me the kind of nightmare the Nazarene found and from which He was forever trying to awaken people.

So that leads to the most disturbing part (and please don’t take offense, @@), which is that the secular structures the church has adopted and even exaggerated actually countervail the church’s Gospel message. It may even be that while we are busy trying to teach the Gospel, in fact we are teaching the structure. (There’s compelling evidence of this also.) So that would mean that we are teaching children to love the education system and to depend on IT lifelong. And since the education system is a political instrumentality, this is, as you might imagine, quite distressing. After all, who, in Matthean Gospel, is the god of politics?

Unfortunately, the Basra blunderbusses in the American media haven’t.}}}}

The shallow dwell on the past, while the realists look to the future.

And what a future they have in Iraq.

Bwa.

Sin’s not opposite from the mark. Sin’s a metaphor anyway. To sin, in both Koine Greek and (interestingly) Aramaic, is to miss the archer’s mark, especially by striking short of it. (In archery this denotes weakness—-a weak draw.) Note that the archer aims at the correct mark before missing. Archers use misses, of course, to zero in on their marks.

“One over, one under, one on,” saith the artillerist.

Pretty humane reading, eh? Much forgiveness in it. Much understanding.

Global warming is just another junk science, full of ifs and maybes,…

And your religion just preempts everything in your mind and precludes you from seeing anything you can neither understand nor accept.

Whether it’s gravity, an expanding universe, natural selection or quarks.

It’s cool, though Andy.

Keep repeating your mantra over and over and over. And we’ll see how many people you and your kin “convert”.

But one thing is for certain. The future of this planet and mankind’s role therein will definitely NOT be entrusted to people like you.

Bet on it…

Prophetess, based on what I’ve seen in this world for the past half century, I actually believe hell would be preferable to hanging out with these “Christians” for all eternity!

Jesus shaves…

PNAC:

(((Japan and Germany were the aggressors)))

Apples and oranges?

I’ll give you that, but isn’t it plum amazing how the ME is now taking a hard look at religious extremists within their midst. Moderates are the key. Followers of the true Islam. There are a lot of good sites out there where their disdain for the extremists is loud and vocal.

Deliver to the region their own war. The war that they (the extremists) declared on the U.S. With the help of the moderates, freedom of and from radical religion can and will prevail.

AmVet, you don’t get it about AGW, do you? There’s something of greater concern. A still more serious phenomenon: there’s nothing more serious than a new idea coming suddenly to dominate academia, politics, economics, domestic life, even religion—en route to its stated intention to condition every remaining department of the lives of every human being—and yet still be somehow unassailable, incontestable, indisputable, inarguable. As you know as well as anyone, there is terrible Western precedent for this phenomenon.

Glenn:

I have to share this lesson in humility with you before I go. We had a young guy in our youth group, 15. He was every girl’s dream, and he knew it. Very popular among the girls in high school. As a result, he showed them little respect. I planned a game night.

He and his best friend (a good sport) were asked to balance a potato on the bridge of their nose. A large funnel had been placed in the waistband of their slacks. The object was to drop the potato into the funnel. He didn’t notice that the girls whom he had been disrespecting were holding bottles of water. At the count of three, he and his buddy were to drop the potato.

The girls filled the funnels with water on the count of two, soaking the front of their slacks. Initially he was mad….frustrated, whatever. His friend, who I was counting on told him that he deserved it for the way he had been treating the girls. He apologized, learning a lesson in humility. His friend, who wasn’t all that attractive by a young girl’s standards became an overnight success with the girls.

Scuse me PNAC.

Make that “freedom of religion and from radical extremism can and will prevail.”

“…unassailable, incontestable, indisputable, inarguable…”

And if that were actually the case it would concern me, Glenn.

It is not.

The scientific method is impartial. If the validity of the “findings” of those who oppose the overwhelming evidence that supports it were superior, I would be swayed.

It is not. It is not even remotely close.

There is much uncertainty about global warming to be sure.

There is very little uncertainty that most of the naysayers are loons that essentially fall into the two camps: 1) ill-informed willfully blind, liberal hating religious nut jobs as seen on this blog and 2) corporate wh0res and their paid for “scientists” who don’t want to lose any revenue.

In either case I cannot be convinced they give a flying f&ck about this world or its inhabitants.

But again, they are ultimately going to have no say anyway…
