Yeah and they are both right.

{{{{BENEDICT XVI IN WASHINGTON: Pope praises, >>>>warns U.S.<<<<- But he later warned that this secular tradition often prevents Americans from living their beliefs fully, accepting divorce, abortion and cohabitation outside of marriage.-Urinal}}}}
The Word of God is not a “warning,” you heathens.
On a beautiful day of affirmation, the people of the world’s church coming together to break bread, praise what is good and celebrate their Saviour, look at the sicko things that the Urinal dwells on:
{{{{For the second day, on his first official visit to America, the pope acknowledged the pain caused by the sex abuse scandal that has divided and weakened the American church. He called the behavior of pedophile priests “evil” and agreed that the scandal as it unfolded was “sometimes very badly handled.”-Urinal}}}}
It is depressed, angry world in which these liberals live, firmly planted in the dust of this lowly Earth, from whence the liberals came, of what they worship and to where they shall return when they are dead.
Forsaking the Glory of the heavens for this brief and fleeting moment in a world mired in sin.
~~~~~
And the big winner is:
{{{{Clinton came across as craven and dishonest, while the normally eloquent Obama buckled under tough questioning about his relationships with former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. When the debate moved to policy, both candidates contradicted themselves repeatedly and revealed the hollowness of their liberal positions.}}}}
Oh my:
{{{{And so goes the rank irresponsibility, the outlandish rhetoric, and the flat-out denial that the United States is a morally defensible actor on the world stage, from Democratic leaders on issue after issue after issue. On the Colombian trade agreement, a crucial pact with our closet ally in South America. On acknowledgement (or refusal thereof) of Saddam’s ties to terrorists. On the nature and history of al Qaeda. On both political and military progress in Iraq. On the actual conduct of American interrogations of “enemy combatants.” On missile defense. Again and again, according to Democratic congressional leaders, there is no health in us. We, the United States, are the bullies. We, the United States, are the dishonest ones. We, the United States, are in the wrong. And conservatives who believe otherwise are not merely mistaken, or incompetent; we are liars, torturers, bloodthirsty, authoritarian, racist thugs.}}}}
{{{{So say the congressional leaders of the American Left.}}}}
{{{{They cannot possibly believe their own bile. It is bile based on no evidence, no logic, and certainly not a shred of good will. And it is bile so virulent that it can be described only as a pathology. It is a pathology whose effects, if not motivations, are so profoundly antagonistic to the American tradition as to be potentially deadly. It is a pathology that must be defeated, by all honest and lawful means. And then replaced with a responsible Left, if such a thing still exists in this country. Unfortunately, whether such a thing exists in any decent numbers is very much an open question.}}}}
His face is basically the Al Qaeda recruiting poster. (And would also make a great diet aid—one look and you lose your appetite.)
Pray tell, panty waists, what does the EUnech know about drilling for oil, other than soaking up the oil for food money?
Read the article that I posted late yesterday, what the Urinal says today is absolute nonsense and anti American filth. The Iraqis are soliciting oil deals from the entire world, anyone who’s qualified.
Why do you lie, Angela?
Yeah, Bushie’s a real environmental terrorist now, sure thing:
{{{{While setting a broad goal, the president offered only a general outline —- and few specifics —- about how to achieve the objectives. Heat trapping “gases:” 95% water vapor.
Good luck with that endeavor, you baby killing POS.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate Jay Kookman’s whining about the traffic issue, but could he at least not make stupid suggestions:
{{{{And an east-west connector would almost certainly fail to generate enough toll revenue to pay for itself.-Urinal}}}}
Nonsense.
Anyone who’s seen GA20 during rush hour, or has cold hard facts about how many trucks travel through Atlanta from I75 to I85, knows full well that the Northern Arc would pay for itself.
This is just knee jerk “environmental terrorism” cloaked in financial “concerns.”
John McCain’s opposition to the GI Bill appears to be rooted in a concern “that a generous education benefit would persuade soldiers and Marines ending their tours to pursue an education rather than reenlist in the overstretched military.” “He’s the odd man out,” VoteVets chairman Jon Soltz said of McCain. “You have 55 co-sponsors on this bill, and he’s not one of them. Actual driver education, traffic signal coordination, better signage in congested areas (such as “Keep Moving” even if it is in giant flashing neon lights,) enforcement of the “Slower Traffic Keep Right” laws even if it means pulling the dragas-ses from their cars and beating them to death (just kidding.)
All cheap, easy solutions that could be implemented right now and make a difference immediately, that is if traffic congestion was even of a minor concern to our bureaucracy, which I truly believe couldn’t give a F less.
I’m 50/50 on banning heavy trucks from 7-10 and 4-7, it is a logistical thing for the trucks t overcome but I truly wonder why any dimwit truck driver would want to park on some expressway for hours on end, forcing this on them may actually improve their productivity.
Northern Arc not just from 75 to 85 but from 75 to 20 also, it would be a boon to Paulding and Douglas counties.
Probably the most significant thing we could do that would provide almost immediate relief, would be to take the current hierarchy at GDOT and hang them by the neck in some public place, or less harshly, fire their incompetent as-ses and replace them with people that care.
Agree. Now watch it continue through the other debates and into the general election. And watch the stuff the “advocacy groups” will come up with make last night’s topics look like weighty concerns.
IThN 8:26
Shouldn’t the headline read “Sen WEBB shows us how to kill an army”?
Serious question: how does Sen Webb’s proposal impact Sen Clinton’s and Sen Obama’s pledges to rebuild the military? How can you rebuild something if you’re offering incentives for people to leave?
(disclosure: the above question was not taken from a web site, right or left wing, or a tv show, or a columnist, or a talking head).
IThN 8:38
This was the most embarrassing media conduct of a Presidential debate? Do you really think it eclipses the moderator who asked Sen Thompson to raise his hand?
IThN 9:28
Hate to point out the obvious, but Soltz is a lobbyist. Didn’t you say a week or two those folks are evil? He’s the head of an organization that lobbies for anything they can get from the taxpayers. Want soldiers to pay for the food they eat instead of having taxpayers feed them? Want military to pay for their own uniforms like any other government employee? Want to change the rules that let higher-ranking officers rotate into a combat zone (let’s not talk about redefining a combat zone - you’d be surprised at which countries qualify) a couple days before the end of the month, stay a few days into the new month and fly out, so they can qualify for tax-free pay? Try any of that and listen to how you get labeled by these organizations.
Obama is an elitist. Just because one comes from a ‘working-class’ background does not mean that one cannot become a perfectly crashing bore and snob. The examples of that (the nouveau riche) are legion.
Obama proved his liberal elitism with his comments in San Francisco. He only ‘mangled’ his words or ‘misspoke’ because he slipped up and said exactly what he meant in front of a group of other radical, effite, big city liberal types who look down their noses at anyone from the ‘country’ or who shops at a Walmart, Kmart or Target. He has said these types of things in the past, but this time was the most egregious.
He also performed poorly in the debate last night. On what little subtance there was, Hillary ate his lunch. He is really all hole and no doughnut. His continued attempts to explain why he has continued certain associations also continued to be lame at best.
I understand why he and Hillary do not want to be too substantive. European-style socialism, which the advocate, has been dealt serious blows in the most important nations in the last few years. Labour has abandoned its radical leftism for the ‘new’ Labour in Britain. Socialists have lost elections in Germany and Italy during the last year and one half. Hillary and Barak are both advocating such policies which have bankrupted Europe in a way that Americans do not understand and cannot comprehend.
Who won last night’s debate? John McCain!
Setting the Record Straight
Do you think it’s possible Obama was telling people from one background what to expect when they go to an area with people of a diametrically different background to serve as campaign workers?
If he was in PA talking to these people, who were going to go to San Francisco to work the campaign and Obama said “these are people who are pretty well off. They don’t bat an eyelash at paying $800,000 for a 1600 square foot house. Don’t expect to find many bowling alleys. Hunting is a foreign concept, so don’t bring up the Weatherby you just bought. Oh, and don’t say you’re self sufficient with food unless you’re talking about vegetables. And these folks haven’t set foot in a church for years, so expressions like “bless you” may not go over well.
Now go turn out the vote.”
Andy,
I agree with you about those solutions, especially the truck driver one, and the public hanging (just kidding), but we can’t blame it all on GDOT, and not hold our legislators accountable too. I think to overlook developing good reliable public transportation (while some may think that an oxymoron) that expands out into the burbs is outrageous.
I too get frustrated with boob drivers who stop in the “Keep Moving” lanes, and drive 40 mph in the fast lanes. They need to be the ones who ride trains.
I read an article today that apparently I missed a couple weeks ago about a plan in Cobb to use existing rail lines and change those to commuter rails. What’s so bad about that?
I live about 2 hours from Atlanta but I am in Atlanta about two/three times a week. I would love it if I could drive about 1 hour of that, and then catch a train the rest of the way. And if Atlanta would implement a system like the Metro in D.C. (that’s the only metropolitan system I’m familiar with) use these to get around within the city.
And, I’d go to Atlanta alot more if that were the case - to concerts, shopping, etc. I mean, let’s face it, while I love my little town, I’d occassionally like some REAL sushi instead of Floyd’s catfish sushi. Know what I mean? - I’d do all my shopping at Whole Foods if I had an easier way to get there.
Morningstar,
I agree. I know people who drive less than a couple of miles to go to a gym! Why not walk and add to the workout? The traffic problem is part of a mindset in our country that needs to change - people aren’t inconvenienced enough to demand a change. I have a feeling that $4/gallon gas prices might get some to start thinking about better public transporation systems, but most will just put it on their credit cards and not think about it.
Paul - I would agree with you except that I lived in San Francisco (1985-1991) and then in the ‘snooty’ part of Los Angeles (1991-1993) before returning to Atlanta. These people don’t look at themselve as just ‘different’ from their fellow countrymen in the hinterlands, they believe themselves superior because they are much too intelligent to believe in (gasp) a god, and they truly believe that guns cause violent crime, even though people who are licensed to carry firearms rarely commit violent crimes. I’ve been to many political meetings and I even worked on two mayoral campaigns in SF and one in LA, so I think I know of what I speak. I have seen people go completely apoplectic over remarks such as: “There is nothing wrong with going skeet shooting” or “the happiest moments of my childhood were at church.” Bigotry and ignorance and contempt for those who are ‘different’ from you are much more profound amoung the liberal ‘elites’ than it could ever be in modern rural America. I know because I have been part of both and I rejected the former out of disgust!
“Why don’t you support our troops?”
Don’t you see that’s in the same category of saying Sen Obama isn’t patriotic because he doesn’t always wear a flag lapel pin?
Supporting troops is not defined by how much money you spend on them. If you don’t accept that, we can go back and forth with me proposing, say, full retirement after five years service and asking you, if you don’t support it, why you don’t support the troops. Silliness.
So you reject the concern that paying such a benefit would encourage people to leave service who might otherwise stay? I’ll refrain from asking you why you support the troops but hate the military institution (note: that last sentence was the sort Hillary used, again, against Obama last night: “I want to run a respectful campaign. But you know those Republicans - they’ll conduct a dirty campaign, so I won’t bring up the time Obama met with… or when Obama said… or I won’t remind everyone of Obama’s promise to…. I won’t say any of that because we’re running a campaign based on the issues”).
So a person (Soltz) who heads an organization that proposes benefits for a particular category of people, who works to persuade Congress to have the gov’t pay for those benefits, who enlists others not eligible for those benefits to gain support from their Congressmen, you’re saying he’s not a lobbyist?
The “sun rising” wasn’t serious. Just a sad commentary that (especially given the headline of the link) these people are going to continue to blow themselves up and murder kids and civilians as they do so.
But your second comment, the “Pick Paul or N” - same as the other day with General Powell. Seems that when you don’t want to explore an issue, you default to “here we have these experts and here we have Paul” - in other words, a belittling attempt.
So you’re saying: an original thought or idea is restricted to people of certain education, experience, race or sex?
Copyleft - Hillary and Barak are both wonderful examples of the truth of this proverb: “It is better to sit quietly in a corner and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” They do that constantly.
McCain has done some of that himself. But he has been wise enough NOT to badmouth his opponents for the nomination. He ran a very positive campaign, although I did not agree with him about 30% of the time, I would rather have 1/3rd a loaf than none. With Barak or Hillary, they would get 100% of my hard-earned loaf. Then they would give it to the LOAFERS!
McCain has actually been quite clear about his positions on all of the issues. He has taken quite a bit of criticism. However, he has managed to stay above the fray and it has helped. It is remarkable that 25% of Hillary supporters and 20% of Obamacrats have stated that they will vote for McCain if their candidate loses!! Polster Luntz states that he has never seen anything like it when he did his focus group last night.
Who Loves America?……. STEPHANOPOULOS: Senator, two questions. Number one, do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do? ……..Who loves America? Jeremiah Wright loved it enough that while Dick Cheney was getting his string of five deferments, Wright voluntarily gave up his student deferment, left college and joined the United States Marine Corps. Wright was valedictorian of his class in Corpsman School. When asked about the sacrifices he’d made, Wright said he was inspired by the words of John Kennedy that he should “ask what he could do for his country.” And he did that at a time where there were many restaurants in this country that wouldn’t serve him food, hotels where he could not get a room, neighborhoods where he could not hope to live, and whole states where he could not obtain justice. That, damn it, is how much Jeremiah Wright loves this country. What Stephanopoulos asked isn’t fair, because there are very few people who have expressed their love for America as clearly as Reverend Wright, especially when America — then and now — rarely seems to appreciate their dedication.
I disagree.
I’ve been a part of both too, and have seen just as much bigotry and hatred from those who claim to be God fearing conservatives. Liberal or conservative, it doesn’t matter, an a*******hole, is an a*******hole.
In my opinion, that’s where you get clouded in your judgement, you assume all liberals are a*******holes while turning a blind eye to the ones on the right.
Just because you experienced it does not make it a fact, or even remotely true. It can, however, certainly become a basis for your prejudices.
I’ve had some pretty horrible personal experiences with fundamentalist Christian conservatives who’ve committed acts like murder, rape, and adultery. That’s the basis for my prejudices, but I don’t think every single fundamentalist Christian is a murdering, raping, wife/husband cheating a*******hole. It just makes me a little less trusting.
No, I agree with you that a jerk is a jerk, however, the biggest jerks that I have met have happened to be on the left. I’ve met some dillies on the right too. However, the contempt, the hatred and the absolute intolerance for those with different ideas is rampant on the left. Liberals are too quick to call others stupid, rubes, ingorant, uneducated, etc… Ann Coulter has done too much of that on the right, but most conservatives and neo-conservatives have not hurled those epithets. They use terms like “misguieded” to describe those with whom they disagree. They also show more sorry than contempt, especially with those on the radical left who spend their time actively denegrating religion and religious people - the Madelein Murray O’Hares of this world. That woman is a good example of someone who just dripped with contempt and hatred for anyone who held a contrary view. The fact is that radicals tend to be elitists. They often claim not, but God forbid that they attain power, because then they go about shutting up all who disagree with them. In this country, the elitists just happen to be on the left. True radical rightests are just few and far between here. That is why they stick out so much.
I’m not too interested in style. More substance. Not too interested in Party affiliation or the place in the world of a person who says something. It’s more about the ideas.
I’m a tad suspicious of orthodoxy, be it religious or political. In fact, I find many of certain political affiliations to be much more dogmatic, and critical of those who disagree, than many religionists. I don’t distinguish between Left and Right, here.
When people raise a point in a forum such as this, I’m interested in how they see things. I’m willing to accept lots of contradictions in people, opinions and performance. Witness my statement I’m not all that concerned with the personal lives of politicians. Many of the sites I read seem to use any issue as an excuse to attack a person or Party.
I think hypocrisy exists in both parties. I think candidates regularly exhibit traits I refer to as being human. I’m regularly astonished when people paint everything on their side as defensible, but cannot concede any good for anything on the opposing side.
I do enjoy many of your links. It’s difficult to tell through writing, but many of them I find downright entertaining. When I write “what about this?” it’s as much to have a bit of fun, point out the world isn’t black and white, and show that which one supports or attacks oftentimes depends on who said it, not upon what was said.
I like to discuss pros and cons of the candidates and issues. A pro is not support and a con is not lack of support. It’s just exploring ideas.
I’ve a family member who has said the same “I may not know all the details, or examples you do but I know what my life experience is and what my gut tells me.” We discuss things in a different manner - not possible on this forum - and I learn a great deal.
So keep the good ideas coming, please. And don’t forget to smile -
You mentioned Soros and Franken, and as far as just pure hatred, I hardly ever listen to Limbaugh and only see Hannity at night, but I bet you cannot cite the kind of vitriol and hatred that is spewed by the left these days coming out of them. As a matter of fact, Hannity seems to get along quite well with many liberals, especially Bob Beckel.
Devil: The problem with McCain’s “win by default” strategy—if you can call it a strategy—is that eventually, he’ll be up against ONE Democratic opponent, not two.
And then he’ll have to make a positive case for himself, and try to win over the Republican base who alternate between loathing him and trying, self-consciously, to pretend he doesn’t exist.
Somehow, I don’t see that translating into a victory for McCain. Which, obviously, means it WILL be a victory for America!
(Heh heh, he said Pastorgate)
Certainly the respect is completely gone from the institution of the presidency. Nixon started it. Bill completed it. Bush mispronounced it.
Civics class and Sex class merged with Monicagate. Our youngest children come to the age of reason knowing about the only sin that can destroy their souls: sodomy. They’re experts, thanx to the GOP’s media flood about Clinton. Once that genie is out of the bottle, eh?
Not only are the Generation Sex experts in perversion, they dont even consider it sex or sin. You cant mention politics or the white house without Generation Sex imagining Deep Throat. Irony rules the universe so it’s not suprising that deep throat has stayed alive as the most influential poll material for 35 years.
Ten plus years of Lewinski Tales have our young voters now immune from Rushannity’s propaganda. How can nuances in syntactical gaffs compete with deep throat? Rushannity is effectively neutralized. And for a long time to come.
That’s why Obama is the first real teflon president. Voters are using a sixth sense. They cant rely on anything else.
Good point. Did you happen to see John Stewart the other night. Interesting perspective, he said something along the lines of “Don’t we WANT an elitist president? Isn’t that job an elitist position? I WANT someone smarter than me to be the president. If you do a good job at this position, you could have your HEAD carved into a MOUNTAIN!”
Seriously, do we want an uncultured couth running things? NO!!! The current and president before him were uncultured bumpkins. If a presidential candidate cooking outdoors at his “rustic cabin” conjures images of Abraham Lincoln and a modest log cabin, that is no doubt fine with McCain. But McCain’s “cabin” isn’t quite like what you might imagine a “rustic cabin” to be. The property is worth more than a million dollars, and has both a guest house and a third house next door for additional “living and entertainment space.”*
AND
10 things to know about McCain….He’s one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a “second job” and skip their vacations.
I stay quite busy with other pursuits, but thank you for your concern. Since the day this board opened I have come by to discuss issues and explore other people’s thoughts and opinions. I stop by here occasionally even now and make the same attempts, but frankly there are very few people here anymore with any desire to debate, you being the worst offender of all. It’s not my blog so the way it’s run is none of my business, but I find it very telling that the left came in here willing to debate and after a few months of being thrashed with logic and reason your ilk has devolved into spammers, conspiracy theorists, and namejackers almost exclusively.
Frankly my advice to you was a heartfelt and sincere olive branch because as a news/opinion aggregator you have a tremendous talent to quickly spread other people’s work. That you choose to dismiss the idea simply because I was the source of the advice tells me a lot about your ability to reason and I can fully understand why you would not want your own words standing next to those you admire so.
Time to head out. Those golf balls aren’t going to hit themselves.
Did you see the debate last night?
If you did, you saw more gotcha politics and distractions than questions about the pressing issues affecting our country.
In fact, it took more than 45 minutes before Barack was asked about the economy, health care, or foreign policy.
Regrettably, Senator Clinton seemed all too comfortable with that type of debate. She’s running a 100% negative campaign in Pennsylvania, taking every opportunity to make personal and discredited attacks against Senator Obama.
You can send a message that politics doesn’t have to be played this way.
Senator Clinton’s false, negative attacks are exactly the kind of say-anything, do-anything politics that the American people are tired of.
That’s why polls show that the majority of Americans think she’s running the most negative campaign, and 58% of voters do not find her honest or trustworthy.
Barack Obama wants to end the politics of division and distraction in Washington so we can bring about real change for ordinary Americans.
The stakes are too high to play the same old games. More than 1.3 million supporters have responded to Barack’s message of change, and with your help we can reach 1.5 million by May 6th.
ABC News moderators Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos seemed to be playing a game of gotcha at last night’s candidates’ debate. (By Matt Rourke — Associated Press) By Tom Shales Thursday, April 17, 2008; Page C01
When Barack Obama met Hillary Clinton for another televised Democratic candidates’ debate last night, it was more than a step forward in the 2008 presidential election. It was another step downward for network news — in particular ABC News, which hosted the debate from Philadelphia and whose usually dependable anchors, Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, turned in shoddy, despicable performances.
This Story Obama Pressed in Pa. Debate In Pa. Debate, The Clear Loser Is ABC The Fix: Keystone Kerfuffle: First Thoughts The Fact Checker: Pennsylvania Democratic Debate Candidate Profile: Barack Obama For the first 52 minutes of the two-hour, commercial-crammed show, Gibson and Stephanopoulos dwelled entirely on specious and gossipy trivia that already has been hashed and rehashed, in the hope of getting the candidates to claw at one another over disputes that are no longer news. Some were barely news to begin with. The fact is, cable networks CNN and MSNBC both did better jobs with earlier candidate debates. Also, neither of those cable networks, if memory serves, rushed to a commercial break just five minutes into the proceedings, after giving each candidate a tiny, token moment to make an opening statement. Cable news is indeed taking over from network news, and merely by being competent.
Gibson sat there peering down at the candidates over glasses perched on the end of his nose, looking prosecutorial and at times portraying himself as a spokesman for the working class. Blunderingly he addressed an early question, about whether each would be willing to serve as the other’s running mate, “to both of you,” which is simple ineptitude or bad manners. It was his job to indicate which candidate should answer first. When, understandably, both waited politely for the other to talk, Gibson said snidely, “Don’t all speak at once.”
For that matter, the running-mate question that Gibson made such a big deal over was decidedly not a big deal — especially since Wolf Blitzer asked it during a previous debate televised and produced by CNN.
The boyish Stephanopoulos, who has done wonders with the network’s Sunday morning hour,
At the time, Fiorina was a prominent defender of the offshoring of American jobs –- or, as she called it, “right-shoring.”……….Now she is advising Sen. He even voted against an amendment to require companies to pay taxes on money they earn from foreign-made products sold in the U.S.
cont..”This Week” (as, indeed, has Gibson with the nightly “World News”), looked like an overly ambitious intern helping out at a subcommittee hearing, digging through notes for something smart-alecky and slimy. He came up with such tired tripe as a charge that Obama once associated with a nutty bomb-throwing anarchist. That was “40 years ago, when I was 8 years old,” Obama said with exasperation.
Obama was right on the money when he complained about the campaign being bogged down in media-driven inanities and obsessiveness over any misstatement a candidate might make along the way, whether in a speech or while being eavesdropped upon by the opposition. The tactic has been to “take one statement and beat it to death,” he said.
No sooner was that said than Gibson brought up, yet again, the controversial ravings of the pastor at a church attended by Obama. “Charlie, I’ve discussed this,” he said, and indeed he has, ad infinitum. If he tried to avoid repeating himself when clarifying his position, the networks would accuse him of changing his story, or changing his tune, or some other baloney.
This is precisely what has happened with widely reported comments that Obama made about working-class people “clinging” to religion and guns during these times of cynicism about their federal government.
“It’s not the first time I made a misstatement that was mangled up, and it won’t be the last,” said Obama, with refreshing candor. But candor is dangerous in a national campaign, what with network newsniks waiting for mistakes or foul-ups like dogs panting for treats after performing a trick. The networks’ trick is covering an election with as little emphasis on issues as possible, then blaming everyone else for failing to focus on “the issues.”
Some news may have come out of the debate (ABC News will pretend it did a great job on today’s edition of its soppy, soap-operatic “Good Morning America”). Asked point-blank if she thought Obama could defeat presumptive Republican contender John McCain in the general election, Clinton said, “Yes, yes, yes,” in apparent contrast to previous remarks in which she reportedly told other Democrats that Obama could never win. And in turn, Obama said that Clinton could “absolutely” win against McCain.
Barack Obama wants to make sure that voters do, even if it was 16 years ago that Hillary Rodham Clinton created an uproar when she sniffed that she could have given up her career and “stayed home, baked cookies and had teas.”
While Clinton brought up the problems Obama could face in a general election if he’s nominated, Obama used a two-hour debate Wednesday night to remind Americans what they don’t like about his opponent and her husband, Bill, the former president. Both candidates argued they were tough enough to withstand whatever Republicans try to use against them.
Obama raised President Clinton’s controversial pardons on his last day in office. And he wanted Americans to know that Hillary Clinton repeatedly called him names in the past few days.
The point was to tie Clinton to the divisive politics of the past at a time when a new poll shows that a majority of voters view her as dishonest. The loss of voters’ trust comes as Clinton has been attacking Obama for comments he made recently about Pennsylvania voters who “cling to guns or religion” because they are “bitter” about the economy — statements that he maintains he mangled.
“During the course of the last few days, you know, she’s said I’m elitist, out of touch, condescending,” Obama said.
“You take one person’s statement, if it’s not properly phrased, and you just beat it to death,” he added. “And that’s what Senator Clinton’s been doing over the last four days.”
Despite the signs that her criticisms may be backfiring, Clinton did not pull her punches against Obama. Yet she tried to soften the blows by delivering them in polite tones and often with a smile. She said his “bitter” comments demonstrated a misunderstanding of religion in people’s lives. And she said he has other weaknesses that could hurt him in the general election — his relationship with a controversial pastor and 1960s radical William Ayers.
“I’ve been in this arena for a long time,” Clinton said. “I have a lot of baggage, and everybody has rummaged through it for years. And so, therefore, I have an opportunity to come to this campaign with a very strong conviction and feeling that I will be able to withstand whatever the Republi
AJC Management AKA Luck,
With respect to Hillary and Barack’s comments about religion, let me just say that the God has clearly forsaken us. Otherwise, we would not have gays, liberals, abortions, terrorist attacks, miscenegation, unions, taxes, regulations, bans on machine guns, unions, the minimum wage, seperation of church and state, condoms, sex education, pre-marital sex, divorce, the Democrat Party, nudity, bikinis, cross-dressing, trasn-sexuals, pornography, rock music, pop music, rap, dancing, Hollywood, immigrants of non-European descent, and any and all other things that we as God-fearing Americans detest and abhor. God will only reclaim his alliegance to America after we have eliminated, by force, all of these things from the country. Until then its pointless to talk about religion and politics in the same conversation.
Personally, I’m sick to death of people like you are confronted with these evils described above and have neither the guts or the dedication to God to go out and kill these people immediately. You are either with Him or against Him. As far as I can tell you are as bad as these people because you tolerate it and do nothing but type. A very insuffcient response when you realize that some one is out there sinning against God and thereby leaving our children open to attacks by heathens.
The other choice of course would be to admit that we are all free to do what we like as this is a free country and that what we really ought to do rather than divide ourselves over personal moral issues that instead we seek to bring all Americans together to solve the issues that confront us all collectively.
So your choices are: 1) do something like kill for Christ. 2) Try to get along with your neighbors who may not live up to your own lofty moral standards and recognize that we are all Americans or 3) just shut the hell up.
So what’s it gonna be are you gonna put up and kill some liberals with me, or cowardly type away? Or will you vote for Obama to try to end the divisions that keep us from recognizing and solving the problems that confront the country?
I bet I know your answer: coward!!!!
(((Increased demand for biofuels is no small factor in rising prices, either. The International Grain Council has calculated that 6.5 percent of grain grown in the 2007-2008 agricultural season will be used to produce biofuel. Barring a rapid backlash against biofuels worldwide, increasing percentages of grains will be used in biofuels throughout the next several years. The United Nations has said that this continued rate of development of the biofuel industry will leave 1.2 billion people hungry by the year 2025.)))
(((A fungus that affects crop growth has spread beyond East Africa into southern parts of the Middle East. John McCain, who is so desperate to avoid substantive talk on Iraq, the economy, his own legislative history, and his wholehearted endorsement of all of the nuttiest of ultraconservative and Bush administration policies, himself has a substantial “preacher problem”. What if Adam and Eve didn’t eat the apple, but only said they did. What if Eve did stand under the apple tree, and the snake did move in on her to talk, but he clumsily knocked an apple off and that apple fell and hit her on the head, from which she deduced the laws of gravity and physics and figured everything out. So she tells Adam to put on some fig leaves and act ashamed to fool God into thinking they both ate the forbidden fruit. Now the bible says that God deduced that Adam and Eve ate the apple because they scattered appple seeds around the garden as they walked along much the same way that the dinosaurs spread trees around, that is, the seeds were expelled in the manure as they grazed and spread out. So God noticed the apple seedlings where they shouldn’t have been and put two and two together in the garden.
But what if Eve figured it out and planted the seeds around, and clothed themselves to make it more believable and tricked God into banishing them from the garden.
But why would anyone want to leave the garden of eden? Stay tuned for part two of: Women are smarter than God.
Do you really think the Clintons need McCain to tell them that Barack’s Sayings from Nob Hill were condescending toward the “ant people”? Or do you think that McCain hadn’t noticed the condescensions until Hillary spoke of them?
More importantly, do you really think that voters any longer need candidates to tell them what to think about information that millions of voters had the same instant the candidates had it? Do you suppose that the DNC-AJC can spin a ball already in the reader’s glove?
Nice lesson, keep up the good work.
This just in from Factcheck. Kinda funny in a morbid sort of way.
“Clinton said “people died” in 1970s bombings by a radical group of which an Obama acquaintance was a member. In fact, the deaths were of three members of the Weather Underground itself, who died when their own bombs accidentally exploded”
Who says Darwin wasn’t right?
and another:
Clinton claimed that applying Social Security taxes to wages above the current cap “would impose additional taxes on … educators … police officers, firefighters and the like.” Actually, not many of them would be affected. The cap is $102,000 a year.
Factcheck needs to dig a little deeper (see, IThN? I’m even skeptical of Factcheck!). “Educators” includes college profs. Remember that “Native American” at Boulder? Well over $100k. Not unusual. Take a look at many school districts administrators. Same. Firemen? Same. Eye opener: Police. Take a look at pay with overtime for those near retirement when retirement is computed based on last three years’ salary. Quite a little scandal in Houston.
Best part is: they’re all “public servants.” Kinda like the idea that a midlevel ‘servant’ earns over $100k a year. Without benefits.
I was going to wait until tomorrow morning - more seem to scan through then, it seems, but on this Webb bill:
Did you mean to type “36” months and missed the “6”? The bill provides benefit at 36 months. You are correct on the amounts. It’s full tuition.
Plus a grand a month for incidentals. Books and such.
Plus a housing allowance, equal to the rate paid a midlevel sergeant. Now. a midlevel sergeant gets about $730 a month, tax free, if they have dependents and live off post. With an extra allowance if they live in a “high cost area” (which seems to be most of the US). So it can go up to $2500 a month for an apartment allowance.
Webb’s bill is here:
Link: Webb’s GI Bill
Oh, and for the argument it’s to help them get back to a good civilian job real quick: the benefits are good for 15 years. So much for that ‘logic’.
Paul,
Saying “people died” is technically accurate and the intent was certainly to kill innocents. Obama saying that this was forty years ago when he was 8 doesn’t wash either since ironically there a piece in, I believe the New York Times, published on September 11, 2001 by William Ayers saying he only regretted they didn’t do more and by this time Obama had been kissing the guy’s ring for six years.
The main body of the bill says 36 months in the section that talks of qualifications.
