{{{{But there is a little-known episode Clinton doesn’t mention in her standard campaign speech in which those two principles collided. In 1975, a 27-year-old Hillary Rodham, acting as a court-appointed attorney, attacked the credibility of a 12-year-old girl in mounting an aggressive defense for an indigent client accused of rape in Arkansas - using her child development background to help the defendant.}}}}
{{{{Rodham, records show, questioned the sixth grader’s honesty and claimed she had made false accusations in the past. She implied that the girl often fantasized and sought out “older men” like Taylor, according to a July 1975 affidavit signed “Hillary D. Rodham” in compact cursive.}}}}
{{{{The victim, now 46, told Newsday that she was raped by Taylor, denied that she wanted any relationship with him and blamed him for contributing to three decades of severe depression and other personal problems.}}}}
The End.
~~~~~~
{{{{Mr. Semetis catered a Clinton event, a rally she did not attend, at the offices of District Council 37, the public employees’ union, on Dec. 15, charging the campaign $2,300, plus $192.63 in tax. Officials promised him that his business, Sale & Pepe Fine Foods, would be paid by check or credit card in a couple of weeks. After a few weeks passed, he started calling to see about the holdup.}}}}
{{{{Often he never reached anyone; other times he was told that his bill had been put through to the campaign’s headquarters in northern Virginia.}}}}
{{{{Last week, the owners heard about an item on the local news about a Des Moines cleaning company, Top Job Services Cleaning, which had been trying unsuccessfully to recoup $7,500 from the Clinton campaign.}}}}
I don’t even have time to add the K’s into all this, so much dirt on the POS Klintons is piling up.
I don’t want to get left behind.
{{{{The single biggest factor in Hillary Clinton’s collapse is less sexism in general than one man in particular — the man who began the campaign as her biggest political asset. The moment Bill Clinton started trash-talking about Mr. Obama and raising the specter of a co-presidency, even to the point of giving his own televised speech ahead of his wife’s on the night she lost South Carolina, her candidacy started spiraling downward.}}}}
So much for the greatest president ever BS you libs have been blabbing on and on about the last 17 years.
And to think that she’s been riding this clod’s coat tails for all these years.
What does that say of her?
{{{{Their star quality was also, as noted above, mostly a giant bluff. In his heyday, Bill could channel his narcissism into a famously sure “common touch” - he liked to bask in proof of his awesome empathetic powers. But, in the years since he left the Oval Office, he’s played too many gazillion-dollar-a-plate jet-set dinners in France and Switzerland, and the “common touch” has curdled. That was plain even by the 2002 midterms, when you could more or less correlate Democratic losses by his travel schedule. He’s a bust on the stump.}}}}
Look at this dimwit:
{{{{Even in the reddest counties in a deep red state, Texans are streaming to vote in the Democratic primary at double and sometimes triple the number voting in the Republican primary.}}}}
{{{{Early vote tallies compiled since Tuesday — the day early voting opened for the March 4 primary — show huge numbers of suburban voters turning up to vote Democrat. Texas suburbs have long been Republican strongholds, but the numbers indicate a huge shift.}}}}
Remember all that crap you libs talked about Texas and Bushie? You fired up the biggest anti KKKlinton vote in the history of politics.
{{{{Where the Democratic surge is truly impressive is in the suburbs that were once the exclusive property of Republicans. In Collin County, at the heart of the Metroplex — a heavily Republican area — county officials recorded the Democratic turnout at 5,021 early voters as of Thursday. That represented an increase of 4,294 early votes in the 2006 Democratic primary.}}}}
She’s going to get totally blown out.
{{{{Once the nomination is assured, the Republican candidate will always embrace conservative
It would appear that we have another case where the Bush Pentagon, particularly the Office of Public Affairs is forcefully inserting itself into the civilian election process. Earlier today I referenced Barack Obama’s anecdote from Thursday night’s Democratic debate about an Army Captain in Afghanistan who said his unit had had to get from captured Taliban ammunition they weren’t able to get quickly enough through standard Army supply channels. ABCNews’ Jake Tapper talked to the soldier in question, who confirmed the story he’d told Obama. Now NBC News also appears to have confirmed the story by talking to the Army Captain in question. But Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman is telling reporters he doesn’t think it’s true and that of course they can’t confirm it unless the soldier — still on active duty — comes forward to discuss the issue with the Pentagon brass, a step that would surely do wonders for his future in the Army. I don’t know how far this is going to go.
U.S. soldier in Afghanistan: ‘We scrounge for everything.’ In last week’s Democratic debate, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) said he was told by an Army captain that his platoon’s resources in Afghanistan were shortchanged because of the Iraq war. Seeking to turn Obama’s remarks into a political attack, Sen. John Warner (R-VA) immediately questioned the authenticity of the statement. But ABC News contacted the Army captain, who backed up Obama’s story. And now the New York Times reports that soldiers in Afghanistan are still strapped for resources: And they felt eclipsed by Iraq. As Sgt. Erick Gallardo put it: “We don’t get supplies, assets. We scrounge for everything and live a lot more rugged. But we know the war is here. We got unfinished business.” Jon Soltz and VetVoice have more.
ITN,
I was reading your posts from Friday, and the post of mine to which you were responding. Let’s bury the hatchet here, for a day or an hour. I said a long time ago that I’d meant to caution you, not to threaten or indimidate you.
On the contrary. You have at it! Exercise your Free Speech till your Free Speech muscles ache. I’m totally into that, and moreover it doesn’t matter a damn what I think about it.
It isn’t about {{{{ }}}} or lack thereof, because it’s not really about plagiarism and not really about you. It’s about the content of the speech, and when the content is demonstrably false and actionably harmful, and the AJC is notified of this and repuplishes it anyway, that’s a breach of everyone’s—-not just the immediate victim’s—-speech rights. And no jurisprudential calculus, no standing doctrine of Constitutional Law, can excuse it. The paper in fact could be brought to its knees, and possibly even bought out in a fire sale, for committing such a willful mistake while grownups, such as the Senior Partner of one of the largest multinational law firms, are watching.
This came up anew because of the AJC’s ridiculously self-righteous treatment of the NYT’s shoddy McCain innuendo of last week—-as though the AJC doesn’t INK out its existence by swallowing the NYT’s toilet flush.
That’s all. Nothing less than that concerning the AJC; nothing more than that concerning you. Please don’t be concerned about your inadvertent role in it. You’re good.
Now go on with the business of ripping us a new one!
Maybe I’m just jaded. It’s like Einstein. He was both right and wrong like the dual nature of the quantum particles he tried to dismiss. When Hubble proved that the universe was expanding, Einstein quickly came up with the “Cosmological Constant” which was both right and wrong. That Einstein so quickly invented dark matter (amazing man) means that there were two Einsteins, a + Einstein and a - Einstein. There are two of all of you too, but in your case, both of your dualities are better represented by this symbol: <=3
What does that mean? It means that the universe was created when man first observed it, and most of you are morons.
Here is a nice piece from USAToday regarding the Dems new spending proposals.
“How would the candidates pay for all these new programs without driving the deficit to new heights? Some have specific funding sources; some don’t. The candidates rather vaguely claim that costs would be covered primarily by repealing President Bush’s tax cuts and ending the Iraq war.
This is where the math gets fuzzy.”
Jack Abramoff: John McCain’s other Lobbyist problem… Eight years ago in 2000, McCain’s was on track to upset the status quo. He took on George W. Bush and the Republican machine. In the early primaries he showed that he had enough support and juice to win—if he wasn’t stopped.He was stopped. Jack Abramoff was key to that effort, as were his long-time pals and partners in crime Ralph Reed and Grover Norquist. They funded dirty tricks and went after McCain with a viciousness they usually reserved for Democrats. A recent article in Salon described part of their anti-McCain campaign:…It seemed nothing could ever slow them down, but then the Washington Post ran a story about Jack ripping off his Native American clients—by more than $30 million dollars. That got some attention in Washington. One person who noticed was John McCain. He was the second ranking Republican on the Senate’s Indian Affairs Committee and would soon become the Chairman when Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell retired. He quickly lined up an investigation. It was payback time. McCain went after Abramoff with a vengeance. Before Jack and his team could organize a defense McCain subpoenaed ALL of Jack’s records. ……..McCain made it clear that he had the goods on Ralph Reed and Grover Norquist as well. …. A funny thing happened to McCain’s payback investigation—reality intruded…..It quickly became apparent that the Abramoff scandal—if fully investigated—would defeat George W. Bush in 2004 and throw Republicans out of power in the House and Senate. By mid 2004, McCain was slow-walking his “investigation”.
Hey, stupid~! Political Foreskin isn’t Political Foreskin. Too many of you trolls have jacked it. Doesn’t matter. Just proves what I’ve been saying: that I rule this blog and the wooten blog.
I purposely wait till a tone has been set on the blog every morning. then I’ll post. immediately the tone shifts toward whatever I wrote. I control the blog, and I am the main intellectual force on the blogs. Everyone wants to write like me, or copy content, or do variations on my themes, or emulate the style. That is the defacto definition of a blog king.
I’m that royal pain in your azz, sir.
Proof? Okay, lets see, I’ll write this and watch all the dummies copy it in one form or another:
Hillary’s writers are working overtime to prepare for next weeks debate with all kinds of quick cuts and momentum building replies, clever lines to answer Obama’s comments about issues that are certain to come up. We could see a dramatic moment where, like before New hampshire when she got caught up in a rant and totally lost her composure. Talk about must see tv. Her 180 after the last debate where she was so “honored” has set up a very interesting final debate.
Okay, now watch the copycats. “i wrote that, i’m the smart one, no me, me I’m the king of the blog, no I am, I’m the good writer, duhjhhhhhh”
From email smears to misleading pictures making the rounds, Barack Obama’s critics have tried, with varying degrees of subtlety, to argue that the Illinois senator somehow lacks the requisite patriotism to be president. ——————-+But why, then, quote Roger Stone? ————————-+The AP’s Nedra Pickler asks disgraced Republican dirty-trickster Roger Stone for his opinion. Stone you’ll remember is the guy who got caught making threatening phone calls to New York Gov. Spitzer’s D-NY) elderly father and last month set up an anti-Hillary group with the acronym C-(#$%^%$#@)-N-T. Surprisingly enough, Stone thinks the answer is yes.
A PERSONAL NOTE
I think patriotism is running for POTUS against all odds, being even a small part of the movement (like me) and listening to what the man has to say.
Lapel pins and flags have been outsourced.
Patriotism is made right here in my heart.
It’s too sad that Hillary and Bill have been embarrassing themselves so badly lately — as Frank Rich put it in Sunday’s op-ed, they’re now using their “insulting 40 states” strategy to try and win more votes… will it work? I don’t think so!
Inside the world of war profiteers From prostitutes to Super bowl tickets, a federal probe reveals how contractors in Iraq cheated the U.S. ————————————+ A common thread runs through these cases and other KBR scandals in Iraq, from allegations the firm failed to protect employees sexually assaulted by co-workers to findings that it charged $45 per can of soda: The Pentagon has outsourced crucial troop support jobs while slashing the number of government contract watchdogs.—————————+ But a wiretapped transcript recently released in Rock Island underscores the brazen nature of the exceptions. In October 2005, with federal agents tailing them, three war contractors slipped through London’s posh Cumberland hotel before meeting in a quiet lounge. For the rest of that afternoon, the men sipped cognac and whiskey and discussed the bribes that had greased contracts to supply U.S. troops in Iraq. Former KBR procurement manager Stephen Seamans, who was wearing a wire strapped on by a Rock Island agent, wondered aloud whether to return $65,000 in kickbacks he got from his two companions, executives from the Saudi conglomerate Tamimi Global Co. One of the men, Tamimi operations director Shabbir Khan, urged him to hide the money by concocting phony business records. “Just do the paperwork,” Khan said.
Sick of Hillary? Do Something About It!
If you are sick to death of Hillary please let your frustration be known: I’m a PROUD Independent and support Obama! I’m truly disappointed in the Democratic Party. There seems to be a lot of in-fighting going on within the party and it is showing. I can’t understand why the leaders of the party are not standing up against the Clintons and their tactics. They are tearing the Democratic party apart……… They have to know that Hillary is greatly hurting the Democrats chances of getting in office come November. She’s down and she’s trying to pull Obama down with her. If she can’t get there…she doesn’t want him their either. She’d rather let McCain take it…and that is exactly what is going to happen if she keeps it up. She needs to get out of this race!
Hillary’s Five-Point Plan
(I copied this from Huffingtonpost)——- This is her plan? Why on earth is she paying her consultants millions of dollars to come up with this type of ‘plan’ ? A 5 year old could come up with something better…..lol. Hillary is NOT CEO material and she’s definitely not commander in chief material. Someone close to her needs to tell her that….does she have any confidents around her that will tell her the truth and nothing but the truth….????? I don’t think she does….not even Bill and Chelsea. That’s really sad. No one needs a bunch of ‘yes men’ around them. Everyone needs someone who will always look them in the eye and tell them the truth about themselves. Hillary needs this intervention ASAP. Her dignity and the Clinton legacy is at stake…I guess she doesn’t care.
Well, I’m very happy that our guy has the right people surrounding him. We are running a superior campaign. Hillary is supposed to have so much experience, so does her husband and most of the people working on her campaign…YET their campaign is one of the worst run in history. Obama is supposed to be a newbie at this and he and his team our running circles around ALL of the other candidates. WOW!
You can tell what type of president someone is going to be based on the way they run their campaign——someone made this comment to me and I have to say I am definitely in agreement. Obama 2008!!!!
A week from tomorrow could be the decisive day in this campaign.
We started behind in the two biggest states that will vote on March 4th, Ohio and Texas, but as we spend time on the ground, we are gaining strength.
But that’s nothing new for us. We have started as the underdog in just about every state. And thanks to a growing movement of support from ordinary people across the country, we came from behind and won the last 11 contests in a row.
We can do this again.
It’s not going to be easy — attacks from our Democratic opponent and the presumptive Republican nominee are growing more frequent and more desperate. And the size of these two states will require unprecedented energy and resources to organize supporters and persuade undecided voters.
But we’re within striking distance of our goal of one million people owning a piece of this campaign by March 4th, and every single person getting involved makes a difference.
If you make a donation through our matching program, you will double the impact of a first-time donor.
Encourage a fellow supporter to be one of the million. Make a matching donation right now:
https://donate.barackobama.com/promise
We’re within reach of this extraordinary goal for the same reason we’ve come from behind to unexpectedly win 26 out of 37 contests so far.
We’re succeeding because our campaign has always been about bringing new people into the process.
Thanks to you, we’re on the verge of history. Please do what you can to see this through.
This station was noteworthy for its hostility to Siegelman and support for his Republican adversary.——————— I contacted CBS News in New York and was told that “there is no delicate way to put this: the WHNT claim is not true. There were no transmission difficulties. The problems were peculiar to Channel 19, which had the signal and had functioning transmitters.” I was told that the decision to blacken screens across Northern Alabama “could only have been an editorial call.” Channel 19 is owned by Oak Hill Capital Partners, who can be contacted through Rhonda Barnat, 212-371-5999 or rb@abmac.com. Oak Hill Partners represents interests of the Bass family, which contribute heavily to the Republican Party. I thought the NYT was reeeeeeally stretching when they went back eight years on McCain. Now they go back over 20 to recycle some pieces on North. Have these guys forgot how to perform journalism?
I wouldn’t get too uptight over a North endorsement. McCain has trouble with the right of the Rep base. They love Ollie and no recycled op-ed pieces will change their minds. So if they look at North and say “well, if he can support McCain maybe I can too…..” that’s all McCain’s staff are really interested in.
BTW - North was indicted on 16 counts, convicted on 3 minor counts by a jury. There’s that pesky legal system again - a jury found him guilty of three minor counts. Gotta accept it. Plus, you gotta admire a guy (or his attorneys) who can cut a deal to testify before Congress, then use that deal to win on appeal. So the three minor counts were vacated. So he’s not guilty. Such is the law.
NPR panel discussion this morning made the point - long serving senators who decide to run do so at a distinct disadvantage. Just by being in the system for a while they are open to minor difficulties portrayed as major. This works to a candidate like Obama’s advantage.
I don’t believe the Constitution limits petitioning to private citizens.
If you will recall, I’m pretty hardcore on the entire issue of money in politics. I do not view it as a free speech issue. I view many of the laws, rules, and practices we have as an effort to mask influence-peddling and make it appear palatable to the public.
But I also find this entire “lobbyists are evil, evil, evil and I’m pure, pure, pure because I don’t even know a lobbyist!” a bit disingenuous. McCain surprises me, though. I’d have thought with how he’s been burned in the past he’d have a bright, clear dividing line between himself and interest-peddlers.
Paul:
Question not directed at me, but I pondered this the other day when you asked it. My answer is nothing.
I think there is nothing wrong with lobbyists who work to educate and inform policymakers, who provide research and perspective that might not otherwise be at hand. To me, there is also value for giving continuity to musical-chairs representatives. I also think lobbying can act as a check/balance between a lawmaker’s belief and a special interest group’s reality - or vice versa.
But for me, that’s where it should end. When the corruption of payoffs, kickbacks and sponsorships begin to direct public policy, then I think lobbying has crossed over from its intended good to purposeful harm-especially if it circumvents public discussion and disenfranchises US citizens.
I’d also throw in something about narrow self-interest v. the general welfare, but you get my drift, and wouldn’t we all like to sit on the committee that determines those definitions.
I also think that today’s Repub Lobby issue is tomorrow’s Dem Lobby issue - the pendulum’s gonna gonna through both parties eventually; they all drink heavily from the elixer.
Oliver North was undoubtedly one of numerous blemishes on Reagan’s already tarnished record.
The GOP has certainly gotten slicker since Nixon, but no less willing to bend and even break the law to get their way when it suits them.
Even to the detriment of the nation.
I don’t know about these “conservatives”, but when I was young I read and learned John Adams and his assertion that “…to the end it may be a government of laws and not of men.”
And this guy was a highly decorated Marine combat veteran once who sadly drank heavily of the vile Ronnie “men before law” KoolAid.
Shameful.
Paul,
When the Pharma Industry and the Health Insurance Industry lobby our elected representatives so that they can pressure the FDA into changing drugs such as Pepcid from prescription-only to over-the-counter in order to reduce drug coverage, then our representatives are not representing the American people.
Now people can buy as much of certain drugs as they want without seeing a doctor, and it doesn’t cost the insurance companies a penny. No office visit and no prescription expense. Everybody but the consumer wins!
Good points all. Diane Rehm show on NPR this morning - people made the point, repeatedly, that t**-for-tat payoffs and kickback just doesn’t occur - except by stupid Congressmen who deserve what the get! Consensus was the donations, etc buy an audience to be heard. So they go through this elaborate minuet.
Kinda funny about narrow interest vs general welfare. What’s the Democratic Party been referred to by some of their chief strategists? A party of special interest groups? Same, on a lesser scale, for Reps - they have their family values etc interest groups, too.
The pendulum will swing, as you said, And I’ll be just as bored by the “ohmyhgoslookatthis!” as I now am.
BTW - if you want to get really cynical, just check with some staffers about how much of the legislative proposals they put together are provided to them in rough draft by lobbyists. Notice I didn’t specify either party.
I heard Bennett this weekend - now one of McCain’s lawyers, who was the chief counsel for the committee investigating the Keating matter. Said he strongly recommend any and all interest in McCain be dropped.
Also heard from Lannie Davis (if you’ve read anything about Dem power brokers you’ll know the name) - former Special Counsel to Pres Clinton - say he was outraged by the NYT piece. Said he advised McCain - in the letters question - to be much more of an advocate, as that’s what the law permitted. McCain refused and pointedly asked just for a hearing.
Gotta say those two’s views gives one pause -
All right, all right, I know all about the veracity of Wikipedia. I wanted to check about the arrangement North had with Congress for his testimony and pulled this
“Oliver North and John Poindexter were indicted on multiple charges on March 16, 1988.[31] North, indicted on 16 counts, was found guilty by a jury of three minor counts. The convictions were vacated on appeal on the grounds that North’s Fifth Amendment rights may have been violated by the indirect use of his testimony to Congress which had been given under a grant of immunity. “
“then our representatives are not representing the American people.”
That pretty much nails it. Rather sad, all the attention on lobbyists deflects from turning the questions onto Congress - as an institution, not against a single member.
My point, as I’m sure you saw and others picked up on, was to illustrate one person’s grass is another’s kudzu. And how Constitutional rights, etc. can complicate this entire thing. I do think using such issues as a sledgehammer against one candidate misses the point.
That’s why Barack Obama and Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) passed a law to create a Google-like search engine to allow regular people to approximately track federal grants, contracts, earmarks, and loans online. The Chicago Sun-Times wrote, “It would enable the public to see where federal money goes and how it is spent. It’s a brilliant idea.”
(((Israel reportedly is offering to allow Golan Heights residents to hold Syrian identification cards and also is asking Syria to stand aside while Israel steps up pressure on Hezbollah in Lebanon. The offer and the request pose a dilemma for Damascus as it tries to balance its need to restore credibility in the Arab world with the need to avoid a military conflict with Israel.)))
(((The Syrians are at the crossroads of this regional rivalry. With Syria’s credibility at stake in the wake of the Mughniyah assassination, Damascus needs to project its regional influence throughout the upcoming Arab League summit and assuage doubts about its commitment to Hezbollah and Iran. At the same time, Syria does not stand a chance in a military confrontation with Israel and cannot afford to rock the boat too much as Israel escalates matters militarily with Hezbollah.)))
(((All of this creates an interesting opportunity for the West. In the eyes of Israel and the United States, Syria could be primed for another behind-the-scenes deal that would fulfill Syrian demands in Lebanon in exchange for Damascus pulling out of Iran’s regional alliance. While such a deal would require a great deal of convincing, given Syria’s distrust for the West and its increasing reliance on Iran and Hezbollah for its national security needs, al Assad has some new options to explore in the lead-up to the Arab League summit.)))
Lt. Gen. Carter Ham, operations chief for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that by July the troop total is likely to be 140,000. One of the more intriguing aspects of Nader’s campaign is how the Democrats spinelessly blamed him for their defeat in 2000.
But Ralph was correct. Had they run a good, palatable candidate they would have won both of the past two elections EASILY.
They could not, did not and so have allowed a third rate amateur to occupy the West Wing.
But worse they tried every trick in the book, some ethical, most not, to keep him on the outside looking in. And then when they lost to the always suspected, but now proven inept neo-cons, they blamed him.
Which, BTW was the final straw for me and the Democratic Party. And would they have tried these completely self-serving tactics had he been a “conservative” candidate “siphoning off” Republican voters. Methinks not.
I bring this up because ironically this year I was leaning heavily toward McCain, but in a sweet form of payback I will be “siphoned off” the even worse choice generally - the Republican Party candidate.
The Politics of Girl Scout Cookies
So I’m out at one of our local home improvement centers picking up supplies for my Spring remodeling project. In the front of the store I am approached by 3 very cute and polite young ladies, asking me if I would like to buy some Girl Scout Cookies. Being a sucker for kids, and OK I admit it COOKIES too, I decide to make a purchase. I browsed their selection very carefully, because buying cookies requires thoughtful introspection. You don’t want to pick a bad cookie. As I am browsing, it dawns on me. Shopping for Girl Scout Cookies is a lot like picking a Presidential candidate.
On one hand there is Shortbread (John McCain). Noble cookies with a glorious past, but you get the feeling that “You’ve had this cookie before.” I don’t know if I want to commit to another bag of the same old cookie. You get the feeling that this is the kind of cookie that your Grandpa would have liked but you aren’t sure that it is quite right for your family today. After all, Grandpa used to like to watch television on that old set in the basement because sometimes all those colors get confusing. It’s time to move beyond the black and white TV, time to move beyond Shortbread.
Then there is Lemon (Hillary Clinton). If you don’t like this years Lemon just wait, next year it will be different. Even if you do like this years Lemon, too bad, next year it will be different. The Girl Scouts constant retooling of their Lemon cookies reminds me of the way that Hillary keeps retooling her image and campaign message. Change…no wait….experience…..no wait change again… uhhhh…did we use women’s rights yet….ok…..instant readiness. Always an adventure. I’m not sure I am ready to give my cookie dollars or my vote to adventure.
Finally there is Thin Mints (Barack Obama). One thing that I can say about Thin Mints is that they are refreshing. Much like Barack Obama’s message of hope. But you can eat an entire sleeve of Thin Mints and not feel satisfied. Sure you are refreshed, but you get the feeling that maybe you just ate something that has the makings of a good cookie, just not quite ready yet. Maybe if they took two Thin Mints and made a sandwich cookie with more substance in the middle I would be sold.
So after 45 minutes of browsing and thoughtful introspection the adorable little Girl Scouts were beg
