Hey, why did the short pinko put the shirt he’s usually wearing on the lamp?
~~~~~
Notice how the libs have to leave this headline open for interpretation:
{{{{Michelle Obama clarifies her ‘proud of my country’ remark-Urinal}}}}
If you are an American and love your country, you have to read the story to find out this is the first time Michelle Obama has felt pride in her country, ever.
But if you are a pinko, you are probably thinking what do you mean she’s “proud of her country,” and then you see that she “clarified her remarks” and for a lib that means she still hates America for the most part, the tinge of pride was accidental, it won’t happen again.
~~~~~
The libs are trashing a war hero????
{{{{Mr. McCain promised, for example, never to fly directly from Washington to Phoenix, his hometown, to avoid the impression of self-interest because he sponsored a law that opened the route nearly a decade ago. But like other lawmakers, he often flew on the corporate jets of business executives seeking his support, including the media moguls Rupert Murdoch, Michael R. Bloomberg and Lowell W. Paxson, Ms. Iseman’s client. (Last year he voted to end the practice.)}}}}
Oh yeah, I’m so sure Ku Klux Rodham has never been on a corporate jet.
So what’s up, pinko media, I thought the only candidates qualified to lead our military were those who have served?
And that their policies were beyond reproach?
Has that all changed now that you libs have two, uh, Draft Dodgers running for your nomination?
Bwa.

What do you know, me and Jay Kookman are on the same page for the first time ever:
{{{{Thanks to substantial defeats in Wisconsin and Hawaii —- giving her a losing streak of 10 in a row —- Ku Klux Rodham has now fallen behind Barack Obama by more than 140 pledged delegates. With 981 delegates still to be elected between now and early June, it might at first glance seem possible to overcome that gap. But it’s just not so.-Urinal}}}}

{{{{The explanation for Hillary’s collapse as a frontrunner with a 25% to 35% (chose your poll) lead over Senator Barack Obama is that a small cloud far back in the memories of many Democrats has come forward in their minds with every one of her campaign’s blunders. After the early bullying of Obama, the arrival of shady Asian money, the planted questions at Obama rallies, implausible complaints over Obama’s kindergarten essays, the racist rhetoric in South Carolina, and now evidence of voting fraud in the New York primary those little clouds have become thunder clouds. Hundreds of thousands of Democrats do not want to go back to the 1990s.}}}}
~~~~~
{{{{The Iraqi Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has threatened to end a six-month ceasefire by his private militia due to US-Iraqi raids in the south of the country.}}}}
Please do, Mookie.
It sure would be nice to have the opportunity to wipe your army from the face of the Earth before we leave Iraq.
Plus, your fighters would get to meet allah and we would be rid of you, everybody would be happy!
~~~~~
Ronald Reagan’s legacy:
{{{{A missile launched from a Navy cruiser soared 130 miles above the Pacific and smashed a dying and potentially deadly U.S. spy satellite Wednesday, the Pentagon said. Several defense officials said it apparently achieved the main aim of destroying an onboard tank of toxic fuel.}}}}

A note to my fellow bloggers.
As you have noticed there has been a rash of namejacking incidents lately. That rash Caused Duh/RW so much itching , he contacted the AJC to complain. Funny thing, turns out it wasn’t me. Of course, in typical Republispeak mode RW/DUH said last night:

You and your friends can namejack all day long for all I care, but all you do is ruin any chance for a free exchange of ideas. I suspect that’s what your ilk wants anyway since you have no ideas. Glad to see you think you’re exonerated of something, but like I told you the other day I didn’t it was you anyway. You’re just really fun to push over the edge. Andy usually starts namejacking when he knows he losing the fight. This isn’t the first time he’s done it, and probably won’t be the last. He’ll get banned for it for a few weeks then it all starts back up again.
The thing is, he thinks he’s some sort of Republican Internet warrior. That somehow, he is going to sway the outcome of the election with the use of his foul mouth and playground bullying tactics. I guess a little bit of blind faith in the republican machine keeps him going too.
However, logic and reason are his kryptonite. Once, overwhelmed with such damning evidence against his republican fascist fantasy it causes his head to explode and for him to go off the deep end. You know, Highjacking names, beating his mother, etc.

FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:
Barack Obama has apparently already struck fear into the hearts of the Republican power structure. He doesn’t quite have the nomination yet, although it’s a pretty good bet he’s going to get it.
But John McCain couldn’t wait for that formality. Apparently if you’re John McCain, it’s never too early to start calling people names. Last night while celebrating his victory in Wisconsin, McCain could have chosen to use the free air time he was given on all three cable news networks for advancing some of his ideas of how he thinks he can make the country better.
But instead, he chose to call Barack Obama names, referring to the Democrat’s call for change as “eloquent but empty.” This is school yard stuff and you’d think a 71-year-old member of the United States Senate would know better. The reason Obama has captured the imagination of the people in this country is because he has a long list of ideas on how to improve things. And in case you haven’t noticed, we could use a little improvement around here.
Barack Obama was expected to draw a crowd of 20,000 people to a campaign event in Dallas, Texas, today. I wonder how many people showed up at McCain’s last appearance.
Partisanship, name calling and gridlock are turning people’s stomachs. Barack Obama has arrived on the scene like a breath of fresh air and if John McCain doesn’t understand the significance of that, he has no more chance of becoming president than I do.

{{{{The truth is that Mr. Obama is unwilling to challenge special interests if they represent the financial and political muscle of the Democratic left. He says yes to the lobbyists of the AFL-CIO when they demand card-check legislation to take away the right of workers to have a secret ballot in unionization efforts, or when they oppose trade deals. He won’t break with trial lawyers, even when they demand the ability to sue telecom companies that make it possible for intelligence agencies to intercept communications between terrorists abroad. And he is now going out of his way to proclaim fidelity to the educational unions. This is a disappointment since he’d earlier indicated an openness to education reform. Wanna know why oil prices have risen? From Stratfor:
(((Oil prices fell to $97.70 a barrel Feb. 20 after climbing above $100 a barrel Feb. 19. The price spike was caused by threats from Nigerian militants against oil infrastructure, concerns that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries could cut output in early March and uncertainty about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s course of action after a legal spat with U.S. energy supermajor ExxonMobil. However, larger geopolitical factors that caused oil prices to escalate in 2007 are fading.)))
(((Uncertainty surrounding possible reprisals against the United States by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez after a spat with U.S. energy supermajor ExxonMobil Corp. also contributed to the price hike, and that uncertainty is expected to continue for months.)))
(((Chavez can do little to take revenge on the supermajor, but ——>he views Exxon and Washington as one and the same,<—— and the idea that Chavez could make Washington a proxy at which he can hurl his anger against Exxon is not far-fetched.)))
I wonder where Hugo got ^^^ that idea? They don’t call him a buffoon without good reason. He’s a leftist afterall.

Karl Rove: The Machiavelli Who Failed………Karl Rove’s never-particularly brilliant career as a manipulator of the political processes of the nation will end as it began: mired in scandal and failure………The real test for Rove came in 2006, when he needed to maintain control of at least one house of Congress in order to preserve the smooth operations of a Bush White House that had survived in large part because of nonexistent congressional scrutiny……….But Rove could not pull it off. He failed in the essential task of a 21st-century Machiavelli: that of securing the future. ………..Rove growled, “I add up to a Republican Senate and Republican House. You may end up with a different math but you are entitled to your math and I’m entitled to the math.” Rove’s math was wrong. Yet, he refused to admit it.

Many times when a black journalist, sports figure, neighbor, political candidate, politician, etc. finds themselves in a compromising position regarding a stand on an issue, the race card comes out. Black America is expecting the electorate to handle both Obamas with kid gloves so as not to “offend” them and to treat them differently than a candidate from another ethnic group. Politics is not a gentle endeavor and if the race card comes out during a term in the white house, the racial divide will grow wider than ever in this country. We would hope that Obama is up to the task of running the country for EVERY American. His wife will hurt his candidacy by relating to America that running for president of this country is part of a racial struggle. It rises above all of that. Obama will get more black votes by this rhetoric but the rest of America will not identify with this. Being president of this country means that you drop your ethnic identity at the front door of the White House. We won’t have an African-American president, just an American president.

Despite those actions, and despite Ms. Bhutto’s assassination in December, the Bush administration still has not given up on the idea that a democratically elected Parliament would share power with Mr. Musharraf. Those are two great links to start the day. Mostly because they illustrate the convoluted attempts to explain an inconsistency by the Democratic heir-apparent (when the Reps do that I believe it’s called “spin”).
The link on “Why doesn’t McCain want to go after al Qaeda Terrorists” is misleading. It asserts Obama doesn’t want to “invade” Pakistan, only “stike” high-value targets.
That’s too funny, given the rhetoric with which Dems have accused Pres Bush of “invasion” or “war” in the past. So an air strike to kill people within a sovereign country is not an invasion? Turning loose ground soldiers in a country is not an invasion? We’re going to have to watch out for Obama, I think.
BTW - the Washington Post reported Aug 7 2007 that Obama would “order U.S. troops into that country unilaterally if it failed to act on its own against Islamic extremists.”
He also said “”The first step must be to get off the wrong battlefield in Iraq and take the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
Ummm, we are in Afghanistan. So now Obama wants to create battlefields in Pakistan. Send in American ground forces just when the Pakistani people rejected Islamists in the northwest provinces. Oh, joy.
The second link - Bush endorsed Obama’s position in ‘06 - as Pres Bush was first off with the concept, shouldn’t it read “Obama endorses Bush Position on Pakistan?”
Soooo, who’s the guy who will continue the Bush policies?

Good morning!

Funny how some of the wingnuts are starting in on Goldie’s response of qualifications for President as lame. I’ve posted that several times, and met with the same response. Actually, I believe that I must credit RW for pointing that out to me once (if it wasn’t you RW, sorry).

Another day in wingnut lala land. The demented rants of the insignificant. Check out these humorous posts from the lunatic fringe:
Duh - Still obsessed with Hillary. Doesn’t believe the al-Sadr army ceasefire was the reason for the decline in violence in Iraq, instead credits the “surge”. Still got his lips attached to Reagan’s @ss.
@@ - Blames liberals for gas prices (nevermind the Iraq war). Can’t admit Bush is a screw up. Says liberals support terrorists.
Paul - Saying Obama will continue Bush’s Iraq policy.
RW - Always demanding a list of Obama accomplishments. Can’t provide a list of Bush accomplishments.

BAGHDAD - Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr will have a statement read in mosques at Friday prayer services addressing whether his Mahdi Army will extend a six-month cease-fire that’s helped reduce violence throughout Iraq, a Shiite lawmaker said.
So the Republicans were LYING to us once again when they claimed VICTORY because of the troop surge. Hell, the GOPhers done gone and got us another MISION ACCOMPLISHED.
Now we see the real reason for the recent decline in violence and it wasn’t because of the surge, afterall. Republican dimwits still think THEY are in charge in Iraq when it was really al-Sadr all along.
There is some truth in their LIES, however. Republicans have been the greatest recruitment tool for Islamic terrorists since the crusades. Since Republicans have been al-Sadrs greatest ally and BFF (best friend forever), they may as well claim the credit, too.

I think this “Obama has no substance” is pure bullsh!t. Have any of the candidates given specific, concrete examples of what they are planning to do different?
McCain? Clinton?
In the speeches I’ve heard from all the candidates, they pretty much all sound like fluff to me. No specifics from anyone. But, then again, I haven’t heard ALL the speeches, so I’m open for discussion here.
It seems like everyone is so desperate to stop the Obama train - they have so little to go on.

Liberal Manifesto
Liberals believe in clean air, diplomacy, stem cells, living wages, body armor for our troops, government accountability, and that exercising the right to dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
Liberals believe in reading actual books, going to war as a last resort, separating church and hate, and doing what Jesus would actually do, instead of lobbying for upper-class tax cuts and fantasizing about the apocalypse.
Liberals believe in civil rights, the right to privacy, and that evolution and global warming aren’t just theories but incontrovertible scientific facts.
Liberals believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment that (1) prohibits another Bush from ever occupying the White House, and (2) prevents George W. Bush from ever becoming baseball commissioner before he does to our national pastime what he did for America.
Liberals believe in rescuing people from flooded streets and rooftops, even if they’re too poor to vote Republican.
Liberals believe that supporting our troops means treating our wounded vets like the heroes they are, and not leaving them to languish in rat-infested military hospitals under the outsourced management of incompetent cronies who think they’re running a Taco Bell franchise.
Liberals believe in pheromones, sex ed, solar panels, voting paper trails, the common good, and that, no matter how fascinating a story it may be, a president should never sit around in a state of total paralysis reading “My Pet Goat” while America is under attack.
And above all, liberals believe that it’s time to come together as a country and put a collective boot in the a* of shameless conservative fearmongers, hate merchants, and scapegoaters who are sucking the freedom out of all our souls.
Dan Kurtzman, who keeps the political snark fires burning over at About.com, wrote a terrific piece for his recent book, How to Win a Fight with a Conservative.

Though it is still very early this is hands down the line of the day: “November will be brutal for the GOP.”
A huge number in that once grand old party will simply cut and run rather than face the embarrassment of a crushing defeat in an election. Many others will try coyly to avoid any references or connections to you-know-who and you-know-what. (What a strategy!)
And a tiny, tiny handful may actually have the nads to say forcefully and genuinely that the Reagan/Gingrich/Bush agenda has been a miserable failure for America and it should be dropped quicker than a bad habit.
They alone will probably stand a decent chance to lead for the next few years anywhere outside of the Great Southern Moron Belt and assorted other cultural and intellectual wastelands and outposts like Utah and Oklahoma.

There he was, working for nuclear non-proliferation and securing loose stockpiles of conventional weapons, like shoulder-fired missiles.
There he was again, passing what the Washington Post called “the strongest ethics legislation to emerge from Congress yet” — though not as strong as Obama would have liked
Look — he’s over there, passing a bill that created a searchable database of recipients of federal contracts and grants,
proposing legislation on avian flu back when most people hadn’t even heard of it,
working to make sure that soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan were screened for traumatic brain injury and to prevent homelessness among veterans,
successfully fighting a proposal by the VA to reexamine all PTSD cases in which full benefits had been awarded
working to ban no-bid contracts in Katrina reconstruction,
introducing legislation to criminalize deceptive political tactics and voter intimidation.

Hello again. I wonder if Romney were still a contender, the variation would be “what’s his foreign policy experience?”
Getting elected to a state legislature, amassing a record good enough to run on and win a US Senate position, seems pretty fair.
We’ve seen enough of what you’ve said or done in the past is no guarantee of future performance - so I’m more of the “tell me what you want to do” camp.

Paul,
I think most people with some kind of political savy (?sp) or brain want to see concrete examples of what politicians plan to DO, the actual nuts and bolts of the plan, and Obama has put forth some of that plan, just as much as the other candidates have. To simply dismiss it is simply absurd.
If Romeny were in the running still? Well they have more to b!tch and complain about with Romney, so, no, I don’t think his lack of foreign policy experience would be brought up.
The sexy new thing to say now against Obama is “What’s his plan, where’s his substance?”
Well hell, where are Clinton, McCain and Huckabee’s?
In my opinion, the primaries are a dog and pony show. They are the beauty contests. The real nuts and bolts come in the general - that’s when the nitty gritty is decided.
Also,

As a presidential candidate, John McCain stands out not only for his vocal endorsement of the unpopular war in Iraq, but also because one of his own sons is a Marine Corps officer on active duty there. He supports the war, even at the price of his own career or the life of a child he loves. Yet although the senator from Arizona is obviously no chicken hawk, he carefully avoids “straight talk” about the real costs of this war in dollars and debt. Like every other politician who agrees with the Bush policy of prolonged war and occupation, he still pretends that we can spend hundreds of billions on this endless misadventure without collecting enough tax revenue to pay the actual costs.

Agree with you on the warning. Heck the warnings go as far back as JFK. Among some of Carter’s policies, I could have been on board with his promotion of nuclear energy had I been of age to vote but alas, it was Paul Volcker, one of the many Trilateral Commission agents in the Carter team, who dashed the attempts to go nuclear.
Volcker has endorsed who for president? Oh yea….Barack Obama.
It’s those damn capitalist oil companies. They’ve got big bucks and Obama and Volcker want their profits. To hell with nuclear energy—ain’t no money to be made in that.

Paul,
I don’t believe that Obama’s statements about going after OBL in Pakistan can be compared to Bush pre-emptively invading Iraq. Obama supported US action against the Taliban to get OBL. He did not support going into Iraq.
So let’s not get bogged down in suggesting that there is not all that much difference in what Obama would do and what our current occupant in the White House is/has/would doing/done/do.
I would also suggest that the “evidence” needs to be re-examined. The “evidence” that this administration wanted to depose Saddam Hussein from day 1 is, I believe, far more compelling than the “evidence” used to invade Iraq.
Too many people equate Iraq with the “War on Terror”. They declare that leaving Iraq is a retreat in the “War on Terror”. So let me be the first to re-name the War in Iraq. It shall now and henceforth be known as “The Mother of All Bush Screw-ups”.

By Paul

N-GA 1:55
Hello. Let’s see if this goes through. I gave up a couple hours ago - have had one waiting for ITN with CNN and NYT links on this topic.
As I said to mm, I was not drawing a comparison between Bush/Iraq and Obama/Pakistan. Not at all. Two separate theaters of operations. I was pointing out the similarities between Obama’s Pakistan comments and proposed actions and Bush’s Pakistan comments and actions. Hence my “did Bush endorse Obama’s Pakistan comments” or “did Obama endorse Bush’s Pakistan comments” to ITN. BTW - I don’t think you can endorse something that hasn’t happened, so it must be Obama endorsed Bush.
And if that’s a bit much, then I’ll posit their positions on the topic of Pakistan aren’t all that dissimilar. Which I find eminently interesting. Especially given that to point such out can cause a bit of consternation.
That’s a fair comment on the War on Terror. Never did like that term, as I’ve written. Naming a war after a tactic is akin to renaming WWII the “War on Blitzkreig” or “War on Island Hopping.” ‘Course, it took us, what, two years for this administration to discuss Islamic fundamentalists/jihadists as the source?
On a related topic, one I’d love to see addressed in the general election. Kosovo and Iran. Looking for consistency from Obama.
US went into Kosovo without UN approval. Some argue against UN opposition for invasion. Sound familiar? We’ve been there nearly ten years. Main argument some make is to withdraw would be to invite a bloodbath. So we stay. Sound familiar?
So, for Sen Obama, the question is: will he treat Kosovo the same as he wants to treat Iraq? Please don’t say as long as we aren’t taking casualties we should leave troops there forever - or even for 100 years. Or that the scale of operations is different. I’m looking at the practical, bottom-line logic of taking one action where we initiated military action on our own and now have troops there in perpetuity, and in a remarkably similar situation, doing the same as what in the other theater engenders criticism.
I’ll go along with “politics” as the most palatable answer.

1- Libs believe in stopping development and growth, murdering unborn children, not responding to attacks until they are sure that everything is perfect and supporting our enemies over our own government is the highest form of patriotism.
2- Libs believe in watching a fictitious movie and touting it as a factual documentary, denouncing Jesus as a myth and crutch for the weak, not understanding simple math and supporting income redistribution.
3- Libs believe in civil rights as long as it’s someone else’s problem and does not affect them and that junk science is to be taken as facts and not to be doubted or challenged.
4- Libs believe that if they do not like you or what you stand for then they have every right to discriminate against said person and prevent said person from holding a job.
5- Libs believe that the government is responsible for everything and that personal accountability is not necessary.
6- Libs believe that they know what is best for our troops and not the medical folks who are trained to deal with the issues.
7- Libs believe that there way is the only way, that what is good for ‘the people’ is what is good for everyone. That a president should show panic in front of young children and overreact before he collects the needed information.
8- And above all, Libs believe in the collective power and not in the individual.

Was it you or RE - I think RE - who offered a hard-nosed realistic answer to a similar line of questioning about invading Sudan?
“Because we can.”
Many object to that as the arrogant assertion of power. So be it. But at times it fits.
Pursuit of national interests - or application of will even when there doesn’t seem to be a national interest - can be inconsistent, arrogant and heavy-handed. But that’s just the way it is. That’s why we see some like Biden continuing to beat the drum for Sudan intervention. Because we can, and as he thinks, because we should (and the “not worth one American life” argument should be forever relegated to the soundbite trash can).
BTW - last year SecDef Gates told NATO that if they didn’t meet their Afghanistan commitments he’d pull troops out of Kosovo. We have around 1600 there, I think. Afghanistan’s largely a NATO operation - they do the things US forces in Iraq have been doing under the surge (I just love these parallels). CENTOM directs the US forces primarily engaged in hunting down insurgents.
I still think we should consider paying the farmers for their poppies, there. Cut the drug-dealing warlords off at the knees. Destroy the heroin supply. The villagers’d love us.

Help the Movement Grow!
We are within striking distance of something historic: one million people donating to this campaign.
Think about that … nearly one million people taking ownership of this movement, five dollars or twenty-five dollars at a time.
We’re already more than 900,000 strong, including over half-a-million donating so far this year. Unlike Senator Clinton or Senator McCain, we haven’t taken a dime from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs. Our campaign is responsible to no one but the people.
If you give as little as five dollars today, a previous donor will match your donation and double your impact. You can even choose to exchange a note with them about why you are stepping up to own a piece of this campaign.
Be one of the million:
http://my.barackobama.com/myspace_FEBdonate
If we can reach our goal of one million donors by March 4th, we can send a powerful message that the Washington establishment and big-money interests cannot ignore.
As one million people with one voice, we can tell them that their days of dominating Washington are coming to an end — the old politics are crumbling and a new voice is breaking through. Our voice.
Will you make a matching donation now to make it happen?
http://my.barackobama.com/myspace_FEBdonate
If we can do this, we’re not just going to win an election. We’re going to change our country.
Thank you so much,

Obama Wins Democrats Abroad by Landslide Margin
Posted: 09:12 AM ET
(CNN) — Barack Obama has won the Democrats Abroad Global Primary, according to the International Chair for the Democrats Abroad, Christine Marques.
Marques tells CNN the results of the week-long vote were:
Barack Obama – 65 percent, Hillary Clinton – 32 percent, with the rest of the candidates pulling in less than 1 percent of the vote each.
Democrats Abroad will send 22 delegates to the Democratic Convention, with half a vote each, carrying a total of 11 votes.
According to Democrats Abroad UK Chairman Bill Barnard, eight of the 22 will be superdelegates: two of those have said they will support Clinton, two have said they will support Obama, and four are undecided. Fourteen of the 22 will be pledged delegates.
Voting in the Democrats Abroad Global Primary began on Super Tuesday, February 5 and continued through February 12. Voting centers were set up in 33 countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and new chapters in Istanbul, Ukraine, Russia and Indonesia — the highest number of voting centers in the primary’s history.
This was the first cycle that Democrats Abroad enabled those who live in countries without voting centers to vote by mail, fax or Internet.
Democrats Abroad will not release its membership numbers, but the largest communities of U.S. expatriates live in Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

It wasn’t I who said “…because we can”, but I’m unwilling to go on to say it was RE.
Now then, “Pursuit of National Interests”….hmmmmmmmm. Could some President interpret that to mean that oil is a strategic need, and the US needs to get it before the PRC does, so let’s invade. I’m not suggesting for a moment that ever happened. lol
But the problem is in the interpretation. Going into the Sudan may be defended as a moral responsibility, but is it in the Pursuit of our national interests?
The Korean Conflict ended in a stalemate. There was “peace” for 50 years, then….? And the US paid a great deal of money to keep forces there. Was the stalemate worth it? Should we have continued the war to a decisive end? What about the occupying costs in Germany and Japan? That was a war with a decisive end, yet those countries have not had to sustain large military budgets in the intervening years…they plowed that money back into their economies. So Kosovo is another stalemate…and we will continue to pay for the occupation there, as well.
The irony of all this can be expressed thusly:
For decades the US has maintained military bases all over the world. In the Phillipines, Spain, Italy, Turkey, etc. we support tens of thousands of military personnel and their families. In order to provide this “protection”, we pay these governments billions of dollars every year to “lease” these facilities. And we are required to employ many thousands of local people on these bases. And we must leave these bases virtually intact when we leave…We pay THEM!!!!!!!
Duh!!!!

Youngest Superdelegate Endorses Obama
February 21, 2008 Superdelegate schmoozed by Chelsea backs Obama Posted: 10:15 AM ET
(CNN) – A few weeks ago, 21-year-old Wisconsin superdelegate Jason Rae was taken out to breakfast by Chelsea Clinton in the runup to that state’s Democratic primary.
Two days after the vote, the college junior – who will be the youngest superdelegate at this year’s Democratic National Convention — is undecided no longer: he’s backing Barack Obama.
“The Democratic Party is fortunate to have two very talented individuals running for President this election,” said Rae in a statement released by the Obama campaign Thursday. “It is a difficult choice for anyone, but in the end, the choice for me has become clear. I am proudly supporting Senator Barack Obama.”
He cited Obama’s support from an overwhelming majority of young voters as the major reason for his decision.
The Democratic Party’s roughly 800 superdelegates – who can cast their votes for any candidate they choose, regardless of their state’s primary or caucus results – have been at the center of a fierce lobbying effort by the campaigns of both Barack Obama and Chelsea Clinton’s mother, Hillary Clinton.
Rae, a Marquette University history and political science major, talked political strategy and electability over a half-hour breakfast with the former First Daughter a little more than a week before his state’s February 19 primary.
He said then he had also been called by former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who tried to convince him to vote for Clinton, and by Sen. John Kerry, who urged him to back Obama. He also spoke with Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama.

Cleveland Mayor Endorses Obama
Sen. Barack Obama received the endorsement of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson on Thursday, at an event with Obama’s wife Michelle at Cleveland State.
Obama now has the backing of the mayors of Ohio’s top two cities: Columbus — whose mayor Michale Coleman announced his support in October — and Cleveland.
Both Jackson and Coleman’s support should play a helpful role for Obama in the state’s upcoming March 4 primary. Sen. Hillary Clinton deemed Ohio (and Texas) as her campaign’s firewall. And while the New York Democrat holds a relatively substantial lead in recent polls, Obama has recently gained steam, aided in part by his 11 straight primary wins.
Jackson, the first African-American Italian mayor of the city, won election in November 2005 with 55 percent of the vote. His brief tenure has, for the most part, been a positive one, as he has pushed for changes in the city’s police force and a joint-tax sharing venture between Cleveland and its suburbs. Recently, he snubbed his local congressman and former presidential candidate Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio), by endorsing Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman to take his seat.

New York City (AP) — The Clinton campaign announced today that it has petitioned the Democratic National Committee to allocate Party delegates based on a Time/CNN poll taken five weeks ago. The poll, taken of some 5,400 registered Democrats, showed that Democrats prefer Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) over Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) for the Democratic presidential nomination by a margin of 11 points.
Terry McCauliffe, spokesman for the Clinton campaign, said that “it’s only fair” that the wishes of “thousands of loyal Democrats” be counted in the run-up to the Democratic National Convention in August. “To do otherwise would be reminiscent of a dark past of political disenfranchisement in this country,” said McCauliffe.
Contacted for a response, Sen. Obama was unavailable for comment Thursday.
The poll showed 47 percent of those questioned favoring Hillary Clinton, compared with only 36 percent for Barack Obama, with the remainder of respondents supporting Bill Clinton for President. The margin of error was 5 percent.

Obama has responded to Kosovo’s independence.
(((In his comments on Kosovo’s declaration of independence, Barack Obama said: “Kosovo’s independence is a unique situation resulting from the irreparable rupture Slobodan Milosevic’s actions caused; it is in no way a precedent for anyone else in the region or around the world.”)))
Well, actually it has set a precedent. I’m reading where several countries are looking at Kosovo and saying if they can do it why can’t we? Even Palestine.
(((“Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people,” Obama told voters in Iowa on Sunday.)))
(((In the past, Obama has spoken highly of the Palestinian people and the calamities they’ve faced.)))

It’s much harder for people here (Palestine) who are seeing everyday the roots of their own people and the conflicts that go back generation after generation.)))
If we’re so darn lucky then why does he keep recalling “memories” of the Bush administration, the political “grudges” and “bitterness” between the parties in all of his campaign speeches?
What I want to know is how will “the policies” he promotes bring us together when our perspectives of what will improve our country and serve our vital interests are so very different?
They won’t. His policies will be “forced” upon him by other countries whose self-interest is paramount.
Come out of your bubble Obama. There’s difficult work ahead and not everybody will be happy with your policies given the circumstances of today’s global world. Your policies may even prove to be detrimental to your legacy (if you are unfortunate enough to have one) and the United States.

So, exactly how does McCan’ts “ethics reform” persona square around having an “inappropriate” relationship with a Washington LOBBYIST?
“For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk”
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

I love cheese grits, but have never paired a wine with it (them?). Considering the shrimp with the cheese grits and assuming they are similar to polenta, you can go with Pinot Grigio or a Spanish Albarino.

Hey Bosch and Paul,
I just learned that Alton Brown lives here, and is a member of my church. Wonder where he (obviously) studied Food Science.
Brown in a TV kitchen reminds me of myself at Age 7, with my first chemistry set. Bet he never turned on the light in the darkroom at Age 11, though, or nearly blew up a physics lab when he was 18.
Besides, I’m pretty sure his crab cakes are better.
Bosch is so right, though, Paul. Not white wine. Brandy. Try a Tea & Sypathy: One shot of Brandy, followed by a serving of tea; then slurry of honey cut with Brandy, to taste; add lemon juice and garnish with the Brandy.

I trust you read Stratfor’s latest - argues many, many countries don’t want to see this as precedent because of their own internal problems.
“One of the principles of a stable Europe has been the inviolability of borders from outside interference, as well as the principle that borders cannot be redefined except with mutual agreement. This principle repeatedly was reinforced by international consensus, most notably at Yalta in 1945 and Helsinki in 1973.
Thus, the Czech Republic and Slovakia could agree to separate, and the Soviet Union could dissolve itself into its component republics, but the Germans cannot demand the return of Silesia from Poland; outsiders cannot demand a British withdrawal from Northern Ireland; and the Russians cannot be forced to give up Chechnya. The principle that outside powers can’t redefine boundaries, and that secessionist movements can’t create new nations unilaterally, has been a pillar of European stability.”

Asparagus Polenta Gratin
Ingredients 2 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon seasoned salt large zip-top bag 1 pound fresh asparagus spears (rinsed) 1 (17-ounce) tube prepared polenta (plain or flavored) 2 tablespoons herb garlic butter 1 cup half-and-half aluminum foil 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Steps
Preheat oven to 450°F. Place flour and seasoned salt in zip-top bag; shake to mix. Cut 1 inch from tough root end of each asparagus spear and discard. To do this quickly, group half the spears together, align ends, and slice with sharp knife. Cut into 2-inch pieces; add to bag. Cut tube of polenta in half (this allows wrapper to be easily removed); discard packaging. Cut into bite-size pieces and add to bag; seal tightly and gently shake to coat.By raisedanidiot

Sounds like the beginning of a great hash. With poached eggs, maybe? Not classic dinner but is good on occasion. Or use the steak for a Thai beef salad (yum nuea) and save the potatoes for hash browns. Maybe an open-face roast beef sandwich? If you have some good stock substitutes for the gravy, that is. Or reheat it gently so as not to dry out and use in a stroganoff. Kinda tricky but you can pull it off.

Add asparagus mixture; then pour half-and-half evenly over mixture. Cover dish tightly with foil; bake 30 minutes. Remove foil. Sprinkle cheese over top; bake 5–7 more minutes (uncovered) or until cheese melts and begins to brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.I never thought such a simple dish could taste so good. When I was a bachelor I used to go up to Exec chefs at the end of a cooking day and offer to prep for them for four hours—-with my own blades—-if they’d teach me any one thing of their choosing. Man, that was good, exhausting fun.
Here’s a trick I learned from an American CIA grad named Giovanni, who’s now Exec in a fancy place in Milan. Trick a la “Geo”: instead of adding shredded or minced ginger directly to a dish, coarse-grate fresh ginger, then gather the gratings in your fist and squeeze the pure juices for use, discarding the fibrous pulp. No need for peeling or knife work.
There. A genuine CIA SECRET! And you didn’t even have to make mirepoix for four hours.

Ethnic gadgets, regional gadgets, new and antique gadgets. Then the hyperactively tax-obsessed Board of Supervisors figured out how to tax operations like that, and stifled the practice.
But the shops still there, as odd as ever and lacking only a geriatric Tabby for the shelf in the Bay window on Divisadero Street.

Andy, does your mother mind you wearing her panties and other unmentionables while you’re haunting the keyboard in the basement?

In related news, the Feds are investigating whether former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott knowingly played a role in the alleged conspiracy involving a Mississippi judge, Bobby Delaughter.
Seems there are still Ghosts in Mississippi.
So why exactly did Trent Lott (R-MS) resign his seat? Wasn’t early?

Bosch,
Yes, I doubt she will attack but will point out she is a fighter with experience and will not need on the job training.
She attacks, the corporate media attack her. They are starting to turn on Obama and he did not respond to take up for his wife on BO’s lynching comment.
They will run him over. McLover has the cons united, the corporate media and a weak Obama so he will win.

Glenn,
Sounds like a fun shop. I’ve never been to California, one of the few states I’ve never been to, and one I think everyone should see.
I have some friends who saw Alton in Harry’s in Marietta/Smyrna, the one near the Big Chicken. They said they stalked him the whole time they were there trying to get up enough nerve to talk to him.
He seems the type of guy who would talk to anyone about food.
If you do meet him, let us know. There are alot of good food junkies on this board - most of us know our way around in the kitchen too!
Food can be the universal language, even for those totally on the opposite ends of the political spectrum. Start talking about food and all unpleasantries end!
Good evening!

By the way, I don’t think she’ll be coming home tonite.
She says fix your own oatmeal, wanker.
Go ahead, IN THE NEWS, call me a f-ag.

Okay, not good evening yet!
Glenn,
Forgot - what is Bromidical? Is that a town? I’ve never heard of it.
getalife,
Like I said earlier, maybe Obama knows that the lynching comment (I haven’t heard about it except from you) speaks for itself - especially the kook who said it.
I think most candidates have seen what happens when you try and take up for your spouse. While, yes, Obama should jack up O’Reilly, it’s pretty pointless and leaves himself open for exploitation.
We’ll see - just for fun, one of the reasons I’m supporting Obama - is just to see he and McCain in a debate. What a comedy show that will be!
Good evening again!

Yes, that’s right - I’m Bush’s boy. His bum boy.
Go ahead - call me a f-ag.
I’m proud of it.
Hell, it’s the only thing I’ve ever been good at.

You’ll have to excuse my boy Polly, he’s fascinated with other men’s c@cks, it’s all he can talk about.
Morning, noon and nite, he guards the Luckovich blog, never interjecting anything of interest, just forcing his pen-is envy on everyone else.
Just like he does at home.
That’s why I’m over at Luckoduh’s tonite, so I can be with a real man.
Not with some name jacking prickless little troll.

She had Shuster suspended and fights for family because she is a fighter.
I think the expectations of Obama are way too high and people forget, he is a politician.
My # 1 rule in politics is never ever trust a politician and that includes Clinton.
She is a fighter to fight the RW and corporate media. Obama is weak and thinks he can unite them. Oh, they will unite, to run him over.

Well, I had the most wonderful time as chaperone to Andy’s tea party last night. He, I mean she, Andy likes to be a girl, wanted to wear a nighty with depends, so I said that’s fine, as long as it’s covered up.
She and all the other girls stayed up to watch Auntie Mame and then played mahjong until 11, then they fell asleep on the bean bags in the basement. I had to unplug the PC though, because Andy kept getting up to check some Comment board. She was all jittery, and wet her bed three times.
Never again!
