Look, cartoon boy is making a mountain out of a Republican molehill.

And ignoring the Ku Klux Klinton “mountain of lies.”.

$$$$$

$$$$“I am absolutely astonished that Senator Klinton, a leading candidate on the Democrat side, says she wants to surrender in Iraq, she wants to wave the white flag. After all the sacrifice we’ve made in this surge, which everybody knows is succeeding, she wants to surrender and bring the troops home, and set a date for withdrawal,” McCain said. “I have never, never in American history heard of a leading candidate for president of the United States that wants to surrender to the enemy.”$$$$

I got to give the guy credit, that was right up her fat as-s.

$$$$When the discussion finally turned to the subject of Iraq, both Romney and Giuliani went out of the way to take shots at Hillary Clinton. Romney said it was “audacious and arrogant” for Klinton to have asserted earlier in the week that progress in Iraq is due, at least in part, to the Democrats pressing to get US forces out as quickly as possible. Success in Iraq, Romney said, “due to the blood and the courage of our servicemen and women, and to General Petraeus and to President Bush. Not to General Hillary Klinton.”$$$$

Bwa.

Damn, even Snowflake is getting some shots in.

$$$$”Ku Klux cast her vote after failing to read the national intelligence estimates on Iraq,” which raised doubts in some lawmakers’ minds about the justification of ousting Saddam Hussein, Obama said during a discussion with armed service members.$$$$

$$$$”We need accountability in our leaders,” said Obama, now a U.S. senator from Illinois. “You can’t undo a vote for war just because the war stopped being popular.”$$$$

And former allies:

$$$$Then there’s former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian, who once backed Bill Clinton but this week called his political attacks “reprehensible” and described one of Mrs. Clinton’s TV ads about Mr. Obama as “a lie.”$$$$

INTERNET EXCLUSIVE Photo surfaces of Clintons with Chicago developer Tony Rezko…KKKlintoon-‘I DON’T REMEMBER MEETING REZKO’

Bwa.

$$$$$

$$$$It was a remarkable moment: A young, free-thinking presidential hopeful named Bill Clinton sat down with reporters and editors at The Washington Post in October 1991 and started saying things most Democrats wouldn’t allow to pass their lips.$$$$

$$$$Ronald Reagan, Clinton said, deserved credit for winning the Cold War. He praised Reagan’s “rhetoric in defense of freedom” and his role in “advancing the idea that communism could be rolled back.”$$$$

Heh, KKKlintoon praising Reagan.

Heh.

$$$$$

$$$$Bill Clinton, with his trembly, red faced rage, makes John McCain look young. His divisive and destructive daily comportment—this is a former president of the United States—is a civic embarrassment. It is also an education, and there is something heartening in this.$$$$

Duh, like most true blue Repugs, knows that he can’t defend Bush or his minions, so he just goes on the attack against the Clintons. That’s going to be their whole strategy this election cycle.

My old boss used to describe repugs as “those old sorry mossyback Republicans”. I can see why.

Clinton’s lies = 0 deaths

Bush’s lies = 4,000+- military deaths and 40,000+- civilian deaths.

I guess in the GOP’s eyes this is a tie.

Shortly afterward, Obama chastised Republicans for their “sanctimony” in claiming that only they had the mettle to make tough choices in a tight budget year. And he called for “responsible budgeting.”

A fellow Democrat suddenly seethed with anger. “You got a lot of nerve to talk about being responsible,” said Sen. Rickey Hendon, accusing Obama of voting to close the child welfare office.

Obama replied right away. “I understand Sen. Hendon’s anger… . I was not aware that I had voted no on that last — last piece of legislation,” he said.

Obama asked that the record reflect that he meant to vote yes. Then he requested that Hendon “ask me about a vote before he names me on the floor.”

Hendon declined to discuss the episode. “I try to block out unpleasant memories,” said Hendon, who has endorsed Obama. “If I tried really hard to remember it, I probably could, but I’m not going to try hard because I’m supporting the senator all the way.”

Hendon said “it happens” that senators press the wrong button. But he was quick to add: “I’ve never done it.”

Desperate to change the subject, aren’t they? That’s because they can’t defend what Bush has done… and his aspiring “successors” are having trouble shaking off the Bush taint AND trying to inspire the faithful.

Meanwhile, Democratic frontrunners remain popular, effective, and on a smooth road to the White House. Wheee! It’s good to be a real American, rather than a Republican.

With promising signs of real progress in the past year –75% of Baghdad is now secure, up from just 8% a year ago – Soros and his brigade of leftists can’t stop thinking about defeat.

Kieran Michael Lalor, the founder of Iraq Veterans for Congress, a group of Republican Iraq war veterans running for Congress, said his campaign wasn’t surprised by the latest effort by Soros to spread lies about what’s really happening in Iraq. “But what’s disappointing is the media’s unwillingness to expose the demonstrated bias of those involved with the report. American military men and women in Iraq don’t expect much from George Soros, but it’s hard to swallow lazy reporting that enables his lies.”

The study claims that the Bush Administration issued false statements about the security threat posed by Iraq. The study is absurdly misleading, as are news reports discussing it.

Personally, I’m fed up with the left ignoring what their own leaders said about Iraq and WMD’s while calling what Bush said lies. I’ve never seen a collective group of more dishonest people than what we’re seeing today in this political environment. They act like Kerry, Clinton, Kennedy, etc. didn’t say the things they said and didn’t vote for this war. It’s just plain dishonest.

ML, you are disgusting with this toon. Are you going to publish one tomorrow with all the people close to the clintons who have met untimely deaths? You know the list I’m talking about. But both Clintons, campaigning separately, have wooed black and white supporters in South Carolina this week. An event Wednesday in Kingstree underscored the tension and suspicions animating the rivalry.

After fielding questions from an audience of about 200, Bill Clinton called on a black man standing near the stage. The man said he was a pastor and told Clinton that “black America is voting for Obama because he’s black.” He said Democrats are in a “dangerous position” because if Obama wins the nomination, voters will elect a Republican in November. “They’re not ready for a black president,” he said.

Several black audience members nodded and said, “That’s right.”

“I have to tell you I hope you’re not right,” Clinton responded.

He said that despite the “mean things” said about him “in the Obama camp this week,” he would support the Illinois senator if he is nominated.

“The reason I think Hillary is more electable is not race, it’s this,” Clinton said. “If there is a security crisis somewhere between now and the election, the fact that Hillary” has served on the Senate Armed Services Committee and visited more than 80 nations “will make it much harder for them to spook people by saying she can’t handle a national security crisis.”

The self-identified pastor later refused to give his name to The Associated Press.

If the racial minefields are worrisome, they don’t keep Obama from having fun with the heavily black audiences here. The Harvard Law School graduate sometimes playfully breaks into a black vernacular, which seems to amuse him and his audiences greatly.

“I need you to grab Cousin Pookie to vote,” he told a crowd in Kingstree on Thursday. “I need you to get Ray-Ray to vote.”

I’m sick of the racial BS from both of them.

Your link on Gen Powell’s briefing – the “investigator”’s credibility suffers when he said General Powell covered-up the My Lai massacre. Gen (then Major) Powell was charged with investigating a letter received alleging atrocities in Viet Nam. It never mentioned My Lai.

Your first link on Pres Bush. So many issues strung together under wiretaps. I wouldn’t be surprised if the first part dealt with general law, later cobbled bits dealt with the issue of warrants for communications originating overseas by non-US citizens, still another part dealt with calls overseas between non-US citizens routed though “switches” located in the US. Most of these issues should be dealt with individually, with reviews of how many make their way through the courts, as well as subsequent legislation, or executive orders, to modify practices.

Nuclear weapons link: well, calling for the elimination of nukes has general agreement as a general statement. There’re a number of Republicans in the list referenced. Who will oppose it as a “yes” or “no” choice? Rather like asking “are you in favor of people eating healthy and exercising?” Answer “no”? No way. Difficulty comes when parties not part of the process want to develop and use nukes. Or who are part of the process for PR but have not intention of living up to commitments. As far as no place – ask Pakistan what they think would happen with India if Pakistan didn’t have nukes. Then ask same question to India. Gotta provide them with some other mechanism.

Mountain man 8:24

One does not have to defend the Bush administration to find fault with the Clintons. One can easily criticize both (general comment, not intended for a supporter of the Administration. Luckoduh does offer some reasonable defenses and viewpoints, although sometimes the baiting language may obscure the larger issue).

John in Tampa, ITN:

Possibly it was Saddam Hussein who lied? Won’t cite the litany of Democrats pre-first year of Iraq war who believed him and our (and allies’) intelligence agencies. Iran also believed him. Wow, there’s an interesting thought for the Bush “lied” group: if true, then Iran lied, too!

In general, just because one doesn’t accept the “lied” thesis as applied directly to Pres Bush (although I won’t make the same argument for the likes of the Perles, Wolfowitzs and Feiths of the world) does not mean they see Democrats as pushing for the war with Iraq. Just means many people trusted the data they were given. Which data was wrong. Later denying that, but claiming instead another person willfully deceived, strikes some as disingenuous.

Thanks for the link. We drop by the site often. When Dad’s health permits, we attend reunions. There are only a few of the WWII pilots left. Generally about 4-5 are there. Most are from the Korean conflict.

It is amazing how they all retreat to a room to talk. You can watch from a distance and see them moving their hands in combat maneuvers. Warriors all!!

One pilot, Cecil O. Dean had the tail of his P-51 cut off by his own rookie wingman (on his first mission). Fortunately Dean was able to bail out and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. The squadron heard from Axis Sally that he had been captured…a mixture of joy and concern. Dad really cannot remember what happened to the rookie. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.” — John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

mike,

That’s why I won’t vote for her. If the candidate ain’t about getting out of Iraq - and redoubling our efforts in Afghanistan - they don’t get my vote.

“It’s Iraq, Folks!” “It’s Iraq!”

When Iraq ends, oil prices shoud drop significantly (it is estimated that there is about $40 dollars of “fear factor” in the current price of oil). Once oil prices drop, the cost of goods and services should drop as well.

Plus, a good Democrat will ween the corporations off the teet of government tax dollars, so even unreconstructed neo-cons will have more money in their pockets (just like they had at the end of the Clinton Administration).

$$$$But now, after Klinton’s “fairy tale” remark about Sen. Hey is John Kerry a liar too?

“The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but as I said, it is not new. It has been with us since the end of that war, and particularly in the last 4 years we know after Operation Desert Fox failed to force him to reaccept them, that he has continued to build those weapons. He has had a free hand for 4 years to reconstitute these weapons, allowing the world, during the interval, to lose the focus we had on weapons of mass destruction and the issue of proliferation.” — John Kerry, October 9, 2002

Goldie

I think that’s the nature of the analysis business. There will always be dissent, compromise and a majority opinion. And if it’s a really big issue, there will be those who after the fact said “I was right.” But that’s small consolation.

Opposite holds true, also. But in this case, given chem, biologicals and nerve agents, not nukes, many would have considered it very risky to make the assertion that, even if no longer existent, would not be redeveloped, quickly, in the future.

Some of the language was strong. Gave false impression it was either/or. It’s not. But that’s how politics works. I do think there were some within the administration who saw Saddam as a time bomb. Given what we’d been told about his ambitions for years and years, well, when 9-11 hit, I think the possibility, in some peoples’ minds, of Saddam hooking up with terrorists, grew. And one element in such risk analysis is not just the probability of an event occurring, it’s the probable impact if it should occur.

Just saying how I think the situation probably developed, at least in part.

One guy who as at the forefront, whose assessments were correct and even stronger than official UN Reports, but who was shut down (from what I’ve seen, in a case of political retribution and hardball rarely employed) was Mark Ritter. Lots of garbage about him on Google. But when he became a pariah and absolutely no news organization would interview him, after the criminal charges were revealed as bogus, the first to interview him about his experience, why he said everyone else was wrong and what happened to him? Fox. Not relevant to this conversation, just had to get that in.

I do hope what we have now are Congressmen and Senators who will actually read and study information given to them that forms the basis for a momentous vote. Some things shouldn’t be delegated to staffers. Some may have read it and still voted for war. But at least they would have more fully discharged their responsibilities. No one to blame but themselves, there.

Hey economist TM, why don’t you wow us with some more of your “banks make money by keeping it in a vault” logic from yesterday and tell us what about us leaving Iraq will make the price of oil go down $40/barrel? Demand means nothing. It’s the stability of regions from which we get our oil that causes the great price fluctuations (remember the ’70s after the Iranian hostage crisis?). That didn’t involve Saudi Arabia or S. America, either. But oil prices soared.

So why has it taken 5 years for the price of oil to get to $100/barrel? If stability in the region was the driving factor, we would have seen it skyrocket on day 1 of the Iraq war. Things are much more stable over there today than they were 5 years ago and even a year ago. Your logic doesn’t seem to hold true to the facts, TM. Also, of the top 5 countries we import oil from, 75% of what we import, only SA is in the region of unrest. Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and Nigeria aren’t anywhere near there. So what’s the threat to them, dimwit? You did know we get more oil from Canada than we do from Iraq, didn’t you? Or are you all mouth and no brain?

Extra!, the magazine of the progressive media watch group Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting, has criticized the MRC for selective use of evidence—the MRC had complained, for example, that there was more coverage of government death squads in right-wing El Salvador than in left-wing Nicaragua, without mentioning that there were roughly a thousand times more extra-judicial killings in El Salvador. Extra! also characterized the MRC as wanting to force out of the media any opinions that it disagreed with, even tracking the off-screen political comments of actors in a project that the magazine said “bore an uncomfortable resemblance to Red Channels, the McCarthy Era blacklisting journal.” [2]

The liberal media watch group Media Matters for America has also repeatedly criticized the MRC, charging that they view the media “through a funhouse mirror that renders everything—even the facts themselves—as manifestations of insidious bias.” [3]

Putin’s all about gas!

Two posts:

((The Serbian leadership and Moscow signed a deal Jan. 25 on energy cooperation. Specifically, the agreement deals with the potential sale of 51 percent of Serbian energy monopoly NIS to Russian state energy firm Gazprom.))

((For President Boris Tadic — who lost the first-round presidential vote Jan. 20 to Nikolic — there are two concerns. The first is securing an electoral victory in the second-round election Feb. 3. The second is pushing Serbia in the direction of Europe — specifically via the signing and implementation of a Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), the first step toward EU membership. Achieving these goals means forging an agreement with Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica in order to gain Kostunica’s endorsement (the votes of Kostunica’s supporters should be enough to make the difference and give Tadic a victory).))

((Tadic opposes the NIS sale both on principle (he finds the Russian lowball offer insulting) and in strategic terms (a rival offer from Austria’s OMV would deeply integrate Serbia into European structures). But this is all secondary to his vision for Serbia (joining the European Union) and achieving re-election. If supporting the deal earns Kostunica’s endorsement on both counts, then support the deal he will.))

((For Kostunica, keeping everything in play is the preferred strategy, because as things get locked down — whether those things be the NIS sale, a Kosovo independence declaration, or progress on accession talks with the European Union — his flexibility diminishes. In the current case, Kostunica has managed to put himself (again) in the middle of everything. Tadic needs him to get re-elected, Nikolic needs him for the NIS sale, Europe needs him to get the SAA agreement approved, and Russia needs him to get its foot into the Serbian energy sector.))

By @@

January 25, 2008 1:57 PM | Link to this

Cont’d.

((For Russia, the NIS deal really has little to do with Serbia, and is more about nailing down as much economic influence in Europe as possible. Russia, via Gazprom, has been trying to get a hold of pieces of Europe’s distribution and retail natural gas networks for three years. But European fears that Russia plans to use these networks to exercise political influence have prevented Russia from making more than negligible progress.))

((According to the agreement signed in Moscow on Jan. 25, the NIS deal has only been agreed to in principle. The pesky detail about price is still up in the air and subject to further discussions — which in essence means the entire deal is not yet done.))

((For Tadic and Kostunica this is an ideal scenario. The deal is not yet permanent, so Kostunica retains his position as kingmaker while Tadic could back out of it once the second round of Serbia’s presidential elections are behind him. Nikolic and the Kremlin, of course, would have preferred a firmer deal Jan. 25, but the agreement is certainly a step in the right direction for them as it gives more momentum to closer Russo-Serbian relations — although obviously not as much as they had hoped.))

In a Jan. 18 op-ed in the Washington Post, Iraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, an independent but influential Shiite politician affiliated with ruling Shiite Islamist coalition the United Iraqi Alliance, wrote that “the political objectives of Iraq’s three main communities are unrealizable within the framework of a unitary, centralized state… . Resolution can be achieved only through a system that incorporates regional federalism, with clear, mutually acceptable distributions of power between the regions and the central government.” Al-Rubaie is not just talking about how to get the various groups to agree upon a power-sharing formula under the existing system, but to reach a settlement on an entirely new system — one that does not entail a central Iraqi state but instead sets up a federal state that gives extensive autonomy to its regions.

Of course, such essays appear with disclaimers that they reflect the views of the author, not official state policy. But the reality on the ground in Iraq clearly shows that al-Rubaie is expressing the views of large and significant groups in the Iraqi political landscape. The Kurds already are enjoying the fruits of federalism in the north, and the most powerful Shiite group — which also happens to be the most pro-Iranian — is calling for a similar autonomous federal region comprising the nine Shiite-majority provinces in southern Iraq.

There is great opposition to both federal zones from various Sunni — as well as Shiite — quarters within Iraq, and also from the United States, Turkey and neighboring Sunni Arab states. Aware of this, al-Rubaie proposes a new federalist model of Iraq, consisting of five provinces: A “‘Kurdistan province,’ including the current Kurdistan and surrounding areas; a ‘Western province,’ including Mosul and the upper Tigris and Euphrates valleys; a ‘Kufa province,’ built around the Middle Euphrates governorates; a ‘Basra province,’ including the lower Tigris and Euphrates valleys; and a ‘Baghdad province,’ built around Greater Baghdad, which may include parts of Diyala and Salah ad Din governorates.”

“We remain committed to a federal, democratic, pluralist and unified Iraq in which there is full respect for political and human rights,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan said then. “A partition government with regional security forces and a weak central government … is something that no Iraqi leader has proposed, and that th

So that’s why the box goes red…

cont’d.

“A partition government with regional security forces and a weak central government … is something that no Iraqi leader has proposed, and that the Iraqi people have not supported.”

Biden pointed out that Iraq’s constitution “allows for the creation of federal regions.” The document was approved overwhelmingly in a vote of nearly 10 million citizens in 2005.

“Whether it’s three regions or five regions or 15 regions, this is a technicality that will be left to Iraqis on the ground.” “What we need is a system of governance such that a multi-ethnic, sectarian society can live with one another. The centralized government has failed since its inception.”

Sen. Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat also eyeing the presidency, said the Biden-Gelb plan might ultimately be the path Iraqis choose. “It may break down to that,” said Dodd, who fears such a division might lead Iraq’s neighbors to attack one or more regions and expand the fighting.

I don’t know if this will work or if they’ll be able to implement it, but I do know that the decision had to be left up to the Iraqis and it seems as though it’s under consideration.

Talabani, who advocated a federalist Iraq has recently invited Ahmadenijad for a visit.

Hmmmmmmm, who knows where this may go?

Patience…patience…patience—it’s something Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and President Bush shared. Not so with the Democrat’s top three left in the race.

Meanwhile, all of these engines reportedly will be built to function with fairly conventional fuel. The airframe also will function better than earlier designs as a lifting body at lower speeds — meaning the airframe will not need an exceptionally long runway to take off or land at extremely high speeds.)))

rushncap,

Hell, in the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures, is associated with fire and with the kind of obliteration that, to the ancient peoples, only fire could bring about.

May I ask then, what is your Scriptural warrant for concluding that this makes Hell a place of pain?

No wonder municipal governments spend so much. What kind of internal controls do they have? Looks like more public servants have forgotten who they work for and who pays for their “gotta have” equipment and services.

RW - the political party was implied - they didn’t have to explicitely state it. Guy was married, committing adultery, lied on the witness stand, impeded justice, misled investigators, lied some more, of course he has to be…

oops. Guess a certain party doesn’t have a lock on the morality card.

rushncap

Whatever doctrine you wish to follow is fine. You might want to think in symbolic terms, though. Especially the hellfire stuff. Other seems so literal. Then again, I’ve always wondered why there aren’t more fundamentalist engineers.

Sis: I wouldn’t go that deep with it, after all, we are talking about rushncrap, aren’t we?

What he’s trying to say, in his little college boy focus group approach is that since choking your chicken feels good, than it must be morally better than being condemned to hell.

He’s got a firm grip on the center of his little universe, hahaha.

Little punk rushncap,

It’s about the sacrilege, dude. It’s kinda like making a joke about sodomizing someone’s mother, only worse.

It’s just not done in polite society, but what would you know about that?

Well, if it’s “symbolic” then there is no hell, no punishment for unbelief, no reason TO believe, and pretty much all of Christianity falls apart.

What am I missing, Paul?

Muffin — considering your whole name basically means “I support sacrilege and you should too”, you probably should — how do they say it in polite society — shut the hell up.

@@, can’t you get Cinemax at your trailer and stop talking about my genitals? I’m flattered by your obsession, but that feeling of flattery is quite overwhelmed by complete repulsion that a senile old hag is obsessed with my body. I’m no expert on “polite society”, but maybe if you ask Muffin she’ll let you know if obsessively talking about sexual organs of someone else is acceptable in one. Go get a vibrator and a Cheney poster, and go to town. Leave me out of your sexual fantasies, if you please.

LOL! Could be. I’ll be brief, not too cryptic, I hope.

rushncap

Having fun yet?

Most anything written from the old texts can be symbolic. Repetition of certain numbers - 40 days and nights of testing, 40 days and nighs of flood, symbolism of 40, same with the 12. 40 years of wandering in the wilderness by Israelites. Symbolism of old ideas dying away (generations) to fully embrace going to new state of consciousness. The stories - Moses going into the wilderness, symbolism of confusion of what one can do vs what is right. Raven going from the ark, Egyptian symbols of doubt. Dove - God’s love - seen again throughout New Testament. Esp. with olive branch. Lot’s wife to pillar of salt. Salt - preservation. Going out of limited understanding, looking back, holding on to old ideas, never coming fully into the God consciousness.

Even the names. Israel. Isis. Ra. El. Masculine and feminine. Administrative. Power. To the heavens (higher).

Jesus as teacher. Example. The heaven within. Hell - limitation, separation from greater good.

Lotsa reasons why Christianity works for many. Again, whatever works for you. Or doesn’t. But is isn’t simply a case of reading something one way and thinking everything is predicated upon that.

Muffin, darling, distract yourself from shiny things for a moment to listen: I have no problem with blaspheming ANYONE. I can just as easily talk about sodomizing Jesus, Mohammed, Allah, Peter, John, Paul, Moses, Zeus, Easter Bunny, Flying Spaghetti Monster, Krishna, Isis and a billion other invented gods and prophets of invented gods. You, however, have no problem blaspheming some, but rear up on your haunches when someone blasphemes yours. We adults call it “hypocrisy”.

OK, you may go back to shiny things now.

Paul: Not many engineers get to study what happens to the soul after death and then live to tell about it.

And most engineers I’ve met in my life are mental basket cases, although well versed in their chosen studies, usually too hung up on the details to see the, uh, big picture.

Christ has given all of us a choice. Either except Him as your Savior or be separated from Him, which is the place better known as hell.

As far as suffering, who really knows? I never been there and I don’t plan on going. Just like some people have faith that they rose up from the pond scum, I have faith that I was Created by God the Father Almighty, a very loving and merciful God.

And He ain’t no Mohammed.

Remember the scene when he’s moonlighting as a streetwalker and propositions Lois? Remember how he leans through the car window and offers her a “Cleveland steamer”?
