Unfortunately, every cartoon can’t be focused on our dummy-in-chief and his inept minions, as much as we like to kick his sorry a%$s around, which he so richly deserves. Every once in a while we need to come up for air and laugh at some of the other idiots in our society, which they also richly deserve.

Yes, Mike is one of the handful of real talents in journalism. It’s the highlight of my coffee time to open the newspaper and see what his mind has put together. He goes that step or two beyond what an ordinary mind would do with a news event. Most comedians simply find the common thread between two or three disparate items in the news and then simply mine humor by sewing them together. But Mike Luckovich gives it a twist that really satisfies, and remarkably it’s usually a screwball that only he could have pitched.
We maybe should applaud our hometown artist more!!

US-LED coalition and paramilitary forces in Iraq were responsible for some 24,000 violent civilian deaths in 2007, according to an independent group monitoring casualties in the war-ravaged country. The Iraq Body Count (IBC) whose figures are tallied from media reports, morgue and hospital data, non-governmental and other sources, said in a report that there were between 22,586 and 24,159 violent civilian deaths in Iraq during the past year. “Perhaps the most accurate description of the security situation for Iraqi civilians in the past year is that it was less bad than if the worst of the late 2006 levels had been sustained throughout 2007,” the group said in a statement.

I hesitate to give too much attention to Mike Huckabee’s promote-my-ad-for-free attack, but Michael Crowley raises a good point. About mid-way through the ad, during a litany of accusations against Mitt Romney, Huckabee criticizes his rival with this data point: “No executions.” Apparently, Huckabee — you know, the evangelical, pro-life Republican — is going after Romney for not having executed any Americans during his gubernatorial tenure. I realize Republican politics are far more crass than norms should allow, but it’s disconcerting to think “You didn’t kill anyone” has suddenly become a criticism in conservative circles.

getalife,
Clinton certainly attracts a lot of nutjobs to her offices.
“He’s one of these guys we’ve dealt with before in town here. We’re aware of his behaviors,” the police chief said. “I don’t want to say off-the-wall, but his behaviors can be kind of just that — a little intimidating or a little non-clear on just what he is intending when he talks to people.”
Is that what attracts you to her?

The grand poobah is pleased with RW/duhng today. I’m amazed at RW/Duhng’s meteoric rise to blog-trolls-of-the-day with their metamorphic metaphor turning the Journal into a Urinal. Why, they postively went medieval on the AJC. This original, never-gets-old pun reflects on their mothers who potty-trained them into the sticky keyboards they are today. It’s understandable. RW spends alot of time unzipping files and all; add a mouse and you can see how it could all come together so well.
But the important thing is that they’re out there, hacking Rushannity, stealing metaphors, misreading news flashes, wishing they were Connie Chung.
They’re good trolls, not our best trolls, but they’re on the blog, 24/7, reinventing the art of punmaking.
I decree, as grand poobah, that RW/Duhng is the troll of the day!!
Props!

Well, her vast and deep knowledge was easily blown away by poking around on Google for 10 or 20 minutes. Her vast and deep knowledge was in fact entirely wrong. The only thing vast and deep about the Clinton machine is its tendency to lie and toss out vast and deep quantities of BS.
{{{{{And saying “Well, his party is on the ballot” is true, but it’s also irrelevant. The now postponed Pakistani election won’t replace Musharraf and never would have. It’s about parliament and the prime minister job. Hillary didn’t know what she was talking about.}}}}}
{{{{{Hillary Clinton made a series of major mistakes on a major story, mistakes that show that she doesn’t know the story as well as she claims to. She ought to own up to that, get up to speed on the story, and make amends. That’s what normal people do. But that’s never been the Clinton MO. From San Jose Mercur News:
ATLANTA—A television reporter turned political candidate said he plans to remain on a small scaffold near the top of a tower to focus attention on his long-shot bid to unseat a U.S. senator.
Dale Cardwell was hoisted more than 300 feet up the Corey Tower near downtown Atlanta on Tuesday morning. He said he expects to remain there “for days,” sleeping in an insulated sleeping bag and eating military rations. A Webcam tracks his limited movements. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s.
Cardwell, who hopes to unseat Republican Saxby Chambliss, said he thinks the publicity stunt won’t hurt his credibility, but will make people curious about his message: that politicians should pay more attention to the concerns of working people and less to those of wealthy corporate interests.
Cardwell faces DeKalb County chief executive Vernon Jones in the Democratic primary July 15.

What about complaints about CEOs earning so much more than the average worker? Before looking at CEOs, let’s look at another area of huge pay differences. According to Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list, Oprah Winfrey earned $260 million. Even if her makeup person or cameraman earned $100,000, she earns thousands of times what they earn. Among the celebrities earning hundreds or thousands of times more than the people who work with them are: Steven Spielberg ($110 million), Tiger Woods ($100 million), Jay Leno ($32 million) and Dr. Phil ($30 million). According to Forbes, the top 10 celebrities and athletes earned an average of $116 million in 2004 compared to an average of $59 million earned by the top 10 corporate CEOs.
{{{{{When Jack Welch became General Electric’s CEO in 1981, the company was worth about $14 billion. Through hiring and firing, buying and selling decisions, Welch turned the company around and when he retired 20 years later, GE was worth nearly $500 billion. What’s a CEO worth for such an achievement? If Welch was paid a measly one-half of a percent of GE’s increase in value, his total compensation would have come to nearly $2.5 billion, instead of the few hundred million that he actually received.}}}}}
