More bad news for the democrats:
{{{{US online retail sales have been growing at better-than-expected rates in the run-up to the holidays, according to Wall Street analysts and internet retailers.}}}}
Gee, I thought every one was in the homeless shelter?
~~~~~~
Two Urinals in one!:
{{{{IRAQ DEVELOPMENTS- The U.S. public increasingly (((believes))) the U.S. is making military progress in Iraq.}}}}
How can the “U.S. public” believe in Iraq progress when the pinkos at the Urinal don’t?
But one blurb later, signs of Iraq progress:
{{{{Hundreds of Iraqi refugees boarded buses in Syria on Tuesday in the first convoy from an Iraqi-funded effort to speed the return of Iraqi families that fled the war.}}}}
~~~~~~
Two Urinals in one:
Queen Pinko cutting Atlanta some slack that Urinal has never given the Bush led government:
{{{{Atlanta will never be able to place a police officer on every corner. And even a large force wouldn’t be able to combat every domestic dispute or drug crime that escalates into violence.}}}}
But, several pages before this:
{{{{Roadblock shootings have consistently fed anti-U.S. sentiment among many Iraqis since the arrival of American forces in 2003.}}}}
I’m pretty sure it depends on which Iraqi’s you ask, the “terrorists” or the innocent women and children.

{{{{Mr. Thompson wants to abolish the death tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax and cut the corporate income tax rate to 27% from 35%. But his really big idea is a voluntary flat tax that would give every American the option of ditching the current code in favor of filing a simple tax return with two tax rates of 10% and 25%.}}}}
{{{{Liberals are already objecting that the plan is not “paid for,” by which they mean it doesn’t raise taxes the way they hope the next President will. But Mr. Thompson is right in refusing to play by the “static revenue” scoring game that demands that one dollar in estimated tax cuts be offset by one dollar in estimated tax increases somewhere else. “The experts always overrate the revenue losses from tax cuts,” Mr. Thompson says, and history supports him going back to the Mellon reductions of the 1920s, the Kennedy tax cuts of the 1960s, the Gipper’s in the 1980s, and this decade’s success with President Bush’s reductions.}}}}

Good morning children…and conservatives!
Since I didn’t get to reply yesterday, lets cover a few things…
First, I don’t intentionally post things twice. As tempting as that would be with the “repeat it until you believe it” liberal crowd, that’s just not the case.
Second, Your attempts to claim some RB/Zell or whoever else dual ID’s is a joke. I’ve never posted under any other sign on, never hijacked someone else’s sign on, and I won’t. Question for ITN and Amvet… Can you honestly make the same statement?
The problem here is the simpletons think since they use multiple sign ons and regularly hijack others ID’s, that everyone else must be doing it too. They don’t realize there are people in this world with honor. It’s part of whats wrong with our political system these days. There is no sense of morality on the left any longer and anything is fair game. But that’s not a surprise since morality is based in the Bible and the left has moved so far away from Christian values, even denounced them, they have no qualms about behaving like children in an enviroment that was once honorable. It’s a shame.

Only SpamVet would have the gaul to proclaim Andy’s vulgarity at 7:04 last night after ranting on at me with his colorful expletives. What a runt…
(((And I am not exaggerating when I say every other word of his was an invective or vulgar swear)))
(((Pray tell? What was it before? Not Not? Or *? Maybe !@#$%^&?))) and this (((And let’s face facts, you couldn’t find your own a$$ with both hands))) and this (((Since you slipped past thirty, better keep the sex dirty))) AmVet’s oft used “clusterf&k” is a favorite of mine.
((I have enjoyed everyday back, and look forward to more debate with out the filth.)))
Would that be without YOUR filth SpamVet? It’s acceptable only when you bring it?
Speaking, once again of obsession — SpamVet’s first post of the day after his hardy “Good morning everyone” I’m here…I’m here. Bow down before your leader. (O.K. I embellished just a tad but I know a “dick-tater” when I see one)
(((Paul, though you are sometimes flamed for being what I consider open minded, i.e. - not absolutely intractable in your opinions or beliefs - I would caution you not to take much (any?) of what Andy writes as legitimate or credible.)))
In AmVet’s arrogance he failed to realize that he insulted Paul’s intelligence. Like Paul doesn’t have the gift of discernment or something. Gotta “dick” them “taters” right AmVet?
Sorry Paul, I wasn’t implying you were a tater; it was AmVet what dunnit.
Andy made four posts prior to SpamVet’s entry and not one of them mentioned the “Dick-Tater” AmVet. I ask…who’s obsessed with whom?
Funniest day on the blog was when RE petitioned Andy to tone it down. Andy preceded every post with “Dear” and signed off with “Love Andy”. I still laugh when I think about it. If I recall RE also chastised HUGE/AmVet. His response wasn’t funny. Go figure.
And let’s get this one squared away right now:
(((@@, the first Great Defender of Andy said, “Who are you? We’ve been here longer. If you don’t like it STFU or go someplace else.”))) How very childish AmVet…
What I actually said was “If you can’t move beyond Andy and his method of delivery then maybe you should find a site more to your liking.” “

THE LOBBYIST’S SENATOR: Lott has warmly embraced the entreaties of lobbyists while in the Senate. For example, he “tops the list” of “lawmakers who have most frequently been jetted around the country aboard the luxurious private jets of Corporate America.”

Sen. Arlen Specter yesterday said it was his understanding that new regulations on lobbying by ex-lawmakers played a significant role in Sen. Trent Lott’s decision to retire, contradicting what the Mississippi senator told reporters in his home state.If he steps down at the end of the year, Mr. Lott, a Republican, will be able to begin lobbying after just a year’s wait, rather than two.Mr. Specter suggested Mr. Lott has been experiencing “financial problems” since Hurricane Katrina destroyed his beachfront home in Pascagoula, Miss., in 2005. Soon after, he involved himself in a class-action legal dispute with State Farm Insurance, claiming the wreckage was caused primarily by the high winds and not by flooding. Many homeowner’s policies don’t cover flood damage but will cover wind damage.

Please do not confuse the following as an argument against the Code Pinkos aborting and sterilizing themselves right out of existence, which I am wholeheartedly in favor of:
{{{{The couples who choose abortion and sterilization may not save the planet, but they’re saving the gene pool a mess o’ trouble by purging their own from the mix. The Darwin Awards folks, who honor those who improve the species by accidentally removing themselves from it, will have to create a new category: People Too Narcissistic To Procreate.}}}}
{{{{Suddenly, the unborn is of no greater importance than the contents of our recycling bin. Like Weight Watchers dieters substituting carbs for sugars, we trade off future members of the human race to neutralize insults to Earth’s balance in the present.}}}}
This should open up the eyes of everybody but the most hopeless of the dimwits to how ridiculous liberals and their ideas really are.
But don’t let me stop you from sterilizing your little pinko self, go ahead on.

“As Coleman admits, his “expertise” is in weather — not climate change science. “
I look forward to your links - so many are good for an early chuckle. When I read the quote assailing the skeptic because he isn’t a scientist with a background in climate change, I had to wonder…. geeee, how many of the “scientists” the “global warming is manmade and man can control it” group refers to are… climate change scientists? Not just, oh, general biologists? Or research chemists?
But you’ve introduced a good standard (only statements from weather change scientists should be given credence) for the future debate. G’bye, Mr. Gore. Thanks.
BTW - your 8:09 - that’s the most succinct statement yet that likely reflects what a lot of Americans think - there is military progress in Iraq. But they still want the troops out. Too bad for them - only a couple of candidates share their view and their chances of obtaining their Party’s nomination are nil.

(((Blog addictions and blog obsessions are serious new conditions that need our attention.)))
I couldn’t agree with you more. This next one will be a little long as well but it has some interesting points.
From Stratfor:
(((First, Iranian navy commander Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayari said Nov. 24 that the force will receive a new submarine Nov. 28 and has scheduled naval maneuvers in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman for February. During this announcement, Sayari went out of his way to point out that Iran does not plan to close the Strait of Hormuz but is prepared to guard its interests — essentially reminding the world of Tehran’s control over a major transit point through which 20 percent of the world’s energy supplies pass. Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar then marked the opening of the Annapolis peace conference with the revelation that Iran’s extensive missile program has produced a new MRBM capable of hitting not only Israel but also probably Moscow.)))
Did Iran just threaten Moscow?
(((This is an especially crucial time for Iran. Several positive trends in Iraq unexpectedly have left the United States in a better negotiating position than it has seen for more than a year. Meanwhile, Baghdad and Washington are hammering out agreements behind Iran’s back over the future status of U.S. forces in Iraq (read: permanent military bases). In fact, Iraqi Shiite leader Abdel Aziz al-Hakim — the chief of Iraq’s largest Shiite party and a close ally of Tehran — was in Washington on Tuesday to negotiate just such a long-term bilateral pact.)))
(((In other words, the most important negotiations in the region are still those between the United States and Iran, and they are getting serious. Tehran needs to regain its former negotiating position, and fast. Washington is starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.)))

Authorities also shut down a pirate radio station run by the Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat-i-Mohammadi (Movement for the Enforcement of Mohammed’s Laws, or TNSM) jihadist group, which is based in Swat and has influence in the neighboring districts of Dir and Malakand and the agency of Bajaur in the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA). So Musharraf finally did it — he dumped his uniform.
(((There are a number of indications that Musharraf’s position as a civilian ruler is untenable. For starters — and contrary to what has been percolating in the media — Kayani is known to be an independent-minded person with solid professional credentials and, unlike Musharraf, has a tough attitude toward Islamist militants. Kayani also has a decent working relationship with the country’s top opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto, who he served as deputy military secretary when she was prime minister in the 1990s. Additionally, as COAS, he will now move to appoint a new deputy and reshuffle the deck of generals to his liking.)))
(((On the other side, Washington is working with the key opposition players to reach an accommodation with Musharraf regarding some semblance of free and fair elections. In any case, the election will produce a coalition government likely led by Bhutto, which not only will be unstable in of itself, but also will be locked in a power struggle with Musharraf.)))
(((Under normal circumstances, the army would view a civilian Musharraf as one of its own and would prefer to work with him to deal with the civilians. But this assumes he can manage the civilians, which is doubtful. Therefore, it is likely that in a future confrontation between the president and parliament, the army chooses to remove Musharraf in order to break the gridlock.)))
(((Essentially, as Stratfor has said before, personalities — in uniform or otherwise — do not matter. In his farewell speech, Musharraf himself acknowledged this much, saying, “The system continues, people come and go.” It is the military institution — the collection of top generals — that drives events in the country. Therefore, the thing to watch for in the days ahead is not what Musharraf does or does not do, but whether the army can restore political stability and deal with an unprecedented jihadist insurgency.)))

Now, I can appreciate that argument…really, I can. That is a valid point of view, and held by most. One thing I have to consider in all this freedom vs. security argument is EXACTLY how it affects me now and how it affects me and my chillins down the road. I can’t name one single freedom that I have given up post 9.11. I know many are spooked about what the gov’t is looking into. heck, I had an uncle-in-law that thought that the gov’t looked at him through his TV.
I can do everything, say anything, go anywhere, etc. now that I could do pre 9.11. Absolutely nothing, from my point of view, is different. Those that argue the contrary speak of people being afraid, of being cowards. Think about it….gov’t spying on you…what are you afraid of? Isn’t that also being afraid? From my perspective, I don’t fear the terrorists, and I don’t fear spying (although it does run contrary to my feelings on limiting govt as a whole). I don’t like the govt programs, not because of what they are, but because they are yet more govt programs we don’t need.

There’s always hope as long as we have three coequal branches of government. While, yes, the current Executive sought to expand Executive power to redress what it saw as lessening equality regards the other branches, some, in response, have sought to make the Legislative more powerful.
It’ll be an eternal balancing act.
Regarding the 10:47 - nothing diabolical here:
“Federal prosecutors issued the subpoena last year as part of a grand jury investigation into a former Madison official who was a prolific seller of used books on Amazon.com. They were looking for buyers who could be witnesses in the case.”
What we have to watch out for are officials who take something like the Patriot Act provisions and use the language to try to shut down a strip club (true story). No, I’m not making a social statement - I’m saying statutes designed to fight jihadists will still be used by some law enforcement or political types to further their own agendas, intent of the law be hung. Those are the ones who should be scrutinized.

It’s gone far beyond the “we want to expose his family values hypocrisy” line.
But my question is valid - and the implications extend far beyond this issue.
I’ll have to see if I can find the PBS show on a rerun. For so many Dems with such a fascination about Rep candidates’ families, they sure don’t extend their judgments to the Kennedys.
Lots of interesting information on JFK’s political rise. Joe Sr had angered Costello - Mob boss in NYC who put out a contract on Joe. Joe went to Giancana - head of the Chicago mob with whom he was on good terms. Giancana spoke with Costello, got the hit stopped. This was way before JFK’s run - but Joe Sr had been grooming his sons for political office long before. That’s the episode Giancana refers to when he said Joe Sr said, you do this for me, my son becomes Pres, he’ll owe you for saving his dad’s life.
The genesis of the family fortune. And one of my pet issues - the shielding of the family wealth from ordinary taxation - and a Senator who regularly harps on “fairness.”

And what, about a third of all tax refunds go straight back into consumer spending? That should be great for the economy in the midst of a slumping real estate market and credit crunch. Seems like a great time to plunge us into depression over a procedural matter. But hey, I’m glad you came to work for 30 seconds to make sure that someone doesn’t temporarily end up on the sixth circuit court who is puzzled by the fact that the words “right to an abortion” are nowhere in the constitution. Working hard, or hardly workin’ Harry?
Slowed your tax return down by ten weeks.
Thanks, pinkos.

Check all the listings for that JFK documentary because I can’t be absolutely certain it was PBS. I watch a lot on the History Channel too.
As to your “far beyond” — I read at “The Dissident Voice” this morning that “Screaming Howie’s” run for the presidency was internally sabotaged by the Dems themselves. He was the liberal’s “grassroots guy” although I found his roots to be rather shallow. How dare those Dem nymatodes…grubs in layman’s terms.

“Olbermann: “With or without this new law, suppose one of the anti-wiretapping civil lawsuits succeeds, what does that legal victory actually mean then in terms of stopping the government or punishing Alberto Gonzales or any other top officials who were responsible for this?”
Turley: “Well, it can mean a lot and that’s one of the reasons there’s a lot of people, both Democrats and Republicans, who don’t want to see it happen. They don’t want a court to say that the president did something that is a federal crime. That’s why they’re trying to get all these cases thrown out of court because it is rather clear that what the president ordered was a federal crime, clearly defined in federal law. But that causes a problem because many of the Democratic leaders and Republican leaders have promised each other that they would not start impeachment proceedings, but when a federal judge says the president committed a crime, it’s pretty darn hard to ignore that.”

Joe Biden to Brody File: Giuliani “knows so little about foreign policy”
HIGHLIGHT:
Brody: Some Republicans like Giuliani and others said that some Democratic candidates refuse to talk about a global war on terror and Islamic terrorists. Do you believe there is a global war on terror?
Biden: Sure there is, but with these guys, he knows so little about foreign policy he confuses terrorists cells and organizations with countries. There was no al-Qaeda in Iraq before this war. Al-Qaeda became a Bush-fulfilling prophecy. It didn’t exist until Bush went to war. Even our own intelligence community says that. But these guys buy into this silliness that if you don’t fight them in Baghdad you’re going to fight them in Boston. Give me a break…. I can hardly wait to debate these guys. The only guy on that side with any knowledge about foreign policy is John McCain.

Or the concept of everyone, except those at the poverty level, paying taxes to support their responsibilities as a citizen? Or the weaknesses engendered by an education system given to local control and taxation? Or the contradictions in the position of those who decry America’s involvement in the Middle East, yet who oppose steps to eliminate America’s use of ME oil? The exiting board is a bunch of politically appointed hacks who has mismanged the place into oblivion. Why are they being asked to correct the problem they created? If they new how to fix it, wouldn’t they have already done that?
So this exisiting board will create a new board for the non profit consiting of 4 of the existing board plus 1 more person they select. Those 5 will select the rest of the new board (17 People). The new board will report to the existing board which will remain intact, even though they’re incompetent.
They want guarantees the 5,000 employees won’t be fired, yet give no suggestions how costs might be reduced any other way.
They demand $30MM from the state and say thats a good starting point for negotiations. How about we start at ZERO?
They demand the med schools feeding them doctors don’t leave them and give them more money. I’m sure lots of potential doctors will be thrilled to work at a place that may or may not be able to pay them.
I think it’s pretty clear why the place is in the situation it’s in…

Most astonishing of all is that you are so disarranged in your reasoning that you consider yourself vindicated [“We aim to please!”] of plagiarism and libel by yet again republishing, with attribution this time, an external post which was itself a plagiarism of an unattributed Bloomberg.com column, except that your source added the the actionable defamations you’ve continued to republish.

That’s been my experience - generally try to live their beliefs. Always going to find some who fall short - but hey, at least they have standards most of ‘em try for.
I’m rather disappointed with Romney. Worked well with a Dem legislature, good things done with health care, talked about honoring precedent and pretty well leaving abortion law alone.
Then candidate Romney seemed to change. Okay, I can buy the reason for the differences in health care proposal being not wanting to usurp state power. Leaving abortion alone (most appropriate for a candidate, I think - a Pres MAY be able to nominate a Justice, other than that it’s all a hot air distraction) then not.
Maybe part of it’s just running the socially conservative gauntlet to get the nomination. Rather like Hillary does with her foreign policy announcements. But I rather like Guiliani’s comment about a mayor of a city larger than some countries has a different constituency and responsibilities than a President. That sounds like a reasonable basis for change.
Don’t want to wander here, but with Romney - several of the things I’ve mentioned - I’ll still have to think on whether they really mean a hill of beans regarding what I expect from a President.

Well chit! This is a new name on the horizon. When the heck did this happen?
Lebanon moved closer Wednesday to a long-sought deal for army chief Gen. Michel Suleiman to become the next president in the first signs of a breakthrough between its divided factions, after the Annapolis conference eased tensions between their main backers, the United States and Syria.
(((Suleiman is seen as a neutral figure in a country where nearly every politician is considered either in the pro- or anti-Syrian camp - one with the weight to ensure neither side dominates the other.)))
(((Lebanon’s constitution bars a sitting army commander from becoming president. But on Wednesday, the largest bloc in parliament - the anti-Syrian Future Movement - announced it has dropped its rejection of amending the constitution.)))
(((A deal is not yet done. The opposition, led by Syria and Iran’s ally Hizbullah, has not announced their stance on Suleiman, though he is respected among its leadership. There also remain deeply divisive questions over how to change the constitution.)))
(((The movement could be a result of the easing of tensions between Damascus and Washington that culminated with Tuesday’s Mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland, which Syria attended. The US-Syrian rivalry has often played itself out in Lebanon’s complex politics - and in past weeks each side in Lebanon has accused the other’s international backer of meddling to block a deal on a president.)))
How am I supposed to keep up with all this stuff? These countries change gears as often as liberal posters change their names here.

Reading back a minute ago I looked at one of her “links” on Giuliani, a Mister X one. She is not dealing with professionals. It looked like hand drawn, patch on, splattered paint and pure fabrications about Giuliani. What a mess! ITN must have done it herself.
Glenn @ 4:16, you did a good job covering our darling demidumpster. Now you are definitely on her nasty-name list which includes just about everybody who posts here.
Ah well, she is like a wind chime made of rusty tin cans, nuisance noise made from old trash.

Maybe Suleiman will take off his uniform like Musharaff did and get “elected” president.
You mentioned that the MidEast Conference in Annapolis had eased tension and opened the doors a bit between Washington and Damascus. Bush knows what he is doing. Easing MidEast tensions and clearing the way for solutions. Yes, indeed. BUSH DID IT!!

So Iran hasn’t signed off on General Suleiman? And there are people who ridicule the idea that Iran wants proxy control over a fractious Iraq with a weak government?
He’s neutral? Let’s see how neutral a General is next time Syria sends in some hit squads.
BTW - did he happen to use a Neil Diamond song for his campaign?

Dusty,
Thanks, as ever. This foul-up is more than maybe meets the eye. ITN states clearly that someone in authority issued a corrective, as a consequence of which ITN republished the libel. That bit of incompetent liberal fellow-traveling puts the paper in the paper in cognizant control of unprotected violations of free speech.
A bit more than a teapot tempest, I’m afraid, and a full-force gale should someone want to blow on it a little. Which raises the question, what does one do when one’s hometown newspaper is so willfully partial and tendentious as knowingly to break the law?
Well, what do you think, Marshal? Should we let it pass, or stand and fight?

ITN @ 5:02,
It cannot be that anyone in these parts other than you takes as remarkable that blog should announce breathlessly the discovery that politicians tend to get twisted tighter and tighter on the inside until they implode. For that reason, several of us don’t care how viciously you or anyone else knock elected officials, whether Rudy Giuliani or the somewhat incredible Kwanza Hall of Fame.
In fact we rather enjoy it, in ourselves and in others, as long as it’s kept within the exceedingly broad bounds of constitutional conduct, the breach of which the Republicans in these blogs take very seriously indeed, even if you and our host newspaper do not.

Before I read the link I was trying to think of a diplomatic way for a general to say “moron.” Then I had to get out of my chair and bang my head on the wall.
Had a discussion, with AmVet, yesterday, I believe - who referenced an interview with then-candidate Bush who was criticized for not knowing the leaders of Taiwan, couple other countries. I pointed out that reporters are often grossly ill-informed in the areas they cover and have no background against which to test that which they hear. As a result, we get news stories that are terribly misleading.
Remember what Rumsfeld said about “knowing what you don’t know?” That reporter doesn’t even have that level of self awareness.

Good news for America, bad news for Code Pinko:

It’s too bad that our economy won’t crap out the way you coward liberals are hoping and, er, uh, wishing.
And if that wasn’t enough:
{{{{For the first time in a long time, nearly half of Americans express positive opinions about the situation in Iraq. A growing number says the U.S. war effort is going well, while greater percentages also believe the United States is making progress in reducing the number of Iraqi casualties, defeating the insurgents and preventing a civil war in Iraq.}}}}
