This carefully ignores the latest US satellite figures showing (((((temperatures having fallen since 1998, declining in 2007 to a 1983 level))))) - not to mention the newly revised figures for US surface temperatures showing that the 1930s had four of the 10 warmest years of the past century, with the hottest year of all being not 1998, as was previously claimed, but 1934.}}}}

{{{{Given that it is the left and the institutions it dominates — universities, media (other than talk radio in America) and unions — that hate America, two questions remain: Why does the left hate America, and does the American left, too, hate America?}}}}

{{{{The answer to the first question is that America and especially the most hated parts of America — conservatives, religious conservatives in particular — are the greatest obstacles to leftist dominance. American success refutes the socialist ideals of the left; American use of force to vanquish evil refutes the left’s pacifist tendencies; America is the last great country that believes in putting some murderers to death, something that is anathema to the left; when America is governed by conservatives, it uses the language of good and evil, language regarded by the left as “Manichean”; most Americans still believe in the Judeo-Christian value system, another target of the left because the left regards all religions as equally valid (or more to the point, equally foolish and dangerous) and regards God-based morality as the moral equivalent of alchemy.}}}}

{{{{Many millions of people would rather live in America than in any other country. How does the left explain this? Why would people want to come to a country they loathe?}}}}

Many complain when the Administration doesn’t impose it’s political “solutions” on the Iraqi gov’t. Now, with the peace talks, the Administration doesn’t seek to impose an American solution. And the same people complain (after complaining about the past - that’s required).

“Bush won’t offer new proposals” - Possibly this is one reason so many “agreements” have come to naught - they were presented, brokered and announced by the Americans. Now the Americans (read: Administration) did what many thought impossible - they brought together even the Palestinians, Syrians and Saudis. Now they (all caps) have a chance to enact a peace process for their (all caps) region. With their own (all caps) proposals that they will own.

A “Declaration of Principles” from George Bush?

by BarbinMD

Tue Nov 27, 2007 at 06:07:33 AM PST

Yesterday it was announced that George Bush has unilaterally decided that the United States will have what appears to be a permanent presence in Iraq.

As explained by General Douglas Lute, Assistant to the President for Iraq and Afghanistan:

Today’s declaration outlines the main parts of what we expect that emerging agreement to contain. There should be a political-diplomatic segment, there will be a segment dealing with economic affairs, and then a security segment.

Today’s agreement is not binding, but rather it’s a mutual statement of intent that will be used to frame our formal negotiations in the course of the upcoming year.

Do you remember what George Bush said when he announced his temporary “surge” of troops?

The most urgent priority for success in Iraq is security…

To empower local leaders, Iraqis plan to hold provincial elections later this year. And to allow more Iraqis to re-enter their nation’s political life, the government will reform de-Baathification laws, and establish a fair process for considering amendments to Iraq’s constitution. […]

To show that it is committed to delivering a better life, the Iraqi government will spend $10 billion of its own money on reconstruction and infrastructure projects that will create new jobs. […]

We will use America’s full diplomatic resources to rally support for Iraq from nations throughout the Middle East.

Bush started with security, political, economic and diplomatic goals, and now he has security, political, economic and diplomatic goals. The only difference? In January our commitment was, “not open-ended,” and in November the long-term agreement, “is not binding.” How’s that for progress?

Bosch,

Pakistan has little to no involvement in the the middle east situation being addressed in Annapolis other than housing a bunch of Jew haters. In that case you would have to say people like RE need to be at the conference too. So it doesn’t advance the cause to have them there. (caveat: I’m only taking your word they aren’t there)

One of goals of this conference is to isolate Iran so having them there as a party to the talks doesn’t make much sense either.

If it was more just photo-op I don’t think that many countries - particularly some hardline ones - would attend. Nor would Pres Bush excuse himself so early.

Where’s Pakistan? They may not be seen as a player - never took part in wars against Israel, more concerned with their border disputes with India. And Iran? Here (no surprise from a regime that wants to obliterate Israel - at least it gets more difficult for Iranian apologists):

“The so-called conference… is of no benefit to the Palestinian people and has the aim of supporting the occupying Zionists,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a speech Sunday, quoted by the official IRNA news agency.

“Participation in this conference is a sign of a lack of political intelligence. History will not look positively on the name of those who participate in this conference and help the Zionist regime,” he said.

Ahmadinejad also held talks on the telephone with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, another Iranian news agency reported.

ISNA said the two presidents “agreed that only the true representatives of the Palestinian people can take decisions on the future of the Palestinians and that conferences such as Annapolis are doomed to failure.”

It appears I was wrong about Pakistan’s attendance at the conference, there is a representative there - my bad, sorry ‘bout that. There apparently ARE alot of players at the table.

I just wonder what their true agenda is: Israel/Palestinian peace, Iranian isolation, Arab support for the war?

I don’t really have too many thoughts to be honest, if they are there for true peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine that’s one thing and I wish them the best, but if their intentions are to isolate Iran and drum up continued support for war, it seems a little counterintuitive.

Just 2 quick thoughts on that. First I have applied for the “Pray For Rain” copyright. If Greece wishes to use that phrase they will have to pay to use it.

Next, they have to use a lot of caution. Our “Pray For Rain” program here in Georgia was responsible for 8 deaths last week. As we found out over the Thanksgiving weekend, the rain will result in more traffic accidents. Georgia was predicting 18 holiday traffic deaths but ended up with 26. {{{{In the first place, despite the ups and downs of the business cycle, the United States still possesses the most potent economy on earth. Recently the World Economic Forum and the International Institute for Management Development produced global competitiveness indexes, and once again they both ranked the United States first in the world.}}}}

{{{{In the World Economic Forum survey, the U.S. comes in just ahead of Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Germany (China is 34th). The U.S. gets poor marks for macroeconomic stability (the long-term federal debt), for its tax structure and for the low savings rate. But it leads the world in a range of categories: higher education and training, labor market flexibility, the ability to attract global talent, the availability of venture capital, the quality of corporate management and the capacity to innovate.}}}}

Moreover, some voices have been raised calling for the boycott of the gathering because it is viewed as a useless event designed only to extract concessions from the Palestinian side.

On the other hand, there are hopeful signs that the Bush administration might achieve some success at Annapolis and in 2008 before it exits in January 2009. The signs include:

Be sure to read the signs — they’re things that have happened in the recent past but have probably been overshadowed by more important things like Bush’s youthful indiscretions.

There’s an excellent article at Stratfor regarding the meeting in Annapolis. The way I see it is never before has the ME conflict reached such a point that ALL of those countries in the area are tired and at risk within their own borders. Great motivation to do something besides what’s been done in the past.

The extremists are being isolated one by one. Whether you want to believe it or not Al Qaeda was the first to go.

Could this have been done earlier? Probably, but the chances of success are even greater under the present circumstances.

Timing is everything.

Hello!

“Obama admitted inhaling and playing in the snow.”

Yes he did. Pres Bush avoided it, but I don’t fault him for that. Many people in recovery don’t discuss past addictions. I mean, he wouldn’t even drink wine at social events. That’s gotta be a clue. So I don’t think it was deception, at all. I also think there’s a great tendency to hit personal issues - both sides do it, now it’s “how many times married, what are your kids doing and where do you go to cyurch” - instead of things that matter, and the times are different. So I think Obama’s smart to hit it head-on. Especially given the rumblings from Hillary’s camp with her dirt-gatherer folks.

In a special Thanksgiving radio address broadcast from the White House, President George W. Bush asked his fellow Americans to join him in giving thanks for the following things:

“My fellow Americans, let’s be thankful for global warming, because as these winter months approach, it makes the world such a nice, toasty place.

“Let’s be thankful for all of the food on our tables, unless some of it is from China.

“Let’s be thankful that Pakistan will have free and fair elections, and maybe someday we will, too.

“Let’s be thankful for the iPhone, except for those losers who actually paid full price for it.

“Let’s be grateful that I didn’t take out a subprime mortgage on the White House like Mr. Cheney told me to.

“Let’s be thankful that nuclear weapons haven’t fallen into the hands of the wrong people, like Nancy Pelosi or Rosie O’Donnell.

“Let’s be thankful that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s writers are on strike, and hopefully will stay that way for the rest of my term in office.

“Let’s be thankful that even though my approval numbers are falling, they’re still higher than my grades at Yale.

“Let’s be thankful for Guitar Hero III, which really helps you get through those long Cabinet meetings when they’re going on and on about the economy.

“Let’s be thankful that our military commanders have nothing bad to say about the war in Iraq until after they’re retired.

“Let’s be thankful that in nine months it will be August, and then I can go on summer vacation again.

“And finally, my fellow Americans, let’s be thankful that even though Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize, I’m still a lock for the Nobel War Prize.”

I’ve always wondered the reasoning by which people went apoplectic over publicly discussing a person who worked at the CIA (even if she was covert, I’ll accept it for now - just strengthens my point) BUT justify to the nth degree the same journalists, officials or new outlets who reveal the existence of a covert, highly classified program.

And it ain’t ‘cause the person’s life is in danger, LOL!

Kerik was indicted earlier this month on 16 felony counts including fraud, tax evasion and making false statements when applying for Homeland Security secretary. President Bush nominated Kerik on Giuliani’s advice, only to withdraw the nomination a week later when Kerik’s troubles began to come to light. Kerik could face up to 142 years in prison if convicted of the charges.

A man wearing a Giuliani mask has shown up to several Giuliani events in the state holding a sign that reads, “Free Bernie.” Today, he held a “Best Friends Forever” sign and stood next to a man in an improvised mask that resembled Kerik’s face.”

Heh, so “man made” “greenhouse gases” are having no effect on surface warming, just like I said.

{{{{“The warming trend in global-mean surface temperature observations during the past 20 years is undoubtedly real and is substantially greater than the average rate of warming during the twentieth century. I hate to say that I have become somewhat hardened when I see liberal politicians and reporters on television. But I see no reasoning to so many of their actions and words. They seem to have only two standards to guide them.

The first is the ever obnoxious “No matter what, if it makes Bush look bad, use it.”

The second is “No matter what, if it supports a liberal, use it.”

I would love to think that all Americans are speaking for the benefit of our country. But the constant indication of quite the opposite cannot be ignored.

Liberals want us to lose the war, incriminate our leaders and reinvent terrorism into a gentle purr. It simply does not ring true for me.

Yesterday, Paul and I laughed a bit about the element of “experience” in regards to the qualifications for President.

I’ll speak for no one else, but to me, though it is still a viable factor, it is misapplied and over rated as evidenced by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, et al…

Bush’s track record especially, prior to 2000 was very spotty and had some egregious “holes in the fossil record”. But as we all now know, it was indeed a harbinger of things to come.

But it did not matter one iota to those who refused to see it.

And his amazing lack of relevant knowledge and intellectual curiosity was also completely ignored by the neo-cons, who seemingly placed very little value on those characteristics.

But even harder to pin down is character, or in his case, lack thereof.

Somewhere along the way, the spinmeisters decided it was of uber importance to portray the candidate as almost saint-like. Be sure he is shown attending church services and working soup kitchens (even if it was only for three minutes).

And pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, making crooked deals and intentionally misleading the nation to get his way and his boys taken care of.

Wake up! The only thing that matters is RESULTS.

And those are almost always related to basic competence and hard work no matter the endeavor.

This President’s RESULTS stand on their own merits, and that is why the GOP faithful, which helped create those RESULTS, are in such deep doo doo.

Giuliani, the Republican presidential front-runner, last month pledged to “get rid of” so-called earmarks, which cost taxpayers about $13 billion this year, saying his party should promote “fiscal discipline.” Just weeks later, Bracewell & Giuliani LLP won $3 million worth of projects for its clients in defense-spending legislation. […]

In all, Bracewell & Giuliani sought federal earmarks for 14 companies this year, 11 of which hired the firm after Giuliani joined in March 2005, Senate records show. Giuliani, 63, isn’t registered as a lobbyist. The firm paid him $1.2 million last year, according to his personal financial-disclosure form.

The defense-spending legislation approved this month by Congress contained funding for three of those clients, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a Washington-based advocacy group that opposes special projects that lawmakers insert in spending bills without public debate.

Republican consultant Eddie Mahe responded, “It’s a bit hypocritical. He profits from it. I don’t think Joe Sixpack is going to buy into that.”

For Giuliani to run on anti-earmark platform after (successfully) fighting for clients’ earmarks in private practice requires even more cognitive dissonance than most of the former mayor’s contradictions.}}}}

Damn, I think Republicans can just sit back and watch on this one…

The Clinton-Obama camps got into a new war of words Monday over reports that Obama’s political action committee may have directed a majority of its campaign contributions to politicians in the key early nominating states.

(((“On the campaign trail, Senator Obama is outspoken about his desire to reform the campaign finance system so it was surprising to learn that he has been using his PAC in a manner that appears to be inconsistent with the prevailing election laws,” Clinton’s campaign said in a statement.)))

(((Obama’s campaign then took aim at Clinton’s reluctance to release financial, fundraising and White House records in full.)))

(((“The latest personal attack from Hillary Clinton is a completely false attempt to misrepresent Barack Obama’s full disclosure of his campaign finances,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement, adding that Clinton is in no position to point fingers until she discloses her own White House records.)))

Won’t need to be uncovering the dirt. The dems are throwing it in their own playpen and they’re using shovels too.

Hey John! Welcome back!

Glad you enjoyed Amsterdam! It is truly like no place on earth! Some of the more constipated wing nuts here need to spend a few months there and lighten up (or light up as the case may be!).

Flying dildos???

As you can see, the more things change the more they stay the same here in this little insane asylum.

The tidy righties seem to have regained a minor second wind and are a tad more emboldened lately. I believe it is because there have been no major blunders by the White House, in what? A couple of weeks?

But with the upcoming GOP You Tube debate, there is SURE to be lots more comedic material after tomorrow.

So watching these lucidity challenged neo-rats and assorted climatological experts here scurry around from justification to spin to cover up to lie is mild amusement for the rest of us.

And 2008 hasn’t even started yet!

Again, John, welcome back to the fray and give it to ‘em with both barrels.

“his amazing lack of relevant knowledge and intellectual curiosity ” (re. Pres Bush)

If I may offer an alternate viewpoint - I know that statement has received wide play over the years. When he would go to Camp David for some rest and recreation and reporters would ask “how’s he going to relax?” and the Press Sec would respond with some books, the result was generally “yeah, right” smirks.

I was reading a piece about changes in thought about conducting insurgency operations - military and diplomatic. The writer noted, somewhat in passing, that Pres Bush had just finished reading Alistair Horne’s “A Savage War of Peace: Algeria 1954-1962” - all 604 pages of it and was wont to refer to the ideas in discussions.

My impression is more he’s a “hands-off” delegator. Okay style depending upon the type of organization, but as the Chief Executive, with some underlings who were quite ideological with their own agendas, I think a more engaging style would have been called for.

Paul, this was the interview where I first realized, perhaps unfairly, that W was going to get in WAY over his head and was clearly NOT the right man for the job. Was I prescient or did I just luck out?

Either way it doesn’t matter other than that the nation has had to endure arguably the worst foreign policy debacles since Viet Nam.

November 5, 1999

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Texas Gov. George W. Bush is enduring sharp criticism for being unable to name the leaders of four current world hot spots, but President Bill Clinton says Bush “should, and probably will, pick up” those names.

The front-runner for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination faltered Thursday in an international affairs pop quiz posed by Andy Hiller, a political reporter for WHDH-TV in Boston.

Hiller asked Bush to name the leaders of Chechnya, Taiwan, India and Pakistan. Bush was only able to give a partial response to the query on the leader of Taiwan, referring to Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui simply as “Lee.” He could not name the others.

“Can you name the general who is in charge of Pakistan?” Hiller asked, inquiring about Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf, who seized control of the country October 12.

“Wait, wait, is this 50 questions?” asked Bush.

Hiller replied: “No, it’s four questions of four leaders in four hot spots.”

Hey Paul, as I said it was just a very strong feeling I got watching that interview that a Bush administration was going to be a train wreck. I wish beyond wish I had been wrong, but can you tell me I was?

My assertion has always been the same - GWB is a pretty smart guy. UNLESS you compare him, on average, to all of his predecessors. Then I believe he drags the score down. A gentleman’s C at Yale or not.

His ability to select advisors is just one of the many areas where he showed IMHO terrible judgment. And then deferring to these yes men shows he again is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

But again IMHO it is only the RESULTS that matter and to the extent that intellect is a predictor of them, then it is useful.

Your second point is totally irrelevant.

Who cares one iota if ANY reporter knows the answers to those questions or not?

It is not their job. It IS the job of the leader of the free world.

Possibly that’s why Pres Bush is engaged in reading such tomes now? One can only hope.

Possibly you thought the second point irrelevant in context of the candidates. My point was, many reporters who are assigned to such beats seem to possess very little background in the histories, regions, peoples, culture, etc of their assigned areas. They can be quick to criticize actions of government officials, but they themselves lack any background against which to test their assertions. Rather like assigning a reporter to Venezuela who’d never heard of it until Chavez entered the picture. Whose stories regularly refer to American injustice in the region.

Mr. Giuliani is now a private citizen, free to sue your arse off, and the AJC’s, and prevail. You’d better hope he gets the nomination so he won’t have time to clean up his reputation in court.

He’s a prosecutor, after all.

Idiot.

Look at our resident “millionaire” who has no clue whatsoever of the dealings of big business, just whiney little kook slogans to throw around like some wannabe Pat Buchanan:

{{{{By N-GA November 27, 2007 4:52 PM So Abu Dhabi invests $7.5 Billion in Citigroup. They have to do something with all those petrodollars before they become worthless. Citigroup is committed to paying more than 11% dividend on those funds (convertible to common shares) when they pay only 7.3% on their standard dividend.}}}}

I can just imagine what these liberals are thinking in their empty heads, the Arabs pulling the Citigroup Headquarters out of the ground and taking it home with them, I’m sure.

Dhabi made a shrewd investment in what they saw as a solid growth company, the 11% only gets returned from future profits, duh.

If Citi doesn’t make money, neither do the Arabs.

And check this out, Citi is a subprime “risk,” clearer heads must not see this as such a big problem.

In fact, they see potential in us.

Which is marvelous, look at what the DOW did in reaction to the good news.

Say, NG-A, how did you make that “million?”

They’ve accused me of being Dusty, Buy Danish, Luckoduh, RW and one of them even thought I was Paul.

Unfreakin’ believable. <—— A Buy Danish signature sign-off.

Some leftist came in here earlier posting as Betty just oozing with sarcasm. They mistook him/her for a conservative. Either that or someone was talking to themselves.

Oh yes, @@, that was it, “I tried to slip past ya”. Nuts.

When I found this place about 18 months ago, I discovered it was fouled by Andy. And I am not exaggerating when I say every other word of his was an invective or vulgar swear word and the place was an absolute insane asylum.

I liked this newly discovered blogging and decided I’d give this place a go. But I simply wasn’t going to tolerate this one particularly loathsome hatemonger ruining this blog. I soon took up a mission to clean up my local paper’s blog and said so. @@, the first Great Defender of Andy said, “Who are you? We’ve been here longer. If you don’t like it STFU or go someplace else.”

I repeatedly declined.

And after some time the people here joined in, fought fire with fire and we did the Harry Truman on Curly. There were consequences, some of them unforeseen. After the mushroom cloud settled, he eventually blew a fuse BIG time, was a VERY naughty boy and ended up banned for some long period of time.

His ardent supporters to this day deny any knowledge of this sad episode.

I had already voluntarily left as I could see the writing on the wall and when I returned five months later, I learned of his absence and emasculation. That was earlier this year (March or April?) and when I returned as AmVet, I vowed to never post under another name. And never have.

And my presence here truly torques the four or five who are daily obsessed with me and my opinions. And the very large impact I had on their beloved leader.

Meanwhile Andy returned sometime thereafter and before you stands/writes the kinder, gentler “compassionate conservative” Luckoduh. Without the endless vitriol, hate speech and venom that was his thing.

A tiny few and especially @@ hated that the despised foes had won this war and have been seething ever since. She pretends to be a nice girl but… And the others never even made the pretense.

I have enjoyed everyday back, and look forward to more debate with out the filth.

Those are the facts ma’am, just the facts

Betty was Tiny Tim, who goes by many names, like one of the demons that the late Father Malachi Martin (on whom Blatty based “Exorcist”) chatted with before destroying. He’s a demonic changeling.

Is the psychophenom you’re talking about related to transference, because that’s what set off his weird spell of thinking that duh and I were one, like two-faced Janus of mythology. (He should put that one in Jung’s pipe and smoke it instead.)

Blowhard,

That 7:04 is completely delusional and I dare say you can’t prove a word of it. They do have archives here you know.

It is hysterical to watch you blame all your and your “buddies” bad behavior on Andy though.

You’re a typical liberal punk that wants to shout down everybody else’s opinion but your own and you justify it by saying the person you shouted down was a “hate speaker.”

We, on the right, always have debated leftist opinion here and countered it with our own. If you can’t stand to debate anyone that doesn’t share your narrow world view, why are you here except to attempt to silence others?

Ain’t gonna happen bro.

If he truly desired to show this “sad episode” to whoever it is that he is trying to impress on this silly little political blog, you’d think he’d go to the archives and produce maybe one of my posts full of “endless vitriol, hate speech and venom that was his thing.”

Funny how he can’t do it.
