Giuliani is a small-minded, mean, petty punk. In a national election he would get crushed by Obama or Clinton. People have forgotten what a vicious little weasel this guy is, but the rigors of campaigning for President would reveal his character. This is scary:
(((An in-depth survey of more than 2,000 people offers a window into the thinking of Americans as they look far beyond electability in making their choices for president — grappling with matters of personality, policy and religion in sorting through the candidates.)))
(((Overall, the poll finds, DEMOCRATS are ——->weighing personal traits more heavily than policy positions<——- this election season; REPUBLICANS are putting greater emphasis on policy.)))

Yeah, like we should trust the U.N.’s data for Global Warming too.
{{{{JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 19 — The United Nations’ top AIDS scientists plan to acknowledge this week that they have long overestimated both the size and the course of the epidemic, which they now believe has been slowing for nearly a decade, according to U.N. documents prepared for the announcement.}}
What a shocker!:
“There was a tendency toward alarmism, and that fit perhaps a certain fundraising agenda,” said Helen Epstein, author of “The Invisible Cure: Africa, the West, and the Fight Against AIDS.” “I hope these new numbers will help refocus the response in a more pragmatic way.”}}}
How did they measure the epidemic?:
Among the reasons for the overestimate is methodology; U.N. officials traditionally>>>>>>> based their national HIV estimates on infection rates among pregnant women receiving prenatal care. As a group, such women were younger, more urban, wealthier and likely to be more sexually active than populations as a whole, according to recent studies<<<<<<.
There couldn’t be another agenda at work there now could there?^^^Seriously, is this how they measure infection rates in NYC or San Franciso, for instance?
{{{Piot often wrote personal prefaces to those reports warning of the dangers of inaction, saying in 2006 that “the pandemic and its toll are outstripping the worst predictions.” But by then, several years’ worth of newer, more accurate studies already offered substantial evidence that the agency’s tools for measuring and predicting the course of the epidemic were flawed.}}}
No kidding!

Let’s face it — money and the MSM are going to elect Hillary as the Democrats’ nominee.
(((“Her negatives should be an area of concern among Democrats,” he said.)))
(((Though Clinton has a big lead in Florida over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination, she also has higher negative ratings than any other candidate in the presidential race — with 45 percent holding an unfavorable view of her compared with 38 percent favorable, the survey showed.)))
(((She fares particularly poorly among male voters. Sixty-two percent of men said they would not support the New York senator, who in a recent speech denounced the “all-boys’ club of presidential politics.”)))
Now granted, women like her. I had a friend tell me recently that she was gonna vote for Hillary. “Why” I asked. Her response? very “SIMPLY” put….”Because she’s a woman.”
Duhhhhhhh…
(((If Giuliani fails to win the Republican nomination, the survey showed the race more of a tossup, within the poll’s margin of error, with Clinton narrowly trailing Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney.)))
(((Thompson would defeat Clinton 48 percent to 44 percent, while Romney edges Clinton 46 percent to 45 percent, according to the survey.)))
(((The poll showed that the Democrats’ decision to duck Florida could shadow the eventual nominee next year.)))
(((Statewide, 26 percent of independent voters and 33 percent of undecided voters said they would be less likely to support a candidate who didn’t campaign in Florida in advance of the primary.)))
(((Told that only Democrats were avoiding the state, 27 percent of independents and 25 percent of undecideds said they would be less likely to vote for the Democratic nominee.)))
(((“This poll codified what we already knew: Hillary Clinton is out of touch with mainstream Florida, and voters are angry at the Democratic candidates for boycotting Florida and using the state as their own personal ATM machines,” said Jim Greer, Florida Republican Party chairman.)))
I know that’s a “redo” but we are talking Florida.

Setting the scene:
The entrenched political culture that Giuliani faced when he became mayor was the pure embodiment of American liberalism, stretching back to the New Deal, whose public works projects had turned Gotham into a massive government-jobs program. Even during the post–World War II economic boom, New York politicians kept the New Deal’s big-government philosophy alive, with huge municipal tax increases that financed a growing public sector but drove away private-sector jobs. Later, in the mid-1960s, flamboyant mayor John Lindsay set out to make New York a poster child for the Johnson administration’s War on Poverty, vastly expanding welfare rolls, giving power over the school system to black-power activists, and directing hundreds of millions of government dollars into useless and often fraudulent community-based antipoverty programs. To pay for all this, Lindsay taxed with abandon. The result: sharply increasing crime, a rising underclass inclined to languish on welfare rather than strive to uplift itself, a failing school system that emphasized racial grievance and separateness, and near-bankruptcy.

The mind of a liberal:
{{When Giuliani’s predecessor, David Dinkins, came into office—thanks to voters’ hopes that as the city’s first black mayor, he’d defuse Gotham’s intense racial tensions—he wholly embraced the War on Poverty’s core belief that the problems of the urban poor sprang from vast external forces over which neither they nor the politicians had much control. Under Dinkins, the city’s welfare rolls grew by one-third, or some 273,000 people. By 1992, with some 1.1 million New Yorkers on welfare, the city’s political leadership seemed stuck on dependency, too. Dinkins became the chief proponent of a tin-cup urbanism, constantly hounding Washington and Albany with demands and grim warnings about what would happen if they were not met.}}
Dinkins’s political philosophy substituted can’t-do fatalism for the can-do optimism that had made New York great. As crime spiked—there were 2,262 murders in Dinkins’s first year, compared with fewer than 600 in 1963, two years before Lindsay became mayor—Dinkins declared: “If we had a police officer on every other corner, we couldn’t stop some of the random violence that goes on,” since it resulted from poverty and racism, not poor policing.

When coming up with an agenda and choosing priorities in a crime infested, welfare dependent city that is rapidly going down the tubes, what does Dinkins do?:
As crime and welfare rocketed up, Dinkins decided that government should promote diversity and multiculturalism—“a gorgeous mosaic,” in his phrase. Though the performance of the city’s schools was crumbling, so that by 1992 fewer than half the pupils were reading at grade level, the board of education turned its energies to two controversies unrelated to education: it tried to adopt a “Rainbow Curriculum” geared to instilling in first-graders respect for homosexuality, and it proposed to distribute free condoms in high schools to promote safe sex among students. Although many parents objected that the board was promoting values that they did not share, Dinkins supported the board on both fiercely controversial issues.

The core philosophy of Rudy Giuliani:
By the time Giuliani challenged Dinkins for a second time, in 1993 (his first try had failed), the former prosecutor had fashioned a philosophy of local government based on two core conservative principles vastly at odds with New York’s political culture: that government should be accountable for delivering basic services well, and that ordinary citizens should be personally responsible for their actions and their destiny and not expect government to take care of them. Giuliani preached the need to reestablish a “civil society,” where citizens adhered to a “social contract.” “If you have a right,” he observed, “there is a duty that goes along with that right.” Later, when he became mayor, Giuliani would preach about the duties of citizenship, quoting the ancient Athenian Oath of Fealty: “We will revere and obey the city’s laws… . We will strive unceasingly to quicken the public sense of civic duty. Thus in all these ways we will transmit this city not only not less, but far greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”
And unlike other politicians who promise but don’t deliver, Rudy did transform NYC.

What’s so “scary” about Rudy Giuliani:
In New York, where generations of liberal policy had produced a city in which one in seven citizens lived off government benefits, in which lawbreakers whose actions diminished everyone else’s quality of life were routinely ignored or excused, in which the rights of those who broke the law were often defended vigorously over the rights of those who adhered to it, Giuliani’s prescriptions for an urban revival based on shared civic values seemed unrealistic to some and dangerous to others. The head of the local American Civil Liberties Union chapter described Giuliani’s ideas on respect for authority and the law as “frightening” and “scary.” But New Yorkers who had watched their city deteriorate were more frightened of life under an outdated and ineffective liberal agenda. Giuliani rode to victory in 1993 with heavy support from the same white ethnic Democratic voters who, nearly a decade earlier, had crossed party lines even in liberal New York to vote for Ronald Reagan.

We’ve been over this before. The Chief Executive does not comment on pending or inprocess criminal cases as he has the power to pardon. Premature comments will taint the process and could lead to nonprosecution - Nixon learned that. So those with a good chance of winning the office - on a case that would be current when they took office - are being prudent by not commenting.
But if your only objective is to try to make Rudy look half as evasive as Hillary, well, I suppose you’ll continue recycling the links.
Says something, too, about the intellectual capacity of those writing those articles -

N.H. — A former national Republican Party official is trying to avoid a second trial on charges stemming from a phone-jamming plot against New Hampshire Democrats. James Tobin of Bangor, Maine, was convicted in 2005 of helping to arrange more than 800 hang-up calls that jammed get-out- the-vote phone lines set up by the state Democratic Party and the Manchester firefighters’ union for about an hour on Election Day 2002. … This March, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston ruled that the harassment statute under which Tobin was convicted was not a close fit. … The case now turns on that question — whether Tobin’s intention was to harass — as his lawyers return to U.S. District Court in Concord to seek acquittal for him. … Tobin was a regional official for the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He oversaw Senate campaigns in New Hampshire, Maine and other states, when the phone jamming happened.

I wonder if “I was there” was a squeegee man.
As mayor, he instituted a “zero tolerance” approach that cracked down on quality-of-life offenses like panhandling and public urination (in a city where some streets reeked of urine), in order to restore a sense of civic order that he believed would discourage larger crimes. “Murder and graffiti are two vastly different crimes,” he explained. “But they are part of the same continuum, and a climate that tolerates one is more likely to tolerate the other.” He linked the Dinkins era’s permissive climate, which tolerated the squeegee men (street-corner windshield cleaners who coerced drivers into giving them money at the entrances to Manhattan), to the rise of more serious crime. “The police started ignoring all kinds of offenses,” Giuliani later recounted of the Dinkins years. They “became,” he deadpanned, “highly skilled observers of crime.”
The Chicken Little Liberals predictions proved wrong once again:
{{{Civil rights advocates warned that Giuliani’s promise to deprive the squeegee men of their $40–100 weekly shakedown might drive them to more violent crime; in effect, they endorsed a lesser form of criminality, hoping that it would forestall more serious crime. The city’s newspapers were happy to print threats from squeegee men, like this one: “I feel like if I can’t hustle honestly, I’ve got to go back to doing what I used to do … robbing and stealing.” But the squeegee-men campaign provided Giuliani with his first significant victory, showing a beleaguered citizenry that government actually could bring about change for the better. Paul,
I don’t think Rudy’s position on social issues scares Democrats as it does Republicans. Rudy’s nomination will most likely split the party (if it hasn’t happened already).
Whose raising more money? That’s the key with whose going to win.
Democrats and most Independents know the Rudy is just another Bush clone in terms of foreign policy and the war. That’s why approval ratings are so low for everyone - Congress included. Rudy’s nomination will be a Democrats dream.
I personally think he took the Bush position in the early stages of the war because he thought it would win him votes, and now it’s too late to flip.

Mad Zell— and Pat Robertson certainly knows about dictators, yes? Not only is he backing the Rudy-dictator this primary, he has also had a full-blown love affair with the dictator of Liberia:
(CBS) Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson accused President Bush of “undermining a Christian, Baptist president to bring in Muslim rebels” by asking Liberian President Charles Taylor, recently indicted for war crimes, to step down.
I think if Robertson had a stake in Venezuela’s oil, he would also be in love with Hugo Chavez, too…

How Rudy brought down the crime rate:
Giuliani changed the primary mission of the police department to preventing crime from happening rather than merely responding to it once it had occurred. His police chief, William Bratton, reorganized the NYPD, emphasizing a street-crimes unit that moved around the city, flooding high-crime areas and getting guns off the street. Bratton also changed the department’s scheduling. Crime was open for business 24 hours a day, but most detectives, including narcotics cops, had previously gone off duty at 5 pm, just as criminals were coming on duty. No more.
That ^^^is a perfect illustration of how a liberal bureaucracy functions.
Let’s examine the results of the Rudy Revolution:
{{{The policing innovations led to a historic drop in crime far beyond what anyone could have imagined, with total crime down by some 64 percent during the Giuliani years, and murder (the most reliable crime statistic) down 67 percent, from 1,960 in Dinkins’s last year to 640 in Giuliani’s last year. The number of cars stolen in New York City every year plummeted by an astounding 78,000.}}}

Meet the naysayers. Bwak bwak bwak bwak bwak bwak:
Criminologists tried to dismiss this achievement by arguing that the police have little influence on crime. The crime drop, they contended, was merely the fruit of an improving national economy, though the decline preceded the city’s economic rebound by several years. Others argued that New York was just riding a demographic trend, as the population of teenagers prone to break the law declined. One criminologist even suggested that Giuliani’s New York would soon see another upsurge, as a new cohort of children reached the teen years. “I don’t need a crystal ball,” the criminologist confidently predicted. Instead, crime declined relentlessly over Giuliani’s eight years, even when it rose nationally.
{{{Critics, especially those on the left, have tried to minimize Giuliani’s accomplishment by claiming that he lowered crime by letting cops oppress black and Latino New Yorkers with brute force. As evidence, they point to unfortunate incidents such as the shootings of unarmed black immigrants Amadou Diallo and Patrick Dorismond. But the data tell a far different story: Giuliani’s NYPD managed to drive down crime while showing admirable restraint. From 1995 to 2000, civilian complaints of excessive force by the NYPD declined from one complaint per ten officers to one per 19 officers. Meanwhile, shootings by cops declined by 50 percent and were far lower under Giuliani than under Dinkins—lower in fact than in cities like San Diego and Houston, hailed for practicing community policing.}}}

That was more a smiley comment about the personalities of the two.
I saw that for Iowa. I meant more nationally. I saw another poll (I think it’s the CBS News) that said something along the order of less than half think Hillary says what she thinks and most thinks she says what she thinks the audience wants to hear. Obama - over 80 percent think his says what he thinks and few think he changes his tune based upon the audience.
But most think Hillary’s more likely to win the general election. That’s a shame - as far as a reason to vote for someone. Realistic, maybe - but philosophically? I mentioned to one person about a past vote I cast for Pres. His response was “why waste your vote?” I replied it’s about voting your convictions.
Bosch
Yeah money speaks. I’ll sound like a worn-out jabberer by saying… full Federal funding.
As far as splitting Reps, I think the social conservatives will either not vote (possible) or pick the lesser of two evils (more likely).
It’d be nice if we could get back to the days of socially moderate/liberal Reps and foreign policy conservative Dems. Although if this election shapes up, we may be on the road to that.
I meant “scare” in the sense Rudy could be a more viable alternative to Hillary for many undecideds/moderate Dems than, say, Romney. Not that undecideds or moderate Dems would have anything other than a policy difference with Romney (sarc). Same goes for conservative Christian Reps.
I’m not sure how this whole ‘war’ thing will play out. I assume you’re referring to Iraq. There could be a sea change in perception of voters over the next six months. Frankly, as far as pursuing the war against jihadists (not counting how it’s handled domestically) I’m not sure there’s a whole big difference between the frontrunners of either party. Hillary and Obama are both going to great pains to appear tough and resolute.

Sure Paul, I can imagine that. Democrats live on dreams. It doesn’t matter to them that promises aren’t fulfilled as long as their candidates offer a long baited line. They’ll bite and hang on for dear life all the while being reeled in to provide a bountiful fish fry for the politicians. They never stop to realize that they’re the fish. Politicians can offer a better tomorrow for them cause their today is always suckin’.
Obama? He really doesn’t have a personality that appeals to me. Not the kinda guy who’s willing to go toe to toe. He lacks fire but he’s good dancer, politically speaking.

Goldie,
I think it’s interesting that Ron Paul is low in the polls, but he is against the war. For some reason, I trust him - he seems genuine - call it a vibe, I wish more candidates could be like him. I certainly do not like his social conservatism, but I respect people who don’t tow the party line (on either side).
I think Rudy does that, and I like that in him. If he would change his stance on the war, I might consider voting for him.
I don’t have a problem with Rudy’s marriage indiscretions either just like I didn’t have a problem with Clinton’s. If they had just admitted it, then who cares? It’s none of mine or anyone else’s business. I think most of us know people who’ve been in the same situations, people who are good people.
I know there are lots of people who don’t hold my same social views, but I respect that. If the conservatives were truly honest in less government, they wouldn’t try to control people’s personal lives, and if that were the case, I’m not so sure that I wouldn’t be a Republican myself. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Germany the other day and he is truly amazed at how we have gay marriage on our ballots - if you really think about it, it’s totally ridiculous.
But I digress. I think whoever wins the Republican nomination is going to have to cave a bit on the war issue - and it seems to me the sooner they start the better so that they don’t seem disingenuous about it.

Meet Giuliani, the fiscal conservative:
{{{Giuliani’s first budget, submitted just weeks after he took office, stunned the city’s political establishment by its fiscal conservatism. To demonstrate his disdain for the reigning orthodoxy, when the New York Times editorial board urged him to solve the budget crisis with tax and fee increases that a Dinkins-era special commission had recommended, Giuliani unceremoniously dumped a copy of the commission’s report into the garbage and derided it as “old thinking.” It was a pointed declaration that a very different set of ideas would guide his administration}}}
A classic Rudy gesture. Bravo!
Rudy takes on Albany and the Unions:
To balance the city’s budget early in his tenure, when tax revenues stagnated amid a struggling economy, the mayor played hardball, winning concessions from city workers that other mayors had failed to get. The city’s police unions had used their power in Albany to resist efforts by ex-mayors Koch and Dinkins to merge the city’s housing police and transit police into the NYPD. Giuliani strong-armed Albany leaders into agreeing to the merger, saving the city hundreds of millions in administrative costs and making the department a better crime-fighting unit, by threatening to fire every housing and transit officer and rehire each as a city cop if legislative leaders did not go along. Similarly, though the city’s garbagemen, many of whom worked only half days because their department was so overstaffed, had rebuffed the Dinkins administration’s push for productivity savings, Giuliani won $300 million in savings from them by threatening to contract out trash collection to private companies. Ultimately, with such deals, Giuliani reduced city-funded spending by 1.6 percent his first year in office, the largest overall reduction in city spending since the Depression.

The 9/11 response:
In the weeks following the attacks, Giuliani became both the cheerleader of New York’s efforts to pick itself up and the voice of moral outrage about the attacks. Giuliani exhorted private institutions within the city—the stock exchanges, the Broadway theaters—to resume operations and urged the rest of America and the world to come visit the city. Not waiting for federal aid, the city rapidly began a cleanup of the World Trade Center site, which proceeded ahead of schedule, and of the devastated neighborhood around the site, which reopened block by block in the weeks after the attacks. Meanwhile, the mayor led visiting heads of state on tours of the devastation, because, he said, “You can’t come here and be neutral.” He addressed the United Nations on the new war against terrorism, warning the delegates: “You’re either with civilization or with terrorists.” When a Saudi prince donated millions to relief efforts but later suggested that United States policy in the Middle East may have been partially responsible for the attacks, Giuliani returned the money, observing that there was “no moral equivalent” for the unprecedented terrorist attack. He attended dozens of funerals of emergency workers killed in the towers’ collapse, leading the city not just in remembrance but in catharsis.
Yes, he went to a Yankees game too. The unity and moving patriotism that brought New Yorkers together that night must have been deeply offensive to libs like Getalife.

getalife, I agree completely that the GOP candidates are all (save Paul) incredibly, almost inexplicably, running on Bush’s unquestionably failed record and the same positions that will almost certainly earn him the distinction of the worst American President in our nation’s history!!!
For me, this is one of the great disappointments so far in this race.
I have contended and will continue to do so, that it is the Republican Party that offers the most hope to this country.
BUT…ONLY IF the new bucks coming up can and will show some courage and vision and repudiate this ridiculous so-called neo-conservative agenda and reinvent themselves as the sane, rational party of Lincoln.
How can this party even expect to retain any power or even basic credibility, when they KNOW that most Americans are both dissatisfied with their abysmal track record and their insistence on continuing to include the same old tired and failed neo-con planks in their platform?!
Because they’re not Democrats?!! That just ain’t getting it anymore.

Finally, more testimony to Rudy’s leadership abilities, qualities we can assuredly rely on to lead this nation:
Moreover, as an expert on policing and America’s key leader on 9/11, Giuliani is an authority on today’s crucial foreign policy issue, the war on terror. In fact, as a federal prosecutor in New York, he investigated and prosecuted major terrorist cases. As mayor, he took the high moral ground in the terrorism debate in 1995, when he had an uninvited Yasser Arafat expelled from city-sponsored celebrations during the United Nations’ 50th anniversary because, in Giuliani’s eyes, Arafat was a terrorist, not a world leader. “When we’re having a party and a celebration, I would rather not have someone who has been implicated in the murders of Americans there, if I have the discretion not to have him there,” Giuliani said at the time.
Contrast and compare with the Clintons who chose to embrace Arafat - both literally and figuratively.

Rudy appeals to young voters too. He’s not so staunchy. Hillary seems kind of matronly don’tcha think?
(((“I like his pragmatic approach,” said the New Jersey native, who was in middle school when Giuliani led New York City during and after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. “Looking at what he did for New York, it seems like his economic approach works practically.”)))
(((Giuliani’s moderate social record may explain why his younger supporters skew female more than those of other Republicans. “I consider myself a conservative, but I do have more moderate leanings, and [Giuliani] embodies some of that,” said Holly Stone, 26, a state employee in Tallahassee, Fla. “Some of the other, more conservative, candidates make abortion too much of an issue.”)))
(((Though Stone says she is personally anti-abortion, she opposes the repeal of Roe v. Wade. And while Stone will likely vote for any Republican nominee, she typifies the post-culture-war attitude of many of her peers in saying that she prefers Giuliani’s emphasis on national security over moral values.)))
(((J.R. Santo, a 19-year-old Dartmouth sophomore from Queens, N.Y., echoed Lim’s sentiments on Giuliani’s mayoral record and social views. “Managing a huge city like New York is a lot like managing a country,” Santo offered.)))
(((He also feels more comfortable with Giuliani’s social views than with those of his primary competitors. “I do think he’s more along the moderate lines, even though he’s trying to appeal to the hard-line conservative vote. I think socially he is a moderate.”)))
(((As for national prospects in the general election, Rasmussen seconds Smith’s analysis of the New Hampshire primary. “Hillary Clinton is the defining force in the general election,” he said. “Against every Republican, Clinton gets between 46 and 49 percent.”)))
(((Giuliani campaign officials have tracked similar levels of support among young voters. “We see [it] in our internal polling as well as public polls,” said strategy director Brent Seaborn. “Some of our biggest rallies are on college campuses. Some of our best field offices are in towns with large universities.”)))
(((And Seaborn also believes that, beyond simple name recognition, many young people have a favorable impression of Giuliani because of his presence and leadership on and after Sept. 11, 2001. “People under 35 reached political maturity at a time when Mayor Giuliani was a leader

Yet more great news and compelling evidence that the Neanderthals here are a dying species, even among their own political brethren.
Here’s a summary of where the GOP candidates are on the issue of man-induced global warming:
John McCain and Rudy Giuliani are clear proponents of the position that global warming is happening and caused by human activity.
Of the second tier candidates, you have Mike Huckabee who is probably to the left of McCain and Giuliani. The former candidate Sam Brownback is also on the side of taking action to address global warming.
As usual, Mitt Romney is straddling the fence of the issue, although his recent position suggests that he will be willing to cooperate with people in the party who are opposed to interventions.
And Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich are on the record as skeptics.
So, the top tier of candidates (Giuliani, McCain, Thompson, and Romney) is split, with Thompson being the only real skeptic. And much of the serious 2nd tier is with or to the left of McCain and Giuliani.
In November and December, the Mellman Group surveyed likely Republican and Democratic voters, 400 of each, for two climate awareness groups: Clear the Air and the New Hampshire-based Clean Air-Cool Planet.
SEVENTY PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS and 94 percent of Democrats called global warming a serious threat.
Ninety-six percent of Democrats and 82 PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS said the United States should take action now to reduce emissions.
As of yesterday, 143 New Hampshire communities had approved language calling on Washington to take action to slow U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide. Eight towns had rejected it and at least 25 have yet to vote.

Right on Luckoduh! Its the hypocrisy. It’s no different than claiming to value the sanctity of human life and then being pro-war and indifferent to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians or even your own soldiers. You either care about life or you don’t. You can’t have it both ways can you Luck?
I’ve heard that the US military has the authority to bomb any site in Iraq or Afghanistan so long as the innocent death toll (collateral damage) is expected to be less than 25 people. If its expected to be more than the President has to make the call.
Which raises an intersting question:
If Osama Bin Laden broke into your house during Thanksgiving dinner while your wife, parents, kids and grandkids were there would you think it would be ok to bomb your house off the face of the earth or would that be murder? Or is it murder only if its your house, but its ok if its Omar’s house in Afghanistan?
Just wondering.

It seems you are right about Ron Paul. I’ve never really understood what a Libertarian is anyway. I guess I consider anyone who is pro-life to be a social conservative, maybe not the best position, but it’s kind of like you say, a knee jerk reaction. His website didn’t say, or at least I didn’t see his stance on gay marriage, but I find that to be a ridiculous “political” issue to begin with. Maybe he does too and that’s why he doesn’t mention it. I know there are alot of other “social” issues than those two, but I don’t have time right now to go into that.
He mentioned alot of other things on his website, that I disagree with, but also, several things I do agree with.
Okay, my break is over. The other Bosch will be in here any minute now!

Dusty,
Glad to be of help! Nothing like a little facts and information to cut through the bwak bwak bwak.
By the way, I also think that Mitt Romney would make a fine President. Either one would be fine with me.
Fred sounds great on paper (with the exception of his support for McCain-Feingold) but has been a disappointing candidate, to say the least.
McCain is the worst of the candidates in my estimation (after Ron Paul whose isolationist policies are very dangerous). Yes, he is a truly heroic and his unwavering support of the Iraq War has been great, but he is a disaster on immigration, didn’t believe in the Bush tax cuts, and of course gave us McCain Feingold - just to name a few serious problems with his record.
I don’t know enough about Huckabee at this time, but I’m getting the sense that he is a real Nanny-Stater, and I know he has bought into the Global Warming fraud.

Here’s some fantastic news about the stem-cell debate:
Two major scientific papers published today in Science and Cell offer proof of principle research to show that it is possible to generate patient-matched pluripotent stem cells without human cloning and its attendant moral pitfalls: the need to harvest and use human eggs from female donors and the subsequent destruction of cloned human embryos. Both studies used reprogramming of adult human cells to generate stem cells known as “induced pluripotent state cells” (iPSCs) that have all the properties of human embryonic stem cells.
{{{In the highly contentious political battle over federal funding for stem-cell research, one cannot help but note that of all the current presidential candidates, only Governor Mitt Romney embraced an unambiguous and principled stance on the alternatives, incorporating them into his proposed domestic policy.
Reprogramming takes normal adult body cells — such as skin cells — and sends each cell’s nucleus back to a pluripotent state. In other words, the reprogrammed cells would then be capable of producing any tissue type in the human body — essentially equivalent in versatility to human embryonic stem cells. The reprogrammed cells would, furthermore, be genetically matched to the person who donated the original body cells. They could then be used to grow tissues for future use in tissue replacement therapies (everything from regeneration of damaged heart tissue to Parkinson’s to spinal-cord injury). A perfect genetic match, these tissues would not be rejected by the donor’s immune system. Most importantly, there would be no embryo created, destroyed, damaged or used in any way at any point in the process.}}}

And, we’re starting it off with a bang! We invited every Presidential candidate, of both parties, to address you on their plans for the military and veterans, if elected President. We’ll be posting a new candidate’s post every hour and fifteen minutes.
Visit VetVoice.com now, and keep coming back throughout the day to read posts from:
9:30am EST - Senator John Edwards
10:45 - Representative Ron Paul
12:00pm - Senator Chris Dodd
1:15 - Senator Hillary Clinton
2:30 - Senator Barack Obama
3:45 - Senator Joe Biden
But, today is by no means the only day you should come back to VetVoice.com! Then, come back every day to hear what troops and veterans are thinking, catch up on current news and analysis, and connect with America’s 21st Century Patriots.
We have put a lot of thought into, and solicited many opinions on how to make this the largest and most vibrant military and veterans issues blog on the web. We hope you enjoy what we’ve come up with, and will fully utilize what it offers.
Thank you for all of your support, and I’ll see you over at VetVoice.com!

From the only GOP candidate with a pair:
By Ron Paul - Thank you for allowing me to take part in the launch of VetVoice! It is an honor to speak to our armed forces and our veterans. I am actually a veteran myself, having served as a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon during the Vietnam-era.
The most important action I will take as president to support the troops is to end our interventionist foreign policy. Our troops are spread all over the world, meaning we may have difficulty defending ourselves from future threats. We cannot be the policeman of the world. It endangers our national security, isolates us from nations that would otherwise be friendly, and hurts those who provide our security.
The situation in Iraq reminds us that we are to go to war only after a congressional declaration of war, as required by the Constitution. I opposed the Iraq War before it started, and I am gravely concerned about the current buildup to war with Iran. My administration will pursue a coherent foreign policy.
Such a foreign policy is based on understanding that America is best served by not interfering in the internal affairs of other nations. We should rid ourselves of the notion that we are at the mercy of the oil-producing countries- their wealth depends on our business. We should also end our disastrous foreign aid payments and stop propping up dictators and putting band-aids on festering problems.
I will work to capture Osama bin Laden and all of his remaining 9/11 co-conspirators.
Today’s soldiers should never be sent to war without clear objectives that serve definite American national security interests. All Americans will benefit from a coherent foreign policy of non-interventionism, free trade, and self-determination.

I’m sure you find it refreshing neo-cons, but put down the Kool Aid and heed the obvious - the GOP should catch up with it’s more lucid constituents.
March 27, 2007
With Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) working overtime to convince America that the GOP is the vanguard of the Flat Earth Society, it is worth recognizing that Republican voters are far ahead of their elected officials, who are in danger of losing support as a result of embracing a Luddite position on global warming.
In December — long before Al Gore’s Oscar and the latest consensus scientific report — we surveyed 400 New Hampshire Republican primary voters for Clear the Air and Clean Air-Cool Planet and found them surprisingly enlightened, despite their conservative orientation. Unlike their leaders, Republican voters are concerned about the dangers posed by global warming and endorse immediate action to curb the carbon pollution that causes it.
Nearly eight in 10 Republican primary voters in New Hampshire believe global warming is a reality that is either happening now or will happen in the future.
A solid 56 percent majority see global warming already occurring, while an additional 23 percent believe it will happen in the future.
JUST 14% OF ALL REPUBLICANS THINK GLOBAL WARMING WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Way to go you demented AJC “conservative” bloggers!

I missed the economic related cartoon yesterday, but just wanted to come in with a few things.
in the last 3 MONTHS, the following has happened.
The dollar has lost 8% of it’s value in relation to foriegn currency.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two largest government backed mortgage lenders have lost over 50% of thier stock value
COuntrywide, the largest private lender has lost 75% of it’s value in the last 6 months.
and yet there is no discussion of this in any of the debates. The reason is that no one has any idea how to stop it. Instead you have the majority of the GOP pushes for more war and foriegn military adventures, the dems parse words and talk about universal healthcare, but no one (except ron paul) talks about how we pay for any of this.
the US is 9 trillion in debt. China holds 3 trillion in foriegn reserves. Our elected officials have dumbed down debate to the extent that there is only rhetoric left. We talk about a war on terror, but we are losing the much larger struggle for global influence. Just so you understand, forget about what congress or the president decide, and forget about the UN as well, we cannot attack another nation without approval from China at this point because they have the power to DEFUND our government. Any of those little milton friedmans out there want to chime in about how the national debt doesn’t matter, or how about how tax cuts cure all ills. Greed by the voters, the belief that you can get something without paying for it, like national health care or a war is what is going to be the downfall of this country.

RW: I was present the day that DHIMM THE NEWS went whining to the AJC like a great big sobbing baby, the “culprit,” whoever it was, posted links to gay websites with zero pornography within the links, under the sniveling little whiner’s name.
If you followed advertisements within the links, then you get find pornography second hand, but you had to actively seek it out.
But the way that DHIMM THE NEWS went “shrill,” hysterical and must have lied like a rug, and ran to the AJC like a little putrid snot nosed suckas-s, they “banned” that poster.
I think the culprit was retaliating because the libs were linking racist websites to Conservative “nicknames” which is perfectly O.K. with the AJC and all the rest of these cry babies, apparently.

RW, the AJC is in a bit of a pickle. The only reason they banned that poster was because he was making terroristic threats against an american in a time of war using the public forum of this blog, which is like, so illegal man. They because complicit in that they censored certain blogs and not others which implies a reasonable person compliance to a gauntlet of liability criteria. Notice that not even wooten blogs anymore? I will agree with you on one point, a large part of the trade imbalance came about during the clinton presidency, with the push for NAFTA. Perot was right, that giant sucking sound was jobs leaving the country, only instead of mexico, they went to india and china.
Anyone here remember back in the 80s when eastern europe had this wierdly compuslive desire for american blue jeans? Is there even any clothing companies in the US anymore?

Hey, how ‘bout that? Scott McLellan, former White House Press Secretary, has fessed up regarding the outing of a covert CIA agent. He said both the President and VP knew about the issue and were personally pulling the strings. Does this mean that Bush is going to fire himself, since he promised to fire anyone involved? Of course not. Does this mean that our Pres & VP are guilty of treason, should be impeached, and sent to jail? Of course it does, but many of us knew this long ago.

If I act now I get a vial of bona fide Holy Water and a string of worry beads, and he’ll personally wipe his brow with not one, but two of the prayer cloths. At my level of giving, no massage, though he’s willing to go as far as touching. I have to wrap this thing up tonight, so I don’t have time to negotiate further. So if you have a counter offer, I’d appreciate your coperation. Otherwise, I’ve enjoyed our brief association and hope that we can work together in the future.
