Barring another 9/11, this election’s real issue will be the economy. And whoever can make their case for an economic recovery will win the White House. Then-candidate Bill Clinton won the election with “it’s the economy, stupid,” and if a recession begins during 2008, Hillary Clinton will be in a good place to do the same. With budget surpluses during the Clinton administration, Americans remember good economic times. They disliked “Slick Willy” but they liked the extra change in their pockets.

Okey Dokey ITN, I looked it up:
Paranoid: Paranoid personality disorder is characterized by a distrust of others and a constant suspicion that people around you have sinister motives. People with this disorder tend to have excessive trust in their own knowledge and abilities and usually avoid close relationships with others. They search for hidden meanings in everything and read hostile intentions into the actions of others. They are quick to challenge the loyalties of friends and loved ones and often appear cold and distant to others. They usually shift blame to others and tend to carry long grudges.
Oh noooooo! I think Hillary suffers from paranoia.

Good morning friends.

Looks like the always angry neo-cons are full of p!ss and vinegar this morning. What a way to go through life, huh duh?
Watched a GREAT episode of NOVA last night on PBS entitled, Judgment Day, Intelligent Design on Trial.
With the endless bad news regarding this incompetent and immoral Bush administration and the prayer-a-thons by Sonny “Rain Man” Purdue, it is easy to forget that saner voices still rule in this country. Thank goodness!
And this show, which detailed the case in Dover, Pa., demonstrated it clearly. Everyone interested in the First Amendment and especially ALL of you creationism clowns should watch it.
The judge when writing his opinion, called the ID defense team’s case “breathtakingly inane”, which reminded me of the constant drivel from the far right wing nut jobs, the religionists and the theocrats here!
This trial once again plainly showed why this country’s future simply cannot be entrusted to these simpletons and mythologists. Nor their twisted agenda of introducing this ridiculous 17th century claptrap into todays public school’s science classrooms.
BTW, lots of right wing religious hatred (death threats, vandalism, etc…) from some in the good “Christian” crowd was exposed during the show.

Buffett’s speaking about raising the inheritance tax, as well as his comments about the current income tax structure, are a bit lacking.
First - gov’t confiscation of a person’s estate doesn’t make opportunities for others any greater. It’s just more money into the general fund, to be lost in the mishmash of government programs.
Second, on his income tax inequity: no kidding. But his hypocrisy (and many others who speak out on this - Pelosi, Boxer, Hillary) overlooks one minor point:
The income tax calculate by their accountants is the MINIMUM required. They are more than able to contribute double, triple, or ten times the minimum. But they do not.
Seems to be more of “Fairness is what the government forces me to do, not something I can enact of my own free choice.”
Goldie 9:05
I thought of our Saudi discussion from the other day. One reason I record the evening Fox News broadcast with Brit Hume - I don’t see these stories on other outlets.
Seems a teenage girl in Saudi Arabia was gang raped. The court sentenced her to 30 lashes, as she was riding in a car with nonfamily males. When she went to the media with this outrage, the court reconsidered her case, then sentenced her to 200 lashes and six months in prison for causing embarrassment to the state and Islam by going public.
Just one more reason why I want as little as possible to do with a country and religion stuck in the 10th-century.

Paul Devotees Spark Online Backlash By Shawn Zeller, CQ Staff He may be the Republican version of Howard Dean in this election cycle, creating an impressive online fundraising base made up of Net-savvy activists. But Ron Paul is having a hard time keeping his cyber-supporters in civil debate mode. ….. Indeed, things have gotten so bad that a growing number of political blogs and discussion boards — not exactly prime outlets of delicacy in public-spirited discourse — have taken the drastic step of barring especially vocal backers of the Texas congressman from their ranks. Two high-profile conservative blogs, redstate.com and littlegreenfootballs.com, have issued selective bans on the more disruptive Paul supporters trolling the sites. And this month, Bobby Eberle, who runs the site GOPUSA.com, addressed an open letter to Paul backers urging civility.

The price of oil is $95 a barrel and rising.
On 9/11/2001 it was $25 a barrel.
Every gallon of gasoline you buy helps fund Islamic terrorists. The war in Iraq is a huge waste of American blood and treasure. No WMDs, no chemical or biological warfare agents. Nothing justifying a military occupation. President Eisenhower warned the nation nearly 50 years ago of the “military industrial complex” threat. He was SO right. Who do you think is paying for all those whiz bang deadly toys the Pentagon is using in the Middle East? You are. And your children. And their children. It’s like a kid maxing out Dad’s Visa card.

And just think how much fun this place is going to be a year from now, ITN!
This discredited and deadly inefficient administration will be leaving office with their collective tails between their legs to an incoming Democrat and the impending Congress will have but a smattering of the once arrogant and haughty, so called conservatives.
Look at just how many of them are too embarrassed to even TRY and keep their seats!
And that’s the best case scenario for them! But I get the feeling Bush Co, has one more major league blunder in them.
Their only hope is to relocate and re-empower the missing moderate, rational wing of the Republican Party. But that is LONG shot and I don’t see it happening, at least given this goofy slate of GOP candidates for POTUS.
And certainly there is NO chance of that return to reason happening in the anti 21st century Deep South.

The American People are sick of the Repudlickans. Even though the election is a whole year away, the Democrats are a 100 to 1 favorite to win.
Recent polls show Hillary ahead of the entire Repudlickan field by a 80 to 20 percent margin, but if you ask the voters who they’d vote for if Osama attacks the US again, the margin goes to 90% democrats vs 10% Repudlickers.
Then the pollsters asked if war was ever a good first resort and 137% said no, that war should be a last resort, and only then when you had a global alliance and a consensus agreement about the parameters and level of that war.
Then the pollsters asked if Cheney has committed treason when he ordered Rumsfeld to stand down after Bush ordered Rumsfeld to attack Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan in the summer of 02. 492% said yes. (only sen craig said no)

Yet another Republican incumbent is set to retire from the House — and his seat could potentially be a top target for the Democrats. Four-term Congressman Mike Ferguson (R-NJ) has announced his retirement, releasing a statement saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Ferguson’s district went for President Bush by a 53%-46% margin in 2004, meaning that Republicans do have a shot to retain it. On the other hand, the Republicans have gone way downhill since then, and 2006 Dem nominee Linda Stender lost by only one point in 2006 — and she is already running again.
PolitickerNJ reports that Republicans might already have a strong candidate in the wings: Tom Kean Jr., who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 2006 and has since become the state Senator Minority Leader. Back in 2000, Kean lost to Ferguson in the primary for this very seat.

An interesting toon, ML…but long overdue.
I was in Barcelona not long ago having dinner in a nice restaurant. At a nearby table there were 3 French businessmen and a French businesswoman enjoying their dinner. I asked the waiter to serve them a very old Spanish brandy (de Jerez Reserva) and put it on my tab. They asked the waiter who had sent over the drinks and he pointed our way. The gentleman who appeared to be the senior executive among them approached us to ask why we had sent over the drinks. I replied that not all Americans supported our government in the invasion of Iraq, nor our Congress’ stupid & empty gesture concerning “French Fries”. He smiled, thanked us and returned to his table to explain to his colleagues. They all turned to us a drank a toast.
I wonder how many Americans thought that Congress changing the menu from French Fries to “Freedom Fries” was a good thing. I also wonder how many of them now wish we had not gone into Iraq in the first place. Just wondering….

You are right about AmVet he is obsessive. It is sad to be so obsessed about people that you just make up stuff or think the worst of certain people at all times just because they may disagree with you.
BTW: Have you heard that Hillary put on a strap on and raped Vince Foster’s hamster in front of his children just to try and keep him quiet? When that didn’t work they just killed him. Does her evil know no bounds?
Have you also heard that she had a birthmark that said “666” removed from her forehead when she left the Republican Party in the late-60’s. Apparently, having the mark of the beast right in the middle of her forehead was ok at the Goldwater convention since Satan was perceived as a racist and a segregationist and thus was in tune with the party platform. Further Nixon was interested in trying to harness the power of Satan. His later association with Spiro Agnew, G. Gordon Liddy, Howard Hunt, H.R. Haldeman etc… allowed him to tap into limitless evil which then made Hillary’s evil expendable.
What I don’t understand is how Rush, Hannity, Fox News et. al., the Republican Presidential candidates, senators who opposed her health care plan in the 1990’s, the people who went after her husband etc., etc., have avoided her icy cold hand of death. Any ideas Luck?
