Don’t you just love the way liberals create problems and then whine about them:
{{{{One of the biggest liberal criticisms of the market was that low-income people — particularly blacks and Hispanics — were excluded from ownership through “blackballing,” “red-lining,” and other forms of discrimination.}}}}
Another disaster brought to you by liberals whining, so what do they do to help fix their mess?
Whine about it.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ®.
~~~~~~
Look at the little Klintoon toady roll over and play dead, on cue:
{{{{WOLF TURNS ‘LAMB’; CLINTON CAMPAIGN SAYS CNN HOST ‘OUTSTANDING’}}}}
~~~~~~
{{{{Hayek was a critic of big government, in part, because he understood that government bureaucracies, largely insulated from market prices, would assume they have knowledge they do not have, create unrealistic expectations, and misallocate resources they control. The politicians in Congress endlessly assert they have knowledge that they do not, and hence construct policies and organizations that make things worse rather than better.}}}}
Speaking of which, let’s gaze upon the fruits of the two New York Senator’s “hard work” and “labor:”
{{{{TO CALL NEW YORK STATE “politically dysfunctional” is to test the meaning of the term. Upstate New York is probably the most depressed economy in North America. Every major city is depopulating. There hasn’t been a new telephone area code assigned in years. People are selling their houses for less than they paid for them twenty years ago. As a result, New York now spends $44 billion a year on Medicaid, $10 billion more than second-place California, even though the Golden State has almost twice as many people. With only 6 percent of the nation’s population, New York spends 15 percent of all Medicaid dollars.}}}}
This is what liberals want to do to America.
And guaranteed, they will whine at us about it.
With friends like SHrillary and Schumer, who needs enemies?

I knew there was some pinko meddling behind the China toy scandal:
{{{{The CSPC is charged with regulating consumer products “against unreasonable risks of injuries.” It regulates more than 15,000 categories of products and literally billions of individual products, from toys to power equipment to furniture. It regulates virtually everything we buy except food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, cars, boats, firearms, tobacco and alcohol. The CSPC is supposed to do all this with 420 employees.}}}}
{{{{The Senate then put together a bill demanding the CSPC do a number of things it does not have the resources to do, engage in a number of activities that would not be cost-effective, and do things beyond the commission’s legal mandate, etc. In a politely worded letter to the senators, Mrs. Nord described what she and her staff believed were the problems with the proposed bill and advised the senators their proposed bill regarding her commission would likely make things worse rather than better. She was then hauled before the Senate committee and charged, both publicly and privately, by the senators and their staffs with not caring about children and being incompetent — a charge parroted and exaggerated by her critics’ media allies.}}}}
Isn’t that nice, again, the libs create a problem and then whine to us about it.
~~~~~~
{{{{Employees (democrats all) who worked in the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue used bogus documents to bilk taxpayers. Several named and unnamed co-conspirators committed mail fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, interstate transportation of stolen property and other crimes to defraud American taxpayers in general and D.C. taxpayers in particular of tens of millions of dollars over several years. The news is barely a week old; the investigation, of course, is ongoing. The grand total of the property-tax scheme rises regularly. Initial reports estimated $14 million. Yesterday, that figure hit $30 million — but nobody’s stopped counting.}}}}
So what would you rather have, some homosexual Republican or larcenous democrat stealing millions?
I know what the democrats think, gays are the worst people on Earth and should be voted out of office.
The cartoon stinks today. Surprised at Lucko. Perhaps the point Lucko’s trying to make, a joke which has a shelf life of next Tuesday, is that a real estate agent would make a good hatchetman. The dialogue balloon should be attributed to the headless turkey, if he’s the one selling the house, then he would lose everything in this unprecedented buyer’s market. The intact turkey would then have a contemporary problem drawn in. Take your pick: steroid abuse, hershell walker threats, perjury charges for steroid abuse, as asterisk by his name on the all time most heaviest turkey stats, etc.
Spend a little more time with the damn toons or quit and let a middle school grafitti fiend draw them, mister man.
Petraeus adviser: Violence reduction due to ‘luck.’In an interview with the Council on Foreign Relations, Gen. David Petraeus’s adviser Stephen Biddle said that much of the U.S.’s recent “tactical successes” in Iraq have little to do with the impact of Bush’s escalation but instead are largely “luck.” ……. Q: Well what do you attribute this whole change on the ground to? Is this due to what is called “the surge,” or good diplomacy by the U.S. military, or just luck? ……… BIDDLE: All of those things have some role but I would put “luck” as probably the biggest.
This week, NOW travels to North Minneapolis to investigate the mortgage meltdown that has left the city scarred with boarded-up and abandoned houses. What’s happened in communities like this one has investors everywhere shaken. Wall Street firms are stumbling and markets around the globe are nervous. Economists worry the mortgage bust may lead to a recession. NOW connects the dots to see the extent to which recklessness, corruption and greed created this subprime mess that now threatens to undermine our entire economy. David Brancaccio talks to Rep. Keith Ellison, who grew up in North Minneapolis and who has pushed legislation to address the crisis. He also talks to Ameriquest whistleblower Mark Bomchill, who explains the competitive “boiler room” culture that encouraged brokers to aggressively push mortgage products they knew clients would be unable to repay.
Hard hitting questions in last nights debate.
Sorry Paul, but Barack Obama floundered. He was clearly set up by Hillary on the drivers licenses to illegal immigrants issue. Unsuspecting and unprepared.
(((Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, who has trailed the top-tier candidates, tried to reset the tone from personal sniping to issues such as the economy and the Iraq war.)))
(((Hey, look, let's get to it, folks,'' Biden, 64, said.The American people don’t give a darn about any of this stuff that’s going on up here.”)))
There’s ^^^ your best candidate right there. I don’t agree with him on some issues but he knows his stuff and he’s a straight shooter. I like that. He’s paid his dues.
Democrats Pushed to Raise `Breathtaking’ $154 Million for Party
(((The demands are creating cozier relationships between lawmakers and special interests, said Bill Allison, a senior fellow at the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based watchdog group.)))
(((“The fact that they’re raising so much money by interests before their committees is something the public should be concerned about,” Allison said.)))
(((Party fund raising is used by congressional leaders to help determine committee assignments. The DCCC document shows that two lawmakers who were overlooked this year to head the House Intelligence Committee — Representatives Alcee Hastings of Florida and Jane Harman of California — haven’t donated dues. Hastings said he’ll pay after primary season, and Harman declined to comment.)))
I also like Jane Harman, she’s well qualified but does that matter?
(((I've paid all my dues in all past cycles,'' said Harman, whose relationship with Pelosi was further strained over the panel chairmanship.I just have no comment.”)))
Obviously not! It’s all about the money with Democrats.
Golduh: Find a mirror, dimwit.
To be a beacon is to support the creation of a culture that is not dark, or sulfurous, or obviously unwell. We introduce our culture to our new immigrants each day through television. Just for a moment, imagine you are a young person from Africa or South America, a new American. You come here and put on the TV, for even the most innocent know that TV is America and America is TV, and you want to learn quickly. What you see is an obvious and embarrassing obsession with sex, with violence, with sexual dysfunction. You see the routine debasement of women parading as the liberation of women.
CONCORD, N.H. — Residents in New Hampshire and Iowa have received phone calls raising questions about Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, his Mormon faith and the Vietnam War-era military deferments he received while serving as a missionary in France…………………. Western Wats, a Utah-based company, placed the calls that initially sound like a poll but then pose questions that cast Romney in a harsh light, according to those who received the calls. In politics, this type of phone surveying is called “push polling” _ contacting potential voters and asking questions intended to plant a message in voters’ minds, usually negative, rather than gauging peoples’ attitudes……………………………. Last year, Western Wats conducted polling that was intended to spread negative messages about Democratic candidates in a House race in New York and the Senate race in Florida. The Tampa Tribune and the Albany Times Union reported that Western Wats conducted the calls on behalf of the Tarrance Group………… That Virginia-based firm now works for Romney’s rival, Rudy Giuliani. The campaign has paid the firm more than $400,000, according to federal campaign reports.
Okay Goldie - Do you want CENSORSHIP because you do not like someone else’s opinion or format? When was the last time you watched Fox News? I watched the Clinton News Network last night before and after the debate and found it to be dull, full of fluff and this morning they were going on about the same crap that Montel Williams does. I listen to NPR EVERY afternoon, and I find it dull and pedantic as well as highly biased with opinion almost always parading as hard news. I don’t want them censored, although I also don’t want one penny of my tax dollars going to them, just as I don’t want one penny of my tax dollars going to the Christian Science Monitor.
Lotsa reports of how Fox Noise has more displays of sex and porn as a regular part of its “news” shows. Here’s one for ya:
Your World w/Neil Cavuto is Fox News’ weekday “business” news program. It airs at 4:00 p.m. ET and Fox touts it as “the most watched business news show on the planet.” Somewhere along the line in my monitoring of the show, I noticed that Neil Cavuto added a fair amount of sex to the mix. As a matter of fact, he aired more sexy stories and video clips than I saw on any other daytime cable news show.
And of course there’s all of Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid “newspapers” that he’s so notorious for all over the world…
Hard hitting questions?!? Well, while some of the initial questions were pointed, when candidates waffled, dipped, and dodged, follow up questions were missing altogether or often not addressed specifically. I found the followups on the MSNBC debate much more pointed. Russert and Matthews did a good job. It was obvious that Wolf was holding back.
Clinton dodged and Wolf didn’t call her on it.
I agree that Biden is far and away the most qualified, and probably the Dems best choice. Unfortunately for the party (and for America, for that matter), that he won’t get the nod.
Mark this down! I predict she wins the nomination and picks Biden as the VP candidate. She praised him too much last night. I think that they already have it planned.
Okay Goldie, let’s look at the ‘qualifications’ of the Democrat candidates. We will stop from the bottom and go to the top. Kucinich is a kook and fool who echoes the views of such discredited fools from the left and the right as Karl Marx, Ron Dellums, Charles Lindbergh and Pat Buchanan, not to mention everyone’s favorite nut, H. Ross Perot. He was the worst mayor in the history of Cleveland (that takes talent) and he has no real record of any accomplishment in Congress.
Biden is a liar and a blowhard. His ‘record’ speaks for itself.
Chris Dodd has served in the Senate since 1981 and has been going on about the same issues for all of that time and never has presented any kind of comprehensive plan to solve any of these problems.
John Edwards is the typical shister lawyer who did well in front of a jury, but who could not even pull along his own state in 2004. His performance in last night’s debate should expose him for the shallow twit he is, but his hypocritical life-style should speak volumes to any observer.
Barak Obama has no record to speak of. He is all hole and no donut. He has only been in the Senate since 2005 and before that was a state legislator. He is also part of the Chicago political machine. Some ‘honest’ guy.
Hillary Clinton has spent a lifetime rubbing people the wrong way. She has been caught in so many lies and half truths that it is amazing. She changes posistions in mid sentence and she has ZERO record of accomplishment in the Senate. She has actually never run anything in her life. Ditto for all of those mentioned formerly, except for Kucinich, and I already mentioned his record.
Richardson is therefore the only one who might be qualified to be president. He has been a cabinet secretary, governor and an ambassador. He also has been a legislator. His positions on foreign policy and defense are nutty and rather weird, but he is pandering to the moveon.org crowd. Nevertheless, he is the ONLY even remotely qualified Democrat candidate.
I can say the same about most of the Republicans, but at least three of them are more qualified than ANY of the Democrat candidates.
A few comments on last night’s debate.
As I’ve shared here many times, I am a former Democrat. In the past two elections I voted for Nader both times. I fully expected the GOP to treat him like dirt and they did. (Don’t they treat all non-Republicans that way?)
But in some ways, the Dems were even worse and I have yet to forget that. Plus that party has been overly-influenced (manipulated?) by too many of the far leftists IMHO.
BUT….
I am also a pragmatist and live in a reality-based world.
And the realities are that the GOP is currently a complete abortion. I see NO ONE in that party who will not to some great degree follow in the very footsteps our current debacle-in-chief.
With that said, there are several Dem candidates who are very capable candidates and IMHO would make a fine US President - Biden, Dodd and Richardson. All VERY experienced, qualified and smart. In other words, the very antithesis of what we currently have in this administration.
I am not a big fan of the three front runners, but still I sense that any of them would probably be a better bet for the nation than yet another “conservative” fraud.
Goldie? Fux News and salacious stories? NEVER! As Don Henley sang years ago:
No apology necessary. I was closely watching Obama’s struggle on answering about driver’s licenses. I saw it as trying to give an answer to a yes or no question that is really quite multifaceted. Frankly, I lean towards giving illegals driver’s licenses. Can you imagine how that answer would be used by opponents IF I couldn’t follow up with: so I was sure the drivers who are already driving can read the street signs; so I was sure the drivers already driving can take a driving test and demonstrate they can drive safely; so a driver’s license in these cases could NOT be used as an official ID to substantiate any other ID or privilege.
I noticed Hillary answered “No” very quickly.
Rather the same as “which is more important: Human Rights or National Security?” Give me a break. Which is more important? Food or water?
In spite of ITN’s links, my perception is Blitzer didn’t back down on anything. I recorded it, haven’t taken the time to go back for the soundbites, but I liked Blitzer’s observation that Dick Cheney has a higher approval rating than Congress! Zing!
He was a moderator, though - else I would have expected a challenge to that vet with his mom who asked about “Bush planning an invasion of Iran and what can we do to stop the neocons.” Puhleeze. I may reconsider my eye-rolling when I’m presented invasion plans - which is different than prudent contingency planning for an air campaign (which, by the way, I have serious doubts concerning efficacy).
I liked much of what Biden had to say. For sure he’s much more connected with foreign policy challenges than the others - even though I disagree with some of his conclusions. And with both him and Dodd - dress it any way you want - especially in light of past criticism of the far right for demanding litmus tests on issues - the entire “would you nominate a nominee to the Court who did not support abortion?” and answered “ummm, I’d have to nominate someone who was firm on precedent.” Sorry guys, precedent is a strong, not an inviolate, principle. Biden and Dodd both have litmus tests.
CNN’s numbers are abysmal. What I find even more amazing is how these media outlets take people whose performance as measured by market share is no way relate to their stratospheric salaries and continue to pay them to play musical chairs as they move from one high-paying job to another, with a legacy that seems to be “how much market share did you lose while you were in charge?” NBC seems to set the standard for this.
It’s always fun to check sources. Even more fun to do a followup with “Sen Biden, last we spoke you said…”
No doubt Hillary was the big winner last night. She shrugged off attacks. Edwards sounds like a fool, constantly babbling about “neo-cons”, which quite frankly is just gibberish.
Hill didn’t take any scuds like the previous debate, and Obama’s stammering all but did him in.
I think in such a biased audience, to win points, every third or fourth statement has to be a Bush slam. That gets them applauding. I find that disingenious, since it is always about the past, and not what any one is going to do about the future.
Rudy’s Swift Sub Veterans for the Truth?
Residents in New Hampshire and Iowa have received phone calls raising questions about Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, his Mormon faith and the Vietnam War-era military deferments he received while serving as a missionary in France.
Western Wats, a Utah-based company, placed the calls that initially sound like a poll but then pose questions that cast Romney in a harsh light, according to those who received the calls. In politics, this type of phone surveying is called “push polling” _ contacting potential voters and asking questions intended to plant a message in voters’ minds, usually negative, rather than gauging peoples’ attitudes.
Among the questions was whether a resident knew that Romney was a Mormon, that he received military deferments when he served as a Mormon missionary in France, that his five sons did not serve in the military, that Romney’s faith did not accept blacks as bishops into the 1970s and that Mormons believe the Book of Mormon is superior to the Bible.
Last year, Western Wats conducted polling that was intended to spread negative messages about Democratic candidates in a House race in New York and the Senate race in Florida. The Tampa Tribune and the Albany Times Union reported that Western Wats conducted the calls on behalf of the Tarrance Group.
That Virginia-based firm now works for Romney’s rival, Rudy Giuliani. The campaign has paid the firm more than $400,000, according to federal campaign reports.
I was asked yesterday who said “well, then we have a big problem”. I gave you that one source. Did you want me to cite 20 people who said that? I gave you the source, the PERSON, not the place it was published. That I found it on Washingtonpost.com is irrelevant. And you think that’s a conservative rag??? You’re nuts, but we already knew that. I also asked you libs to deny your party benefits from things going poorly in Iraq (ie, our soldiers get killed). Do you remember that??? Nothing will change in Washington with the Clintons except the names of the pro israel operatives who have infiltrated our government. The neocons believe in using force to destroy the Arab and Muslim worlds, while lining their own and israel’s pockets with American tax dollars. The liberal pack that is sponsoring Clinton believes in less force, and more bribes, while lining thier own and Israel’s pocket with American tax dollar. Some say that the drivers license for illegals will mandate insurance coverage but I gotta tell you…we’re dealing with government employees here. I have personally known those who carry no insurance but put a fake policy # down when applying for their tags. Nobody questioned the fake number and they’re driving with no insurance. Only after an accident will it become apparent.
Someone hit me from behind in an accident. We exchanged insurance information. The card looked legit but when I contacted their insurance company they had no record of a policy in that name. The address on their license wasn’t legit either.
Where there’s a will there’s a way and government employees have no will/motivation to perform their duties efficiently.
Biden’s response on merit raises for teachers addressed that same will/motivation question. Whose gonna be responsible for determing merit? Good question Joe.
Yes…they all had a litmus test for SCOTUS appointments.
In some ways I agree with the statement “…since it is always about the past, and not what any one is going to do about the future.”
But more than any other election in my adult lifetime, save perhaps 1968, this one is about CHANGE. Real, fundamental change.
And with the current situation in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Korea and the “Holy Land”, the stakes are simply much too great to entrust the progress of this nation with more of the same failed Republican policies and agenda.
(And that doesn’t even include the debacle called domestic policy set forth by this administration.)
And I hope and trust that the GOP pounding the message that Dems are soft on national security will ring hollow with the vast majority of Americans. The neo-cons creditability being in the toilet on this and countless other matters.
I know that every four years someone plays this change card, but this time, the American electorate is SO tuned into that message that it just can’t be understated.
Years of incompetent neo-cons at the helm have brought us, like it or not, to this point.
Burn’s The War just glorifies war. We were suckered into WWII by FDR, who was owned and operated by a foreign power, England and Churchill. FDR cut off American trade with Japan, knowing Japan was allied with Germany, in hopes the Japs would attack America, thus compelling us to fight. In WWI, it was again England that manipulated America into the war. First England cut the transatlantic cable connecting Germany to America, thus guaranteeing only English propaganda got to America. Still we refused to enter the war. England finally directed an American ship that was illegally carrying amrs to England, into waters with known German submarine activity. When the Germans rightly sank this arms carrying ship, it gave the English operatives in America just the cause to drive America into Englands war. Regardless, the men depicted in The War were mere helpless pawns to a foreign power. Now another foreign power has manipulated America into fighting another foreign war. The men doing the fighting are victims, not heros. Murdering innocent people is hard, soul wrecking work, hence many of the veterans who return from Iraq are committing suicide. They die as victims of zionism and treason in high places here in America.
Bill, everything I have said about wwi and wwii are true and well documented. Once we were in the wars, it was fight or die, but we should not have been in either war. In WWII Ivan would have defeated the Germans sometime around 1948 or so, but would have been terrible weakened by the long running war. Japan would have spent its power in China. In WWI, all sides would have exhausted themselves and their resources by 1920 at the latest. Hitler may very well have been killed on the battlefield, he was an infantry grunt. A million plus American men would have avoided death or disfigurement had we stayed out of those two foreign wars. Just because things turned out good for us in WWi and WWii does not mean this current foreign mess in Iraq will. Wars have a way of growing, from Iraq, to Iran, to Pakistan, until they consume all. We entered wwi and wwii late, after the enemies had been severly weakened. This time we are in at the beginning, and the cost will be high.
Gore, who has been the target of several Democratic grass-roots efforts to persuade him to run for president, has said he has no plans to become a candidate, but hasn’t firmly shut the door to a bid. Schwarzenegger, a Republican and native of Austria who is prohibited by the Constitution from becoming president, had previously signaled his intention to play a role in the 2008 contest by drawing attention to issues of special interest, including global warming.
A spokesman for Schwarzenegger confirmed the forum after Arizona Sen. John McCain, a GOP presidential candidate, mentioned it Thursday during a news conference in Sacramento, Calif.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Adam Mendelsohn says the forum is still being planned, but candidates from both major parties are expected to attend. Gore _ who won the popular vote for president in 2000, but lost the electoral vote count through a Supreme Court decision _ will handle the Democratic candidates at the forum, while Schwarzenegger will handle the Republicans.
“I know the issue,” said McCain, who has been an advocate in Congress for legislation regulating the greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change. “I’ve been involved in it for many, many years. And I’m proud to have played a role in leadership on it.”
Gore’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But Mendelsohn said the former vice president was actively involved in designing the forum.
This year, Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his effort to inspire action to curb climate change, and a documentary based on his effort, “An Inconvenient Truth,” won an Academy Award.
I had to read the first few paragraphs a couple of times.
The lead paragraph was “The Senate on Friday blocked a Democratic proposal that would have paid for the Iraq war but required that troops start coming home.” So the Dem proposal failed.
The second paragraph contains the sentence “It came minutes after the Senate rejected a Republican proposal to pay for the Iraq war with no strings attached.” So the Rep proposal failed.
Skirmishing back and forth, Dem and Rep proposals fail, but the headline (which many remember) from the NY Times is “GOP Loses Vote on War Funding.”
And people say there’s no bias in the media.
Paul, you THINK people would have learned about that by now!
It is my experience that the American people are quite forgiving (perhaps to a fault?) and second chances are not out of the question.
Unless, of course, one tries the infamous Richard Nixon or Pete Rose cover-up.
Then they want a piece of the “offenders” a$$…
I’ll have to check, but I think last night Obama answered “I made a mistake” or words to that effect.
And the debate blew right on by.
I agree - most people are forgiving. But some treat any sign of a mistake as a fatal weakness and will attack.
I can see the farleft point about pointing out the hypocrisy of some who preach one thing and do another.
I can see the farright point about frustration with people who espouse principles in passing, engage in poor conduct, then put forth denial. Or who point the self-righteous finger at opponents while they are lacking (I think it’s called being human?).
And that’s different than events that occur in a candidate’s personal, private life. Which doesn’t much interest me. Many of our past political leaders who rose to the occasion when our country really needed them had lousy, immoral personal lives or family members who were basket cases.
But thank heavens they were there when we needed them.
The Democrats do not benefit from dead soldiers, nor did they say it. The “quote” from Clyburn in the Washington Post said nothing to that fact. You are a liar and a waste of humanity.
By your logic we can say about the GOP:
They support the killing of Iraqi civilians
They support casual homosexual sex in public restrooms
They support policies which deny children healthcare
They support torture
They support war crimes
The list could go on and on you complete moron.
Reality. Your culpable ignorance re WW II is amazing, but not surprising. The f world was crumbling around us, Europe was entirely under the Nazi boot. Only England still alive, being bombed nitely. All one had to do was attend a movie and see the horror portrayed in the news films. Or flip on 1 of the 3 national radio stations at night to obtain news from Europe. Been there - done that. “Ivan…in…1948.” What the f is wrong w your head?? Our buildup to a war status began quietly, w heads of industry cooperating w FDR, in 1938. THANKFULLY. Goldie, other than a very occasional jab at the infamous and once banned Andy, I do not engage the other trolls whatsoever.
I made that patently clear some months ago, but they still don’t seem to get that message.
Occasionally, RW will make advances toward me, but it is much more often and predictable that his unsolicited “responses” are personal and of the juvenile and insulting type.
The other two or three, like their hero here, are just consumed by their anger and self-righteousness and their only comments directed at me are of the venomous nature.
But more significantly, I recently have noticed a major shift in the extreme right wing crowd here that mirrors that on the national scene.
They are now obviously dispirited and their attacks lack the vigor and vitriol they once had. And even though they seem to understand that their neo-con swan song is playing it’s last stanza, there is of course, no remorse nor accountability for supporting unquestioningly the failures of this administration and its agenda. But merely a half-hearted and flagging effort to keep each others spirits up in the face of another impending political slaughter.
Perhaps some will find their personal epiphanies, but I am most doubtful and so will continue to see them as more or less irrelevant.
Enjoy your weekend, all! I’m outta here!
{{{Diamonds or pearls’? CNN made her do it. During last night’s Democratic presidential candidates debate, UNLV student Maria Luisa asked the final question of the evening. Luisa laughingly asked Clinton: “Do you prefer diamonds or pearls?” Marc Ambinder reports that Luisa actually wanted to ask a substantive question about the Yucca Mountain nuclear repository, but CNN urged her to go with “diamonds or pearls” instead. Luisa writes on her MySpace page:
CNN ran out of time and used me to “close” the debate with the pearls/diamonds question. Seconds later this girl comes up to me and says, “you gave our school a bad reputation.’ Well, I had to explain to her that every question from the audience was pre-planned and censored. That’s what the media does. See, the media chose what they wanted, not what the people or audience really wanted. That’s politics; that’s reality. So, if you want to read about real issues important to America–and the whole world, I suggest you pick up a copy of the Economist or the New York Times or some other independent source. You got that right, Ralph. So now bhere we are. Less than a year until the next presidential election and it’s beyond boring. But less than a year until the country finally takes a deep breath and flexes its atrophied muscles and opens its bloody, Cheney-punched mouth and lets the world know, thru its numb and dejected soul, how sick and unwell it has felt. The long national nightmare of George W. Bush will finally be over.
Bushbrain will pack his bags, jamming into his Spongebob duffle his map of the world coloring book, his mangled pocket edition of the U.S. Constitution, his Bibleman action figure set, and a “Mission Accomplished” sweatshirt. He will then head off to face his destiny as one of the bleakest, most morally repellent chapters in all of American history. Think it’s too soon to breathe?
Nice also to see the glorious collapse of the evangelical Christian right and Pat Robertson reduced to but a dejected, lonely widower after the death of his secret boy-toy lover husband, Jerry Falwell. Fine Christians both. Pat has endorsed pro-gay, pro-choice, massively unbalanced moral pitbull Giuliani. It is good.
Whatever else, we can look forward to Bush’s limp-tailed departure. Then begin to compile a list of all the names and all the horors and all the deeply entrenched policies that will still be clawing at the face of America as a result of Bush’s grisly reign. We need to understand just how deep the disease and the injuries are and how far they have spread, so that we may begin to excise them one by one. An incredible amount of surgery will be required.
Dr Phares wrote years and years ago about the origins of the “Arab studies” programs - funded by Wahabbists from Saudi Arabia. Now, many of those teaching at universities, doing research or called upon as experts to give testimony are products of these programs.
In many professions, the strength of one’s credentials is attributed, at least in part, to where they studied and earned their degree. In this field it’s rather limited.
Let me put it this way to some doubters: if all the political science graduates in the US were products of universities whose programs were established by the Republican National Committee, I’m sure some (maybe just a couple here?) would mildly question their view of politics.
Another good article - thanks. Just a bit ago, when one of the first deals was signed with the Hunts (which the US gov’t quickly took exception to) some saw it (understandably) as a Bush-oil connection. Clyburn didn’t say it moron - did you copy that straight from Sowell’s interview?
In his September 19 nationally syndicated column, Thomas Sowell misrepresented comments made by House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) during a July 30 “PostTalk” interview on washingtonpost.com. Echoing comments by other conservatives, Sowell falsely claimed that Clyburn “admitted that an American victory in Iraq ‘would be a real big problem for us’ in next year’s elections.” In fact, responding to a question about what Democrats would do in September if Gen. David Petraeus said, “This is working very, very well at this point; we would be foolish to back away from it,” Clyburn stated that such a recommendation would be a “real big problem for us” because it would impede Democrats’ efforts to garner support in Congress for legislation to begin withdrawal, not because of any electoral effect it would have
Where in that statement did Clyburn say the Democrats would benefit from dead soldiers in Iraq?
I know that you have the brain capacity of a gnat and about as much sense as a slug, but no sane person in their right mind would interpret comments like that (unless you are of course a Nazi like Sowell) as Democrats benefit off dead soldiers.
Republicans in Hell
While walking down the street one day, a Republican head of state is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
“Welcome to Heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.”
“No problem, just let me in.” says the Republican.
“Well, I’d like to but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”
“Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven,” says the Republican head of state.
“I’m sorry but we have our rules.” And with that, St. Peter escorts the Republican to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him, everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, hug him, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the Devil (a Republican, too), who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are having such a good time that, before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
“Now it’s time to visit Heaven.” So 24 hours pass with the Republican head of state joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
“Well then, you’ve spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity.”
He reflects for a minute, then the head of state answers: “Well, I would never have thought it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell.”
So Saint Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. Now
THE REST OF THE DAMN JOKE
So Saint Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The Devil comes over to the Republican and lays an arm on his neck.
“I don’t understand,” stammers the Republican head of state. Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.
The Devil looks at him, smiles and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning. Today you voted for us!”
I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am!” The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above sea level. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.” She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.”“I am,” replied the man. “How did you guess?” “Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.” The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Democrat.” “I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?” “Well” said the man, “You don’t know where you are or where you’re going. You’ve risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You’ve made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect ME to solve your problem. Senator Hillary Clinton was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upper New York State. She spoke for almost an hour on her future plans for increasing every Native American’s present standard of living, should she one day become the first female President. She referred to her career as a New York Senator, how she had signed “YES” for every Indian issue that came to her desk for approval.
Although the Senator was vague on the details of her plan, she seemed most enthusiastic about her future ideas for helping her “red sisters and brothers”.
At the conclusion of her speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a plaque inscribed with her new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud Senator then departed in her motorcade, waving to the crowds.
A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they come to select the new name given to the Senator.
They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of shiat it can no longer fly.
They say they’ve got proof, and they more than anyone would know what proof is. The remaining deliberations on Bonds will go the more quickly for the Grand Jury’s groundwork and clout.
