Is there anything the liberals won’t whine about?

How can this possibly be bothering them?

While it is ususally pointless to contest statements by Lucko, two things stood out on his post. The first is why is an atheist automatically branded a Liberal? How do you know? He’s as angry as you are, so why isn’t he a conservative?

Secondly, in response to your second “paragraph”, you are the one constantly whining and badgering persons with views that differ from yours. Listen and think…something new and different…you do not have all the answers. As for the Clinton issue, the score is one to one when considering FEMA’s attempt to be the “press” unless you forget the censoring of info. Remember, they are apart of your “Holy” government of greed, fear, and stupidity.

Finally, are you really a bisexual? After yesterdays posts on the drought (another AJC Blog), you may be Alexis, who blamed the drought on homosexuals and liberals. As for praying for rain, what do you think we have been doing for the past 4 months? Does God only listen when you get a group together or on Sundays, or can he listen to impromptu DAILY/Hourly prayers also?

$1.5 Trillion by BarbinMD

Mon Nov 12, 2007 at 11:53:23 PM PST When writing about the monetary cost of the war in Iraq in recent months, typing out, “$500 billion,” always boggled the mind. Who knew that that wasn’t the half of it…so to speak:

The economic costs to the United States of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan so far total approximately $1.5 trillion, according to a new study by congressional Democrats that estimates the conflicts’ “hidden costs”— including higher oil prices, the expense of treating wounded veterans and interest payments on the money borrowed to pay for the wars.

That amount is nearly double the $804 billion the White House has spent or requested to wage these wars through 2008, according to the Democratic staff of Congress’s Joint Economic Committee. Its report, titled “The Hidden Costs of the Iraq War,” estimates that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have thus far cost the average U.S. family of four more than $20,000.

And as you take a few moments to let that sink in, remember this from 2003, when then Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz:

…spent much of the hearing knocking down published estimates of the costs of war and rebuilding, saying the upper range of $95 billion was too high, and that the estimates were almost meaningless because of the variables. Moreover, he said such estimates, and speculation that postwar reconstruction costs could climb even higher, ignored the fact that Iraq is a wealthy country, with annual oil exports worth $15 billion to $20 billion. “To assume we’re going to pay for it all is just wrong,” he said.

Well, you know what happens when we assume.

Good morning all!

I like today’s cartoon - non-political, at least to me. I know some of us can make anything a liberal vs. conservative issue, but the holidays are approaching which puts me in an inexplicably good mood!

Okay, this war on Christmas thing, how much of a big deal is this? I live in a small town, and I don’t seem to see it as much as some of you might in the big city.

The only time I say Happy Holidays is if I know I’m speaking to a Jew or Muslim (or other religion, but we don’t have many Hindus, Buddhists, etc. in town), otherwise I say Merry Christmas - I think most normal people know that it’s the sentiment that counts.

If some person gets offended that I wish them good cheer and that I’m not being totally politically correct, then so be it. There are lots of things in this world you can be offended about and if that makes you mad, then you probably have bigger issues.

Bosch, Wow!! I actually agree with you on something. If people are offended by me saying “Merry Christmas” to them, that’s THEIR problem, not mine.

Now, to your question of “how much of a big deal is this?” To me, it’s a very big deal. The problem is the source. “Merry Christmas” has been a fixture around Christmas in this country for many years. Until the ACLU and the anti Christian crowd declared war on it. It has been forced out of our schools, off our government property, and they’ve intimidated the retailers into “happy holidays” for fear of offending some minority of people. They don’t seem to mind making most of their yearly profit as people buy gifts for CHRISTmas, but they sure wouldn’t want to offend any of those non Christians who aren’t there shopping anyway because they don’t celebrate Christmas. If you don’t want to celebrate Christmas, don’t. I don’t care. But I resent the fact people are actively trying to remove the reference to Christ and the meaning of Christmas from the holiday and I will fight for it. Greetings of “happy holidays” will be answered with “Merry Christmas to you!!” from me.

Well, RB, call it a Thanksgiving miracle.

But, I don’t know where you live, (obviously somewhere in Gwinnet Co.), but it hasn’t been forced out of anywhere around here - especially not the schools - and our schools do have some Muslim children - and when I have to go into “government buildings” I still see Christmas trees, etc. I do most of my shopping on-line because I detest malls, but the retail places I go still have the traditional Christmas stuff.

So I guess my question is, how much of this is just media hype and how much of it is actually taking place in the mainstream. Like most things that get thrown into the liberal v. conservative arena, in my opinion, it’s just a few ugly cases that get all the attention?

RS, speaking of the more right wing one leans, the more close minded they are, these results confirm what I have known and experienced my entire adult life:

Rush Limbaugh was ahead of the curve in recognizing the source of his ratings success. He often says it is because he is merely confirming what listeners already believed, not because of his powers of persuasion.

He also says he suspects there is a sizable chunk of his audience who are not conservative like him, but rather are from the other end of the political spectrum. On this point the Zogby/Lear Center Poll shows he is right, er, correct. The extensive interactive survey of deeply held beliefs and behavior patterns – conducted June 26–29, 2007, including 3,939 adults nationwide and carrying a margin of error of +/– 1.6 percentage points – shows that liberals were much more likely than conservatives to listen to commentary and entertainment with which they disagreed philosophically. This could be part of the reason Air America has faltered – there are simply fewer potential listeners.

While 22% of conservatives said they “never” enjoy entertainment that reflects values other than their own, just 7% of liberals felt the same way. At the other end of the scale, just 11% of conservatives said they “very often” enjoyed programming that ran counter to their personal philosophies, compared to 20% of liberals and 18% of moderates who said the same thing. In other words, Limbaugh’s potential audience is larger than that of liberal competitors because more liberals say they will listen to conservatives than vice versa.

Ed Buckner from the Atlanta Freethought Society was just on Fox News. I sure hope you atheists have a better spokesman to trot out in the future.

When Meghan Kelly asked him how an interfaith prayer service consisting of Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc. constituted a state endorsement of a religion all he could do was babble about how America is not a Christian nation therefore Sonny had no right to have this prayer service.

Uh Ed, did you miss the interfaith part of the question? My guess is that Ed is one of the posters here (a very long winded one) and will soon be along to type the same talking points he read from.

As for our large, but diminished, governor praying for rain, it merely reflects his irrational belief that parading out this nonsense rather than effectively leading and making TIMELY difficult decisions is the way to govern.

But alas, the governor of Alabama apparently did not pray “hard enough” as his supplications from back in the summer remained unanswered.

And as for the moronic question, “what does it hurt?”, the answer is the same as that to the question, “how does this help us one iota?”.

It doesn’t.

And so we endure irrational fools as our supposed leaders and mindless sheep who trust them.

Bosch, You would be hard pressed to find ANY “Merry Christmas” signs in any major retailer these days. They’ve all given in to the PC crowd and posted “happy holidays” or “Joy” or something non Christian related. I too am not a fan of malls, but I have to go to one this weekend. I’ll let you know what I find next week.

With a quick check of web sites, Macy’s, JC Penny, Sears, and Wal Mart have no reference to Christmas shopping on them. All “Holiday” shopping. Target actually has a “Christmas Shopping” section on theirs. Go Target!!

The former Republican, turned independent, Bloomberg may be comitting political suicide if he really is serious about becoming Ronnie, Jr.

All but the most strident neo-cons have concluded that Reagan’s legacy was very mixed with a TON of smelly baggage.

Most of his neo-con ideas were a failure then, and the country won’t easily be persuaded to give them another try.

ESPECIALLY after this last debacle of a neo-con President.

The question remains, we can get multiple families out of homes (how far do we go with that? Granny or Aunt Bea out on the street?) but unless we get them to another area of the state/country/continent they still will be using water.

Why not a moratorium on new building?

Allow me to interject a thought here, unless this house is on a septic system, every bit of water used goes into a pipe, through the treatment plants and directly back into the river from whence it came.

There could be three thousand people living in the house the same holds true.

In fact, humans add more water to the river shed then would naturally return there during a normal rain, as asphalt and concrete do not absorb water as the undisturbed ground does.

It’s the musselhead whacko environmentalists, period.

The same mussels that should have evolved to their low water situation by growing some feets and walking the hell to where the water is at.

So much for that idea, huh, Darwin?

But anyway, it appears that the Lord has heard Sonny’s prayers and we shall receive a respite here in the next several days.

From the How Stupid Can You Be category!

HOUMA, La. — A white state lawmaker in a runoff election called a black civil-rights veteran who had helped her campaign “Buckwheat,” angering the NAACP, which urged voters to kick her out of office.

Rep. Carla Blanchard Dartez, a Democrat, acknowledged that she ended a Thursday night conversation with Hazel Boykin by saying, “Talk to you later, Buckwheat.” Dartez had been thanking Boykin for driving voters to the polls.

Buckwheat, a black child character in the “Little Rascals” comedies of the 1930s and ’40s, is viewed as a racial stereotype.

Boykin, 75, helped desegregate restaurants and the parish school system in the 1960s. Her son, Jerome, is president of the Terrebonne Parish chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

“I’ve never had no one talk to me that way, and I considered it a racial slur,” Hazel Boykin said. “I know the meaning of it; it’s just like the N-word.”

On Monday, Jerome Boykin held a news conference asking voters to cast ballots against Dartez, who faces Republican Joe Harrison in Saturday’s runoff.

“The NAACP is going to do all it can to see that she is not re-elected,” he said. “At this point, the NAACP is not concerned about the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. If a Republican is elected because of her racist remarks, that’s her responsibility.”

Dartez did not immediately return a call Monday.

“I made an insensitive comment, and I regret my choice of words,” she said Friday. “I have apologized to both Hazel and Jerome Boykin. The Boykin family has been a huge help in my campaign for re-election, and I did not mean to offend them.”

But Hazel Boykin said Dartez still has not personally apologized.

Dartez has represented parts of Terrebonne, St. Mary and Assumption parishes since 1999. She has said she does not intend to drop out of the race.

Granted, compared to his fearless but deadly leader in the White House, our governor is just your garden variety, run of the mill Republican do nothing/incompetent.

Let’s summarize his years in office.

First, he bravely took on and brilliantly solved that disastrous state flag crisis that endangered ALL Georgians.

Then he accomplished essentially zero for the next five years.

Oh yeah, he did make a slew of money with a couple of shady land deals and then failed to disclose his interest in them as required by Georgia law.

Then he prayed for rain.

No wonder we haven’t had a Republican governor since Reconstruction.

“”If you consider it a problem that multiple ENTIRE families live in single family dwellings then a moratorium on new building only compounds the problem.”“

Why?

I suspect multiple ENTIRE families living in one dwelling would still use less water. Lines for the commode. Waits for showers. Limited hot water. (my favorite - a gaggle of little kids in the tub all at one time)

Put those ENTIRE families in their very own dwelling, I posit that water usage would go up.

So how would a moratorium on building compound the water shortage problem?

On the nonexistent “War on Christmas”:

From a business perspective, why should retailers cater only to Christians instead of ALL potential customers?

And from a religious perspective, why should Christians care what RETAILERS say to CUSTOMERS about SHOPPING? If any of that has any bearing on your religious observances, you’ve got some f’ed up priorities.

ITFS,

You make the assumption that those families could afford their own dwelling, but it’s probably true that if they could afford it then water usage would increase.

Is it your brilliant idea that if we just stop building and become a third world country all our problems will be solved?

Perhaps you could spam the board with a few articles showing us how well that’ll work.

Sorry if it’s an inconvenient truth, but unchecked, illegal immigration puts a tremendous strain on our infrastructure.

No, I haven’t missed the point at all! The Christmas trees I see are decorated with a conglomeration of secular and religious ornaments. And why shouldn’t the person behind the counter at a government office say “Happy Holidays!” Any way you slice it, it’s a holiday for most individuals. RB, you have the freedom to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy whatevertheheck you wish, that’s what makes it a free country. IMHO, if anyone is offended if I say “Merry Christmas” they probably have bigger issues (I think someone else made made note of this). On the other hand, if one is offended by a “Happy Holiday” they probably have some of the same issues.

You really are a pip!

I made no assumption regarding the ENTIRE families financial situation at all. But glad to see that you agree that changing their living arrangements would likely increase water usage.

I suspect your real motives regarding multiple families in one dwelling actually have very little to do with water.

Why do you persist in making foolish and unfounded assumptions about what other people believe? Only a moron, attempting to twist another person’s words in order hide his own lunacy would make an incredibly silly statement like this ” Is it your brilliant idea that if we just stop building and become a third world country all our problems will be solved?”.

Until we improve our water situation, continued building makes life more difficult for all of us - except the developers.

Awwwww,

So I think we’ve hit the root of the “problem” on the “war on Christmas” - it’s all about money. How sad. That’s not a liberal v. conservative issue. That’s a corporate greed issue.

Retailers don’t want to offend anyone because they fear they’ll miss a sale - while seriously, most people of other religions than Christianity - at least most in the mainstream, don’t care about the controversy. They enjoy the holiday just like anybody else - at least that has been my experience - of course, can’t speak for everyone.

I work with two Muslims and they love Christmas.

But, I just got back from Sam’s where there were 6.5 foot tall Santas, Christmas music playing in full force, wreaths and lights everywhere, food aplenty (no need for lunch now!).

I know that in my family, we really celebrate Christmas, and don’t worship the retail intake of it all. Our Christmas is about parties with our friends and family and spending time together, doing extra charity work, decorating the house, baking cookies and desserts, not the merchandise.

I think it’s kind of ironic that many people gripe about this “War on Christmas” when Christ has so little to do with the holiday these days.

How many of you go to church on Christmas Eve? The Bosches do. How many go to church on Christmas Day? We do that too.

Holiday Napkin How-To 1. Using a rotary cutter, cut a 21-by-21-inch square of desired fabric. Cut across fabric at a 45-degree angle (a bias cut), being sure to cut in the direction of the weave of the fabric.

To make the napkin trim, use a grid ruler to cut 2-inch strips of your selected shiny satin, enough for 84 inches. With the right sides facing each other; take the edges, place together to form a V shape and pin. Sew a 1/4-inch seam along the pinned edge. Keep connecting strips together until you have one long strip measuring 84 inches.

Place the long strip into a bias-tape maker and pull through. Using Niagara sizing spray, press strip with iron to set a hard fold. Fold trim in half, spray with sizing spray, and press with iron to create a nice, stiff fold, which is ready to be sewed onto napkin.

Place trim around napkin and pin, making sure trim ends meet at center of napkin and leaving about four inches of trim at center of napkin. Make mitered corners and place into sewing machine. Sewing as close to the inside edge of the binding as you can, sew all the way around the napkin.

Using a pencil mark where trims overlap, place right sides together and sew seam across. Cut off excess. Flip napkin back over and finish sewing.

Download and print wishbone stencil template. Place stencil at right bottom corner of napkin. Using gold acrylic paint, stencil wishbone onto napkin. Allow napkin to dry for about 10 minutes and repeat one more time. Peel stencil off napkin.

With their orange flesh and dark-amber skin, sweet potatoes are easy to spot. They can be long and tapered or squat with rounded ends. Filled with vitamins B6 and C, as well as dietary fiber and beta-carotene, they’re a delicious alternative to white potatoes.

In the Kitchen Store sweet potatoes loose in a cool, dark place for up to 1 month. Their buttery flesh and sugary taste make them enjoyable simply mashed or baked, but sweet potatoes are also great roasted for a salad, simmered in an aromatic stew, or starring in a sweet souffle.

Cut 2 small slits in tail where indicated on the template. Secure ends of smooth yarn and textured yarn in 1 slit, and wrap entire tail with both yarns; secure ends in other slit, and cut yarn. Apply a small amount of craft glue directly onto yarn-wrapped tail, tracing the inner crescent; adhere body to tail piece. Inscribe guest’s name on the base; attach tab on turkey body to base with double-sided tape.

Mosaic Family Frames that Kids can Make.

How to make it:

Paint the frame white, repeat if needed and let dry.
Sort felt into piles by color. Glue ½” squares of felt around the outer border of the picture frame, leaving a small amount of white space between each. Colors should run in a pattern and repeat. Next, glue buttons, again in a repeating color pattern, around the border below the felt squares. Lastly, glue white wooden beads, one in each corner of the remaining frame border. Glue the brown wooden beads an equal distance away from each white wooden bead (see photo). Glue ¼” squares of brown felt in between the wooden beads, running in a straight pattern. Let dry completely and add your favorite family photo. Tips:

You can change the colors on this project to match the season or your specific décor. Use different shades of blue for an ocean theme or shades of brown for a more rustic touch. If you don’t have enough buttons, try beads or even dried beans from the pantry!

I hope I dont lose my faith as I see bloggers like getalife waste his important and precious life hacking and stealing other’s ideas and words.

Here Is The Bush Cartel Recipe For Foreign Policy, As BuzzFlash Found It In A Neo-Con Cookbook

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Here is the “Bush Cartel Recipe for Foreign Policy,” as BuzzFlash found it in a Neo-Con cookbook:

Take one part ignorance and mix it with two cups of hubris. Toss into a blender and mix slowly, as you add three cups of oil and one cup of blood. Add a pinch of vengeance (for Saddam Hussein allegedly trying to kill Poppy Bush) and drop in chopped up jello molds of France and Germany.

Remove from blender into mixing bowl larded with lies and stir at a rapid frenzy. Add a generous teaspoon of opiate for the masses. Place in rectangular tray.

Cook for 30 minutes and then decorate with red, white and blue frosting to simulate the American flag. Use little banners placed around the cake to represent multi-billion dollar sweetheart contracts given to campaign contributors — and paid for by the American taxpayer.

Add candles made from filaments of Saddam’s beard, and prepare to celebrate your triumphant foreign policy dessert, as Laura Bush flings open the White House windows and yells out: “Let Them Eat Cake!”

How the Bush Administration Changes a Light Bulb

How many members of the Bush administration does it take to change a light bulb?

One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed;

One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed;

One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb;

One to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a secret stockpile of light bulbs;

One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the new light bulb;

One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor, standing on a step ladder under the banner: Light Bulb Change Accomplished;

One administration insider to resign and write a book documenting in detail how Bush was literally in the dark;

One to viciously smear #7;

One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along;

And finally one to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country.

Bush Light Bulb Joke

Q: How many Bush Administration officials does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb; it’s conditions are improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are delusional spin from the liberal media. That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effect. Why do you hate freedom?

Dear President Bush,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. As you said “in the eyes of God marriage is based between a man a woman.” I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination… End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them.

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

Lev.21:20 states that I may ! not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He viola

Bush and Groundhog Day

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day. As Air America Radio pointed out, “It is an ironic juxtaposition of events: one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication while the other involves a groundhog.”

The Bush Stamp

The Postal Service created a stamp with a picture of President Bush. The stamp was not sticking to envelopes. This enraged the President, who demanded a full investigation.

After a month of testing, a special Presidential commission presented the following findings:

1) The stamp is in perfect order.

2) There is nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.

3) People are spitting on the wrong side

George Bush and Sex

Much has already been published about the sexual preferences and notorious behavior of former President Clinton.

However, little has been reported on the sexual practices of the current Commander-in-Chief. It has recently been learned that the President and Mrs. Bush only make love with Laura Bush on top since George W. Bush can only f**k up.

Hillary’s Deal With the Devil

Hillary was finishing up a day as Senator for New York when the Devil suddenly appeared in her office and made her an offer…

“I am here to offer you a deal,” the Devil said. “I will give you unlimited wealth, even more power, and a media that will pander to your every whim. In return, all I ask for is your soul, the souls of every member of your family, and the souls of all your constituents.”

Hillary pondered for a moment and then asked, “Unlimited wealth and power?”

“Absolutely unlimited,” the Devil asserted.

“A pandering media?” she asked.

“They’ll fall over themselves to support you, no matter what you say or do,” the Devil assured.

“And you want my soul, my family’s souls, and the souls of my constituents?” she asked.

“Yes. All of them,” the Devil answered.

Hillary was deep in thought for a moment, then finally spoke:

“So…what’s the catch?”

This blog’s commenting today is why lions eat their young. (rodney dangerfield)

But maybe you conservatives are right. Who am I to criticize your comments. I dont know why I always start picking at bloggers. Well, maybe I do know why, it’s my childhood. I had a strange experience and it’s affected me deeply throughout my entire life. The first grade was hard on me. It was a Catholic school, and nuns seems like world trade centers in basic darth vader.

One day, our class was in church attending daily mass, which was mandatory during lent. I dont know why my little friend next to me had ants in his pants that day, but soon I had ants in my pants 2. He started giggling, so I giggled. He started slapping at me, so I slapped at him. Then he would stand up, and sit down, and stand up again over and over laughing and giggling, so I followed in lock step. The nuns were sitting directly behind us only three or four pews away taking it all in. What happened next explains a lot about me. I dont know if I should share it. It’s really shocking and, well, there are children who can access this blog, and I certainly dont want to offend any religious people here who really believe in the nuns, so, I wont continue unless Glennduh (the troll) replies to this with a comment that reads, “I was a dirty bird, analchord is not grungy, he’s beachin’”

Large Fred, speaking truth to power?

BURLINGTON, Iowa — Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said “the political pendulum is swinging” against his party, and Republicans needs to work harder to win over independent voters.

“Everybody knows what’s at stake next year, but I wonder if we’ve come to terms with the difficulty we’ve got as Republicans, and the fact that we’re going to have to do a lot of things very well to prevail,” the former Tennessee senator said.

What the Republican Party needs, Thompson said, is to nominate a candidate like himself who can “go before the American people and ask for the vote of a cross-section of Americans.”

(WTF??!!)

He warned that there are a growing number of independents who are in danger of being swept up by the Democratic Party, and urged his party to “take our commonsense conservative principles and make them applicable to today’s circumstances.”

(I’d love to see what pray tell those would be!! This independent would have to be on some serious Prozac to think THIS is the guy to run the country!!))

“For a lot of reasons, (independents) don’t like the ways things are going he said.

Thompson noted that only once in the past 50 years has a party been able to elect a president of its party three terms in a row.

“The political pendulum is swinging against us. Everybody knows that the president’s numbers are down,” he said. He also pointed to the greater number of Republican seats up in Congress as opposed to Democratic seats, and said experts are predicting Republicans will lose even more control.

Amen, Large Fred, Amen.

“The Republican Party, Cleland said, will not survive a sinking economy and shifting attitudes about the war in Iraq. He urged Democrats to “take this disastrous war and this disastrous economy and give the Republicans a colonoscopy.”

“The Republicans have brought us to the brink of disaster,” said Cleland, who lost his U.S. Senate seat in the 2002 election. “You’re going to get re-elected, and your party is going to get re-elected.”

Two issues will bring down Republicans in office, especially those at the national level, Cleland said.

The former senator said he already is seeing the effects of voter rejection of Republican policies in states such as Kentucky, where a Democrat was elected governor, and Virginia, where the Democrats took control of the commonwealth’s Senate.

“In ‘08, the Republicans are all on the Titanic. The water is coming over the deck,” Cleland said.”

I agree with Cleland about this new GOP being on board the Titanic, and have said as much before.

But in their completely reality-challenged and predictable fashion, rather than taking a real close look at the impending disaster, and actually taking action to change their course, the nincumpoops simply remark about how cool that iceberg looks and keep plodding ahead.

They demand no fundamental change in their “leaders” or their failed agenda. Instead they try coyly to cloak their many mistakes and keep invoking the sacred name of Ronald Reagan in the hopes that that alone will cause their ship to somehow magically avoid the collision.

Good luck with that, soon to be drowning fools.

The college student who was told what question to ask at one of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign events says “voters have the right to know what happened” and she wasn’t the only one who was planted.

In an exclusive on-camera interview with CNN, Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff, a 19-year-old sophomore at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, said that giving anyone specific questions to ask is “dishonest,” and the whole incident has given her a negative outlook on politics.

Gallo-Chasanoff, whose story was first reported in the campus newspaper, said what happened was really pretty simple: She says a senior Clinton staffer asked if she’d like to ask the senator a question after an energy speech the Democratic presidential hopeful gave in Newton, Iowa, on November 6.

“I sort of thought about it, and I said ‘Yeah, can I ask how her energy plan compares to the other candidates’ energy plans?’” Gallo-Chasanoff said Monday night. “‘I don’t think that’s a good idea,” the staffer said, according to Gallo-Chasanoff, “because I don’t know how familiar she is with their plans.

In a separate statement in response to the campus article, the campaign also added,

“On this occasion a member of our staff did discuss a possible question about Senator Clinton’s energy plan at a forum. … This is not standard policy and will not be repeated again.”

Gallo-Chasanoff may have some doubts about that one as well.

“After the event,” she said, “I heard another man … talking about the question he asked, and he said that the campaign had asked him to ask that question.”

I think that the right ought to reconsider bombing Iran:

The leader of the Iranian delegation, Mohsen Yahyavi, stated according to the article that “homosexuals deserve to be executed, or tortured, and possibly both.”

“Minutes taken by an official describe a meeting between British and Iranian MPs at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a peace body, in May. When the Britons raised the hangings of Asqari and Marhouni, the leader of the Iranian delegation, Mr Yahyavi, a member of his parliament’s energy committee, was unflinching. He ‘explained that according to Islam gays and lesbianism were not permitted,’ the record states. ‘He said that if homosexual activity is in private there is no problem, but those in overt activity should be executed [he initially said tortured but changed it to executed]. He argued that homosexuality is against human nature and that humans are here to reproduce. Homosexuals do not reproduce.’

“Nicole Pichet, a researcher who also took notes of the gathering, told The Times that the discussion began with British MPs discussing the underage gay hangings. Mr Yahyavi responded by saying homosexuality was to blame for a lot of diseases such as Aids.”

I think that Pat Robertson and this guy coul dget along very well. There doesn’t seem to me to be that much of a differnce between a winger and an Islamic zealot we just have to get together and focus on killing the common enemies: Gay people.

After all, the gay people caused 9/11 just as Robertson said. So if we had implemented the Iranian policy 9/11 would never have happened. Say what you will about the Iranians, they ain’t liberals. They appear to be as conservative as it gets.

No soldier should have to die on the other side of the world because a bunch of traitorous neocons decided it was a good idea to send him there.

No soldier should be sent into combat under-equipped because the profits of war-profiteers are considered more important than his safety.

No soldier should return from battle in the field only to face a battle of red-tape in order to get his due after he has served.

No soldier should come home to the prospect of being homeless.

No soldier should have to beg on the street for quarters after fighting a war that cost billions.

No soldier should have to worry about how his family will survive financially, while they worry about whether he will survive at all.

No soldier should have to risk his life knowing his president will later refer to his ultimate sacrifice as just a number.

No soldier should be considered qualified to fight a war, if he can later be disqualified for access to the care he needs as a result of having done so.

No soldier should be told he is fighting for his countrymen’s rights and freedoms, if those rights and freedoms are being stripped away from himself and his fellow citizens as he fights.

No soldier should be told that he is free to fight, but not free to speak about what the fight is really all about.

No soldier should live in fear of being tortured knowing his own country has justified its use.

No soldier should be used as a political talking point, nor should his support be an empty slogan on a bumpersticker instead of the real thing.

No soldier should be used as background in a photo-op, especially by the people whose lies sent him into an unnecessary war in the first place.

No soldier should ever have to face death wondering if he is dying for his country, or for the corporate profits to be made after he is gone.

No soldier should ever have to wonder whether his fate is being determined by those reaching for a dream of future peace, or those hoping for the power and money that only the nightmare of endless war can ensure.

You were really off on leaders taking responsibility, not shifting blame, buck stops here stuff yesterday. I really thought I’d see some day-to-day consistency and read a number of headlines copied from the nonbiased sources from which you draw, all expressing outrage at Hillary planting people in the audience at her appearances, with prearranged questions on safe topics, so she could call on them and demonstrate her command of the issues.

I thought that would happen, as you’ve so often shown how Pres Bush won’t fire people who perform poorly, how he won’t take responsibility for the actions of his underlings. “I didn’t know” as her excuse doesn’t exactly give one a warm and fuzzy feeling about her ability to make sure her future press secretaries and publicists don’t put out false information, does it? Or plant stories in the media? I believe your sources have regularly criticized this administration for doing that. Heck, I even thought you and they were talking about Principles. Didn’t matter Who the subject was, it’s the Principle that counts.

Well, it seems “I didn’t know what my own organization was doing” (this from a politician with an unequalled reputation for micromanagement) is the new standard for taking responsibility.

I’d love to see Obama make a point about honesty, integrity, taking responsibility Thursday night. Kinda like his point about Hillary continuing the secrecy practices of the Bush Administration. But only Obama. Not Dodd. Or Biden. Or anyone else. Can’t have these mean men picking on the poor woman without Bill there to defend her.

Maybe she can bring her broom with her and brush them off the stage. (That was a reference to her speech a couple days ago telling women to bring their mops and brooms…).

Keep checking your websites. I’m sure you’ll find a comment critical of Hillary’s performance during this episode to link to.

{{{{Also obvious: There are fewer votes now in Congress—and less cause—to cut off funding for the war than there were last Spring. A renewed campaign on the part of the hapless Democratic leadership to cut off the supplemental funds will only increase the public sense of Democratic futility. It will also play into the very real, and growing, public perception that Democrats are too busy wasting time on symbolic measures (like trying to cut off funds for the war) and shoveling pork (the water projects bill) to pass anything substantive for the public good. Too much time, and political capital, has been wasted fighting Bush legislatively on the war. I’m sure the President and the Republican Party are salivating over the prospect that Democrats will waste more time and capital over it this month…especially at a moment, however fleeting, when the situation on the ground seems to have improved in Iraq. Democrats need to think this over very, very carefully before they proceed.}}}}

Yes, indeed. Too bad they aren’t capable of developing any thoughts.

{{{{And yet: The reduction of violence is real. The defeat of Al Qaeda in Iraq—sneezed at by some antiwar commentators—is nothing to sneeze at. The bottom-up efforts to reconcile Sunnis and Shi’ites across the scarred Anbar/Karbala provincial border, which I wrote about a few weeks ago, quite possibly reflect an Iraqi exhaustion with violence that has to be taken seriously as well. There is no question that the performance of the US military has improved markedly under the smarter, more flexible and creative leadership provided this year by General Petraeus. And the withdrawal of U.S. troops is beginning. The refusal of the antiwar movement—or some sections of it—to recognize these developments isn’t helping its credibility.}}}}

Is she such a bad candidate on the stump that they have to fake questions and attempt to intimidate and vilify national news reporters in order to keep people from discovering it?}}}}

It is great news they are drawing down to pre surge levels and they will be home for the Holidays.

Many will go back to the real war in Afghanistan. ABC had a great coverage on this real war last night. The Taliban put women and children on top of houses so we can’t engage.

They talk to the clerics after they bombed a house and the clerics claimed they killed five civilians. The Taliban hunted our troops and killed two.

It is bigger hell hole than Iraq with worse terrain and smaller platoons.

Statfor’s latest update just arrived. Unfortunately, I can’t link to it - but people can get free emails of the reports by signing up at stratfor dot com. The title is “Iraq: Positive Signs.”

Here’s the main point:

“The important question is whether we are seeing a turning point in Iraq. The answer is that it appears so, but not primarily because of the effectiveness of U.S. military operations. Rather, it is the result of U.S. military operations coupled with a much more complex and sophisticated approach to Iraq. To be more precise, a series of political initiatives that the United States had undertaken over the past two years in fits and starts has been united into a single orchestrated effort. The result of these efforts was a series of political decisions on the part of various Iraqi parties not only to reduce attacks against U.S. troops but also to bring the civil war under control.

A few months ago, we laid out four scenarios for Iraq, including the possibility that that United States would maintain troops there indefinitely. At the time, we argued against this idea on the assumption that what had not worked previously would not work in the future. Instead, we argued that resisting Iranian power required that efforts to create security be stopped and troops moved to blocking positions along the Saudi border. We had not calculated that the United States would now supplement combat operations with a highly sophisticated and nuanced political offensive. Therefore, we were wrong in underestimating the effectiveness of the scenario. “

They distinguished between “turning point” and “victory” and went in depth about Sunni-Shia-insurgency differences - and how the US had changed tactics in their interactions.

It’s been long and difficult, but it appears the US military and gov’t agencies have finally hit upon a methodology with promise. Notice how the article said “complex, sophisticated, nuanced?”

Not bad for a Commander in Chief who’s a total dunce and a moron, eh?

You are free to spout oracular, but if you try reciting that litany to any “soldier” (to say nothing of Marines, airmen, sailors) returning from Iraq, he or she will lay you flat before you can finish the recitation of your inanely presumptuous bill of rights.

Any soldier.

I recommended the book “On the Hunt” by Col David Hunt to Dusty, yesterday. I’ll recommend it to you, too.

The guy appears on Fox as a military analyst.

I’m only about a fourth through, but several themes emerge. He’s scathing in his criticisms of the Administration, military #ss-covering, civilian incompetence and self-serving politicians in the war on terror and Iraq (unnecessary and based on sheer incompetence from the git-go, he says) - hey, what do you expect from a Fox News contributor? :-)

I find some of it a bit over-emotional, don’t agree with his read of some situations - but overall, he makes you seem pretty mellow!

Dang Paul, I was just about to post that.

That’s what I like about Stratfor, they tell it like it is and admit when their predictions were wrong.

For some reason my online access hasn’t let me in today. I checked my e-mail and there it was.

IN THE NEWS 4:43 – Thanks for the post. Yes, there is no greater support of a soldier than the electorate ensuring the discretion of the commander in chief. May God forgive the snake oil consumers who make up 97% of the Republican Party. Let the other 3% put A/C in their caskets…

That’s the thing about prognosticating - events change, new elements enter in, factors respond a bit differently and give greater or lesser influence to other factors. Unlike many gov’t intel reports, they don’t hedge their bets so much you can’t tell what their analysis is.

So I see it more updating to current situations. Wrong sometimes, sure - but at least they stick their necks out.

But this new reality rather calls into question some of the Democratic candidates’ plan to - what - redeploy to other countries, or out to the hinterlands, which would remove the opportunities for direct interaction and reassurance of Sunni leaders. Now there’s another good question for Thursday night.

Shame we’ll never hear anything close.

Engaged in our own little political war on the homefront.

Paul,

That’s not the half of it. This so-called dunce and moron has been able to talk about supporting democracy AND support Musharraf. He has been able to say that regimes with dictators and WMD’s are the enemy AND support Musharraf at the same time. Pure genius!!! We will back Musharaff until ghe goes the way of the Shah, leading to an Ayatollah having hundreds of nukes capable of hitting Isreal, Greece and Australia and some will say that not going after Bin Laden in Pakistan was a good idea because of the stability it did not actually support or sustain.

This so-called idiot has overthrown Saddam at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, thousands of lives and the end result is that we found no WMD and Iran is more of a threat than when we started AND there are still people who think that Iraq was the smart move.

We have Bush and other wingers convincing us that terrorists are scarier than the Nazis and the Soviet Union. We have put a bunch of cave dwelling morons in turbans and assault rifles on par with Hitler and Stalin. Why? So that the government can take our freedoms in the name of them. Brilliant ain’t it??? I mean we didn’t tap your phone or need sneak and peak warrants or suspend habeas corpus to protect us from a country who could destroy the planet in 20 minutes but all of our freedoms are negotiable in light of terrorism. I mean this guys got 30percent of the population cowering in a closet ready to burn the Constitution so they’ll be safe and people want to call him dumb?

It took very brilliant men hundreds of years to get us to the point where the idea of Government for the people by the people and protected by a Constitution came to fruition here in this country. To unravel that in the course of less than seven years is nothing if not pure genius.

My point was, by broad-brushing an individual as entirely moronic, the American people are done a disservice. When good things happen, it’s by happenstance. Even highly complex things. When contradictions as you point out occur - most will blithely dismiss them with a “yeah, of course, whatever” rather than saying “hey, we’re doing X here and Y there - why the disconnect?” That’s how policy moves forward.

Time’s too short to address the rest of what I see as typical American arrogance in dismissing peoples of other cultures who don’t have the same ideology or armies as we do -

They cover China a lot.

Diesel-electric subs are the absolute worse to detect. More difficult than nukes a lot of times. Particularly if they lay on the bottom until ships get close.

But it also shows great advances in their vibration control. Time for a big rethink here.

IN THE NEWS:

Chesty is right. No soldier wants to believe that any of the stuff you are talking about is even possible much less true. That is the brillance of being a “war President.” And every President who wants real power should get involved with one even if you have to make stuff up to get it to happen. The reason is simple. Just look at the dynamics:

1) You have soldiers who are unlikely to want think that what they are doing is anything less than what is necesary and moral. Would you want to be thinking about politics while you are getting shot at? Would you want to be risking your life for a senseless reason? Would you want to bury your friends thinking they died for nothing? Hell no. You will convince yourself otherwise simply to protect yourself emotionally.

Do you think that your average Nazi soldier was evil or was he just convinced that his leaders were right? You have to be an idiot to think that every German between 12 and 30 was an evil psycopath like Hitler. Of course not, they were manipulated and then motivated by fear and patriotism. I am certain that your average Nazi soldier was just as kind and moral and family oriented as any average US soldier yet they did unspeakable acts for unspeakable reasons.

2) When you are the President and at war you can deflect criticism because every criticism undermines the troops and enboldens the enemy.

This is why war is good for GOP presidents and why every one since Ford has used the military in seemingly stupid and senseless missions. Its just good politics.

The power to make war is the greatest of all powers. It is the reason that all despots seek it. They want external and internal enemies. Like terrorists and liberals and gays and immigrants. This keeps people afraid. Once people are afraid then they will bend to your will. Fear and war makes money and wins elections. So what if a few poor kids’ guts and blood are used to grease that machine? I know that we wingers don’t. Never have. Never will.
