They had taken the cross from storage and a man washed it before carrying it up to the dome. A Muslim man had invited the American soldiers from ‘Chosen’ Company 2-12 Cavalry to the church, where I videotaped as Muslims and Christians worked and rejoiced at the reopening of St John’s, an occasion all viewed as a sign of hope. The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. ‘Thank you, thank you,’ the people were saying. One man said, ‘Thank you for peace.’ Another man, a Muslim, said ‘All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.’ The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers.}}}}

{{{{I am not sure of the salience of Mr. Obama’s new-generational approach. Mrs. Clinton’s generation, he suggests, is caught in the 1960s, fighting old battles, clinging to old divisions, frozen in time, and the way to get past it is to get past her. Maybe this will resonate. But I don’t think Mrs. Clinton is the exemplar of a generation, she is the exemplar of a quadrant within a generation, and it is the quadrant the rest of us of that generation do not like. They came from comfort and stability, visited poverty as part of a college program, fashionably disliked their country, and cultivated a bitterness that was wholly unearned. They went on to become investment bankers and politicians and enjoy wealth, power or both.}}}}

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.), once a skeptic of global warming, got a hint that the political winds might be shifting when a longtime supporter warned that he might vote against Inglis if he “didn’t clean up his act on the environment.” The warning came from Inglis’ eldest son, Robert Jr., now 22. His daughter was no less blunt about the congressman’s refusal to embrace the view that global warming was being caused by human actions and that a serious response is needed. “I have three more kids coming up — and they seem to share the same view,” Inglis said. Family pressure worked. Inglis traveled to Antarctica and, most recently, to Greenland to witness the effects of rising CO2 levels and temperatures. He now believes the science behind global warming. And he believes the politics are equally conclusive: Republicans will “get hammered” if they do not reckon with the issue soon.

Bush’s 2000 recount lawyer set to blast Bush in speech. Barry Richard, the lawyer who “achieved fame for his successful representation of George Bush in the Bush v. Gore recount suits, is set to give a speech blasting the Bush administration Saturday night” at the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys’ (NAFUSA) annual conference. There will also be a panel discussion featuring two of the ousted U.S. attorneys. The National Law Journal reports: “I’m sure people will see my name on the program and expect I will be defending the administration,” said Richard, a Tallahassee, Fla., lawyer. “But I’m a constitutional lawyer. I am concerned with the Bush administration’s assault on American liberties … how the administration deals with habeas corpus and the administration’s posture on electronic surveillance. This administration has gone farther than any other.”

About 175,000 Curious George Plush Dolls were recalled Thursday, becoming the latest popular toy made in China found to be contaminated with dangerous levels of lead.
Manufactured by Marvel Toys, of New York, N.Y., the Curious George dolls contain excessive levels of lead in their surface paint, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

[May 23, 2001 Bush Is Putting Team in Place for a Full-Bore Assault on Regulation…..ASHINGTON, May 22 — Across an array of federal agencies, the Bush administration has begun to make good on its commitment of broad deregulation, promoting a policy transformation long sought by the business community and opposed by consumer, labor and environmental organizations……….For instance, Mary Sheila Gall, the official selected to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has a decade-long track record at the agency of voting against proposed safety rules because she has often said that injuries are caused not by faulty product designs but by negligent consumers. Her record has attracted widespread support from many manufacturers and strong criticism from Consumers Union and other similar groups.
She has criticized the agency for promoting “a federal nanny state.” Safety experts and industry executives predict that after she takes over, a number of proposals under consideration, like one requiring flame-resistant treatment of upholstered furniture and another regulating baby bath seats, will be dropped.](http://www.nytimes.com/2001/05/23/business/23REGS.html?ex=1194757200&en=eefb71476e680342&ei=5070)

The CPSC was created in 1972 to protect the public against “unreasonable risks” from consumer products that now contribute to 27,000 American deaths and 33 million injuries a year. Even as the number of domestic and imported goods exploded, the agency has undergone drastic cuts in budget and staff — the deepest of any health and safety agency, says the Consumer Federation of America. Only 15 trained inspectors regularly monitor goods at U.S. ports, where hundreds of millions of toys — about three quarters from China — come in yearly. Fewer than 100 inspectors have to cover the rest of the country, scouring store shelves for safety problems among the 15,000 products regulated by CPSC.

There’s no evidence that KSM was “tortured severely.” He was waterboarded, once, and he talked. Like all al Qaeda terrorists, KSM was trained to claim torture if he was captured. As a senator who wants to be president, Dodd ought to take that terrorist training into account when assessing a terrorist mastermind’s claims. Jihadists like KSM are liars as well as killers. But Dodd and indeed nearly all other Democrats just take the terrorists at their word no matter what outlandish slanders they come up with. ITN, your post at 8:10 is one of the more encouraging things I have read in some time.
Similar to when I was one back in the sixties, it is many times the kids who force the stuck in the past adults to grow up and look around them without their rose colored glasses on.
The fact that most of the more intransigent neo-cons are going to get undoubtedly and rightfully “hammered” on the global warming issue from now on may cause some of the other less pigheaded ones in the GOP to finally find scientific redemption, though it may well be for political expediency only.
Their motives (and morality?) usually being suspect anyway, who cares, as long as they vote with their heads somewhere other than up their rectal cavities.

An American sea change is coming.
It is hard to find a comparable time in our nation’s history when one political party, who long ago used to be led by men of reason, vision and courage has betrayed the nation to the point where they are simply and utterly discredited on such a vast array of critical policies.
Whether it is their irrational global warming nay sayers, militaristic colonialism and the invasion happy deadly chickenhawks, those who’s fiscal irresponsibility is like a drunken sailor at the cat house on payday, countless scandal after sordid scandal, the VP’s closed door, back room deals where the dirty money absolutely flies around, attempts at turning the US Supreme Court into an anti-Roe v. Wade machine, “illegal” wiretaps, constant executive power grabs, cuddling up to the fraudulent orthodoxy in order to legislate morality, or p!ssing in the face of our international allies and friends, this “new” Republican Party is a complete travesty.

Turns out that according to Radar Online, the original report which Bathtub Boy used to write this thing which demanded that Bush go to jail, Daniel Levin did not decide that waterboarding by the U.S. is torture. He just thought we might be doing it wrong. I have very little use for most celebrity types, especially prima donna, self obsessed, incredibly overpaid egomaniacal actors/entertainers, so it’s usually difficult for me to feel sorry for one of them when they do get in hot water.
Especially if he is actually guilty of trying to stiff everyone through tax evasion.
But it is getting fairly sickening when many of the black power brokers instantly, almost automatically, ala Jackson and Sharpton, jump to the race card.

How that election represented a sea change in global attitudes, a dramatic upheaval and reversal of long-standing American ideas of cooperation and defense and restraint. Ideas that Bush & Co. has now mutated into a hollow, kill-‘em-all fake cowboy maverick attitude. An irreversable shift backward and downward. We should apologize to the World. More good news for those of us invested in getting rid of the neo-cons and the country moving forward again.
If the elections for Congress were held today, Democratic candidates would get 53 percent of the vote and Republicans would get 42 percent, according to the results of a CNN poll.
Broken down by party, GOP lawmakers received less support for re-election from the public than Democrats.
“The public seems to be concentrating its wrath on the GOP. Only 38 percent believe that most Republican members of Congress deserve re-election. But 50 percent say that most Democrats in Congress deserve to be re-elected,” said Keating Holland, CNN’s polling director.

As the Government screwsup, and wastes the vast resources at its disposal, the death of the dollar draws near. Guess what the Federal Pecker Heads will do when they can no longer just print all the ugly looking green paper they need? That is right, they will come for our assets, in the name of National Defense, or the Good of all Americans. The Washington crowd never takes responsibility for its own blunders, but they will rightously demand that we all pay the price for their screwups. It does not matter who is in power in WashingAss, Dummycrat or Repuke, the screwups will continue. My advice is not to count on the government for anything, not social security, or medicare or anything else, that way you will not be disappointed. I do advise everyone to grab social security at age 62, because each day you waited after turning eligible, you will collect less valuable dollars. The printing presses are running flat out in America, but real wealth is fleeing the country at a rapid rate. Meanwhile, here in the political blog world, the dummycrats and the repukes trade insults, while the dollar dies, and the fools fail to notice. It has been to pull our troops out of Iraq, to abandon the democratically-elected government there, and to hand a defeat to President Bush,” Mr. Lieberman said. “No Democratic presidential primary candidate today speaks of America’s moral or strategic responsibility to stand with the Iraqi people against the totalitarian forces of radical Islam, or of the consequences of handing a victory in Iraq to al Qaeda and Iran. … Even as evidence has mounted that General Petraeus’ new counterinsurgency strategy is succeeding, Democrats have remained emotionally invested in a narrative of defeat and retreat in Iraq, reluctant to acknowledge the progress we are now achieving, or even that that progress has enabled us to begin drawing down our troops there.”}}}}

Condoleezza Rice arrived in Foggy Bottom in January 2005 to a standing ovation.
With critics of the Iraq War still a marginal faction of the liberal left, the new secretary of state was an international star in an administration that had few. Supporters urged her to consider a 2008 run for president as chatter of “Condi vs. Hillary” filled the airwaves.
Three years and more than 60 global trips later, Rice’s profile has plummeted, even among the conservatives who once viewed her as their ideological savior and soulmate.

The yen carry trade is in reverse, the yen is at 110 to the dollar. Fat cat hedge funds have borrowed yen at an exchange rate of 118 to the dollar, and say 1 percent interest and purchased american assets that pay say 5 percent. Now when they repay the Yen, that only get 110 yen per dollar, losing 8 yen on each dollar, and it is getting worse. The run is about to begin, the hedge funds will be the first but not the last big losers on the end of the yen carry trade. American banks come next.

James A. Garfield?!!!
What a completely dysfunctional relationship between two branches of government.
Bush has vetoed fewer bills than any president since James A. Garfield, who issued no vetoes during his seven months in office in 1881.
Congress unsuccessfully attempted to override three of the president’s previous four vetoes.

Another of the Texas poster boys for the screw ups who hijacked the GOP.
OXFORD, England — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will capture the presidency in 2008 unless the Republican Party can rise to meet the challenge, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Thursday.
DeLay, once a pillar of the Republican establishment and still a fierce Clinton opponent, said the New York senator had the intelligence and organization to beat her Democratic rivals _ and her Republican opponents.
“Don’t kid yourself. She will be the next nominee, and if Republicans don’t get their act together _ and it is pitiful _ she will be the next president,” he told a crowd of Britons and Americans at the Oxford Union, a 184-year-old debating society.
DeLay, who resigned from Congress in 2006 amid legal and ethical problems, was in Oxford to debate the merits of a Democratic victory in 2008.
“She has, over the last six years, put together the most powerful political coalition I have ever witnessed in my career,” he said. “It’s not a left-wing conspiracy, ladies and gentlemen, it’s a smart, very impressive political coalition.”
DeLay warned that a Clinton victory would result in higher taxes and bloated government. He also said she would seek to create a British-style publicly funded health care system, a prediction that was met with thunderous applause.
“By the way, there’s no one denied health care in America. There are 47 million people who don’t have health insurance, but no American is denied health care in America,” he said to derisive laughter.

I have to say, I respect Giuliani for admitting he made a mistake in the news coverage I saw last night. I hope it was genuine - what do you think? :-)
I heard a funny line on a 30 Rock last night - something to the effect of “Hey, tell your kids that outsourcing jobs is a great thing - it means cheaper and more toys for Christmas!”
That was a pretty funny show last night, they were satirizing the global warming media frenzy - I think even our global warmer doubters may have even snickered a little. Al Gore made a cameo, he had to leave suddenly because he heard a whale in trouble - and ran off like Superman.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign on Thursday introduced a Web site dedicated exclusively to the instantaneous rebuttal of charges or news reports it deems offensive or wrong. …………………….. And the day offered a perfect opportunity for the campaign, with a potentially embarrassing mini-scandal: a waitress’s report that Mrs. Clinton had failed to tip after eating at a Maid-Rite diner in central Iowa, an assertion that ricocheted around the Internet on Thursday. …………………………. After NPR broadcast the report, Mrs. Clinton’s campaign responded by saying the candidate and her aides had in fact left a tip: $100 on a $157 check at the diner. The restaurant manager, Brad Crawford, confirmed in interviews, including with The New York Times, that Mrs. Clinton, of New York, and her retinue had indeed left a tip, though he did not say how much.

I believe Rudy is Not Ready For Prime Time or the Presidency:
His reign in New York—cutting his opponents dead while micro-managing or attacking the media as he sped off to cop shootings, fires, and water-main breaks—was all about his passions and personality. It was all dramatic persona, a governing style much closer to that of a banana-republic potentate than to your average city administrator’s.
And Bernie Kerik. There is no circumstance under which a politician with any sense of vulnerability or accountability or merely the need to maintain a sense of appearances hires Bernie Kerik —no less as the police commissioner

Looks like both Rudy and Bernie are in deep doo-doo:
Days after Bush introduced Kerik as his nominee, Kerik announced he was withdrawing his name because of tax issues involving his former nanny. But by then, state investigators were already aware of the expensive renovations done to his Bronx apartment in 1999, including built-in cabinets and a rotunda with a marble entryway. They alleged the work was paid for by Mafia-connected builders who sought his help winning city contracts.

Back in mid-2001, when Mayor Guiliani was busy committing adultery, lurching into his divorce and third marriage and rooming with a gay couple he promised to marry as soon as the law allowed, who among us would have imagined that one day he would be endorse by Pat Robertson?
Truly 9/11 changed everything.
It’s been quite a busy time for Rudy, who recently tried to establish himself as the toughest dude on the anti-terror block by making fun of torture victims, drawing the wrath of John (Actually Tortured) McCain.
You would really think that after all the trouble Mitt Romney got for equating life int he Mitt Mobile with service in Iraq, people would be a little careful about comparisons or comments about sleep deprivation while running for President.
It also gave McCain the opportunity to remind the nation that Rudy got a deferral from serving in Vietnam by convincing his boss, a federal judge, to pull strings and have him declared an “essential” civilian employee.

Well, it’s nice to know a bit of the thought process behind the “headlines.” As your selected headlines generally follow several themes, and since you rarely offer any comment on them, it seemed reasonable to assume you concurred with them.
I had this “Constitutional Rights” discussion with someone else a year or so back. While the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are universal (many here would dispute that, as our founding fathers said they were bestowed by our Creator), that’s a bit different from specific rights enumerated by our Constitution.
Without going long, chaos around the world, death, injury and increasing disgust with American arrogance would occur if Americans were to demand this.
Go to a village or city in any Muslim country and tell a woman she has a right to have an abortion. Go to one of those countries and exercise your right to stand in the town square and preach Hinduism. Let other countries know their legal system is anything but legal, as it’s based upon religious teachings. Have US businesses with locations overseas enforce hiring rights for women. Also free expression in dress and speech.
The “dismiss” was in reference to your comment about an ideology. Given the extreme, evil nature of the ideology, the government support it receives, the weaponry it has and seeks to obtain, I wondered if not “fear” - then what? Respect? Acknowledgment? Many here write about Rep politicians obtaining support through fear. So, if not fear, then what? Personally, I think “fear” is a rather inappropriate word. I’m more along the lines of grudging respect and a determination that we can defeat them (get ready for the “how do you defeat an ideology” soundbite crowd).
Now I agree with your remark about not living a fearful life. But the other extreme to me, is living a life that ignores certain realities, realities that can begin like a small infection yet, over the years, grow to become quite threatening.

When am I going to address a comment head-on? I really don’t know how I can be any clearer on some issues - I’ve found when I’ve been extremely clear with specifics I get zero response. Cutting defense budget comes to mind. So does nationalizing primary education. So does listing steps to eliminate the need for petroleum imports from the Middle East. Next time I make a comment along those lines to someone else I’ll be sure to address you in the address line, okay?
Your 10:45 headline was “Rudy Guiliani won’t say if he’d pardon Kerik as President.” It implies evasion on R’s part. I just pointed out the legal difficulties that ensue when a President comments on pending or underway criminal cases, as he has the power of the pardon. Nixon nearly blew a criminal case by making a passing comment on guilt and innocence. You know many people don’t read the articles – they glean their “information” from your descriptions.
You ask “Why would you even challenge benefits for our troops? You’re not just playing politics, your playing with peoples lives.”
Going to college is playing with peoples’ lives? LOLOLOLOL!!!!! Ummm, ITN, military have a GI Bill. WWII-era was designed for draftees. We now have a “volunteer force.” Greatly expanding the GI Bill would have the effect of encouraging people to leave the service. Uh, that’s not what the leadership are trying to encourage

More from that Collins article:
Robertson’s backing will surely give Rudy a leg up among voters who believe that God sends natural disasters to punish Americans whose school board members believe in the theory of evolution, or who have the bad luck to live near an inclusive amusement park. (Robertson warned Orlando that when Disney welcomed gay patrons it was letting itself in for terrorist attacks, “earthquakes, tornadoes and possibly a meteor”.)
Even within the ranks of the social conservatives, Robertson is regarded as over the top. Who among us will forget the time he claimed that the special protein shake he was hawking had enabled him to leg-press 2000 pounds?
Still, the endorsement must be a blow to Romney. Given the way he has prostrated himself before the right wing, renouncing every position he’s ever held, all the way down to stem cells, you’d think he’d do better.
It’s a mystery why someone as loopy as Robertson would pass up the exhaustingly virtuous family man for along time hound dog like Rudy.

Person goes back to Weight Watchers. Within a couple months the pounds start dropping. Person’s spouse says “you’ve been going to those meetings and paying for this program long enough. For months and months it was a waste. You can go to the meetings and take the medication another four months and that’s it.”
Just started reading “On the Hunt” by Col David Hunt. I’d recommend it to you. Many won’t like his assertions - he highly lambasts many of the political and military leaders - so it’s not all Bush’s fault. I know, he approves every contract for every contractor, determines the weapons loads on aircraft, micromanages changes to the logistics systems (at least, that’s what I gather here) - and you may take issue with his criticisms of many general officers, but give it a try anyhow.

Rep. Jim Saxton, the twelve-term Republican from New Jersey’s 3rd District, plans to retire after his current term, an announcement that could come as early as today, according to sources familiar with his decision.
Saxton’s retirement opens up a seat he has held since 1984 and creates another vulnerable open seat for House Republicans. President Bush narrowly carried the district with 51 percent in 2004, and Democrats had been making noise about a potential challenge to Saxton in 2008.
Saxton is the 15th House Republican to decide against seeking reelection; just three Democrats have announced this will be their last term.
The swing nature of Saxton’s seat places in it a highly vulnerable category along with open GOP seats in Illinois’s 11th Sistrict, Arizona’s 1st, Minnesota’s 3rd, New Mexico’s 1st and Ohio’s 15th and 16th.

Comments from the so called genuis Karl Rove in the NYtimes today:
Democrats had a moment after the 2006 election, but now that moment has passed. They’ve squandered it. They have demonstrated both the inability and unwillingness to govern. Instead, after more than a decade in the congressional minority, they reflexively look for short-term partisan advantage and attempt to appease the party’s most strident fringe. Now that Democrats have the reins of congressional power, their true colors are coming out and the public doesn’t like what it sees.
“The Democratic victory in 2006 was narrow. They won the House by 85,961 votes out of over 80 million cast and the Senate by a mere 3,562 out of over 62 million cast. A party that wins control by that narrow margin can quickly see its fortunes reversed when it fails to act responsibly, fails to fulfill its promises, and fails to lead.”
This from a guy who forgot that Dubya lost the popular vote by over 500,000 in 2000 and who has shown he has no idea how to govern even when his party controlled both the house and senate….

Pot Kettle 3:01
Just because the Pot’s black doesn’t mean the Kettle’s not.
From the rest of Rove’s speech:
“Congress’s approval rating has fallen to its lowest point in history.”
“In 2006, Democrats criticized Congress for dragging its feet on the budget and pledged that they would do better. Instead, they did worse. The new fiscal year started Oct. 1—five weeks ago—but Democrats have yet to send the president a single annual appropriations bill. It’s been at least 20 years since Congress has gone this late in passing any appropriation bills”
“roll back the president’s 2001 and 2003 tax cuts… Every income-tax payer will pay more as all tax rates rise. Families will pay $500 more per child as they lose the child tax credit. Taxes on small businesses would go up by an average of about $4,000. Retirees will pay higher taxes on investment retirement income. ” (Actually, I understand many Dems, like Rep Rangel, want to preserve the credits and benefits for low to middle income families)
“Democrats promised “civility and bipartisanship.” Instead, they stiff-armed their Republican colleagues, refused to include them in budget negotiations between the two houses”
Regarding the vote numbers: it’s misleading. What counts is the vote in each election for each Representative or Senator. Margins have been tight for years in many races and will likely get tighter, which is why appealing to the moderate center after running the gauntlet of special interest hyperpartisans in the primaries will be so important.

Sure, when the neo-con message was selling well (And can somebody please enlighten me, how that EVER happened in the first place?!!!) it must have been great fun for the Repubs watching the incredibly arrogant and imperious Newt, et al, running around Washington with flame throwers.
But after 40 years on the outside looking in, you THINK they would have taken their role as the majority a bit more seriously instead of just using it as a pretext to amping up the corruption and sleaze.

Like some of the more delusional here who still live in some Ozzie and Harrietville, the Republican leadership simply cannot shake off it’s new found roots of coddling dictators, like their hero Ronnie.
Nor will they voluntarily wake up and get the message that this country is a secular one and though we tolerate various religions very well, even the hateful frauds like Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, etc…, we DON”T want them bending elbows with the guy who has his finger on the button.
ESPECIALLY when the worst of these demented religious nuts, like Ms. Coulter, want to annihilate the other religions.
This seems so elementary, but this neo-con dogma just blinds the Republican faithful to the point where reason and logic are the casualties.
Not that they may have been terribly reasoned and reasonable in the first place, but this sh!t has sent them over the edge!

Bad day?
Not all weight gain, IMHO, is due to peoples’ lack of control. While research results are still out, it seems genetics plays a stronger role than once thought. (That has serious implications for the “everything’s a matter of choice and will” crowd). I believe we’ve discussed this before.
Umm, what makes you think I don’t know that? Or at least understand that? Or can see that… well, the soccer playoffs may be necessary to determine the winner, but the coaching, strategy and performance of Team X in the early rounds was pretty dismal. Hope that’s not too obtuse.
I’d recommend Hunt’s book to you, too. I’m only a few pages in, but right off the bat he said Rumsfeld should have been fired early on, Gen Franks (not Pres Bush) blew it in Afghanistan and the military and political leadership are too concerned with political correctness and careerism. Also didn’t assess early on near disasters in the military ops and put blinders on.
The guy’s a retired Army colonel. A regular on Fox news shows. You know, that network that says only good things about the administration and cheerleads for the Iraq war? (sarc, sarc, sarc).
But he then goes on to detail how to win the war on terror. Haven’t got to that part yet, but I’ve a feeling many Americans won’t want to go there.
So, are you anti all war, or just Iraq? Either way, Hillary’s gonna be a big disappointment in that regard!

Paul,
Bad week.
No, I’m not totally anti-war, if it’s necessary yes, but going into Iraq was a total failure from the beginning. We can not win with “shock and awe” anymore. It is a failed idealogue to a huge problem.
I like to think about it this way: Why did the terrorist attack us on 9/11? WHY - as Luckovich so brilliantly posed once? Think about all the reasons why that happened, and then take it from there. We are not addressing the issues of why - Israel and oil, just for starters. But, I know it’s a lot more complicated than that.
This “war on terror” is for lack of a better word on a Friday afternoon, stupid, just like the “war on drugs” was back in the 80s and 90s.
You can not fight an ideal with guns. It just does not work. We should have used our military alot more strategically - and struck in key places when we had the best intelligence. I realize people were bloodthirsty after 9/11, and going into Afghanistan was the right thing to do, imho, at that time.
But Iraq, hell no, we’ve bankrupted our economy on this war - if we’d used that money wisely, just think of what we could have actually done.
Yes, I think Madame President will be a disappointment because she isn’t much better than Bush - career politician (or has been married to one) and cares more about her lobbyist buddies. I don’t trust her as far as I can throw her and if she doesn’t quit eating those twinkies, it might be where I couldn’t even pick her up to throw her!

Lets let the Repudlickans have their way for once: Lets reduce taxes. Cut taxes. Hell, most liberals want to eliminate the IRS. Well, let the Repuclickans do just that! Lets cut taxes till there aint no taxes to collect! What’s wrong with that?
Cut entitlements? Why not. If we cut entitlements, and it leads to such a backlash that revolution seems imminent, then the GOP will be tarred and feathered by mobs. Tar and feathering is good. I’ll say it again. Tar and feathering, for lack of a better phrase, is good. Tar and feathering works. Tar and feathering motivates. Tar and feathering solves problems.
Tar…and feathering…..is…..good!

In The News
Well, I cut and pasted your 4:43 into an email for just about everyone in my address book. I’m counting it as my 2007 Christmas/Holiday card. I wonder if that makes me a Dem or a Rep?
Bosch
Sorry ‘bout your week.
I argued early on “War on Terror” was a bonehead concession to political correctness. Like calling WWII the War Against Blitzkreig. Terror’s the tactic of Islamic militants. It’s religious, it’s ideological - and it goes against our American sensibilities so we don’t want to address it. We’re much more comfortable with making excuses for our enemies and engaging in the “what did we do to upset them” routine.
What we did was, we weren’t born into their version of Islam. Simple. Notice I said “their version.” Just look at some of the black Africans Moslems being slaughtered by their Arab brethren in Darfur. Funny how that’s not reported on much.
I think guns are an element. So are sanctions, boycotts, education, diplomacy, R&D in alternate energy, etc etc.
BTW - Dick Morris - key Bill advisor in the past, can’t stand Hillary - wrote that her figure - hip region - was caused by a noncorrectable medical condition and she’s quite sensitive about it. That, combined with her husband’s conduct, must have been tough on her. Hopefully that’s all in the past.
Good weekend to you, too.

What I pieced together from the accounts is, most of the entourage was seated at the bar, Hillary was seated with two others (table?), several waitresses were serving, the bill was $157, spokesman said they left $100 tip (no wonder she needs all those contributions)and kinda thought the tip would be pooled, the waitress who served Hillary said there wasn’t a tip at her table, a campaign worker returned and gave her a $20 bill. The receipt showed no tip, couple waitresses said they got a tip, the manager said he wasn’t there.

“The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.” - G.W. Bush, 9/13/01
“I want justice…There’s an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive,’” - G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI
“…Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he’s maybe in control of a cave. He’s on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we’re going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that’s what’s happening. He’s on the run, if he’s running at all. So we don’t know whether he’s in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open — we just don’t know….” - Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool, The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on official White House site
“I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority.” - G.W. Bush, 3/13/02
“I am truly not that concerned about him.” - G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden’s whereabouts, 3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

GL 08, I’m sure that the Bush Manure Spreader 2000 would certainly hurl the dung, but those neo-con farmers using it would probably be doing so on the highway instead of in the fields!
OK, I’m outta here!
But a quick review is in order.
Most know that the bad news for the neo-cons was only going to keep getting worse and worse. And it has.
But I didn’t realize that what started out as a sprinkle not long ago has turned into a full fledged deluge so quickly.
I have never seen so much dismal news coming out regarding the out of control Republicans.
Not only is the common nonsensical Jim Wooten obviously very dispirited, the usual suspects here are running on fumes and their usually virulent diatribes are pretty half-hearted now.
And it’s still ONLY THE BEGINNING!!!
And it’s going to get much, much worse.
So this next year looks to be a real hoot!
Enjoy it neo-cons. You’ve worked hard to deserve it.

“Reached at her home in Iowa, the waitress, Anita Esterday, said that neither she nor a colleague who helped serve Mrs. Clinton recalled seeing any tip.
She said a local staff member of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign was in the restaurant on Thursday to tell them that the campaign had left a tip.

Your assumptions are incorrect. I dont care what party gets the job done as long as it gets done and that includes hunting down OBL and bringing him to justice. What you and Luckodumb and Dusty wont admit is if this was a Democratic president acting just like Dubya has the past 7 years you would be screaming from the mountian top about how it is all wrong, and if this was a Dem president i would be right along side of you screaming it to. See i dont care about Dems and GOP i care about this country. And if you cant see through your parties rose colored glasses and see that this man has wrecked this country then you are the dumbest person on the face of the earth…If you want to play the GOP card that is your fault and it shows why this country is in the state that it is in.
