Then “she” said releasing the papers was “not my decision to make.” Mr. Obama took the opening: “We have just gone through one of the most secretive administrations in our history, and not releasing, I think, these records at the same time, SHrillary, that you’re making the claim that this is the basis for your experience, I think, is a problem.”}}}}

{{{{And no, this isn’t about the sex, although the sex may also be explained by this sort of psychology. This is about the repeated, documented, casual lies — the ability to say one thing in private and the exact opposite in public, not only without batting an eye, but with an almost frightening intensity of insistence that it is the accusers who are out of line no matter how objectively accurate their accusations .Forgive the slight admitted overgeneralization, but: When our guys get caught, they often (or usually) hang their heads. Get use to it fake “conservatives”. This is just the beginning.
The American voters eagerly await next year when they can further repudiate this amazing incompetence, total lack of leadership and warped agenda.
Only the states that have an abundance of the uneducated and the most backwards leaning reactionaries - states like Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi will continue to vote en masse for the GOP and their utterly failed “policies” at home and abroad.

While the neocons fiddle around in the Muslim world murdering arabs everyday, the dollar burns. While clowns like RB and Dusty rant about the left and support the murdering of arabs, and leftie clowns like getalife rant about the right the dollar burns. While ignorant Americans play politics, the dollar denominated price of oil keeps going up. The dollar and oil are intimately connected, but a reader of the ajc only would not know this, as the ajc is such a shollow paper that secnond level connections are never made. Look what this neocon had the nerve to say in an official, on the record floor speech in the United States Senate.
{{{{{There are times when we all get in high dudgeon. We ought to be reasonable about this. I think there are probably very few people in this room or in America who would say that torture should never, ever be used, particularly if thousands of lives are at stake.}}}}}
{{{{{Take the hypothetical. If we knew that there was a nuclear bomb hidden in an American city and we believed that some kind of torture, fairly severe maybe, would give us a chance of finding that bomb before it went off, my guess is most Americans and most senators, maybe all, would say, “Do what you have to do.”}}}}}
{{{{{So it’s easy to sit back in the armchair and say that torture can never be used. But when you’re in the foxhole, it’s a very different deal. And I respect—I think we all respect the fact that the president’s in the foxhole every day. So he can hardly be blamed for asking you or his White House counsel or the Department of Defense to figure out when it comes to torture, what the law allows and when the law allows it and what there is permission to do.}}}}}

Hey mm,
At the risk of feeding the trolls, which is something I very much try to avoid here, I will, and often do, have a good laugh at their expense!
massacre - Informal: a crushing defeat, esp. in sports.
And you are correct, about the almost non-stop twisting and spinning with this odd crowd. In my experience with the extremists, I have observed frequently that they seldom, if ever, actually try to discount the main points of one’s post. In this case that the GOP has, and is further going to suffer an enormous number of electoral defeats because of their abysmal track record over the past few years.
Even the worst of the Republican worst, who ironically sent this new Republican Party careening off the tracks, like Newt, believe this to be so.
So, instead of cogently discounting the premise, some here rely mainly on childish personal insults and juvenile jabs that question people’s service to the nation or their patriotism.
Good luck with that, but I doubt it is going to help them stop the inevitable “massacre” that is coming a year from now.

“One of the most emotional moments yesterday came from Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a military lawyer who supported Mukasey but criticized his answers on waterboarding. Graham, who has frequently clashed with the Bush administration on interrogation and detention policies, said Mukasey is “a good man of the law” but also urged Congress to pass legislation specifically outlawing the use of waterboarding by all government entities, including the CIA.
“The world is not short of people and countries who will waterboard you. There’s not a shortage of people who will cut your heads off in the name of religion,” Graham said. “There is a shortage of people who believe in justice, not vengeance.”
Graham’s speech prompted Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) and then Kennedy to leave their chairs and walk over to thank him, despite his support for Mukasey’s nomination.”
With the major thupmin on w’s veto of the water bill and cheney’s impeachment, it looks like they are finally working together.

Ohio sends a nutcase to Congress in the form of Dennis Kucinich. He decides he should run the country. Most people enjoy the entertainment of the cracked Kucinich.
Then this far-afield fellow decides to impeach one of the leaders of this country. Ah yes. Cheney! Cheney who read the CIA reports and the British Intelligence Papers saying that Iraq had WMD, then said that Iraq had WMD. That is a LIE?
Now Kucinich wants to impeach Cheney for saying what the Vice-President was told as fact.
Leading Democrats tried to stop Kucinich. Pelosi, Hoyer tried to table the resolution into silence. But Kucinich got it to a vote to send it to the Judiciary Committee. Georgia Democrats Bishop, Lewis, Johnson and Scott voted for it. Some Republicans saw yet another chance to display the idiocy of the Democratic-led Congress. They voted for it with a smile.
Judicial Committee under John Conyers(D) is now wasting more time on this butterfly chase. In the meantime, no appropiration bills have come out of Congress this year. Not one.

And we have Republicans accusing those few Democrats who are willing to criticize the Leader of being on the side of Terrorists, while the media passes along those false accusations without comment and Democrats run away and hide some more, never showing any offense or anger at all from watching Republicans accuse them of treason.”

Clinton didn’t invade Iraq in 1998. Who cares what they were claiming 10 years ago. Iraq wasn’t an imminent threat then, and it wasn’t an imminent threat in 2003.
Actions are louder than words. Bush started a WAR based on weak information, who cares if it was Clinton, Kerry, or whoever who said it — they had the smarts to no INVADE IRAQ.

Hi Goldie,
I agree that some in the GOP will use their selective myopia to deny that not only is the writing on the wall, it spells out for the neo-cons a sh!t sandwich without the bread.
So essentially there are two groups in this nay-saying deniers camp.
Those are those, like some of the erudite right wingers here, who desperately try to convince themselves that their swan song is at hand. And they blather on inanely and half-heartedly about actually stemming the bloodletting in 2008.
Then are those who are only slightly more sane who lament that if only the GOP would return to it’s Ronald Reagan “conservative” roots, they would again rise to prominence.
Fools.
It was Reagan who started them down this ridiculous primrose path with his penchant for coddling any anti-Commie dictator and thug he could find, cozying up to the worst of the religious frauds and charlatans in this country (who were to ironically become the GOP’s most stalwart “base”) and to moronically try to legislate morality at every opportunity using their faux morality as a pretext.
And yet most in the Republican leadership have apparently failed to learn their lessons about the horrific results of this agenda.
Maybe after a couple of more resounding defeats, they will start getting the message.

Gold hit $836/oz as the Bush administration intensified its attack on the dollar. This President not only spends like a drunken sailor, he also conducts his wars like one.
But that’s not to say that he doesn’t have an underlying strategy. By vetoing the SCHIP bill he hopes that infant mortality will increase dramatically, primarily among minorities. This will allow public sentiment to shift to supporting illegal aliens working in minimum wage jobs simply to fill the growing demand.
Unfortunately there are fewer jobs for skilled, educated workers. As a result many bright students are foregoing higher education and are, instead, training to become survivalists as global warming, MRSA, drought, the west nile virus, ebola, pollution and chronic gingivitis are driving people further out into remote wilderness areas.

Big “Dandy”/Democrat:
(((Last November election you were in a massive state of depression. I was concerned.)))
Suffering from a “liberal” dose of projection aren’t you? If I appeared depressed (a tendency found among liberals) it was likely because of the change in seasons, not politics. I’m a big fan of “the warming cycle” which begins in May and continues through September. Your concern?
no need my friend…I can overcome all things (a trait common among conservatives) and strongly resented by liberals.
Was there a “big change” in the political landscape? ‘Ya sure could have fooled me. It’s been rather inactive from what I’ve seen in the far-left wing of the Democratic Congress. I do like what I’ve seen from some of the blue dogs though.

I sat on the steps of the Supreme Court on a hot, humid day in Washington D.C. this past summer, staring in disbelief at the protest developing around me. Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa is investigating Benny Hinn and five other television evangelists to find out if they avoided taxes on for-profit activities or used their ministries for personal gain.
All six evangelists are “prosperity theology” adherents who preach that wealth is a sign of God’s favor.
Grassley, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, said his probe was prompted by complaints from watchdog organizations that the ministers live in expensive homes, travel on private jets and engage in profit-making activities from their ministries, the Wall Street Journal reports.
While religious organizations are mostly exempt from federal taxes, they must pay taxes if they are involved in for-profit businesses, and employees can’t use church property primarily for personal gain.
Grassley’s committee sent letters to the six evangelists asking them to disclose their assets, spending practices and business arrangements, according to the Journal. They are not required to reply.
In addition to Hinn of Grapevine, Texas, the other five receiving the letter are Creflo Dollar and his wife Taffi of College Park, Ga.; Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Newark, Texas; Randy and Paul White of Tampa, Fla.; Eddie Long of Lithonia, Ga., and the Joyce Meyers Ministries in Missouri.
Ministers who are “prosperity theology” adherents say believers will reap benefits from God if they give generously to the ministries.
A spokesman for Benny Hinn Ministries, Ronn Torossian, said Hinn’s church “complies with the laws that govern church and nonprofit organizations.” None of the other five ministries responded to calls from the Journal.

Just when we need to be friends with the major oil producing countries of the world, and insignificant p** ant country of less than 10 million people has managed to gain almost complete control of our foreign policy. Did you ever wonder why the founding fathers required new immigrants to renounce their loyalties to the lands of their parents and pledge loyality solely to america? Precisely to avoid what jewish americans have now accomplished, loyalty to israel over loyalty to american. The disaster in Iraq is just one consequence of this treason. The deficit in social security almost exactly mirrors the amount of money and weapons we have given to israel over the last 50 odd years. As one of those non “conservatives” who likes guns, it is always fun to watch the keyboard kommandos here bluster about their fire power and skills.
I grew up in the Midwest and as a boy went hunting not infrequently - pheasants, ducks, deer, and in the winter, even a few rabbits.
When I got to boot camp, I noticed there were some guys, usually them city boys, who struggled a bit with weapons training and firing.
I was no marksman, but shot pretty damn accurately.
My point is that real American men don’t feel the need to carry on about how many rounds they squeeze off every day or how they feel they can protect themselves from some impending invasion of Indians, Islamonutjobs or any other hoards.
And my take on some of these “faketriot” neo-cons in regards to their weapons is that they follow their fearless leaders in Washington and practice the following:

Right this moment, guaranteed, there are a dozen customers waiting in line and maybe 1 government funded flunky dud democrat servicing the whole counter who couldn’t care less how long you sit there and wait.
Now imagine that civil service loser behind the counter being a doctor and you’re dying.
I ordered a roll of first class stamps sometime back, by the time it arrived in the mail, they had jacked the postal rates up and the roll I got was no good without putting a two cent stamp with it. I showed up in the local post office to exchange this penny ante roll of stamps, it probably wasn’t worth 10 cent to make, for a roll of new ones. After waiting in line, they heard my request and then bowed up on me. I was awestruck by this dreg of the Earth actually having the nerve to tell the people that pay their bill to be sticking a two cent stamp, so I reduced him to quivering mass of human pulp, you think I can type you should hear me talk, I told the boy all about his stake in life and his attitude playing a big part of why he was so sorry, I got my new roll of stamps.

I turned that into a enjoyable hobby. Playing with loads, weight, material and such to see how accurate the firearm is as well as to see how accurate I am. I still enjoy that hobby. Good news for America:
{{{{At 34%, Clinton’s current level of support is the lowest measured in any Rasmussen Reports poll this year. Four previous polls in New Hampshire found “her” consistently in the 37% to 40% range. This is the first poll of the race conducted since Senator Hillary Clinton’s debate gaffe concerning drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In the last poll before that debate, Clinton held a sixteen-point advantage over Obama. A month earlier, Clinton was ahead by twenty-three percentage points.}}}}

China and Saudi Arabia Are About to Abandon the Dollar Peg
Look idiots, until now, the ups and downs of their currencies have been linked to the dollar. When the dollar rose, they made sure their currencies rose too. When the dollar fell, they let their currencies fall in tandem. And even though China has let its yuan rise a tad, it’s still largely pegged to the dollar. But what country would want to tie its fortune to a collapsing currency? To accomplish that feat, they would have to stay in synch with the Fed. They would have to keep up with Ben Bernanke in the speed lane, racing forward with the zaniest money pumping and the wildest rate cutting in recent memory. And even if they wanted to, who can afford to? Not China! And not Saudi Arabia! They don’t have a housing bust. They don’t have a mortgage meltdown. Quite the contrary, they have some of the biggest booms of all time. The absolute last thing they want is to pump in the kind of money the Fed’s pumping. Instead, they will raise their rates. They will let their currencies surge. And they will set off a wave of parallel surges among virtually all competing countries in Asia — in the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia and, above all, Japan.
Bottom line …
The Fed’s hyper-injection of easy money has been like pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire. Now, with the housing market continuing to sink, it’s getting ready to pour in even more fuel … gutting the value of your dollar … but also creating a whirlwind of mega-profit opportunities for investors smart enough to get the hell out of the dollar.

How does it feel to know that you have succeeded in “my conversion”?
Here’s my problem with you AmVet. While you rant about change you do so with the same old post over and over again so your claim of being a moderate ANYTHING are false. You are a liberal through and through. Your objective here is to undermine the conservative vote through scare tactics. I like most of the choices in the GOP candidates and find them more moderate than the field of Democrats.
Your frustration is that I am not easily frightened. An ego like yours needs validation…credibility, and it’s impossible for me to give you that due to your cowardly change of names.

Oh for crying out loud raisedanidiot. You want to turn this blog into your own filthy stereotype? For your own pornographic amusement?
I gather my role in your disgusting, vile fantasy would be to point out how Buy Danish loves to play tennis and swims a lot! NUST BE LESBO. God God, I guess this means she’s some manly East German weight lifting skinny-breasted short haired freak with lots of muscles and quite possibly a p*%!$.
Well I’m sorry, Im not going to entertain your stereotypes! To me Buy Danish is a VERY feminine looking, perhaps even ravashing lady that by no means has a small bosom, who just happens to play tennis, swims and the biggest crime of all she probably spits while she plays her games and you people can’t handle anything out of your ordinary self-fullfilled stereoypical “has to be a lesbian,” so I can get a little joy and pretend companionism like fetish ringed out of my bored and miserable life.
You hate it that she spits out intelligence like a man and keeps up Un-Freaking-Believably well. Whats the matter with you people.
To me she has a sweet and gentle voice in real life that perpetuates her everlasting wisdom. Not low or by any means manly.

There’s a political cartoonist – Daryl Cagle – website is darylcagle dot com – just did an interview with an alternative weekly (LA Free Press, Village Voice, etc) cartoonist. The topic was a cartoon he just did showing Pres Bush and Jesus. It’s a good read for people who think any cartoon showing Jesus in a manner other than what they conceive is blasphemous.
Anyway, towards the end of the interview he said this:
“the very radical notion presented by the origins of Christianity, namely that the underprivileged have legitimate human value, is a hippie concept I believe to be much further to the left of anything that most liberal Democrats would want to support financially or to throw public policy behind. In that way, my championing of the victims in most everything that I cartoon aligns me much more with Jesus Christ than anyone claiming to be his critic.”
Interesting comment on his view of many liberal Christian Democrats (not an oxymoron, not the German political party).

Yes, that @@ is a feisty one. Laughably weird but feisty.
And speaking of inane claims about “moderate” Republican candidates:
Speaking at a Dallas-area church, Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee spoke about Jesus, his religious convictions, and a United States that is “the result of divine intervention.”
Addressing the congregation of the 28,000-member Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Tex., on Sunday, Huckabee — an ordained Southern Baptist minister — said his faith does not guarantee him political success or wealth, but it gives him confidence in the outcome of his life, the Dallas Morning News reported.
“If you lose everything but you still have Jesus, you have what you need,” Huckabee said. “If you’re with Jesus Christ, we know how it turns out in the final moment. I’ve read the last chapter in the book, and we do end up winning.”
Huckabee urged the church to pray for America, which he believes was not the result of “human wisdom” but instead was “the result of divine intervention.”

[[His Democratic opponent, Eaves, 41, a trial lawyer and born-again Christian, took a litany of socially conservative positions in his campaign,,,, Just goes to show, whether republican or democrat, a conservative agenda is not what America wants.]]
Or possibly it has nothing to do with “conservatism” (and I don’t find much of what he stood for very conservative) and everything to do with America is sick of politicians who will say anything, take any position, even if antithetical to their Party’s positions, so they’re finally sending those guys down to defeat?
Unfortunately, candidates who consistently state their real beliefs don’t get much traction (as Hillary well knows). I’m glad to see Obama’s getting back to straight talk – and if Edwards, Dodd, or anyone else wants to tag along, so much the better.
Regarding your 1:08 – not until we get rid of lobbyists and get full Federal funding for elections.
Bosch – AmVet
Someone earlier linked to a pretty good article regarding Sen Grassley. The law’s pretty clear – what can and can’t be done with these preachers – and if they violate it, then go after them (although the IRS is quite competent, but Hearings seem to be all the rage these days). IF these guys say “send money, we’ll set up missions” and mislead to get rich, then they can be hammered under current law. If, however, they just say “send money” and are up front about what’s gonna happen with it, then to me that falls under the category of “people should be able to waste their money any way they see fit.”
I get a tad nervous when gov’t begins to determine an appropriate income for nongovernment workers. Speaking of which, notice how (not trying to change the subject) no one’s ever addressed what salary levels would be for medical practitioners under a single-payer health care system?

It’s whatever you want to see. Nothing “right” or “wrong” here.
It’s coming up on Thanksgiving, hence the Pilgrim/turkey portrayal, which gives L the opportunity to portray Pres B as a turkey (turkeys have ears!). The Pilgrims (Dems in Congress) were supposedly in charge - they caught the turkey, eviscerated it, cooked it and ate it (I know, there was probably no turkey the first “Thanksgiving” but stay with me, here).
Instead, what we see is the turkey’s in charge, directing the Pilgrim chorus who, despite all their protests, complies. With a bunch of nonsensical blather. And that segues into the candidates…

I won’t tell you who or where he is though because you’ve gotten lazy evidenced by your redundant scare tactics. I will however, contribute to a brief discussion on Rudy and gun-control.
(((“I’m an average hunter, and I am curious what your stand on gun control is,” Micola said.
Giuliani, a longtime supporter of gun control, smiled.
“You’re an average hunter: Does that mean you’re not, like, all that good at it, or that you don’t do it a lot?” he asked, to the roars of a crowd of about 200.
“I’m a nature walker with a gun,” Micola replied, to even greater guffaws.
“OK, let me ask you three questions: How old are you?” “43.” “OK, do you have a criminal record? “No.” “Do you have a … mental history?” “No.” “OK, you’re OK!” Giuliani replied.
From there, Giuliani went on to explain that while the Second Amendment allows limited gun control, it also guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. “I will respect that,” Giuliani said. Just that easily, Micola was sold. “I was undecided, but now I’m voting for him,” said
Micola, who is from nearby Nashua. “I like everything he stands for. The only thing I was concerned about what his stance on gun control, and now he’s answered that.”)))
That’s ^^^ my man Rudy…he’s scary huh? I’ve heard he can be when he wants something badly enough. It’s gonna be fun watching him take on Hillary. I’ve read where he can be vicious and with a smile on his face too.

I can see your point about people can throw away their money if they want, but some of these televangelists and megachurches just seem criminal to me, but yes, that’s my own opinion. I’m completely ignorant of the law concerning churches. I have a really huge problem in general with megachurches, and the such.
I know, I know, you all must be so shocked to hear me say that.
Then again, there are some charities that I’ve given to before only to find out about 5% of the money actually goes to the person/cause in need.
Megachurches and televangelism are kind of like hunting and shooting things, I don’t understand it, don’t see how people can do it, but I know there are plenty of people that do it, love it, and it works for them, and — to each his own.

There’s a younger guy -Joel Osteen - with a huge church in Houston - started by his dad - I believe his denomination is Baptist - altho you’d never guess it listening to him. More like Unity, Religious Science or New Thought.
Anyway, there was a piece on him (60 Minutes?) that was pretty revealing. When his book became a best seller he stopped taking a salary - said he didn’t need it. When he heard of Billy Graham’s transparency with financial records - way above and beyond what’s IRS-required, he said “we’re going to start doing that, right now.” I recall that as their church grew they updated their plans for how the funds would be used for education, assistance, missions, etc.
So yeah, I do view some of those guys as get-rich-quick types who use religion as a vehicle to fulfill their selfish aims. And plenty of people seem willing to support them. Then there’s people like the guy I wrote about, seem to be pretty level-headed, believe what they say, try to live what they say. More power to them.

All sorts of groups support all sorts of other groups to which they’re philosophically opposed. It’s the nature of our system.
But one thing you can be sure of - the extra income gained thru taxing religious entities wouldn’t really make all that much difference in the long run. Gov’t will spend whatever it gets - and then some. The appetite is voracious, unending and expanding. Gov’t spending - be it on programs or redistribution of income - will continue to increase as politicians “discover” new ways to source “income” - witness both Obama’s - then Hillary’s tag - to “fix” Social Security by removing the income ceiling subject to tax. Nothing about other changes in the system - even a modest six months or a year delay in obtaining benefits - just a “plan” to bring in more revenue.
I do agree with your assessment of some overseas products. Actually, my “stop buying this because of the price increase” was just a passing, silly comment. When my wife asked “you paid HOW MUCH” for that shaving cream?” (It was more point of interest than accusatory. I don’t spend all that much on hobbies). I pointed out it was less than one of her bottles of shampoo (I survived that explanation intact). And also noted the tub lasts six months. So it’s not all that onerous.

Wow. Things must be looking dim for the Dems. 10 posts about me and I haven’t said a word.
Until now.
Fake waterboarding update.
I wonder if someone paid these jackasses, if this was volunteer work, or if they were just trying to round out their resume’s.

You covered your a-ss now.
Anyhoo, he is a disaster not worth talking about.
Tomorrow, rudy’s other BFF who he wanted to run DHS will be indicted.
Yea, run rudy.

Less government AND fewer neo-cons? Now that is an exacta for all Americans!
As for ostriches delaying the GOP body count, someone should read the papers once in a while.
It started an entire year ago and is now in full swing!
And I for one, am going to savor every last nail in the neo-con coffin.
Paul,
Some might, but not me. I see it as sheer desperation and nothing else. Granted the guy did come around about man-induced global warming but if you were to take all of the despicable things he has said in his life you could fill a small book.
To me he represents the worst of the worst, all the while smiling and telling me how much he cares for my soul. No thanks.

Legalize it before the last call though!

AmVet - raisedanidiot
In all seriousness -
If you’re concerned regarding the beliefs of some evangelicals/fundamentalists (don’t mean to lump them together, just referring to similarities of beliefs), especially given views of how the earth will “end,” views of inevitability and how horrific events can actually be for the greater good -
then just consider the lack of political mechanisms they have to “help along” their view of what will be -
then do a bit of research on Ahmadinejad’s religious views, then consider he, and the mullahs from whom he derives support, have a view of “we’re here to push along the inevitable, be an integral part of it.”
The link below was not sourced for any reason other than it was the first Google hit that summarized nicely. Again, take the farfarleft’s worst fears about Pres Bush and the religious right (not the realized fears, but the unrealized “yeah, but, what if they did what they wanted and plunged the world” fears - then compare to Ahmadinejad’s.
One makes for political back and forth (for pete’s sake, Pres Bush has had seven years to initiate the Apocalypse, only a year left!) the other makes for serious concern.
All the more reason to support moderate, dissident groups in Iran.
BTW - I’m not aware of any campaign where a citizenry subjected to aerial attack and deprivation ever turned against their government. In the words of one (speaking of a county under full assault): people who had been subjected to the most horrific deprivations rose up to defend Mother Russia when Hitler attacked. They did not rise up to defend Josef Stalin.

Getalife,
I didn’t know you were beating your wife, err, lap dancer either.
There have been exactly 3 instances of waterboarding being used as a form of aggressive interrogation. One we know was with the mastermind of 9/11.

I mentioned the other day that according to a panel of “experts” I listened to the number subject to waterboarding was less than a few dozen. Done in situations of extreme oversight. In the past few days I’ve heard that clarified to less than a handful.
I know, I know, it’s the principle, not the numbers, and some will protest even one is one too many.
But you should know there is an alternative to waterboarding that could be proven to be quite effective:

Here’s a review of a book written by the Dems star witness, Malcom Nance.
Woops.
Based on four years of field combat analysis, this authoritative study reveals how Saddam prepared for defeat to recreate the 1920 Revolution and how Osama bin Laden received his greatest gift, an American occupation in historic Arabia.
Bin Laden must really hate getting presents because he (or his representatives) are squealing like stuffed pigs right now.

What the fair Buy Danish fails to realize is that waterboarding is a political issue, and thus belongs in the political arena. Politics is posturing. Waterboarding is another Rovism that distracts everyone from the Iraq War, which we will never finish. We’ll be there in 2108.
Iraq is the New Alabama, our 51st state. We may as well swear them all in as citizens now.
This wasn’t in the brochure. Whatever money we had for healthcare and social security and safe bridges and clean water is in a hole in the sand in Iraq. That’s it. Nobody needs to blog another word about anything.
Iraq has been a trap, using sticky oil as bait, for any and all superfly world leaders for one hundred years. Till now, only Churchill was dumb enough to fall for it, and he barely got out of there.

Paul,
I believe that taxing religious entities WOULD bring in significant revenues at the local, state, and federal levels.
The Roman Catholic Church has trillions of dollars invested in stock and bonds. They have billions in property. Taxing them on interest, dividends, donations, bequeathments (sp?), property/ad valorem taxes, etc. would be a good place to start.
You are correct that gov’t will spend everything it gets. However, that is a separate problem that should be addressed separately.

Listen to the Frenchie, talking more like an American than any Code Pinko ever has:
{{{{America did not tell the millions of men and women who came from every country in the world and who—with their hands, their intelligence and their heart—built the greatest nation in the world: “Come, and everything will be given to you.” She said: “Come, and the only limits to what you’ll be able to achieve will be your own courage and your own talent.” America embodies this extraordinary ability to grant each and every person a second chance.}}}}
Those jackas-ses in Congress were probably bewildered by what he said, can’t you just imagine, “what does he mean everything won’t be given to our lazy, no account, shiftless sorry as-ses?”
“Who the F is he?”

Excellent point about the likely amount of revenue - especially when the base is defined as including property, buildings, etc. But if one included endowments, etc, well, a number of educational institutions, medical centers and research arms, charities operating primarily overseas in depressed areas, likely won’t be thrilled to see their revenue decreased by a large chunk.
I don’t think the “problem” of gov’t spending will ever be adequately addressed. Not as long as one party pays off business supporters, the other party scores points by lambasting them for it (then turns around and quietly does the same); while for many politics consists of “who will bribe me the most?” (fill in your special interest, social, or business group) and people see government as divorced from themselves, not “of the people, by the people, for the people” - but as a separate entity, not supported by their taxes, whose purpose is to give them stuff.
Whew.

Ol’ Bosch the conundrum. Likes Carter when he’s calling this administration all sorts of names but hates name callers.
Thinks Jimmy was president at the wrong time but wasn’t a good president just a good guy. Wouldn’t it be great if presidencies could go off without a hitch?
That would be so cool, but only in Bosch’s utopian world.
Jimmy Carter never met a dictator he didn’t like.
