Look at the only Iraq benchmark the Atlanta Urinal Constitution can manage to find:

{{{{GI fatalities in Iraq near worst year-Urinal}}}}

Cherry picking through the data until they find something that is wholly out of context but fits their nicely into their anti American propaganda.

Civilian deaths are down, terrorist attacks are down, GI’s are dying at the lowest rates in years, there is a countrywide reconciliation effort underway that will soon bring an end to sectarian conflicts,.

Do you EVER hear anything good about America in the AJC?

~~~~~~
{{{{Adolescence didn’t vanish; it triumphed. The “never trust anyone over 30” generation became the generation that insists that everything is due them once they’re over 60. They’ve replaced the illegal pot that eased the psychological pain of growing up with prescription drugs that assuage the aches of growing old. P.J. O’Rourke in the Weekly Standard writes only half in jest of the coming drain on Social Security: “How can present Social Security allotments be expected to fund our sky-diving, bungee-jumping, hang gliding and white-water rafting…….}}}}
I wish I could post this whole article:
The political implications are immense. Expensive braces to straighten crooked teeth are cheap compared to the cost of the new hips, knees, arteries, hearts, lungs and kidneys that will have to be covered by taxpayer contributions to Medicaid and Medicare. But better, in their view, paid by the taxpayer than the affluent boomer. When Hillary Clinton was overheard by a reporter to say that she would ask wealthy Americans to pay more in payroll taxes to save Social Security, she quickly retreated to cover in the dimly lit cave of “fiscal responsibility.” The free lunch has become the free dinner at the gourmet restaurant.
{{{{ After months of questioning whether the Bush administration fired nine U.S. attorneys who were not “loyal Bushies,” Democrats said the cases provide strong evidence that some government lawyers may have done the White House’s bidding. In a motion submitted late Friday, attorneys for Wecht asked U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab to rule on whether Republican U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan targeted Wecht because he is a Democrat.
{{{From the Atlantampon Jejunal Constipation - One year before they go to the polls, Georgians have opened their wallets to candidates for the White House in unprecedented fashion. But unlike in years past, residents of the red state have given a majority of their cash to Democrats. Contributions funneled to the Democratic field from Georgia — Barack Obama has raised more than any other candidate — are twice what they were at the same point four years ago, and five times larger than they were in the fall of 1999, according to new Federal Election Commission figures}}}
However, there are scores of Foreign Service employees serving in Iraq right now and it’s sure that they would prefer to be back in Foggy Bottom. I have as much confidence in any of the Repug hopefuls to lead our country as I do in the Falcons winning the Superbowl this year.
They’re all a bunch of losers, and that’s a fact.
Bush’s dreams of the spread of democracy in the Islamic world seem to have taken a sizable hit with the decision of his buddy in Pakistan to suspend the country’s constitution…
While I feel that it would be very difficult if not unwise to remove all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan at this point, I blame Bush and all his idealogue neocons for getting us into this mess in the first place and making stupid decision after stupid decision in the prosecution of the wars.
The Catholic Church has a process for declaring a holy person a saint called “canonization”. I wonder if they have a similar process of “demonization”. Certainly Cheney would qualify, but Bush would probably only qualify for “imp” status, since old Scratch probably couldn’t find anything Dubya would be capable of doing.
It’s way past time for planning a phased withdrawal of our combat troops from Iraq — that’s the only way that the democratically elected gov’t will begin making the hard decisions about controlling the future of their own country! Ms. G, Once again, you’ve ignored FACTS and let your Bush HATING simple mind get in the way of reality. The US Military votes R. Look it up, sweetie. I shared the numbers with you a few days ago, but, as usual, you ignore the facts and repeat LIES until you actually believe they’re true.
Question for you two faced libs… If the KKK holds a debate, would your D candidates attend? We know Robert Byrd might, but would the rest of them? Having a “Black” sponsored debate is no different than a KKK sponsored debate. Both groups are promoting a group of people based only on the color of their skin. Both are WRONG. Both are racist. There is no difference. Nobody should attend either of them.
Good luck with those FACTS, Ms. G!!
Saturday made me feel real nostalgic.
Switching from daylight savings time to standard time made me remember when this country had a Congress that worked. A congress that tackled the tough issues of the day with intelligence. A Congress that got things done. Results.
It was a Republican Congress that delivered us from those excruciatingly high oil prices. Their masterful stroke of genius hit the problem of rising oil prices head on. Extending daylight savings was a great advancement that brought us freedom from the Islamoilists.
The new Democratic Congress has let us down yet again. With oil almost reaching $100 a barrel they had a chance to do something about it. Something that could have lowered our gas bills. They could have extended daylight savings again but chose to do nothing. Remember when this country had an energy policy? Hello $4 a gallon gas.
Oh, the memories.
Great toon, ML.
Speaking of race relations in this country, did anyone see the CNN special, The Noose, An American Nightmare?
Though some of the worst of the bigots, especially here in the deep south, would like for such programs to never be shown, the rest of the nation, particularly the hated liberals, moderates and progressives know that education and information are the keys to changing the world for the better.
And this history of lynchings and murder is one of the numerous disgusting aspects of the anti-liberal mentality that needs to be constantly exposed.
Does anyone truly believe that many of these southern “conservatives” have changed THAT much?
Now it is homosexuals and Muslims instead of blacks and Jews (at least overtly), but make no mistake about it, the hate-filled agenda of these “Christian” extremists is still the same, only the faces of those targeted have changed.
BTW, do you think Fox News would air such a program?
Not likely.
He called Christianity one of the great “scourges” of history, and said of the Germans, “Let’s be the only people who are immunized against this disease.” He promised that “through the peasantry we shall be able to destroy Christianity.” In fact, he blamed the Jews for inventing Christianity. He also condemned Christianity for its opposition to evolution.}}}}
{{{{If Nazism represented the culmination of anything, it was that of the nineteenth-century and early-twentieth century ideology of social Darwinism. As historian Richard Weikart documents, both Hitler and Himmler were admirers of Darwin and often spoke of their role as enacting a “law of nature” that guaranteed the “elimination of the unfit.” Weikart argues that Hitler himself “drew upon a bountiful fund of social Darwinist thought to construct his own racist philosophy” and concludes that while Darwinism is not a “sufficient” intellectual explanation for Nazism, it is a “necessary” one. Without Darwinism, there might not have been Nazism.}}}}
We always stuff the bird for Thanksgiving, and roast a few extra breasts for the Turkey sandwhichs from hell later.
The plain breast meat wasn’t as flavorful, so now I just take a handful of lump sausage, some sage, a cut onion, salt and pepper to taste and stuff it between the breastbones and toss it in the old weber kettle. (in a pan to save the drippings of course!)
Mrs. G. and Midori,
Is it just me, or do you find this statement odd?
“When you can’t make a valid point supported by facts, you change the subject and start calling people names.”
This coming from a person who has called Mrs. G. “stupid,” “not very bright” and a “liar.” (and by the way, can’t figure out a “post” button).
Then changed the subject himself to include quotes from television comedians? I mean, we all know how credible television comedians are, and we all take them so seriously /sarc/.
He did it a little bit different than his statement above: he started off calling people names, couldn’t make a valid point, and then changed the subject.
I guess he’s still trying to figure out how to compare the old apples to oranges. Well, they are a fruit and all, but that’s about it. Military recruitment and military voting both have the word “military” in the phrase, do you think that’s where he got a little confused?
Yummy indeed, Mrs. G., Thanksgiving is coming up and I love different recipes instead of the same old boring turkey. Yuck.
Where are the gop on giving $ 11 billion to another ME dictator?
The Clintons:
“Part of the reason that we’re in this very difficult and dangerous situation is because of the failed policies of the Bush administration,” Clinton told reporters on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River.
She said the administration has diverted resources and attention away from Afghanistan, ignored her suggestion to appoint an envoy to deal with border issues between it and Pakistan and has “sent mixed messages over several years now to President Musharraf that has rendered our policy toward Pakistan fundamentally incoherent.”
This man claims that a debate sponsered by black people that addresses “black issues” is the same thing as a bigoted, horrific group like the KKK who have murdered hundreds over the years having a debate to discuss “white issues”. RB, I know you are white. I know that when a minority group holds a debate and your party doesn’t attend (because your party ignores this minority altogether) it scares you and makes you feel, even for a moment, like you might be part of a racist party. React like a man. Don’t act like a weak child. You know that a debate held by the KKK is NOTHING like a debate held by a minority group who addresses still racist notions like the voter ID bill etc. Get a brain, or rather, get a pair of balls.Good day sir.
By Rudy 11:35 AM So, would be ok with you if we start having “Miss White America” pageants and the NAAWP? Then we could have the NAAWP hold a debate that focuses primarily on the issues that affect white people. Would that be OK, or would you consider it racist if white people did that? Oh wait, you already anwered that with your comments about the Klan.
So tell me, how is it ok for there to be a group focused on the issues for black people, but not for white people? Isn’t that a bit hypocritical of you?
As I said before, both are WRONG. And until we stop promoting 1 group over the other, the divide will never end.
And what exactly is wrong with “your party ignores this minority altogether”? Why not ignore the color of their skin and treat them as American people instead of a special class in need of special treatment? Isn’t that what MLK preached? So why is their skin color still so important to you?
“U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold launched over the weekend a new campaign to block approval of President Bush’s nominee for attorney general, retired Federal Judge Michael Mukasey.
He is expressing forcefully the need to stop this nomination which goes to a vote on Tuesday:
“Democrats can no longer be a part of the savaging of the U.S. Constitution,”
And this:
“At this point in our history,” explained the chair of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, “the country also needs an attorney general who will tell the president that he cannot ignore the laws passed by Congress. Unfortunately, Judge Mukasey was unwilling to reject the extreme and dangerous theories of executive power that this administration has put forward.”
The dems will cave as usual and there is a thing called a hold.
Anyhoo, the corruption Edwards is talking about is in both parties. Talk is cheap and action is expensive for their campaigns funded by the lobbyist.
It is great to hear Edwards and Paul talking about a broken government. I am cheering them on.
RB,
Just to ask, have you ever read anything about how the Miss Black America pageant got started? As I understand it, black women were not allowed to participate in the regular Miss America pageant, and they started it as a protest to that rule. So, in other words, the Miss American pageant for a time, WAS the Miss White American Pageant.
If there were a NAAWP, what would those “issues” be that affect only white people? Or rather, how are white people oppressed in this country? The NAACP was founded and still exists today to ensure racial equality for minorities.
I agree with you in respect that we should not promote one group over the other, and we should all be treated equally, and the color of our skin should not matter one bit, but you are extremely naive if you think that rascism does not exist today.
A history lesson for those dipsh!ts with their heads WAY up their white Christian a*******holes.
The murderous Klan promotes the most Nazi-like and venomous racial superiority and complete illegal intolerance and hatred. Oh yeah, and lest some conveniently forget, they lynched, brutalized and burned alive hundreds perhaps thousands of innocent people, including children, the last of which was a mere 26 years ago. They are without a doubt, the very lowest scumbags of all Americans, if not human beings in my opinion.
And for ANYONE to equate them and their goals with ANYBODY else is the most ignorant, hateful, stupid thing I’ve read here. EVER. EVER EVER.
RB,
I get your point, I respectfully disagree. Rascism and discrimination still occur in our society, and if you don’t believe it, you are, as I mentioned earlier, very naive, or you choose not to see it.
I happen to believe in individual responsibility, I do not believe in making excuses for your life sucking (because that is really all relative to begin with) but some people have it a little more difficult.
Have you ever personally been discriminated against, not some imaginary discrimination of the blacks getting the whites jobs, but personally discriminated against - because of your race, religion, gender, name, country of origin, anything? Ever been called a Nazi?
“I’m discriminated against every time a black person is hired to meet affirmative action objectives.”
I must confess, that comment makes me speechless.
I guess you forget the YEARS and YEARS of discrimination blacks and women faced in this country. You think we should all just get over it and move along, but that is very easy for a white man who has experienced no or very little discrimination in his life to say.
It is ideal, of course, but it is not a reality when you have groups of people who still feel discriminated against with legitimate and real reasons.
Have you personally ever lost a job to a black man or woman? If so, how do you know it wasn’t because they weren’t the more qualified applicant?
about affirmative action,
I always used to think about affirmative action as a race based preference program, basically allowing less qualified applicants a position based upon race. After actually talking to someone who has benefitted from affirmative action, the basis of the program was not to allow less qualified applicants a position, but to protect qualified applicants from discrimination.
The issue had been demonized due to tactics similar to the “cadillac welfare mom” stereotype. by heaping false anecdotes upon the program, and by finding a few examples of abuse, the entire program is discredited.
I think it is worth noting that especially in cases of governmental intiatives, that because abuse happens, it does not negate the net positives of a program, it just requires more oversight. All programs are abused, medicare, medicade, tax breaks, schip… but an abuse does not negate the overall benefit.
I saw him in person at Bagelicious on Johnson Ferry Road, and he was acting all suspicious and looking guilty and everything. He made me sick to look at him.. He was slouched and he kept looking around the room as if to see if anyone recognized him and maybe people would shout, “THERE HE IS!” and start chasing him with pitchforks, shovels, and torches, like they done Frankenstein.
He was so guilty. And it showed. Murder shows. It’s in the eyes, it really is. Murder will out.
Leave it to the single most reprehensible and discredited blogger, once banned here for months (look it up), Curly, to “interpret” my disdain for the supporters (like him?) of murderous racial white bigots including his forebears as a play for Democratic votes.
Left to these sleezy “pretend there is no bigotry in this country” idiots and “the Klan’s OK” “conservative” southern scumbags, things would be no different in America than they were fifty years ago, when pure as the driven snow (BARF!) Christians like Andy I’s dad from Marietta and Andy II’s dad from Loganville could drink from a Whites Only water fountain.
But just like on every other modern American battlefront though, these tacit and now impotent racists have been over powered by people with actual morals and so have lost their capacity, in spite of their blood lust, to keep THOSE people down.
And they are highly p!ssed! So angry in fact, that they absolutely loathe the liberals who came down here uninvited and helped make that second emancipation happen. And also, in doing so, exposed them as the mindless, uneducated hicks and cowering cross burning cretins they are to this day.
And notwithstanding these few terribly malformed apples, who are still an embarrassment to the otherwise good people of Georgia, many have learned from their bigoted heritage and fundamentally changed.
These other miscreants can screw themselves or their first cousins, for all I care.
Been There Done That, there’s a famous line in the movie Bull Durham - “Don’t think Meat”.
A Democratic bigot is no different than a Republican bigot to me or most I would suppose. But for you? And it probably does explain why so many of the old southern bigoted Democratic guard switched to the GOP, in the past two or three decades, no?
But thanks for playing…
No, sir, amwet, that is a bumper sticker that has no meaning, and by no meaning, I mean that every person that reads that lame phrase has a unique opinion about what it means.
Support the troops? Dont support the war? How about we shut up and just go shopping or watch tv and maybe people will see that we’re not worth attacking and everyone will just go home. By invading Iraq, we have been forced to accept total war to the finish with not only al QUeda, but with like 800 other tribes and sects and the devil knows what. We will never know peace again because of that idiot in the white house and bloggers like you.
{{{{By AmVet November 5, 2007 5:10 PM Leave it to the single most reprehensible and discredited blogger, once banned here for months (look it up), Curly, to “interpret” my disdain for the supporters (like him?) of murderous racial white bigots including his forebears as a play for Democratic votes.}}}}
Are these not the things that your common everyday stalker would write down and memorize?
Geez, what an obsessed loser, only a pompous moron could take themselves as seriously as this DimWet does.
Simple indisputable facts:
1) The Republican Party freed the slaves.
2) Al Gore senior, democrat, and most of his cohorts voted against the civil rights act.
3) Ku Klux Klan Grand Kleagle Robert Byrd is a democrat senator.
4) democrat senator Joe Biden said that the reason scholastic test scores in Washington D.C. were so low was because of the minorities.
5) George Bush has placed American foreign policy into the hands of one of the most capable, distinguished women in the United States, a woman that help destroy the Soviet Union, and liberals can do nothing but insult her, denigrate her, draw racist cartoons of her, compare her to a house slave.
6) Liberals make wonderful promises to the blacks every year around election time, that they always forget to carry through, and then spend the rest of the year telling them scare stories about Republican skinhead racists, racists that they never seem to be able to show us, and what has this gotten the blacks?
Mired in unrelenting poverty?
No, little obsessed with Andy’s punk boy, you are the racist, not me.
Amvet, you’ve got a bit of a comprehension problem there don’t you? I don’t see anywhere in today’s posts where anyone says anything close to being racist on behalf of R’s, yet you keep going off on them for it? I think I made it pretty clear to any reasonable thinking person that racism is wrong REGARDLESS OF THE COLOR OF THE SKIN OF THE PERSON DOING IT. What is so hard about that for you to understand?
Slavery was wrong. Separate facilites was wrong. Making any provisions of who gets or does what based on the color of their skin is wrong. You agree?
Get off your high horse and pay better attention. You’re making a fool of yourself here more than usual.
There are anger management classes AmVet. Why don’t you check into one.
RB,
I think your point is generally genuine, but horribly misguided. In an ideal world, your point would be the general rule, but we don’t live in that world.
I don’t think you are overtly rascist, but you are obviously uncomfortable with people who think different from you.
I think the bigger problem these days is that many seem to be uncomfortable around anyone who is different than them, be it race, ideaologue, religion, or political party.
I think it’s easy to make sweeping generalization and forget that those people you are making the negative assumptions about are human.
Like RE said, he used to think affirmative action was not such a good idea until he actually met a person who benefitted from it. It’s easy to make these assumptions about a program or an idea when you have no experience to the contrary.
Larry David was funny last night. His show has definitely lost it’s edge, though. There’s no question who the genius was behind Seinfeld. Seinfeld’s bee movie proves he’s a hack.
Did you know that Seinfeld and David had to split New York City into 2 pieces because their acts were so similar. It’s basically Larry David. The approach. Seinfeld delivers better in straight standup, but in a sitcom, the camera definitely loves David the best.
Larry David is the new clown prince.
Bosch:
Are you kidding me?
(((I think it’s easy to make sweeping generalization and forget that those people you are making the negative assumptions about are human.)))
What is it you have said in the past about evangelicals? You, yourself tend to generalize on that particular group and have confessed to your own prejudices.
You’re quite the conundrum Bosch.
Great Cartoon today Mike. The Afrocan-American constitchuency is just but one group of voters that I’ve worked hard to alienate as your Commander-N-Thief. I’ve also worked hrd to alienate Hispanic voters, female voters, gay and lesbian voters, independent voters, fiscal conservatives and child voters. Okay, I’m being told that childrens kan’t vote, but if childrens could voat they’d be alienated, to. By Novimber 2008 with the religious wingnuts threatenin to sit out if Juliani is the Republicon nomin-knee the only depndable group of voters that the gop will be able to count on to show up to the pols and not vote for Hitlery, I mean Hillery, will be loyal neo-con Bushies whose bank accounts are depending on me to go into I ran.
{{{{The people of Pakistan are also discovering the cost of “blowback.” Their entire state is consecrated to the idea of Islam: It is one of the first countries to have its very nationality defined by religion. But there are those for whom a mere state for Muslims is not enough and who insist on something quite different, which is a purely Muslim state. Gen. Pervez Musharraf used to flirt with these forces, as did Gen. Zia and as did (though she now prefers to forget this) Benazir Bhutto. The groups that used to be Pakistan’s proxies in Afghanistan are now waging war on the streets of Pakistan’s cities and in the mountains of Pakistan’s frontier provinces. They are blowing up Shiite mosques, killing the doctors and nurses who try to administer polio vaccine in rural areas, and forcing women and girls back into the role of chattel. For them, nothing will do but the reimposition of seventh-century mores and the re-establishment of the caliphate. It is idle to think that “we” created this gruesome phenomenon and idler still to imagine that there is any possibility of our compromising with it.}}}}
This is Bush’s fault?
Not.
(((What you forget, I have personal experience to base those negative feelings and prejudices on.)))
Are we to assume that you’re the only one who has had personal experiences Bosch or do you claim that privilege exclusively yours?
You’ll have to show me where any conservative or evangelical has claimed perfection without fault. I’ve never seen it but yet you infer it may have occurred.
