Borat OSAMA and HITLERY Clinton? The shoe fits and they both wear it well. Borat Osama, as a child in Indonesia, was enrolled by his father in extremist islamic schools. Hitlery Clinton is a hard-core European-style socialist femmenazi borderline-facist who wants to impose her personal will and views in the style of a totalitarian nanny state while using “political correctness”, mind control and fear of political persecution to keep a firm iron-fisted grip on the American people.
OSAMA, HITLERY and Slick Willie the Serial Rapist, a torrid, demonic political three-way made in hell that couldn’t have been better assembled by the devil himself. The dark armies of the RUTHLESS and TYRANNICAL HITLERY CLINTON and those EVIL DEMOCRATS will be soundly defeated on Election Day 2008 and America will be spared and saved from the ATHEIST COMMUNIST AGENDA.

“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling “reveals” one of the book’s key characters to be gay while flunkie comedian Kathy Griffin almost literally denies the existance of God and tells “Jesus to suck on it” during an award-show acceptance speech and receives a rousing round of applause for her blasphemous anti-Christian remarks from a secularist (atheist) Hollyweird audience. These two instances of blatant in-your-face disrespect of traditional American Christian values just proves that these liberal deviants are out to shove their pervasive hedonistic homosexual atheist agenda down the throats of Americans (pun intended). Just a preview of what’s to come during a possible HITLERY Clinton administration.
Looks like these sicko liberal puppies need to neutered.

Another terrorist attack on American soil is all but guaranteed if HITLERY, OSAMA or another “Brand-X” type Democrat (“Brand-XXX” in Bill Clinton’s case) is elected President in 2008. As a whole, the Democrat Party has nothing but hate and contempt for the U.S. Armed Forces and will do whatever is in their power to blunt diminish their effectiveness, readiness and value.
Liberals hate the U.S. Military and want nothing more than to hang the nation and its soldiers out to dry.

A vote for the Democrat Party is a vote for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong IL, a posthumous Saddam Hussein, an Islamafacist regime with nuclear missles in Pakistan and other tyrants of their ilk.

What do you expect, ML…? After they’ve failed to find Osama bin Laden, failed to fix health care, failed to secure the borders against illegal immigration, failed in Iraq, ignored global warming, gutted the military and run up the biggest budget deficits in history, all that’s left to the Grand Old Party is name-calling…a few dead-enders still huddling around Fox News and Rush the Drug Addict. The sight of a bunch of old white guys (i.e., the Republican candidates) gang up on a woman is accomplishing something I never thought possible…it’s making Senator Hillary Clinton look positively presidential by comparison.

While Harry Reid blames global warming for the California fires, and Sen. Boxer blames Bush, we know that at least some of these fires were started by arsonists.

They arrested someone yesterday whom they caught setting fire to a hill at Lake Arrowhead. Time will tell whether he was connected to Earth First!, ALF, ELF or is a lone actor.

Meanwhile, here is a scumbag journalist who admits to having his heart warmed by acts of arson:

October 10, 2007-By Peter Shelton. Eco-terrorism has been back in the news with the recent convictions of several members of the Earth Liberation Front up in the Pacific Northwest. They admitted torching a timber company office and to that dramatic arson of the Two Elks ridge-top cafeteria at Vail. At least one young arsonist professed rather abject regret, I thought, for his role in the movement. I was disappointed in him. He could have shown a little more gumption…. Still, I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic for the day the news broke about the Vail fire. Or the day somebody incinerated all those Hummers in a Southern California car lot. Message received, loud and clear.

Would you mind to post a link to a news article or anything where Barbara Boxer publically blames Bush for the California wildfires?

Because I’ve read this so far:

[Sen. Barbara Boxer on Tuesday said she believes the administration’s disaster response, particularly FEMA’s, has improved since Hurricane Katrina rocked New Orleans and the government’s slow response time was widely criticized.

“They seem to be getting out in front of this,” said Boxer, who held a briefing Tuesday with House members from affected regions, National Guard Lt. General H. Steven Blum and several FEMA officials.](http://www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_7263281)

And you’d think that if she officially blames Bush for the California wildfires she’d at least have released a press statement from her office.

But, can you please provide me a link where she says that? I’ve been looking and looking all morning and can’t find anything.

Thanks!

It is certainly not news, nor terribly surprising, that such an extraordinary percentage of those who comprise the far political right here rely so excessively upon immature insults and juvenile personal attacks.

What is particularly sad though, is that this particularly nasty, attack dog behavior was learned by parroting the GOP “leaders” on the national stage.

I have asserted before that any semblance to civil discourse was one of numerous casualties of the Gingrich Doctrine. You remember it. It’s basic premises were to slash and burn, demonize those that disagree, act as if you have the monopoly on morality and that god is on your side and twist the facts, whenever possible to fit the situation.

This is one of the main reasons that the Republican Party is in such deep trouble today.

A few now realize that they’ve lost their way and their connection to their historical traditions, which used to rely MUCH more on intellect and reason rather than demagoguery and emotions, and that this “lowest common denominator” approach is self-defeating.

As evidenced by Donnie Deutsch’s assertion the other night that much of America is fed up with the venom that is constantly pouring from the lips of the Ann Coulters and so many other neo-con darlings like her.

But yet they just can’t seem to either admit to this basic failing nor change their path, except in the most vague and disingenuous terms.

And that is one of the reasons why they are again going to get decimated in next November’s elections.

The writing is on the wall, GOP. Pull your head out of a certain body cavity and read it.

You see, in the Islamic faith, if you’re raised a Muslim and your father considers you to be a Muslim, denoucing Islam requires a death sentence. I have no idea if Obama’s father who is said to raise him as a Muslim still considers him to be a Muslim. We don’t seem to get answers to those kinds of questions from the liberal media.

Why is this important, you ask? Because the tenents of Islam, as shown by Osama and Imanutjob, are to make Islam THE governing body of THE WORLD, not just some pile of sand in the middle east. They believe Islam should rule the world and you and I, the infidles, will either convert to Islam, submit to their Islamic rule, or be killed. Personally, I will NEVER convert to Islam or bow down at the altar of Allah. How about you when your choice comes? Islam or death?

I know what your thinking… “thats just the radical Islamist, most of them are “peace loving”. So why don’t you hear ANY of the peace loving Islamist denounce the actions of the extremists? Because they will be killed and/or removed from their local mosques. Look it up.

Based on the FACTS above, I think it’s a fair question to know EXACTLY where the man stands in relation to his Muslim upbringing. Does he denounce it or is he a wolf in sheeps clothing?

Remember, there is no “religious freedom” in the Muslim world, people. It’s Allah or death. You libs are playing with fire here.

{{{{Similarly, so many San Diegans took food, water, blankets, sleeping bags and other emergency supplies to the stadium that they created a traffic nightmare. “The outpouring of community support for fire relief efforts has currently overwhelmed traffic and materials handling at the stadium site,” the mayor said in a statement urging San Diegans to suspend their deliveries of donations.}}}}

{{{{The volunteer help was not limited to retirees serving coffee and doughnuts. A small city was established at the stadium within just a few hours, with thousands of evacuees in need of three meals a day, a comfortable place to sleep and personal hygiene items. Because of the volunteer commitment, those needs were promptly met. Meanwhile, the medical requirements of displaced residents, including many elderly, were tended to by volunteer physicians and registered nurses.}}}}

Bosch,

Adam Housley, who is on the ground in Lake Arrowhead reported it. They arrested a guy on a motorcycle who they saw set fire to a hill. The witnesses were in a helicopter that was patrolling to prevent looters.

Here’s a little recap of some eco-terrorist events, some of which involve arson.

Another good recap of acts of eco-terrorism.

Note that a Forest Service station was torched at one event. That happened in California, and Fox is reporting that an arsonist is on the loose who started 3 fires.

As I said earlier, time will tell whether these people are connected to groups or are lone actors. However, the fact remains that history shows that these lowlifes use arson as one of their tools.

RB,

Thank you for your manifesto regarding Islamic fathers and their sons. It was very informative, but it has nothing to do with Barack Obama.

Obama’s dad and mother seperated when he was two years old. He only met his father once after that. His mother remarried a nominal Muslim (who must not have adhered to the teachings too much because he is said to enjoy bacon) and moved to Jakarta when he was six years old where he attended a Catholic school for two years and then a Muslim school for two years where, in both instances, religion was nominally taught.

He moved back to Hawaii when he was 10 and attended the Punahou School.

He was not raised a Muslim and has never declared to be a Muslim, but he has declared to be a Christian and attends a Christian church, so why should he have to declare his disassociation with a religion he has never claimed to be involved in?

So you think that anyone associated with or has a family members that a Muslim should disassociate themselves with them if they are running for office? You know, just to be on the safe side, of course.

And, please do not ever pretend to know what I’m thinking.

Your Republican administration and tax dollars hard at work.

WASHINGTON — Fewer people think the U.S. is adequately thwarting terrorists, meeting its objectives in Iraq or achieving other goals overseas, according to a poll that shows a deepening skepticism about the country’s foreign policy.

“We are reaching a point where the public seems to be questioning not just whether current policies are working, but whether the United States can have an effective foreign policy at all,” said a report accompanying the survey, conducted in the U.S. last month for Public Agenda, a nonpartisan public policy group, and the journal Foreign Affairs.

The poll also found little taste for a military confrontation with Iran. Tensions with Tehran have risen over its nuclear program and aid to fighters opposing U.S. troops in Iraq.

Sixty-five percent said they preferred economic or diplomatic moves against Iran, compared to 19 percent who favored military action or threats.

Asked to assign grades to the U.S. for meeting foreign policy goals, 48 percent awarded As or Bs for giving terrorism the attention it deserves. The number giving those grades was 10 percentage points lower than when the question was asked in 2005.

Twenty-five percent gave those highest grades when asked how well the U.S. was succeeding in Iraq, down 14 points from 2005. There were similar drop-offs in top grades for meeting U.S. objectives in Afghanistan, spreading democracy in the world, resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and having good relations with Muslim nations.

While 56 percent said improved intelligence operations would help a great deal to protect the country.

Thirty-eight percent said respecting other countries more would do a great deal to improve U.S. security.

By 65 percent to 28 percent, people said the U.S. should rely more on diplomatic and economic efforts, rather than military might, to combat terrorism.

Also:

— Most think global cooperation can reduce global warming.

— 64% said they think the rest of the world sees the U.S. negatively, including 30% who said very negatively.

— Only 25% said the U.S. is doing a good or excellent job making the world more peaceful.

— People ranked the Middle East as the top U.S. foreign policy problem, with four in 10 choosing it.

Mad as Zell,

I see that you have taken your priviledge as a winger to have your own facts, in this case the suggestion that Barack Obama attended a fanatical Islamic school in Indonesia. While I agree that you can make up what ever facts come to your little mind, because that is your right as a winger, I think these are some facts that you might even have trouble with.

How old is Obama? According the the publicly known facts he is 46 years old and born in 1961. He was in Indonesia from 1967 to 1971.

I suppose that you have decided that Indonesia was a hot bed on Islamic facsism some 30 plus years before anyone had ever uttered the phrase? A made up fact that can easily be disproved. I also suppose that you are arguing that the public schools in Indonesia were radical anti-American schools in the late 1960’s. Another made up fact that can easily be disproved.

Are you also assuming (making up the facts) that Indonesia itself was anti-American in 1970? Are you also making up facts that there was any organized Muslim hostility toward the US in 1970? It does seem to me that we teamed up with the Taliban in the 1980’s to kick the USSR out of Afghanistan. Was Reagan an Islamic-Fundamentalist for doing so? I believe he called these Islamic Fundalmentalists, ‘freedom fighters.’

While wingers have the right to make up facts as much as they please and do so often your made up facts stretch so far out there that you come off as a very stupid fact maker-upperer. I guess what I’m saying is that we wingers have to have pride in our work in making up the facts so that they at least seem plausible to even the marginally stupid.

I mean if you want to make up facts about people’s religion say that Mitt Romney’s Great-Grandfather was a polygamist. Oh wait, thats actually true.

Andy,

Funny, scary stuff for you.

Mortgage backed securities had become the cornerstone of all lending in the last 5 years. Just about every other loan is tied in some way to these securities.

Think for a minute, whatever street you live on and take a look at all the houses on that block. think of the home price, and the probably mortgage debt tied to it, figure 80% of the value. figure 50 houses, each worth about 250k, 80% debt would be around 10 million for that street. now imagine all of metro atlanta. the amount of mortgage debt is more than the actual cash the homeowners and banks combined have.

I read somewhere that $100 of real cash can provide for $5000 worth of loans after it gets sold, repackaged and sold again. A guy buys a house and takes a 200k loan at 6.5%, that loan comes from a broker, who doesn’t really have 200k to lend, but they borrow it from a national bank at 6%. The national bank cannot really fund all the mortgages that they have and still fund more loans, so they borrow money from an investor pool at 5.75%. Those investors don’t really have the money to fund all those mortgages, so they borrow money from other investors and hedgefunds at 5.5%. Those hedgefunds and investors don’t really have enough money to fund all that debt so they borrow out money to cover it. And on and on it goes.

There really is no cash backing all this debt. it is all borrowed money. if the mortgages go, then financing for many other things, credit cards, auto finance, new commercial construction… all of it begins to dry up because there is no real value on this debt, just a theory that people will pay into.

Think of Google stock for a minute, this is a company that does not produce anything, it just sells ad time to other companies. It is currently valued at 154 billion dollars. the actual value of that comapny is no where near that much, but people will buy the stock, and it will rise not based upon actual value but on predictive stock price gains. so how much money did this 154 billion dollar comapny profit in 2006? 3 billion. not exactly 154 billion is it.

scary what people will buy into.

and gold will get to 1000 an ounce by this time next year.

One of the many ways that the neo-cons always seem to shoot themselves in the foot, is by their non-judicious use of heavy handedness and a seemingly total lack of pragmatism.

If an organization wants to make its points, inane or not, on college campuses, do they realistically think they have a snowball’s chance in the christian hell with phrases like “counteracting the blame America first crowd”?

All these zealots are going to accomplish is preaching to their own tiny paranoid choir and getting repudiated by mainstream America.

Maybe Glenn Beck will attend as he not only thinks WW4 is inevitable it is absolutely imminent! RUN AWAY!!!

{{A week-long series of forums discussing Islamic fundamentalism’s ties to human rights abuses and terrorism has sparked protests and charges of hate speech on college campuses nationwide.

Students on more than 100 college campuses nationwide are participating in Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, which organizers say is designed to “rally American students to defend their country.” Events are scheduled at schools including Princeton, UCLA, Columbia University, and Penn State.

Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is the creation of Terrorism Awareness Project (TAP), a student offshoot of the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Its mission, according to its Web site, is to counteract the “blame America first” crowd that dominates America’s universities. The group aims to educate students and other Americans about the “cadre of Islamic terrorists” who “have declared Holy War on the U.S.,” according to organizers.}}

While we were saying that there was an anti-American liberal media, it wasn’t really true then. We were just making it up. That’s why we were popular in the world then and not now. The only thing that has changed is that there is now a liberal media and there wasn’t before even though we said there was.

Yes, I understand the argument that the evil “blame America first” liberal media and universities is why the United States has most if not all of its problems.

The reality is that even if the neo-cons got their way and shut down the free press, or could ideally dilute the first amendment, which since the nation’s conception have grand traditions of illustrating the failings of our elected leaders, people would still know what was happening.

The fact that the thugs on the far right who desperately try to spin this into a case of the messengers being America-haters who love terrorists is just transparent and obvious childish stupidity. Most rational Americans I would surmise, could care less that they take umbrage with such delusional conclusions.

And invariably, these worst of the self-righteous on the extreme right simply fail to ever accept responsibility for the truth.

President Bush to send 10,000 row boats to San Diego!

In response to the tragedy in California, Bush said he would offer the help immediately so a repeat of the failed Katrina rescue would not be duplicated. The wooden lifeboats will be airlifted and dropped where needed.

“We need to assure them Californians have a way out this tragedy. Row boats will provide these people with an exit opportunity the people in New Orleans were not given. These Life Boats will save lives.” Said Bush.

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on them, fool me thrice, hell people don’t be fooled again row row row your boat. Now watch me as I hit this drive…..”

FEMA was also thinking of building giant walls of bottled water that would melt as the fire approached thus putting out the blazes. However the nations stockpile of bottled water was being emptied into Georgia’s Lake Lanier for drought relief and was not available. Ironically Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was in California shooting a commercial for “Go Fish Georgia” and not available for comment. No word on if he suffered any burns but he does have access to a row boat.

rushncap, the thing the “neo-cons on campus” (Is that like Jews for Jesus?) always fail to see is that their “message” is generally distasteful, no matter what part of the country.

They would like to believe that it is only at Berkeley and in the Ivy League that they are not trusted nor valued.

But whether the university is in Michigan, New Mexico, New Jersey or North Carolina or Ohio the reception by the students is going to be pretty much the same.

Young people who have dedicated their lives to knowledge and learning based on reason and intellect are not terribly interested in the odd beliefs of a small minority whose opinionated conclusions are based so extensively, not on evidence or facts, but almost exclusively on emotional demagoguery.

And like it or not, for an idealistic youth, hate cloaked as prudent national security is not going to be a big seller.

No, DavidEm. This blog is the real thing. A perfect cross section of today’s Repug party and its thought processes. These are people who have been nursed on hatred, bigotry, bitterness, jealousy, raw ignorance, personal failures and resultant anger at the world. They try to “identify” w the very wealthy, never realizing that every vote they cast undermines their own personal and financial positions. I doubt there’s a single Repug here who makes more than $40K/year. They substitute their personal lack of success by filling up on the hatred and intolerance you read here. The “worst Americans” with “the wrong stuff.” A weak, disgusting lot to be sure.

Rushncap,

It appears that UNC is reneging on its responsibilities to educate it’s students.

According to a study by the National Association of Scholars, only one third of the UNC system require courses in Western Civilization. Two thirds, however, do require multicultural or cultural diversity courses.

The truth shall set you free:

{{In his excellent book, The Reckless Mind, Mark Lilla argues that intellectuals, far from supplementing the Humanist/Enlightenment project, often find themselves aligned with tyrants, oligarchs, and other strange bedfellows against the distinctive ideals of the West.}}}

Of course this is what it’s really all about -

{{{The brouhaha over funding at Chapel Hill reveals a similar mindset. The faculty and student opponents can make the ‘poison fruit’ argument all they’d like. Their real concern stems from a fear that the proposed program may distinguish Western culture in some way, that the program may enunciate essential differences between the Enlightenment project of Europe, the liberal democracies of the West, and the oppressive tyranny of the ‘Other’.}}}

Purchases in China rose 20 percent last year, helping elevate the country to the third-largest buyer of all kinds of gold after India and the United States, according to estimates the researcher GFMS in London.}}}}

Copper, silver, brass, all out of sight because of China’s demand.

This is an interesting article from the American Thinker, entitled, “The South Rises”:

For generations, American elites from the North have treated the South as a benighted land of knaves, fools, and charlatans, a proper subject of scorn and satire and certainly not a region to be admired or emulated. They are comically wrong.

{{The South has long risen from the ashes of the Civil War, and by many measures it the most admirable region of our nation. It may well be on the verge of becoming America’s dominant region, eclipsing the Eastern Seaboard that has reigned from our nation’s birth, and sprinting past the ambitions of the West Coast challenge, as the reference point for where America is going and as the heart of American culture.}}

The UNC campus is an exception of course, but hope springs eternal.

Money? I dont care about it. Money cant buy health. If you have cancer, a trillion dollars wont save you. Cancer cells are immortal, they can divide forever. They acquire this immortality by a process as yet unknown, but they interact somehow with the reproductive organs and cloak themselves.

RW obviously has never been sick a day in his life, and he doesn’t know fear. Not like the greatest generation knew fear during the depression, when the seeds of socialism were born and sprouted via FDR into the new deal, social security and gov. work programs, entitlements, and high taxes. Our country was only saved by Hitler’s invasion of France. War is capitalism’s best friend, lets face it. George W Bush probably saved our economy from disaster by starting the perpetual war in Iraq.

The stock market knows war. The stock market likes war. Business is good, and whatever recessionary symptoms we may experience is the vestige of theimpending ruin that persisted despite W’s best efforts.

History may be kind to W, if I’m right, and I think I’m right about war and our economy. The charts dont lie. War creates jobs. People lend money to industrialists who create more jobs. We get to peace and prosperity only through war.

All real americans love the sting of battle. I will be proud to lead you good folks into an endless siege, from which we will attain a peace and prosperity never before seen by man.

Andy,

“The rising price of gold has nothing to do with the economy of the United States, gimpy:”

You have got to be kidding right?

Gold is an international monetary standard. It is not tied to any country’s production, gdp or anything else. The rise in gold is due to two things, one is the rise in price is exagerated by a weakining dollar, the rise is not nearly as high when converted to GBP or Euros. The other is that foriegn investment is shifting away from US securities into more stable markets.

I knew if I unspooled even a little bit of wire with an obvious hook our little Muffin would not only bite and swallow it, but hang herself on the line.

Muff, darlin’, ALL regular history is “western history”. The reason they started establishing things like “Asian history” and others is because at one point professors and students took a look at curricula and said to themselves “You know… white people aren’t the only ones whose story is worth telling”. “History” = “white westerner history”. Establishing a separate dept. for that serves only 1 purpose: neo-con agenda, which seeks, among other things, to elevate the white race above others. Own it, honey.

If you had ever actually taken a history class you’d know all of this, btw. Why do you insist on talking about things you know nothing about with people who do? Why should we teach Western Civilization? The Greeks are are the founders of Western Civilization and they were pre-Christian, sodomites. And as you know Christ was Asian. We should be teaching the Bible in schools not what a bunch of pederasts had to say 2,500 years ago.

Next thing you know you’ll be saying that the Renaissance, the rebirth of Western Civilization. which over time ultimately replaced religious institutions with demcratic, secular governments, was a good thing.

As we both know the so-called “Dark Ages” were a conservatives dream where the Government not only recognized religion but enforced its precepts. I mean you probably think putting Galileo in jail was a bad idea. If so, you are a liberal!!!!

Your superiority complex is hilarious, and oh so predictable:

These elites have all but ignored the genres of blues, gospel, and country-western music that express longing and sadness, patriotism and pride, the sense of hope that shines through dark despair. The creative centers for these types of music are all found in the South (Nashville, Memphis and points South. One publicly held company, Gaylord Entertainment, focuses on “Southern” forms of entertainment and has prospered). When George Bush Senior wrote an article about how much he liked country music, the Washington Post reprinted it under the demeaning headline, “George and the Oval Office Do-Si-Do: Heck, a President Ain’t Nothin’ but Just Folks”.

Dusty,

I think, as usual, you missed my point completely. Your ilk is claiming that Boxer blamed Bush for the wildfires. That’s like saying he actually went out and set them himself, which she didn’t say.

I don’t doubt for a minute that Boxer said that if the National Guard wasn’t wasting their time, energy, and equipment in Iraq, California would be better equipped and have more resources to fight the fires, which, face the truth, is true.

She may have even mis-spoke and said that ALL the California National Guard were in Iraq, which isn’t true, but any that are there could be better used, at home, fighting these fires.

Any single piece of equipment, and every troop we have in Iraq is wasted and could be used for a better purpose.

Anything on the plus side, I mean there hasn’t been a terrorist attack in the US since the 3000 killed 9 months after he took office. And terrorism is on the rise worldwide.

You may be interested in reading Samuel Huntington’s “The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order.”

It was originally published in the early 90s, has been updated in light of recent events. Not so much a history of civilizations as an examination of the current situation, the historical influence of various civilizations and the conflict that will exist over the next few generations.

IN THE NEWS,

I actually prefer this one from a little later yesterday. No response from Luck. Let’s give him another chance:

LuckoDuh,

Thanks for the update on Petreaus. BTW: has he revisited his testimony that he had no idea whether success in Iraq made Americans safer?

You and I know that if we don’t create a Jeffersonian democracy in Iraq we’re all gonna die. We know that because that is what Bush tells us. So has Petreaus caught up with this logic yet? I mean won’t he take his job more seriously if he knows that our nation’s very existence depends upon his success?

Moreover, why should we trust this mission to somebody who is so stupid that he has no idea that success in Iraq is the prerequisite for our nation’s survival? And if he is that dumb, why should we listen to his updates on the war? It seems to me that he has shown himself to be a demonstrable moron simply by not seeing that winning in Iraq is the only thing that will keep us alive.

What are your thoughts on the lead Gen. appointed by the president to oversee this mission not knowing instinctively that success in Iraq makes us safer?

I mean you really only have 3 choices:

1) He’s an idiot 2) He;s right and Iraq has very little to do with our national security 3) Ignore the facts because they aren’t helpful.

I’m guessing that you’ll take #3. All the wingers do. It really is better than confronting reality isn’t it.

Oh I forgot, choice #4 is “he was taken out of context.”

While pondering this question don’t worry that nearly 4,000 US troops have died and over 30,000 have been seriously wounded on the premise that invading Iraq made us safer even though the lead general in charge won’t say that. I mean if you do, you might think, if you have a soul (which I doubt), that you may in part be responsible for these deaths and injuries which have no rational relationship to American security. At least not one which can be discerned by the lead general in charge. I just wouldn’t go there. I’d just wave your flag, close your ears, shut your eyes and scream like a Rhesus monkey while throwing feces until these questions pass. It is the winger defense mechanism which protects us from responsibility for the coffins, the dismemebered limbs, the mutilated faces, the severe brain injuries and the mental trauma suffered by our troops in the defense of what? The good general hasn’t thought about it, right?.

Amazing you can say (with a straight face?) that the mission of the US Dept of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Voting section, is to promote the violation of law. Amazing. Maybe you meant they are putting more emphasis on prosecuting voter fraud?

Let’s see, since 1965 there’s been a heavy emphasis on cases involving traditional “voting rights” with minorities. Many of the career bureaucrats have worked their entire careers on these cases. They’re experts. It’s pretty routine.

Now comes a shift in emphasis. Suddenly, the bureaucrats aren’t experts. They have to learn new concepts, new case law, exert themselves. No kidding they’re ticked.

None of that could be behind these charges? In point of fact - the article’s heavy on innuendo. Government employees are entitled by law for “per diem” when they’re assigned (under certain circumstances) to a work area away from where they’re assigned. The rate is set by locality and covers meals and incidentals. Even on weekends and holidays! Or don’t you want public servants to eat on weekends and holidays?

And for assignment to Boston, if she’d stayed in a hotel it would have cost taxpayers an additional $165 a day. Each day. Did you stop to wonder why people can be encouraged to stay with friends, family, or to seek cheaper lodging? Because it saves money?

It could have been a boondoggle. Or not. That’s what IG investigations are for. But the “report” from the web site was a rather lacking piece of reporting.

At 10:30 RE said the economy was doomed, I debunked that scare mongering thoroughly, RE made some wild claims, most notably that oil was priced according to the value of the dollar, I gave him a graph of all the world’s currency showing their value compared to the price of oil, he comes back at me with the economy is doomed.

Should I now shine a mirror on the blog so that the reflection will restart the exact same debate without me having to type it all in?

BUSH GETS CODED MESSAGE FROM OSAMA BIN LADEN After numerous rounds of ‘We don’t even know if bin Laden is still alive’, bin Laden decides to send George W. a letter in his own writing to let him know that he is still in the game. Bush opens the letter and sees only a coded message: “370HSSV-0773H”. He can’t figure it out, so he asks Karl Rove. Rove suggests that the head of the CIA would certainly understand code, so Bush sends it to George Tenet. Tenet, however, can’t figure it out, either. He suggests, “How about Condi? She has a doctorate, that means she’s smart.” But Dr. Rice is baffled, too. As Bush is pondering the mysterious message lying on the desk before him, Colin Powell enters the Oval Office. When he sees the paper and reads what is written on it, he asks, “Sir, where did that come from?” Bush replies testily, “Supposedly it’s a message from Osama bin Laden. But what the hell does ‘370HSSV-0773H’ mean?” Powell clears his throat and replies, “Mr. President, I think you’ve been looking at the message upside down.”

BUSH AT THE PEARLY GATES Einstein dies and goes to heaven. At the Pearly Gates, Saint Peter tells him, “You look like Einstein, but you have NO idea the lengths that some people will go to sneak into Heaven. Can you prove who you really are?” Einstein ponders for a few seconds and asks, “Could I have a blackboard and some chalk?” Saint Peter snaps his fingers and a blackboard and chalk instantly appear. Einstein proceeds to describe with arcane mathematics and symbols his theory of relativity. Saint Peter is suitably impressed. “You really ARE Einstein!” he says. “Welcome to heaven!” The next to arrive is Picasso. Once again, Saint Peter asks for credentials. Picasso asks, “Mind if I use that blackboard and chalk?” Saint Peter says, “Go ahead.” Picasso erases Einstein’s equations and sketches a truly stunning mural with just a few strokes of chalk. Regarding your questions about Gen Petraeus, what he knows or instinctively knows, etc etc.

General officers aren’t given to speculating in official forums on areas outside their assignment. You can find the duties and responsibilities with which he is charged in his current assignment. I doubt if it states “your actions in this assignment are to make the US safer.” I rather imagine it is more concerned with duties in Iraq.

That was really a political question designed to embarrass Gen Petraeus or the Administration. There is a nebulous, theoretical answer (“of course. The mission of the US Army is to defend the US and make us safe”) but that wasn’t the gist of the question.

The fact he paused when he did should have been a clue he wasn’t glib or a marionette for the administration, else he would have answered “yes!.”

Online Poll:

Which is more fun:

trying to change the minds of people who don’t have them, or

making fun of people in the most annoying and enjoyable way possible?

As for me I’m gonna go with the latter.

As I have said before, if certain people that post here grow a brain and try to have constructive dialogue that attempts to understand the true values that America stands for, and if they try to promote ideas that are not based in prejudice, fear or ignorance and if those positions are framed upon actual rather than made up facts, and those ideas are promoted such that it is clear that they are thinking of the greater good of us all then I will quit posting here as it would be pointless. I do recognize that while both sides of the equation have their ignorant polemists, there does seem to be more of them on one side than the other.

In the meantime, however, as long as certain people say things that are stupid, untrue, hypocritical or just downright insane, I will continue to call you out in my own special way. Why? Because I have a lot of fun doing it. I don’t care what you think about it. I don’t care if it makes any of you stop and think about how stupid I’ve made you look. I do it because I can and its fun. I have noticed that my targets magically disappear soon after my challenges, which I find most rewarding. Those who are victims of my attacks are outmanned and you know it. So you run and you whine but you never respond or defend. Because you know that you’ll be made even a bigger fool than you were before.

So there you have it. A challenge. Stand up to me. I want you to. Make an argument about why I’m wrong and you are right. Please. Or you can continue to be wussies. It doesn’t matter because I’m not stopping until you change your ways or disappear. Either way, I don’t give a damn.

O.K. RE, since you obviously do not have any more original ideas, how about if I lead and you follow?

Isn’t it rather interesting that the United States gets a democrat controlled Congress and the value of the dollar immediately plummets but the Europeans start electing wingnuts and the value of their currency sky rockets?

And since I think you live in the United States, tell me, after you shed all of your dollars for Euros, when you go and exchange them back so that you can buy milk and cheese and such, haven’t you undercut your own purchasing power? Isn’t that just like a lib, it is inbred into them that they hate the United States so much that they have to undermine for what ever reason they can find.

Maybe I need to explain who I am, and how I came to be the king of all blogs and the number one chatroom chitchatter in the world. This is going to be painful but I think I owe everyone this much about me:

I was raised during the age of aquarius by two leos and a capricorn in the year of the rat. Early on I developed an immunity to prickly heat, so my mother only changed my diaper once in the four years of my weaning. I was prepubescent during my post-adolescence so when I streaked basketball games in middle school most people thought I was wearing a chia pet and thus was never prosecuted. I was the first to categorize my wet dreams into animal, vegetable, and mineral. I schooled myself in the different ways to fake en passant in chess games and I invented three fail-safe methods for cheating at hop scotch.

Shall I continue, or is my life too much a horror for this blog’s tender sensibilities?

Paul takes choice #4. Congrats. The whole thing was taken out of context.

Let me ask you this then. If Petreaus had been thinking about his responsibilities in Iraq at all wouldn’t he have considered the issue? I mean the guy has been over there for nearly 5 years. Don’t you think that he has framed, at least in his own head, what the mission was about?

Can you imagine Ike standing before any audience anywhere and being asked: Does defeating the Nazis make us safer?

“Well, I haven’t really thought about that. That seems to me to be some sort of tricky political question.”

I really doubt it. My guess is that he would have looked at the questioner as if he were f*******-i-n-g insane. Which is what you would expect when the answer is so clear.

My point is that at a minimum it isn’t clear to Gen Petreaus which either makes him a fool or the administration a bunch of liars. Which is it Paul? Since I know Bush always tells the truth, I just assume that the General must be an idiot.

RE 5:28

I think a more appropriate example might have been, if, during questioning by Republican Senators, he was asked “did the training exercise involving live landings conducted in inclement weather off the eastern coast of England, prior to the Normandy landings, which resulted in the loss of 800 soldiers’ lives make America safer?”

I do think this is different than committee members asking for a candid assessment - as long as the officers involved are speaking on the scope of their responsibilities. Not in response to a carefully crafted script designed to embarrass others. That’s been the source of my angst with some of the book tour generals - they were in positions to raise red flags, step forward, challenge the “wisdom” - and didn’t.

RWNJIFG 5:27

[[Make an argument about why I’m wrong and you are right.]]

Is this a variation of “you’re either with us or against us”? A rather contagious concept, isn’t it?

Interesting world of absolutes or dual exclusives, there.

Generals have to be respectful of elected officials. It’s the law. Violating it carries penalties.

Given that Gen Petraeus had a specific strategy he was implementing, and given he was familiar with the myriad factors necessary to effect the strategy, I’d say he had a pretty fair idea of what his responsibility is.

Would accomplishing his task, with the resultant lessening of civilian and military casualties, make America safer? Rather a weak question, don’t you think? Would it help create an environment for the Iraqis to improve their incompetent, corrupt government? Probably. If they choose to use the opportunity. But I don’t think the “surge” was designed to make the Iraqi government more competent.

See where this is going? Especially for a guy who, I think, isn’t used to playing for an audience, getting votes and trumpeting how wonderful he is? You may think him an idiot. I think he has a way of conducting himself many of the Washington partisan political mindset may find a bit foreign.

what was actually asked was;

“Republican Senator John Warner asked General David Petraeus whether the current strategy in Iraq ‘will make America safer.’”

Petraeus: “I believe that this is indeed the best course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq.”

Warner repeated: “Does that make America safer?”

Petraeus: “I don’t know, actually.”

President Bush 1/10/2007

This new strategy will not yield an immediate end to suicide bombings, assassinations, or IED attacks. Our enemies in Iraq will make every effort to ensure that our television screens are filled with images of death and suffering. Yet over time, we can expect to see Iraqi troops chasing down murderers, fewer brazen acts of terror, and growing trust and cooperation from Baghdad’s residents. When this happens, daily life will improve, Iraqis will gain confidence in their leaders, and the government will have the breathing space it needs to make progress in other critical areas.

RE

Thanks for the source quote. I love those.

Let me speculate for a bit. Gen Petraeus was before Congress to provide a report. Here’s what I was tasked to do. Here’s what we did. Here’s why we did it. Here’s objective one. Here’s what happened in region a, b and c.

Quite analytic. My impression is it’s the way they’re used to doing things. Then along comes a theoretical question. Don’t get me wrong - many of these guys handle theory all day long - look at the courses they take for their advanced degrees and the papers they write.

Given that, just look at the leap from question one to question two. Will the current STRATEGY (not shouting, here, just emphasis) make America safer? I imagine he thought “huh?” “My strategy is to surge N troops into areas x y and z, strike alliances with Sunni tribal leaders, effect a continuing presence in ares we clear of insurgents…. will meeting these objectives make America safer?”

I can see a disconnect going on. Trying to understand what the Senator meant - as the question was on a higher level than strategy. Sen Warner is ex military, isn’t he? Ex Sec of the Navy or some such? He knows the distinctions.

The second question was a better followup. I trust it was an honest answer. Maybe one of resignation - just think of the political hay both sides would have made for either an absolute “yes” or “no” response. I suppose he realizes not many things he deals with are so simple, so absolute, that they can be answered with a yes or no.

Kind of leads one back to the abysmal military and diplomatic planning for after the statue was pulled down, doesn’t it? (you others ready to quote Gen Zinni on what a genius he was and he just wasn’t allowed to write a good plan… please….)

So maybe, just maybe, those who think “Western” Democracy isn’t possible for tribal, religiously dominated, human rights deprived societies are right? If so, things look really lousy for Iran. And for us.

Do you honestly think that we will take this into Iran?

By Right-wing nut job in full glory

October 24, 2007 6:27 PM | Link to this

Paul,

On right and wrong:

Simply because there are choices and different viewpoints, it does not follow that there are “grays” in life. There is a right and wrong answer to almost every question in life. As such I am a moral absolutist. This does not mean that all right answers are apparent at the time a decision is made because there are so many unknowns in any endeavor. However, many times people, leaders, etc. act wrongly in the face of known facts for which they should be held account. If you really think about it you will see that there is always a right and a wrong answer. If life were otherwise it would certainly be unfair to be judged on judgment day based on judgment calls wouldn’t it?

Good and evil are known to man. It is written on our hearts by our Creator. We always have a choice. The only people who don’t know right from wrong are infants, the insane and the sociopathic.

The only moral question that I know of that has no good answer, from a policy perspective, is the right to choose/right to life issue.

Assuming the mother’s life is not an issue is it wrong to have an abortion? Yes.

With th esame assumption, is it wrong to participate in performing an abortion? Yes.

Should it be illegal to have/perform an abortion? There is where it gets tricky. Should the state step in and say “you must carry this child to term?” That seems to me to be a little authoritarian for a free society as in most cases I think people ought to be free to do what they like so long as they don’t hurt anyone. So then the question is, is the fetus a victim that the law ought to recognize? Again a very troubling question. We don’t have funerals for miscarrages. We don’t have autopsies for miscarraiges. If you put the fetus on par with a born person would a miscarraige have to be reported to the police? Should the police investigate to see if any negligent or reckless conduct resulted in the death: drinking, drugs, not seeking adequate medical care etc…? As you can see this is the one area that the answers are almost impossible to find.

Other than this one isolated question, I do not agree that right and wrong are a mystery or that there is any need for debate on right and wrong. When honest and decent people pick the wrong course of action it is because they are misinformed, short-sighted, lack moral charecter e

Paul,

The General has had plenty of time to clarify and hasn’t. It seems that he has a disconnect in his own mind. He is not buying the Iraq makes us safer line, pure and simple. This thinking is in line with the vast majority of the American people who are too stupid to realize the necessity of the mission. It seems that 3 out 4 people in the country think that whether we win or lose will have little effect on our long term safety. Further, many of these people have given up and beleive that winning (creating a stable pro-western democracy) is simply not doable. Further, many of these Americans say that they didn’t have to have these last 4.5 years to understand the futility of the mission. Some of these people thought that doing what we have done would cost too much and gain too little. In fact, many of these people thought that it would only strengthen the hand of the Iranians.

RWNJIFG 6:27

Well, that explains the different viewpoints, doesn’t it? I see grays all day long. About the only absolute I see is to treat others like you’d like to be treated. And even that is problematic.

But in foreign policy, the topic of many discussions, we’re speaking of national interests. Options, courses of action, cover a range of “good” and “bad.” Interests that may carry risks or penalties for some, rewards for others.

I not only agree that the best course of action isn’t always apparent at the outset, I’ll also say that the objectives, desirable outcomes and actions to get “there” change as actions are carried out.

So, I see a lot in terms of “lousy” answer, “better” answer, “best known now.” Other things are clearly “right” and “wrong.” Some issues have, I think, clearly absolute, correct options. But many others don’t.

Newsbusters transcript of CBS morning News segment.

HARRY SMITH: And a fire chief says it’s ‘the absolute truth. With more air resources, we would have been able to control this. Early this Wednesday morning, October 24th, 2007.

SMITH: 7,000 firefighters working round the clock are overwhelmed. Virtually every fire engine in the state, some from 800 miles away, are on hand to do battle. And with all that, there’s still not enough help.

FIRE CHIEF CHIP PRATHER: It is an absolute fact, had we had more air resources, we would have been able to control this fire.

CRYING WOMAN: We did what we could, there’s just no fire engines here. There’s no fire engines. We’ve got lots of friends, but no fire engines. There’s the flames, really big, big flames.

SMITH: After a special request from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Department of Defense sent six Air Force and Air National Guard planes to help with the fight. Most of these planes carry about 3,000 gallons of water. A new supertanker, one that carries 21,000 gallons and distributes it over a much wider area, is currently being tested. It’s also faster and safer. But it won’t be certified in time to fight these devastating wildfires. I’ll tell you, resources is a big part of this story as we were with firefighters all night last night. We heard the radio crackling all night long. We need more help over here, we need more help over there. People were trying to take a nap. They woke people up and said we need more help over here. There are just not enough planes, there’s not enough people, there’s not enough equipment. That’s how big this story is. Now, let’s go to Bill Whitaker who’s in Lake Arrowhead, another place where the fire is burning out of control. Good morning, Bill.

BILL WHITAKER: Despite the devastation, firefighters were optimistic they can win this battle.

FIREFIGHTER: It’s got a lot of potential, but if we get the resources, we’ll be able to put it to bed.

and so forth…

When I wrote earlier of the chances for any kind of nonauthoritian, secular (or limited religious) government, responding to the will of the people (if the will is authoritarian we need to have another discussion), respectful of the individual - and I ended with a bleak outlook for Iran - I did mean Iran, not Iraq.

Is congress being run by Code Pink?

If so, is that a plan to get re-elected?

I think all of this Iran talk needs to be put to rest. We are not attacking Iran, period. The GOP is going to make Iran scary so that we elect the guy most likely to bomb them and then we won’t bomb them. The reason is simple. If we bomb Iran you have regional assymetric warfare and missles going off throughout our US bases in Iraq as well as Tel Aviv. Israel gets involved and people pick sides. Oil goes through the roof the economy tanks and we’re further up Shiite creek than we can even imagine. In addition, the GOP knows that they will never get support for a draft that would be necessary to have the ability to respond to Iran’s retaliation.

You are being manipulated. You are being frightened. You are being used. The idea is to create a bogeyman in Iran so scary that the American people will not elect a president who promises not to bomb Iran as the base of the Democratic party will insist on.

The question for 2008 will be: who will bomb Iran to prevent it from having a nuke? The GOP will say yes and won’t. The Dems will say no and won’t as well.

The only question remaining is whether the American people are dumb enough to fall for it again. My guess is that we can count on it.

The Iranians will go nuclear and will remain nuclear until we get the hell out of the way and let Israel handle it and take the fallout.

Ironically, the Iranians are taking advantage of our presence in Iraq. “Why do we need a nuke? To keep the Americans from invading. Why will be able to continue the process until we have one? Because American troops are close enough for us to hit.”

If we weren’t in Iraq we’d have already bombed the hell out of Iran. Further, they’d be scared to death of us. Our futility in Iraq and the lack of public support for the war or a draft is doing nothing but stregthening them.

But, for a winger like me it makes for winning politics so what the hell.

Paul and RE,

I really hope we aren’t that stupid.

Buy Danish,

I don’t know. All I know is that it’s a bad series. There was a better show on the Science Channel the other night narrated by Tom Brokaw (can’t remember the name).

RW,

Forgot to add - like I said earlier, I wouldn’t have doubted for a second that Boxer did indeed say that.

Good night all! Dinner awaits!

Yep, this election cycle’s boogie man is Iran.

Too bad she ruined their plan by warmongering.

Bwahahaha, better bring your A game.

The Clintons are wicked smart.

Paul,

Name any question that you think you don’t know what the right and wrong answer is and I’ll help you out.

I think one disconnect that we might have is that I’m speaking of right and wrong from a moral perspective rather than a “God doesn’t exist so what’s the best thing for me” point of view. If you take the latter approach almost anything can be “gray.” However, if you take the moral approach then the answers are actually quite easy and obvious.

Let me give you an example:

Assume that you have 2 sons. You and they are tied up at gunpoint and the man with the gun says: “Pick one son to live or you all die.” (Obvioulsy you have to believe that he will let 2 of you go for this to work so make that assumption.) What do you do? From a “God doesn’t exist what’s best for me” perspective you sit there and determine the relative value of each child and you make a very tough choice. If you look at it from a moral perspective as I do, you simply say: “kill us all.”

Once you understand that then you will understand what I’m getting at.

Bi Danish, gather up some of your moron friends and some gasoline cans - start setting fires in Georgia - see if you can get one to take out a few hundred thousand acres.

Given all the stumpbroke illiterate maniacs in Georgia, if arson was the problem, Georgia would be a smoking ash pile.

Trash.

Bosch,

Didn’t I mention that when you found yourself in a hole to stop digging?

The video you want to make believe says that Fox News is reporting that Barbara Boxer said the fires were Bush’s fault is laughable.

For starters it’s a one minute opinion piece and very clearly labeled as one. It doesn’t mention Boxer until the last few seconds and when it does it quotes her the very same way Dusty and I quoted her. It says Boxer said that if the National Guard wasn’t in Iraq they would be here to fight the fire and the graphic on screen says she is politicizing the fires which she clearly was.

For the life of me I can’t figure out how people with your limited mental capacity can manage to type a blog post, much less take it to your level where you, with a barely functioning brain, call others idiots on a daily basis.

The award for the most shameless pandering from a Dem goes to… Chrissie Dodd!

{{{“As you know, Governor Schwarzenegger has had to ask other states for help because so many of California’s National Guard, who provide critical support to the citizens while you are fighting the fires, were deployed to Iraq.}}}

In a Dodd Administration, never again will our houses be on fire because our troops are taking fire in Iraq.
