CNN (Communist News Network) is asking if Pete Stark should apologize for his remarks on the floor yesterday.

As of this point on 11% said yes.

It appears as if each one of Glenn Becks viewers voted twice.

I looked at FOX News (Fascist Order of Xenophobes and they seem afraid to ask that question.

So I ask you:

My favorite news story of the week:

Eric Rudolph’s mom is complaining that her son is being mistreated in prison. Apparently the cell mate next to Rudolph is unsanitary and the exercise yard is too small.

He’s also denied books and family visits and his mail doesn’t get to him in a timely fashion.

Hmmmm…….GOOD!!!!

Hopefully the cellmate next to him slings his s** on Rudolph daily.

I am disappointed in you. I thought that you had a basic sense of fairness. But I see you have fallen into the late liberal trait of hate.

Did you even see the video of Pete Stark (D) from California bellowing like Ahmajinebad or Osama about President Bush? Are you too so filled with hate that you would say that the President is sending our young people to war because he “likes to see their heads blown off”?

Don’t make any excuses unless you dislike our country as much as you dislike President Bush.

Disagreement is one thing. Sounding like an American terrorist is another thing. We do not need people in Congress who betray our country. That is exactly what Stark was doing in his effort to undermine President Bush and destroy the morale of our troops at war.

“Two smart brains…” hmmmm. That is probably true, though I am not so sure I would like what hers is thinking.

Bill wasn’t (so) bad. Welfare to work was good. NAFTA, while flawed, wasn’t a killer. He did benefit from $9/bbl oil and a techno boom that wasn’t of his doing. He also did slash the military, though that wasn’t horrible in a time of peace. Budget balancing…that was good. However, he did ignore al Quada on all fronts, and had his crony steal the docs that proved it…

I wouldn’t be opposed to Bill again, but that Hillary scares me.

G’morning, Bosch

A thought from the other day - just something to mull over - (I really don’t want to open the door for the ” No God” fundamentalists)

If I remember correctly, after reading the interview with the Nigerian Archbishop (and the quote “In our society, Scripture judges cultures, while in Western society Culture judges Scripture”) you expressed reservations about someone from another country telling someone from another country what to do.

Isn’t there a difference between doctrine (Jesus as God, Son of God or Jesus is was a really neat guy with some great suggestions; the Ten Commandments, Beatitudes are words to live by or they’re a little too difficult to apply to real life so don’t worry about it) and cultural differences (men should grow beards, you can use pianos in services but not guitars)?

I’m trying to understand your viewpoint, here. If a church is universal, does that mean cultural differences can flourish while doctrinal differences shouldn’t? Does it make a difference what country a person lives in - should not the doctrinal fundamentals be the same?

I’ll be in sporadically today - BTW - saw in the paper the latest aerial photos show the site of the Israeli strike on Syria was the beginning of a smallish nuke facility on the order of the one in N Korea. Speculation is the debris is being cleaned up before any inspection teams are allowed in. That Syrian diplomat last week who said is was nuke related? He misspoke. I don’t think he’s doing much speaking any more!

Buy Danish,

No, I don’t believe in torturing enemy combatants, it’s bad for the country’s image, and is not good for our troops should they be captured.

These people are at war, and I just don’t believe torturing humans for information is efficient or humane, or even necessary. If they are held trial and convicted, then yes, they should rot in prison forever.

I believe in the death penalty, which Rudolph and his comrade Ted, the Unibomber, should have got.

But, Rudolph, he’s one of own, been convicted of horrible crimes (he actually stood trial with a lawyer and everything, remember?) and can rot in jail forever for all I care, along with his Unibomber friend (who surprisingly is in the same prison, I didn’t know that).

Hypocritical, yes, we all are hypocritical to a point, and people who decide to blow up their own fellow citizens just because they have a government grievance are probably the lowest form of human life in my book, well, third to child molestors, and rapists, but yes, I hope he rots forever in his pathetic misery.

Nice cartoon Mike, you’re a talented drawer. My only disagreement with today’s cartoon is that the poll trend line on the paper that Hitlery is holding should be a line that plunges vertically down to the bottom of the charts then flatlines to accurately reflect what a femmenazi Hitlery and Slick Willie Clinton Presidency would be like if a brainwashed plurality (nowhere even remotely near 50%) of the American people were actually stupid enough to elect “it” (femmenazi Hitlery, the Manchurian Candidate) as President. Yeah, I’m in a rare somewhat halfway decent mood today (I actually don’t want to see all liberals wiped off the face of the earth today, just all of them except Joe Liberman) and I know that liberals feel really good about stealing the White House in ‘08, but it’ll never happen. America will never elect a femminazi Marxist/Stalinist (Hitlery Clinton), a serial rapist (Slick Willie Clint) and a closeted Islamafacist Black Supremacist Extremist (BoRAT Osama) as President, co-President and Vice President.

Silly wabbit, November ‘08 is for conservatives!!! Pinko deviants. Go home and change your diaper, pull up your underwear and pull down your skirt, your liberal bias is showing. Punks. I know I’ve mentioned this before ml, but I love the way you draw Bill’s nose. He wears his butt on his shoulders.

Seeing all of the liberals here bragging about how the Democratic candidates are raising more money while questioning the financial backing of Republicans is just too funny. Especially when I saw this:

(((NEW YORK, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Real News Project reports exclusively today that the engineer of George W. Bush’s rescue from financial disaster — a man who would propel Bush on the path to elective office — has quietly moved into Hillary Clinton’s inner circle of key financial backers.)))

(((The engineer is longtime GOP backer Alan Quasha. His mysterious Harken Energy drew intense scrutiny from investigators and the media in the early 90’s and again during Bush’s first term because of its dubious financial practices and board members connected to the corrupt Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI).)))

(((Along with a business partner, Quasha has been forging new links with Clinton and her associates for several years. Among other things, they have raised substantial sums for her, and in 2005 they discreetly hired Clinton confidant and longtime Democratic Party money man Terry McAuliffe, providing him with a lucrative temporary perch until the Clinton campaign formally launched with McAuliffe as its chairman.)))

(((“That Hillary Clinton’s campaign is involved with this particular cast of characters should give people pause,” says John Moscow, a former Manhattan prosecutor. In the late 1980s and early ’90s, Moscow led the investigation of the BCCI global financial empire — which included Harken board members among its prominent shareholders. “Too many of the same names from earlier troubling circumstances suggests a lack of control over who she is dealing with,” says Moscow, “or a policy of dealing with anyone who can pay.”)))

(((In the wake of revelations that Clinton accepted large sums of money from convicted swindler Norman Hsu, her involvement with Quasha and his associates is likely to raise new concerns over major sources of money for her presidential bid.)))

The “progressives” are gonna be FORCED to vote for “BushLite” Hillary. They’ve come “full circle” and ended up right back where they started from.

Good morning Paul,

I don’t think churches are universal. Doctrine, maybe more so, but doctrine should, in my opinion, change with cultural change. To paraphrase Spong, we created God in our own image, not the other way around. The people who wrote the Bible thought the sky was blue and the Earth was flat.

As we evolve as a society, scripture interpretation should change as well. No, not on a whim, but under careful examination. Just like in politics, if you believe everything on one particular platform, I think you aren’t very smart - same with religion - in my opinion, you shouldn’t take every bit of the canon at face value. I think many times, people use religion and scripture to justify the way they think, which I think is dangerous.

My basic belief system of what is right and wrong is based on experience and culture norms and mores, not scripture. Sometimes the issue of what is right and wrong get conflicted, but that’s how we evolve.

I personally have a problem with anyone telling me what to believe or how to believe - especially someone from a totally different culture from where I live.

Some people don’t have those same issues because they fundamentally believe the same thing. The parishes that are breaking away from their particular diocese have the same views as the African bishops (I won’t use the other word so as to not offend the ignorant), and if that’s what they want, then fine.

If not already, I think many churches (I really mean denominations) will eventually face the same kind of issues, at least I hope they do, not because of the turmoil the Episcopal church is facing, but because I think that is how you grow.

Bosch 10:13

Your first two sentences summed it up. Thanks.

I suppose a difference is the way one views “doctrine.” I take a pretty restrictive view - one doesn’t need many digits to list the points. Much of what I hear discussed as “doctrine” is, in my mind, based upon cultural literalness. The scripture interpretation part. Noah as literal, or symbolic? Lot’s wife as a pillar of salt, or representative of not turning away from evil and stopping growth? People can take different views of those things, interpret them differently. No problem. But those are not fundamental issues.

That’s why I listed the view of God. Or the applicability of the Ten Commandments, or the Beatitudes. Or baptism. Or the role of the eucharist. Those strike me as pretty basic, not cultural at all. Whoever repeats it, and where they live, strike me as not an issue. Didn’t Jesus meet the same early on? “Who is this guy with these teachings? He’s from Nazareth!”

So I think the items labeled “doctrine” are pretty few and basic. Rather like a foundation, walls and roof. All the trappings are the cultural item. The consternation arises when people say “take out the walls (doctrine) - they don’t matter” or “the color and style of the furniture (culture) are how we are defined. We just gotta have purple chairs.”

Interesting perspective towards the end of your post. Those parishes “breaking away” are those trying to maintain tradition, while those who remain with the traditional title are changing the fundamentals.

But the good part is, everyone is free to seek their own way. Individualism as a defining aspect of Western Civilization. Thank Heavens!

@@,

That’s fine if you believe that, I respect that, I don’t, and you should respect that too.

Paul,

For one thing, I am a HORRIBLE example for any traditional Christian to follow along. Please do not EVER use my beliefs as what the church believes.

I don’t see it that way, the ones who are remaining with the traditional title are not necessarily changing the fundamentals or the foundation, they are using the traditions and “fundamentals (I hate that word)” to evolve with the culture to agree with their realities.

About traditions, I don’t mind the traditions of the eucharist or the church for that matter, they are all symbolic to me anyway, and I like them. I like the Bishop’s hat and the big stick, they’re cool.

I don’t think at all that you should just rip out the foundations, I think basic principles are essential for any kind of idea. I think that’s where some people get tripped up. I believe in the basic principles of Christianity, but through my experiences, I’ve had to question some of the details.

I know some people have a big problem with questioning things, but I don’t. I believe very few things in this world are absolute.

Mad As Zell,

You are right why would the American People elect a closeted Islamafacist Black Supremacist Extremist like (BoRAT Osama), when we can have another openly Christo-Fascist White Supremacist Extremist similar to George Bush?

I think you’ll agree that BoRAT Osama’s Islamofacism and black supremacy is even more contemptable and dangerous given that his mother is white and that he attends a Christian church. It is amazing what lengths these Islamic Black supremacists will go to hide their ideology. But, of course, we have our own fully black Christo-fascist white supremacist in Clarence Thomas, don’t we? Now he’s a good boy, ain’t he, Zell? Other than the fact that he married a white woman which back in the day people like us would have strung him up for wouldn’t we? Nothing like a good hanging to set things the way God wants them to be is there?

I do think it would benefit the members of this blog for you to list all of the facts of which you are aware that lead you to believe that BoRAT Osama is both a black supremist and a Islamafacist. While I am certain that for people like us the mere fact that he is black is enough to make him a supremist and the fact that he doesn’t carry a former slavemaster’s last name (Brown, Jackson, Johnson, etc…) is enough to conclude he has to be an Islamofascist, the more ignorant on this blog may want to see actual “facts” rather than the rants of the mentally unstable such as we.

BTW: I want to applaud you for your continued postings here. It is rare to see such a combination of ignorance, stupidity, racism, xenophobia and irrationality. If I didn’t know that he had died, I would swear that you were J.B. Stoner. It is because of people like you that we can see why the people who used to lynch, hang and shoot black people back in the 50’s and 60’s have found a home in the conservative movement.

ML, cartoon idea to follow.

{WASHINGTON — With 15 months to go in office, President George W. Bush wants the U.S. Congress to know he has no plans to fade quietly away.}

{He might not have been “dialed in” on a children’s health bill pushed through this month, but, in his own words at a news conference on Wednesday, he’s sprinting to the finish line with the help of a bully pulpit and a veto pen.}

The Democrats must be thinking, “Wow, this just keeps getting better and better and better!”

I have previously predicted that Mr. Bush, arguably the worst President in US history, is more than capable of several other major blunders before he returns to being a windshield cowboy, deep in the heart of Texas.

After six plus years of stumbling around, he had better up his game tremendously if he is going to “sprint” anywhere!

But realistically by the time this commander-in-chief leaves Washington he, no doubt, will have cost his party even more seats in Congress as well as the West Wing itself.

And though many can hardly wait to watch the next and second straight neo-con bloodbath, at least for them it will be enjoyable watching these imploding “new” Republicans free fall even further.

By Right-wing nut job in full glory

John in Tampa, FLA,

You are worried who we will retaliate against? It depends on who does it. I’d say that if it is a bunch of Saudis, we’ll bomb Iran. If its a bunch of Egyptians however, we will bomb Iran. On the other hand, if it is carried out by Pakistanis, we will bomb Iran. Finally, if the attack is carried out by anyone else, we will bomb Iran.

So there are a number of options available to us, including bombing Iran and/or bombing Iran.

Once Fox News and the White House get together and “catapult the propaganda” as the President has said, at least 50% of the people will believe that Iran was involved in or ordered the attack whether that is actually true or not.

Given that Osama wants us to continue to spend blood and treasure in the Middle East while fighting on their ground, I would not doubt that there will be an October surprise terror attack that will feed right into the GOP fear campaign. And given that only a GOP candidate would have the balls to assure a retaliation against Iran, we’ll probably win the next election too.

Of course, if we aren’t hit again, it will likely assure a Dem. victory, so as Fox News has promoted, we need another 9/11 to focus our attention. Hopefully, we’ll be lucky enough to get one. I know I have my fingers crossed as I’d much rather have thousands of dead Americans than Hitlery as President.

Bosch, I have posted numerous times that I am not a big fan of the Democratic Party. For several reasons.

But they are a two-edged sword. Undeniably, liberalism has created some of the greatest successes in this country as well as some of the most excessive failures.

Conservatism has provided but one benefit that I can see - by acting as a moderating brake or throttle on some of the excesses.

But the reactionaries offer no real way forward, but rather a anti-progress agenda and futile attempts to go back to the past - ending abortion, prayer in schools, belicose militarism, etc, etc, etc…

And yes I understand and share your rightful concern about one party having too much control, especially based on the debacle that we just went through with the neo-cons.

But unfortunately the reality for me is that this version of the GOP is hands down the worst thing to have hit this country politically - ever.

I know that sounds dramatic, but the results speak for themselves and that is why I have no real choice but to support ANYONE who will marginalize them.

Why? Because the biggest part of their entire neo-conservative ideology is basically repulsive to me, and apparently many millions of other Americans as well.

With that said, I have also mentioned that I believe it IS the GOP that offers the most hope for the nation. But I’m talking about a sane, healthy party of vision and courage - not this train wreck that has evolved from Reagan and Gingrich.

When they swear off this ridiculous, failed world view of theirs, and replace it with reasoned and reasonable alternatives, watch how people move away from the Democrats and towards them by the droves.

I hope my grandchildren enjoy that day.

Why do you suppose the so called “fairness” doctrine doesn’t include any of the liberal biased information outlets such as the major network news agencies (you know, the ones not doing very well these days…) or our beloved AJC who couldn’t find a conservative employee if their declining readership depended on it?

Why do you suppose it only includes outlets generally considered to be conservative based? What might someone be trying to accomplish with such a transparent motive?

When the Unfairness doctrine passes, we’ll be very close to state run media folks and even a shallow thinking liberal should be able to study enough history to figure out what the dangers of that are.

What an amazing ballplayer Manny Ramirez be! I refuse to watch any world series without Ramirez in it.

I still think umpires have totally ruined baseball with that expanded strike zone. The rule book is clear.

I’ve never been able to tell offensive from defensive fouls in football or basketball collisions.

He was playing the ball…. Whoever occupied the space first….. He had his feet planted.

This is why sports blows. They play for sixty minutes and then it comes down to an interference call and a field goal or free throw.

By Mrs. Godzilla

October 19, 2007 3:06 PM | Link to this

Dusty,

It certainly was an interesting interpretation of the term fundamentalist.

I did find one definition, see 3 below.

(sometimes initial capital letter) a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record, holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines as the creation of the world, the virgin birth, physical resurrection, atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and the Second Coming. the beliefs held by those in this movement. strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles: the fundamentalism of the extreme conservatives.

While the sentence example uses the term conservatives I am sure it could be stretched to include liberals.

Certainly not a main stream use, but acceptable.

I know your point of view on some things, to be sure. I would, however, never presume to know all of them. You are a complex individual are you not?

Perhaps, you did not see above where I mentioned I knew what applause was.

Yes, please keep it simple.

I don’t think many R’s have any problems with Rep. Stark being able to have an opinion contrary to that of the President, but the manner in which he expressed his opinion was that of an extremely low class individual and not befitting an elected official of his lofty position. Imagine your reaction if someone on the street just walked up to you and spoke to you the way he spoke. Would that be ok with you or would you be offended and think he were out of line?

What’s worse is the liberals in this country don’t see anything wrong with these methods of governing. There appears to no longer exist a standard of moral decency in the Democratic party and it’s just plain sickening. Anything goes… Sad… It’s no wonder the majority of people in this country who have no moral foundation vote for these clowns.

For me, one of the more intriguing aspects of this campaign is the element of the “Christian” “conservative” wing of the GOP.

Sam Brownback, a Jayhawker who probably would have loved to see creationism replace actual science in Kansas classrooms, and was probably the closest to a far-right darling for them on the GOP slate, is toast.

But that still leaves the “compassionate conservatives” with Rudy, Mitt and large Fred.

But… Rudy is a near total RINO on social issues and Mitt is a flip-flopping opportunist of a RINO.

The bottom line is I don’t trust this president and his advisors.

Make no mistake, we are voting on a resolution that grants total authority to the president, who wants to invade a sovereign nation without any specific act of provocation. This would authorize the United States to act as the aggressor for the first time in our history. I see our moronic Commander in Chief still can’t tell friend from foe. Why, he loves those Saudi Arabians (and NOT for their oil, I’m sure), even though the Saudis educated and bankrolled the 9/11 hijackers. Heck, nearly ALL the hijackers were Saudis. Since then, the Saudis have been providing money, weapons and men to Sunni insurgents in Iraq who consider it an honor to off an American. And despite Saudi promises to overhaul its educational system to eliminate references to the US as an international war criminal and a threat to world peace, the Saudi funded lies continue throughout the Muslim world.

And even the non-Muslim world. Even in the US:

U.S. Commission Wants Saudi-Funded School Closed Until Textbooks Can Be Reviewed

But such duplicity doesn’t deter or sub-moronic President, who sees gold…. er, oil in them there Saudi hills… er, sand:

Right. And Pakistan, with its hiding of bin Ladin and co. is our bosom buddy, too.

Meanwhile, thanks to the dumpkopf in chief, we remained mired in Iraq, a nation that before 9/11 had little to do with anti-US terror and absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. What stupidity. What a waste. Lavishing praise on people who want you dead while killing people who just wish you’d go away.

And More from Pete Stark

“WASHINGTON – Representative Pete Stark (D-CA) tonight responded to President Bush’s Iraq policy address:

“Nearly four years old, President Bush’s War in Iraq has been an abysmal failure,” said Stark. “The war has cost more than $400 billion and taken the lives of more than 3,000 brave American troops and countless Iraqis. Time and time again, President Bush and Republicans in Congress made false claims about our supposed progress, only to have the situation on the ground get worse and worse. Today, our troops remain in harms way, even as Iraq has spiraled into civil war.”

“In his address, President Bush committed to more of the same – more troops, more wishful thinking, and more empty slogans,” Stark continued. “Bush didn’t offer a new strategy, he offered new spin. Republicans have repeatedly promised the Iraqis would soon take control of their own security. But the presence of American troops has made and will continue to make such an outcome less likely.”

“Enough is enough. It is past time Congress takes America’s best interests into its own hands. I oppose escalation and, given the opportunity, will vote against providing billions in funding to deploy thousands of additional troops. Rather than send more servicemen and women to die in Iraq, we should serve the will of the American people and bring all of our troops home,” Stark concluded.”

NEW YORK (AP) — The Dow Jones industrial average dropped more than 360 points Friday — the anniversary of the Black Monday crash 20 year ago — as renewed credit concerns, lackluster corporate earnings, and rising oil prices spooked investors.

And just WHOSE hands were on the wheel 20 years ago? Why Ronnie Raygun and his court jester, GEORGE BUSH the elder, of course.

Anybody get the message that Republicans mindlessly run a hot uncontrolled economy when they are in office so they can pump up their corporate owners short-term profits? No worry though, the Democrats are still here to clean up the mess after the meltdown this time, too! The more things change, the more they stay the same!

GOPhers think that they can legislate themselves some good economic numbers with their big, Big, BIG Republican government. Too bad they just ain’t got the smarts to work on delicate machinery.

Mrs. G, great stuff from Stark at 4:13. He is dead on with his analysis of the incompetent neo-cons in this matter.

Let’s summarize:

abysmal failure

false claims

situation on the ground worse and worse

spiral into civil war

Bush - more troops, more wishful thinking, and more empty slogans

No new strategies, just new spin

Republicans have repeatedly promised that Iraqis…

Yep, sounds about right to me.

In other words - a clusterf@ck.

And all the neo-cons have are much gnashing of teeth and the fact that it just absolutely kills them that a Democratic President prosecuted an extremely effective military campaign with lasting beneficial results while all they can do is sidestep around and/or spin/deny that their practically AWOL hero of the Texas ANG screws up everything he touches regarding this horribly mismanaged occupation.

Deadly and incompetent - what a combination. And what a Republican legacy.

Paul @ 4:57:

Funny cartoon! “Does a hobo like ham sandwiches?”

I have figured out who YOU are and what YOU’VE been doing.

You’re George Friedman of Stratfor. He wrote an article today that reiterates everything you’ve said.

“Geopolitical Diary: Revisiting Oil”

Bush/Cheney are not in Iraq for the OIL regardless of what people think. Went into a little detail that discounts that assertion.

Venezuela would have been an easier resource to tap into — before Hugo of course.

Even in a world in which we obtained 100 percent of our energy from renewable sources — industrial uses for oil alone would likely prevent global demand from dropping by more than half of its current level.

Oil is of critical importance to any country that considers economic stability and growth a necessity. So the U.S. is invested as the global superpower — it has an interest in preventing a single power from controlling the Persian Gulf region.

It stands to reason that Putin wouldn’t want Ahmadenijad to have that single power either but he is convenient for Putin’s rise to former glory and influence.

So the increase in oil prices? The Arab states have used their newfound wealth to purchase social quietude; the Russians, to regenerate their defense industry. Japan and China? What’ll they do for oil?

How much will Bush be willing to pay to call Putin on his winning hand?

We shall see…

Look at THAT poker face.

LOLOL! Friedman reads Lucko’s blog! I oughta be a consultant for him! LOL!

Seriously, there is a confusion of terms. “We’re there for the oil” is often interpreted as “we have military and corporations over there and everything we do is to guided by our desire keep our gas pumps full and our income statements looking good.”

That is conceptually different than the writing you cited. Taken from a slightly different angle - how long will Putin exercise leverage over Ahmadinejad? Are those nuke plants really a “turn key” operation? (Build it, train the Iranians, then leave) or one that requires continuing Russian involvement? Remember the sophisticated air defense weapons contract? You can rest assured the training, parts supplies and maintenance aren’t solely Iranian. And if the history of embassies is any example, I’d trust our folks are working on ways to hack into the monitoring devices the Russians wouldn’t dream of installing in the facilities.

Hi Paul,

{{Like I said, their influence is on the wane and the Republican Party is hopefully moving on. On the other hand, the ascendency in the Democratic Party}}

Historically the Democrats have always done well with Catholics, Jews and yes, even many Protestants.

But these are not to be even remotely confused with these rabid, unreasonable extremists and charlatans/frauds like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Hal Lindsey, Charles Colson, Ralph Reed, Roy Moore, Fred Phelps, ad nauseum…

The worst of these repressive nuts have a very specific and backwards looking agenda, a spiritual warfare, that is at odds with the vast majority of mainstream Americans, if not the great traditional secularist American values and mores themselves such as personal liberty, tolerance, rational thought, enlightenment and accomodation.

And no longer will the twisted phrases like “family values”, “pro-life” and “compassionate conservatives” ring true or have any real significance with most Americans. Only with the remaining “faithful”.

I can’t imagine the Dems ever courting these quasi-theocrats and it may well be true that the GOP, now embroiled in a teenage-like identity crisis, in an effort to claim the reasoned and reasonable center may choose to essentially ignore them. I think this scenario is highly unlikely but for the sanity and health of the Republican Party, lets hope so.

But with many voices repudiating this crazy agenda this neo-con GOP can be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Political parties, like everything else, evolve (RW - pleeese, don’t go there…). My point was that by diminishing the influence of what was once a source of power the Republicans can broaden their appeal - after all, this is a tussle about the social views of the Republican frontrunners. Distancing themselves from many of Bush’s policies shouldn’t be all that difficult - one can make a case that the performance did not reflect historic principles of the Party. When the anathema towards Bush diminishes (and many Dems still sound like they’re running against him in ‘08) this could bring a resurgence.

Rather seems like Dems are repeating Rep history. There’s a group well financed, connected (altho nothing like the Rep social conservatives) who also portrays themselves as the “true soul” of the Party (they probably use a nonreligious term) :-) They too will continue to alienate many of the voters - but given the money that keeps funneling in, and the almost messianic complexes of some of their leaders (messianic without the gift of prophecy?) :-) they could be around a while longer than their Rep counterpart.

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Phelps protested Hillary Clinton during a campaign speech in support of the Clinton-Gore ticket at the University of Kansas on October 14, 1992. In Bill Clinton’s second presidential campaign, Phelps and the Westboro church also opposed Clinton and Gore because of the administration’s support for gay rights. The entire Westboro congregation picketed a 1997 inaugural ball, denouncing Gore as a “famous f@g p!mp.” In 1998, Westboro picketed the funeral of Gore’s father, screaming vulgarities at Gore and telling him, “your dad’s in Hell.”

In the aftermath of the election, in an incident that would be repeated years later when Phelps circulated a petition to outlaw homosexual work protection, many of the Kansas Democrats who had cast votes for Phelps came forward to express their distaste for him. They said that Phelps had lied about his intentions to numerous constituents, using double-talk and fuzzy language to confuse them; neglected to mention his stances on race, religion, and homosexuality, and campaigned mainly on the platform of a “good ol’ boy” Southern gentleman and retired lawyer unfairly prosecuted by the system.

Let’s see a show of conservative cyber hands. How many of you are miffed at being included in that “most of us know…” statement that has Stunty crying on his tofu or do you agree that most of us know?

Speaking on neo-con cretins from the Sunflower state:

TOPEKA, Kan. — To abortion opponents, Phill Kline is a standard bearer. For abortion rights activists, he’s a dangerous ideologue.

Last year, GQ magazine called him the future of the anti-abortion movement, while Planned Parenthood put him on a list of 15 Americans it saw as major threats to abortion rights.

And despite losing his bid to remain Kansas’ attorney general last November, Kline’s credentials as a champion of the anti-abortion movement remain solid. He delivered the keynote address at the National Right to Life Committee’s convention in June in Kansas City, Mo.

“The soil of Kansas is stained red,” he told the gathering. “Abortion is sin, and sin always begins with a lie.”

The face of the Republican party - Kansas style!

The ACLU supports Phelps.

(((ST. LOUIS – July 21, 2006 – The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri filed a lawsuit today on behalf of Shirley L. Phelps-Roper, a member of a controversial conservative Christian church, claims a Missouri law infringes on her rights to religious liberty and free speech.)))

Said they oughta be able to picket during soldier’s funerals.

Went to bat for her again when caught desecrating an American flag.

He’s a big fan of Fidel Castro and wrote a complimentary letter to Saddam Hussein.

I see ^^^ a lot of links between Phelps and liberals but nothing that links him to conservatives.

I know I read somewhere that one of his daughters-in-law had been a lawyer with the ACLU.

That “test who’s your real candidate” thing freaks out most people who take it. I’ll bet the candidates would be just as freaked if they knew who their real “supporters” were!

Pleasant weekend, all -

Valeria Plame is back. Seems she was undercover and working on keeping Iran from getting nukes by delivering poison pill blueprints. Rove exposed her, Cheney exposed her, Bush exposed her, and Iran knew better than to trust the recipe she gave them and the whole operation went bust.

That’s treason. I demand the resignation of George W Bush effective noon tomorrow. Ditto Cheney. Let the Speaker run things till the election next year.

Rove belongs behind bars, and I insist someone arrest him now.

Make sure they watch all the way to the end so they see what the western shore really is.

Dang, I forgot we’re talking about trying to reason with those devoted adherents to attention to detail.

Their love for the scientific method and mathematics gives them a unique insight that enables them to perform feats unknown even to Einstein himself.

So these remaining 30% of Americans who still are Bush apologists think they are MOST of us!!

Good luck with that and a good evening to all!

I stopped reading AmVet’s posts awhile back. Was there something I haven’t read a hundred times before?

Anything of interest?

Most of US HERE, Blohard, most of US<——-the conservatives——HERE<——-at the scribblers blog——

Since you can write the most mind numbingly boring and lengthy manifestos, even though they often say nothing, you would think you could read AND comprehend one simple sentence.

Then again I wouldn’t understand where you’re coming from. I’ve never been a self-centered egotistical jacka$$.

/Don’t the MOST of US wish there was time to see the heads exploding over that last paragraph? :-)

@@,

His 6:38 that he “forgot” to add to his 6:19, as if any of his posts need more drivel attached, referencing my 5:22. It’s amusing that he’s taken on the debating tactics of a three year old that can’t leave well enough alone, but thinks if he doesn’t type your name you can’t see him. Weird huh?

Well one of AmVet’s revered “scientists”, Dr. James Watson did write a book about him…

Avoid Boring People: Lessons from a Life in Science.

Watson’s an idiot — a Nobel Prize winner, but an idiot just the same.

I think he was pretty much on target with that book about AmVet though.

Either we need to avoid his boring posts or he needs to avoid boring people to death WITH his posts.

(((Weird huh?))) Yep, weird indeed!

(((thinks if he doesn’t type your name you can’t see him.)))

Kinda like if he changes his name from Huge (Blowhard) his overbearing arrogance will be missed???

Gives himself waaaaayyy too much credit under his “assumed” name once again.
