Um, most countries do leave after they are victorious.
The British aren’t occupiers, duh.
~~~~~~~
Further proof that we need to do everything in our power to elect a Republican president, so that they can appoint judges that do not overturn the will of the majority:
{{{{Illegal hiring ID plan blocked- Judge rejects Bush plan to force employers to root out workers with phony IDs.-Urinal}}}}
Bush’s plan?
Bush would like nothing better than to throw open the border and flood the business community with cheap slave labor, remember the “amnesty bill,” AJC?
It’s pathological the way the liberals at the Urinal lie and play word games, they just simply do not respect their readership at all.
The vast majority of U.S. CITIZENS, legal CITIZENS, want our government to get control of our borders and one of the most efficient ways to do this is to deny work to those who are not citizens.
This is a slap in the face to our sovereignty as a nation, it endangers our population by letting terrorists enter our country at will, and most of all, it undermines the Will of the People, which is the foundation for law under our Constitution.
So what interests is this pinko left wing POS judge representing?
~~~~~~~
{{{{When Sen. Reid attacked Mr. Limbaugh on the floor of the Senate, some felt that Mr. Limbaugh was a big boy and perfectly capable of defending himself. I’m not so sure. If Mr. Limbaugh and his critics at Media Matters want to have a street fight, that’s their business. But Sens. Reid and Salazar aren’t just a couple of opinionated guys; they are agents of state authority, and they were leaning hard on Mr. Limbaugh. If you are Media Matters, if you are a man or woman of the Left, does state pressure on someone’s political speech discomfort you? Or is it a welcome, even defensible, repression of harmful right-wing speech?}}}}
Think about this for a moment; the government FUNDS the speech of Bill Moyers and others on National Pinko Radio but now the government wants to CENSOR the free speech rights of those it disagrees with.
And the next time you hear a liberal whining and moaning about “government invasion of privacy,” whether it concerns al Qaeda telephone calls or pornography, just think about who really are the ones that are “invading privacy.”

The hatred that Repugs have for the already-born children is neverending — they lie and they attack, no matter that the kid is 12 years old and a survivor of a coma:
One critic, in an e-mail message to Graeme’s mother, Bonnie, warned: “Lie down with dogs, and expect to get fleas.” As it turns out, the Frosts say, Graeme attends the private school on scholarship. The business that the critics said Mr. Frost owned was dissolved in 1999. The family’s home, in the modest Butchers Hill neighborhood of Baltimore, was bought for $55,000 in 1990 and is now worth about $260,000, according to public records. And, for the record, the Frosts say, their kitchen counters are concrete.

Since the neo-cons have no earthly idea what constitutes “victory”, why not do like the blokes and just declare it and then leave?
As for the howling in the wind earlier about let’s do everything in our power to elect a Republican President, all I can say, is good luck with that one!
Only the more brain dead here would want more of the same GOP neo-con incompetence.
ITN, though I respect the information and commentary you provide, I wonder why you do engage our “friends” on the far right.
Many here, including myself, have found it to be a complete waste of time and have little if anything to do with the worst of the worst anymore.
Not because of the differing opinions or information provided but, as you are beginning to see, it is well nigh impossible to have rational discussions with such irrational people.
Throw in a handful of churlish temper tantrums and endless personal insults and vitriol and you have the perfect recipe for what the extremists here consider thoughtful blogging.
But generally, civil discourse, common courtesy and even a modicum of respect is of tremendous difficulty for those on the fringes.
Fortunately they are but a tiny few in number here and are outnumbered by a very large margin.
As are they in the general American population.
Off to go pay for the “war on terrorism”!

Luckoduh,
Thanks for the link to the WSJ piece.
This was news to me:
While Mr. Limbaugh fought off the Democratic Senate in one corner, the commentator Juan Williams also found his speech and job status under pressure from Media Matters. In the same week that Mr. Williams, a Fox commentator, appeared on Bill O’Reilly’s show to speak critically of black culture, his bosses at NPR rejected a White House request to have Mr. Williams interview President Bush on race.
{{{In a Media Matters posting on all this, Eric Boehlert wrote that “real damage is being done to NPR by having its name, via Williams, associated with Fox News’ most opinionated talker.” Noting that Mr. Williams supported Clarence Thomas’s nomination, Mr. Boehlert said there are “better advocates for genuinely liberal positions,” and suggested “now is the time for [NPR] to address the growing problem.”}}}

John in Tampa Speaking of Turkey - the Congress proclaimed yesterday that Turkey committed genocide during WWI, now I think we’ve made them mad. That’s going to have a significant effect on our war effort.
I’m sort of torn about that:
One one hand I think- dammit Congress, what are you thinking? That was nearly 100 years ago. You are jeopardizing the soldiers we have over there.
Then on the other hand I think - well, maybe if Turkey doesn’t let us use their country to go in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan, maybe we’ll be forced to bring them home.
Was that a passive agressive move by the Congress?
But then again, our relations with Turkey haven’t been all that lately anyway ——-

More from the WSJ piece, which gets to the heart of the fallacy that liberals believe in free speech:
Just last November, in an admiring essay for the Chronicle of Higher Education, the left polemicist Stanley Fish aptly summed up Marcuse’s assertion that “liberal” notions of tolerance for political speech should be overturned. The rationale for this notion is that standard tolerance is rigged against the left.
In other words, achieve your goals by any means necessary and it’s perfectly fine if you trample on the Bill of Rights in the process.
What’s amazing to me is that they don’t even feel a need to keep these dangerous ideas in the closet anymore. They know that the netroots will cheer them on, and candidates know that their funding depends largely on the support of these Stalinists.

The Brits are leaving? Hell, they did that months ago, only thing left now is a token force anyway. No country is maintaining any military presence in Iraq that is anything other than lip-service.
By FAILING to acquire backing from the UN before invasion, King George insured that we would fight this war (and get the blame for it) all by our lonesome. Blair was an idiot for skipping blindly down the Chimperor’s Iraqi ‘Yellow Brick Road’! Britains new prime minister is not a Bush Toady so even the token Brits are now leaving.
Isn’t it great how swimmingly Republican cowboy politics always work out. But what the hell, they NEVER had any intention of winning in Iraq, just occupying and dragging out withdrawal as long as inhumanly possible so their good buddies in big, Big, BIG business and industry could make a few more war bucks. That was proven when we learned so many times in so many ways that THERE WAS NEVER A PLAN TO WIN!!!!!
Republicans just needed a war to hitch onto in order to shore up the inevitable failure of the American economic sector that Republican supply side economics always brings sans war and to give carte blanche to the Republican wet-dream of creating big, Big, BIG government to work hand-in-hand with Republican big, Big, BIG business.
Republican war profiteers have already made their nut over the bloated and rotting corpses of brave American men and women fallen on the battlefield. Let’s move on a until the next time the uninformed masses can be persuaded to turn-over the reins of power to a new generation of right-wing corporate welfare recipients.

Britain’s decision to bring half of its 5,000 soldiers home from Iraq by spring is the latest blow to the U.S.-led coalition. The alliance is crumbling, and fast: excluding Americans, the multinational force was once 50,000 strong — by mid-2008, it will be down to 7,000.
Too bad the Republicans piissed away UN support. Anybody wonder if the Republican FAILURE to plan to win wasn’t just really a veiled plan to fail! Republican war-bucks profiteers get to sell bunches of war junk for decades to come, now. Mission Accomplished.

{{{{“I have no doubt that the work that we are doing in this vital area is having an extremely positive effect on increasing the Iraqi Army capability and is helping to set the conditions necessary for Multi-National Forces to hand over Basra to Provincial Iraqi Control in November.”}}}}

NEWSBOY,
Thanks for the Media Matters link - It is very revealing:
In fact, Williams’ recent appearance on The O’Reilly Factor almost certainly violated NPR’s employee standards, which prohibit staffers from appearing on programs that “encourage punditry and speculation rather than fact-based analysis” and are “harmful to the reputation of NPR.”
Bwahahahahahaha. What a crock.
{{{Evidence suggests that, behind the scenes, NPR is not happy about Williams’ relationship with Fox News. If so, now is the time for the network to address the growing problem./Public broadcasting guidelines clearly state that when appearing on outside programs “journalists should not express views they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist.”}}}
No sir, NPR does not allow journalists to speak their mind unless it toes the Pinko Progressive Party line. Fox does allow you to speak your mind and the Kommissars will not tolerate that breach.
More of the same indignation:
{{{Complaints about Williams’ alliance with Fox News are not new. For years he has drawn criticism from liberals who protest his weekly appearances on the more grown-up Fox News Sunday, arguing there are better advocates for genuinely liberal positions than Williams, who, for instance, was a supporter of Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court nomination.}}}
How dare Juan Williams have opinions that are not shared by the elites at NPR?

These values are rooted in culture, religion, history and tradition. When a society does not have boundaries, where are the shared values to be found? Why do bleating libs always get behind a loser like Gore?
Democratic strategist and longtime Gore adviser Michael Feldman, who is not working on a presidential campaign, said he doesn’t see Gore jumping in the race.
[[“Everything he’s said publicly and privately indicates that he’s not planning a campaign,” said Feldman.]]
[[That’s a sentiment echoed by Carter Eskew, chief strategist for the Gore 2000 presidential campaign.]]
[[If Gore wins the Nobel Prize, Eskew said, “I think it will certainly increase efforts like you saw in the paper, but I really don’t think it’ll have any impact on him at all. I think he’s on a different path right now.”]]
[[But Gore supporters are holding out hope.]]
That egomaniacal daddy’s boy from Tennessee is riding too high on his own fat a* to give his sacrificial lambs a second thought.
When a british judge looks at Gore he sees b****** but then libs do thrive on b******. Nothing new about that.
A judge in Britain’s High Court has ruled that Gore’s apocalyptic movie on climate change, An Inconvenient Truth, should come with a warning that it promotes “partisan political views” and is riddled with errors.

[The Scaifes’ marital troubles first gained public attention on Dec. 22, 2005, with what Mrs. Scaife’s lawyers characterize in their brief as “cruel, calculated acts toward Wife by Husband as punishment for her detection” of Mr. Scaife’s alleged affair.
“On December 22nd in the late afternoon, Wife, in an attempt to confirm Husband’s ongoing affair, appeared at the home of her Husband, peered in his residence window to confirm” whether the other woman was with Mr. Scaife. “Wife was arrested under an absurd trespass charge, handcuffed and transported to the County Jail, where she was incarcerated overnight in a grim holding cell,” Mrs. Scaife’s attorneys wrote. Another fine Christian:
OCTOBER 8—An Alabama minister who died in June of “accidental mechanical asphyxia” was found hogtied and wearing two complete wet suits, including a face mask, diving gloves and slippers, rubberized underwear, and a head mask, according to an autopsy report. Investigators determined that Rev. Gary Aldridge’s death was not caused by foul play and that the 51-year-old pastor of Montgomery’s Thorington Road Baptist Church was alone in his home at the time he died (while apparently in the midst of some autoerotic undertaking). While the Montgomery Advertiser, which first obtained the autopsy records, reported on Aldridge’s two wet suits, the family newspaper chose not to mention what police discovered inside the minister’s rubber briefs. Aldridge served as the church’s pastor for 16 years. Immediately following his death, church officials issued a press release asking community members to “please refrain from speculation” about what led to Aldridge’s demise, adding that, “we will begin the healing process under the strong arm of our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

From Editor & Publisher: Appearing on Donny Deutsch’s CNBC show, “The Big Idea,” on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren’t any Jewish people and that they had “perfected” themselves into — Christians.
It led Deutsch to suggest that surely he couldn’t mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded “anti-Semitic.”
Asked by Deutsch regarding whether she wanted to be like “the head of Iran” and “wipe Israel off the Earth,” Coulter stated: “No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. … That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament.”

The resolution condemning Turkey for genocide nearly 100 years ago got out of the Foreign relations committee and has not been scheduled for a floor vote in the House, much less the Senate so there is no resolution that has passed the Congress binding or not.
Al Gore was supposed to be in California at a fund raiser today. Barbara Boxer sent out a memo saying it had been rescheduled because Gore had been called out of the country for a major event concerning global warming. Want to bet whether that’s to collect his Nobel prize?

From the leader of the Senate:
“…anti-Christian…” As in “against Christianity itself.” It doesn’t get much plainer than that. In Harry Reid’s world, “the people from the Christian far right” are more anti-Christian than the Communist government in China that persecutes Christians, the atheists who regularly smear Christians and the Muslim governments and jihadists who routinely murder Christians from Sudan to Pakistan. They are less anti-Christian, in Harry Reid’s world, than I am.

It looks as if the GOP front runners are going to be spending lots of time and energy on their knees in order to satisfy the religious nut jobs that have recently defined such a large and overly influential part of their base.
While the rest of the country looks on and says no thanks.
IMHO, the GOP is really screwed on this one.
{{GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani is virtually “indistinguishable” from Hillary Clinton on core social issues, according to Tony Perkins, head of the influential conservative Family Research Council.}}
{{Perkins said that the former New York City mayor simply cannot bring together the “three key elements” of the Republican Party — social conservatism, fiscal conservatism, and a strong national defense.}}
{{“I don’t envision the majority of social conservatives moving toward a pro-abortion candidate,” Perkins said. “This issue runs strong. Singing the ABC song — ‘anybody but Clinton’ — will not be enough.”}}
{{“My experience is you don’t beat a liberal with a moderate. You have a lack of enthusiasm. People will not get excited by Giuliani.”}}
{{Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson gives Perkins’ group pause because of his stand on gay marriage. Thompson has said the issue should be dealt with on the state level, not with a federal constitutional amendment.}}
{{“His position does not satisfy us. It would not prevent judges from redefining marriage or stop one state from forcing it on another state,” Perkins said. “This does not remove him from consideration. He’s been clear on his support for marriage, but he has not come around to a full solution to the problem.”}}
{{Perkins downplayed reports that the religious right may seek an alternate candidate outside the Republican Party — reports spurred by statements at a meeting of evangelical leaders earlier this fall.}}
{{“I was at that meeting and I think it’s been misconstrued a little bit,” he said. “It was not a declaration to create a third party. It was a proclamation that there is a line we would not cross, and that line is life.}}

RW, Oh calm down. What I meant earlier was that even if the resolution had/has/whatever passed, it would be non-binding. I just heard about the resolution last night on BBC, I did not know that it hadn’t passed.
But now that you mentioned the Foreign Relations Committee, now I remember all seeing all the committe members in the story piece. They were the same people who gave the long wind bag speeches before Petraeus testified.
I would not have even thought about it again, if John from Tampa hadn’t mentioned Turkey to begin with.

While I once believed that Governor George Wallace had it right, that there was not a dime’s worth of difference in the parties; that is not longer true. I have come to realize the Democrats really do care about people who most need help from government; Republicans care most about those who will only get richer because of government help. The government is truly broken, particularly in dealing with national security, and another four years, and heaven forbid not eight years, under the Republicans, and our grandchildren will have to build a new government, because the one we have will be unrecognizable and unworkable.”

Well RW,
When you put it that way, nothing.
But I think the moral questions Al Gore has raised in the national and international arena regarding the proper use of our natural resources and stewardship of our planet makes him eligible.
(doesn’t that just make you want to throw up?)
Just found this: “Alfred Nobel wrote in his will that the peace prize was to be given “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”’
I think Al Gore’s message has brought a fraternity between nations in battling global warming and finding solutions on an international scale to combat this problem.
I know you disagree, but apparently those who choose the Noble Peace Prize disagree with you, and so do I.
Bankrupting America is the least of our worries if just an iota of what scientists say is true about global warming.

Getalife,
It is like watching a trainwreck. Bush was absolutely right to try and quash this bill.
This is like a playbook on how to START a world war. Open GOP threats on Syria and Iran. Israeli threats to Syria and Iran. Dem threats to Pakistan. Now we have an insult being leveled at Turkey, for no benefit, that would push them further away from the US. What is the US military response when Turkey rolls into Kurdistan? The one somewhat calm and functioning piece of Iraq is now in a state of much greater threat.

Actually, bosch, if you showed any logic I would recognize it.
But…(for others) I am interested in this Turkish genocide bill which at this point is only a resolution adopted by the (Democratic-led) House of Representative Foreign Affairs Committee. It has NOT been voted on by the whole chamber. Discussion will probably come up in November.
Against the wishes of the President, Sec. Gates, the ambassador to Turkey, Sec. Rice and others; Democratic House Leader Pelosi says she will bring it to the floor.
Turks are very upset at the prospect of this resolution passing. The Turkish ambassador has returned home. There is the probability that Turkey could shut down one of the largest US airbases in the Middle East, a major supply point to Iraq.
President Abdullah Gul of Turkey said that this is a “petty game of domestic politics”.
I think he is correct. What we have here is another Democratic led resolution to disrupt any American effort in Iraq. Another “support the troops” move by Democrats.

Bosch — Turks committed genocide. The fact that they are not happy about the rest of the world realizing it does not detract from that fact. I have had an Armenian roommate, and for that whole country that is still an open wound, much like the Holocaust is still an open wound for us Jews. Germany has come to terms with its past. To a certain degree so has Russia. It won’t hurt Turkey too much to do the same.
I fail to see how not having Turkey as a “stepping stone” is a terrible problem. Maybe that will make us less likely to invade.
The lecture was pretty great, actually. Penrose is a good lecturer, and while I did not understand large chunks of the lecture (I still have no idea what he means by “conformal transformation of spacetime”), it was interesting. It was also, quite possibly, complete BS, since it dealt with his ideas of what came “before” Big Bang, but it had interesting ideas to ponder.

I have to agree — The Turkey resolution should not have even been brought to the floor in congress. This is a very bad political hot potatoe.
1) Turkey is militarily in a stop-gap location between Russia and the mideast, and has always walked a fine line of diplomacy between world powers. It is not wise to make them enemys of the USA.
2) This resolution has no place being brought up in USA congress as we really have no jurisdiction to dictate world affairs of this nature, nor should we. This is an issue that should reside with international courts and the U.N. only..
3) It will serve absoultly no benefit to the USA and it’s citizens, it will only serve to make issues worse for us in the mid-east.
But sadly it will now be used as a political punching bag.
I guess the sentiments could be expressed thusly:
Turkey and Iran! Play Nice! Or else we will bring Democracy to YOUR countries TOO!…

30% of the fuel used by our troops in Iraq is transported through an airbase in Turkey not to mention 95% of the new Mind Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles our guys need to protect them from IEDs.

First RW — It’s only Thomas/PNAC… always has been…. So get over it!

OK!…??
Now the other issue - is we really must understand in this country that Turkey is extremely important as a strategic location in the world and having Turkey friendly - or even a “Switzerland Nuetral” is vital to the security of the United States forces in the middle east, and NATO. And this is a point known by all countries in the middle east and Russia and China.
If you rile up Turkey and they break from all treaties, agreements, trade, etc… then you will really see a disaster in the middle east powder keg, and that would be something we could never fix. It would be very bad for the USA and we might as well pack up and go home and become the new Iron Curtain country.
Since we seem to be heading back to “Cold War” status with Russia again, then we better start gathering our allies again and not lose any we still have left. And Turkey is an important ally. Now that is something that the Bush administration failed at. Diplomacy!
Yes what happened in the case of the Armenians was definitly wrong, and it is but one attrocity in the world today amongst many. But again the USA should not get in the middle of this issue, and we should only support the issue in spirit in the U.N. and World courts. We have got to quit being the world police! It was enjoyable watching Carter talk about the neo-con characteristic of simply redefining something/anything so as to not violate the standard accepted definition.
His example was on torture. Bush’s train wreck of an administration says we don’t torture. How? By redefining torture and completely ignoring the standards prescribed and universally accepted among modern nations for over 60 years through various internationally accepted treaties including the Geneva Convention, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, etc.
No wonder the intellectually-challenged “faithful” on this blog try it so often.
Just make sh!t up as you go along and hope people don’t catch it.

Like even if he did know where OBL is located, that he’d know how to organize the offensive that would nail OBL.
I have no faith in the current crop of generals in the army or the marines to execute a plan to attack OBL. We simply dont have the talent to get Bin Laden.
Get Osama: This requires a total rethink of tactics on both the strategic and tactical level. You’d need trained bats, with firebombs attached to them, to find the caves where he might be and let him have it. In WW2, we had a trained bat corp that could do just that.
Why not afghanistan? We simply let the bats smell some beard dye, to give them a sense of where to focus their radar, and bats away!

Though the gutless chickenhawks and neo-cons here support the war, do not mistake that for supporting the troops.
Just look at how some here practically take glee over the fact that the hero of the Texas ANG and his Republican sycophants cut benefits for veterans in 2003 to pass their $700 million plus tax cuts.
Actually if I remember correctly it was actually a 1% raise, which wasn’t even enough to cover inflation.
One percent.
And again in 2006: the administration’s budget proposal would require about two million higher-income veterans without service-related conditions to pay a $250 annual fee, as well as an $8 increase in copayments for prescription drugs, for FY 2006. Under the proposal, total funds for the Department of Veterans Affairs would increase to $68.2 billion, or by 1%. The budget proposal would eliminate federal funds for a program that provides long-term care for veterans and reduce funds for VA nursing home care by $351 million, which could lead to the elimination of about 5,000 nursing home beds administered by the department.
Even the most simple minded of these servile frauds could find story after story after story of returning vets who are getting shafted by these never served, never will Republican shills.
ANYBODY who thinks these service-avoiding neo-cons are concerned about fully funding the VA is living in a Republican alternate-reality.
Patton would have lined every one of them and their sick advocates up and had them shot.

If there was political will, Bush could be tried and almost certainly found guilty on the article of impeachment pertaining to, for instance, lying to the country about the danger Iraq posed and getting us involved in this war.
