“If I Were An Idiot” by O.J. Simpson with Preface by George W. Bush, Senator Larry Craig and the Republicons. Here’s a small excerpt from O.J. Simpson: So I thought why not murder because no one would ever suspect me, Oranthal James “The Juice” Simpson, a notorious wife beater with an angry temper, of murdering my ex-wife and her boyfriend. Then, if need be, I’ll make my escape in an inconspicuous white Ford Bronco on a crowded LA freeway in the middle of the day during rush hour so as not to draw too much attention from onlookers and TV news cameras in traffic helicopters. Man I am just too damn smart, I should try this murder thing more often because this will like takin’ worthless football cards from my pathetic excuse of a career at gunpoint, or even better takin’ candy from a baby…and stabbin’ an ex-wife and her boyfriend with it”

Hey, look, the glove fits.

~~~~~~
So when a group thugs burst into your hotel room, kicking down the door and screaming obscenities, the apologists in the Atlanta Urinal Constitution call it a “standoff?”
{{{{Apparent tape yields details- Simpson heard yelling at standoff-Urinal}}}}
There is no amount of slant that the AJC will forego in pursuit of their agenda, if they make this kind of attempt to diminish the commission of 3 felonies, what kind of spin do they put on their Iraq coverage?
~~~~~~

The Atlanta Urinal Constitution, in cooperation with Al Qaeda, is pleased to bring you the following blessed news:

{{{{The Iraqi government announced Monday it was ordering Blackwater USA, the security firm that protects U.S. diplomats…..The order by the Interior Ministry, if carried out, would deal a severe blow to U.S. government operations in Iraq by stripping diplomats, engineers, reconstruction officials and others of their security protection. Yea!}}}}

~~~~~~
{{{{Enjoying nature —- before we destroy it- Washington has categorically failed to face this threat —- one so great that it makes al-Qaida look like a bunch of jaywalkers.- Urinal}}}}
I could type in a thousand words and it won’t come close to revealing what moonbats you libs are, that this column does.
~~~~~~~

{{{{Confirmation may face fight over documents-Urinal}}}}

Well, if we are going to have a “fight” no matter what, let’s bring Olsen back.

And make notice, the AG is part of the executive branch same as the presidency, how can Bush responsible for all of the world’s problems when he can’t even hire his own people without lib interference?

~~~~~~
{{{{Stop junk lawsuits. I’ve heard sad stories from doctors and patients. The doctor who had to close her clinic in her hometown and move across the state to work at a hospital that would pay her rising liability insurance premiums. The head trauma specialist afraid that when he retired, his community in one of the poorest regions in the country couldn’t attract a replacement. The pregnant woman who drove 80 miles from home in Las Vegas to get prenatal care.}}}}
Isn’t it sweet that the libs support trial lawyers and their junk lawsuits, and then turn around and blame the health care system for rising costs?
Talk about having you
Cohen takes it to the nutroots and Clintoon:
{{{{It may seem unfair to single out Clinton in this matter when the bunker in which she took shelter was crowded with her fellow quivering candidates. But Clinton is the front-runner, quite possibly the next president of the United States, and so it is reasonable to focus on her and wonder if, as some allege, she indeed does have a spine. In this instance, it was nowhere to be found.}}}}
~~~~~~

Seeing as Electrolux makes vacuum cleaners and washing machines, I’m not sure Al Qaeda could boycott them and have anyone notice. So perhaps they could drive a Volvo bomb into an Ikea and set it off with an Ericsson phone. After all, it’s not as though Al Qaeda could bomb anyone using their own culture’s technological prowess. Suppose a Swedish extremist wanted to threaten the most successful giant companies of the Arab world. What would that list be again? “Submit, or else The Swedish Defense Brigade will strike ‘The Tribe of the Two Sheiks’ brand hummus display down at Kroger!”

Videos of the incident posted on several Web sites show officers pulling Andrew Meyer, 21, away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President George W. Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.

Security Took ‘Turn for Worse’ In Southern Iraq, Report Says

By Paul

Hello Bosch

Sooner or later, such attitudes and actions catch up. Plus, I imagine the DA’s looking forward to the reputation of “he’s the guy who put OJ away.”

Can’t resist - but as we all know from the Fitzgerald episode, it’s all about justice, right? :)

Thought about you Sunday - we had a visiting priest this Sunday. He’d been out of seminary just over a year and is assigned to a nearby church. He’d entered seminary fresh off a stint as an Army Ranger. Was in Afghanistan with Tillman. Briefly mentioned the Ranger credo - never leave anyone behind - then segued into a very practical sermon - parable of the lost sheep and risking for the one who’s lost or on hard times.

BTW - saw a news piece - Barry Manilow wouldn’t appear on the View as one of the “conservative hosts is too dangerous.” It was followed by a story of a Colorado judge who punishes those who violate the community’s noise ordinance (primarily for playing rap loud in their cars) to listening to… an hour of loud Barry Manilow music! He says he sees few repeat offenders.

Hmmm. I wonder if he’s qualified to be our next Attorney General? :)

Excellent point. As I watched Sally Field’s assertion that if women ruled the world there’d be fewer wars (I’m still waiting for the condemnation - similar to the outcry to the one that followed Harvard President Summer’s thought that maybe the researchers wanted to research to see if there are innate differences between men and women? - from the Left over that one.

Oddly enough Barry Manilow was on The View with Elizabeth Hassleback twice in the past and found no problem with her. Could it be because a song for his new CD, that didn’t make onto the CD, was a duet with Rosie O’Doughnut?

Bosch,

You’re welcome, it’s easy to freeze one’s memory on things like that. I doubt they had much of an upbringing from OJ anyway other than him instilling in them a sense that their poor daddy is always being picked on. I hope they’re ok when they realize that pig really did murder their mother.

Actually, I think it’s a pretty great thing that there are people of that caliber serving. People with a strong moral sense in the midst of all that evil. More the reason I’m pretty disgusted with that latest movie depicting the rape and murder of that Iraqi child (and murder of her family). The director’s assertion that exposing such things will lead to an end of war is ludicrous. The criminals are serving life sentences - and when one considers the tens of thousands of soldiers and Marines who have served there - under horrid conditions - well, that case is an aberration.

But in the interest of telling stories of both points of view, I understand there’s a movie being planned about atrocities committed by Islamic militants so the Mideast Muslim community will rise in outrage to halt such activities. It’s been delayed, though, as they’re having such a difficult time finding any verifiable examples.

Not necessarily a question of whether you’re homo or hetero, but more of a question of whether you’re getting laid. Your profile and MO leads me to infer that you have a sex life as deprived as a Catholic priest in an all-girls school.

More importantly, your political commentary is lacking any sense of logic or clarity and views are rather obtuse.

I haven’t had time to study it yet, but I’m sure she learned from her prior attempt and the intervening years (as an aside, with all the hoopla over the VP’s office not releasing energy task force records, I heard the other day Hillary’s done the same thing with the records from her first health care study group?).

I would hope the debate doesn’t split into a “single payer only (Michael Moore’s mistake)” vs “the less we do, the better” battle. I think something between the two could have chance of passage. Of course, the Congress’s latest proposals on the insurance for poor kids (laudable goal) expanding to families earning - $80k a year? - gets me just a tad nervous - if they take the same tack with health care reform.

So studying options, rating the advantages and disadvantages of each, is my hope. And I would like to see a candidate - any of them - in a few months say “we’ve heard the criticisms and comments and we now want to modify our plan…”

I see how Luckovich came up with today’s cartoon. “If I did it” is a variation of “If I were an idiot”, at least in terms of parallel onomatopoeia, that is “sounds like”.

I guess calling OJ an idiot is funny. IDIOT! The word idiot is funny. We are all idiots at some things. I just blew out my entire fuse box connecting a + to a - terminal on my car battery. That makes me a total idiot. Now the car starts, and the front headlights work, but the rear brake lights dont work and you cant press the brakes and get the transmission out of park. (no radio or air conditioning fan, or tachometer either). Dome light works. What have I done? I cant even have the car towed, I have to figure out which fuse or relay was blown. But I’m an idiot, and that’s more than I can handle. I’ve never been this f’d with a car before.

Any suggestions besides stick my head in the toilet?

Paul, Motown is good choice.

Doom always argues that the best music came in the 80s, however. If you listen to some of today’s so called hits, they are just recycled music from that era. That and the fact that MJ still holds the world record is tantamount to the greatness of the 80s.

Let me rephrase, again:

Bad behavior is bad, regardless of which side, group, party, website, does it. One doing so does not justify the other.

I pointed out the Hillary/Cheney bit, not to justify one by the actions of another, but to show that in politics, “right” is often measured by “what party.” Candidates will do that which they condemn in others if it will advance their cause.

Haven’t I said before, that Kerry’s commander put him in for the awards, the Navy approved and hasn’t taken action to rescind them, so case is closed? Just because some condemned Sen Kerry doesn’t justify MoveOn condemning Gen Petraeus.

I do not accept the “we invaded Iraq for oil” argument. We had adequate, reliable supplies. We weren’t anywhere near where the Japanese were prior to our involvement in WWII. If we wanted to invade, Venezuela was a much better target. Just because a businessman who is associated with the Pres makes a business decision doesn’t mean that decision was the driving force for US action six years earlier.

Is this the same Hunt who tried to corner the silver market in 1974? Who got shut down by a Republican administration?

Of course you like “September”, because you really don’t know Earth, Wind, & Fire. That’s the safe answer because it’s the most known song.

Also, the 80’s were lousy for music, other than hip hop when groups like Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, and Public Enemy emerged.

In regards to soul/R & B, the 70s were unbelievable when songs had live instrumentation and were sung with true feeling. That 80’s R & B garbage was nothing but syntesizers, fake drums, and jheri curls.

Paul and Doom, U2 - the Joshua Tree - rules the world - end of story. Hell, I even liked that goofy album they put out after Auchtung Baby - another true classic.

Prince, yes, I like him, I remember my girlfriend and I went to see Purple Rain in the theater - packed out, people danced in the aisle - fun show. Bad movie, one of the worst, but still one of my favorite all time albums.

Earth Wind and Fire? Little before my time - I like the flash though.

Michael Jackson - vomit. I liked him when he was black - Off the Wall.

Yes, I’m more of a rocker kind of person - jazz, absolutely no country music of any kind.

Not too much on hip hop, I borrowed my son’s car the other day and heard one of the absolutely crudest songs I have ever heard! Apprently the singer had met a lot of women in his life, did lots of “things” to them, and they to him, and during the chorus liked to talk about reefer. It made me feel old.

Paul,

You would have to be in cheney’s top secret meeting with big oil to prove this occupation is for oil but I am seeing a consensus on this fact. What are the oil prices today and Hunt signed an illegal deal with the Kurds without Iraq government approval.

Kerry did bash moveon because it is wrong to attack vets but is fair game thanks to the gop.

I think they want the same agenda in Iran. Lets face it, Iran is not aggressively occupying countries like us and Israel which have nukes.

It is argument to protect themselves from the aggressive occupiers. Then you have to prove they are building weapons instead of an energy source. See General Abazaid’s position.

In the end, they will have nukes and the world will accept it to protect themselves from the ones that do have nukes and are aggressive.

This occupation for oil has many consequences forcing a new arms race, conflicts with Russia and China, and a nuclear middle East.

Well, one can make a case that the continuing presence in Iraq is in part to stabilize the region in order to ensure a reliable supply of oil.

But that’s a lot different than to say the original motive for the Iraq war was over oil.

Oil prices today; some would say the Iraq war is irrelevant - demand from China, others, drives prices.

I applaud Kerry for his action with MoveOn’s ad. Mrs. Edwards, too. Not her husband. Hillary was just on CNN - when asked to condemn MoveOn she just says she admires Gen Petraeus’s record of service. Weak, very weak.

Regarding Iran and nukes - Gen Abizaid, I believe, talked about how Iran wasn’t a “suicide nation.” Maybe. But they have some religious nuts in charge. It’s not like deterrence with the Russians - ANY attack - chem, bio, nukes - meant a massive nuke retaliation.

Let’s suppose it were to happen - directly or indirectly. I’d wager there’d be lots of Americans who would say “retaliate? Where’s the proof? But they hit only one city - it would be morally wrong to destroy their country.” Point is - fear of annihilation is what worked for Russians and American - Chinese, too. I’m just not too sure about this current Iranian leadership - all the more reason to try to isolate them and appeal to the moderates.

I’m about to sign off - done with some archiving and need to focus on other work. See you late this afternoon.

Yes, Bosch, I do. In fact, I work in an industry that does just that, cleans the environment.

What we are talking about with this man made global warming agenda is something entirely different than “cleaning the environment.”

What the libs have planned for us is the total destruction of capitalism (sound familiar?) in pursuit of a “solution” that will have absolutely no affect on the environment.

Did you read my post at 2:06 or did you just assume what it meant based on your beliefs, beliefs that you have derived from what dedicated socialists and left wingers have told you?

Think about it for a second, in 1300 there was no ice in Greenland, none, zero, but there were humans there and all over the whole planet. Imagine for a second how warm it must have been in 1300 for there to be NO ice, after all, today it is just now melting. And now imagine this, we survived it.

Until it got cold, then it destroyed whole human civilizations.

Comprende?

And what were we doing in 1300 to cause the warm climate?

There is nothing you can do about the rays of the Sun, trust me on this one.

And the biggest question of all, cold kills more than heat does, warmer climates provide more food, people are healthier, so why are you libs so against it?

Do you WANT us all to die?

Do you even acknowledge the fact that banning DDT, based on junk science that it harmed bird egg shells, and that banning wound up killing 50,000,000 African children who contracted malaria from mosquito bites? And that we are now reversing that by unbanning DDT?

Do you realize DDT used to be sprayed on whole towns during summer and no one died?

Think man, think.

State Dept. Watchdog: My ‘Foremost Mission Is To Support Bush Administration’

Among the allegations:

– Refused to send “any investigators” into Iraq and Afghanistan to “pursue investigations into wasteful spending or procurement fraud.”

– Stalled investigators from cooperating with a “Justice Department investigation into waste, fraud, and abuse relating to the new U.S. Embassy in Iraq.”

– Used “irregular” and incomplete investigative procedures to help exonerate a prime contractor of the U.S. embassy in Iraq of charges of labor trafficking.

– Impeded investigators’ efforts to cooperate with a Justice probe into allegations that a “large private security contractor was smuggling weapons into Iraq.”

– Interfered with an on-going investigation “into the conduct of Kenneth Tomlinson, the head of Voice of America and a close associate of Karl Rove.”

– Censored portions of inspection reports on embassies so that information on security vulnerabilities was “not disclosed to Congress.”

The report adds that under Krongard, the IG office has seen an “exodus of trained staff” as “people come to work every day fearful” of his “daily antagonism.”

I was, however, very alarmed at the song my son was playing in his car the other day! Damn!

What was REALLY funny, is that I asked him his opinion of the song, and he took this “Uh, it’s just a song attitude.” Then I started reciting some of the lyrics, word for word. I think because me, hearing one of his parents, saying those words, and talking about oral sex, anal sex, in all it’s glorious details - and I asked him, “So you think that’s okay?” Well, after that, he almost fainted.

I was highly amused.

I told him that I couldn’t stop him from listening to that kind of music, but when he has a girl in the car with him to show some respect and not play it.

Silly silly GOP

You know, if GWB lost back in 04, he would be a much happier person.

Think about it, in 04, the housing market had not burst yet still spurred on by the fed rate cut after 9-11, Iraq was not a complete loss yet, and the economy and dollar were still fairly strong.

And now, gwb has 16 months left, the plan for iraq is to let the next president figure it out, housing burst taking along with it construction jobs, finance jobs and about 150 banks and counting, the dollar is falling fast as the national debt is balloning.

Welcome to stagflation 2008 style.

Take the incompetence in foriegn policy and economics of Jimmy Carter, mix in some Nixon style secrecy and dishonesty, along with the charm and charisma of jerry ford, and you get George W Bush.

RE- the only thing that you got right was the thing about ole Dummy Carter, the second stupidest man in America - after Al Gore! The economy is in fantastic shape. More people own their own homes than ever. Therefore, you will have some people who have taken advantage of the situation and we will have more foreclosures. Good for you! As I read that, thinking about openly confronting such language, I was reminded of Charlton Heston’s doing essentially the same thing, reading Ice-T’s lyrics at a Time Warner stockholder’s meeting. He was asked to refrain from such vulgarity and was told the press couldn’t print what he said - even though kids were buying the lyrics.

When I looked for what he said I came across his speech to the Harvard Law School Forum. I thought you and others might find it thought-provoking. It seems as timely now as it did in 1999.

I was struck by the irony - a person derided as an arch-conservative, giving examples of his life, fighting for causes, of themes many here identify as… liberal! So much for labels.

A not-yet def Beethoven knew both Mozart and Haydn. Beethoven met Mozart when Mozart’s mother had just died, so their meeting was cut short by grief. But they were locked away in a room with a keyboard for nearly a half hour, long enough for the two to know they were alone in the world. Imagine being Mozart in a world of musical idiots and witnessing Beethoven do riffs on your own original material. Riffs you never thought of, or could imagine. Mozart was so impressed he predicted the entire world would listen to Beethoven.

Beethoven and Haydn ended badly when Haydn criticized the very riffs Beethoven had invented for Mozart, years later after Mozarts untimely death. Beethoven suddenly realized that Haydn wasn’t Mozart. They never spoke again.

Mozart ranks as the greatest genius that ever lived. Whoever is second, is a far, far distant second and the rest are bunched up as nearly second. All lesser composers. All composers who worked hard and did as good as any man can do working hard.

You could not fall asleep listening to Mozart’s “Abduction” overture.

RW, Well, maybe I’m being a little hypocritical here, I think alot of blame for the sucky economy is a direct result of the war, which, yes, I can definitely blame Bush for. And, while I’ve always been opposed to the war, in 2004, I thought, well, maybe this will get wrapped up - we started it, we should finish it, and hopefully things will work out and quickly. Boy, was I wrong! Now, I say, get the hell out and rework the plan - we need a new strategy - this one just isn’t working and our country, like many of it’s citizens are going bankrupt - but as I’ve said, I don’t blame just the war for the housing market debacle - I think that has more to do with greedy businesses and people who think they need pretty houses and lots of stuff to have a normal, happy life (among a couple other things I don’t want to go into right now).

That video was hilarious. Thanks. It made me chuckle. I’m going to show it to my daughter tonight - after I let her out of the closet, of course.

Some take issue with [[At least the Dems find a way to pay for their expenditures. Yes, with taxes]] as other alternative exist - such as reducing, modifying or eliminating current programs. But when the default position is new taxes, many get alienated.

Rep Rangel sees the difficulty with the pay as you go rules - Dems seem to want to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax, which is snaring more and more middle class families, but paying for it will mean forgoing billions and billions and billions (the “take” is rising steeply each year).

I wish them well, before more families get ‘screwed.”

RW, Yeah, I guess we just see the war, or THE war a little different. Yes, Petraeus did just give his report, and from what I’ve heard as far as a response from the general populace, they heard it and thought, “whatever.” The American population want out of Iraq, or at least to regroup the effort (which is more towards how I lean). They want OBL, they don’t care about the Iraqi people shooting themselves and certainly do not like our soldiers in the middle of their choice for a civil war.

The housing market will be okay, it’s just going to be interesting who profits from it. I see this as another S&L thing. It will be alright on the other end, but in the meantime I have a feeling it’s not going to be the poor or middle class who will benefit much.

AmVet - What do you know old man? :-)

Duh, My intention wasn’t to debate you on global warming, I was simply trying to make a point about misconceptions people have. And believe it or not, I don’t base my opinions on rhetoric, I’m willing to listen differing opinions.

For you to say that your opinion and data is absolute and irrefutable is simply a lie - you’re being hypocritical - you can claim absolute truth, but I can’t? It just doesn’t work that way. Nothing is absolute, except that one day you and I and everyone else are going to die, and those who know anything about research and how it’s conducted knows that.

Data is data - I don’t dismissively repute it. I know how data is collected and how it is analyzed, and it is always analyzed and interpreted by those who pay for it to be collected. There are ways to detect if the data collected is valid and reliable - those two factors are the two biggies to look at.

RE — I think NATO is like flood insurance: you pay money for it, hope to god you don’t ever need it, but when you do need it, you REALLY need it. I think a more legit question is whether the future threats to the securities of nations like the U.S. would come from entities which we would have a hard time handling on our own (like China, resurgent Russia or something) or from small non-governmental agents (like al Quaeda). But even in the case of latter, I’m sure NATO enables easier cooperation between intelligence agencies of various nations, and leads to arrests like we saw in Germany and Great Britain over the past few months.

Well, RE, this is a question of how to fairly handle the burdens. This is not an argument against having common burdens. What we get from Europe is their willingness to commit troops and resources in defense of our national interests. Now, are we carrying the heavier load? Sure. Why? Because we can. Of course we can leave all the other countries to fend for themselves… but do you think America would be in very good shape if England or France were destroyed? Even disregarding common roots, interests and values, America’s greatest strength is business. Losing one of our great economic partners would hurt our own economy tremendously. Hell, American markets take a hit when the Japanese stock exchange dips. Now imagine London stock exchange disappearing altogether…

In deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that “you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents.” The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, ” I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice.” The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, “Just gotta go slow and very easy. I’ve done it plenty,” according to detectives. So why can’t you tell me what your evidence is, it seemed like a pretty simple request?

As far as Doom being your friend, I am not a vain person like most libs are, I could care less whether you two love each other or not.

I was just wondering what he saw in you.

~~~~~~
RE: I’ve been quite rude, let me try to make it up and share some money making secrets with you.
Remember the 90’s when Klintoon was prez, all the rage was the “internet start ups” and “cash burn” with investors speculating on a firm’s viability.
When investors ran out of money to burn and since 95% of these abberitions couldn’t turn a profit, every thing came crashing back to Earth and the economy fell into a recession in 2001, which of course, you toadies blamed on Bush.
But the real point of the story is, do you think investors will ever again put capital into companies for them to burn on start up? Very unlkely.
Now translate that into today’s real estate market. When I was making money hand over fist, people were doing some pretty silly things, like buying huge houses on adjustable rate mortgages, and others who bought flipped houses at greatly exagerrated values.
So the Fed, and by the way I like this Berneke, raised interest rates and put the brakes on this foolish activity, which weeded out those in way over their heads and has made a nice inventory of unsold homes, a somewhat buyer’s market.
This next round of buying is going to be less frenetic, without the “at whatever cost” motivations and will produce a more stable market.
People know about ARMs now, they are not going to sell their houses for half price, values will level out or may even rise based on increased demand.
These factors I will watch, carefully, and make day to day, well thought out decisions based on knowledge and information from those that I trust.
I will not, under any circumstances, especially concerning my money, run around shrieking like a chicken with it’s head cut off, like you are.
Know what I mean?
There’s a pretty big difference between polling a cross section of people and extrapolating the results to mean that is majority opinion, which it likely is if the poll was conducted fairly, and taking election results of people that got off their butts and voted and saying the result was wrong because it didn’t match “majority opinion.”
Feel free to re-ask that idiotic question from 5:36 if that wasn’t what you were getting at.
If you had honed your stalking techniques, you’d know that I don’t give a rat’s behind what the majority of people think, in so far as it affecting my perception or right and wrong. Public opinion only matters to me as a harbinger of what’s to come. For instance: Bush being elected by public opinion (in 2004) portends the $hithole we find ourselves in, so I was very unhappy on the 3rd of November in 2004. People wanting nothing more to do with Shrub portends an end to neocon cabal’s 8 years of $hitting on this country (and others along with it), so I’m happy about it.
Well, it could cost us. Precipitous withdrawals lead to vacuums - and someone else will step in. Witness Ahmadinejad’s latest statements regarding Iraq. You go, we’re in.
US forces in the Pacific have been a brake on N Korea, China for years. (US dramatically cut Korean troop levels during the last election, Kerry and the Dems opposed the reductions. Go figure). Europe? We still want to be part of the alliance - and not have a separate alliance, without us, acting not in concert with our interests. So it’s the price of admission.
An alternate train of thought would be, what would the reductions be if we trained and equipped our forces to deal with the jihadist reality (I know, many Dem candidates dispute that statement) rather than the largely Cold War model we still have? My gosh, why do people think we had no urban warfare vehicles, low stocks of mundane items like body armor? Yet we had plenty for next generation weapons systems. It’s really, really tough to break the old models.
Years ago an author, Drury, I believe, wrote a novel “Pentagon.” In the opening pages he described the Pentagon as a sentient entity, morosely moving on, oblivious to the inhabitants, impervious to any attempt to obstruct its remorseless path. I always liked that description.
(grin). So what I’ve described is the current reality? I’ve never said it’s wise, or sustainable - it’s just what is. In fact, I’ve regularly criticized our force structure and some of our obligations.
Describing or commenting is not advocating.
We need to take a real hard look at the current crop of candidates,if that is a criteria. Obama said “so what” regarding genocide in Iraq - then listed numerous areas where that’s the case and we aren’t involved. But many candidates advocate a kind of “stop the suffering if the casualties are acceptable” view of foreign policy.
Get ready for the “don’t you care?” questions - like SecState Albright’s question (which I regularly quote) of “what’s the good of having this military if you never use it?”
RW, I agreed with you about Las Vegas and that the majority of Americans are typically not willing or able to form their opinions based on actual data. Most Americans, in my opinion, WANT people to tell them what to think, even when they claim the contrary. I also agree that public opinion is not very reliable, because public opinion can change on a whim, Americans are really ADD, and they care more about the next American Idol than who runs the country.
Duh, Where’s your proof that global warming isn’t created by man? Just like any “proof” I could find, you could find “proof” to the contrary. It’s a silly game.
I’m not a climatologist - my opinion doesn’t matter in this topic. I believe what I believe and you do to. I base my beliefs on what I feel is credible evidence, and so do you. So who is right? Who is wrong? Neither one of us can say for sure, now can we?
It has always been my practice to never trust anyone who speaks in absolutes - that their opinions and beliefs are irrefutable and always right. That’s why I don’t trust fundamentalist preachers.
RE,
If another Hitler arose and started picking off other countries amassing and strengthening themselves with us just sitting back doing nothing because we hadn’t been attacked it’s pretty hard to believe they would attack us before they had basically accomplished world dominance first. They learned that after Pearl Harbor with it’s premature attackulation.
It simply naive to think we don’t need to be players on a world stage and our survival truly depends on it.
I’ve never seen Red Dawn, is it any good?
Bosch,
That’s the truth about so many wanting to be told what to think. That’s another reason I think most news organizations doing polls is such BS. First they run a month of stories telling their readers what to think and then they poll them about what they think and report it as news. It’s pretty bizarre when a news source creates it’s own content.
