Gosh, I wonder if this cartoon is “disrespectful of elves” for portraying them… or if Luckovich is “living out a liberal fantasy” by killing Santa.
It’s always fun to predict the same tiresome screeching from the far-right nuts that infests this blog every day. Stand by for the irrelevance!

If this isn’t proof positive of how petty, vindictive and nasty liberals are, nothing is:
{{{{Workers operating on CIA computers have been spotted editing Wikipedia entries including the biography of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon. And somebody from a computer traced to Democrat HQ edited a page on conservative American radio host Rush Limbaugh, calling him “idiotic”, “ridiculous” and labelling his 20 million listeners as “legally retarded”.}}}}
liberals are just ate up with hate.
~~~~~~
Winning hearts and minds and recruiting some more fighters…for our side:
{{{{BAGHDAD (AP) - Four suicide bombers hit Kurdish Yazidi communities with nearly simultaneous attacks on Tuesday, killing at least 175 people and wounding 200 others, said Iraqi military and local officials in northwest Iraq. “This is a terrorist act and the people targeted are poor Yazidis who have nothing to do with the armed conflict,” Qassim said. “Al-Qaida fighters are very active in this area near the Syrian border.”}}}}
These things make you libs happy and they make Iraqis mad.
~~~~~~
{{{{King Karl is the man that liberals love to hate; a lot. Just last week, an inane video featuring yet another failed Seinfelder, Jason Alexander, was released. This dreary effort—featuring Alexander as “Rovemort” and spoofing, among other things, Rush Limbaugh’s hearing loss—epitomizes the reason why liberals, in addition to their depressing and soul-stealing agenda, are just not funny.}}}}
~~~~~
{{{{Hispanics commend Cobb’s ‘courage’ Hispanic leaders praised the Cobb County Commission on Tuesday for quashing a proposal that would have restricted the hiring of day laborers, but they said there’s still work to be done to prevent discrimination against Spanish-speaking immigrants.}}}}
“Courage” for breaking the law? “Discrimination” for enforcing the law?
Check this out, liberals in the CIA goofing off on their computers, neglecting America’s national security so that they can act out on their mindless stupid hate rage of America and Republicans.
Gosh, I wonder if they’d ever accuse a Republican of “outing” one of them or maybe falsify evidence of Iraq shopping for uranium to make a Conservative President look bad?
Good morning all! I’m with you, Mrs. G. If you are good at your craft, home made presents can be so much better and as you said a lot safer than the Made in China variety. Many of the gifts I give are home made :-)
B.P.O.E. - LOL, so much humor at such an early hour.
The China Syndrome we have going on is very disturbing. I think it is about time that we wake up to the cheap crap that has been coming into our country for years. Just think a minute about Happy Meal (or the equivalent) toys. Those are a very good example of the multi-layered problem this represents. First you have a cheap pos toy that your kids can choke on or you wind up stepping on in the middle of the night. Second, our kids think that eating should be accompanied by a present, and third, our children are morbidly obese because they’ve been turned into Pavlov’s dog and cry for more fast food (and toys). I think the whole Happy Meal phenomenon has been quite devastating to the health of our children.
The food we eat is disgusting. If you wonder out of the produce section of the supermarket (and sometimes that can be just as bad), you are surrounded by a chemistry lab. And we are surprised at the health problems we have in this country?
But isn’t the China Syndrome also a symptom of how our economy is on borrowed time? Another example would be the housing market. It just seems to me, in my opinion, that people who say our economy is good are like those who think they have a lot of money because they have 15 credit cards.
ITN, Well, they have the right to do that just like anyone else. That’s why Wikipedia isn’t reliable, not because Fox News is editing it, but it could be edited by the Neo-Nazis, KKK members, MoveOn, Code Pink, some serial killer whose in prison in Vermont, anybody, environmental terrorists, get my point? Far left, far right, insane, mentally disturbed, whoever.
I like Wikipedia for looking up really simple things, notice I said, really simple things, like dates, and names, but I never use it for a basis for theory. Websites, in general, are very dangerous to use for that purpose.
I had a doctor (my son’s pediatrician) tell me once a long time ago that anything you read in popular media is not reliable information. The further the information is from the original or primary source, the less valid or reliable the information.
GoldieDenier,
To give you an idea of how YOUR side operates, Kirsten Power’s Wiki entries are a perfect example of how you eat your own.
Kirsten is a fellow Democrat, but she is not a vitriolic, deranged, Left wing, Stalinist, fanatic like ML’s Moonbats, and for that she deserves retribution!
Here is the present entry which has been scrubbed of “offensive” comments like these that I captured from screen shots. Some excerpts:
On 1/29/07 it said this -
“Kirsten A. Powers is a lapdog…Powers is a joke of a political analyst on Fox News…They must be paying her oodles for her to agree so obsequiously with BillO and his minions.”
Also on 1/29 at a different hour of the day it said this -
“Since 2004 Powers has been a commentator on political issues from a fake Democratic perspective for Fox News…If Powers is a Democrat, then the party has certainly lost its soul”
On 1/30 it said this -
“Kirsten A. Powers is a prominent American columnist…A prominent columnist? Who wrote this stuff? Kirsten? Her mother? Her boyfriend? She’s prominent only in the figment of Fox News’imagination. Let’s face it. She was hired for looks and for providing the kid of balance Fox likes: Far right balanced by less right. For example it was a shameful display on BOR’s show, Jan 29, 2007, when she agreed that the tens of thousands of ordinary Americans who demonstrated in DC against the war were “far-left loons”…
‘Ya could have done better ml. Rather ho hum today.
A child’s first line of defense is their parents, and parents are failing their children in so many ways.
Recently I was at my neighbors. Her grandchildren were visiting with their Mom, the daughter-in-law. The girls were making an imaginary meal. They served me a salad of yard debris. I put a spoonful in my mouth, made a yucky face and told them they needed some cooking lessons.
They giggled and laughed hysterically, then told me I wasn’t supposed to eat it. Their Mom had a fit telling me that now they would be putting stuff in their mouth that they shouldn’t.
I guess she missed the part where her girls were smart enough to know better.
A child’s curiosity allows them to learn. Know the dangers, but encourage their curiosity.
Here’s some dangerous “toys” that kill adults and children, but the liberals never question them.
(((In the wake of Hurricane Betsy, which struck New Orleans in 1965, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed building flood gates on Lake Pontchartrain, like those in the Netherlands that protect cities from North Sea storms. In 1977, the gates were about to be built, but the Environmental Defense Fund and Save Our Wetlands sought a court injunction to block the project.)))
According to John Berlau’s recent book, “Eco-Freaks: Environmentalism is Hazardous to Your Health,” U.S. Attorney Gerald Gallinghouse told the court that not building the gates could kill thousands of New Orleanians. Judge Charles Schwartz issued the injunction despite the evidence refuting claims of environmental damage.
Oh no, the Twin Towers and our naval vessels too?
(((In 2001, thousands of Americans perished in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. In the early 1970s, when the World Trade Center complex was built, the asbestos scare had just begun. The builders planned to use AsbestoSpray, a flame retardant that adhered to steel. The New York Port of Authority caved in to the environmentalists’ asbestos scare and denied its use. An inferior substitute was used as fireproofing.)))
(((After the attack, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) confirmed other experts’ concerns about asbestos substitutes, concluding, “Even with the airplane impact and jet-fuel-ignited multi-floor fires, which were not normal building fires, the building would likely not have collapsed had it not been for the fireproofing.”)))
IN THE NEWS,
Thanks for that link to practical joker, err, joke, err, Dem Senatorial Candidate, Al Franken. You learn something new every day, like this:
Apology to Attorney General and conservative leaders
{{{In June of 2003, Franken wrote a letter to then Attorney General John Ashcroft asking for a contribution to a serious book Franken was supposedly writing on abstinence programs in the public school system. In the letter, Franken asked the Attorney General to “share a moment when you were tempted to have sex, but were able to overcome your urges through willpower and strength of character…” and stated that other conservative leaders (HHS secretary Tommy Thompson, William J. Bennett, White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, Senator Rick Santorum and then National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice) had already submitted their testimonies.
The letter was written on letterhead from the Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government where Franken was a Fellow at the time.
In truth, Franken was not working on a serious book about abstinence nor had he received testimony from any of the people he mentioned.
The following month Franken wrote a letter of apology to Ashcroft in which he told the truth about the subject matter of his book, the purpose of his orignal letter to the Attorney General, and apologized to the conservative leaders he lied about in his original letter.}}}
Yet, the report accomplished its primary objective of producing media reports which suggested that the overall picture in Iraq was “mixed.” The White House has repeatedly employed Petraeus as a PR flack, using him to promote failing Iraq policies and the war czar nomination. President Bush had previously said he would “respect the command structure” and not intercede in the Petraeus report: I will repeat, as the Commander-in-Chief of a great military who has supported this military and will continue to support this military, not only with my — with insisting that we get resources to them, but with — by respecting the command structure, I’m going to wait for David to come back — David Petraeus to come back and give us the report on what he sees.
I won’t be in much today, but if you’d like to take the food/McDonald’s idea on a different tack - Google ‘crop price supports encourage obesity’ - it had a bit of discussion before our Democratic Congress followed the same path as the Republican Congress.
They continued to subsidize less than half a dozen crops, for agribusiness, for wealthier than the average US household farmers - with the unintended consequence it keeps prices for the primary ingredients for “junk food” (1/3 of avg American’s caloric intake) artificially low.
Result: calorie for calorie, junk food is much cheaper than say, fresh fruits, veges, nonprocessed (to that extent) foods. Guess which people with lower than average incomes buy? Then along comes the weight gain, the associated health problems,
and when the single-payer countrywide universal, on demand health care system kicks in…
guess who’s gonna pay for it? All of us. Thousands of dollars. Except probably the half of the population who won’t have to contribute.
Gotta run -
Bosch: When I graduated from College I had a bright shiny deegree in social work, I moved to Albany, GA and started my career at DFACS. After 3 years I was worn out. I couldn’t take it anymore — the work was debilitating, sad, and never ending; I couldn’t see where I made a difference. I’d call my mother sometimes at 2 a.m. just to talk about the cases I had. Some of them were so bad, that even now, to this day I can still see some of my former clients’ faces in my dreams.
So I quit my job, moved back to Atlanta and I’m now working towards a law degree. I would like a job at the Children’s Defense Fund, (I’m currently working as a Legal Associate [read that as an over educated Paralegal], for a firm that deals with tax law — Hey, at least it’s better than working for DFACS!)
Just thought I’d give a shout out to a survivor of DFACS too.
Where do you get your impressions? Last I heard, the multilateral talks (not bilateral, as many here demanded) with N Korea have led to UN involvement and the likelihood the nuc reactors will be deactivated. And that’s why we’re going to war with N Korea?
Our armed force is about 1/3 the size of the one we used in Vietnam? Really?!!? Do you mean in-country or total force? Army/Marines or AF and Navy, too?
Vietnam: same time as Cold War. Lotsa troops in Germany. Iraq: Cold War’s over. We need as many troops, why?
We still have 3/4 million Army folks, about 2.6 million including Guard, Reserves. And with that (discounting Marines) we can’t field 160,000 in Iraq? Sounds pretty flaky to me.
Here’s a good article from a couple years’ back that addresses the issue. The numbers may have changed but the concepts haven’t: generals wedded to the status quo and politicians wedded to… being politicians and playing general.
Oh, and a “larger Army” just might encourage the adventurism you seem so concerned about -
Bill I’m going to Mercer 2 days a week; paid for by my employer who thinks I want to become a tax attorney; (shiver, shiver, feeling of dread), when I graduate and have already fast tracked me in for an upcoming position in their Denver Office upon completion (successful completion) of law school.
Although I am also taking economics classes, (online), there is NO WAY I wanna become a tax attorney — there is nothing, NOTHING on earth as boring as a tax attorney. I’m sitting in a deposition right now with the lead from my firm, our client and the Federal Government — the only reason I’m not fast asleep now is because I’m blogging on this blog.
I’m waiting for someone to start an argument with me so that I can at least stay awake until they call a break. Anyone wanna start with me? Anyone….??? Please……??!!!
Good tax attorneys make WAY more than special interest public defense types. Starry-eyed optimism and altruism will give way to burnout, cynicism and high credit card balances. Plus a return to night school to get the accreditation in the latest tax courses. Save some time, bow to the inevitable and go the tax route.
You’ll need a much, much higher income to have anything left for yourself once the Dems take Congress and the White House and increase taxes so they can give it to special interests.
ITN @ 11:18:
Interesting approach to Iran. I always keep in mind that it was the liberals here who promoted diplomacy with Ahmadenijad, globally wounded by Bush’s harsh words.
From your MotherJones link:
(((As it happens, the Post had an article yesterday about that “drumbeat of allegations.” It details how Bill Kristol, Michael Rubin, Norman Podhoretz, the Heritage Foundation, and others are making a military attack on Iran part of the Overton window — that is, part of the range of acceptable policy options.)))
From the WaPo piece:
(((Michael Rubin of the American Enterprise Institute recently wrote that assuming that Iran wants stability in Iraq is “as naive as it is dangerous… . U.S. and Iranian interests in Iraq are diametrically opposed, and will continue to be until one side wins and the other loses.” He depicted diplomacy with Iran as “a mirage, a tactical tool to divert U.S. policy attention away from the Revolutionary Guards and intelligence officials charged with implementing the Iranian leadership’s objectives.”)))
(((“For the U.S. government to succeed in Iraq,” Rubin argued, “it must engage not with the illusion of Iranian policy, but refine its strategies to neutralize and counter the Iranian strategies.”)))
(((Unlike the 2003 Iraq invasion, the next step on Iran is less clear, said Danielle Pletka of the American Enterprise Institute. “I like the idea of anything that gets rid of the nuclear weapons program and the regime, but I’m not persuaded that bombing achieves that,” she said. “It may be our last option, but I’m not sure we’re there yet.”)))
OK here goes:
[[Don’t you feel in the least bit guilty that you are intentionally scamming your employer by letting them pay for your education at Mercer under false pretenses (not to mention blogging instead of working)?]]
First I’m not scamming my employer. I signed a mutual agreement that upon successful completion of my classes, (they check my grades regularly) AND upon my graduation,I will work for them for five years, (think ROTC). After the 5 years I can go where I want. Secondly Half the people ON HERE are blogging at work! ALSO, depending on the case, I work on weekends, holidays, at airports, on the train, etc. AND sometimes into the wee hours of the night researching past precedents, tax codes and decisions. So NO I don’t even feel guilty!! They get their money outta me.
[You think the fact that fellow Dems sabotage Kirsten Power’s Wiki site is somehow comparable to the fact that not all Republicans agree with Newt?]
I was making the remark in regards to the repuglican strategy of John McCain during the presidential primaries in SC (when the repuglicans started rumors that he had a “black” child — you know how repuglicans hate that). As for the Newt comment, repuglicans, who just a few months ago, praised him for his outlook and views, have now started commenting on his lack of foresight, etc. a la Limbaugh and Hannity.
[The thought of you being a lawyer is truly frightening]
I KNOW!!! — unfortunately I’m more interested in the defense of America’s Children more so than I am in wiping the floor with the likes of you. Too bad.
[forgot to add - if you really hate being a tax lawyer, support the Fair Tax and no one will have a need for your services anymore anyway]
In all seriousness - I was pulling from personal experience. Older family member - goes back to college in her 40s - teaching - another family member said “your age, make some $$, get ready for retirement. She got the Ed degree, drives through a major city, nearly an hour commute each way, to teach at a school 95% economically disadvantaged, 95% minority. Was teacher of the year. Regularly has 100 percent pass rates on the state standardized achievement tests (including when she had 8 Katrina children added - most performed 1 to 1 1/2 years behind grade level).
But it’s burnout. Age has a way of doing that. Plus to attract new teachers pay scales adjusted - so new hires make nearly as much as she does (she was asked to go into administration “where the money is” but that’s just not her nature).
Oh, and what she and several other “teach as a second career, do something rewarding” people found out: in her state, you teach, sign up for the retirement plan, you forfeit social security. Actually it’s offset, so it’s a forfeit (I think the disclosure was on page 138, para 3, subparagraph j, note 8 footnote 16).
So follow your heart - and take care of yourself, too.
Bill seems to be having an identity crisis among other things. Sally.Com-e then Bill.Com-e.
Stratfor analysis:
(((The United States has just significantly upped the ante in negotiations with Iran over Iraq by threatening to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. The threat, leaked by anonymous U.S. officials to the Washington Post, is an intentional message to Iran.)))
(((The message is this: We are not content with your negotiating position, and if you think you are the only side that can ratchet up the level of pain in this situation, you are wrong.)))
(((Stratfor has long contended that the negotiations between Washington and Tehran are the key to any possible settlement on the Iraq issue, and that if a deal is to be reached,—-> things will look like they are descending into chaos immediately prior. This is standard bargaining.<—- Each side has to appear as though it is willing to walk away from the table, to the detriment of the other side.)))
(((Sanctions are at best an imprecise tool, but —->Washington’s heavy leaning on Europe has made them much more effective of late.<—- The thought of designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization has been floating in the U.S. Congress for some time now, but Washington has a clear purpose in sending strong hints to Iran that the decision is imminent at this stage of the Iraq negotiations.)))
(((Iran is —->genuinely suffering<—- from the financial sanctions, which are generating significant domestic pressure on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. By designating the IRGC a terrorist organization, the United States has many more tools at its disposal to cut off funding to an international network that not only fights for Iran, but finances its fighting through a number of business ventures, ranging from pipeline construction to pharmaceuticals. The current sanctions regime has been increasingly effective, and this new set of tools could put Iran’s finances in lockdown. Labeling the IRGC as a terrorist entity, rather than an official state security apparatus, could also significantly hamper Iran’s defense deals. By homing in on the wealthiest and most senior IRGC commanders, the United States is threatening the stability of the Islamic Republic and Ahmadinejad’s support network.)))
Iran has had some defense deals going on with Syria.
If al Qaeda threatened to blow up a building anywhere in the United States how long do you suppose it would take before Michael Chertoff and George Bush and Dick Cheney were screaming at the top of their lungs on TV about it? Probably less time than it takes the Pentagon to spend $1 million in Iraq. But apparently home-grown racist extremists can threaten to blow up a buildingwith nary a peep from our valiant leaders in the War on Terror.
And just this morning I was reviewing news shows I’d taped - got the end of one show a minute before another started - and there was one of the talking heads - Gibson? CNN? Fox? Gibson? saying, yeah, well, big deal, nothing much implied, so they’re bad guys, we already knew that.
I suppose it doesn’t really matter which “commentator” said that - it just serves to illustrate the kind of thinking they do compared to the professionals at Stratfor. But guess who gets considered more by many Americans?
Rather scary, given the articles opining on how “the blogs” are influencing politicians’ positions (mostly Dems) on a variety of issues.
Compare the NYT article on the Guards’ designation with Stratfor’s. According to the Times in the lead-in, if imposed it “would signal a more confrontational turn in the administration’s approach to Iran”. There are two primary reasons for the action and the first listed is “to pacify, for a while, administration hawks who are pushing for possible military action…”
Bias? Who’s cast in a bad light? America? The Administration? Let’s see, the Administration’s getting confrontational and Sec Rice is trying to pacify Administration hawks. I thought one of the reasons might have been Iran or what they’re doing?
That was sarcasm, so many state the media has no bias (most say liberal, some say conservative - take your pick).
Print media like the NYT are much different than cable commentators - most are not journalists and give their own views on news events, hence the designation “commentators.” But to your question, BOR took his undergraduate degree in History, a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and followed with a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s John F Kennedy School of Government. In his early career he worked as a reporter, print as well as ABC’s World News Tonight - so he at least has experience in the field as well as with the people.
Just so there’s no misunderstanding - you asked a question, I answered. Does not imply agreement. Rather like someone asking Hillary about Obama’s background. If she answers specifically (a first) it doesn’t mean she’s turned into an Obama supporter.
Not a bad idea, that. I may be on to something here -
To accept all such sources as credible, let alone worthy of citation, is a serious error.
Actually, “tape” is not quite correct. I use a digital video recorder. But “Tivo” is a brand name - not sure if it’s become a generic term like “Kleenex” for “tissue.” So I said “tape” so most would understand.
I tend to get up early (or to bed late if there’s a deadline) so can get through them quite quickly- a full hour show in 40 min, more like 20 as I select the segments. Comes in handy when, say, getalife says “check Olberman tonight” or someone else mentions a guy (Tucker) with whom I’m not familiar. I can also record two shows and watch another.
But I also record others - last night was a piece on Stephen Hawking preparing an address in which he made proposals regarding black holes that conflicted with his earlier proposals. Openmindedness regarding one’s positions - a good example, I think.
Plus cooking shows. Iron Chef - 3 am - 30 lb Australian lobsters. Good stuff.
When black holes were first introduced, they were thought to be rare, exotically impossible to imagine objects that we’d be lucky to find in the math (forget in our telescopes).
Now, we think there’s as common as galaxies, in fact, they are the cause of all galaxy, that is, the engine from which galaxies spring.
Paul @ 1:33:
I take what the news commentators say with a grain of salt. Some possess analytical skills and I enjoy listening. I’ll always go to Stratfor for the “best” analysis though. If they were 100% behind Bush, I’d have my doubts about them as well. The situations are analyzed at Stratfor, not individuals or parties. The NYT’s article clearly painted America as the aggressor. Why not? Iran, and now Ahmadenijad have been the aggressor for years. Takes one to make one.
According to the leftists here Condi is the administration’s housekeeper. Why would she go against Cheney? Couldn’t be the good cop, bad cop approach now could it? I have a pretty good idea that the ones working behind the scenes aren’t even being picked up on the media’s radar.
Sometimes things are slow at Stratfor. I can only assume that they’re waiting for confirmation or additional info hinging on another part of the equation that has yet to culminate.
Musharraf’s upcoming election has been interesting to watch. One day it’s the declaration of a state of emergency to insure his military rule, then within 24 hours Condi Rice has changed his mind, free elections are the best. Bhutto is in, Bhutto is out. I’m still waiting on that one. In my opinion, it appears to be an orchestrated effort to influence public opinion, when the game plan has already been set unless something leads them in another direction.
I read where in Algeria Al Qaeda extremists are now killing reformed members. Battered extremist syndrome? The bruised and battered are turning themselves in to authorities there. Disillusioned with the marriage I suppose.
Good take on Stratfor. I too have read some of the analyses and thought “I don’t think so…” - which is fine. Analysis is opinion, guess, substantiation, reaching - which some discussing prewar intel never understood. (Side comment - been meaning to ask - all the Dem candidates except Obama - who prior to the Iraq invasion just knew there were WMDs right now in Iraq, posed a threat to America. When, exactly, did they change their minds and just know what they knew before wasn’t what they know now? :) I’m sure you see the implications).
But overall they do a good job of tying various areas together.
Good accomplishment, yes. Serious questions. Several others bring up the same. Hate to single anyone out, but look past the manner of expression - as with getalife - much to learn about the outlook and passion of an influential political segment.
It’s about understanding. Not agreement. Understanding.
Midori - Bosch
The lobsters were $400 apiece. I saw one show with a special Japanese peach (they were wrapped while growing to protect them) that were - I believe they were under $50 each.
They had mushrooms that were @2,000 apiece. Swallow’s nests were $24,000 for the lot (people can die harvesting them).
There was a special type of pork - $15,000 for the show.
They spare no expense. I’d sure like to be a judge!
Oh, and this is quite revealing:
The stage production Les Miserables - Andrew Lloyd Weber’s adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel. Smash musical hit - has played worldwide for a couple of decades. There is a DVD - Les Miserables in Concert - also known as the “Dream Cast” - recorded in the Royal Albert Hall in 1996 on the 10th anniversary - at the end they had all the Jean Valjeans (“John Valjohn,” the male lead) from around the world come on stage for the finale - and the Japanese Jean Valjean was Chairman Kaga!
That seems a little unhumanitarian to me. I can just picture some rich Japanese guy, “Oh I don’t care if three people died in the swallow nest harvest — I love them — bring them to me!” Again, just a little creepy for my taste. Hell, shrimp is a delicacy at my house. Yummy!
Paul, Maybe I should clarify - I know that a swallow is a bird and that they probably make a nest like most birds, but I doubt that is what you are talking about when you said “swallow nest.”
We’re you talking about a mushroom? That’s what I’m assuming here, but you know, I’m not up on all the different kinds of $24,000 mushrooms - portabellas and oyster mushrooms are exotic enough for me.
Gotta run - it’s been fun!
Bosch - not all food network shows use expensive recipes. I’m starting a recipe book now - whenever I see a show featuring recipes I like, I go to the website, print them off and add them to a binder. The website gives you the option of printing on 3x5 cards or full page. It’s great.
I love Alton, too. But my fave is the Barefoot Contessa :)
the problem with the Iron Chef show is none of the recipes are provided, as none existed. Those guys pretty much made it up as they went along.
Paul - you need to check out Andrew Zimmern’s “Bizarre Foods”. it comes on the Travel Channel on Mondays @ 9. It airs at other times, but that is his regular time slot. During one episode, when he was in Thailand (or was it China?), he accompanied a crew that harvested swallows nests. Those ladders!!!!
Bosch
It is, literally, a bird (swallow) nest. They construct them by binding together the collected matter with a regurgitated gelatinous substance. They are harvested in many locations of the world, although some of the most prized come from cliff faces - so if not careful, the harvesters can fall. And some have died, altho I do not believe it a frequent occurrence.
The $24k was for the show. Most go for about a hundred.
Good afternoon all.
Lots of good stuff today.
Is Wiki reliable or not?
When I first began blogging, I referenced it a few times and was thoroughly flamed by some of the usual right wingers here.
How dare I use Wikipedia?!! Didn’t I know it was full of errors?
Uh, sorry, no I didn’t. But I decided to investigate.
And from what I have seen, it is extremely reliable and factually accurate. With some caveats.
For example I have looked at some of the information that I have expertise in, regarding my business, and it is spot on.
But as Buy Danish noted and INT”s link about Diebold, as well, some of the commentary, especially if it is political in nature absolutely requires corroboration from other sources before being believed.
No big deal and I will continue to use it regularly, knowing that is the case.
Speaking of ITN’s links, Paul, I just couldn’t disagree with your opinion regarding them more.
IN THE NEWS, I have found your links consistently relevant and informative. And who cares if you add commentary or not? Hell, the rest of us more than make up for it!
So, fellow bloggers, either read them or don’t. And believe the veracity of them or don’t.
To me, it’s infinitely more valuable than cutting and pasting a sometimes very out-of-context paragraph and then adding a comment or two of inane comments. Then another paragraph and another comment. Ad nauseum.
All of course, conveniently without links to the source.
Despite Bush’s repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government.
Who would ever believe that Gen. Petreaus’ report would be written by the White House — that is, before the Bush mafia moved in? And what has happened to America for the past 6 years?
RW lying again. In other news, Sun is still shining. There were not 60% liberals in the poll Goldie linked to. So sadly the carnage in Iraq continues, seemingly unabated.
I know its a rhetorical question, but are the long suffering people there, ever going to get their collective act together and end the violence and bloodshed?
How is it possible that so many human beings are essentially living the same as they were 500 years ago? I mean philosophically and religiously.
One of my great fears about this invasion disguised as an experiment in exporting democracy to the people of the Middle East was that it was a pipe dream from the beginning.
I just don’t see any serious commitment by the vast majority of the people there who can effect change to do so.
Not even by the quasi-puppet government of Malaki.
Extreme poverty, a near complete religious intolerance, three extremely disparate and untrusting tribes, hopelessness and a very long history of being against anything from the west are just not the ingredients to implement this US led democracy.
