I’m not accusing Mike Luckovich of hacking this cartoon, but it’s an old gag, and I saw the identical idea two weeks ago in a guest cartoon in the AJC.
Comedians think alike, so many times parallel constructs do occur. So lets forget this.
After all, we’ve got a bozo to save and a mime to convince. I dont know what that means. Now I’m afraid.

Did you all get a load of Sarah, the drunken flight attendant? The pilot knew that this stewardess was drunk and he threw her OFF the plane? What a clod! I would have told her to “go lay down in the baggage compartment” and that I’d check on her later. (wink)
What a clod. Life could be a dream, my friends, if you only knew how to think off your feet…….

It’s a little hard for me to take those complaining about all this seriously, though, since A) they will be the first ones screeching about an “intelligence failure” after the next terrorist attack, and B) every one of them seems perfectly unbothered by the income tax. If you care about privacy, you should detest the income tax — the most onerous intrusion of government into our personal lives in the history of our nation. And if you support the income tax, don’t bother whining to me about your text messages to Istanbul. Worrying about the NSA overseas while the IRS exists here at home is like complaining mostly that your rapist left the toilet seat up when he fled. It shows a certain inability to grasp the scale of the various offenses committed against you.
How true, the same people that will fill out a stack of forms and allow the government to monitor their whole life, just so they can get a tax payer funded check every 2 weeks, will wail the loudest about the privacy of phone calls made to Iran.

Anyone who can’t relate to this toon hasn’t done much flying recently (past 60 days). Delays are routine and cancellations are rampant.
Northwest Airlines just caved into pilot demands for overtime pay for more than 80 hours per month. Now I understand that they have ground time, training, etc. But everyone else works a minimum of 162 hours per month.
And the bankruptcy cycle begins anew.

My son just flew (United) to spend the weekend with a friend who was deploying to Iraq, second time (that made it personal, not theoretical - but that’s another discussion). He paid an extra $400 to get there on a Fri at 1:30 instead of Fri at 10 pm. Flight delays on a connecting flight. He arrived 10:30 pm. Oh, the delay was not weather - United wanted to change out flight crews, did so, then realized another crew was unavailable, then said, “oh, our mistake, we had a weather delay.”
Goldie has the right idea with road trips - more relaxing, better scenery, meet some nice people along the way.

Paul,
Last Sunday my wife was flying to D.C. for a consulting job. Her scheduled early flight was canceled and she was re-booked on a P.M. flight. It too was canceled and Delta re-booked her on a Monday flight at 7:30 A.M. That’s a lousy time when it’s 100 miles each way to the airport. Thank goodness she checked her email before she left: flight canceled again. She finally got out on a 7:00 P.M. flight, but wised up and booked AirTran for her return leg.
This all occurred at end-of-month. It is my suspicion that Delta had the same problem as Northwest, but didn’t come clean about it to the press.

Sarah, the flight attendant, should be ashamed - what an absolutely horrible picture. It’s almost too gross to look at, how embarrassing.
Paul, what an awful story about your son. I’m sorry to hear that. I hope he got his money back, but yeah, I’m sure that’s about as likely to happen as Gonzales telling the truth while his mouth is open! Seriously, though, I hate to hear things like that.
I even hate to hear more that his friend was deployed for the second time, I have a life long buddy who just got back from his third tour - luckily.

Terrible situation for a business person - airline’s responsible, the traveler takes the hit for not being able to get there on time. This should answer the questions from critics who wonder why Presidential candidates give up the private jets and fly commercial.
Oh, every flight I’ve been on recently has been full, full, full. And still they can’t make money.
Bosch
Thanks. No money back from the airline. Thankfully, I found out his friend was being deployed to southern Iraq (formerly under British control) doing the initial interrogation processing of prisoners. Very, very secure area, huge compound. That’s what gets me about the publicity of a few dishonorable renegades becoming the standard in the public’s mind about how the US military treats prisoners. It’s about as different from the day-to-day reality they operate under (and want to operate under) as you can get.
Good news about your friend. Hopefully three will be it - forever.

He always sends me his right-wing bs political propoganda, and I send him my Moveon.org emails. To be honest, I’ve stopped reading them, but I like to send them to him just to get him riled up! That’s the only reason I haven’t unsubscribed to them.
I totally agree with what you said about the public perception being about a few bad men (and women), I talk to my military buddy alot, and it’s good to get his perspective. He has been in the military for 20 years and he even hates Bush now. I guess Dusty would call him unpatriotic because of that, combat soldier and all that he is.

Patreaus was the general responsible for distributing and documenting the arms we gave to the new Iraqi Army. He’s incompetent. He doesn’t know where those weapons are now.
Now, we’re supposed to trust that he’ll tell the truth about the surge? He’s obviously a Bush lackey. He should have been fired, but Bush probably gave him an offer he couldn’t refuse: Report positively on the surge or you’re fired for incompetence.

Well, this morning’s cartoon evokes memories of cross country trips by car, not by air.
On one of my first summer trips to Arizona to work on a reservation, two of my children went with me. We stopped at every state line and took pictures. We took pictures of the first sejuaros we saw. We took a picture of the Texas Ranger who gave us a ticket in a speed trap in Jefferson Davis County.(“You’re going to give a poor Southerner a 5 miles over-the-speed-limit ticket in JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY? Answer: Yes, mam.) I gave it a good try, anyway.
There were other exciting moments such as when my 15 year old daughter was zipping down the road, doing some practice driving, and a new tire went kabloom!!. We made it to Arizona anyway.
Air travel is fast but you can’t beat a trip in the car for excitement.

Some here have made some valid points about basic personality in leaders (actually, directed towards our current President) - particularly criticizing a “with me or against me” mentality, graciousness in dealing with political opponents and shunning those with whom he disagrees.
Imagine my surprise when I found these same characteristics, according to the NY Times, in Hillary’s dealings with Sen Obama. I thought she was supposed to be a uniter - if she treats a fellow Democrat like this, what will she be like as a President - with her own staff?

Thanks for the heads-up. I missed the last Rep debate, appears I didn’t miss much. I believe all the Dem candidates voted against the FISA revisions, so they’ll all be able to say “not me, not me.” So I’m not sure how much I’ll learn in hearing an opponent of the measure questioning other opponents. It would have been better if the questioner had taken the “pro” position and pressed the “con” candidates to specifically justify their “no” vote.

Dust ball - Sunday I posed a question to you on Wooten’s blog about your favorite subject… I asked you to please cite examples of how posting a dissenting opinion on the “war on terror” could be construed as aiding the enemy. I seriously am interested in your line of thinking here…for one, you dwell on this topic much of the time but never bother to expound.
Yesterday you wrote…”Look at liberal voices here. Stop supporting the war!! Keep saying there is no mission in Iraq!! Say that the best supplied military in the world does not have adequate armor, helmets, etc. Say that generals are all “yes” men to Bush. Stop the “surge” before it is half way finished. Delay funding. Overlook every postive thing in Iraq (including their soccer team.) Say we are bombing poor innocent civilians. Act like Americans just like to kill.
Yes, liberals like you keep it up because you want to lose the war and discredit the Republican President you hate. You would even use a fallen bridge for propaganda.”
Are you really convinced that people (when I say people, I’m talking about roughly 70% of Americans)are expressing their opinions openly because they want America to fail in Iraq? Should we just all be silenced then? A “if you don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing at all” type mindset? So, exactly who is the communist here?

“Iraq’s political crisis worsened Monday as five more ministers announced a boycott of Cabinet meetings — leaving the embattled prime minister’s unity government with no members affiliated with Sunni political factions.”
Obviously, we need more troops to solve this problem. Only a brilliant military strategy will get these Sunnis back in the fold. Once we have a sound military response, I am certain that the respective parties will come to the necessary agreements that will allow us to leave. You see the surge gave the Sunni’s the ‘breathing room’ they needed to walk away. What we need now is more security so that they can find their way back.

Good afternoon all.
IN THE NEWS at 12:45:
The situation with Newt’s blunt assessment of this administration and the blunder called Iraq, is indeed hard to figure out.
At first, I thought perhaps the guy truly has had some sort of epiphany, but I should have known better.
For two reasons.
One, he talks about the polarization in Washington as on of the main problems. And he is correct. Yet he was THE very architect of the slash and burn personal attacks that he now derides. Not terribly credible. Not until he acknowledges that he was one of the main people in creating it.
Secondly, he says the GOP getting its hat handed to it in last November’s election was because of a lack of performance. NOT values.
He just couldn’t be more wrong, IMHO.
The unquestionable incompetence of this “new” GOP is partly because their values are so skewed.
And that is a big part of why many, many Americans who once agreed with them, have now given up on the neo-cons as a failed exercise in reactionary politics.
We desperately need REAL conservatives, men of honor and integrity in this country. And I believe Newt wouldn’t know one if he sat in his lap…

Bosch - Raw Apple Cider Vinegar will have whats called “the mother” in it…really a growing enzyme that occurs naturally in apple cider vinegar when it ferments. There’s lots of info on it…sadly I don’t have it in front of me…I sell used books and these things just pass through my hands…I have taken to the concoction though and it is amazing the health benefits. Down here I can get tupelo honey which is really better…you can mix it in your fresh orange juice and at first it is quite nasty, I’m not gonna lie to you…but it does grow on you. Try watering down some fresh squeezed oranges w/ the 2tsp RACV and 2tsp of tupelo honey…not too bad once you acquire the taste. Try googling RACV…I’m sure you’ll see what I mean about the health benefits. Peace out for a while -

Duh,
Glad to see you presented scientific facts disputing global warming. That “Blah, blah, blah” statement really got me to thinking.
A general reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere may contribute to the development of ice ages. Carbon dioxide is an important greenhouse gas. Decreases in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere may lead to global cooling.
Therefore, common logic says the increase of CO2 will cause the opposite effect.

Our military understands that we can’t ever win a “war on terror” by always trying to kill all the terrorists — if the Iraqi gov’t will not solve their political problems, there is no military “winning” in Iraq.
And as Gen. Wesley Clark states in an e-mail to his subscribers: “We can’t succeed in Iraq with the numbers of troops, no matter how good they are, because you can’t succeed in this war just by killing people or intimidating the opposition. Dave Petraeus would be the first one to tell you that. The military’s part of the solution. It’s not the answer. The answer’s the politics.”
The answer’s the politics, and the Iraqis aren’t willing to make the political sacrifices needed to keep their country intact.

Has anybody been paying attention to the negotiations taking place in Iraq. Politicians are out and technocrats are in. The Iraqi parliament is still out of town.
Will the Kurds compromise on oil revenues? They already did in June.
Will the Turks accept the Kurds. Handshakes between all after the elections. Keeping in mind that the Turks are desperately seeking admission into the E.U., they’ve had to initiate some changes to their constitution.
Some Kurds are very receptive to oil companies coming into their fields. There will have to be cooperation between Turkey/Kurds or Kurds/Iraqi government.
Bush is working to mend fences with the Turks.
Democrats in congress are pushing a resolution on the Armenian genocide during WWI, something that the Turks adamantly reject.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s episode of “Winding It Up” in the Middle East.

Speaking against the war in Iraq will only embolden the enemy. Speaking against the President only emboldens the enemy. Conducting opinion polls only emboldens the enemy. Participating in opinion polls only emboldens the enemy. Having elections wherein the candidates of the president’s own party essentially call him a moron, only emboldens the enemy. Notifying parents and wives and children of their family memebers deaths only emboldens the enemy. The Press reporting about bombings in Iraq emboldens the enemy. There really is nothing you can do that will not only embolden the enemy. So if you are a true patriot, give blind alliegance to Our Dear Leader and his war policy.
If we had no press, no elections, no free speech, do you think the terrorists would have tried to take our freedom? Of course, not. They aren’t bombing China are they? We ought to take a lesson there.
And as we know only free societies lose wars. The Nazis had to fight the Russians, Great Britain, the US and their questioning, traitorous free press along with a public that was free to speak their minds. No wonder they lost. We won because we didn’t have to worry about free speech or elections or anything that might embolden the enemy and that is just as the founders wanted it

Bosch,
I hate to burst your bubble, as I imagine you are jumping for joy at what you foolishly perceive as Newt moving to the Left, but The “Phony War” is an historical phrase that refers to Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement toward Hitler.
Newt does not believe that Bush is being aggressive enough, so don’t expect him to be marching in any Peace marches with the Moonbats.
NRO translates it nicely here:
… If you read what he actually said, however, Newt said that the war is entirely real. What is “phony,” he argued, is the administration’s approach to the war — including the reluctance to come to terms with the facts that radical Islam is the enemy, that you can’t win it in a single theater (like Iraq), and that any serious approach would require real thought about energy independence.

You are right Duh, American’s don’t want to leave Iraq. Only 66% of Americans want to leave Iraq, so by my math a solid majority still wants to stay. (200% means all, right?)
You are also right that the entirety of the election was decided on Mark Foley. Let’s hope the next election isn’t decided on Rep. Bob Allen’s (R) attempt to pay a guy so that he could blow him.
I’m sorry I thought that you liked Iraqis. I thought that was why you wanted our troops to die for their freedom but I forgot about all of the Iraqi 9/11 hijackers. How many Iraqi’s were involved again?
And you are right liberals are absurd. They think that we can’t use military force to get a functioning democracy in Iraq. How stupid are they?

Why doesn’t anybody ever remember that I was once a powerful Senator? In fact I was MAJORITY leader for most of Bush’s first two years.
