What ever was written on that “napkin” is what all of Europe has agreed to:
{{{There’s been a capitulation on global warming, but it hasn’t happened in the Oval Office. The Kyoto cheerleaders at the United Nations and the European Union are realizing their government-run experiment in climate control is a mess, one that’s incidentally failed to reduce carbon emissions. They’ve also understood that if they want the biggest players on board—the U.S., China, India—they need an approach that balances economic growth with feel-good environmentalism. Yesterday’s G-8 agreement acknowledged those realities and tolled Kyoto’s death knell. Mr. Bush, 1; sanctimonious greens, 0.}}}
Haha, Bush remaking the world in his image, geez.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ®.
Like we really need more proof as to how stupid liberals are:
{{{Hinter Bollhagen, Germany —- By land and sea —- and even stark naked —- protesters mounted a concerted effort to break through the police cordon around the Group of Eight summit Thursday, with officers on horseback chasing some away from a security fence and police boats ramming others on the Baltic Sea.-Urinal}}}
8 paragraphs in this “story” not one mention of what these blooming idiots are protesting the G8 for.
Just a delightfully written tale of mindless violence, glorifying these goony protestors like they are some freaking pioneers.
I bet you could ask these children to explain why the G8 is causing them so much distress and all you will get in return is some stupid socialist slogan.
And what of the parents that taught these infants to forgo the democratic process, skip the legwork of gathering a majority and convincing that majority that your ideas are better, have the world vote on it, no, these idiots have only been taught to use violence as a tool, to create a scene like a big fat stupid whining baby.
All for NOTHING.
Who would pay attention to them?
Answer their attacks with a water canon.
What a waste.

I wonder what it is about Republican politicians that they can’t be civil in the hallowed halls of Congress be it state or federal.
Cheney tells Leahy to go f@ck himself and now a Republican in Alabama punches a Democratic colleague. What a sad bunch these Republicans are.

Further, one of those young soldiers has already committed suicide after going into the prisoners’ cages as an interrogator in northern Iraq.

[[What ever was written on that “napkin” is what all of Europe has agreed to]]
So just when do you think we’ll see an ML cartoon illustrating that?
Regarding the Immigration bill: [[Democrats vote for the bill, Republicans vote against it, the president fails again,’ ” said Majority Leader Harry Reid]]
We hear all the time how many on this blog aren’t hardcore Left partisans - but I’ll wager we’ll hear few laments from the regulars over the death of the bill. Bemoaning the loss of new voters, power blocks and entitlements will not occur as they can’t be seen to give credit to anything Pres Bush sponsors.
BTW - I think half a loaf is better than no loaf. Pass it and amend it later. Single-issue amendments would show the strength behind the objections.
Finally - I read a recap of columnists’ thoughts on the last Democratic debate. One cited a Hillary quote that hasn’t had much play: “The differences among us are minor.” What happened to “we’re not in lockstep?” So what’s preventing them (other than ego) from dropping out and throwing their support to ex-Sen Gravel?

Now that trashing Bush on TV is de rigueur for GOP presidential wannabes, one might think that the right-wing rhetoric of fear and violence might fall by the wayside, too. Guess again. Rather than dump that old Bush-Cheney bunk about a vote for the Democrats being a vote for nuclear annihilation by “terrorists,” many Republicans are framing the debate with a new word: “Jihadism.”

Possibly they’ve been taking lessons from some of the posters here?
Regarding Alabama: so you’re on line with repudiating the notion that some words cannot be uttered to members of other groups because they would cause a violent, uncontrollable reaction in those who hear them?
Mrs. Godzilla - I believe I heard the Sheriff will have to appear, also. Possible contempt charges. The judge should put him in a cell next to Ms Hilton. And when Paris talks about “anxiety attacks, depression, difficulty coping” maybe the judge will say “Welcome to life. Deal with it.”
Regarding the torture article - lots of allegations, short on explanatory facts. I did not see the Arizona Daily Sun article, but did find part of a reprint which said
[[Peterson had a hard time separating being an interrogator from who she was as an individual, according to the article.
The soldier apparently had a lot of empathy for Iraqi detainees, so much so she was reprimanded and reassigned after just two days as an interrogator, the newspaper article stated.
She reportedly was concerned detainees did not have showers in the cage “where they were held” or other accommodations, did not like being required to be nice to one person and harsh to another and was particularly upset when only three of 43 detainees questioned were found worthy of additional attention, the newspaper said the investigating document stated.]]
SfC Peterson’s death is tragic. But to use her death, over issues detailed above (I’m not saying the details are complete - but if those isssues were the substance of her conflict) - well, for groups to use her death to advance a related political agenda is despicable.

Paul,
I believe they could get most of that immigration bill passed if they didn’t insist on doing it all at once. Pass an enforcement bill with teeth then prove you’re willing to actually enforce it and the rest will easily pass through after.
That compromise bill is so vastly unpopular that Harry Reid is making a huge mistake by saying Democrats want it, but Republicans killed it. I think I’ll spend the next 18 months reminding him of that.

I’d said earlier my initial impression of do one, then the next, was a stall tactic to kill it. However one interprets events, it seems your recommendation is about the only one that might have a chance of passing. So if no bill on enforcement, with language stating the other issues will be forthcoming, I’ll look forward to your reminders to Sen Reid - as well as the Minority Leader.
Mrs Godzilla - regarding the Huffington article about a “new” word - Jihadism. Whether it’s dim Republicans or ignorant Huffington posters, they’re anywhere from about 20 to 2000 years late with their “discovery” of the “new” word “Jihadism.”

hey LuckDull, doesn’t this go against your ideas? I mean, I guess this guy doesn’t support the troops, supports Al-Queda, blah blah blah…
{{{ Iraq war supporters have repeatedly claimed that U.S. troops are harmed when Congress debates alternatives to the Bush administration’s failed policies in Iraq. “Think about the message we have sent them,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said recently. “We have undermined their efforts, lowered their morale, and clearly sent the wrong message.” Vice President Cheney said the war debate was “detrimental to our troops.”
Today, however, Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, President Bush’s proposed “war czar,” disregarded these claims.
“I don’t believe it undercuts their morale,” Lute told the Senate Armed Services Committee during his confirmation hearing. U.S. soldiers “understand the democratic process,” he said, “and, in fact, that’s what we’ve sworn to protect and defend.” }}}

Lots of hopscotch on topics on this forum. Point is raised, other information brought in which may affect the conclusion (no shower in your cell is now called “torture”), rather than staying on topic the attempt is to use the “justify bad behavior by citing other bad behavior.”
The President is the Commander in Chief. Presidents, SecDefs (including Clinton’s Republican SecDef, who had custom made, $1,000 apiece flight suits made for him and his wife to wear during photo ops, uh, I mean, meetings with the troops) do it and will continue to do it. The only way to prevent it (some will say any meeting with troops, at which photos are released, is political and a photo op) would be to ban all cameras and recording devices at any grouping of the President and any member of the military. Including when he gets on or off Air Force One or Marine One. That ain’t gonna happen.
Political? Sure. But every President (and his SecDef, and the Service secretaries) will continue to do it. I guarantee - if elected, Hillary may not wear a flight suit, but if elected, we’ll see lots more photos of her with troops than we already have seen. It goes with the office.
Despicable? Only if you’re a partisan. Absolutely, mind-numbingly political? Of course!

Einstein dies and goes to heaven. At the Pearly Gates, Saint Peter tells him, “You look like Einstein, but you have NO idea the lengths that some people will go to sneak into Heaven. Can you prove who you really are?” Einstein ponders for a few seconds and asks, “Could I have a blackboard and some chalk?” Saint Peter snaps his fingers and a blackboard and chalk instantly appear. Einstein proceeds to describe with arcane mathematics and symbols his theory of relativity. Saint Peter is suitably impressed. “You really ARE Einstein!” he says. “Welcome to heaven!” The next to arrive is Picasso. Once again, Saint Peter asks for credentials. Picasso asks, “Mind if I use that blackboard and chalk?” Saint Peter says, “Go ahead.” Picasso erases Einstein’s equations and sketches a truly stunning mural with just a few strokes of chalk. Saint Peter claps. “Surely you are the great artist you claim to be!” he says. “Come on in!” Then Saint Peter looks up and sees George W. Bush. Saint Peter scratches his head and says, “Einstein and Picasso both managed to prove their identity. How can you prove yours?” George W. looks bewildered and says, “Who are Einstein and Picasso?” Saint Peter sighs and says, “Come on in, George.”

I’d taken a brief look at the entitlement numbers - also the cost of the current system (lots of fun with numbers). My frustration is the problem gets worse every day - not nothing at all will happen. I looked at it as bad as the “fix” was, it’s still better than what we have, which will only get exponentially worse. Rather like a bunch of engineers standing around discussing how to repair a levee which keeps sprouting leaks. They’ll drown before they do anything (apologies to any engineers here).
But that’s a brilliant point about “Once this bill with all its entitlements was passed there was NO turning back.” One of those, oh, duh, talk about optimistically naive hope - Congress will readress an entitlement program.
Rather like this story about what I see as a fine attempt by the Democratic Congress to do away (finally) with the Alternative Minimum Tax. Past Democratic and Republican Congresses just kicked the can down the road. But the Democrats followed the unimaginative Party line of “tax the rich.” Sure they have paygo, and this is a permanent fix, but how about a little creative - end some corporate subsidies (and anger your contributors?) or abolish some Federal programs or agencies (and anger voters, contributors, and taxpayer money recipients?).

Response before I go. That was a tongue-in-cheek response to Hillary’s assertion the differences between the Democratic candidates are minimal. I think there are some pretty fundamental differences - as there are between the Republican candidates. And that’s a good thing.
Hillary has a difficult time on Iraq. While line Army troops may be reduced, she’s recently stated other missions (training, air support, intel) which will require tens of thousands of troops indefinitely.
Which is just one reason I’d like to see a Manhattan-style project (not JUST conservation or JUST drilling or JUST alternative fuels/sources) for energy. Which will affect a lot of “free market choice” but would have a target of zero Middle East oil imports. Then I’d be happy with a zero military presence (other than maybe Marine embassy guards) in the Middle East. And a bunch of other places, too.
Hey, isn’t that part of the articles of faith mantra of a neocon? :)
I really must run - cheers

Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military.
Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat.
Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.
Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.
Somehow those afraid to fight an illegal invasion decades ago are allowed to send soldiers to die for an illegal invasion they started.
Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.
Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerated.
Somehow the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people is tolerated.
Somehow subversion of the Bill of Rights and The Constitution is tolerated.
Somehow suspension of Habeas Corpus is supposed to keep this country safe.
Somehow torture is tolerated.
Somehow lying is tolerated.

It may come as a surprise to you, but there are more poltical viewpoints out there than “wacko liberal” and “wacko conservative.”
Why is it any less appropriate to comment on the intellectual dishonesty of partisanship than it is to comment on the intellectual dishonesty of partisans?
I just find it amusing how opposing partisans are so similar in their arguments and thought processes. They are equally intellctually dishonest. Look at Deport Dusty’s post above. It is the same empty nonsense that LuckoDull would post. They even share the lame device of calling anonymous strangers cowards for not sharing their narrow views.

If you want to get down to the nitty gritty, please remember the conclusions on prehistoric times. The Native Americans would have to leave North America also. They came across the Bering Straits to Alaska from Asia. So that leaves wildlife as the first “roamers” of North America.
Conclusions? Wildlife? Roamers?

Somehow a narrative is more important than reality.
Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.
Somehow the most reasonable, trusted and respected country in the world has become one of the most irrational, belligerent, feared, and distrusted countries in the world.
Somehow being politically informed, diligent, and skeptical has been replaced by apathy through active ignorance.
Somehow the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country.
Somehow this is tolerated.
Somehow nobody is accountable for this.
Incredible that a neo-con would even utter his name but considering the warped, hypocritical, uninformed and immoral source, believable.

GoldieDhimmi,
Regarding your enthusiasm for liberals using vegetable oil to fuel trains* what do you have to say about this?:
Only a few years ago, oil from palm trees was viewed as an ideal biofuel: a cheap, renewable alternative to petroleum that would fight global warming. Energy companies began converting generators and production soared./ Now, it’s increasingly seen as an example of how well-meaning efforts to limit climate-changing carbon emissions may backfire./Marcel Silvius, a climate expert at Wetlands International in the Netherlands, led a team that compared the benefits of palm oil to the ecological harm from destroying virgin Asian rain forests to develop lucrative new plantations./His conclusion: “As a biofuel, it’s a failure.”
That’s what liberals excel at - well-meaning ideas with disastrous results.
Isn’t it better to drill in ANWR and offshore, and use nuclear power than to destroy the rain forests and starve the poor by increasing demand for ethanol?
*It only accounts for 20% of the fuel

How many of you Moonbats admire Che’Guevara? No wonder Che’ tee shirts do such a brisk business!:
Twice, Che plotted terrorist attacks against New York City. In November 1962, the FBI cracked a terrorist plot by Cuban agents who targeted Macy’s, Gimbel’s, Bloomingdale’s and Grand Central Terminal. They planned to blow up those landmarks with 12 incendiary devices and 500 kilos of TNT the day after Thanksgiving. Several months before visiting New York in December 1964 and being feted by the toast of the city’s intelligentsia, Che hatched a plan with the Black Liberation Army to blow up the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the Washington Monument. The plotters were infiltrated in 1965 by a sharp-eyed NYPD cadet. - Che detested rock and roll and railed against “long hairs,” “lazy youths,” and homosexuals.

Gosh, I can’t IMAGINE why the Republican Presidential candidates are talking about the threat of Jihadists!
In a horrific story of how an young Indonesian Muslim beheads an elderly Buddhist mill owner (kinda like a gang initiation ceremony I guess), we learn this:
The killing in February was one in a spate of beheadings that has shocked Thailand, a nation with no past history of the practice, and fueled fears that the brutal terrorist tactics of the Middle East are spreading in Asia./ Twenty-five beheadings — including 10 already this year — have been reported in southern Thailand since an Islamic-inspired insurgency erupted in 2004, claiming more than 2,200 lives…/”Beheadings are certainly on the rise outside of the Middle East proper,” said Timothy Furnish, professor of Middle Eastern history at Georgia Perimeter College. “These groups do take their cues from … hardcore Islamic thought coming out of the Arab world. Beheading infidels not only shocks, but also demonstrates Islamic bona fides to other groups.”/ Thai authorities say jihad videos from the Middle East, captured from rebel training camps, may be inspiring young men like Waekaji. One clip said to have come from Iraq shows a woman lying on her side on a patch of grass as a man slowly cuts her throat with a long knife. Blood spurts from the wound, the screaming finally stops and her head is completely severed

I’ve reviewed sections and summaries of Public Law 99-603 Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. How long before $500,000 is “middle class”? That’s exactly what went wrong with the AMT in the first place.
This illustrates the idiocy of coming up with arbitrary income figures to receive punitive (or favorable) tax treatment.

The past six years have unquestionably been a disaster for the nation and for American democracy. But is it truly the swan song for the Republican Party?
How many years will it take to undo the incredible damage wrought by this terribly unqualified President?
Remember when the nation was not so almost universally disrespected and was strong and relatively united?
It is very sad to see this happening and sometimes I actually feel sorry for President Bush. He is to blame for the quagmire we now suffer through daily, but I am more disheartened by the American voters who empowered him in the first place. There were way too many warnings and way too many personal failures on his part to ignore, but many did so anyway.
And my heart aches for the 3500 American families who have had their lives ruined, in my opinion, by this failed experiment. There will be many, many more.
I am almost embarrassed to admit this, but sometimes I long for the days of Bill Clinton, who was much more like FDR - strong enough to react with reason and purpose rather than with blind anger, lies and selfish motives.

We need to refrain from using the term global warming. The small-minded Funny morons® latch on to it and refer to weather reports like “Up to 8 inches of snow fell in the Big Horn Mountains in northern Wyoming” as if it proves anything.
Let’s use the more accurate term climate change because as the climate becomes more and more unstable we will continue to experience wacky weather. 8 inches of snow in June is NOT NORMAL.
The overall outcome will indeed be a hotter planet.

Wasn’t interested in parsing, just the intent and meaning. Saying “anyone who does not support Bush is not a true American” seems pretty clear. I’ve seen one side accuse the other of saying precisely that, or of saying those who agree with any policy are wingnuts, ignorant, etc, but don’t recall anyone saying what was alleged.
Regarding Korea, so what, growing wiser?
Well, it was Senator Kerry while running for President. I viewed it as entirely political (Bush suggests = oppose it). So if Democrats are learning from history, growing wiser by not engaging in kneejerk political opposition, well, that’s a good thing.
Just struck me as funny that keeping troops in Iraq for a long time is a lousy idea - Korea cited - while Korea and Germany both had troop levels slashed in the last few years.

You know how when you throw a pebble in a pond, the ripples move outward?
(((Leftist parties dominated European politics throughout the 1990s and the early years of the 21st century; however, 2007 will see the end of the left as a leading force on the Continent. This slow shift has been accompanied by a move toward the right that reaches farther than the traditional “Big Three” — Germany, France and the United Kingdom — to include Poland, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. In fact, a series of elections has allowed center and right parties to take the reins in all the large European states. It is time to consider the possibilities raised by a conservative Europe.)))
(((Stratfor first forecast the decline of the European left in 2005, when Germany and Poland both elected center-right coalitions. The current agenda of the right in both countries favors participation in military alliances such as NATO and closer U.S. relations. The Polish government is an avid supporter of the missile defense shield proposed by the United States, and under Merkel, Germany is considering getting behind such a program — a policy her leftist predecessor, former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, finds inconceivable.)))
(((For the first time in decades, Germany is a full and powerful member of the European community. More important, for the first time in centuries, there is no established political regime in Europe to counter German ambitions. The second is the United States, whose reach and influence in Europe runs deep.)))
(((For now, these two powers are more or less on the same page, sharing concerns about terrorism, energy security, immigration and Russian relations. The latter is the issue of the day; the Kremlin’s primary strategic thrust always has been to divide and conquer the European Union, and so — from the U.S. viewpoint — being able to count on a powerful and friendly Germany to ride herd on the Continent is no small blessing.)))
(((For now, Russia is the clear danger in Eurasia, and the German-led allied states of Europe are the perfect tool to keep the Kremlin in check.)))

Some professors are extremists but there is no doubt that overall, American universities still provide the brightest and most rational minds.
I believe you are using hyperbole when you say that American education is dominated by Leftist professors. And EVEN IF you were correct, it is my considerable experience that all but a tiny percentage simply teach their courses and offer no clues as to their politics.
It sounds as if your experience was very different. Where did you go to college?
These are after all the last remaining institutions that offer ultra-progressive opportunities afforded nowhere else. Business generally doesn’t. Government certainly doesn’t. Thinking outside of the box on steroids, if you will. That is why they offer degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences not Conservative Arts and Sciences.
Besides how is this even remotely related to my statement that this republic was much more respected and united before this administration? I simply can’t see the connection.

Hi again Buy Danish.
The recorded history of mankind has been replete with one tribe or nation slaughtering another. I believe one of the greatest books ever written is The Outline of History by H. G. Wells. Yep, that H. G. Wells. It is very long but absolutely fascinating and details the entire recorded history of men up to the onset of WWII when it was published. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any and everyone.
As we have evolved as a species we have become slightly less blood-thirsty, but not much. However, I believe that the smarter we become, the less violent we become, and that is a good thing.
I would never dare to speak for those Leftists who just HATE the fact that this country was settled by European White Men that you refer to. But it is interesting that you use the word settle. Yes, I suppose that you could say that Cortez and the Spanish settled in Central America, but there are certainly more descriptive and accurate terms don’t you think?
And I am splitting hairs here somewhat but Cro-Magnons never lived on this continent.
But again, and much more importantly, your response has no pertinence with my original proposition. None.
Have a good weekend all!

Ho hum,
I go out for awhile and seems like it’s Girls Gone Wild here. Poor old Daniel thinks he rules this blog. Sad case. I suppose he wants everybody who disagrees with him to cutnrun.
Daniel, respect for the President is what is lacking with liberals. When you say the words that terrorists want to hear, you encourage them. That means undermine, undercut and underestimate your own country. Pointing out disagreements is one thing. The constant, untruthful, even salacious comments about the President and his family are beyond anything you can call sensible, much less patriotic. There is a difference between disagreement and idiotic frenzy.
There!! I’ve said it. Patriotic!! The truth can be tolerated but outrageous fabrications have become common with liberals.
Loyal and free,
You are right that in America’s universities there are some very bright minds. I know because several of my children are in universities, one who has already taken the first qualifiers for a PhD in bio-chemistry.
The professors are very bright in their field of study and almost all are very liberal. In fact, I think it would be truly politically incorrect and seldom seen for a professor to be conservative. I have heard of only one.
Perhaps you have forgotten UCLA and the utter dissention they have produced many times. This is not just a student thing. It is instigated and led by professors. It has spread into the university systems as THE way to be. That is very sad.
Remember the historical reminders from WWII.”A slip of the lip may sink a ship.” Let’s not sink our country.

I’ve always found it interesting that when it comes to economics, students tend to be more conservative.
A professor of Economics at Harvard University had this to say about economics majors. He was responding to a question:
(((As a Princeton grad myself, I have full confidence in your teacher. Putting that issue aside, let me address your central question: Does the study of economics tend to make people conservative?)))
(((I believe the answer is, yes. My experience is that many students find that their views become somewhat more conservative after studying economics. There are at least three, related reasons.)))
(((First, in some cases, students start off with utopian views of public policy, where a benevolent government can fix all problems. One of the first lessons of economics is that life is full of tradeoffs. That insight, completely absorbed, makes many utopian visions less attractive. Once you recognize, for example, that there is a tradeoff between equality and efficiency, as economist Arthur Okun famously noted, many public policy decisions become harder.)))
(((Second, some of the striking insights of economics make one more respectful of the market as a mechanism for coordinating a society. Because market participants are motivated by self-interest, a person might naturally be suspect of market-based societies. But after learning about the gains from trade, the invisible hand, and the efficiency of market equilibrium, one starts to approach the market with a degree of admiration and, indeed, awe.)))
(((Third, the study of actual public policy makes students recognize that political reality often deviates from their idealistic hopes. Much income redistribution, for example, is aimed not toward the needy but toward those with political clout. This Dave Barry column, which is reprinted in Chapter 22 of my favorite economics textbook, describes a good example.)))
(((For these three reasons, many students in introductory economics courses become more conservative. Nonetheless, studying economics does not by itself determine one’s political ideology. I know good economists who are distinctly right of center and good economists who are slightly left of center. In my department at Harvard, I would guess that Democrats outnumber Republicans among the faculty at large (although there is surely more political balance in the economics department than in most other departments at the un

Nice words on having a classy disagreement.
Saying many university faculty are nonbiased is similar to saying American media is nonbiased. Every so often one runs across a survey or report showing faculty party affiliation. Republican (if one cares to equate Republican with more conservative and Democrat as more liberal) doesn’t show up nearly as often. It often varies by geographic location or size - but by and large I think the nature of the beast is liberal.
I made a comment, my son smiled and said “you can’t say that one culture is better than another, Dad. They’re different and their culture is their culture.” I said “what about Nazi Germany?” He said “They weren’t a culture. They didn’t last long enough.” I asked “And what if they won, established the Thousand Year Reich and turned the Soviet Union, parts of America and all Africa into a vast concentration camp?” His answer: “I know it’s garbage, Dad. I said everything you said to the prof and I repeated to you the nonsense he told me. I’ve learned to keep my mouth shut, tell them on the test what they want to hear and get a good grade.” Sad, isn’t it? (BTW - he’s now in the business world and has a rep as a very straight shooter - don’t ask him a question if you don’t want to hear a straight answer).

“Loyal and Free”,
Apparently your antennae for irony and satire is a bit on the weak side.
I am fully aware that Cro-Magnon man did not inhabit this continent.
Indeed, if we were to follow Goldie’s idea that one needs to have established a homestead 10,000 years ago in order to lay claim to it, we would all be living in a very small and immensely overcrowded portion of the planet - and would be killing each other as we fought over the resources.
You’ll have to explain to us another time what the difference between “Ultra-Progressive” and “Leftist” is.
Despite your protestations to the contrary, it is undeniable that the trend in education has been to portray this country and its white, male, Christian founders as the enemy. Indeed, people like GoldieDhimmi complain about that all the time right here on this blog.
An educated adult should know that the definition of “liberal arts” has nothing to do with the word “conservative”.
Ironically, someone who calls themselves “Loyal and FREE” should be the first to know the difference.

UnFunny Moron,
Here’s a scoop for you about snow in the summer. It may not be “normal” but you can’t blame it on SUVs or the usual scapegoats:
“Eighteen Hundred and Froze To Death The Year There Was No Summer”
Of the cold summers in the period 1811 to 1817, the year 1816 has gone down in the annals of New England history as “The Year There Was No Summer,” the “Poverty Year” and “Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death.” The year began with a moderate but dry winter. Spring was tardy and continued very dry. The growing season from late spring to early fall, however, was punctuated by a series of devastating cold waves that did major damage to the crops and greatly reduced the food supply. In areas of central and northern New England, the summer had only two extended periods without frost or near freezing temperatures. A widespread snow fell in June. As a result, corn did not ripen and hay, fruits, and vegetables were greatly reduced in quantity and quality.
Why did this happen do you suppose? Was MAN to blame?
{{{Various theories have been put forward.
The most likely cause was volcanic influences. Proponents note that a number of major volcanic eruptions preceded 1816… The volcanic theory of climatic influence relates increased volcanic activity with decreased temperatures}}}
AND
{{{Other causes of temperature abnormalities which have been hypothesized include abnormal temperature of ocean waters over a large area, solar variations related to sunspot activity, or changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide or ozone content, but no data exist to uphold or refute these theories. The final possible cause is that the weather of 1816 was just a matter of chance —- that a series of events occurring at the right place and time could initiate the atmospheric conditions which became the weather of the Summer of 1816.}}}
It’s never “chance” or “mother nature” for you guys - it’s always the fault of greedy, polluting capitalists.

(((Aside from assessing the impact of isolated events like the GIMF ultimatum, Islamists have been following Western media to see how the daily clashes with the mujahideen in Iraq and elsewhere affect U.S. politics and public opinion. Below are two examples:)))
(((On March 11, 2007, the forum www.al-mohajroon.com posted a message titled “Poll: Americans Confirm Their Troops’ Defeat in Iraq.” [12] The message cited a Zogby poll in which over 50% of participants said that U.S. troops had failed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The message stated that “the poll was conducted in the shadow of the continuing collapse of the American occupier’s army, [which is yielding to] the surge of the Islamic resistance operations in these two countries.”)))
(((A March 28, 2007 posting on the www.al-mohajroon.com forum emphasized that the U.S. House of Representatives had refused to approve the war funding bill without a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq. [13] The message ended with the following call to the mujahideen: “Make [your] attacks on them more intensive in the months before their withdrawal… They have not [yet] received [a big enough] part of the punishment they deserve for the crime they committed against the umma’s rights… Let history record that an army entered [Iraq] but did not [manage to] leave.”)))

Anybody ever wonder why Dhimmi Danny doesn’t moan and wail about the federal “deficit” anymore, like he did in the past?
{{{The rise in earmark secrecy has been accompanied by a massive increase in spending. In total, House Democrats have authorized $98 billion in new federal spending this year alone. They added some $6 billion to the omnibus spending package approved in January and more than $20 billion to the fiscal year 2008 budget. They stuffed more than $17 billion in additional spending into the supplemental and have racked up an additional $9 billion (and counting) in the first four appropriations bills they’ve marked up at the House Appropriations Committee.}}}
Presto, just a few short months in charge of Congress and the sniveling Coward libs “solved” the Republican deficit spending catastrophe by, viola, outspending the Republicans.
So now it is no longer something to shriek about, right Dhimmi Danny?

It’s a good idea to see the actual poll questions that Rushncap is fretting about.
One question was:
Creationism, that is, the idea that God created human beings———>pretty much in their present form<——-at one time within the last 10,000 years
As is often the case, they questions are poorly framed, and it is easy to see why people would answer some form of “true” for the second question since man as we know it in its present form IS comparatively recent.
You’d think that rushncap the “scientist” would be more discerning and not so eager to jump to conclusions.

Geez, even the Nation agrees with me:
Capitalism is ingesting global warming as happily as a python swallowing a piglet. The press, which thrives on fearmongering, promotes the nonexistent threat as vigorously as it did the imminence of Soviet attack during the cold war, in concert with the arms industry. There’s money to be made, and so, as Talleyrand said, “Enrich yourselves!” The marquee slogan in the new cold war on global warming is that the scientific consensus is virtually unanimous. This is utterly false. The overwhelming majority of climate computer modelers, the beneficiaries of the $2 billion-a-year global warming grant industry, certainly believe in it but not necessarily most real climate scientists—people qualified in atmospheric physics, climatology and meteorology. Geologists are particularly skeptical. Or take Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov, of St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory. He says we’re on a warming trend but that humans have little to do with it, the agent being a longtime change in the sun’s heat. He says solar irradiance will fall within the next few years and we may face the beginning of an ice age. The Russian scientific establishment gave him a green light to use the nation’s space station to measure global cooling.
Check it out, I got thousands of climatologists and scientists in my court, you Kandy As-s Kowards got Jay Kookman in yous.
What else do you need to know?
Geez.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ®.
{{{He who defines the issues tends to determine the outcome of the election. The first World Trade Center bomber went to the rental agency the following day to get his deposit back on the truck used in the bombing. After he killed six people.
Who wants to be one of the next six, when the terrorists “get lucky” again?

Or are you trying to pull some mindless political stunt taking the focus of the country off of national security, something that you Kandy As-s Kowards are weak at?

It doesn’t bother the drive by media at all to endanger your lives by playing down the threat of terrorism, especially if it helps get them elected to some government bribe taking position.

However you can downplay the terrorist threat in Iraq, somewhat:
{{{Now the movement against Al Qaeda is spreading. “Salvation councils” similar to the Anbar Awakening have been formed in mostly Sunni Salahuddin province (north of Baghdad),Shiite-Sunni mixed Diyala province (northeast of the capital) and mostly Shiite Babil province (south of Baghdad). Amazing story about that Wilson guy - altho I just read the headlines. It’s trumped, though, by the story I read a few weeks back about the guy who had sex with a minor (ages are iffy - she was 15, he 17) she was pregnant, wanted to get married, her parents objected, he spent time in jail, got out, they got married, have another kid - and he’s still a registered sex offender.
Regarding the al Marri case - I think I can deduce your feelings on the case, but seriously, I’ve yet to hear anyone propose an encompassing strategy for dealing with enemy combatants (at war with US, no state sponsor). Seriously, if it’s right, proper and moral to grant these people US Constitutional rights, how does one draw the line at which rights they’re entitle to? Or are they entitled to all Constitutional rights? The door, as they say, has been opened.

Me, also on the al-Marri (US citizen). Different kettle of fish. So my original questions stand (non citizens, enemy combatants) - but this al-Marri thing - whew. I can see all sorts of problems. “Your honor, I was held for 45 days after I was captured in the Philippine jungle battling a Philippino-US strike team. I told them I was an American, they didn’t believe me, didn’t read me my rights, nothing. Will you dismiss charges now? I need to get back to the front.”
Big prob - are they simply traitors, criminals, combatants, or both? I’m afraid we’re going to see this on a much larger scale as time passes.

Ah, yes, ex Rep Tauzin, the guy we can thank for the noncompetes on the Medicare Prescription Plan.

Paul - we are not in a war. Did Congress ever declare war on anyone? Don’t think so. Therefore they are NOT enemy combatants, they are, at best, criminals. Enemy combatants get released once the war is over. Criminals get some sort of a trial. Holding a human being indefinitely, with no charges, with no end in sight, and, frequently, no compelling reason is entirely wrong. The door is opened, you say? So what? Tear the damn thing off the hinges, I say. If there is a case that they are dangerous, present it, convict them, sentence them. If not, let them go. Letting them rot in jail until such time as Czar Cheney decides he’s been amused long enough is not the American way.
By rushncap
June 11, 2007 2:31 PM | Link to this
Paul — al-Marri is not a citizen, he’s a legal resident. But that’s sort of besides the point. So the question to you is: if you do not give them a trial, or tell them what they’re accused of, what exactly do you propose? Hold them without charges until they die? Shoot them to spare the taxpayer expense? Let them go once we defeated all terrorism everywhere for all time? If al-Marri is an “enemy combatant” then he will be released once the “war” is over. Since no one knows what the war is, much less who we are fighting, the concept of this war being “over” is laughable. So that’s a no-go. Is he a traitor? Maybe. I seem to remember that treason requires a trial. Rosenbergs got one. Does al-Marri not deserve one because he’s Arabic?
Bottom line: there is no war. Only Congress shall have power to declare war, remember? Since there is no official war there are no “enemy combatants”. Therefore anyone we detain is a suspected criminal. Accused criminals get trials to determine their guilt, and then either punished or let go. There is no in-between. There is no gray area. There is no “I’ll hold you in jail until I feel like it”. None. There are several very precisely defined legal categories, and the Bush Junta and their lapdog DOJ better decide which category each person falls under, and act accordingly.

Well how about that, water again.
{{{The Achilles’ heel of the computer models, the cornerstone of CO2 fearmongering, is their failure to deal with water. As vapor, it’s a more important greenhouse gas than CO2 by a factor of twenty, yet models have proven incapable of dealing with it. The global water cycle is complicated, with at least as much unknown as is known. Water starts by evaporating from oceans, rivers, lakes and moist ground, enters the atmosphere as water vapor, condenses into clouds and precipitates as rain or snow. Each step is influenced by temperature and each water form has an enormous impact on global heat processes. Clouds have a huge, inaccurately quantified effect on heat received from the sun. Water on the Earth’s surface has different effects on the retention of the sun’s heat, depending on whether it’s liquid, which is quite absorbent; ice, which is reflective; or snow, which is more reflective than ice. Such factors cause huge swings in the Earth’s heat balance and interact in ways that are beyond the ability of computer climate models to predict.}}}

{{{Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn’t exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth. But few listen, despite the fact that I was one of the first Canadian Ph.Ds. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition. Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and was a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.}}}
{{{A leading climatologist is maintaining that water vapor near the surface-not CO2- and natural cycles are the two primary reasons for the current global warming trend, as we are leaving the little ice age period and going into a long term warm cycle. The issue with CO2 is backwards, he says, and that the evidence from core samples, etc, show that rises in CO2 follow warming trends.}}}
{{{Well let me give you one fact first. In the first 30 feet of the atmosphere, on the average, outward radiation from the Earth, which is what CO2 is supposed to affect, how much [of the reflected energy] is absorbed by water vapor? In the first 30 feet, 80 percent, okay? Eighty percent of the heat radiated back from the surface is absorbed in the first 30 feet by water vapor… And how much is absorbed by carbon dioxide? Eight hundredths of one percent. One one-thousandth as important as water vapor. You can go outside and spit and have the same effect as doubling carbon dioxide.}}}

{{{What is the contribution of anthropogenic carbon dioxide to global warming? This question has been the subject of many heated arguments, and a great deal of hysteria. In this article, we will consider a simple calculation, based on well-accepted facts, that shows that the expected global temperature increase caused by doubling atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is bounded by an upper limit of 1.4-2.7 degrees centigrade. This result contrasts with the results of the IPCC’s climate models, whose projections are shown to be unrealistically high.}}}
Um, yeah, science:
{{{Traditionally, greenhouse gas levels are presented as dimensionless numbers representing parts per billion (ppb) multiplied by a scaling factor (global warming potential or GWP) that allows their relative efficiency of producing global temperature increases to be compared. For carbon dioxide, this scaling factor is 1.0. The factors for methane and nitrous oxide are 21 and 310, respectively, while sulfur hexafluoride is 23,900 times more effective than carbon dioxide [5]. The GWP from carbon dioxide is primarily due to the position of its absorption bands in the critical longwave infrared region at 2, 3, 5, and 13-17 micrometers.}}}
MIT, no way!:
{{{Dangerous Warming Unlikely, MIT Climatologist Says, Let us begin by considering the fundamental question of whether the observed increases in CO2 are likely to be a source of alarm. We will see how the matter of consensus has been employed to mislead and misinform the public. Our concerns over global warming are based on models rather than data, and if these models are correct, then man has accounted for over 4 times the observed warming over the past century (even allowing for ocean delay) with some unknown process or processes having cancelled the difference. We assume, moreover, that these unknown processes will cease, in making predictions about future warming.}}}

{{{Throughout the past 420 millennia, comprising four interglacial periods, the Vostok record of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is imprinted with, and fully characterized by, the physics of the solubility of CO2 in water, along with the lag in the deep ocean circulation. Notwithstanding that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, atmospheric carbon dioxide has neither caused nor amplified global temperature increases. Increased carbon dioxide has been an effect of global warming, not a cause. Technically, carbon dioxide is a lagging proxy for ocean temperatures. When global temperature, and along with it, ocean temperature rises, the physics of solubility causes atmospheric CO2 to increase. If increases in carbon dioxide, or any other greenhouse gas, could have in turn raised global temperatures, the positive feedback would have been catastrophic. While the conditions for such a catastrophe were present in the Vostok record from natural causes, the runaway event did not occur. Carbon dioxide does not accumulate in the atmosphere. by Jeffrey A. Glassman, PhD}}}
Duh.
{{{New Zealand meteorologist, former professor of atmospheric science at University of Wyoming, and one of the founders of New Zealand Climate Science Coalition Augie Auer blasted the ‘myth’ of global warming recently at a meeting of a farming group, saying, in fact: “It is time to attack the myth of global warming,”
The core of his argument is water vapor, and its dominant role in making the world warm. As I have said and reported in previous blogs, water vapor makes up 95% of greenhouse gases. NINETY FIVE percent. To drill the point home, let’s put some light on the percentages thrown about by the greenhouse gasbags: The other greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen dioxide, and various others including CFCs, contributed only five per cent of the effect, carbon dioxide being by far the greatest contributor at 3.6 per cent. However, carbon dioxide as a result of man’s activities was only 3.2 per cent of that, hence only 0.12 per cent of the greenhouse gases in total. Human-related methane, nitrogen dioxide and CFCs etc made similarly minuscule contributions to the effect: 0.066, 0.047 and 0.046 per cent respectively.}}}

Midori:
I didn’t view Dennis’ comments as humorous, but Harry Reid WAS/IS definitely the JOKE.
You would have to “elevate” your vocabulary from the gutter to the executive suites to find Dennis “coherent” Midori. We all know that’s not going to happen any time soon if ever.
I could scroll up to tag some of your less than humorous comments, but it was too painful at first glance; why would I put myself through that torture a second time?
Now Getalife…..he’s funny!
