It’s easy to look good when your competition is so stupendously lame, like Hillary is.
And it helps to have a bunch of shallow dullards overlooking the fact that you aren’t even remotely qualified to lead the country.
Dullards like mikey are so easily aroused.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
Cleric rapped for ‘offensive’ video- A radical Australian cleric is drawing widespread condemnation for a series of videos in which he encourages children to become martyrs for Islam and ridicules Jews as pigs.- Urinal
Nice, Islamic Fascists can incite children to suicidal jihad against Jewish “pigs” and the Atlanta Urinal doesn’t find this to be “offensive.”
If you can’t understand the profound significance of putting “offensive” in scare quotes, like the AJC did, then you are a non American, period.
This “cleric” is only doing the same thing that Adolf Hitler did, so it’s good to know that if this were 1938, we now see what side you libs would have been on.
Just like you are on Al Qaeda’s team today.

Wow, LD’s charge is even more trumped-up than usual! Oooh, the AJC put the word “offensive”—a direct quote from the video’s critic—in quotation marks! Gosh, that must mean they actually approve of the video in question!

Hey, Shawny and LuckoDull, exoplain this one…
“Iran offered the US a package of concessions in 2003, but it was rejected, a senior former US official has told the BBC’s Newsnight programme.”
“But as soon as it got to the White House, and as soon as it got to the Vice-President’s office, the old mantra of ‘We don’t talk to evil’… reasserted itself.”
Maybe our president and his administration should stop being so hard-headed? I’m beginning to think they enjoy throwing gasoline on the fire.

LuckoDull,
Unlike Brainless, I see your point about the scare quotes.
I liked this segment from the AJC -
{{{Chile to promote casual weekdays. Chile’s Commission for Energy Efficiency is urging men to shun neckties so offices can ease up on air conditioning. Government workers in the socially conservative country where men typically dress formally for work will not be required to wear ties or jackets in summer, and officials hope the private sector will follow suit. According to the government, 215,000 air conditioners have been imported since 1997, and during the Southern Hemisphere summer —- from December to March —- they may account for up to 60 percent of electricity consumption in workplaces.}}}
Nancy Pelosi can use this lame idea^^ for her Global Warming Committee. She wants “energy independence” but won’t drill in ANWR, so they need a gimmick.
Can you imagine trying to convince people that if they wear lighter clothing they won’t need as much a/c? Maybe the government can give out tax breaks for solar-powered “personal fans” and organic deodorant.
Speaking of energy use, yesterday Mexicans were rioting because ethanol use has pushed corn prices so high they can’t afford their tortillas anymore (true story).

When I addressed my colleagues and the nation after receiving the Speaker’s gavel, I talked about the war and the need for a new direction to the applause of many Republicans…This isn’t just about Democrats; this is about the American people. They are watching to see what difference this election can make. The President ought to heed their message. We should not be obliged to an open-ended war, and as Speaker, I can assure you that the days of the blank check for President Bush in Iraq are over…
…Bettering the nation we love in ways both big and small are becoming reality. Democrats promised a New Direction for America, and in these first 100 hours we are all discovering that turning our promises into reality is much more than an obligation, it is our duty. Thanks to all of you for helping make it happen.
This is only the beginning.

I think telling children to blow themselves up in the middle of a bunch of Jewish “pigs” is offensive and I’m pretty sure that most of the normal people in the world would agree with me.
Matter of fact, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it is also sick in the head depravity worthy of the worst human filth.
So that leaves the perverts at the AJC and Brian Curtis to side up with the scumbags, soft stepping around their blatant hatred because of your spineless lack of courage.

So let me get this straight, LD: You actually WANT the AJC to pass editorial judgment on items it covers in its news reporting… as long as those judgments line up with yours?
In other words, you don’t want news: you want opinions, and specifically opinions that agree with yours. You find the video offensive (as do I), so you demand that all news agencies label it as such.
Well, you’re in luck! Just tune in to an exciting new cable channel called Faux News and you can rest in the security and comfort of never being confronted with pesky, judgment-free “journalism” ever again!

Hillary is anything but lame. She’s extremely intelligent. She’s thoughtful, she’s gracious, and she’s a person of impeccable character. Unfortunately, she’s probably not electable in a national election because so many voters are so filled with an irrational hate for her. Obama is probably not electable either, most likely because he’s not White and his name is not “American”. It’s a shame, because either of them would be a vast, vast, vast improvement over the worthless dingbat we have now.

Blackadder,
If the House wants to make the claim that they’ve actually done anything in the first 100 hours then they need to explain all the loopholes and exemptions they put in and convince the people, the Senate, and the President why they were good ideas,
So basically they have only taken the tiniest first step unless you’re just into symbolism.
Never mind, the fact that you think they’ve done something already tells us you care more for symbol than substance.

The earth is struggling to absorb carbon dioxide so a strong shift in environmental policy better be happening quickly for the sake of us all.
[New figures from dozens of measuring stations across the world reveal that concentrations of CO2, the main greenhouse gas, rose at record levels during 2006 - the fourth year in the last five to show a sharp increase. Experts are puzzled because the spike, which follows decades of more modest annual rises, does not appear to match the pattern of steady increases in human emissions.
At its most far reaching, the finding could indicate that global temperatures are making forests, soils and oceans less able to absorb carbon dioxide - a shift that would make it harder to tackle global warming. Such a shift would worsen even the gloomy predictions of the Stern Review which warned that we had little over a decade to tackle rising emissions to avoid the worst effects of climate change.](http://environment.guardian.co.uk/climatechange/story/0,,1994071,00.html)

O.K. ml, so you’re using “the parable” of Jesus walking on the water to say what about Obama?

Parables were lessons in morality, not to be taken literally, but to encourage people to think more “deeply” about the choices they make.

I read that same article about rioting in Mexico over tortillas. It also said that Mexicans stuff tortillas (their loaf bread) with cow eyeballs.
I did not know that!
Anyway, it reminded me of another article I read…
These environmentalists are not for the most part evil in their intentions. They are simply selfish people pursuing their own self-interest. Unfortunately, this self-interest requires them to stand squarely in the light of those less fortunate than themselves.
The pretence that they are trying to improve the environment in the Third World, rather than to hinder its development, is simply a device to seize moral high ground. It resembles the strictly comparable attempts of the old left (who were often the same people) to hinder the growth of the Third World by exporting to it an economic system which was known not to work, namely socialism.
It’s that ol’ “unintended consequences” thing again. Always apply the precautionary principle, always. It’s the “right” thing to do.

The bolding and italics were taken away because of abuse of the bolding. Maybe they couldn’t block one without blocking both.

So much for an impartial press. This is actually quite serious. If the White House Correspondents Association is so afraid of doing anything that criticizes the president, even in jest, then how does this affect their reporting? How can these people write fair, accurate and impartial stories about the increasing woes of this administration if they are so fearful of any speech that may upset this administration?
[Little said organizers of the event made it clear they don’t want a repeat of last year’s controversial appearance by Stephen Colbert, whose searing satire of President Bush and the White House press corps fell flat and apparently touched too many nerves.
“They got a lot of letters,” Little said Tuesday. “I won’t even mention the word ‘Iraq.’”
Little, who hasn’t been to the White House since he was a favorite of the Reagan administration, said he’ll stick with his usual schtick — the impersonations of the past six presidents.
“They don’t want anyone knocking the president. He’s really over the coals right now, and he’s worried about his legacy,” added Little, a longtime Las Vegas resident.](http://www.attytood.com/2007/01/dontmentionthe_war.html)
Poor embattled president. Gosh, someone might tell a joke about him. I mean, sure, he tortures people for a living, throw out habeas corpus, illegally spies on our phone conversations and the US mail, and oh yeah, killed 35,000 civilians in Iraq this past year alone - but having a joke told about him… now that crosses the line.
The White House Correspondents Association is pitiful. You call yourself journalists. And you wonder why we criticize you? You people are pathetic. Journalism isn’t about getting people to like you. It’s about reporting the news, the facts, the truth, and hopefully making the world a better place while so doing.

He took issue with comments by the US secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, that the Iraqi government was living on “borrowed time”.
“I believe that such statements give moral boosts to the terrorists and push them towards making an extra effort and making them believe that they have defeated the American administration, but I can tell you that they haven’t defeated the Iraqi government.”

I wouldn’t normally waste an instant on an inferior like you, but…Intelligent words from Bomber Pilot. Surely the sign of an Officer and A Gentleman. Flying paper planes in the 3rd grade. It’s so bad it’s beautiful. There are certainly several of us here who served in the military. Some in combat, some in extended combat. You’re not one of them. With a couple of exceptions no one ever speaks of it. This will be my first exception. There are other locations, serious locations, available for those who care to discuss real military experiences. This blog, filled with jealous neocons, is no such place. Serving in the military is an experience, no more, no less. A chunk of time. Perhaps good, perhaps bad. It provides one with no special credibility re any subject, except one served and another did not. Some of the best people I ever met were in the military. Some of the worst people I ever met were in the military. Most vets gag daily at the use of the word “hero.”
Then we have imposters like you. A never-served little pretender trying to create an image for himself. We’ve had other phony military guys on this blog who were humiliated right off. Semper Fi is an example. He fled, then resurfaced under a different name. Pitiful really.
Which brings us to you, Bomber Pilot. (A term which hasn’t beed used in decades. Like “socialist.” You must have stumbled into a 1950’s William Buckley book.) Since you have taken it upon yourself to describe yourself as a great heroic figure, it shouldn’t be hard for you to supply the rest of us with your significant duty stations, aircraft flown, MOS, DD214, so much more data. I can check it out on the archives. Or with a Brig General classmate who has flown B-52’s for 20 years. He’ll provide more info about you than you know about yourself. THIS SHOULD DELIGHT OPPONENTS OF BOTH FOX NEWS AND THE AJC.
Over the weekend, the National Conference for Media Reform was held in Memphis, TN, with a number of notable speakers on hand for the event. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) made an surprise appearance at the convention to announce that he would be heading up a new House subcommittee which will focus on issues surrounding the Federal Communications Commission.
The Presidential candidate said that the committee would be holding “hearings to push media reform right at the center of Washington.” The Domestic Policy Subcommittee of the House Government Reform Committee was to be officially announced this week in Washington, D.C., but Kucinich opted to make the news public early.
In addition to media ownership, the committee is expected to focus its attention on issues such as net neutrality and major telecommunications mergers. Also in consideration is the “Fairness Doctrine,” which required broadcasters to present controversial topics in a fair and honest manner. It was enforced until it was eliminated in 1987.
Kucinich said in his speech that “We know the media has become the servant of a very narrow corporate agenda” and added “we are now in a position to move a progressive agenda to where it is visible.”

You got your work done in 42 hours. Congrats! Bet you didn’t count on Sen Harry Reid being such a supporter, did you? You wanted all earmarks to have the sponsor’s name attached. Harry wanted, oh, five percent and held up the legislation. Then a Republican senator challenged that and backed your version (my head’s spinning already). A few Democrats, including Russ Feingold (closet neocon), Kerry (uber neocon) and Obama (dunno what he is, yet) joined the Republicans and overturned Harry’s objections. Boy, did Harry let you have it on the Senate floor.
Then just last night the wicked Republicans offered an amendment - give the Pres. power to cut out the most egregious earmarks (and I thought you were going to cut them yourself? Silly me). Then I saw Harry denouncing the Republicans for stalling and trying to kill earmark reform. Who’s he been taking spin lessons from - the White House?
Anyhow, now that you’ve got all your work done, what’s next? Maybe you could send another letter to the Pres? Or are you pretty much going to support the President’s Iraq policy before the escalation?
BTW - will you please let your farmworkers unionize? And not fire them? Please?

You’re really in luck, Bomber Pilot. I’ve been a pilot for very many years. Surely you would wish to engage in a conversation with a fellow pilot, right? Especially the more technical aspects of flight itself, to say nothing of the specifics of the use and results of instrumentation, the purpose of each instrument, how it helps you fly your bomber, and so forth. Pilots love to talk to each other. What have you to lose - except your credibility. What kind of navigational problems did you and your Bomber run into over there in Kosovo? Or was it all just another day in The Wild Blue Yonder? Do tell. Makes my heart pump (urine).
Oh, and just like heroic you, Bomber Pilot, I too volunteered. They’d have never called my number. 54 months, the last 6 months “At the pleasure of the secretary of defense.” 30 uninterrupted months overseas. No visits stateside or elsewhere. Unlike you, Bomber Pilot. (I’m making airplane noises as I think of you).
So do educate us about your military experiences, prowess, history. Both vets and non-vets alike here wait with baited breath. You brought it up, Bomber Pilot. There can be no excuse for your refusal to engage in this most pleasant of invitations, Bomber Pilot. Unless you’re just another little neocon imposter of the Wrong Generation (s), with all The Wrong Stuff.

Well now, Buy Danish, what would cause you to inject your cockroach mind into such things as Bomber Pilot’s self-humiliation? I have grown weary of you continuously sending me photos of other peoples’ genitalia, pretending it’s your own. I am tempted to report you to “To Catch A Predator.” Can’t you just see it now?
Slovenly BD enters the house. Little girl says: “Hi there! I just baked some cookies. Have a cookie and sit down. I’ll be with you in a minute.
“And I just made some lemonade. Pour yourself a glass, it’s soooo good! I’ll be right there, just slipping into something comfortable.”
BD, in his best grammatical effort, says, “Duhh.”
Host Chris Hansen and cameramen are viewing from a back room. Hansen says, “Holy Schmidt! Did you see the animalistic freak that just slithered in the door? You can pick up the stench from back here. I don’t wanna touch something like that! Whatta we gonna do??” Camermen: “Dunno. But for protection let’s run out into the yard where all those tough, brave cops are waiting with guns drawn.”
Everyone departs. They don’t want to get themselves filthy nor dirty the patrol car. Tune in again next week.

Paul, If I’m not mistaken the Republicans stalled the ethics bill because the Democrats wouldn’t allow the line item veto power for Bush. So it isn’t as simple as “Republicans for stalling and trying to kill earmark reform”. It was to stop bush from picking and choosing items in any particular bill. Not just earmark reform. I wonder why the line item veto is so important now and not the last 12 years? Oh yeah - then Dems control Congress.

That’s kinda what I thought. I’d recorded the news broadcasts from the last couple of days - I generally get up quite early and scan through them. When I got to the Senate ethics reform stories I had to review them several times - it seemed as if I was hearing reports on two different stories - much as if one were looking at a cheetah under a microscope and each day announcing “this is what I see now.”
But this is what I gleaned. Senate hasn’t been eager to embrace much of the “reforms” without going through their traditional hearings/examinations/lets-see-what-our-contributors-want process. Ethics reform went up - plenty of loopholes but much better than the current mess - Reid kept it bottled up - Republican senator offered “let’s vote on the House version” - Reid opposed - Kerry, Obama and Feingold (author of a tough Senate version) joined Webb and another newbie and a big Republican block and accepted it. Republicans, not willing to let well enough alone (or the cynical view - they voted to support it before they maneuvered to kill it) - offered the veto option (line item veto struck down by the Supreme Court 12 years ago - this is “different”) and then Reid took to the floor and castigated the Republicans for stalling earmark reform. The day before he castigated Pelosi and said he had a lot of problems with Pelosi’s legislation.
I’m afraid the Congress has just shown it can play musical chairs.

In more direct terms: Russ Feingold is about as liberal a Democrat as one can find. Kerry’s right in there - Obama - open to debate. But the point is, they joined with a Republican proposal to override their own Majority Leader to pass legislation they thought was in the best interest of the country.

The most interesting thing about the “Obama unqualified” argument from Republicans (and, denial of it from Democrats) is his similarity (in symbol, not substance, this man is actually intelligent) to W 8 years ago.
To argue that Obama has no foreign policy experience (after 2+ years in the senate, 4 when the election occurs) while Bush (irrelevant Texas governor) had some is idiotic.
To mock his use of cocaine, etc as a teenager/college student (which he has been open about) while ignoring W’s (hidden and denied) usage is just plain silly.
To say that he is inexperienced and yet pretend W didn’t run several oil companies into the ground is moronic.
Wait - idiotic, silly, and moronic - that describes someone.. W!!! No wonder you guys love him - you have so much in common!!!
Yes, Obama does not have the experience that several of the other candidates have, but he has a few things going for him that even W didn’t - intelligence, thoughtfulness, and a CURIOUS mind - he seems to want to learn, to want to fix things, to want to understand how things work, and why… The reason we’re in the mess we’re in now is because we elected a bunch of dinosaurs who are so rigid and certain in their beliefs, there is no room for change or discussion.
Let’s elect some one that’s willing to think this time. Not necessarily Obama, but someone willing to at least think..
And a question to the W lovers - does it not bother you that he seems to lack curiosity? I think one of the greatest signs of an intelligent leader and person is the desire to know more and understand how things around you work - W seems to prefer bed time and making Christmas movies with his dog…

First paragraph started pretty good, then went downhill fast.
Similarity of Bush to Obama? Well, many had hopes for Bush (I spoke yesterday with a very consertive Republican early Bush supporter who is seriously considering Obama). He was known as a “great conciliator/compromiser” in Texas - who had some pretty tough Democrats in the Legislature. He pushed his staff for renewable energy - a very successful wind power program. His “now child left behind” - while, as is true of many Federal programs - helped correct some serious deficiencies in the state’s educational system.
My friend, as is true with many conservative Republicans, look at Bush and ask, “What happened?”
But then you make the snide comments (his home state is “irrelevant” - spoken like a true northeasterner). Bush wouldn’t have much to do with irrelevant personal historical issues - which many Americans appreciated (ever had an alcoholic/drug abuser/unwed daughter/prison-bound son? No? Just wait). When Obama maneuvers to make the drug use past a nonissue, and the Republicans keep harping on it, well, to be consistent you’ll have to repeat your comments but insert “Obama” for “Bush.” And that curiousity charge - more gullilble acceptance of spinmeister’s tactics.
So, a number of people look at Obama and say “Yup, he’s not Hillary. Or Kerry. Or Edwards. I’m in.” Or, “so he doesn’t have a track record. Big deal. Bush had a track record. So did Clinton (“move to the middle when the polls require it”). What difference does a track record make?”

You’re embarassing yourself. By repeating mindless blather (no original thoughts?) to denigrate Pres B - such as “putting an admiral in charge of ground forces” - you show you have no concept of “jointness” - unified command structure - integrated warfighting - realities. Requirments passed by Congress years ago mandate service in a “joint” posting to even be eligible for general officer status. You also demonstrate you are woefully ignorant of the process within DoD for selecting unified commanders.
