I get it. The previous president gets a pass on all of his actions as soon as his eight year term is over but the current president gets blamed for hurricanes, airplane accidents and all sorts of nonsense that he has absolutely nothing to do with.

It’s almost like Ruth Bader Ginsburg is still on the Supreme Court, or something, how dare these Republicans criticize the effects of Clinton’s policies when he never did anything to begin with, right?

Is that what the pinko nation is trying to say, Clinton was the Oval Office carpet stainer and that’s it?

Georgie Girl: Look, I told you if you want to run with the big dogs that mommy was going to have to get you out of bed a little earlier than 7:58.

Well, if we’re going to get blamed for it anyway:

Judicial Watch, Inc. v. Department of Justice- In the last day of his presidency, Bill Clinton granted 140 pardons and commuted 36 sentences (a scandal that came to be known as Pardongate), many of them to convicted felons who had paid large fees to Clinton associates. Like many of Clinton’s actions, these pardons raised ethical concerns and added to the controversies surrounding the Clinton Presidency and Hillary Clinton’s senate campaign.

Will Hillary resign in light of these new allegations?

And:

The fact that someone whose responsibilities included the security of the nation, would remove classified documents (whether they be copies or originals) without permission, on several occasions, is inexcusable. When a former National Security Advisor has such disregard for the integrity of documents and the rules and laws pertaining to their treatment, what can be said for his regard for the security of the nation and the safety those rules applying to classified documents protects?-TownHall

What is most missing from the left in America is an element of grace—of civic grace, democratic grace, the kind that assumes disagreements are part of the fabric, but we can make the fabric hold together. The Democratic Party hasn’t had enough of this kind of thing since Bobby Kennedy died. What also seems missing is the courage to ask a question. Conservatives these days are asking themselves very many questions, but I wonder if the left could tolerate asking itself even a few. Such as: Why are we producing so many adherents who defy the old liberal virtues of free and open inquiry, free and open speech? Why are we producing so many bullies? And dim dullard ones, at that.-PeggyNoonanOpinionJournal

Second, the president not only refused — “for about the fifth time” — to acknowledge that invading Iraq was a mistake. He got right back in their faces and affirmed, defiantly, that it was the right thing to do — and said he couldn’t wait until we could have an actual debate on this subject. He was daring Democrats to defend the Saddam regime, what with its use of WMD, its systematic torture and its burying alive of its own people — not to mention its support of terrorists.-TownHall

Americans know instinctively what’s at stake. “Look, the American people want to know, can we win — that’s what they want to know — and do we have a plan to win,” the president said. Administration critics, he added, fall into several categories. “There are some who say, get out, it’s not worth it. And those some of the voices, by the way, in the Democrat[ic] Party. Certainly not all Democrats, but some of the loud voices in the party say, get out,” the president said. “There have been some votes on the floor of the Senate and the House that make it abundantly clear we just have a different view of the world.”-WashingtonTimes

This is how you keep Kim Jong Il from proliferating. Make him understand that his survival would be hostage to the actions of whatever terror group he sold his weapons to. Any terrorist detonation would be assumed to have his address on it. The United States would then return postage. Automaticity of this kind concentrates the mind.-TownHall

“George, have you seen Luckovich’s cartoon today?”

“First Lady, by now you should know that I don’t cotton to anti-patriotic pink-liberal mush disguised as pen and ink cartoons. Besides Alberto tells me that Luckovich did not vote for me; at least that is what his secret poop sheet says”

“You mean you still collecting private information on our fellow citizens?”

“There is nothing that can keep Luckovich from making a nucular weapon in his ranch in Lake Lanier, First Lady. You ought to know that!”

“And where is Clinton come into all this?”

“Not only Clinton but also Gore who invented the Internet. From making internets to making nucular weapons is just a small step for mankind!”

Clinton took a deficit that Ronnie and Bush’s daddy spent 12 years making and turned it into a surplus. Where are we now after six years of Bushie Jr? We’re enjoying the highest deficit in history!

Impeach Chimpy…you know neocons credit the surplus on the Republican controlled congress…I just don’t know what happened because they control the congress now and we are in a deficit…or it could be as one Conservative Radio Host told me, it was a “projected surplus” so it was not real money…and my response to him “Is it better to have a projected surplus or deficit?”..he politely hung up on me…neocons never let facts get in the way of twisting the truth. To comment on the cartoon, it is good but inaccurate. Bush has never criticized Clinton…he lets Faux News, and the other talking heads do that for him…that way he keeps his hands clean…

Poor, poor Randy, when has bush admitted to mistakes…if he has, it has taken him 6 years to do so. I know you may not recall the 2004 Debates when a woman asked Bush what mistakes he had made and he could not even answer the question…that let’s you know something is wrong with him there. Most people can name at least one mistake that they have made on their job within the last month, and he could not name one that he had committed within 4 years?!?! Well, I suppose this cartoon shows Mr. Luckovich occasionally reads through this forum for ideas. But to think the back and forths here reflect views across America is, I think a mistake. So the cartoon has resonance with not as many folks as one would hope.

Much of what I read here reminds me of last night’s interview with Scott Ritter on Bill O’Reilly’s show (now, there’s a jump-off for more fingerpointing). Subject was the Iran situation. O’Reilly asked a question, Ritter gave a quick summary of events from 1980 onward, O’Reilly responded with “that’s history, doesn’t help solve the problem now” and Ritter responded “Exactly” then went on with some solutions. It’s easy to rehash a version of history, challenging to say “this is what should be done from here on out.”

Oh, for all those who accuse O’Reilly of being a right-wing schill for Bush: Ritter was a WMD inspector in Iraq, extreme critic of the march toward war, high profile, met rhetoric with facts - then got arrested for - what- having sexual chatroom conversations with a 16-year old girl (really an undercover sting). His credibility was shot, no one would book him. Numerous allegations came out he was the target of political “dirty tricks” (no, I am not a conspiracy theorist). The case was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal.

Point - O’Reilly never brought it up - a strange tactic for someone who’s supposedly a right-winger - tactics are to discredit the messenger and ignore the message. Instead, O’Reilly questioned him on his views of Iran (he’d just returned from a trip).

Just ask him! Or better yet, ask his fawning worshippers here. They’ll tell you: Bush has NEVER screwed up and never will. He’s an unblemished paragon, and everything he does is Right and Good. He can walk on water and heal the sick with a touch. Anything bad that happens when Bush is around must be Clinton’s fault. Or the media’s. Or terrorists. Or somebody’s. ANYBODY but Bush.

After all, why should he take responsibility for the consequences of his administration’s actions? It’s not like he’s in charge or anything.

Ok, so if the previous administration is responsible for all of the bad things that happen and none of the good things that happen, then exactly how did Bush the Elder get so much credit for the economic turnaround under Clinton in the mid-nineties? I loved that argument then - if it were true, the republicans should build a monument to Jimmy Carter for making Reagan look good. If we have a democratic president who manages to end the Iraq war during their administration, these same wingnuts will claim that Bush was responsible for ending it.

I’d like to meet one rational person who thinks this administration has this country on the right track. I live in the Republican Disney World of North Fulton, and I can’t even find anyone there who thinks Bush has half a brain. That idiot disgusts me, and I’m ashamed we as a country were gullible enough to vote him in twice. Midori - not sure I understand the metaphor, unless you mean closet as in pantry? My point was, so many interviews begin with the host asking the guest “now about this embarassing incident in your life - we’ll get to your book later.” If O’Reilly’s purpose was to build up the Bush Administration, he could have hit Ritter with this incident in an attempt to damage his credibility. Instead, he kept his questions on topic - the Iran situation. They disagreed, but views were given.

gadem, Is Bush responsible for your short memory too?

MalloryaGaC, Just recently General Casey said that he didn’t plan to ask for more troops and wasn’t sure if more American troops would lessen the violence in Iraq over the long term. Do you want a politically run war like Vietnam, or do you want a war where the politicians listen to the military?

Right now, the troops aren’t the primary target. Iraqis don’t want to be an occupied country. More troops would give that impression and put them at greater risk.

Efforts in Iraq are diplomatic & military. Diplomatic relations with the government & military support for the government.

The WH is looking to make changes in their Iraq policy.

Democrat Values Voters and Finchie,

Before I go, I just had to post this for you all. This is from one of your most loyal “fringe” voting blocs - “Educators”. How many kids got an “A” do you think?:

{{Consider instruction given to children as young as 12 at a March 2000 conference sponsored by – now get this – the Massachusetts Department of Education. (At least Foley wasn’t paid to come on to kids…)}}

The conference was secretly taped. Here’s one exchange that took place between a student and an instructor:

((Educator: “What orifices are we talking about?”

(Student hesitates)

Educator: “Don’t be shy, honey; you can do it.”

Student: “Your mouth.”

Educator: “Okay.”

Student: “Your a*.”

Educator: “There you go.”

Student: “Your p***. That kind of place.”}}

There is a new danger with Bush as Prez. Bush may try to buy ballots with bullets, that is, Bush may start acting like Caeser, who became emperor through conquests: starting wars just to win support at home.

Bush might get us entangled into a lose-lose, no way out, quagmire-style, Mexican-standoffish pyrrhic defeat.

He will be emboldened to do so by the pops in the polls he gets everytime he talks about national security. He may tweek the wrong nose, and use the word “crusade” again, or something equally diplomatically numbskulled.

We are in so much danger now, with the Bush loose cannon acting from an ideologically-based looser canon: He’s born again.

Lets see, when is W’s “born on” date? I know! It’s the very moment he realized how many votes he could get if he made the christian right HIS constituency. They have that moment on tape, folks, at a fund-raiser in Texas, when he ran for governor.

You can see the religious stupor immersed on his face as he is baptised in the dogma of pious polling and ballot benediction.

We are in trouble, my fellow americans, and it could be that we are in the last throes of a country. Our grand democratic experiment scuttled by a sell-out scoundrel who takes his refuge in religion and patriotism.

Understand the facts: Clinton did nothing to defend the US from terrorism during his adminstration. He even made it so the CIA and FBI couldn’t even trade info and talk to one another.

He signed a bad deal with the N. Koreans that allowed them to begin to acquire the know-how to be where they are today.

With the many attacks on American interests overseas during his time, he did nothing! Ok, so he bombed one aspirin factory….wow! I’m so impressed.

Face it, he is and was a loser who was a disgusting guy, who was “pole” driven in more ways than one.

And now he is in desparate search of any legitimate “legacy” that can be manufactured by his apologists. And the current Dems are so tied to him that they’ll do anything to help.

Remember the very afternoon the articles of impeachment were brought against him? The Dems rushed to the White House to stand by “their man.” How many of them do you think were disgusted at having to stand there defending this guy? That was the day the Dems died politically. If Al Gore had had the political gonads to call for Slick Willie’s resignation, he’d be in HIS second term now and W would be only a former governor of Texas.

I found his talking points of great interest. In a nutshell he warned Americans that if democRATS took control of congree the hated Nancy Pelosi would enforce SAN FRANCISCO style values on America. (I for one, did not know the speaker had so much power!)

He then frightened me with clips of homos in strange dress dancing in the street.

He lamented that 43% of Americans didn’t know who she was and the tsunami of cultural damage she will release upon all Americans. I’m glad he brought this to my attention.

I will now continue my support for the GOP even amidst bad foreign policy decisions, scandal, fiscal irresponsibility, etc. Just to ensure Nancy Pelosi does not become speaker of the house!

Hi Everybody!: My mommy and daddy were idiot liberals voting straight democrat every election and they sent me to public school so I would become an idiot just like them.

I came to visit this blog because I thought Luckovich would be an idiot like me and I could trade anti American talking points and masterbate with my fellow traitors and just be happy reveling in our gay bashing and Al Qaeda appeasement.

But I never expected there to be so many different opinions, especially those that say America is good and people should take responsibility for their own lives. What are these people talking about, America is good?

I don’t like hearing these things.

But remember, I am a jack leg moron, a mouth drooling heathen, I blame everybody else for my problems and I want to raise your taxes so that the government is fat enough for me to sue over some stupid reason like global warming so that I can live off of your money.

I have to make these Conservatives stop with their opinions, you don’t need to be hearing about responsibility, but I’m too stupid to debate them, plus raising taxes is not a good argument and it costs us lots of votes!!

So what I have to do is jack their names, like Andy, and spread ignorance, which I know well, so that it confuses the other idiots like me.

If that doesn’t work then I’ll lie to you by saying the Conservatives links are infected and don’t open them.

It’s all I can do because I’m a hollow empty waste of a human being with no morals and no soul except for what the government provides me.

So you can believe me or you can believe the America is good crowd.

O’reilly’s next guest (last night) confirmed what O’reilly had always suspected - A house led by democRATS will tie our President’s hand and WEAKEN America. They will try to persecute him, thus distracting him from real security issues.

Bill didn’t give his opinion but he seemed to think the President having his hands tied at this critical juncture in National security was not good.

You see, even if we are not pleased with the GOP electing democrats that will try to impeach and harass the President, will make us less safe.

Much like the hated Clinton’s impeachment (which led to the rise of the taliban and 9/11).

Yet I’m not sure I wholeheartedly agree with this - because that would logically mean the GOP was responsible for weakening America in the late 90’s, thus distracting and harassing BJ Clinton from doing his job and dismiss the claim Clinton failed America (which he did).

President Bush heads to Vietnam next month, making a question about that upcoming trip a must-ask when former Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes spoke at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday evening.

It was during the 2004 campaign that Barnes acknowledged that as speaker of the Texas House he had found a National Guard slot for young George W. Bush, then the son of a Houston congressman, during the Vietnam War. Barnes said he acted at the behest of a Bush family friend.

Any advice for Bush as he prepares for his first-ever trip to Vietnam long after the Guard stint that kept him out of the war?

“It’s a lot safer than it was when he didn’t go the first time,” Barnes quipped.

Great response, Huge. Your intellect is truly dazzling! LOL

Why don’t you enlighten us all with the offensive response that your BJ in Chief did in response to the following terrorist acts that targeted the US on his watch:

February 1993: Muslim extremists set off a bomb in the basement of the World Trade Center, killing six and wounding more than 1,000.

Spring 1993: Muslim extremists plot to blow up the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the U.N. complex, and the FBI’s lower Manhattan headquarters.

November 1995: Muslim extremists explode a car bomb at U.S. military headquarters in Saudi Arabia, killing five U.S. military servicemen.

June 1996: Muslim extremists explode a truck bomb outside the Khobar Towers military complex, killing 19 American servicemen and injuring hundreds.

August 1998: Muslim extremists blow up the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 and injuring thousands.

October 2000: Muslim extremists blow up the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole, killing 17 U.S. sailors.

The Hummer in Chief did nothing! The Democratic party has been against every major weapons system in the last generation that has attempted to strengthen the US. It’s like Zell said when talking about Kerry, “what are we going to use to defend ourselves, spitballs?” Yall’s track record is almost criminally laughable. Botton line is the Dems are cowards and appeasers. It’s a shame that so many of our fellow Americans actually agree with your party’s politics. “Spring 1993: Muslim extremists plot to blow up the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the U.N. complex, and the FBI’s lower Manhattan headquarters.”

Plot foiled - thanks President Clinton.

“November 1995: Muslim extremists explode a car bomb at U.S. military headquarters in Saudi Arabia, killing five U.S. military servicemen.”

And the Saudis are still Bush’s bestest friends.

“August 1998: Muslim extremists blow up the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 and injuring thousands.”

Clinton responds by attacking Osama’s training grounds in Afghanistan and a factory that intelligence said was being used to create explosives.

“October 2000: Muslim extremists blow up the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole, killing 17 U.S. sailors.”

Clinton didn’t respond largely because he would be out of office soon so he expected the next president to respond. Bush didn’t bother.

There will very likely be a lame duck session of congress following the November elections. Why in God’s name should Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH), an admitted criminal, be permitted to attend that session, vote during that session? The man just admitted to accepting bribes to influence his votes, and we’re going to let him vote some more? That’s a bit like giving Mark Foley a few more pages for his retirement.

"Despite his guilty pleas, Ney did not resign his seat in Congress. His lawyer, Mark Touhey, told the judge he would do so before sentencing on Jan. 19. Under the Constitution, he'll be gone before then. His term expires when the new Congress is sworn in at noon on Jan. 3."

He is now an admitted criminal.

What is he doing staying in the Republican Congress? Being permitted to vote AGAIN?

I’ll tell you why. Because the Republicans are afraid they may lose control of the congress and they’d rather leave in power a criminal, who takes bribes to influence his votes, than risk losing the seat.

So politics trumps ethics and morality and good government in the Republican party.

I’ll bet the Mark Foley child sex predator cover-up is starting to make a whole lot more sense right about now.

Sixteen Afghans and one Iranian arrived in Afghanistan after being released from the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, an Afghan official said.

The Afghans appeared at a news conference alongside Sibghatullah Mojaddidi, head of Afghanistan’s reconciliation commission, which assists with the release of detainees from Guantanamo and the U.S. prison at the Bagram military base north of Kabul, the Afghan capital.

Mojaddidi said the freed detainees had served as long as four years and that most were not guilty. The released Iranian prisoner was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, he said.

Bush treason did 9-11. Read PhD Griffin’s “The New Pearl Harbor,” or watch “Loose Change 2.”

Bush’s father helped assassinate JFK six weeks after President Kennedy ordered the military’s withdrawal from Vietnam (NSAM 263).

Bush’s Knight of Malta grandfather financed Hitler and the Nazi Party after the Roman Catholic Council of German Bishops at Fulda approved voting for the Nazi Party. Google “Prescott Thyssen Auschwitz”

Bush’s have been Rockefeller lieutenants since Standard Oil was built on “murder and arson” in 1870’s Cleveland.

Bush’s flying lessons in a jet airplane in a Vietnam-free Air National Guard unit while 58,000 noble Americans were sent to die for the pope in Vietnam by his father’s hypocrisy in Congress do not constitute honorable service in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Possible History Of The Future:

Nuke detonated on US soil, believed to be Korean in origin.

Kim Jong aquired his Nuclear capability after restarting the PyongYang reactor and moving the fuel rods to their processing facility. Meanwhile Bush looks the other way as the USA has forces bogged down in Iraq fighting a “War on Terrorism”. History shows that the reason for that war was initially an attack on Iraq for having Weapons of Mass Destruction. Later intel reports that these Weapons did not exist, So Bush strategist spin the Wars reasoning to idealisms of “Liberation” and a “War against Terror” rather than having specific real targets or real reasons for the invasion. Many Iraqi’s were rounded up in mass sweeps, and tried as terrorist in military tribunals. Some were found to be terrorist but later many were found innocent as just being caught up in defense of their country. Many international laws were found to have been broken by the USA in holding these people hostage and torturing some.

Meanwhile much of the Congress itself was mired down with scandals, with much of it revolving around lobbyist Jack Abramof and the Casinos industry. Abramof ratted out many corrupt congressmen both Democrat and republican that had sold their office and votes for favors and money.

The culminations of the Bush Presidency is considered marred by scandal, an unjustified war, violations of the Geneva Conventions, alienation of friendly countries, and ignoring world events that eventually lead to Rogue States like the now “Unified Korean Continent” aquiring nuclear weapons.

And in the weather today we have a new cold front caused by greenhouse gasses melting the ice caps and distributing mass cold waves to normally warm areas of the world —

and today in sports —

Cheers —-

londonguy,

To answer your question asking if Republicans are allowed to be educated, I must tell you that no formal education is necessary if one’s only goal in life is to become a sociopolitical prostitute. Books have been written and films made that depict mindless automatons who follow the will of a fascist state. All decisions are made for them…when to eat, when to sleep, when to work, when to procreate, when to die…

Then there are the rest of us who cherish freedom, individualism, compassion for others, creativity, knowledge, and the things that make us different from one another…

Lets try a writing assignment for the GOP crowd. Please complete this sentence;

North Korea’s recent nuclear weapons test was a success for the Bush administration because…..

My personal opinion is …….it shifted the proverbial (you know what) to somebody else’s plate. China, Japan, Russia & S. Korea. The thing is, they all have good reasons to react aggressively, but they’re limiting their response. Diplomacy or lack of concern?

South Korea is more inclined to think there may be something more along the lines of a conventional war between them and N.Korea.

S.Korea is angrier than the others. I would be too. The “Little Glow Worm’s” been lying about his golfing abilities.

North Korea also has golf clubs in cities including Pyongyang — where, according to the communist state’s official media, leader Kim Jong-Il scored 11 holes-in-one in his first attempt at golf.

Maybe he lied about the “nuclear” in his test-icles too. He’s claiming to have contained the fallout from his test-icles.

I thought I saw a big “poof” after the nuclear test-icles went off. Is Kim a big poof?

Only time will tell. Atmospheric test-icles are forthcoming.

I hope I passed your fill-in-the-blank test.

On eight votes that supported veterans:

Every Democrat had at least a 50%, rating. 115 Democrats had a 100% rating, 49 Dems had an 88% rating and 29 Dems had a 75% rating. Republicans, on the other hand, everyone of which has backed Bush to the hilt on this war, voted against vets most of the time: Only 5 Republicans rated over 50%. One hundred and seventy rated only 25% - and two rate a zero.

So you think chanting “stay the course” over 3 years with a totally discreditited policy is more productive? I doubt that.

Meanwhile let those who put themselves in harm’s way eveyday to try to kill the the waste products who threaten us do their job.

So why aren’t YOU over there putting yourself in harms way?

Maybe you’re just waiting for the right assignment? One that allows you to go to Baghdad and still retain your chickenhawk ethics?

“Imperial Life in the Emerald City” draws a vividly detailed portrait of Baghdad’s so-called Green Zone that becomes a metaphor for the administration’s larger failings in Iraq. An insular, often blinkered approach to decision making; a reluctance to listen to experts; Pollyannaish expectations leading to inadequate allocations of resources and staff; a willful ignorance of Iraqi culture and history; and an obliviousness to realities on the ground: all are on unfortunate display in the Emerald City.

And that’s on a GOOD day. Meanwhile, you’ll have all the Bud and pork ribs you want. Nevermind those civilians. You know, the Iraqis we’re force feeding “democracy”. They’re all waste products anyway, right?

The author concludes that the last thing the Iraqis needed — or wanted — was a bunch of Americans trying to dictate the shape of the country’s future from within the walls of a gated community known as the Emerald City.

“Being new to this country I want to ask a dumb question. After reading these blogs it appears that Republicans have little grasp of history, geography and politics. Views are taken pre-formed and carefully packaged so no thought is required and no questions are allowed. Are Republicans not allowed to be educated in the USA?”

If I may surmise, you’ve been in America long enough to have dropped numerous British-isms. Else you are really an American posing as a Brit for whatever reason (it’d be more effective in person - Americans are quite taken with accents).

I’d imagine a Brit would have said “silly” rather than “dumb.” The construct would have been “little grasp of your history” rather than “little grasp of history,” as a newly-arrived Brit would distinguish not all history is American history. Same with the “no thought is required and no questions are allowed” constuct. A rather difficult shift from a personal reference to a passive-voice reference to external authority. Again, not typically British. The last sentence almost fits the typically-used rhetorical style, but not quite. “To be” is much more American, the location reference would likely have been “America”, not “USA” and the ending to the rhetorical question would have been “are they?”

Well, welcome to the forum. London, Calif or London, Arkansas guy.

Getalife,

I have been all over the world since 1985 trying to combat those who’d harm us. Western Europe (Red Army Faction, Baider Meinhof), Eastern Europe (Iron Curtain-Eastern Bloc), Mid East (Al Quaida and others too numerous to list here)and presently Colombia. (FARC, Narcos, para-militaries)

As I posted a few blogs up the list, I had colleagues killed in Pan Am 103. These incidents have had a profound impact on how I personally view our current situation.

We can all take jabs at each other on here in semi-humorous and clever and funny ways, but the radicals’ desire to harm us in unmistaken. I prefer the direct action approach of getting them before they get us and punishing them harshly after they strike us. And in my way of thinking that means militarily. Other rational folks, like many who post on here, have other ideas and that’s fine.

So, that’s Producer’s mindset in a nutshell!

I haven’t read Foreign Affairs by Paul Pillar, but I’ve read the other two. I hope you realize Bruce Bartlett is advocating for much stronger fiscally conservative values in his book, the last thing he wants is a bunch of liberals taking over.

Ron Suskind is hardly a conservative and was basically just a collaborative writer for a disgruntled Treasury Secretary that thought he should have been top dog on all the administration’s effort. His book seemed to have very little point to it and offered nothing but a rear looking view of problems with no forward looking solutions.

I’m not sure what book you say you are going to read, but if it’s either of the ones I linked at my site you will find them much more informative than Paul O’neil’s memoirs.

Producer (if you are truly who you say you are and not one of Andy’s Clones that litter this blog daily)

I congratulate you and those that serve our country. You guys are the ones that deserve this countries gratitude. I express my gratitude for your sacrifice to be away from family and friends so long and perhaps in harms way.

I cannot respect a President though that uses his office the way this President has, and places our military in harms way callously without the utmost support and supplies to succeed. The lack of troops in mubers in Iraq was pitiful. They expected you to do an impossible job there without some vital materials and resources while the administration’s buddys (such as Haliburton, and Bechtel) got no-bid contracts which they mis-used to bilk the american taxpayers for personal gain. Many of these contracts also mis-using funds meant to supply you the soldier in the field.

I also fear that when you return from Iraq, Afghanistan, or where ever you are, that the support at home will be pitiful as well. This administration and Congress has hamstrung the veterans programs at home including medical services, and other programs to make sure you are covered while away.

I point out that many of the people(troops) with you “over there” are of many american idealisms, and philosopys. There are Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Christians, Pagans, Jewish, Muslems, etc. all serving over there under the American flag.

I doubt that you will see the country against you like the veterans returning from Vietnam. Instead I think you will find most all americans respect you for the duty you have done in our name.

But you cannot expect every american here to respect this administration, as their policys have NOT made the world a safer place for our children nor yours.

Thomas,

I began my efforts during Reagan’s second term. From what I’ve seen, strong military action and responses are all that terrorists respect and respond to. When we bombed Kadafi in 86, there was a temporary lessening in his efforts. And for whatever reason, whether it be damn fool luck or success in our military responses, the US hasn’t been hit domestically again since 9/11.

I don’t think that negociations or diplomacy will work with those who wish us eradicated from the face of the earth.

Are all Republican presidents right and all Dems wrong? Of course not.

I just favor the agresssive type of military approach that we’ve demonstrated many times over the last 20 or so years and much more so over the last five.

Jack this?

Tax Cuts an economic boon? - I’m sorry, but the Tax cuts have created a massive deficit, and the interest rates rising by the feds constantly was the only way it kept the market going by inflation. The housing boom being an example. Now the interest rates are stopped in rising, and of course the housing boom along with it. Sure this has caused markets to settle for the moment and even helped the gas companys lower the fuel for a bit, but something has got to give here. We now have a massive deficit, and a very high interest rate at the same time. Thats a big ol’ recession just waiting to befall the american economy. And if taxes are kept low then we will find it hard to pay the Interest on our national debt, much less the debt itself.

Freedom in the middle east firmly planted? Ok - Freedom at gunpoint is not freedom at all, and as soon as we take our guns and wlk away we will get shot in the back by those new found Freedom lovers. I suspect another dictator will take the place of Saddam the second we leave Iraq (after a nasty civil war)

You want to attack China? Yikes - can you say Nuclear Devurstation? I knew you could! Uhhm I suggest you watch the movie “The Day After”

Supreme Courts - Ok yah! - if you want all 3 branches under one rule with no debate while we rubberstamp policy through the door. Yep - bye bye - miss american pie, and our constitution itself. Just what our founding fathers warned us against when they founded this country!

Jobs creation?? — are you serious? Are you aware of the mis-calculations of Employment figures today because of the mass of Illegals in this country. Yeah lots of Jobs filled, and many of the same Social Security numbers used on those jobs. Yes we have lots of employment, but we also have (kinda weird) about the same un-employment as before. And guess which class group is unemployed or paid even lower salaries than ever before because of this Job status?

Well - at least you replied —
I’ll give you credit for putting in some honest debate.

Producer, I joined the Army in 1976. My husband retired from the Army, I didn’t. Instead, I raised 5 kids. My democrat step father fought in Germany in the 1940’s as a company commander in field artillery. I hope you appreciate the sacrifice we liberals made. As we respect your current he!!. But we don’t have to respect this administration. We’ve paid our dues to believe in the freedoms of the constitution, not “heiling” the president. I don’t personally know a military person active or retired who has any respect for Rumsfeld. Had the US gone into Iraq appropriately manned and armored, my husband might have supported them as we supported them initially in Afghanistan. But knowing the he!! of not having adequate protection or manpower; knowing the power of the US military that was wasted; knowing the strength we could have taken but didn’t, he turned his back on them. My Dad, a Korean veteran, also thinks bush showed more weakness by his inability to go to war to win than had he dealt with Hussein in other ways. The poor leadership in this administration have sunk us in a mess worse than Vietnam.
Granted, we know that good things happen in Iraq. They happened in Vietnam, too. The whole point is that the management of both wars (or whatever you want to call them) has been pitiful at best. And who takes the brunt of this? Certainly not them; they have their moment of fame, their wealth, and their lives. They will retire peacefully and live happily ever after while thousands suffer for their inept political leadership.

Cindy, I’ve spoken with a number of military folks who respect Rumsfeld - current Iraq debacle aside - for the following:

Pull up some articles from the first two years of the first administration. There was a lot of talk of “can Rumsfeld survive?” The reason was his program to “transform” the military. In brief, cancelling or suspending a number of the high-dollar, Cold War -era weapons systems in development - skipping a generation - and turning attention to the type of warfare we now see. He was savaged - threatened a lot of money and power. Senior military promotions are made running program offices that come to fruition - not cancelled. Those high-cost programs meant jobs in districts. He challenged much of the structure. Remember one of those retired Army generals who spoke out against Rumsfeld? At one time he was the program manager of the Crusader-a next-generation howitzer Rumsfeld cancelled. A bit of bitterness there.

The system he inherited (no Clinton bashing here, just the nature of the program development beast) is why we went into Afghanistan with hardly any Predators (Air Force had avoided them like the plague - ever wonder why the CIA was so involved?) - Special Operations Command was established over the fierce opposition of the general officer corps and why Hummers (a multiplatform jeep/truck replacement) were thrust into the role of unarmored combat vehicle.

So in that regard I’ll cut him some slack. Thank you for your observations.

-=- To Producer (5:06 pm)

I agree with you than an agressive stance must be taken with terrorist, but it should also be tempered with (ahem) “Real” diplomacy as well. Basically after you take some terrorist out there needs to be room for discussion with their leaders or we commit ourselves into a self destructive “forever-war” with everyone.

I am for aggressive strikes on Terror training camps, and of course stopping them when they attempt to strike. But we are only delaying the inevitable from being hit by a big strike again, as we bog ourselves down in Iraq. If all the terrorist were located in Iraq, then yes that would definitly be the place to be, but terrorist are located world wide. I don’t think our military can cover the entire world, do you?

Furthermore, by not having definitive targets in Iraq of just the terrorist, and by remaining there as an occupier, I fear that the hatred of “The Occupier” builds there until soon we have even more people in that country that will eventually despise us enough that they too will strap on the ol’ booming backpack.

I really think that the way to succeed is to have both tools, a strong military and a strong dimplmacy working hand in hand.

Reagan was good in that department and that is why he was great at world affairs, he just wasn’t too good with the national economy. But yes I liked Reagan too.

Just my thoughts — and of course subject to debate..

Thanks Producer

Oct. 13, 2006 - The sense of desperation Republicans feel about the impending election has finally permeated the White House, where the president did the equivalent of a rain dance Wednesday sounding the drums for disaffected conservatives to please save the country from Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi. With North Korea and Iran emboldened, and Iraq spiraling into sectarian violence, Bush sought refuge in frat-boy banter about “high-priced news guys” in pinstripes.

Former secretary of State James Baker, a Bush family friend, is saying publicly that talking is not appeasing, and he’s urging more direct engagement with Iran and Syria, and probably North Korea. Bush has been disdainful of the people close to his father, but the world situation is dire enough that he seems to be bracing himself to accept Baker’s recommendations on Iraq, which are promised after the election. Most presidents want to distance themselves from their predecessor, even if they’re from the same party, but Bush’s differentiation from Clinton and from his father is profound, and we’ve paid a huge price as a country for Bush’s need to prove himself worthy of an office he was ill-equipped to hold.

No. It is common knowledge that Hussein did have biological agents in the last century. However, in this century, we had inspectors in Iraq. They were inspecting in 2003 and had found no immediate threat. The 21st century iformation, other than what the administration propaganda, was that Hussein was not an immediate threat. Many, taught to respect the President, took him at his word, never believing that he would be so deceitful. Midori, Eleanore Clift, a closet lib wrote two books with her liberal husband “War Without Bloodshed,” a lofty notion, but not realistic, and “Madam President.” Would that be Madam Hillary? Condi I’d vote for.

Do you ever come with objectivity, or are you always looking for anything that can bash Bush?

Huge Parenthesis,

Lesson for the day:

Thanks for the inspiration for a new name for you! I like it.

Huge Parenthesis,

Just seeing how many posts I can sneak in at the last minute to the most loathesome creature on this blog.

Cindy,

How dare you impugn BD? Most who know her are extremely jealous.

She has a family that almost without exception has been educated in the most grand of our institutions, including Harvard and Stanford. They have accomplished magnificent feats in the fields of science and literature. Some have single-handedly eradicated infectious diseases! In a selfless act of heroism, one of her uncles single handely killed 300,000 Nazis in the Battle of the Bulge!

She has lived in posh central park condos as well as rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous in Europe, Asia and South America.

Interestingly, she is a direct descendant from Scandinavian royalty.

She will sometimes profess to some dislike of others examining her fascinating and well-lived life, but deep down she just loves the attention that she has so richly deserves.

We humbly salute her!

By Andy - October 13, 2006 06:28 PM - Bipolar hypocrisy rolled into one sentence.

Producer, you’ll quickly learn that Andy is multi-polar. He uses dozens of names, and often steals names from other posters. He’ll “borrow” yours, too. Just wait. This is why some regulars here are questioning your ID. Are you Andy? We’ll never know.

We call him drunken Andy because it’s the only rational explanation we have for his fits and lurches here. Pederast enabler is more recent. He thinks Foley was set up by those malevolent pages.

This, of course, is like blaming rape victims even when there are multiple witnesses.

And this stroker is too mentally stunted to see it.

See what I mean about his sex hangups?? It goes on and on….

His defenders here (RW, bi-Danish) are really strange, too. No matter what idiocy spews from Andy’s keyboard, they defend him. It’s nice to have friends, but with someone like Andy, REAL friends wouldn’t be enabling him all the time.

I’m off. See you Monday.

I know Huge wanted to come with something better in his 6:37.

{{{All upset because with me because I besmirched the record of his precious W.}}}

Failed again.

Randy,

There is nothing closeted about Eleanor Clift’s liberalism. She’s got all the talking points and even the sour look on her face that comes with wallowing in the misery of liberalism full time.

Look at Sybil b-itching about what he considers a mean sex reference and in the very next breath calling Buy Danish “Bi”, finchie you would be too pathetic for words if you weren’t so representative of your party.

I guess see you Monday means we’ll see you as Ed Sullivan over at Wooten’s. Pitiful loser.

Do you mind if that someone ISN’T ME?

Try one of your fellow freakos, they’ll probably be game.
