Great Toon ML! Either Dumbya thought that plan up all by himself or received it by divine intervention. Unfortunately the rest of us have to live with it then someone will have to clean up behind him after the next election.
Same sh*t different day. Andy will provide his dailey drivel and then the rest of the day will be an insultathon on the ML blog. Geez, what a way to waste a day.

What did Patrick Fitzgerald know, and when did he know it?- If the trip (to Niger) was classified for the vice president, why was it declassified for Mr. Wilson? Did Mr. Wilson violate any law by revealing his trip or did Mr. Fitzgerald choose not to know? Did Mr. Fitzgerald subpoena Ms. Plame? He could have asked her why, if she were truly covert, was she attending an Eastern Shore meeting in May 2003 with Democratic senators. Did Mr. Fitzgerald subpoena Mr. Wilson to attest he had never revealed his wife’s employment to anyone? If he had done so, he might have learned Mr. Corn’s source.- OpinionJournal

Republicans have to make this election about the Democratic Party and show America just who the Dems of 2006 really are. Mitch McConnell had it right when he said, “What they’ll do is cut and run in Iraq, they’ll raise our taxes and they’ll try to impeach the president.” Elizabeth Dole had it right, too. She said the Democrats will raise taxes and confirm judges who will threaten our values. The ACLU is the Dems’ farm team for judges like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. {{{{{It’s the anti-religious, pro-abortion ACLU that’s at the forefront of every court battle against the values most Americans share.}}}}} -RealClearPolitics

Records on file with the Federal Election Commission reveal that MoveOn.org, the far-left interest group, has “bundled” $168,591 for Bob Casey’s Pennsylvania Senate campaign. The problem? Somehow I don’t think this is what our feminist foremothers had in mind when they set about to liberate women from the patriarchy. Nothing much has changed when women are reduced to sex objects in exchange for T-shirts and trinkets, while men walk away with the cash. Boys smart, girls dumb. Way to go, gals.-TownHall
Regardless if they didn’t mean for it to happen, it’s what they got.
Girls going wild, nevertheless, has created a feminist conundrum. It’s difficult to make the case that women are gaining ground by exercising sexual autonomy when they’re essentially being ridiculed by men. This is not the first generation to awaken with a hangover and a “Say it ain’t so.” But it is the first to awaken with {{{{video footage of the night before}}}} — and for all time. For this and future generations, there’s no such thing as a memory hole for youthful transgression. Future congresswomen (and men) beware.

News for idiots:
As to the war in Iraq, daily readers of first-line Internet news services such as Yahoo News know that this event has been reduced simply to body-count headlines. Yahoo News’s homepage at mid-day Wednesday: “Bombings, mortar attacks kill 39 in Iraq.”-OpinionJournal

Instead of having any precise claim against America, these killers showed that their hurt arose from their own sense of envy and collective failure — as the now all too familiar references to “being humiliated” and lost honor in the tape attest. There is no doubt who al-Ghamdi and al-Shehri were — or what they were planning to do. Yet polls since 9/11 consistently reveal that most Muslims in the Middle East do not believe that al-Qaida, much less any Arab Muslims at all, carried out the attacks. Instead, Israel or the CIA is blamed. So the tape is also a chilling reminder that in this war evidence means nothing — superstition, bias and delusion everything.-RealClearPolitics

Of course, when liberals point out the terrorist threat, they are “speaking truth to power”. When Republicans do the exact same thing they are “fearmongering”.

WASHINGTON - Abandoning months of defiant denials, Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, intends to admit guilt in the congressional corruption probe spawned by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to Republican officials.
Ney, R-Ohio, is expected to plead guilty to at least one criminal charge, possibly by the end of the day Friday, these officials said, and become the first lawmaker to admit wrongdoing in the election-year investigation.

There sure are a lot of absolutes in your cartoon world ml.
NO WMD’s? There were 15 vials of assorted chemical agents found in an Iraqi scientist’s freezer, waiting for sanctions to be eroded away, so the WMD programs could be reconstituted. The liberal way I guess… let someone else take care of it and ignore the corruption it creates, whether it be our governments or the UN’s. I know, you wouldn’t have minded so much if we waited for Saddam’s plan to come to fruition and been forced to send our brave troops into some chemical clouds.
NO AL QAEDA / IRAQ TIES? There were non-collaborative ties between Iraq and Al-Qaeda. You can draw your toons and think the two would not have exchanged weapons to destroy their common enemy, The Great Satan. But, that would have been a huge gamble with Americans lives and one of the reasons your life’s work seems to consist of d-d-d-d-d-d-drawing c-c-c-c-c-c-c-cartoons.
Simply because Maliki went and spoke with the president of iran, and they are of the same sect of Islam, you conclude they are aligned, makes you an lopsided buffoon.

ML’s cartoon gets it exactly right, of course. Bush the Chimperor has made so many bad decisions, in exactly the wrong order. He’s got a death wish. Too bad he’s so intent on shoving it down the country’s throat.
Andy (Drunk Resident Moran), I can understand why Bush is being criticized for ineptitude. After all, he IS the President. This PNAC disaster blossomed on his watch. But the “obsession” you see on the left with Bush pales in comparison with the obsession that you and your moran pals have with the Clintons. He hasn’t been President for 6 years. She never has been. And you’re fixated on cattle futures??? Get a life. Or buy one. I don’t care.
My dear Copenhagen neocon, speaking of obsessions, is your obsession about who I am an attempt to divert attention from what I write? Goodness, I’m THAT scary!!! I’m flattered. And you’re a lousy Nancy Drew. BTW, you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out who drunken Andy is here. And my name? Easy. In his profile somewhere else, Andy lists his favorite bands. GnR and AC/DC. Why a neocon poser like him would idolize musicians who epitomize criminal irresponsibility and drunken, anonymous sex is beyond me. No, wait! Silly me! He aspires to that lifestyle!! Well, he’s got the drunk part nailed down.
But I digress. Adopting the bon scott name seemed a fitting way to get a dig in. Worked beyond my wildest dreams!

WASHINGTON - Another member of the Bush family is getting cozy with former President Clinton. First lady Laura Bush joins the former president as a keynote speaker opening his three-day Clinton Global Initiative in New York next week.
Clinton has famously formed a close friendship with the current president’s dad. Clinton has been a repeat guest at the Kennebunkport, Maine, home of George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara.
Clinton also sparked curiosity when he was spotted at the White House last month. It turns out that he and the current president were having lunch, something White House aides said they do occasionally.
Now we know what’s wrong with the Chimperor. King George is under the Clinton voodoo spell. The little stinker must have smuggled in one of those Democrat mind control rays on the day of the Chimperors coronation. Run wingnuts the Hillarycopters are circling and the sky is falling. Gotta love those ‘conservative,’ ‘Christian’ values:
“I continue to read and hear that we are facing a ‘different enemy’ in the war on terror,” retired Gen. John W. Vessey Jr., a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote in a letter to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) this week. “No matter how true that may be, inhumanity and cruelty are not new to warfare nor to enemies we have faced in the past… . Through those years, we held to our own values. We should continue to do so.”
Jesus must be so proud that these ‘Americans’ associate themselves with Him…

HONOLULU - TV reality star Duane “Dog” Chapman and two co-stars on his show were arrested Thursday in Hawaii on charges of illegal detention and conspiracy in the bounty hunters’ capture three years ago of a cosmetics company heir.
The charges stem from Chapman’s capture of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster on June 18, 2003, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, said Marshals spokeswoman Nikki Credic in Washington.
Chapman’s capture of Luster, who had fled the country while on trial on charges he raped three women, catapulted the 53-year-old bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on A&E.
“You see what the American government is doing to us? They throw us in jail,” Chapman said in a federal courtroom. “I’m so upset about this.”

Yup, 3.5 years later everything is going to plan…
Police found 30 bodies bearing signs of torture Friday, the latest in a wave of sectarian killings sweeping the Iraqi capital despite a monthlong security operation. A U.S. Marine was killed Friday in Anbar province, and an American soldier was killed Thursday evening by a roadside bomb northwest of Baghdad, the military said. The soldier was the fifth to have died on Thursday, making it a particularly bloody day for U.S. forces. Violence has intensified over the past two days, with more than 130 people either killed by attacks or their bodies found dumped in the streets of Baghdad. All the bodies found Friday had signs of torture, and one that washed up on the banks of the Tigris River had been dismembered.
Portions of Iraq already serving as training grounds/sanctuaries for terrorists, Iran and Syria strengthened, Pakistan carving out its own Osama Bin Laden sanctuary…
Our ‘War on Terror’ has successfully created more terrorists, terrorist training grounds and terrorist sanctuaries!! Wasn’t that the goal???

A relevant subject that has discussed on this blog several times, I’m taking a short section from the article to help make the point I want to:
For some 20 years I taught a number of foreign students from the Middle East in the United States, and sometimes noticed a disturbing tendency. Initial exuberance at America’s openness often was followed with deep uncertainty whether our rejection of traditional repression was healthy — especially in the permissive campus landscape of risqué female fashion, open homosexuality, easy mixing of the races and religions, atheism, sexual promiscuity, and drug use.
1) What prevents these Saudi students from walking or swimming across our imaginary “border” if they wanted to harm us, right now? If they “emigrate” will we not have at least a record of who’s here?
2) Even though we do need to cure our own internal sicknesses, listed ^^ above, I don’t agree that we should be changing our culture because of religious concerns of FOREIGNERS. America was formed as refuge for Christians and has carried that belief for 350 years. Visitors and new comers need to RESPECT that.
3) We are, despite the lunatics on the left, a good people. And we live in freedom with a respect for each other and a self imposed morality.
Why shouldn’t we expose these Saudis to that goodness? And hope that they adopt it for themselves?

How do you separate the message from the messenger when it comes to blogging? I guess that’s how you justify separating the statements of politicians from their actions and vote to erase history.

finch is easier to type than bonnie-bigot too. Nobody is attacking the messenger, just pointing out who the messenger is as we deconstruct the same pathetic arguments they made under a different name.
Counterattack all you want, I know you think we are your enemy anyway because you lack the courage to face the real enemy.
I don’t really care to point out what a failure you are. That really would be attacking the messenger.

The report disregards the May 7, 2003, decision of Clinton-appointed U.S. District Court Judge Harold Baer, Jr. that Baghdad backed the 9/11 attack. Baer awarded $104 million in damages from the Baathist regime to the families of George Eric Smith and Timothy Soulas, both killed at the World Trade Center. Once again, our DRM (Drunken Resident Moran) fails Reading Comprehension 101. Or maybe he thinks posting a paragraph from a National Review taken out of context is perfectly okay.
By You’re Right, Where Is Osama? - September 15, 2006 10:48 AM - A relevant subject that has discussed on this blog several times, I’m taking a short section from the article to help make the point I want to
After posting a paragraph from the column that describes how Arab students in the US are often confused by women who don’t do the chador, our rejection of government mandated religion, and our tolerance of guys who hold hands, DRM Andy concludes it’s silly to block 15,000 Saudi students from the US, because we need to show them just how gosh darn decent we are overall!
Why shouldn’t we expose these Saudis to that goodness? And hope that they adopt it for themselves?
But if you take the time to read the column by Victor Davis Hansen, you’ll see that he reaches an entirely different conclusion:
I have no doubt that the vast, vast majority of these students are wonderful people, but, given the one-eyed-Jack nature of the Saudi government, and the past utter ineptness of our own immigration service, I also have no assurance whatsoever that one more surviving Ghamdi or another Alhazmi is not among them — and just one in this war has been quite enough already.
If we really want to educate some Arab Muslims on the good USA life, I’d rather accept a few from Iraq. We’re far more likely to find young men and women there who haven’t had hatred of the US and Israel drilled into their heads at government run schools like the ones the Wahhabi Saudis control.
I win again, Andy. Have another drink.

Another lunch hour another post Mr. Luckovich.
I watch the news and hear how the insurgency is always adapting to our methods and them to ours. It seems to be a war of wills and it’ll take time.
President Bush is consistent in his determination. He listens to General Casey & General Abizaid. He has confidence in his military leaders in Iraq. I don’t like it when our presidents allow politics to fight military battles.
There actually could be a strategy in play here with Iran. Not something he planned for but something that can be dealt with if necessary.

finch,
If I say that I like Harry Belafonte music does that mean that I endorse his despicable politics?
That is a rhetorical question and does not need an answer. I only raise it to illustrate the utter bankruptcy and hypocrisy of your belief system, which includes the concept that if one listens to AC/DC one is automatically endorsing their private, off-stage behavior, and even assuming their bad habits.
I really hate to bring up past Presidents, but apparently this moonbat rule does not apply to your own heroes.
Team getalife,
I debated “finch” ad nauseum and kicked his butt on the issues. There is a limit to how much time I am willing to spend re-arguing the same thing endlessly, particularly if the person I was debating then pulls a trick of assuming a different blog persona and expects me to debate the same freaking issue all over again.
Is it a “personal attack” to point out how weird it is that while a blogger is using two different names one compliments the other on their “brilliant” posts?
Is it a “personal attack” when one discovers the lunacy of a blogger getting into an imaginary fight with its other blog persona?
Is there some moonbat rule that says we can’t point out how freaking bizarre that is?
Is there some moonbat rule that says it’s okay to lie about it when you get outed?
For you to try to claim some sort of moral high ground is beyond absurd, especially when you are endorsing lying and deception as an admirable tactic.

Thanks Scooter,
Yeah, I can see thing’s were much more mellow here then. People didn’t seem so hung up on just villifying each other as much.
You know one thing you said that has often made me wonder about it. Your implication seems that the left has been guilty of these ad hominem attacks before the right “adopted the same tactics”. And, of course, they contend the very same thing, especially at the national level with Gingrich leading the way.
Personally I don’t care who “started” it and the whole thing reminds me of school children whining that so and so did it first! To me, we’ve lost a lot of our manners and civility along the way, and with it, benefical discourse.
But, even so, look at you and me. Although, we’ve only communicated a very few times, one thing seems obvious - we are probably on “different” sides of the fence on many issues, but that doesn’t mean we stoop to attacking each other for it.

The history of Halliburton’s other major contract in Iraq—the oil contract—indicates the need for skepticism. It is well known that Halliburton received its first oil contract (RIO I) as the result of a dubious no-bid contract ordered by top Pentagon officials (including Paul Wolfowitz)—a decision that was “coordinated with the vice president’s office,” according to a Pentagon e-mail uncovered by Judicial Watch.
The rest, as they say, is history. After getting a leg up on all potential competitors, KBR also used its incestuous relationship with the Army Corps of Engineers to extract a second no-bid oil contract (RIO II).

Hey Osama’ —-
I didn’t say that - that was copied from another article about Haliburton getting no-bid oil contracts from the Bush administration—
Heres yah another piece of knowledge to chew on…
-=-
Mr. TIERNEY. OK. Now, when GAO issued yesterday’s report on LOGCAP [Halliburton’s troop support contract], one of their key findings was that the planning for the use of LOGCAP’s contract to support the troops in Iraq did not begin until after the fall of Baghdad. You looked at that report and didn’t make any objections or corrections, so we are assuming that is an agreeable statement with you? That is when the planning started, after Baghdad fell?
Mr. WALTER. For the work in Iraq, yes, sir.
Mr. TIERNEY. So it is a little astonishing to me, and I think to others, the planning for what is going to happen to our troops, their meals, their water, their housing, the essentials of life, their protection, all of that doesn’t even begin to happen until May 2003, after Baghdad falls, but in the meantime the administration had your company planning for Iraq’s oil infrastructure months before it had a plan how to support our troops. The GAO report also indicated that the Army failed to follow its own guidelines. The Army’s guidance recommends a comprehensive statement of work be developed in the early phases of the contingency planning. Can I take it that you were never charged by the Department of Defense to start the planning with respect to the support of the troops; and that it wasn’t a case of your delaying it on your own?

I offered you alternative sites where you could find what you’re looking for. Civil discourse.
The way I see it, you’ve removed your opportunity to complain about the level of discourse here. You made your choice of your own free will. If it’s civil debate you’re looking for, engage in it and acknowledge everyone else’s first amendment rights. You, and you alone are responsible for how “you” interact. But you have no say in how others do.

Just a burning desire to show how much Luckovich despises the president. He presents only his negative and biased viewpoint, seldom with any factual basis.

I thought Midori’s paraphrase at 6:57 was very witty and funny!
RW, From your use of parentheses in the first line of 7:29 to the excellent second paragraph, it attests that you have a fine sense of nuance and a mastery of this on-line world.
And to me, you perfectly captured the essential debate with “sounds like you are making demands against the freedom of others”! Isn’t this exactly what we do as “free” and “civilized” societies? We make demands on the freedoms of others. And ourselves. And there, my friend, is the rub.
What is tolerance and what is to be condemned? There’s a very fine line that society “defines” at any given time. And we as a people, have these socially accepted lines, that “we” don’t want crossed, at least in many cases. So we have common and other “laws” that we use to define such things. And still we have abortion, assisted suicide, capital punishment and countless other issues that we can’t seem to conveniently define, don’t we? And much of the hullabaloo here and elsewhere is about this very thing.
So, of course, I know some people are going to be unhappy. On BOTH sides. Let them be PO’d; I’m not running for office. I don’t relish pointing out someone is a bold face liar and, IMO, has “virtual” virtues when they address me. But I certainly wont shirk away from it either. I “arrived out of nowhere” (good one, BD) just because I’m interested in promoting good citizenship, good governance, liberty and justice for all, and stuff like that.
And so what that he occassionally has thick skin? It’s not even noteworthy unless it’s for a particularly noble reason. Think ghandi. And besides, most decent people “get” that THAT much hate is completely counterproductive anyway. He’s just the resident on-line poster boy for jerks incorporated, so when I “make demands of him”, I’m not trying to make them change, I’m just trying to make outcasts of them all.

The enemy combatants that we have here were captured on the battlefield or running from the battlefield, and they were engaged in combat operations against Americans, and in many cases killed Americans. What we’re trying to do here in Guantanamo is simply keep them off the battlefield, because we know that many of them would go back to the fight.”-OpinionJournal
Which is where liberals and John McCain want them, back on the battlefield killing American soldiers.

What a contrast to the likes of Pelosi and her fellow Democrats. Indeed, the one thing that may break the midterm election fatigue/indifference/malaise and put Republicans in a winning position is the contrast the Democrats offer to Santorum-style maturity. Turn a microphone on some Democratic leaders: That might be what makes the difference and keeps the GOP in power in Washington. The president’s Sept. 11, 2006, speech may prove to be a brilliant political move. Not directly because of anything he said — but because of what they said afterward.-TownHall
Let everyone hear how “civil” they are, hehehe.

For the love of oil, U.S. spills blood in Iraq-Urinal
Or is this just blooming ignorance at play?
I coulda swore all oil coming from Iraq was given directly to the Iraqi’s, someone want to correct me?
Besides which, if we were awash in illicit Middle Eastern oil, WHY IN THE HELL IS GAS AT $3 A GALLON.
You liberals are pretty stupid, you know it?
Maybe if you let us DRILL RIGHT HERE AT HOME, then we wouldn’t have to buy their oil, gosh.

From all of the senseless deaths in America, the murders, cellphone and drunk drivers and sexually transmitted diseases, I wonder why the AJC puts the deaths of US soldiers, killed giving freedom to others, on the front page of their “news” paper?:

In 2000, the President’s Council of Economic Advisers estimated the excessive costs of the tort system nationwide were $136 billion — equivalent to a 3 percent tax on wages. Using their methodology, excessive costs would today exceed $198 billion, representing a yearly tax of $2,654 on a family of four.-WashingtonTimes
And the tort lawyer infested liberals go after Walmart, what a joke.
Wal-Mart saves the average American family more than $2,000 a year or more. While consumers benefit from low prices, Wal-Mart succeeds. And as Wal-Mart succeeds, lots of people and industries succeed along with them.-WashingtonTimes
Bigshot lawyers cost you money, Walmart saves you money, who do the democrats get in bed with and who are they fighting against?
John Edwards is a what? A democrat and a tort lawyer.
Joe Biden is campaigning against who? Walmart.
Starting to become clear?

But maybe Ms. Newman intuited that Atta’s real targets weren’t the symbols of American mightiness, but of what that mightiness protected: people like her, bohemian, sexually unorthodox, a minority within a minority. Maybe she understood that those F-16s overhead—likely manned by pilots who went to church on Sunday and voted the straight GOP ticket—were being flown above all for her defense, at the outer cultural perimeter of everything that America’s political order permits.-OpinionJournal
Which of course means the liberals are fighting against themselves in the war on Islamic Fascism, but we already knew that.
“It is deeply disturbing to learn that a staff member of 10-term Congressman Ben Cardin would keep a blog chronicling racial prejudices toward Lt. Gov. Steele and others,” Sellers said. “This is the kind of attitude and gutter politics that Marylanders are sick of and why they are ready for change.”-Breitbart
It’s not deeply surprising, though.

Let’s do two from Steyn:
The proper tone for 9/11 commemorations is to be sad about all the dead — “the lost” — but in a very generalized soft-focus way. Not a lot of specifics about the lost, and certainly not too many quotes from those final phone calls from the passengers to their families, like Peter Hanson’s last words before Flight 175 hit the World Trade Center: “Don’t worry, Dad. If it happens, it will be very fast.” That might risk getting readers worked up, especially if they see the flight manifest:-ChicagoSunTimes
“Peter Hanson, Massachusetts
“Susan Hanson, Massachusetts
“Christine Hanson, 2, Massachusetts”
And then his own personal experience with liberal “civility:”
Passivity is far slyer and more lethal than rabid Bush hatred. Say what you like about the left-wing kooks but they can still get a good hate on. Sure, they hate Bush and Cheney and Rummy and Halliburton and Fox News and Rush Limbaugh rather than Saddam and the jihadists, but at least they can still muster primal emotions. Every morning I wake up to a gazillion e-mails from fellows wishing me ill, usually beginning by calling me a “chicken hawk” followed by a generous smattering of words I can only print here peppered with asterisks, and usually ending with pledges to come round and shove various items in a particular part of my anatomy.
I should post the whole column.

David Warren, commenting powerfully on the “Pope” “contraversy:”
By turning the story back-to-front, so that what’s promised in the lead — a crude attack on Islam — is quietly withdrawn much later in the text, the BBC journalists were having a little mischief. The kind of mischief that is likely to end with Catholic priests and faithful butchered around the Muslim world. Either the writers were so jaw-droppingly ignorant, they did not realize this is what they were abetting (always a possibility with the postmodern journalist), or the malice was intended. Th

If Edsall is symptomatic, liberalism is lost in a time warp, thinking in antiquated categories. Edsall approvingly quotes a Democratic activist’s opinion that there are twice as many angry conservatives as there are angry liberals: “Liberals by their very nature don’t get as angry as conservatives do.” Edsall, who evidently has not noticed the vitriol of the liberal blogosphere, is so blinded by his own anger he misperceives Republican realities.-RealClearPolitics

Over the past three decades, conservatives have been procreating more than liberals — continuing to seed the future with their genes by filling bassinets coast to coast with tiny Future Republicans of America. Take a randomly selected sample of 100 liberal adults and 100 conservative adults. According to an analysis of the 2004 General Social Survey — a bible of data for social scientists — the liberals would have had 147 kids, while the conservatives would have had 208. That’s a fertility gap of 41 percent. Even adjusting for other variables like age and income, there is a gap of 19 percent.-SFGate
