Good toon ML. Unfortunately, cycling and sports doping are about as interesting as an episode of Mr Rogers to me; to each his own.

@@- Nice quote from Plato yesterday. I prefer this one from another great mind of the same era and culture: “The reason we have two ears and only one mouth is so that we may hear more and speak less.”- Zeno, circa 450BC

The last time I posted I made mention of the fact that I am experiencing first hand the anti-American sentiment that has been fostered by the current administrations foreign policy efforts. In particular I mentioned the fact that even Thailand (known as “The Land of Smiles”) is seeing the establishment of radical Islamic factions in its’ southern provinces. Andy, ignoring the crux of my observation that current American foreign policy is creating new and determined anti-American sentiment world-wide, labeled Thailand as the “Land of Child Prostitution” in an attempt to discredit the entire culture.

It is true that prostitution continues to be problematic in the LOS but the Thai government instituted and has strictly enforced very harsh penalties (including death) for those persons caught engaging in child prostitution during the past decade. What is ironic is that prostitution was unknown in the LOS prior to the establishment of American military bases (primarily in the Udon Thani area of the NE) during the Vietnam War. Andy is then defaming what is not a Thai cultural idiom but an American perversity brought to this foreign land by American soldiers. Child prostitution is a pervasive and onerous problem in Cambodia, of course, not Thailand.

In keeping with my previous post, it may be informative to examine prostitution in the context of its’ existence as part of the American cultural idiom.

Prostitution in the United States“>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProstitutionintheUnitedStates) This link lists the only two American states in which prostitution is legal, Nevada and Rhode Island. In RI prostitution is technically legal but is not an openly exploited multi-million dollar business as it is in Nevada.

Nevada Elected Officials This link lists the elected officials and their party affiliations for the state of Nevada. Note that nearly all of the elected officials in the only state where prostitution is legal and openly practiced are Republican.

Republican Rhode Island Elected Officials“>http://www.rigop.org/Officials/) In this link to the RI Republican party we learn that most elected officials in the only other state that does not make prostitution illegal are, also, Republican. The implication I am making is that Republicans are intrinsically linked to prostitution. This is as wrong-headed as Andy’s implication that Thailand is “The Land of Child Prostitution”. Using loaded rhetoric to smear any culture or sub-group is illogical and devoid of merit or honor.

I return to the original crux of my contention that current American foreign policy efforts are fueling recruitment efforts by Islamic radicals as well as anti-American sentiment around the world. This may be unsavory, but it is absolutely true in my current direct experience. This should be obvious to all but the most ardent of the radical right.

And, of course, Andy ignores my statement that linking Republicans to prostitution is as “wrong-headed” as his linking of the Thai culture to child prostitution is. This is quite typical of my experience with our resident sociopath. I did not discredit the American culture but I did discredit the failure of foreign policy efforts by the current administration which is, of course, the bee in Andy’s bonnet.

RW- I in no way implied that all of our miltary are perverts and you have the intellect to know it. What I said was that prostituion was an import to Thai culture by American forces during the Vietnam era and that chiding the Thais for its’ existence as Andy did is ironic in light of that fact.

BTW- I do not partake of prostitutes as Andy implied and expend a great deal of effort and expense to rid Thailand of the last vestigages of this perversity. This happens to be one of my pet projects as a great deal of my ancestry evolves from Thailand.

Andy, also, challenged anyone to give a concrete example to support the evolutionary theory yesterday. I can give a couple, off-hand. First, the human coccyx is a vestigal tail-bone. Second, if anyone cares to look at the dimensions of medieval armor they will find that the average heights of the population during the medieval ages was about a half-foot shorter than that seen today. Our species has naturally selected for tall individuals.

This phenomena continues to this day in our current society. Tall is seen to be more comely and tall people are afforded more opportunity in mate selection and career choices. Since I am 6’1”, I have seen benefit from this selective process.

It is in the southern provinces that trouble is brewing. “My” opinion is that extreme left-wing liberalism has opened the door to boundless opportunities of wrong-doing. I didn’t go to your links on legalized prostitution in Nevada or RI. I do know that legalized prostitution in Nevada has been around for a long time. Don’t know if it was enacted by a Republican or a Democrat. That’s not important to me. As a woman I could blame prostitution on the natural urges of men in general influenced by numerous social factors. I have no idea what was taking place in the LOS prior to Vietnam. Sexual abuse isn’t something I imagine people would discuss openly.

I may be wrong here, but I believe you are in favor of legalizing drugs. You’re argument is that it can be better controlled and manipulated with legalization. Wouldn’t that same philosophy hold true with Nevada’s legalized prostitution. From a purely personal perspective, I would hate to see legalization of drugs, but if it would ultimately curtail usage, I’d re-examine the issue but remain concerned with what happens to the people within the “ultimately” range of the transformation in the law.

I don’t concern myself too much with what the rest of the world thinks about America. Our popularity among the world has been both good and bad, depending on what we were involved in, historically speaking. We’ve survived.

I won’t accept that this administration has contributed to “sexual slavery” around the world. The international community holds the key and this administration is trying to open the door.

Last year, the President of the United States, in an address before the U.N. General Assembly, accurately called sex trafficking “modern-day slavery.” The evidence is overwhelming that prostitution is inherently harmful to women.

Please don’t make me the pickle on your sandwich AntiR. It’s out of character for you.

Actually, Andy, many Americans (including myself) and most of the Thai citizenry have worked very hard to stamp out the specter of child prostitution in Thailand; quite successfully, I might add. Adult prostitution is the new focus here.

I do not define myself as “liberal” but if you so choose to do so be my quest. If what you are is “conservative”, I’ll gladly wear the “liberal” moniker. I focus myself on action and solutions. You should try that approach sometime, it is infinitely more satisfying. Positive outcomes are solice to the soul.

AntiR,

Then go back a step and provide your proof that American soldier(s) brought prostitution to Thailand. And by the way when you first accused the military of bringing perversion to Thailand it was CHILD prostitution you were accusing them of bringing.

Anti-Radical,

The so called American doctor who claims to be abroad for Doctors Without Borders, an apolitical organization for worldwide emergency healthcare. This “doctor” is spreading and agreeing with any anti-Americanism he can find. Anything from child-prostitution to any illicit sexual activity can be blamed on —YES—Americans as personified by George W. Bush or anyone military. All this in faraway Thailand.

How many of you know doctors that have the time to be blogging anti-Americanisms on a blog? A “doctor” who mentions some ancestral ties to Thailand which probably means they were immigrants to this country?

As I have posted before, I am writing Doctors Without Borders with questions about sending such a person abroad as representative of American healthcare. I will include some of his quotations. I will no longer support DWB financially as I have done in the past, if they want to send such people.

We do not need a combination of healthcare and poisonous propaganda against our country for ourselves or others.

Hi @@, I’m very much not in favor of drug legalization. I do support in some measures the “decriminalization” of marijuana which I consider to be less problematic than alcohol. I would prefer to see abusers in treatment than in jail. Personally, I wish society could get along without any chemical crutches.

From a clinical standpoint, I believe the active ingredients in marijuana have superior efficacy than the alternative, opium alkaloids, and I support the expanded clinical use of Marinol and Sativex (standardized preperations of the active alkaloid in marijuana).

I do not blame the problem with prostitution in Thailand on the current administration. In fact, it was the Johnson(D) administration that saw the creation of supply bivouacs in Thailand.

I do, however, now see the emergence of Islamic radical and anti-American sentiment in the southern regions. My own opinion is that this is the result of the “tough talk” that the President himself has admitted to be a mistake. It has turned much of the world against us and I feel that we desperately need world consensus in order to secure our safety and to protect American interests.

It’s good to hear a more reasoned voice, wish I could stay but it is 11pm here and I really do have to go.

And in Miami we have tens of thousands of Cuban freeloaders who dare call themselves “exiles,” 99% of whom have never seen Cuba or its never developed state, out in the streets celebrating the pre-demise of Fidel. They were placed there by cowards that fight among civilians so that when anyone shoots back they can have their enemies condemned through the televised pictures. If you didn’t know that then you are simply a useful idiot. From talking to you in other places and on other topics I know that you do know the difference, thus you are a hypocrite. What the h&ll ever happened to the days when critical reading skills were important and INTELLIGENT dialouge ensued? Now the most important thing for many here is trying to twist EVERYTHING into an us-against-them demented game of scoring the most political points? Who’s winning?

What is Midori LHAO about at 4:25? I’m missing the humor. Maybe she can be more specific.

Was it the outbreak of civil war?

Was it the death of American soldiers?

You blame Bush for everything. Was it the way Huge discounted people like you?

Does the word Yikes make you LYAO?

Maybe it was Delay. Only Midori knows.

My God! It just occurred to me. I’m just a Protestant guy. With meanies like Mel Gibson around, expressing their personal opinions, I don’t even have an Anti-defamation League to run to or hide behind. Woe is me. What to do? I get free lawyers if I join….

Huge,

Have you often been told what an absolutely insufferable, sanctimonious, flabby-brained a*s you are? For you of all people to lecture the rest of us on how “real men” behaves is a farce.

Freaking idiot.

p.s. Unlike you godless Libs, we don’t promote our politicians to the status of God. That’s a big difference between you and us.

Getalife,

If only the people you want to have free speech had free speech, there’d be none left - even for you.

BTW, I thought that post of RW’s was magnificent. Thanks for sharing it with us.

You’re absolutely correct, Bill. I’ve had enough of this “victimization” crap to last 100 lifetimes. It became stale 50 years ago. And Uncle Sucker pays all the bills for it year after year.

Don’t worry. The ACLU will be right there by your side when you bring your save NAMBLA lawsuit.

Have fun in the tub. Bill and Willy are already there waiting for you.

Heat makes Pat Robertson a global warming “convert”-Reuters

Wow! Pat Robertson actually now believes man is causing the ice caps to melt? And that man is causing the buildup of CO2 in the atmosphere? Double wow!!

Hard to believe his motives have changed. But a tiny ray of hope, nonetheless. Even if he convinces a tiny fraction of his flock to take some meaningful actions, it will help.

Odd, that Andy would post it first, but kudos to him.

Nothing but angry childish ad hominem attacks from the dildeauheads again as usual. There are thousands and thousands of statistics and scholarly articles that back up my assertions that redneck culture is a degenerate, broken, violent dangerous social manifestation; and rather than even try to refute the facts, these arseclowns keep up with their mindless mantras and childish comments.

How sad and pathetic all the assandies and assdanes are, whatever they are calling themselves right now.

Insufferable? sanctiomonious? C’mon now BD. You’ve worn those two adjectives out. Can’t you come up with something new? Buy a thesaurus or at least a dictionary if you must. Although I will admit flabby-brained is a new one for me. Not very good, but new.

Besides who was lecturing who? You’ve never claimed to be a real conservative man OR a real republican man. Just a proud neo-con.(with a horrible attitude) So tell me again exactly what is a neo-con? I’m serious, I would really like to know.

It’s easy to talk in sound bites, but much more difficult to intelligently say what you really mean, isn’t it?

Huge,

I’m sorry if I keep repeating myself, but you define the words, “sanctimonious” and “insufferable”. You don’t approve of “flabby-brained”? All the more reason for me to use it again in the future.

As to my being a “neo-con”, if you were paying attention and not just looking in the mirror admiring yourself for reasons unbeknownst to the rest of mankind, you know that I poignantly used the term “neo-con” to describe myself exactly………………………. ONCE.

The reason I did so, which should have been obvious to your garden variety idiot, was because I linked to an article on the subject of neo-cons from someone I greatly admired as a writer and thinker.

Too bad you didn’t click on the little blue lines, Mr. Huge flab-for-brains. If you had you wouldn’t need to ask me to define the word for you. Scroll up a few cartoons and you’ll find it. Try getting past the headlines for once.
