Today, a military draft would bring in large numbers of people who have been systematically “educated” to believe the worst about this country or, at best, to be non-judgmental about the differences between American society and its enemies.

The fact that we could use a larger army of the kinds of people who have already volunteered to put their lives on the line does not mean that we can get it by adding warm bodies fresh from our politically correct schools and colleges, where standards and self-discipline are greatly lacking.

Just getting such people used to the idea of duty and discipline could be a major drain on the military, not to mention a plague of lawsuits from groups like the American Civil Liberties Union if the little darlings were not handled with kid gloves.-HumanEvents

Thomas Sowell is a well educated man, considered in his opinions, and often controversial. He is also a arch right winger with little more than contempt for those who disagree (at least in the public arena).

In other words, Sowell is a right wing hack. Just as Al Franken is a left wing hack. (And Wooten is a right wing hack. Just as Luckovich is a left wing hack.)

Hacks should be ignored and certainly should not be considered as the basis of an argument. The marines put out a press release stating the people murdered were blown up by an IED.

Scaredy Andy, your Sowell quote shows how ignorant you are about Britain and the British immigration to America. If you’d ever been to England, you’d know that on their island, the farther NORTH you go the more ignorant and violent the people are - which is exactly the opposite here in the US.

The English immigration (not British, pay attention) was primarily 3 groups - the Puritans (Massachusetts), the Quakers (NJ and PA) and the Cavaliers (coastal Virginia and the Carolinas). The Puritans and Quakers had a culture that emphasized morality, education, industry, and community - ideas that are foreign to southern redneck culture, so these English have obviously had no impact here.

The Cavaliers were English ne-er do wells looking for their fortunes and seeking to replicate the English colonies in the Carib - based on plantations and the notion of slavery.

However, the very first ‘slaves’ in the US were low-class English whites and, importantly, the Scots-Irish that were brought here on indenturement, to serve their English masters. It was common for the master to rape the female servants, since under the laws of the time, her indenturement could be extended since her pregnancy made her unavailable for work, and the offspring could also be indentured, too.

Yes, Andy, through rape, most southern whites and blacks are descended from these English aristocrats, but these English gave little to the actual lower class culture other than their language and the notion of class (which, although the redneck has no class, he grabbed on to the notion to stoke his vision of white supremacy).

The importation of black slaves meant an end to the institution of indenturement, but Scots Irish still came, settling in the mountains from PA to GA. In western SC, these Scots-Irish were more successful, they dominated the cotton plantations of the Piedmont, nouveau riche (still, just trash) to the Low County planters.

Poor whites gravitated to the boondocks, and away from Anglicanism to Evangelism, the whoopin’ and hollerin’ churches held a dear place in the heart of the primitive Celts, compared to the beuatiful ritual of the Anglican Mass.

Although technically correct, Bush clearly did as little in the guard as any human being could get away with. Cherry picked, so as to not have to even take the chance of seeing combat, he was sent to an assignment in Alabama, where he promptly disappeared and went out stumping for some gop political hack.

Yes, he served his nation and wore the uniform. But he is IMO, bar none, the worst commander-in-chief in my lifetime (and that’s going back to Eisenhower). King George and his henchmen are all very happy to lie if need be and get other people’s heads blown off to have their legacy and they make me want to puke.

And he started out so well in Afghanistan!

The crazy thing about these old positions that the republicans recycle is that they have such an incredibly awful record of military service to this nation. AND YET QUESTION THE PATRIOTISM OF THOSE WHO SERVED IN COMBAT! Their cowardice, faketiotism and complete lack of heroism is evident at nearly every level in their misguided organization, from the current administration, to the gop representatives in Congress (including our own paragon of American service - saxby chambliss), to the republican stooges on TV and radio, to practically every single republican loonie on this blog. They have neither the experience or the moral compass to make decisions regarding war and it shows in how miserably they are doing. This OJT stuff really sucks.

Ironically, a MUCH higher percentage of non-republicans in ALL of the above categories have volunteered in time of war and served, many with valor and distinction.

It’s really time you gave this one up, RW. It’s truly embarrassing for you. I have mentioned this repeatedly here, but you will never see the light.

I would say Baby Hitler’s friends would include wOOt, but definitely rushncap. He seems to be into the whole genetic engineering thing that Darwinists tend to fall into. Especially ones like rushncap that deal with two or three generations of reproduction for their experimental pleasure.

I would suspect they are both quite fond of Marx and Hitler, but they probably also really enjoy the modern day teachings of Peter Singer. When you ask that guy if he really said you should kill babies with birth defects, downs syndrome etc. he said he needed to clarify.

That was the good news, the bad news was that the clarification is that yes you should do that, but you should also kill any baby that is in less than ideal surroundings and it’s OK because they aren’t aware of their own mortality yet anyway.

We are dealing with some major league sickos here.
