Blogging while I’m away
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
hello everyone, for the next two weeks, i’m on vacation and won’t be drawing any cartoons unless something really huge happens.
this will be the first vacation where i haven’t snuck off and drawn a couple cartoons. drawing is so much fun, it’s addicting. but i promised my wife i’d take some time off without working, like most normal people do.
rather than shutting this site down for two weeks , i’ll occasionally blog and if you all want, keep commenting.

Enjoy your vacay Mike - what with all the rednecks in DC and the Statehouse, and the high trash population in Georgia, you’ll have plenty to draw about when you get back.
Don’t worry, Sonny and Dumbya will still be idiots, Ralph Reed will still be a criminal, and the Religous Right will still be wrong and your average Georgian will be too stupid to figure it out.

Where does someone have to sneak away to to scribble a cartoon? One would think you would be more likely to have to sneak away to occasionally blog, but enjoy anyway.
While you’re gone try to think of Pot to Kettle and how different it really is to live in a country that the military you despise has provided you the freedom to trash them and then vacation in peace. Would they be the Pot or the Kettle?

The better and necessary response is to let Israel’s counterattacks continue until Hezbollah’s military power is substantially degraded. As for the G-8 and the U.N., they can be constructive by moving swiftly to impose sanctions on Iran for rejecting the generous offer to negotiate directly with the U.S. It’s clear now that Tehran perceived that offer, which was promoted by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Undersecretary Nicholas Burns, as a show of weakness.
Iran is testing the world right now. And if there is to be any hope at all of a diplomatic solution to its nuclear program, the mullahs have to see that their military option won’t be tolerated.-WallStreetJournal

But I do think that it is time to be decisive for one important reason; those who direct the conflict in the region do not seek a solution and even if America looks geographically far right now, one should not forget that technology will not allow her to remain so in the future and I think dealing with conventional arsenals today is better than to deal with nukes in the future and that’s the threat the world is going to face as long as religion mixes with politics in the Middle East.
The hesitation of the international community can be so dangerous and the intentions of the axis of terror are so clear. That’s why firm and resolute measures have to be undertaken against Syria and Iran who are directly responsible for the mess in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.-IraqTheModelOpinionJournal

The French, not surprisingly, agreed to this statement with their fingers crossed. French Pres. Jacques Chirac announced the statement was a call for an Israeli ceasefire. Chirac several days earlier was denouncing Israel for responding disproportionately … a patently absurd statement from a nation that responded to Greenpeace’s threat of protest some years ago by sinking the Rainbow Warrior. U.S. State Department countered, “There was no push by any country for a ceasefire.” It’s just another example of France being sorely out of touch with the forward movement of history.-RealClearPolitics

For Israel, a UN force would create no security whatever against future attacks. The UN’s years-long record on the Israel-Lebanon border makes mockery of the term “peacekeeping.” On page 155 of my book, “Inside the Asylum,” is a picture of a UN outpost on that border. The UN flag and the Hizballah flag fly side-by-side. Mr. Putin’s serious disruption of the composition of the joint statement and his gratuitously hostile sarcasm during the press conference cannot be overlooked as the United States recalibrates its relationship with Russia. WASHINGTON — It’s been a minor miracle: The presumed power of soaring oil prices to cause an economic crisis has turned out to be more myth than reality. We Americans have grumbled loudly about rising gasoline prices while tanking up as if almost nothing has happened. Over the Fourth of July holiday, a record 40.7 million Americans took trips of more than 50 miles, up 1.2 percent from a year earlier. In June, gasoline consumption exceeded 9.5 million barrels daily, a monthly record. Meanwhile, the economy seems strong. The jobless rate of 4.6 percent is surely close to “full employment.”-NewsWeek

Granny,
Talk about obsessive stalking. You direct 6 posts to me while I’m away, you link to messages you left for me at RW’s, and every post you write has a reference to the diabolical ootmvod (to @@, RW, and even Huge). Get a grip, you fixated do-nothing housewife. Put that energy into doing some laundry instead.
I don’t mind your taunts and I’m actually amused by them because you don’t know anything about me, so they are far off base, angry and frustrated, but very far off base. I’ll leave a few hints before I disappear for a while in a couple of weeks, just to help you stew. On the other hand I do know one thing about you- that you’re unemployed and spend your day sitting on your a*s in an empty house. You claim to live in such bliss, but no self-respecting person could be content doing nothing with themselves, which leaves us two possibilities- you’re not content or you have no self respect. I’ll let you decide which one is applicable.
Oh no, are you going to press charges against me for insulting and irritating you? Say it ain’t so. You must have contacted agent Mildew and Fox Mulder. Pair them with Andy’s imaginary attorney and you’ll have a great case I’m sure. According to Mulder, RW and Andy were promoted to official double super-secret FBI agents yesterday for their outstanding work on the case, so you’ve got plenty of artillery to use against me. I’ll wait with trepidation.
By the way, the plethora of obscenities you’ve been using lately show your aggravation and make you look, well, less than the sophisticated aristocrat that you pretend to be. They sound more like the rantings of a concubine posing as a maid (or is that a maid posing as a concubine?). I guess that beach sun is shining a light on your true colors. Have a great day.

So Bush will use his first ever veto this week to block stem cell research. What a yahoo. He doesn’t mind starting a war under false pretenses in which thousands our soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilians die, but he can’t have scientific research that will help improve the lives of millions of people because it uses embryos that would have been thrown in the garbage. There are few things I can think of that are more asinine and more immoral than his actions. But this is a man who yesterday sat at a table with world leaders, and as he stuffed food in his mouth and tried desperately to make conversation (something every mother tells their 4-year-old not to do), he mixed in a few vulgarities as he attempted to say something relevant. Of course, his food-suppressed mumbles made little sense since he wasn’t sitting on his ventriloquist’s lap and had to come up with his own words. He is truly a dolt of the basest character.

OotMVoD,
Have you ever thought that just maybe your arguments would hold some sway if you didn’t lie every time you tried to make a point?
Blocking Federal funding for additional embryonic stem cell research doesn’t block embryonic stem cell research in any way, shape, manner, or form. It just keeps the rest of us from having to fund something that we may find objectionable for a number of reasons. Some may find they don’t want to use government funding out of ethical concerns, others for the simple fact that it is not a constitutional function of government, still others may object on the basis that there are much more promising forms of research.
A common court room instruction is that when you determine that a witness has lied in part of their testimony you are perfectly justified in dismissing their entire testimony. So from what I’ve seen from you there is no reason to give weight to anything you say.
I can’t wait to see how you will claim President Bush is trampling the Constitution by vetoing a bill that confiscates our money for ethically questionable experimentation.

The problem is you are a liar and you just did it again. I don’t call everyone I disagree with a liar and if you would have said you thought it was awful that Bush would veto this bill and outlined why you thought it was better that the Federal government do embryonic stem cell research, then I would have debated the merits of that point with you.
You crossed over to the side of being a liar when you said that President Bush would be blocking embryonic stem cell research. That is not true and since you know that it’s not true you are lying. Sorry, but it’s as simple as that.

Now I just gave an answer to gadem that hopefully won’t be too difficult for him to understand. This answer is for anyone besides gadem. I’m not sure how anyone could read my 9:57 and come up with his 10:18 question anyway.
There are several issues being thrown into a one size package here to confuse the issue, probably intentionally.
Embryonic stem cell research is the one that some people oppose on purely ethical grounds. I don’t have that particular problem with it, my problem is Federal government involvement. I’m also more than a little confused that the very people that are always screaming at “Big Pharmaceutical” and their supposedly obscene profits aren’t demanding that they do this research if it’s so promising. Could it be that they want the Federal government involved as the camel’s nose in the tent to demand that government take over all health care issues?
I also found John Edwards’ claim that if he and Kerry were elected Christopher Reeve would get up and walk. That was one of the most singularly disgusting things I have ever heard a politician say. If this research held that kind of promise private companies would be all over each other trying to get these miracle cures to the market.

I’d much rather read the Huffington Post, and post from it, than wade my way thru all that senseless, meaningless, mindless, crap and bullsh*t that you applaud Andy for posting.
I just can’t figure you out - you seem intelligent one minute, then the next minute the real wingnut moron in you comes out.
You talk about being “disgusted” with something John Edwards says, yet you applaud Bush’s utter failures and many, many gaffes like he was some sort of messiah.

And in closing may I say, that in America, and Georgia in particular, it isn’t who you vote for that counts; its how often! Thank you, thank you!

I voted for the Democrats likely to be defeated by a Republican in the general election.
All’s fair in politics if you’re a schizophrenic or a dead democrat. Then you get to vote multiple times. If you’re a Republican, you can’t ask that everyone show an Voter I.D. That would be unreasonable.

Still no ml?
mike, step up to the mike please….or your doodle pad if you prefer.
Just step up. We have been waiting.
There used to be a guy in my neighborhood. I affectionately called him “Doodling Dick”. Had a “Piddling Paul” and a “Tinkering Tim” too.
Always busy. Didn’t take vacations too often, those guys.

Bruce Bartlett, who one of these wankers once called a liberal because of a disagreement with Bush:
Although Limbaugh presents a lot of opinions, of course, he also presents a lot of news — something liberals have never understood about his success. Air America, the liberal radio network, is not Limbaugh’s competitor; ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Times, Washington Post, Time and Newsweek are. Whatever else one thinks about these institutions, they are as one in terms of a liberal political philosophy. If you see one, you really don’t need to see the others; they are all pretty much the same.

At the same time, we need to understand that honest investigations of this kind will save American lives. Iraq is filled with false charges and conspiracy theories. Exaggerating or falsifying U.S. incidents and crimes is a key propaganda weapon for our enemies. Iraqi investigations that refute such charges, explain the necessities of battle, and show that U.S. and Iraqi forces are cooperating will defuse such charges and the anger and vengeance that follow. It will also give credibility to our efforts to end the involvement of the Iraqi police and security forces in abuses, death squads and other actions that move the country toward civil war and that aid the insurgency.-RealClearPolitics

Yes, that is what Kristof wrote, but the column was off. As the Senate Intelligence Committee reported, the CIA did not find Wilson’s oral report to unequivocally come down against Saddam Hussein trying to procure uranium in Niger. And Wilson could not have even known about the forged documents at the time that he made the report. Like Paula Jones with the anti-Clinton crowd, Joe Wilson always has been happy to mislead Bush haters. From the start, Joe Wilson was Paula Jones. Alas, now Valerie Plame is, too.-RealClearPolitics

Running from the traitors:
Last month he said he favored pulling troops out of Iraq and redeploying them to Okinawa. He said the South Pacific island more than 6,000 miles from Iraq could be the launching point whenever the United States needed to deploy quickly to the Middle East.
Murtha was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Abscam scandal of 1980. Seven members of Congress were convicted of taking bribes from a fake Arab sheik in exchange for political influence. Columnist Robert Novak reported last month that the FBI caught Murtha on video “declining to take cash but expressing interest in further negotiations, while bragging about his political influence.” When the House Ethics Committee exonerated Murtha of wrongdoing, its special counsel resigned in protest.
No matter how many medals Murtha earned in the service of his country, they are no replacement for good judgment. That is something Democrats considering whom to back in the primary ought to consider.

Neolibs defined:
Tough-talking Democratic critics seem to forget that American military moves against North Korea, for instance, could result in the death of hundreds of thousands of South Koreans and the destruction of Seoul, which lies well within North Korean artillery range — unless, of course, the Democrats are suggesting that we turn a swatch 20 miles deep north from the DMZ into a nuclear wasteland. That’s probably not what they have in mind. But what do they have in mind (other than working hard, day after day)? The Bush administration has demonstrated that it will take military action, if necessary, as a last resort. It is unlikely, however, that our adversaries will believe that a Democratic administration would take meaningful military action absent unanimous support in the UN Security Council — and that w

Bye, bye Treason Times, see ya!:
The print edition of the New York Times in its local metropolitan market is in serious decline. Management won’t openly admit it in so many words, but circulation is declining and its advertising sales force is facing more competition from new media, while traditional advertisers like department stores decline. The future is bleak, so it is time to get their money out of a loser.-RealClearPolitics

From Sierra Leone, where U.N. peacekeepers were taken hostage, to the Congo, where the peacekeepers traded food for sex with girls as young as 13, the term “U.N. peacekeepers” sends shudders down the spines of the persons they were sent to “protect.” For Americans, “U.N. peacekeeping” is synonymous with Somalia. Who can forget the image of the bodies of American soldiers being dragged through the streets?-NewYorkSun

Controversial McKinney fails to avoid runoff
At her party, McKinney continued to flaunt her opposition to the Iraq war. She entered the auditorium with anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan
I wish I could transpose the moonbat picture onto this post but I can’t. You either have to buy the “news” paper or scan through 13 election photos to see it for yourself.
Before you open this picture, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. USE EXTREME CAUTION, SHEILDING YOUR EYES FROM DIRECT CONTACT UNTIL THEY HAVE BECOME ACCLIMATED TO THIS HORROR.

I’m taking this out of context for the fun of it. From Daddy McKinney:
“There’s a love and hate of Cynthia McKinney,” he said. “Mickey Mouse would get a certain amount of votes.”
And she ^^^ did.
Sorry Mickey, I didn’t mean to slander you with the comparison.

ALERT!!POINT OF ORDER: Only 6 posters make over 150 comments daily on this blog. They never address the cartoon, ever.
These 6 people have turned Luckovich’s blog into a MySpace.Com chat room.
Here is their entire output for the month of July: “You’re a moron”, “NO I’M NOT, YOU ARE”, “IDIOT!” , “NO, YOU’RE AN IDIOT AND YOU’RE GAY. HA HA!”.
GADEM posts over 20X/day…..RW posts over 50X/day…..@@ over 15x….RUSHNCAP over 25…..GETALIFE over 20…..MajorityVoiceDissent over 15X/DAY.
AND THAT’S JUST THEIR MAIN ID, it’s highly likely that they reply to themselves with aliases so it could be nearly 200 posts a day coming from just a handful of budding journalists……But aren’t they cute? Mike Luckovich is wasted on these clever pundits. They deserve their own blog, and I urge AJC to provide one just for them, and PAY THEM TO STAY OFF THIS ONE!!!!!!!

I wasn’t sure if this article was talking about Israelis under Hezbollah bombardment or pinkos in Georgia who no longer have anything to smear the Republicans in the Governer’s office with.

Excuse me, but yesterday I posted a total of 10 times with one being a “test”.
Four, excluding the “test” on this thread and Five on “Homeland Security”. So how does 5+4=15?
All of my posts on this thread, with the exception of my “Mickey Mouse McKinney” contribution were relative to one of ml’s cartoons and this ^^^ heading (no cartoon).
So are you here to show us “The Way” to post, how many times to post, and on what day we can post?
I think ml has finally arrived incognito.
