WASHINGTON — A constitutional amendment to ban flag desecration fell one vote short of the 67-vote threshold needed for Senate passage and referral to the states. FoxNews

That’s too bad. I think they should add a rider to the Amendment saying, burn the flag if you like, but when a vet drags you down to the ground and smacks your teeth out - don’t be surprised.

I really wish that Mr. Luckovich (rhymes with what he is) would go after all of the drunks, sots, thieves and murderers on the radical left the with the same venom and verve that he attacks those on the right. You see, I don’t think there is one Republican in Congress who has KILLED someone and remained there. The Republicans made William Janklow resign when he killed someone in a car accident. Ted Kennedy literally murdered a young woman in 1969 and that piece of garbage is still spewing his venom in the Senate 37 years later! And that’s just one example. Limbaugh got treatment for his problem. Kennedy is still a drunk, and so is his son, by Luckovich’s standards!!!!!

“You have gravely endangered the lives of my soldiers,” wrote Lt. Tom Cotton, an Army officer stationed in Iraq, in a letter to the Times.

“The next time I hear that familiar explosion…I will wonder whether we could have stopped that bomb had you not instructed terrorists how to evade our financial surveillance.”

“Without money, terrorism in Iraq would die because there would no longer be supplies for IEDs…and no motivation for people to abandon regular work in hopes of striking it rich after killing a soldier,” wrote Army Sgt. T.F. Boggs in another indignant letter to the Times.-RealClearPolitics

Thank god we have the media to tell the world how rabid we are. And we won’t mention what would happen to every journalist in Iraq tomorrow if our troops disappeared overnight. Bad taste to hint that our enemies might not be champions of free speech. And let’s not pile on while the press is still mourning Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Isn’t it remarkable that, to the media, our troops are guilty until proven innocent, while our enemies are innocent even after they’re proven guilty? Compare the media feeding frenzy over Haditha with the utter lack of detailed human-interest reporting on the thousands of victims of terrorist atrocities. And just wait: In no time, we’ll hear that those terrorists arrested last Thursday in Miami were unfairly entrapped by the feds. –RealClearPolitics

Combined with suspicious appropriations dealings, this is the history Mr. Filthy Mouth Murtha wants the media to forget. Once a Los Angeles Times story about Mr. Murtha’s appropriations panel’s deliverance of $20 million to his brother’s defense firm began to gain traction last year, suddenly Mr. Murtha, who voted for the Iraq war, reinvented himself as an antiwar partisan.

Now Mr. Murtha has discovered that extremism can be successfully traded for power — a bribe of a different sort. We wonder if Democrats, however, especially their public-relations people, aren’t regretting having pushed television networks to air that extremism for all Americans to hear.-WashingtonTimes

In the interest of full disclosure, the AP should release the names of the “more than 100 top climate researchers” they attempted to contact to review “An Inconvenient Truth.” AP should also name all 19 scientists who gave Gore “five stars for accuracy.” AP claims 19 scientists viewed Gore’s movie, but it only quotes five of them in its article. Hey Edwin,

By “drunks, sots, thieves, and murderers,” were you referring to our president? If so, you may want to add cokehead, deserter, liar, and a few others. If you think Ted Kennedy “literally murdered” someone, you need to look up the definition of both “literal” and “murder.” FYI, amphetamines are illegal drugs (so is cocaine), while alcohol is not. Rush is committing a criminal act every time he pops a pill. Kennedy is not breaking any laws if he takes a drink. I guess you’ve never had a beer. Edwin Williams, you need to get your facts straight about Janklow. It wasn’t a traffic accident. Janklow, on what he claimed to be “official business” , ran over a motorcyclist, dragged this poor man some distance, stopped, got out of his vehicle, looked at what he had done, got back in his vehicle and sped off. That’s not just a traffic accident, that’s manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, hit and run, among other things.

Yeah, Kennedy doesn’t deserve to be in government, but Janklow’s sentence wasn’t any more severe - a mere 100 days in jail for manslaughter, of which he only served 30.

There are some differences. Buff, you illustrate an important point about the relationship between the (biggest ever) Federal Government and modern “Journalism.” In a free society with a free press, something once known in the United States, it is the responsibility of the press to obtain and validate information, determine the news value in it, and inform the people what THEIR government is doing in their name, with their money. The role of the press has evolved, however, into to major functions: (1) To entertain the public in whatever way that will make the most money for the media owners, and (2) To be a venue through which the admistration can disseminate propaganda, or conversely, attempt to squash the reporting of valid news to the affected populace, through various arguments, threats, intimidation, or favors.

Fortunately, a smattering of journalists still exist who, for whatever reason, have failed to evolve into the new age of “newspeak” and continue their attempts to inform us what our government is doing with our money, in our name.

Good toon ML but can’t you let up on this poor guy? He may often be a jerk but he’s also very sick. This is kind of like kicking a man when he’s down, and is not particularly gentlemanly or humane of you.

RW- Indeed physicians are allowed to legally dispense drugs (of any sort) to patients from their own personal dispensaries. The old black bag just isn’t seen much anymore due to the fact that doctors no longer make house calls except in extremely rare circumstances. Most doctors today will spend their entire medical practice without doing so.

Practitioners treating the rich and famous are very much exceptions to the rule and if Limbaugh’s physician is willing to take the heat, this is not an illegal act. You can be very sure, however, that his state medical board will take a very dim view of the practice and will most likely initiate an investigation and possibly impose sanctions.

One of the Majority’s Voices of Dissent - Most legal sanctions regarding drug abuse today come with very specific admonishments regarding the use of any mind altering substances while under monitoring. That very definitely includes the use of alcohol. Drinking a beer, I’m quite sure by either Kennedy or Limbaugh would be contrary to the terms of their probations and result in revocations of their release. The reason for this is that most addicts readily cross addict to any other mind altering substance (like EtOH) or risk-taking activity until the conditions of their probations/paroles have passed and then fall back to their pattern of abuse with their drug of choice. Alcohol is by far the most popular drug of choice for most Americans, anyway.

Viagra is not a mind altering substance and in Limbaugh’s case it’s use may not be germaine. Since his earlier case involved illegal diversion of prescription substances, however, he may have had exacting language written into his probation terms that would specifically prohibit him from diversion in which case he might still be in deep trouble.

The short answer to questions regarding Limbaugh’s latest round of legal trouble is that much depends on the actual language of Limbaugh’s probation terms (which I am not privy to) but it is definitely illegal for him or Kennedy to use any mind-altering substance, very much including alcohol.

Wish I could hang around for more of the discussion but duty calls so I will see everyone later. Will try to stop in at ML after Dark tonight if I get a break.

Dusty & Danish/Granny,

The wingnuts are at it again today. The NYT more dangerous than global warming? The most pathetic thing about that statement is that it wasn’t sarcastic; you loons actually believe that garbage. I’m not going to argue science and/or global warming with neanderthals who deny evolution and believe man was put together in a few minutes from dirt. What is a danger to our country is the media who doesn’t ask questions. If the media had done their job and asked the right questions, it could have kept us from getting into this debacle, the war in Iraq over Al Qaeda ties, I mean WMD’s, I mean freedom, I mean… The media is supposed to be objective and investigate real issues unlike Faux News, which is closer to the state run propoganda network in Germany in the 1930’s than it is to being true American free press. People like you two are what’s hurting America, giving this criminal administration free license to utilize and spread corruption. Fools.

You dont pull off something like 9/11 without knowing how to operate in secret and cover your a*s. The terrorists know their finances are being watched just as surely as John Q. Republican knows he has to pay his taxes this year.

The NYT article was news only to Americans, not to Al Qaeda. Come to think of it, most intelligent americans should have realized that this was happening. Neither liberals nor conservatives should oppose the program UNLESS or UNTIL it is being abused and violating civil liberties.

We have a free press that exists to keep the government in check. Now that this program is out in the open, the American public need not fear it being abused.

So, according to you, your family is an old aristocratic one full of intellectuals. Where did you go wrong? Was it because you didn’t earn the advanced degree and instead chose to mire in ignorance? Was it because you married a wealthy car salesman and no longer had to accomplish anything for yourself, so you decided you “earned” being priviledged?

Why could you not live up to the supposed patriotic and intellectual standards of your family? The Swamp Fox turns in his grave with every one of your posts. Have a great vacation.. I mean I hope your husband has a great vacation and you enjoy not working somewhere besides your home (only Christians would tell someone to have a miserable day).

They could not survive. Rush, et al. sell time, AA bought it. I listened to AA a few times, and it was just bad radio. Even if you hate Rush, HE IS GOOD at what he does. Pretty good scheme, read news stories, or play them, and give your comments/spin. Plus, his gags, Paul Shanklin songs, and skits, are hilarious

Dusty— not only Oxycontin Limbaugh, but anyone who continually screeches about liberals not having “family values”, and then they show themselves to be the hypocrites that they truly are, or they continually spew hatred for anyone who disagrees with their viewpoint. That’s some real family values to show the children, huh? As has been said before, those who cry loudest are usually the offenders… the list of the right-wing hypocrites is quite long. Air America in Atlanta was replaced by German Beer Drinking Songs. Someone bought the station and only Al Franken remains of Air America’s programming.

Cut one

When Air America was all l”eft” all the time, it was hard to listen because of static noise that obliterated the programs. Now, the German Beer Drinking Songs come in loud and clear, except for when Al Franken Show airs, then it’s all static again.

Nancy Rushcap,

Since you were too lazy to find it, here is the post from Comrade Truthman I was having fun with:

By Truthman June 28, 2006 02:02 PM

My kids are in public school, have made all A’s throughout their career and are about as brilliant as kids come - they, too, believe Bush is a stupid loser and wr criminal - and they’re only 10 and 12!!

I’d say I and their mother are doing a great job of raising socially conscious, caring children.

Also, my Ph’d sister is a principal at a public school and she attended public schools. Gosh, they must be doing something right, at least in my family!!

Maybe some of yo should try working with your children and their school, instead of working your life away for your plasma-screen TV and erectile-dysfunction drugs!!

I was mocking Comrade Truthman AND you all in one easy post. Since humor goes over your brainwashed head, maybe I should try raging in anger to communicate with you losers?

BTW, for someone who brags about how “socially responsible” he is, judging from this^^ and other posts, Comrade Truthman is a nasty s.o.b. - birds of feather.

P.S. You are Mary AND Nancy. It takes 2 whiny b*itches to hold your split personality.

MinorityVOD (Rushncap’s parrot),

I tell Mary Rushncap to have a miserable day out of compassion - just as I have said the same to you. You don’t enjoy being happy, so you see, I’m being nice by encouraging your misery.

BTW, If you’re so interested in biographies, why don’t you try the public library. A little history would do you good - just stay away from the Kitty Kelley krap you’re used to reading. It rots the brain and leads to misspelling words like, “privelege”. Which was not a perfectly forgiveable typo, just ignorance.

gadem,

Rush reads a lot of stories from the news, or what should be news, but the MSM won’t cover. And he gives his opinions in a most entertaining fashion. Looks like he has you beat.

My main problem with this cartoon is that Mike didn’t draw Rush Limpbaugh properly fat enough. Geez, this was the drop-dead funniest cartoon in the paper, all of the Living Section included.

This hypocrite railing on about the drug-addicted and about how the justice system is full of loop holes is possibly going to blow a sweetheart deal which allowed him to skate on major doctor shopping for his Oxycontin related charges.

i enjoyed reading all the comments from the religious radicals, these people are worse than the religious radicals over in the middle east. there is a much better selection of crazy extremeist religious speak here, just look at the AJC! the paper is written so that a 4th grader could read it! these crazies can actually understand the watered down stories, its no wonder these people read it.
