BWAAAA! Good One Mike. Never before has this country been so misguided by a nitwit President and those nuts in the Christian Right. It is so sad. These people are neither “Christian” or “right” when you think about it. As a real Christian and someone who loves his country, I am appauled as to what has become of our country under this administration. Oh, did I mention I was gay. Knew when I was 6 yrs old. NOBODY can tell me what relationship I have with God…not even these wackos.

It amazes me everyday the amount of anger on this blog, particulary from the left. As a conservative, I have been disappointed with several of Bush’s decisions and especially with Rumsfeld handling of the war in Iraq. However, the Dems are using the same strategy as in 2004. Don’t present any ideas and just bash the President. What is the Democratic plan for Iraq? What is their plan for immigration? I know individual Dems have voiced their positions (Murtha, Fiengold, Ben Nelson from Nebraskas) and while I may disagree with them, I respect them for showing some backbone at least. The Dems were disappointed last night again when the Republicans retained control over Duke Cunningham’s seat. Now the Dems are going to claim they won even though they lost, just like they did with Paul Hackett. But eventually you have to start actually winning elections, not just taking moral victories.

Look at these anti American liberals running their old Al Qaeda propaganda like it’s news:

Cover-up by Marines alleged

Washington —- U.S. military investigators believe the killing of an Iraqi civilian on April 26 was planned by a small group of Marines who shot the man and then planted a shovel and an AK-47 rifle at the scene, a senior Pentagon official said Tuesday.

How many times are these rotten bas-tards going to run this story like it’s new? What outcome are they trying to influence? Is this not perfectly clear for all to see, this undermining of America?

Another one bites the dust:

Alabama voters ban same-sex marriage Alabama voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, granting what conservative supporters called additional protection for traditional families in a state where gay unions already are illegal.

Now watch these liberals just totally ignore the will of the people.

The truth is the public does not believe the protestations of the press about the nobility of its motives. To many in Red-State America, the media do not just expose wrongdoing. They revel in it, rejoice in it, profit from it, as it enables them to preen as morally superior to those hapless souls whose sins or scandals they have uncovered. Invariably, the media seem not to seek to minimize, but to maximize the damage done to the institutions and the individuals whose failings or crimes they have revealed.

Listening to the breathless reports of Haditha, noting the glee and excitement in the voices of some correspondents, anchors and talking heads, one senses anticipation about what is to come.

By I Report, You Whine

June 7, 2006 08:27 AM | Link to this

The unfolding investigation of last November’s events in Haditha reveals much more about the Bush administration’s critics than it does about the U.S. armed forces. Although the inquiry is ongoing, it appears that 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians were deliberately murdered, allegedly by American Marines seeking revenge for a fallen comrade. If true, the episode was a war crime, something that must be—and no doubt will be—severely punished. However, the administration’s critics are already cynically leveraging the Haditha killings as a means of undercutting the president, heedless of the effect this may have on American national interests.

Throughout history, irregular forces have used the surrounding civilian population in two distinct ways. First, guerrilla fighters do not wear uniforms or carry their arms openly—critical elements of lawful warfare—so as to hide among the civilian population. In effect, they use civilians as shields. Second, like the insurgents in Iraq, they seek to goad opponents into mistakenly, or deliberately, attacking civilians—as a means of mobilizing the population against the regulars. The killings at Haditha show how this strategy can work.

Good one indeed. I wonder how long it’ll take the social/religious conservatives in this country to realize they’ve been had.

The Bush administration—indeed, the leadership of the Republican party—has NEVER cared about gay marriage, abortion, flag-burning, or any of that other fluff they trot out every election year to generate another stampede to the polls.

They make the speeches and promises about “traditional values” and “restoring our Christian heritage”… and then, once they’re securely back in office, they continue shipping jobs overseas and screwing the working class. And you suckers lap it up, every time.

Am I offering an alternative? Should the social conservatives pick a Democrat instead? Heck no. We don’t want you. You losers HAVE no party: just a choice between the party that lies to your face and uses you, and the one that openly rejects you. I’d feel sorry for you if I didn’t know you deserved it.

This is an investment in the future that will allow visitors from all over the world the opportunity to see the contrast between those who died to take the lives of strangers, and those who gave their lives to save them. The millions who will make a pilgrimage to Ground Zero will surely enjoy the fine boulevards and piers that their own generosity provided, but the experience they most anticipate is not a frozen latte in Hudson River Park. They want to confront the reality of the day that changed their lives, and the world they once knew.

The World Trade Center Memorial and Museum will commemorate, educate and inspire. It will convey to future generations that we as a people are more than sleek neighborhoods and buildings. That is something our enemies did not understand and should be reflected in everything we do on that much-hallowed ground.

First, since 1992 there has been a loss of 391 million jobs; however, during those years, America created 411 million new jobs, for a net gain of 20 million. A Dartmouth University Tuck School of Business study found companies that send jobs abroad ended up hiring twice as many workers at home. Most new jobs created are higher-paid.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports two-thirds of the 30 fastest-growing occupations require high-skilled workers such as environmental engineers, software engineers, and service jobs in education and health care. As to the gripe about the loss of manufacturing jobs, I wonder how many textile workers ever wished to themselves, “I hope my little girl grows up to be a sewing machine operator”? I’m guessing their wish is their little girl becomes a nurse, a teacher or an accountant, all service jobs.

No other military force in history has been so tightly limited in their defensive actions. And probably no other military force has been sufficiently disciplined to maintain such restrictive rules in the heat of combat. God bless our troops — if not necessarily the policy that so restricts them.

But what further cuts is to listen to media people casually perpetrate blood libel against not just the still-presumed-innocent Marines but against our services more generally. To see the gleam in the eyes of reporters happily cackling on about “other possible incidents” — about which they know not whether they even exist — is to be filled with a fury that we have a system of journalism that permits people with such mentalities to poison the minds of the world with their malice.

What does Tiger Woods have in common with union officials? Answer: they both play a lot of golf. The only difference is union officials get to play on their members’ dime. A lot of dimes, actually. Organized labor spent $1.3 million on golf in 2005.

This and other enlightening facts about union spending are now public because of new disclosure regulations championed by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. As a result, union members now have unprecedented insight into how their unions spend their dues.

For example, in 2005 labor unions spent $7.3 million on plush resorts, nearly $1.3 million for amusement park events, $148,000 for liquor, and $641,000 for sporting events. Ironworkers Local 40 in New York spent $52,879 on a new Cadillac for a retiring president. SEIU Local 660 in Los Angeles spent $153,000 on movie tickets.

Hey!

No nation is more tolerant than Canada. No nation is more multicultural than Canada. Provincial authorities in Ontario have even considered permitting Muslims in the province to be governed by Sharia, rather than Canadian, law. Canadians oppose the war in Iraq. Canadians want the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed. So how could Muslims not love Canada, like every one else does?

Could it be that radical Islamists want to kill Canadians simply because Canadians aren’t radical Islamists? This a concept which Canadians who once thought they could kibitz the war on terror safely from the bleachers are now having to come to grips with.

Bigotry and prejudice are wrong even if they are supported by the majority—sadly some people couldn’t see it then and they can’t see it now! Just because the majority votes for something, it doesn’t make it right or moral. Twenty years from now the people leading this anti-marriage tirade will be at best considered ignorant—just like the ones forty years ago.

Brian Curtis, what is your idea on keeping jobs in America. I am a true conservative, not a social conservative. I am of the opinion that the government should be kept off our backs, out of our wallets, and out of our bedrooms. The Republican Party has gotten away from that which is why so many conservatives are irritated with this administration. Why do you feel then need to call social conservatives names? They have an opinion just like you. Yours is no more important than theirs. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t make them wrong.

ML is beginning to show all the consistency, logic, and integrity of a real “politician”. Maybe he’s trying to set-up a run for the presidency in 2008. HARRISBURG - In the first major legislative action since the primary election shook up its ranks, the state House yesterday did not take up property-tax relief or lobbying disclosure - issues voters have complained most vocally about - but instead approved a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

By a vote of 136-61, which included significant Democratic support, the House approved a proposal that would define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

Well, this is just wrong! 61 votes means that gay marriage should have been implemented right then and there! You never go with the majority, what if the majority voted to shut off all of the air we breathe? Would you just go along with them?

My point is that we should stop worrying about partisan politics so much and focus on real issues. There are many very important issues that face us today. Instead of working on these issues, the Dems and Reps in Congress are worried about pandering to their specail interests. That is shown here every day. Who really cares about gay marriage? I was stating an opinion not what I want. I want a lot of things but illegals voting is not high on my list.

I think they should get in line for legal immigration like the rest of the immigrants coming to this counrty. Just because cheap labor is involved, I doubt this will happen. “Illegal” is a flexible term in this country thanks to the GOP.

Goldie, there are plenty of people that speak for me in the Republican party as a true conservative. Are they in this administration? No they aren’t. I don’t think the “neo-con fascists” are running this administration either. That is another ploy of the left, along with making it sound like the “religious right” controls the Republican party, when in fact that are a small minority of the Party. But hey if that makes you feel better, thats good. And I voted for John McCain in my primary in 2000. I am not particulary fond of Bush, but he is definetly better than Gore, Kerry, Dean, or Clinton.

Found in my mailbox:

Dear Midori,

This morning, Republicans are making laughable claims of momentum in the 2006 elections. They poured over $5 million dollars of national Republican money into a California special election to hold onto a seat that they’ve held since it was created by the GOP, for the GOP 15 years ago.

And they eked out a victory by 5,000 votes.

Their claims of momentum are as phony as their claims of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Help make today a day of defiant determination by personally joining in a remarkable display of grassroots support for four key Democratic challengers locked in tight House and Senate races in historically Republican districts that are at the tipping point of electing Democrats.

Ricky,

George W. Bush - Largest budget deficit in history; Largest trade deficit in history; Worst job creation record in last 75 years; Terrorism increases worldwide every year since 9/11/04; Value of the dollar is at its lowest in 30 years.

Bill Clinton - 22 million jobs created; largest budget surplus in history; Eight years of unparalleled peace and prosperity.

You state “I am not particularly fond of Bush, but he is definitely better than Clinton…..”.

Bush better than Clinton? Am I on another planet?

Also, we are in the middle of two wars; 70% of the American people think Bush is doing a bad job; The price of gasoline is at an all time high; The price of oil is at an all time high; Wage growth has been stagnant for the past 5 years. All of this, plus so much more, and the administration thinks now is a good time to put to a vote amending the US Constitution to ban gay marriage? And you say the religious right does not control the Republican party? Do yourself a favor - turn off Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Neil Boortz, and start thinking for yourself. You sound silly.

Danish, I would not quote the NT to you. I’m not Christian, and it would be far above your head. I never said wealth was evil. Wealth is self-interested. In that sense the 50th district is not dumb (I know a lot of people there, of all various stripes), it’s just that a lot of them are self interested. Trust me, no one there gives a rat’s a$s about gay marriage, or any other pet neocon project. They vote Republican because of pure self-interest. I can’t really blame them for it, but there are some who are better than that. Wealth is not evil. Putting preservation of wealth over the well-being of the country, however, is not good. Understandable, but still weak. And I’ve been to the mansions there, I understand why people would not want to give up those palaces. And they think that this is what Democrats will try to do, which is false.

I don’t listen to any of them as I have said in many prior posts. I also don’t agree with Bush on many topics. However, if Bush is so bad how was he able to win two national elections against the best the Dems had to offer. I will probably get many of the same old line that Reps are stupid and don’t think on their own. But thats okay. If anyone of you want to know what I think about any issues, just ask. I am sure you will be suprised and won’t think that I get my ideas from something I hear on the radio and TV. Historymania- Two Spirit, Native American Homosexuals

Berdache (from French, from Arabic bardajo meaning “kept boy”) is a generic term used by some for a third gender (woman-living-man) among many, if not most, Native American tribes. There are terms for these individuals in the various Native American languages, and the term “berdache” is frequently rejected as inappropriate and offensive by Native Americans, many of whom prefer Two-Spirit, which usually implies a man spirit, and a woman spirit, living in the same body.

These individuals are often viewed as having two spirits, and two sexes, at the same time. Their dress is usually mixture of male and female articles. They have distinct gender and social roles in their tribes. For instance, there was one ceremony during the Sun Dance that was performed only by a member of this group. (See winkte.)

Two-spirit individuals perform specific social functions in their communities. Some are counselors, therapists of sorts, while others are shamans or spiritual functionaries. They study skills including story telling, theater, magic, hypnotism, healing, herbal medicine, ventriloquism, singing, music and dance.

The word “berdache”, though not universal, is most often used today to signify a traditional cross gendered “male” performing in a shamanic function in any society from Native American (with the above semantic caveat) to Siberian to Island-Pacific.

Some examples of Berdache or Two-Spirit tradition in history include the Spanish conquistadors who met a two spirit shaman in every village they entered in Central America and whom they then killed. The Hopis used to hold a ritual in which a 16 year old boy was dressed as the Corn Goddess. All the men of the village then performed anal sex with him in order to bring fertility to the corn crop for the year. Subsequently a huge feast was held in the youth’s honor.

There are descriptions of two-spirit individuals having strong mystical powers. In one account, warring braves of a rival tribe ride up to attack a group of foraging women when they perceive that one of the women, the one that does not run away, is a two-spirit. They halt their attack and retreat after the two-spirit counters them with a stick, determining that the two-spirit will have great power which they will not be able to overcome.

The (Piegan) Blackfoot do not have well documented male Two-Spirits, but they do have “manly-hearted women” (Lewis, 1941) who act in much of the social roles of men, including willingness to sing alone, usually considered “immodest”, and using a men’s singing style.

Goldie, to say that everyone gets richer under Dems is laughable. Clinton got lucky and hit at a time when the internet took up and jacked up the economy. The budget was balanced because it was part of the Republican Contract with America. Clinton was smart enought to realize he couldn’t not sign it. I will give him credit for that. I guess everyone got richer under Carter too huh? Dems accuse Republicans of redistributing wealth, the Dems want to do the same thing. Cutting taxes is good for everyone involved. The richest 10% of Americans pay over 40% of all incoming taxes. The IRS has collected more money under Bush per year than they did under Clinton. The problem is that Bush likes to spend money and won’t curtail pork barrel spending. Just ask Sen Byrd. I agree that spending has gotten out of control that is why we need someone like McCain in office. He trully understands fiscal conservative policy.

Ricky, electoral wins do not make someone good. Nixon, after all, managed to win 2 back-to-back elections (hell, 3, if you believe that Kennedy stole one from him). He’s still one of the worst, if not THE worst President we’ve ever had. Just because you manage to fool most of the people some of the time does not mean there is something to you. Popularity is not the same thing as competence. In fact, in today’s world competence seems to often stand in the way of being popular. Competence requires time and energy, time and energy that has to be taken away from the important task of becoming and remaining popular.

Some widows of the 9/11 victims have responded to Ann Coulter’s sociopathic rantings on the “Today Show” yesterday. In part, they have this to say:

*Contrary to Ms. Coulter’s statements, there was no joy in watching men that we loved burn alive. There was no happiness in telling our children that their fathers were never coming home again. We adored these men and miss them every day.

It is in their honor and memory, that we will once again refocus the Nation’s attention to the real issues at hand: our lack of security, leadership and progress in the five years since 9/11.*

Did McCain vote against all 3 of those cuts while this war rages? And now they’re working on the “estate tax” revocation, for all of you Americans that happen to own “estates”? Hey all,

Read Jay Bookman’s column. It pretty much sums up Iraq: …”If we were going to invade and occupy Iraq, we should have done so with hundreds of thousands of troops, after months of intensive planning. We should have committed ourselves to spending as much money as it took, as much time as it took, as many lives as it took to ensure Iraq’s security.

But that level of national will did not exist, and the Bush administration knew it. Even in the wake of Sept. 11, they knew that the American people would never buy an optional war that large and expensive. They also knew that without a draft, they lacked the manpower that Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki and others told them they needed.

Yet they wanted this war so badly — they yearned in their bones to invade Iraq and depose Saddam Hussein and establish American military power in the heart of the Middle East — that they went ahead and did it anyway.

Since the American people wouldn’t buy a big war, we got sold a tidy war, a war in which “mission accomplished” could be declared quickly and Iraq could fund its own reconstruction. It was a fake war, an illusion of war, a war deceptively downsized to fit political will and not reality.

No wise leader does that. No wise leader commits his nation to a war he suspects it is not prepared to win, and we will pay a heavy price for that miscalculation.”

And, no, Republicans don’t have better ideas. They have 1 better idea: for the average voter, ideas don’t matter, slogans do. So they have better slogans. Which is why Republicans never dare debate ideas. That is a confrontation they’re sure to lose. But they have much prettier slogans. Does anyone remember WHY the First amendment was added to our constitution, you know “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” In other words,if some religions hate gays (rather than loving one another as Chist requested), they would not be aloud to impose their views. Well, now, right here, I’m going to reveal the secret!!!!!!!!!

Seems that prior to 1776, worshippers across Europe and the Middle East (with a few minor exceptions) could agree on only one overriding principle: Those who worshiped in any other manner than theirs should be imprisoned, tortured, and/or killed. So whenever and wherever Anglicans were in power, they would strive to eliminate Catholics, Puritans, etc. Presbyterians would strive to eliminate Catholics, Anglicans, etc. And so forth, and so on, whenever and wherever a religious group took power it would strive to eliminate all others.

The US decided to do things differently, just as today the US goes its own way.

To give Clinton any credit for the economic boom during the 90’s is a joke. It wouldn’t have mattered who was in the office at that time. Goldie, I am in the middle class and get more money back from each paycheck due to the tax cuts. Look at job creation over the past two years. The stock market is up. Pundits have been claiming for months that the housing boom was going to bust, but it hasn’t yet has it. Either way most of this talk is pointless becuase none of use are going to change each others minds. Whoever said that Randi Rhodes and Michael Moore tell the truth must be high. They are just as bad as Limbaugh and Hannity. They will never admit their party is wrong and the other party is to blame for everything that is wrong with this country. Complete waste of time if you ask me.

Ricky what stock market are you looking at? It is now under 11k, if you claim that the extra $25 that you are getting in your paycheck is helping you build wealth, then you have low aspirations friend. If you get paid bi-weekly that is $600 per year…is that really a benefit. It is $600 more than we had though, but I think the cost-benefit ratio is not positive.

so, to give Bush blame for the economic disaster we are now experiencing is serious?

If Clinton’s efforts and policies were so much of a “joke”, then what am I to surmise here?

Ricky, the only people touting this diastrous economy are the people benefiting from Bush’s sorry, incompetent policies.

Perhaps we need to add you to this list.

Ricky,

You are wrong about Limbaugh. He is the first to criticize his “party” and Bush if he believes their approach to certain issues is wrong.

He believes firmly in conservative principles and doesn’t believe that the policies of liberal Republicans are either popular or sensible.

Immigration is an example of an issue where Rush has openly criticized Bush and Mc Cain.

Goldie,

If you actually think that it is necessary to be a billionaire (or even a millionaire) to benefit from a great economy and tax cuts, then your ignorance runs really deep.

If you own a home and have minor children you should get a tax cut, unless your income is so low that you don’t pay much in Federal taxes to begin with - which is the situation with about half of all taxpayers.

If you don’t like that system of “deductions”, then you may want to support the “Fair Tax”, where the government doesn’t do a thing to social-engineer us through tax policy.

For all the hype and the money spent on the race between former Rep. Brian Bilbray (R) and Francine Busby (D) in California’s 50th District, Busby, in her loss to Bilbray, failed to exceed significantly the percentage won here by John Kerry in 2004. This is significant, because although she will have another shot at Bilbray in November, the turnout should have favored her yesterday, since Republicans had no other races to drive their turnout and Democrats had a gubernatorial primary.

The outcome proves that even with corrupt former Republican Rep. Duke Cunningham’s name fresh in the news, low turnout, a weak candidate like Bilbray and dissension within the GOP ranks (that led to negative Republican campaigning against Bilbray), Democrats cannot win here. Even here, where it should have mattered most, the “culture of corruption” mantra wasn’t enough to convince voters to pull the Democratic lever.

Godless examines a set of beliefs known as “liberalism.” It is the doctrine that prompts otherwise seemingly sane people to propose teaching children how to masturbate, allowing gays to marry, releasing murderers from prison, and teaching children that they share a common ancestor with the earthworm. (They haven’t yet found the common ancestor … but like O.J., the search continues.)

The thesis of Godless is: Liberalism IS a religion. The liberal religion has its own cosmology, its own explanation for why we are here, its own gods, its own clergy. The basic tenet of liberalism is that nature is god and men are monkeys. (Except not as pure-hearted as actual monkeys, who don’t pollute, make nukes or believe in God.)

Rumsfeld proposes pullout on drug effort

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld wants to end Army helicopter support for a joint U.S.-Bahamas drug-interdiction program that over the past two decades has resulted in hundreds of arrests and the seizure of tons of cocaine and marijuana.

But in a May 15 letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Rumsfeld said it was time after more than 20 years to shift the equipment elsewhere. The military is being stretched thin by the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and other commitments around the globe.

The Bahamas anti-drug program, Rumsfeld wrote, “now competes with resources necessary for the war on terrorism and other activities in support of our nation’s defense, with potential adverse effects on the military preparedness of the United States.”

Isn’t it nice to know that a doomed from the git-go war is so much more important than keeping drugs from our kids? Would somebody please tell Cheney to shoot THIS bastard!

Do you think it’s cool to be portrayed with fake boobs? Is that the image you want in the popular culture? The best that I can come up with is that this represents the hermaphrodite whose “rights” Thomas is so concerned with protecting.

Is this a hot issue on the liberal blogs? The red herring that is key to garnering public support?

Seriously. I’m trying to understand you.

If that is the way Coulter feels she is free to say it and I am free to pay her no attention. Funny how that works huh?

Who defines what is hate, liberals? I could say it is hateful to compare a US President to Hitler, to pontificate that the President knew about 9/11 before hand and allowed thousands to die. I would say it is hateful to say a President lied when the democrats were saying the exact same thing just before the UN inspectors were kicked out. But, I will not demand someone condemn the people who say such things.

Let’s see what good Al Qaeda is with it’s head cut off (poor choice of words, no?)

I don’t get to Mike’s stuff every day, but they don’t get much funnier than this one. As far as I’m concerned, the “reilgious” right are nothing but Pharisees and deserve every bad thing that could happen to them. Still, the way phony conservatives like Bush and the gang so blatantly exploit their bigotry almost makes me feel sorry for them…..only almost.
