Well, on the upside, it looks like by the time we’re done over there, there will be no Iraq to locate on a map.
BTW, I just saw the very beginning of the Colbert monologue. Man! Never realized that be basically called those who still support Bush “backwash”. So… so damn brilliant. He’s like a white Dave Chapelle.

By the time we finish with Iraq, it won’t be a place that anyone would want to be anyway so what difference does it make. We broke it and GWB is hoping that they going to fix it. (or the next president will)
Years from now the only thing we will remember about Iraq is that thousands of soldiers died there for no good reason. We’ll leave it worse that we found it.

I’m curious about something. When you went to that Catholic college and that Ivy League Grad school - Did you study an ancient subject called, “Western Civilization”, or had that been banned by the time you went to University?
And what was the position of the Catholic Church on divestment with Israel? Or was that before the churches began a mad rush to divest themselves?

Yes, Danish, it’s the liberals’ fault. Especially considering that those countries ahead of us have, on average, far more liberal gvts. And, of course, it’s those liberals who don’t want to teach our children biology (evolution) but do want to teach them fantasy (Bible). But all is not lost. After all, what with No Child Left Behind such a resounding success, hell, our kids will be getting PhDs by 11th grade (10th if they are in Honors PhD reserach).

finch, Buy Danish,
Pretty much any dose of Oxycontin can be addictive. That is why there are such tight controls on perscriptions. It’s not like you can get refills. You have to get an original signed perscription every time you go to the pharmacy. People do all sorts of whacky things to get them. Stealing perscription pads, waiting until after hours and trying to get the covering doc to perscribe them, going to the ER complaining of kidney stones (a little blood in the urine from a p****** finger helps), trying to change the number of pills. Most doctors are well aware of all the tricks and unless they are complicit, they catch on pretty quick when someone is addicted. Usually, the medication can be withdrawn slowly and the addiction taken care of. Some people like the high enough to engage in drug seeking behaviours rather than deal with the problem. There is always that element of choice.

Ummmm, noted Bush critic Bruce Bartlett:
Another factor is that Mr. Snow comes from Fox News, where he has been a radio and television personality for many years. It confirms in the minds of many reporters that the relationship between Fox and the Republican Party goes over the line and makes a mockery of Fox’s journalistic integrity. But of course this is just hypocrisy. The rest of the major media leans so heavily toward the Democratic Party it is simply taken as the normal state of affairs.

When you hear the liberals hem and haw about Darfur, ask yourself why doesn’t a million malaria deaths a year in Africa matter:
USAID is the federal government’s lead agency in efforts to help African countries find ways to battle the continent’s deadliest disease, which kills about a million Africans yearly, most of them young children and pregnant women. DDT is generally cheaper and more effective than other insecticides in preventing household bites.
Later this year, Mr. Miller said, USAID will begin using DDT as part of malaria-control efforts in three nations — Mozambique, Ethiopia and Zambia. Nearly $10 million in federal funds has been allocated this year for “indoor residual spraying” in those three countries.
Is their beloved junk science that important to them? Do questionable findings over bird egg shells take precedence over a million women and children?
Yes on both counts. Feels good to them, really hurts the people they are “helping.”

OK toon ML. Everyone always likes to blame the schools and the government for the failure of our youth to learn. We pay them so they should produce.
Perhaps, though, there is something else at play in this area. Could it be that both Mom and Dad are so busy achieving that they don’t have any time to spend with their children on homework and life lessons?
American prosperity is now such that in most households, both parents work. They also work long hours in order to secure their position, telling themselves that they are securing their family’s prosperity. Often one or both parents work more than one job each. There are now more single parent households than traditional ones.
We have become a nation of latch-key kids. The absence of parents in the upbringing of our youth has impacted not only educational institutions but juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, and family cohesiveness as well. We blame the schools for our own failure to be parents.
It’s not an easy problem to solve. Few can afford to have only one spouse work (I have been fortunate enough to be included in this category). The demands of modern society for our children’s time is enormous. People naturally tend to think that they can make the time up later when they can fit it into their schedules but that is exactly what they cannot do.
The cornerstone to solving this problem is having parents engaged and spending quality time with their kids. In order for that to happen, we would have to return to a familial model from the 50’s when only one parent worked only 8 hours per day. That would, also, mean no midnight or all night store hours, turning off the television and shutting down the blogs, video games, cell phones, etc, etc, etc.
Are parents willing to place the welfare of their children above their own desires for “modern” living? I think not. That’s a shame and a burden for us all to bear, our children most of all.

Here’s what seekling obviously thinks was good for Iraq:
One torture technique favored by Saddam’s henchman and his sons involved raping a detainee’s mother or sister in front of him until he talked. In Saddam’s torture chambers women, when not tortured and raped, spent years in dark jails. If lucky, their suckling children were allowed to be with them. In most cases, however, these children were considered a nuisance to be disposed of; mass graves currently being uncovered contain many corpses of children buried alive with their mothers.
And, of course, foreign terrorists blowing themselves up among innocents for the cameras of the drive by media is somehow our fault.
As soon as you pinkos start speaking out against suicide bombers, instead of cheering them on and making movies about them, it will stop. Could that be why you aren’t saying anything?

Here’s what happened the last time the anti American scum accused the United States of purposefully killing civilians:
Amnesty International today wrote to US President George Bush to express its concern that between 13 and 18 people were killed on 13 January 2006, when missiles were fired into three houses in Damadola in Bajaur Agency, a federally administered tribal area. Reports indicate that “Hellfire” missiles were fired from an unmanned Predator drone probably operated by the CIA.
Well, it actually turned out that the house was full of terrorists:
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An al-Qaida explosives and chemical weapons expert and a relative of the terror network’s No. 2 leader were among four top operatives believed killed in a U.S. missile strike in Pakistan last week, Pakistani security officials said Thursday.

Well, let’s see what history says, this is new to you scumbags, spend all your time studying perversion, so bare with me:
It was the biggest and bloodiest single battle American soldiers ever fought — one in which nearly 80,000 Americans were killed, maimed, or captured. On 16 December 1944 the Germans started their ARDENNES OFFENSIVE. The 106th Infantry Division, in place on a salient jutting out into Germany were hit with full force. After three days of battle, two of the Regiments, the 422nd and the 423rd were surrounded.
While this setback in WW2 was nowhere near as horrible and frightening as having a few scrungy terrorists running loose in Afghanistan, the United States went on to lose against the Germans because we were weak and scared. Well probably do the same here, surrender the 82nd Airborne Division to a couple of ragtag islamic loonies.

Everything Biden does is self-serving, so no need to dwell on that. As for destructive: the Bush administration long has been pressuring Iraqi factions to work better together. Their joint decision now to replace an inept prime minister with al-Malik is a major milestone on the road to Iraqi independence and self-government, an accomplishment surely as significant as crafting its new constitution and holding successful elections.
This step toward overcoming centuries of hatred and bloody warfare apparently isn’t all that stunning for Biden, whose op-ed virtually ignored this accomplishment. Nor is it newsworthy for the American media, which suffered the indignity of having to mention it at all. Constitution, elections, unified government; skeptical politicians and media said none of it would happen. And after each happened, they quickly moved on to find the next thing “that’ll never happen.”
I know something that will “never happen,” that’s any liberal prediction coming true.

But the consumers, who are also voters, have helped, too. The truth is that the advantages of big, gas-guzzling cars have, at least until recently, been large. Big cars are convenient. They are comfortable. They use more gas, but gas, even at $3 a gallon, is still historically cheap when you adjust for inflation. They feel safer — bigger, wider — even if they aren’t. They make it possible to live on larger plots of land, farther away from smog. Above all — and this is the factor too many analysts overlook — they make it easier to transport large numbers of children. Speaking as someone whose car can hold only three small children in car seats (or four large children with one in front), I can testify to the fact that my car is inadequate to the requirements of the modern, four-family carpool. The fear that she’d be left out of the four-family carpool in her neighborhood recently inspired a friend to ditch her compact for a new sport-utility vehicle that seats seven.

May 03, 2006 Prepare For Iran, Get Out of Iraq By Ed Koch
The President of Iran has threatened the very existence of the United States and its ally Israel, and will soon be capable of using nuclear weapons to carry out his threat.
That’s as far as I could read because this lib has obviously had a nervous breakdown. Does any normal functioning human being believe that Iran could ever successfully eliminate the United States of America before the first of our thousands of nuclear warheads arrived in Teheran?
And as far as abandoning the democratic government in Iraq, I’m sure that would greatly comfort any potential allies we have in Iran.

Let’s hear what a pinko from the Washington Post has to say about conservation:

* *FINALLY! * ML addresses a *real problem in our society! Our public schools are failing our kids because of teacher’s unions and not allowing school vouchers. But it’s not solely the teacher’s fault. Education starts and ends in the home. If parents would spend more time reading and working with their children at home things would be alot different. They need to know exactly what their teachers are trying to put into their young sculls as well (i.e. Jay Bennish in Colorado).

Ooops, wrong pinko:
Whatever happens, the larger question is how Americans build on this episode. It may feel good to vilify the major oil companies and the oil cartel. But that won’t help. We now import 60 percent of our oil; large imports will continue indefinitely. So far, we’ve escaped a true calamity. We may not be so lucky in the future. We could minimize our vulnerabilities to supply interruptions and price increases. We could open up more acreage (including Alaska) to drilling. We could orchestrate — through tougher fuel economy standards and a gradually rising energy tax — a big shift toward more-efficient vehicles. Once again, we’ve been warned. Will we continue to ignore it?
This one is from PMSNBC, it’s hard for me to keep track of liberals.

That’s brilliant of you to post something from Amnesty International, seekling:
The Sudanese people therefore need the help of the international community. The UN Security Council must refer the situation in the Sudan to the International Criminal Court and support a comprehensive reform of the Sudanese justice system, to ensure that those responsible for the worst crimes in Sudan are held accountable.
That’s what these scumbags recommend for Darfur. After the killing is over and the millions of corpses have been cleaned up, the 5 star hotels are ready for the European bureaucrats to reoccupy them, then let’s prosecute the killers. Wonderful.
Meanwhile, they bad mouth the only nation in the world that can end the killing, making it politically impossible for us to intervene, with scummy little articles that maggots like seekling post. Now we know who to blame for the killing.

Americans who are “shocked” by moviemakers dramatizing the heroism of passengers on the airplane that went down in Shanksville, Pa., on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, are as asleep as legislators who aren’t serious about protecting our borders, diplomats who want to make nice with the terrorists who run Iran and oppress its people, and those who would have left Saddam Hussein in power. New democrat motto: Love the sin, hate the sinner.
Andy,
That is perfect!! I vote for its inclusion in the Rictionary, along with Pulitzer Patriot. Since it is the exact opposite of Christianity, it could also be a defition of 21st Century Secularism:
Secularism: (noun) A belief system whose guiding principle is to love the sin, but hate the sinner.
Democrat: (noun) A member of a politcal party which is guided by a belief in institutionalized Secularism. The sole exception is the appeasement of Radical Islam, formerly Islam, which was a religion of peace until April 2003 when George Bush invaded Iraq.
Appeasement: (Noun). Foreign policy practiced by Democrats which holds the belief that everything bad that happens in the world is the fault of President George W. Bush, also known as The Great Satan, and a neo-con puppet. Appeasers are often found in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Ted Kennedy is a famous Appeaser.

The Democrats made a huge tactical error a few decades ago. In the middle of doing the great work of the ’60s—civil rights, women’s liberation, gay inclusion—we decided to stigmatize the white male. The union dues—paying, churchgoing, beer-drinking family man got nothing but ridicule and venom from us. So he dumped us. And he took the wife and kids with him.
And now here we are, living in a country with a political and economic agenda we deplore, losing election after election and wondering why.

Catching up from last night, and your spurious claims about my comments -
I stated that Rush admitted his addiction to the morphine derivative Oxyconton or Oxycodone, which according to finch, (sarc)is highly addictive and may even escape a physician’s notice. It may have contributed to his deafness.
He voluntarily went into rehab, and despite what finch claims, has shown sincere and impassioned humility about the experience. He is still under a doctor’s care.
He has spent millions of dollars plus an additional $30 Gs for good measure to defend himself against an allegation that has only been prosecuted one other time in the history of Palm Beach County.
The only thing that Rush has not done to atone for his sin is to go waterboarding in Camp Gitmo.

Hooker? Is that all these liberals are capable of relating normal everyday activities too?
Conservative thought process: Serving customers as in a fast food restaurant, which would be a slam to a person’s financial capabilities, which in this case fits seekling perfectly, can’t you just picture it in a chicken costume?
Pinko liberal thought process: Serving customers as in the hookers they regularly visit. No problem at all demeaning women here, that’s all a lib can relate a woman to is being is a sex object. Make mention of women, the lib thinks of meat.
Conservative thought process: How can I be accused of sexual discrimination for asking someone if they are “on the rag?” I must really be missing something here, especially considering the sudden tender sensibilities of the pinko liberal, their new found dignity. So I responded sarcastically, which I guess left the simpletons behind, cluelessly in the dark. Apparently muttering to themselves also.

Actually the fouling of beaches is a long shot. The environmental dangers of oil exploration and extraction rank right up with the marvels of Cuba’s healthcare as modern man’s most zealously cherished fables. It’s the transportation of oil that accounts for the overwhelming number of oil spills. Recall the Valdez, the Cadiz, and the Argo Merchant. These were all tanker spills.
And even these (though hyped hysterically as environmental catastrophes) always play out as minor blips, those pictures of oil soaked seagulls notwithstanding. To the horror and anguish of professional greenies, Alaska’s Prince William Sound recovered completely. More birds get fried by landing on power lines and smashed to pulp against picture windows in one week than perished from three decades of oil spills.

Well, the stated purpose for the gas tax was to discourage gas consumption and encourage public pressure on Congress and the White House to promote alternative fuels, mass transit and clean energy. Well, they got their $3 a gallon and all of the above is happening, but liberals still aren’t happy. That’s because they wanted that extra $1.50 or so per gallon of gas so they could pass it on to various environmental and liberal groups, which would in turn support the liberals.

Kevin I thought I knew Christians, because I am one. However the Christians that I know do not go out of their way to go against the teachings of Christ. Yes everyone sins and falls short, but that is no excuse to knowingly sin. The arguments about Christians sinning is weak in my opinion. That does not excuse Andy from his actions nor words.

Remember the Terry Sciavo memo. That is called a leak and you will get fired.
Here is one memo, the GOP should have kept secret
I say, the contract with America has been broken and they should be fired.
We should have a contract with the world stating that 70% of Americans are ashamed of our government and all responses to government actions should be addressed to the officials and the 30% followers and not the 70% of real Americans.

RW,
Actually, we have been fighting Muslims in one form or other since the 1790s, in the form of the Barbary Pirates
Things have not changed much since then:
In 1784, the United States Congress allocated money for payment of tribute to the pirates.
Use for the money came in 1785, when the dey of Algiers took two American ships hostage and demanded $60,000 in ransom for their crews. Then-ambassador to France Thomas Jefferson argued that conceding the ransom would only encourage more attacks. His objections fell on the deaf ears of an inexperienced American government too riven with domestic discord to make a strong show of force overseas. The U.S. paid Algiers the ransom, and continued to pay up to $1 million per year over the next 15 years for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages. Payments in ransom and tribute to the privateering states amounted to 20 percent of United States government annual revenues in 1800.
Fascinating stuff isn’t it!
I wonder if it is okay with the Lib’s rules to go back this far in time. I like to refer to it as the Pre-Neo-Con Era.

I just heard a national weather service spokesman discussing tsunamis in relationship to earthquakes. He said that the magnitude wasn’t really the driving force as much as whether plates were laterally shifting against each other which wouldn’t normally cause a tsunami or if it was a plate lifting which would displace a huge amount of water and thus cause the wave.
I have no idea if any of that is true, but it made sense and was certainly interesting. For Sonia’s sake let’s hope if there is a tsunami it doesn’t wash over Tonga and reach Quebec.

This sentence from your Wiki dictionary link would have come much closer to answering my question.
The term alludes to a preacher thumping his hand hard down on the lectern and the Bible on it to emphasize a point during a sermon.
So it’s basically all the pandering Democrat politicians that we see in the fire and brimstone Churches all during any election season or if they have been caught with the hired help. Why do you call then conservatives?
Of course doing weird things with lecterns would also describe Harry Reid on the Senate floor.

Okay, let me get this moonbat theory of yours straight. Bin Laden’s friends weren’t radicalized when they were hangin’ with the dude in Afghanistan, but come April 2003, it was like a magic jihad wand got waved and PRESTO they ended up in Iraq to cut off heads.

For the impaired liberal minds in here like, oh say 5:24, sometimes hyperbole is used in a sarcastic manner. It is recognizable to most people that read above the third grade level by the obvious nature of the point being bandied about.
So to keep the record straight I understand that finch did not say that his secret sources told him Fox was folding.
That being said I will return to speaking to the adults here. finch and his secret sources are wrong about the reason behind the ever so slight decline in the FNC numbers. The decline can be traced to their adoption of a liberal slant that began over a year ago as they began hiring a huge stable of liberal bombthrowers and reached critical mass with the outrageous “reporting” by Sheppard Smith during Katrina. They can go back to their roots or become part of the noise.
If finch’s secret sources were worth their salt they would be able to see that they have the cause and effect reversed, but as you can plainly see from other posts, finch and his secret sources rarely get anything right.

Finch on Rush - various notable quotables:
Rush was denying his problem until he couldn’t. And that “fallout from pain treatment” excuse is just crap. As getalife and AntiRadical both point out here, MDs in the US won’t overprescribe oxys. They’re scared of their licenses, arrests or worse.
Good ol’ Rush liked the high so much, he actively sought out out illegal ways to satisfy his cravings. There’s a clear pattern of chronic abuse. He’s a liar in denial and anyone who believes him is a sucker.
That NRO puff piece is an apologetic load of crap. Any article that describes Limbaugh’s “confession” as given (quote) “(w)ith characteristic candor and humility” cannot be taken seriously. You can’t use the words characteristic candor and humility in any sentence about Rush. Not with a straight face.
I once counseled addicts at a clinic. I know their tricks. And the NRO article portrays what a drug addict does best. Rationalize, externalize, and above all else, play the victim card with as many people as possible when the denial card no longer works.
Rush was almost certainly a junkie in 2001. He managed to hide it for 2 more years, which isn’t that unusual for an addict.
And yet his excusers still fall for his line of bull. He really needs to re-read his Big Book. The part about living a life that “demands rigorous honesty”. This bears repeating:
If he and his fans are smart, they’ll realize he was a two-faced junkie, more dishonest than most, who was a criminal but a victim, too. If they’re both dumb and think he’s being persecuted, that’s their shame.
Finch,
Do you listen to Rush, or is all this compassionate insight and expert knowledge obtained elsewhere?

I’ll just take the word of y’all who actually watch Fox news. I can’t take it myself. But having been an entertainment critic for over thirty years, I can tell you that news content is treated the same as entertainment programming. If the public doesn’t like it(as polling numbers clearly show), the suits pull it. Fox will move toward the center. Rupert will take it to the bank. Why do you think CNN has become the nativist network? The lynch mob angle sells. I wish somebody would deport Lou Dobbs. What a jingoist jerk!

For the thick headed liberals here like, oh say 6:53, Sheppard Smith was one of the many voices buying the whole blame Bush for every single thing that was happening while at the same time perpetuating the myth that mass murders and gang rapes were taking place in the Super Dome, armed gangs had control of the streets and were shooting rescue workers, and that there were sharks swimming down Canal St.
Before that we counted on Fox to rise above the stampede and find out if there was another side to their story, like maybe the truth.
Sorry getalife, a reporters job is to report the truth to the best of their ability and Sheppard Smith, for all the compassion he showed on the bridge, did not come close to fulfilling that duty.
I swear you moonbats are so eaten up with BDS that you would fall in love with Satan himself if he would just say “Bush Sucks.”

The ozone layer is showing signs of recovering, thanks to a drop in ozone-depleting chemicals, but it is unlikely to stabilize at pre-1980 levels, researchers said on Wednesday
Volcanic activity on Earth also has an impact. The 1993 Mount Pinatubo eruption in the Philippines caused ozone levels to backslide for several years, according to the researchers.
If the Dems could just conjure up a volcanic eruption they could blame Bush for that too.
They could start by renaming Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Katrina. Be prepared!

I don’t think much of anybody outside Miami cares anything about pre-Castro Cuba, Danish, so Gracia made a commercial mistake. As far as the politics are concerned, the Cuban are much better off under Castro. That’s not to say Castro is good. It is to say Batista was that much worse. He was a fascist monster, and the people had fewer civil liberties than they now have. Godfather II gives some good hints about life under Batista. Nighclubs then featured women having sex with animals-no kidding. I like Andy Garcia. He’s a skilled, charismatic actor. It’s also worth noting that Robert Redford made a movie about Cuba in 1990 when he was still big box office. It bombed too.

Inner tubes must have been really expensive in those days.
Despite the unprecedented economic prosperity of the 1950s, opposition parties like the Orthodox and the Autenticos managed to promote social unrest instigating university students to plant bombs and kill civilians and military personnel alike. Batista’s responded with repression of the subversives

China must not have any pinkos:
Even ANWR’s huge reserves pale compared to oil located throughout the waters of the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The Minerals Management Service (MMS) of the Department of Interior estimates that the OCS contains 76 billion barrels of oil in yet-to-be-discovered fields. That’s three and a half times U.S. proved oil reserves. Offshore oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico alone are estimated to be more than 40 billion barrels, much of it precluded from exploration by official U.S. policy. Compared to U.S. proved natural-gas reserves of 189 trillion cubic feet, the MMS estimates that the Gulf of Mexico alone holds more than 200 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered technically recoverable natural gas.
While celebrating their success in preventing American energy companies from exploring for oil and gas between Florida and Cuba, environmentalists and Florida politicians ought to contemplate China’s egregious environmental record as they look with horror at Chinese drilling rigs soon to be dispersed throughout Cuban waters less than 50 miles from the Florida coast.

In the coming days, our senators in Washington will have a chance to stand up with America’s doctors and patients against the personal injury lawyers. Expect a brawl. On one side will be the lawyers, frantically attempting to protect and pad their wallets, while driving up costs for the American people and limiting our access to health-care providers. On the other will be the positive, pro-patient, pro-health-care story from Texas, a state which has taken an important first step toward creating a 21st-century health justice system that meets the needs of doctors and patients alike.

A technology executive pleaded guilty to paying more than $400,000 in bribes to a congressman in charges stemming from an investigation of Rep. William Jefferson (Democrat-La.). Vernon Jackson, 53, chief executive of the Louisville, Ky.-based telecommunications firm iGate Inc., admitted to bribery of a public official and conspiracy to bribe a public official during a plea hearing in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. Court records make clear that the congressman whom Jackson admits bribing is Jefferson, who represents New Orleans in the House. The documents refer only to “Representative A.” The congressman has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing.
