Yeah, I’m sure Tony joined the Bush Administration because he wanted to wreck his career. He’s just like the voters are in November; a bunch of bluster, polls and noise all year and then pull the lever for the Republican column when the chips are down.
Welcome aboard, Snowman!

So much for us being a bunch of lockstep “Bushbots:”
Mr. Bush acknowledged yesterday that Mr. Snow is no administration parrot. “For those of you who’ve read his columns and listened to his radio show, he sometimes has disagreed with me. I asked him about those comments, and he said, ‘You should have heard what I said about the other guy.’”

None of the passengers is identified by name. There is no time for introductions. They not only share a sense of ultimate danger; they also share a sense of ultimate purpose. This is a value we like to think is, if not uniquely American, than a unique character trait of free people. These are Americans banding and bonding together in the sudden realization that they are part of an enormous event. There are no politicians leading them, no military officers commanding them. They more than rise to the occasion, they transcend it by doing the right thing and exemplifying true heroism.

We still don’t know if others will be charged, but meanwhile there is one aspect of McCarthy’s previous responsibilities well worth noting. Working in the CIA’s Inspector General’s office, she must have been involved in the bizarre referral of the Valerie Plame case to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. Clarice Feldman has demonstrated that leaking of Plame’s name could not have been a criminal act.
Oh what a tangled web we weave…

I probably shouldn’t trumpet this but I know the liberals are too stupid to do anything about it:
By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bush’s political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, a least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.
I’m going to be laughing my as-s off in November.

Thanks for the toon ML but this one goes in my cheap shot folder. When the President acts autonomously, he is criticized for not taking the advice of his counselors. When he takes advice, he is a puppet. Any incumbent is, of course, the target of criticism but we must question, “Is the criticism justified”?
Tony Snow is most assuredly a conservative voice but he has demonstrated a willingness to criticize the President in those instances in which he felt the President was wrong (me too). He is no mouthpiece. The willingness of the President to appoint such a man as the public face of his administration is commendable.
To suggest that the President is contolled by his appointees runs counter to his critics claims that the President is aloof and intractable. So what is it ML, is the President closed and unyielding or is he the puppet of his advisors. Having it both ways simply invalidates any criticism that is made of either position. How about, at least, presenting a consistent message.

Kerry was particularly incensed by criticism of the generals who recently called for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s firing. “We have even heard accusations that this dissent gives aid and comfort to the enemy. That line of attack is shameful, especially coming from those who have never worn the uniform.” It is disturbing to hear a Democrat, of all people, express a view as undemocratic as one arguing that certain arguments are off limits to “those who have never worn the uniform.”

Well at least some of the intelligent people on this board understood my posts yesterday. I was offering “Fair&Balanced”, but d******* failed to see that. They wouldn’t know fair & balanced if it smacked ‘em in the face. They watch too much MSM and choke on it.
I’d be willing to bet none of them read anything Snow said against the Democrats. Conservatives can take the heat, the lunatic left run and hide under other people’s names trying to rob everyone of their free speech. Pathetic losers, you have my pity but that’s it. No respect.
And to top it off, Bush got it too so the limping lunatic left can choke on that fact.

I wonder how long it will be until the White House announces an exclusive deal with Fox. Maybe the neocons will finally stop whining about the ‘liberal media’ now that’s it’s so obviously been proven a charade. Even if one conceeds a tendency to see both sides of the story in most news outlets which fanatical ideologues might find offensive, but there are no examples on the other side of the fence of an entire network being the bought-and-paid-for mouthpiece of not just a party, but a whole political movement as the relationship between Fox and the neocons so clearly has become. I’ve thought for some time that Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh are the same person. Maybe that’s also true of Roger Ailes and Dick Cheney. It just keeps getting sillier all the time, doesn’t it?

With Snow on the White House payroll it becomes official, it is owned by Fox. Another chip on the tombstone of the free press. With all the yip and yap about accusing Clinton of drug dealing and all the other scum isn’t it amazing what the neocons can get away with? Limbaugh and Oxycontin and Jeb’s daughter writing a prescription for her own drugs.I always thought that was illegal as all hell and would be for anyone not named Bush.

Those who believe that Conservatives always agree with Bush are spastic, knee jerk morons:
Something is terribly wrong when thousands of skilled engineers and doctors from Canada, India and Mexico cannot easily obtain legal citizenship, while those who cut ahead by the millions and cross the border illegally almost find it de facto.
If we controlled the borders in exchange for allowing current resident illegals to apply for citizenship, future legal and measured immigration from Mexico, while perhaps somewhat greater than from other countries, would cease to be either large or exceptional. The present perpetually replenished pool of aggrieved second-class unlawful residents would soon vanish.

Ironically, the people who are making the most noise about the high price of gasoline are the very people who have for years blocked every attempt to increase our own oil supply. They have opposed drilling for oil off the Atlantic coast, off the Pacific coast, or in Alaska. They have prevented the building of any new oil refineries anywhere for decades.
They have fought against the building of hydroelectric dams or nuclear power plants to generate electricity without the use of oil. They love to talk about their own pet “alternative energy sources,” without the slightest attention to what these would cost in terms of money, jobs, or our national standard of living.
Politicians have indulged these spoiled brats for generations. Now, when the chickens come home to roost, they are screaming about high prices and Big Oil. That is world class chutzpa.

When W said : “For those of you who have read his columns and listened to his radio show, you know he has sometimes disagreed with me,” Bush said. “I asked him about those comments, and he said, ‘You should have seen what I said about the other guy.’” “I like his perspective,” Bush told reporters.
I thought W’s laugh made it sound like this was some kind of a joke but nobody was laughing. I hope the man can lie well and it will not effect his health. It was good to see them run when reporters were screaming questions. Same old BS.

The Washington Post has some more good news from Iraq:
More important, the terrorist acknowledges that the agreement of Iraq’s leading Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish parties on the country’s first permanent postwar government last week was, as he bluntly put it, “a dagger in the heart.” The Zarqawi movement has spent the past several years trying to ignite a sectarian war between Iraq’s Sunnis and Shiites; the new “unity” government, if it takes hold, could be the turning point toward defeating that strategy.

More from Andy’s 7:52 -
Where Kerry and Kennedy go wrong is that they do not seem to understand that there is a clear line between pointing out specific wrongs and the hyperbolic, generalized slander they have grown too fond of. There is a difference between exposing the criminal behavior undertaken by a few soldiers at Abu Ghraib and maligning the entire military by saying it now manages torture chambers. There is a difference between exposing abuses committed by individual soldiers and claiming that American soldiers, as a matter of course, terrorize Iraqi women and children. And there is certainly a difference between disagreeing with military strategy and claiming, without proof, that that strategy was chosen because of fraud and advanced through bribery.
To paraphrase Kerry: those lines of attack are shameful, especially coming from men who wore the uniform.

Good ‘toon’ we’ll see how it goes. In a nation beguiled by an administration that “Stockholmed” a willing press, by imbedding it with the military, most don’t really look to the press for much more than words of assurance, hence the incessant whining from the right about the liberal media and it’s refusal to report the “good” news, and from the left that the media help to cover up the sins of Bush. Either way you shake it, it would seem that for most persons the media seems always to support the other side, so at any given time a good deal of what it publishes probably isn’t believed, by a good deal of the population it purports to inform.

Glad to see the discussion is civil in here today. I took the time to write to the AJC (as many have before) to request that this blog be converted to a sign-in basis that would allow only one log-in per IP address at a time. This simple action would solve a great many problems with nic-jacking and would facilitate more open and HONEST dialogue between the bloggers here. I invite anyone who will, to do the same. Maybe if the AJC gets enough suggestions they will act.
I have reached my own tolerance level and will abandon this venue until better control measures are implemented. I hope the AJC acts to secure the integrity of this board and that one day we can all enjoy some truely open and HONEST dialogue. They will be more inclined to do so if their postings begin to fall off. Until that time, participation here is the equivalent of cyber masturbation (entertainment value but quickly unsatisfying to an adult), anyway.
My appreciation goes out to all those who have engaged in constructive debate here and raspberries to those whose goal is to silence open discussion. Very soon the only person they will have left to shut up will be themselves. I doubt that such experience will be as satisfying to them as silencing others has been, however. Good life to all.

The cost of the war in Iraq will reach $320 billion after the expected passage next month of an emergency spending bill currently before the Senate, and that total is likely to more than double before the war ends, the Congressional Research Service estimated this week.
The analysis… provides the most official cost estimate yet of a war whose price tag will rise by nearly 17 percent this year.
Egads! Paul Wolfowitz was so wrong!! He must be punished! Let’s give him a medal and get him a job as President of the World Bank. He’s got a real knack for numbers. Like these:

MEXICO CITY - U.S. lobbyists lashed out Wednesday at the Mexican “Nothing Gringo” campaign timed for May 1 to coincide with the “Day Without Immigrants” boycott in the United States.
Mexicans’ refusal to “buy American” on May 1 could further polarize the debate and make reform supporters seem anti-American at the very moment that lobbyists are trying to persuade lawmakers in Washington to pass a bill that would benefit migrants, worries Larry Rubin, the chamber’s president.
Poor Larry is worried. Gosh, all his little lovies might have to leave the country they want to boycott because we want them to obey the law. Such sorrow, such pity.

sAndy,
During the Fall ratings period, Air America Radio says its flagship station, WLIB/1190 AM made gains with various shows. Specifically - in Men, 25-54 (3 - 7 p.m.) - “The Randi Rhodes Show,” received a 3.3 Share against WABC’s Sean Hannity, who received a 3.0 share. (Hannity’s program airs from 3-6 p.m.) In New York, Al Franken is heard Noon until 3 p.m. on WLIB and Bill O’Reilly’s show airs 2 - 4 p.m on WOR so they actually only go head-to-head for one hour. But, during that overlapping hour of 2 - 3 p.m., “The Al Franken Show” pulled in a 2.3 share of Persons 12+ where O’Reilly earned a 2.1. Also, in adults 25-54 during the same period, Franken had a 2.3 share and O’Reilly a 0.8. From Here

Musty,
Please defend the flip-floppityness of the Shrub.
To wit:
President Bush will order the Department of Energy to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Oil Reserve “in order to get more fuel on the market and help reduce rising gasoline prices.”
In September 2000, then-Gov. George W. Bush criticized President Clinton for proposing to use the strategic oil reserve in response to high prices: The Strategic Reserve is an insurance policy meant for a sudden disruption of our energy supply or for war. Strategic Reserve should not be used as an attempt to drive down oil prices right before an election. It should not be used for short-term political gain at the cost of long-term national security.
Today, Bush did precisely what he criticized President Clinton for five-and-a-half years ago.

I see that the semi-literate who could not construct a response to a straightforward question has hijacked my name and posted the following silliness:

Well, give an argument, under your real name. I doubt you can and one wonders what kind of character one possesses to post in another’s name.
On the most optimistic scenarios “ANWR as an oil solution” is no solution. Reliable experts say that only 3%-7% of current oil use could be met for a period of ten years by allowing drilling. Leaving aside any environmental issues, it is at best, a very small part of the solution.
So, I will pose the question again.
What solutions do you propose for energy dependency? No name calling, personal attacks, fragments from a right wing link. Just an argument for a policy in your own words. Civil, respectful, and convincing to an open minded, impartial, rational, objective person.

The map you showed, no matter how you (or more precisely the U of Michigan) want to color it, still made YOU the losers. You lost the popular (which doesn’t count for much) and electoral (which does count) vote.
Apparently the Republican Congress is foolishly taking your belief, that you have to aim for the middle, to heart. The problem is that they are losing their base every time they panic and try to pander to wankers like you who didn’t vote for them in the first place.

TurdBlossom, Jr.,
I’ll try this one last time.
Yes. Election Day is a pretty important day. It’s so important that the votes that are cast on that one day in time determine who will represent us in various roles at all levels of government. There are lots of things that lead up to that day - speeches, conventions, primary elections, debates, advertisements, 3rd party advertisements, news reports, polls, etc. - that try to influence how people cast their vote.
However, it all comes down to one day, one specific point in time, a snapshot if you will, that determines who wins and who loses.
The maps represent the result of the vote which is the result of votes case on one day in time.
How hard is that for you to grasp TBJ?
By Hiram

Breakfast Treat,
Please share the Arbitron ratings. I’d like to see something other than what was posted to Drudge.
I don’t claim the map I linked showed anything other than reality - a Bush win. It does show that, however absolutly you want to put it, this country is not overwelmingly one or the other.
There are pockets of strength for each party but these are more than canceled out by great majority of America that falls into the middle. Neither party can win without appealing to the practical and reasonable center of the country.
Thanks for the namecalling. Keep it up. As I said before, each bit of bile that you spew, helps my side in the battle for the middle.

Energy Policy for Pequod:
Develop Ethanol based fuels, most cars on the road today can take up to 15% ethanol.
Restart nuclear reactor production for home energy.
Require higher efficiency for new home construction (windows, insulation, heat+air)
Research coal based gasoline, Germany did it in the 30s, we should be able to handle this one.
Explore the posibility of opening up federal run refineries to produce gasoline at cost. Seeing how the oil companies are asking for federal money for them anyway, watch how quickly they find ways to come into compliance and open up new refineries when the option of a federally run refinery producing at 0 profit comes up.

So is there a problem with the amt of refineries in the country or not. If there is it is obvious the free market did not do it’s job. And the free market is not really all that free if the oil companies are demanding federal subsidies before building new refineries. I know you may have taken an economics class or two but just to let you in on a secret, the oil companies are federally subsidized, so any free market arguements are out the window.
What would be your suggestion as to opening up more refineries, let me guess, scrap all the EPA regulations?

At the expense of the little party that has been going on today here….
House Republicans, divided over how to control special interest spending, struggled Thursday to save a lobbying overhaul bill. At stake was an election-year promise to do something about scandals that have sullied the reputation of Congress. “This is the acid test today,” said Rep. Fred Flake, R-Ariz., who joined other fiscal conservatives in demanding that the legislation address the issue of earmarks, the pet projects often pushed by lobbyists that work their way into larger bills.

I liked your link, but it seems like most of his info is outdated. Interest rates are rising, but that is primarily because they were artificially lowered far below where they should have been. The dollar is getting weaker by the day, and our stability so far as debt goes is becoming less attractive to foriegn investors, without them, no one will buy our debt. The problem with so much of our debt being owned by foriegn investors is that if they own a large enough share, they can manipulate our economy. A large portion of that debt is owned by the government of China, I have heard estimates of up to 25% of our total debt. If this foriegn government decides to sell off our debt, our dollar would be crushed, inflation would skyrocket, and interest rates would spike. I do not like giving that much control to a foriegn government

rushncap,
The “straight shooter,” “I just like him; he’s a regular guy,” “I just feel he’s right” mentality is an extension of the right’s obsession with “faith.” Faith is the equivalent of a void of reason, the literal opposite of logic. Conservatives have pride in the fact that they do things and believe things for no rational reason whatsoever, or in other words, “have faith.” It is amazing to me that in this century, the last superpower, the greatest country the world has ever seen operates with the majority of its citizens relying on archaic, third-world beliefs to guide them. That’s why Bush will always keep his 25-30% approval rating- because those are the people who will continue to have “faith” in his leadership, no matter how much evidence piles up to indicate that he has been a failure and a pox on humanity.

rushncap:
When George Bush spoke of his ownership society, I interpreted that to mean that those who presently could not afford homes, start their own business, etc. would have the opportunity to do so with low interest rates, government assistance in financing. And yes, with tax cuts. That has been accomplished by many. I believe that the man wants to see all people prosper. He believes that creates a healthier society in which to live.
I would expand on his thought to say that I took it to mean that we would each own the consequences of either succeeding or failing. That seems like a great motivator to me. There is compassion that instills pride in the recipient and then there is compassion that instills pride in the giver. I think that the recipient should be allowed to experience that pride.
The NCLB was a fiasco, but then I never thought it would be successful, but it was an effort on his part to enhance on the quality of education. I think school systems have been irresponsible in their administration of the program and that contributes a lot to it’s failure. I think Bush has too much confidence that mankind will do the right thing, but I can’t fault him for that. In that respect, I am smarter than him.
Like I said, I’m no economist so I won’t even try to act like I am. War is expensive and I’ve already covered that with RE.
I refuse to buy into conspiracy theories that George Bush is helping big oil. He cannot care so much in some respects for the well-being of others ^^^ “compassionate conservative” and be as evil and devious as conspiracy theorists claim.
In regards to the military. We will never have another draft, although I think that some of todays wayward youth would benefit. We will have to compensate in someway for the shortage in manpower in our military. Don’t isolate the changes to Iraq only. We are in the midst of globalization. The world will never be what it used to be or what we would like it to be. That requires that we think in newer and more modern ways. I remember when the war began, they did not want to send any more troops than were necessary, something that liberals would support. But now those same people are complaining that we didn’t send enough. That kind of thinking makes me question their motives.
I’m a very patient person. I don’t expect my miracles immediately. I do believe that if we remain in Iraq we may see a miraculous change in an area that has been in turmoil forever. Some of the governments in the middle east have changed. It is now time for the people to change. They won’t do that without a hopeful future, one that they never had before. Bush has offered them that.
I like a man that doesn’t pander to the polls or party. I don’t like politicians but they are necessary. When I look on this board sometimes, there is no way in hell we could do it without them but we can cast our votes for the philosophies that we believe in.
I really believe that his public profession of faith is what sent liberals spinning from day one. I do not believe that the man has any intention of shoving faith down the throats of Americans. I am not a fan of fanatical ministers like Falwell and Robertson. Never have been. I think they have done Bush a terrible disservice with their support. Nobody has to be afraid of us. We’re not after your souls. We would like to attend to ours freely though.
That’s it. That’s @@ like it or not.

@@, I don’t have time for a long post. So here are a few points:
Your post is, again, long on abstractions and short on actual accomplishments.
Affording homes: the home ownership rate under Bush went up. Just like it did under Clinton No more, no less, really. Except the prices are now pretty much sky high, so their affordability is actually much lower.
How is the “oil” thing a conspiracy? He spent most of his adult life in that business, his family earns large amounts of money from that business. That’s public knowledge. You don’t think the fact that his personal fortune largely depends on oil revenue affects any decisions? Maybe not overtly, but I’d bet there is an effect.
Military: classic example of $hit or get off the pot. If you’re gonna wage an unnecessary war based on a lie, at least make sure to do it right. This way he managed both to go to war for all the wrong reasons AND bungle the war so badly that 3 years later the place is still largely a war zone. And, btw, I blame Democrats for being spineless on this one. I really do.
The man does not listen to polls. You are right. But that’s one way of putting it. Another way is: he does not respond to what people want. There is a fine line between the two. He was not, after all elected to “rule” but to “govern”, even if some neocons are ready to start making golden idols of him.

It is amazing to me that in this century, the last superpower, the greatest country the world has ever seen operates with the majority of its citizens relying on archaic, third-world beliefs to guide them.
OOTMVOD,
Andy very intelligently brought up Al Qaeda and their caves. May I add the U.N., which is run by Third World dictators who are operating with archaic beliefs.
Among those arcaic beliefs are these ideas that the Left still clings to with SO much passion:
Marxism. Socialism. Political Correctness (part of Marxism). Radical Environmentalism. Secularism. Multi-culturalism. Nihilism. Pacifism. Social relativism. Anti-Semitism.
Those are just some of the old and archaic isms - right off the top of my head we can add “Anti-Americanism” as a newer creed.

Wow, that was just SO clever. Sheesh.
Fact remains (I know, I know, you haaaaate facts, they cramp your style), he was illegally buying drugs, one step above buying crack on the street.
I don’t hate facts at all. I love them. Use them all the time. I’ll use some right now:
The FACT is that what you are saying are based on unproven and untried allegations from the Palm Beach D.A.’s office. The allegation is that he was “Doctor Shopping”. The FACT is that only ONE, count it ONE, person has ever been tried in Palm Beach (or possibly all of Florida) for “Doctor Shopping”.
It would be kind of like charging consenting adults with sodomy (that is an example you might be able to relate to since you claim to be Mr. Pure who never even smoked weed, but are proud of being Mr. Sexually liberated rushncap).
I’m not judging his drug use, I don’t care.
You DO care or you wouldn’t have brought it up. You always play this stupid, childish little game where you bring a subject up and then you eventually declare that you “don’t care”. Could you be anymore bratty?
I’m judging his hypocricy, and yours
No hypocrisy from me since I really DON’T care, and as I said ^^, you will not be able to find even the smallest iota of evidence that I do.
Let me clarify that a bit. I care in the sense that I think addiction is a terrible, destructive thing. I don’t blame people who become addicted to legally prescribed drugs, whether it be oxycontin or hospital prescibed morphine.
I am a bit less sympathetic to people who become addicted to street drugs, but even then it is not a big issue for me unless it adds to crime, out of wedlock births that irreparably harm children (and I get stuck paying for as a taxpayer), or if the addiction causes other blights on society at large. Which it usually does as very few people live in a vacuum, but in theory I don’t care what people do with their own lives.
However, if a dealer came anywhere near my kid I’d nail them to the wall without mercy, but that’s different.

I wish I could agree with you there, but I do not. Some governments there have changed, but IMO not for the better. Iraq’s just a different kind of hell, Lebanon’s still dominated by Hezbollah, and Hamas makes Fatah look downright peaceful in Palestine. Syria’s a cipher, Saudia Arabia’s still Wahhabi-land, and Iran? Well, we know about Iran…
rushncap is SO right when he says that when it came to the US invasion of Iraq it was $-hit or get off the pot… and the US did neither. The Persian Gulf situation is now worse than it would have been had we done nothing except play the diplomacy card. Bush and Rumsfeld talked “shock and awe”. Unfortunately, they did neither.

This one last post and then I think I’ll watch some T.V.
If home ownership went up under Bush after going up under Clinton then great. The more homeowners the merrier. Homeownership for minorities has increased. I think that’s great. Mortgage rates have gone up because the economy is doing great so the Federal Reserve has raised rates 14 times in an effort to slow it down. Some people chose to finance with an ARM to buy more house for the money. That will be something that they will regret when the rates go up. That was an individual decision though. One of those consequences that people should learn from.
Oil thing: NO
Military: I don’t think the war is going as badly as you do. I have a feeling that if Bush were to send more troops to appease everyone, it would be the first thing the public would scream about as well as the Democrats and I think he is too smart to fall into that trap. I have visited some poll sites. It seems the military (troops) feel that the numbers are adequate. I’ll listen to them.
Polls: If you respond to what people want then you are pandering and going against what you have committed to do. I wouldn’t want him to pander. Then he would be going against what I want him to do. I don’t idolize the man, just respect him for his committment to follow through. There are way too many special interest groups out there who have a narrow agenda. You’ll never be able to make all the people happy all the time. The electoral college was founded because people don’t always know what’s best. We just think we do. If people were so smart, then they wouldn’t be financing their homes with an adjustable rate mortgage now would they.

I have to state that overall your “cartoons” discust me. How someone who draws cartoons can believe that they somehow are much more intellegent than our President, or even a janitor, is beyond me. But for me I think that the pinnical of it all has to be your WHY “cartoon” that I heard about on NPR. How you had to ask why these soldiers had to die. Why did our government send these soldiers to give their lives? You MIGHT have had a clue if you had instead inserted the names of the innoscent dead American citizens in the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93 in the letters W H Y. But then you probably have already come to the conclusion that these people were killed because of our evil empire and that it is our fault. People like you give hard working Americans that get up every day and go out and build houses, repair cars, clean buildings, stock shelves, and all the other “simple” jobs a bad name. At least they contribute to our society. All you do is cloud your hatred for the United States in some stupid cartoon like the one you were awarded for and the others on this web site. How really insignificant you are compaired to just one fallen soldier that at least gave their lives protecting and defending your right to tear down this country with your pathetic simple cartoons. I hope you live long enough to grow up. I would challenge you to go to Iraq and spend just one day with our troops and then see if you can’t find out WHY. Anti is a prefix meaning against. When I see citizens protesting a war while we fight it, burning the flag, using any pretense or lies to intimidate the president, drawing the president to look like a dog among other things, even visiting other countries speaking against the USA—-I call that anti-Americanism. But you don’t see it, do you? Would you say that you are “pro_American” when you like nothing about our country but your freedom?

If you want to parse this further, fine: Are you saying that archaic third world beliefs made us a superpower? Or that the majority of us are losers but YOU are an member of the elite and know better than the peons? But surely that would not put you in the majority…
I don’t think that second half of your statement is true at all, but I get the idea you are trying to imply that we conservatives are ignorant trailer trash. Right or wrong?

When America makes mistakes it is our job to correct them. THAT is patriotism. Singing songs and slapping on bumperstickers is a cheap imitation thereof. When you love something, you want it to be the best it can be. And yes, if the president is harming this country, which he is, it is most certainly patriotic to question him, ridicule him, lampoon him, and attempt to do good despite him. Finch re:10:21- I don’t know if I can actually put any blame about the Hamas thing on the war in Iraq or Pres Bush. That had more to do with Palestinian domestic problems than the US. Fatah had done nothing that Palestinians saw as positive, while they allowed corruption in their own ranks (you know basic third world politics). The outcome of those democratic elections took everyone by surprise, Palestinians didn’t really vote for Hamas, but rather against Fatah and their corruption. Do we like the result of Hamas being in power? no. But by all accounts it was a clean election, and in my opinion the result was not due to anything that the US did.
Now, the fact that we are obviously forced to take a strong stance against a Hamas gov’t is unfortunate, since now Iran is going to become their ‘sugar daddy’ and that, is dangerous. I know this is basically hoping for bad things on the backs of innocent Palestinians; but the best thing that could happen is if Hamas fails miserably as the leading power in Palestine. Before they were always the muscle that talked a big game, but now they actually have to do thing and gov’t and if they fail. I think it would move public support back to moderate political parties in that country.
Or maybe I’m just thinking too much into it, and we are all going to die in the next two years in nuclear war between Iran and Israel. Either way I still have to go to work tomorrow :)

Dusty, I have no inferiority complex. For instance, I’m pretty sure I’m better than you. Happy?
I don’t do angry tirades. I do posts which make you shut up and simply attack my character because you cannot attack my facts. Sucks to be you. My congratulations to your family. I’m glad you’re not part of mine. Mine is actually decent.

Absynthe is pretty nasty stuff. Especially home-made absynthe. It knocks you on your a$s, finch, I would really recomment a full stomach and some loyal friends if you want to drink it. I’ve had it a few times, and, lemme tell ya, I do not remember much of those nights.
And if you really want to get on my good side, get me some Laphroaig or Talisker. I’d love you forever for that.

Then amnesia set in, MPG ratings disappeared from TV ads and we became “a country of a million Walter Mittys driving 75 mph in their gas-guzzling Bushwhack-Safari sport-utility roadsters with a moose head on the hood, a country whose crude oil production has dropped 32 percent in the last 25 years but which will not drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for fear of disturbing the mating habits of caribou.”
I wrote that during the ‘96 witch hunt for price gougers.
That would be Charles Krauthammer correctly dancing on the sissy “ANWR won’t make a difference” crowd.
And for all you “China owns us!” pantywaists, ANWR could keep $75,000,000.00 a day of our money right here in America. I wonder why the left puts “Caribou Mating Patterns” above that?
How much more obvious can it be that the left wants the United States gone from the picture? They’re bleeding us to death.

What a deciderer that President Bush is! He and his deciderees conjure up an Iraq invasion they promise will strike a mortal blow to terror, AND IT DOES JUST THE OPPOSITE!:
WASHINGTON (CNN) — The State Department’s annual terrorism report finds that Iraq is becoming a safe haven for terrorists and has attracted a “foreign fighter pipeline” linked to terrorist plots, cells and attacks throughout the world, a senior State Department official involved in the preparation of the report told CNN.
The report, to be released Friday, also says terrorist groups loosely associated with al Qaeda present the greatest threat to the United States and the world, even greater than al Qaeda itself.
This is the sign of a true moron. A pathological idiot. Or maybe Bush is really evil. With a plan costing hundreds of billions of US dollars and thousands of US lives, he’s created a terror monster.
Osama must be beside himself with glee. Bush, the great deciderer has given him the best recruiting and training system ever!
How much more obvious that the right wants to see the US gone from the picture?

Short attention span theater, starring George W. Bush, the great deciderer:
While on the campaign trail in 2000, Bush told President Bill Clinton how to handle OPEC, in public no less. “What I think the president ought to do,” he said, “is he ought to get on the phone with the OPEC cartel and say we expect you to open your spigots.”
(Audience nods in approval. Of course Bush’s OPEC buddies would jump thru hoops for him!)
“OPEC has gotten its supply act together,” Bush advised listeners, “and it’s driving the price, like it did in the past.”
“And,” he said in direct advice to Clinton, “the president of the United States must jawbone OPEC members to lower the prices.”
(LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE from audience!)
Since Bush took office, gas prices have increased 62.5% from $1.44 per gallon in January 2001 to $2.34 in March 2006.
And now it’s pushing $3.00 a gallon.
Bush is going down as the worst President in history. Everything he touches turns to filth.
How much more obvious that Bush and his pie-eyed backers want to see the US gone from the picture?

Seekling: Osama must be beside himself with glee. Actually, he’s in a cave somewhere, glee is like a secondary concern of his. Sorry to break your heart, I know you want your hero to be the king.
What has the president have to do with domestic oil production obstruction by the democrats? Shouldn’t we be the ones turning open the spigots?

More from Charles Krauthammer (the brilliant Conservative I’m proud to have on my side of the aisle):
Add to that the mischief of idiotic new regulations. Last year’s energy bill mandates arbitrary increases in blended ethanol use that so exceed current ethanol production that it is causing gasoline shortages and therefore huge price spikes.
*Why don't we import the missing ethanol? Brazil makes a ton of it and very cheaply. Answer: The Iowa caucuses. Iowa grows corn and chooses presidents. So we have a ridiculously high 54-cent ethanol tariff and ethanol shortages.* *Other regulation requires specific ("boutique'') gasoline blends for different cities depending on their air quality. Nice idea. But it introduces debilitating rigidities into the gasoline supply system. If Los Angeles runs short, you cannot just move supply in from Denver. You get shortages and more price spikes.* *And don't get me started on the missing supply of might-have-been American crude. Arctic and Outer Continental Shelf oil that the politicians kill year after year would have provided us by now with a critical and totally secure supply cushion in times of tight markets.*Hey! Instead of boycotting Exxon Mobil as an oft-forwarded email is suggesting, why don’t we boycott Iowan corn? Then to show our solidarity with Brazil we should start drinking Caipirinhas

Seeker,
First, before the Dems try to spin it that because of Bush terrorist acts are up around the world, let’s get this out in the open now:
The official said the incidence of terrorist acts tallied in this year’s report will be up significantly because of new congressional legislation mandating that domestic acts of terrorism be counted as well.
For example, deaths as a result of sectarian attacks among Iraq’s ethnic groups will be counted, as will around 30,000 kidnappings by Maoists in Nepal.
(As an aside, don’t you just love Maoists).
Now to the meat of the matter:
An Al Qaeda-esque group bombed a tourist resort in Egypt last week. Was that Bush’s fault too?
The idea that Muslims are being “further radicalized” because of our presence in Iraq is an opinion which I find laughable. Radicalized muslims are nothing new - we are just paying attention now - decades too late.
How much more radical can a bunch of people who think that their religion mandates that statues and ancient relics must be destroyed be? Or that believes in female circumcision? Or that teaches Muslim youth in Europe that its okay to rape infidels or Muslim women who aren’t sufficiently restrained in their dress? Or that is conducting genocide (and slavery) in Darfur? Or that teaches its people that Jews are pigs and monkeys? Or that teaches them that death and having sex with virgins (those lucky girls) is preferable to life? Or that hires children to blow themselves up in the name of Allah (thanks in part to the generosity of Saddam Hussein)? Or that teaches its believers that it is their duty to lie to infidels? Et cetera, et cetera.
But thanks to the Left we’ve been told that we can’t judge other religions and cultures because no one is better than anyone else. And if that culture and religion attacks the U.S., all the better because we deserve it.
Indeed, I give some of the conclusions reached by this State Department report about as much credence as I give to people who think that by raising taxes on Big Oil it will lower the price at the pump.
Finally, Bush has said all along that it is better to fight them on their home turf than here at home. If you believe the report, then isn’t that exactly what is happening?

Seeker,
Why don’t you try reading Charles Krauthammer instead of pontificating on a subject you don’t know squat about? You are ignoring all the reasons why oil prices are up.
Please explain to me how increasing taxes on Big Oil will make it cheaper for us to buy gas at the pump.
And can I put you in the YES column for drilling in ANWR??
Can I put you in the NO column for boutique fuels?
Can I put you in the YES column for easing regulations to permit more refineries to be built?
Can I put you in the NO column decades ago when the Left insisted that we stop using nuclear power?
I’m ready for your excuses and brilliant hindsight.

Buy Danish, I agree with most of Krauthammer’s points. Surprise. Especially when Charles berates all the Americans buying 3 ton Monster Exploder SUVs. But that has NOTHING to do with idiot savant Bush claiming that all it would take is a phone call to OPEC and poof! oil prices would drop. And this moron is running the country??
I also agree that Muslim fanatics are dangerous for promoting female circumcision, Darfur genocide, suicide bombings and so on.
But as the State Department proves, idiot savant Bush is helping Osama and his followers to focus the Muslim rabble on a single enemy. The Great Satan. America. US!! Terror recruitment is up! Training bases expand! Bush has transformed the US into their Evil Empire enemy. He has united them.
If he’d stuck with cleaning up Afghanistan and killing Osama, instead of mindlessly concentrating on WMD and Al Qaeda free Iraq, he would have successfully cut off Medusa’s head and WE’D BE SAFE!!!
Ignoring Medusa’s head has allowed the head to grow new snakes. It’s growing new snakes every day. All these snakes want to kill us.
Bush is an idiot. You and his supporters are idiots.

Seeker,
The NCTC report is the one that matters, not the State Department’s:
The NCTC’s deeper review, along with the U.S.-led war in Iraq, are “the primary reasons for the significant growth in the number of terrorist incidents being reported,” Brennan said. “This increase in the number of incidents being reported today does not necessarily mean there has been a growth in actual terrorist incidents.
“The data you will see today represents a break from previous years, and the numbers can’t be compared to previous years in any meaningful way,” he said.
And golly, I’m so amazed that - The point was made to congressional staffers last week, Brennan said, but has not been reflected in the media.
Creation of the NCTC was recommended in July 2004 by the 9/11 commission, and President Bush established the center in August by executive order.
State Department Counselor Philip Zelikow told reporters Wednesday that his agency was deferring to the NCTC as the government’s “primary organization for analysis and integration” of terrorism intelligence as called for in the intelligence overhaul passed by Congress in December 2004.

One other thing this cartoon makes clear is that the merger of Fox “News” and the Bush White House is now official.
