Good toon. The far right is unquestionably destroying the ability of the Republican party to field moderate candidates. Moderates don’t run the largest deficit our country has ever seen or involve us in regional conflicts that have no end (only Conservatives do). Moderates no longer have a place in the Republican party. McCain should abandon the party that abandoned him in 2000.

OF THE MOST DISINGENUOUS, or simply ignorant, charges that were leveled prior, during, and following the spring 2003 invasion of Iraq was that the war was conceived to rob the Iraqis of their oil reserves. This imprudent accusation has largely disappeared (It’s alive and well here in the moonbat nation) because few have the audaciousness to carry on this conspiratorial paranoia. However, the administration’s reluctance to become thoroughly engaged in the Iraqi oil industry — a result of domestic and foreign critics — has made things unnecessarily difficult for the Washington and Baghdad alike. Put simply, the Bush administration needs to focus more on Iraq’s oil.

One of the first actions taken by the United States following the ouster of Saddam Hussein was the nearly immediate transfer of sovereignty of Iraq’s oil industry back to the people of Iraq. Even after handing the key to nation’s wealth back to Iraqis, the United States has sought little influence in oil policy-making decisions.

The Wrong Time to Lose Our Nerve- A response to Messrs. Buckley, Will and F*******.

BY PETER WEHNER Opinion Journal Tuesday, April 4, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT

A small group of current and former conservatives—including George Will, William F. Buckley Jr. and Francis F*******—have become harsh critics of the Iraq war. They have declared, or clearly implied, that it is a failure and the president’s effort to promote liberty in the Middle East is dead—and dead for a perfectly predictable reason: Iraq, like the Arab Middle East more broadly, lacks the democratic culture that is necessary for freedom to take root. And so for cultural reasons, this effort was flawed from the outset. Or so the argument goes.

Let me address each of these charges in turn.

I’m pretty sure we can start talking about the race card “credibility gap” now:

Meanwhile, African-American clergy and elected officials rallied to support the six-term congresswoman at an Atlanta church. And in an appearance on CNN with her lawyers, McKinney again contended that she was the victim of a white police officer’s racial bias.

Crimes against homosexuals, blacks, or the homeless are big news to be dramatized, repeated, and denounced. Crimes committed by homosexuals, blacks, or the homeless are not — and are often passed over in silence by much of the media. The net result is that the public gets filtered facts, which can create an impression the direct opposite of the truth.

Those who are in the business of teaching the young, whether in the public schools or on college campuses, too often see this not as a responsibility to pass on what is known but as an opportunity to indoctrinate students with their own beliefs. Many “educators” and the gurus who indoctrinated them actively disparage “mere facts,” which they say you can get from an almanac or encyclopedia.

On Feb. 3, the Defense Department issued its quadrennial report on defense strategy. It was 92 pages long. The Democrats’ plan —“Real Security: The Democratic Plan to Protect America and Restore Our Leadership in the World” — is six pages long. Half of these repeat in Spanish what was said in English. And there is a cover page in each language. So the actual “plan” is just two pages long, presented in bullet points in large type, with plenty of white space between them. Party elders must have burned the midnight oil for months to produce this opus.

The first pledge Democrats make is to “Rebuild a state-of-the-art military by making the needed investments in equipment and manpower so that we can project power to protect America wherever and whenever necessary.”

Plus, it’s a bald faced lie. The last pinko to hold the president’s office cut the budget like a butcher with a side of beef. They didn’t provide our brave soldiers with body armor or up armored vehicles. The Republicans had to fix all that. Why not just skip the middle man this time?

Mike: Great toon! More power to ya!

Liberals Suck: You are CLEARLY AN IDIOT. “The last pinko to hold the president’s office cut the budget like a butcher with a side of beef. They didn’t provide our brave soldiers with body armor or up armored vehicles. The Republicans had to fix all that.”

I so hate to remind you of this, but the President does NOT create the budget—he approves or vetos. (well if you’re Bush, he approves) The REPUBLICAN CONGRESS was in charge of the budget at the time. Just like they are now, when soldiers are buying their own body armor.

Also, do you trust the Council on Foreign Relations, the group many “pinkos” claim to be conspiracy fodder? From Clinton’s Strong Defense Legacy: The Clinton administration, so the thinking goes, presided over an excessive downsizing of the U.S. military, seriously weakening the magnificent fighting machine built by Ronald Reagan and honed by George H.W. Bush……This assessment, however, is wrong….the military it helped produce achieved impressive successes in Bosnia and Kosovo and, more significant, in Afghanistan and Iraq.

From Souldrifts link.

The issue on both continents, say economists, is the flexibility of labor markets. It’s not a slogan on marchers’ signs. But the question of flexibility - whether it’s measured in pink slips, green cards, or the minimum wage - distinguishes the American economy from many European ones.

Reading all the way to the end of the article………..

“That’s because it enables American businesses, and their employees, to profit from changing opportunities.”

“Millions of workers lost jobs last year, but those shifts allowed the economy to redeploy capital to more-productive uses. And in the end, the new jobs created outnumbered the ones lost by more than 2 million, says Ms. Furchtgott-Roth. “The American economy is very dynamic.”

Just trying to avoid the “progressive” mistakes of others. It’s hard work!

Gingrich pioneered a denial of adultery that some observers would later christen “the Newt Defense”: Oral sex doesn’t count. In a revealing psychological portrait of the “inner” Gingrich that appeared in Vanity Fair (September 1995), Gail Sheehy uncovered a woman, Anne Manning, who had an affair in Washington in 1977 with a married Gingrich.

“We had oral sex,” Manning revealed. “He prefers that modus operandi because then he can say, ‘I never slept with her.’” She added that Gingrich threatened her: “If you ever tell anybody about this, I’ll say you’re lying.”

Manning was then married to a professor at West Georgia, the backwater college where Gingrich taught. “I don’t claim to be an angel,” she told Sheehy, but “he’s morally dishonest.”

Gingrich refused to comment on Manning’s charges, though he has admitted sexual indiscretions during his first marriage — hey, it was the ’70s, man! But Newt’s oral sex denial proved embarrassing at a time when he was the secular leader of the “family values” crowd, appearing frequently at Christian Coalition gatherings.

Since Gingrich has such a Clintonian definition of what sex IS, he was probably truely never guilty of adultery. Depends on what your definition of IS is.

LSL, Buy Danish, RW, @@, et al,

I just wanted to thank you all for having more faith in me than, well, myself. You were the only people left in the country who still believed that I was not one of the main propagators of the current Republican culture of corruption (along w/ Abramoff, Rove, etc.). There will always have to be Neanderthals who deny that the earth is round, that it revolves around the sun, that evolution took place, that going to war in Iraq was a huge mistake, that Christian fundamentalists are hypocrites, and that Republican corruption is rampant. Even I know these all to be intrinsic truths; I just lie about them. With myself gone, Rove about to be indicted, and Rumsfeld wallowing in disgrace, there aren’t many targets left, except for Bush, of course. And he can’t go anywhere. So I guess prepare yourselves for impeachment proceedings when we lose both the House and Senate next year. Well, it’s been nice lying to the American people, stealing, cheating, and selling my votes. Unfortunately, we traitorous Republicans seem to be a disappearing breed, but you can find solace in the fact that we still count the commander in chief in our ranks. Thanks for all your support.

McCain’s pandering is inexcusable. I used to like the guy, and not just because he was my neighbor.

I can see it now… the worst possible scenario for 2008. McCain runs under the GOP banner; Hillary is the flagbearer for the Democrats, and on election day, millions of Americans either stay home or vote for some 3rd party longshot.

By The Other Pirate

April 4, 2006 09:40 AM | Link to this

McCain’s timing is perpetually his downfall. He is now pandering to the far right when the country is finally becoming aware of the real ageanda of the “values” politicians. It’s the conservatine doublespeak- “Clear Skies” means pollute as much as possible; “No Child Left Behind” means leave thousands of them behind; “Having Values” means spreading corruption. At the rate that citizens are defecting from the Republican party, renouncing conservative beliefs, and condemning the action of the administration, McCain may be gathering a few evangelical (extremist fanatic) votes, but he’s ensuring that he’ll never be president. The fact that Bush is Bush and won’t change course or admit mistakes, but will keep Rummy and Rove as long as possible also ensures that the next two years will see increasing numbers of Democratic voters and fewer Republican ones. Americans now see that if you vote Republican, you get a mess- war, bankruptcy, bigotry, unemployment, etc. Conservatives, enjoy your dwindling moments; you won’t see this type of unbalanced control of government again in your lifetimes.

The National Research Council reports that an immigrant to the U.S. without a high-school diploma — whether legal or illegal — consumes $89,000 more in governmental services than he pays in taxes during his lifetime. An immigrant with only a high-school diploma is a net cost of $31,000. Eighty percent of illegal immigrants have no more than a high-school degree, and 60 percent have less than a high-school degree.

And sends every dam-n penny he makes back home. Makes sense, don’t it?

Steve Camarota of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies estimates that illegal immigrants cost the federal government $10 billion a year. State and local governments lose even more. Illegals pay some taxes, but not enough to cover governmental expenses like Medicaid and treatment for the uninsured.

Andy-saq.

Remove head from as* before speaking. The grunted tones you use make your faux-news talking points sound asinine and moronic. No one is listening to you or bothering to read the links you post because you always come off as a pedantic 3-year-old; see: the children on the ABC show “The Nanny”, like the one last night who would throw his head back in frustration and anger and then make sounds between a grunt and a groan because no one was hopping-to when he wanted people to do what he demanded… it must be very frustrating to see your administration slowly flush itself down a toilet. By all means, allow me. Ahem. “Clinton had sex! In the White House! IMPEACH!” Yep. Heard ya. We allllll got it. “and he slashed the defense budget so troops are getting killed. It’s HIS fault! Prince Bush can do NO wrong!” Right, right, right. I need a pen. I need to write Andy-saq’s talking points down so I don’t mistake any. Clinton should have had the fore-sight to know your ol’ boy was going to be a war-monger. Mulligan.

BTW, I caught Bill Maher last night. One of his guests was a CA Repub Senator and I really DID listen to this guy try to make his points about immigration and Gee-Dubya. Dana, the Senator, made an excellent point about Dems exploiting illegal immigrants politically and Repubs exploiting illegals financially. No immigration bill will EVER pass with the big business Repubs in power (in office or otherwise) back pocket – ahem. I completely agreed with Dana there. However, he was just a bit too mired in the faux-news talking points though. Toward the end of the show Maher spoke about Andy Card and showed the now-famous shot of Card whispering to Gee-Dub that the nation is under attack and ol’ boy sits there for seven minutes. I belive it was a comic who made the joke he wanted to hear what happened to the duck in the children’s story that was being read before getting up to DO SOMETHING. Dana simply sat there and stuttered when Maher said (paraphrasing) “if that had been Clinton sitting in that seat for seven minutes, how would repubs have reacted”? “Ba-dee-ba-dee-ba-dee. ERROR. Does not compute.” The talking point machine has a serious FLAW. It physically cannot call out Gee-Dub on his wrongdoings. THAT’S NOT PATRIOTISM FOLKS! That is BLIND ADMIRATION and it doesn’t make him a good president OR a good leader! You people (Andy-saq, et al) don’t help the rest of the nation by being a brown-noser. WAKE UP! The violent weather injured dozens of Arkansans and destroyed numerous homes and businesses. Gov. Mike Huckabee authorized the National Guard to help clean up the town of Marmaduke, where brick shells were all that remained of some houses. He also declared emergencies in seven counties to allow residents to seek state aid.

He said Tennessee was up to 24 deaths and 1,000 homes destroyed by Sunday’s storms. The latest victim was found in the rubble of a home in the community of Millsfield, officials said. Emergency crews were still out searching for possible victims, but no one else was known to be missing, Bredesen said.

And what about Hillary’s “It takes a village to raise a child” philosophy. Bad parenting gets support while good parenting, in the case of BD’s link, gets punished?

Once again, it goes to the “individual’s responsibility” not society’s responsibility for the irresponsible individual.

Has any individual here tried to advise a parent how to raise their child? It is not met with enthusiasm from the parent. I never do it unless I am asked for advice.

a. The November elections would have been a pinko referendum to defeat Delay. Not to pick a fight, but your statement

“If liberal policies keep the people enslaved to government for their very existence, that equates to being “held hostage” by Democratic liberalism”

I think is a little off base. The most dependent people on government in this country are not the poor or unemployed or illegal aliens as much as the elderly. Any of the first three can get jobs and get off govt. help, but the elderly cannot get younger. Both sides pander to the AARP more than any other lobby.

And the part about being enslaved to the government as a form of being held hostage, I think you would have to look at how many defense contractors (Armalite, Raytheon, Mcdonell Douglas…etc) are dependent upon government defense contracts more than an single mom with no highschool education.

“The main female character, Yukiko, draws hair on the ‘mound’ of a little girl,” Collins reports. “The brothers of a dead samurai have sex with his daughter….certain passages can better be described as reminiscent of Penthouse Forum…Other sex scenes are less conventional.”

A direct quote from the novel: “At age 10 the madam put the child in a cage with a bear trained to couple with young girls so the girls would be frigid and not fall in love with their patrons. They fed her through the bars and aroused the bear with a stick when it seemed to lose interest.”

British Literary Review editor Nancy Sladek, who oversees a Bad Sex fiction writing contest, tells Collins: “That’s a bit depraved, isn’t it, this kind of thing about bears and young girls?” Never mind the passage concerning sex with a deer.”

Wonkette Falls Asleep At The Keyboard Reviewing Barbara Boxer’s Novel

“Conservatives like to charge that liberals have no new ideas. Unfortunately, (Senator Barbara Boxer’s novel) “A Time to Run” seems to prove them right.”

- Ana Marie Cox, aka Wonkette, in the New York Times Book Review today.

Some, uh, excerpts:

Her skirt was very short, and Josh found himself mesmerized by her perfectly shaped, silken legs with kneecaps that reminded him of golden apples — he couldn’t remember having been captivated by knees before — and her lustrous thighs. He tore his eyes away from Bianca’s legs with the utmost difficulty.

And some bestiality!:

A ton of finely tuned muscle, hide glistening, the crest of his mane risen in full sexual display, and his neck curved in an exaggerated arch that reminded Greg of a horse he’d seen in an old tapestry in some castle in Europe Jane had dragged him to. The stallion approached, nostrils flared, hooves lifting with delicate precision, the wranglers hanging on grimly. Greg clutched the rails with white knuckles, wondering, as these two fierce animals were coerced into the majestic coupling by at least six people, how foals ever got born in the wild.

Aack, cough, cough. Now that is sick, you libs are freakin weird.

No, Danish, the Christian fundies are not as bad the the Islamic fundies. That much is true. Which is not the same as saying they are harmless. They advocate turning the U.S. into a theocracy, which may be far more dangerous, in the long run, than anything the wahhabists can muster. We already see glimpses of it in the Shrub’s policy — talking about his “Crusade” in the Middle Easy, etc. — and it could get far far worse. Fundamentally these fundies desire the exact same thing as their Islamic counterparts, and if their methods are, in general, less obviously brutal and inhuman, that is balanced by their access to far greater power. An Islamic terrorist organization can wipe out a few buildings. A Puritanical cabbal at the helm of the U.S. government can wipe out every country on Earth. And when you have people like Robertson already preaching targeted assasinations of foreign leaders, it’s not hard to imagine him widening his scope if like-minded minions of his come to greater power.

It is only very conscious separation of church and state that can safeguard against this catastrophe. The problem is that America has fallen far behind Europe in moral and humanistic virtues, while significantly over-lapping it in militaristic prowess. This combination of combative ignorance of fundamentalist Christianity — no less rigid at its core than fundamentalist Islam, Hinduism, etc. — and possible access to the greatest military might this planet has ever seen may prove to be the greatest danger the world has ever seen.

Your defense of Tom DeLay and his right to a US citizen’s constitutional guarantees (innocent until proven guilty, due process, jury of his peers, etc.) is awe inspiring.

Until I remember that you want to deny US citizen Jose Padilla those very same protections. You’ve already “convicted” him as a terrorist who would strap on a suicide vest if he were ever freed. But you don’t know that. Isn’t he innocent until proven guilty? Why doesn’t Padilla deserve the same rights as DeLay? Hmmmm?

Often called “Dick Cheney’s Dick Cheney,” Libby himself is not easy to categorize. He is both an influential foreign policy adviser and the author of a highly-acclaimed thriller set in turn-of-the-century Japan.

The novel earned Libby favorable reviews. The Boston Globe called “The Apprentice” an “alluring novel of intrigue” while the New York Times Book Review said Libby’s “storytelling skill neatly mixes conspiratorial murmurs with a boy’s emotional turmoil.”- www.cbsnews.com

RPV,

Did you actually read the one link you provided me? Unfortunately, it cannot be cut and pasted, but I will quote this one key passage:

This tide swept zero tolerance into national policy when the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION signed the Gun-Free Schools Act of 1994 into law…

The Jefford Amendment to the Gun-Free Schools Act, and more recently the 1997 revisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Eduation Act…

In other words legislation from a Democrat President, from the Democrat anti-gun lobby, with an amendment from Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords - A RINO Republican, and another clearly Liberally inspired amendment in 1997.

The ACLU and The Rutherford Institute are fighting these policies. In other words, there are BI-PARTISAN objections to zero tolerance policies. This is NOT the invention of The Republican Right Wing.

Further, the biggest complaint that the paper’s author seems to have is that these policies are…racist, and indeed the entire thesis begins with that premise.

Try again wanker.

Good riddance to the slimeball! Next up - the equally slimy prez.

DeLay was born in Laredo, Texas. After living part of his childhood in Venezuela due to his father’s work in the petroleum and natural gas industry, he received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology from the University of Houston in 1970, though he had previously been expelled from Baylor University for drinking and vandalism (he was caught painting a building at Texas A&M green and gold, Baylor’s colors). There he gained a reputation as a playboy, earning the nickname “Hot Tub Tom”. Prior to entering politics, DeLay ran a pest control company, which was reportedly “at best a struggling operation”. This is also where he earned his nickname “the exterminator.” DeLay faced tax liens three times by the IRS for not paying payroll and income taxes, and paid settlements to two different associates who claimed they were cheated by him.[5]

DeLay was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1978. He struggled with alcoholism during his service there. By his own admission, he was drinking “eight, ten, twelve martinis a night at receptions and fundraisers.”[5]

DeLay became a born-again Christian in 1985.

Rushncap,

That is not what defines a “theocracy” any more than electing people whose members belong to The Abyssianian Babtist Church, and follow that church’s beliefs would be a theocracy.

Electing people with similar values is a perfectly reasonable desire. The crux of the matter is that you object to what you term “Puritanism”, while others object to what could be termed “Hedonism”.

How is it that it’s okay for you to wish elect people who are more of a hedonistic or secular bent, but it’s not okay for others to prefer the alternative?

Why is it okay to worship the goverment, or global warming theories, or political-correct speech, or abortion on demand, but it is not permissable to worship a Christian God?

Danish- to cut and paste from an Adobe pdf all you have to do is select the text tool. Like this-

Growing out of Reagan-Bush era drug enforcement policy, zero tolerance discipline attempts to send a message by punishing both major and minor incidents severely. Analysis of a representative range of zero tolerance suspensions and expulsions suggests that controversial applications of the policy are not idiosyncratic, but may be inherent in zero tolerance philosophy. There is as yet little evidence that the strategies typically associated with zero tolerance contribute to improved student behavior or overall school safety. Research on the effectiveness of school security measures is extremely sparse, while data on suspension and expulsion raise serious concerns about both the equity and effectiveness of school exclusion as an educational intervention. Community reaction has led some districts to adopt alternatives to zero tolerance, stressing a graduated system matching offenses and consequences, and preventive strategies, including bullying prevention, early identification, and improved classroom management. Building a research base on these alternatives is critical, in order to assist schools in developing more effective, less intrusive methods for school discipline.

BD,

The threat of a theocracy lies primarily with the probability that the christian-leaning legislature(s) will make certain behaviors unlawful (such as drinking alcoholic beverages) while a secular legislature will try to preserve individual freedoms.

My point is that if I want to drink alcohol, so be it. The only laws restricting its use should relate to 1) age and 2) excessive use that places others at risk.

However, we shouldn’t have state-sponsored religious holidays, blue laws, etc.

Personally, I don’t feel that there should be any tax relief for churches. For example, the Roman Catholic Church in the USA has literally billions of dollars in earning assets where the earnings are exempt from taxation. I believe that they are exempt from inheritance taxes, property taxes, etc. as well.

Perhaps if all entities (citizens, businesses, & churches were treated equally with respect to taxes, there would be more attention paid to how the funds are spent. Another point - The Federal government should not have spent $157 million on faith-based initiatives when those recipients by and large pay nothing in taxes.

You are either incredibly dim, Danish, or you’re one hell of an actress. There is nothing wrong with electing people who share your views. What is wrong is for elected officials to base their political decisions on their faith or on their “holy” text. Would you be cool if suddenly we elected a Muslim government and you were forbidden from showing your face in public and would be stoned for walking outside without a male relative? An elected theocracy is still a theocracy. Is it legal under the U.S. Constitution? No. The Constitution has always been interpreted to say that religion and government do not mix. The fundie neocons are trying to change that.

All of this discussion about presumption of innocence and having a right to a fair trial just smells of hypocrisy.

Where was the burden of proof when GWB decided to invade Iraq? Virtually every administration official cited U.N. resolution 1441 when posturing for the invasion. Satellite photos of “portable chemical/biological warfare trailers” were released for public viewing. Reports from Iraqi dissidents were used in spite of their obvious bias. Other more reliable reports were discounted.

Israel has ignored more nearly 100 U.N. resolutions. The US has vetoed at least 32 UN Security Council resolutions specifically addressing Israel (more vetos than the total number of vetoes cast by all other members of the Security Council). Yet the US would never consider invading Israel even though they have WMD’s. No, the US instead gave $3 billion in direct aid to Israel and allows Israel to spend 25% of that aid wherever they want on what ever they want. That aid alone equates to $500 for every Israeli citizen. The US also gives Israel additional aid by giving them military equipment.

Now ask the question: Why do many muslims hate America?

Answer: Because America treats Israel one way, and muslims another.

America should simply demand that Israel return ALL OCCUPIED territories AT ONCE. If they do not, then we should stop ALL FINANCIAL AND MILITARY aid immediately.

Once Israel returns the occupied territories, then the US can step in to defend Israel at any time, and threaten anyone who would attack Israel.

One footnote: Does anyone else see the hypocrisy in citing U.N. resolution 1441 as the reason for invading Iraq, then constantly criticizing the UN? It seems this administration uses the UN only when it wants something.

Rushncap,

I like your link. It says, “About 14 percent of the electorate in 2000 identified itself as part of the “Christian Right,” with 79 percent of this sector voting for George W. Bush.”. In other words, about 11% of the population, who are members of the “Christian Right”, voted for Bush. The article goes on to say what a DIVERSE group Christians are and that Barna Research has found that 41 percent of the population identifies as Born-Again using a broad definition, but only 8 percent accept all the tenets in a list of strict conservative doctrinal beliefs.

Why the panic about this impending doom of a Theocratic state? And what about the Christian Left? I never hear people complain about what a threat they are.

I brought up alcoholics because JSNtoGOP brought it up, and the Leftists on this blog use W’s drinking as a favorite snide talking point, and they never compliment him for turning his life around.

I am talking about “Puritans” because YOU brought it up. I am illustrating the hypocrisy of the “anti-Puritanical Left” who become surprisingly Puritanical when a key Republican is a “hot-tubbing Playboy who used to have a drinking problem”. Yet the rest of the time they actively further the notion that the GOP is hell-bent on taking your right to party in a hot tub and/or to enjoy some cocktails away from you.

There is never going to be a Christian Theocracy in America - that is just a ridiculous assertion.

Maybe it’s because we would starve if we didn’t have the agricultural workers working the fields? I don’t know - I want all of it de-linked.

I have a theory that could be incorrect (so I don’t mind if anyone disagrees that it is correct)that the minimum wage laws contribute to this problem. If a farmer tried to hire a legal citizen for less than the minimum wage he couldn’t do it because he’d be reported for violating the law. But an illegal immigrant has no legal standing and isn’t going to bite the proverbial hand that feeds him.

I say get rid of the minimum wage and let the free market work. You’d probably end up with a wage that is higher than what is paid now, but lower than mandated minimums.

I know it’s never going to happen, but I bet the minimum wage contributes a lot to our immigration problems.

Beer & wine is sold in stores to be consumed at home only…no alcohol. The same is true for many counties throughout rural Georgia. These redneck wingnuts only obey the laws they want, and ignore the rest.

Relative to those who participate in entitlement programs, be more specific if you are capable. For example, Social Security is considered one of those programs. You don’t get any money out of it unless you put something into it. The same with workmen’s comp and medicare. You are the one painting things with a broad brush. The religious groups getting money for faith-based initiatives in many cases were virtually inoperative until they applied for and got federal money. Now they are out selling sexual abstinence when this should be left to the churches or parents (or both). That is a religious agenda if I ever saw one.

The reason born again Christians are a danger to America is not that they will outlaw sex, booze, or anything else. That would be bad but not the worst thing. These Christians are a danger because they cannot think, evidence means nothing to them, they are therefore prime candidates for dictatorship, fascism, and any other kind of anti-democratic social and political order.

It should bother sensible people that anyone could believe those crazy semitic ancient prophecies about the end of the world. The Bible was written by lunatics in most cases, especially the apocalyptic books.

If someone tells you he is born again, has a personal relationship with some dead Jew, and looks forward to being taken up in a Rapture — you should know he is certifiably crazy and should be institutionalized before he gets power and institutionalizes you!

Christians are “feared” and maligned because they are “attempting” to bring “fascism” down on America, according to some of the eccentrics in here. This “fascism” would lead to what exactly? Why will no one finish the sentence, complete the thought? Is it because we are harmless and some people just enjoy sputtering rage at an easy target?

Meanwhile, the “intellectual” pinkos hang out on the college campuses, flush with educational dollars and enjoy the decadence with young people half their age. Instead of enjoying life’s guilty little pleasures, pleasures that the Christians have no immediate intentions of stopping, these self proclaimed idols have allowed their minds to rot, spouting off insane theories about killing 90% of the world’s population with Ebola and calling the innocents from 9/11 “little Eichmann’s.”

Now you can fool yourself but, honestly, who do you think poses a greater risk to your freedoms and to your life? Us or them?

Good riddance to the slimeball! Next up - the equally slimy prez.

*DeLay was born in Laredo, Texas. There he gained a reputation as a playboy, earning the nickname “Hot Tub Tom”.Prior to entering politics, DeLay ran a pest control company, which was reportedly “at best a struggling operation”.

BD, …because you are a Secular Puritan (you hate hot-tubbing playboys and reformed alcholics)…

I have been called some inane things in my life, but a secular puritan?!! Where do you come up with this rubbish?

Who said anything about hate?! Obviously, you are very comfortable with the word and use it liberally (get it!), I never even inferred it. Try to think before you write and don’t ever again attempt to put words in my mouth. Got it?

I don’t care at all about hammerhead’s excessive drinking, or how many stupid young Texas girls he banged, just his penchant for being another power-hungry p* that wants to turn this country into nice little christian-republican country club. But I’m sure it will be a tolerant one!*

JSN2GOP,

The above are verbatim re-postings, first of of your snarky post about Tom DeLay, followed by your hilarious DENIAL that you cared about the very issues that you had just posted.

You seem particularly interested in the “private” aspects of his life, including the little gossipy tidbits that I’d already mentioned, - about his action in a hot tub and the fact that he is a reformed alcoholic.

I was using a literary device called SARCASM when I said that you are a “Secular Puritan”.

My point is that you are a ridiculous hypocrite. My point is that people like you and Candide and Midori and Rushncap, who we are to believe represent the tolerant and free-wheeling Dems, TRASH people at every opportunity for doing the very things that you claim Republicans are trying to prevent the rest of us from doing.

So which is it wanker? Are you for or against Hot Tubs and martinis?

You’re right. Certain counties and towns in certain states are dry, with some even trying to deny wine and beer licenses to restaurants. I agree that these local ordinances are ridiculous, but they have to be dealt with locally. That’s the way our system works.

Personally I don’t think that it can be linked to the Republican party. You’re right, it was implemented by Clinton. I attribute it to long-term tolerance of negative behavior. Society’s ills so to speak.

Schools have carried it to the extreme. Teachers frustrated because they can’t do their job, schools fearful of lawsuits for allowing violence, fearful of lawsuits for implementing discipline. It goes on and on and on………….

That is a good site though, archives. A good article on education in ID and evolutionary science. Surprisingly neutral.

I completely understand the frustration of teachers dealing with uncivilized children, and worrying about lawsuits from disgruntled somebodies or others (which is really what it’s about).

However, I think there is something terribly wrong when schools discard all reason and logical thinking and punish honest “mistakes”.

This is the exact opposite of what a liberal (in the classic sense) education is supposed to embody and inspire.

Brian J. Doyle, DOB 4/7/50, the Deputy Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., was arrested this evening at his residence in Silver Springs, Maryland, on 23 Polk County charges related to the use of a computer to seduce a child and transmitting harmful materials to a minor.

On many occasions, Doyle instructed the victim, whom he believed to be a 14-year-old girl, to perform a sexual act while thinking of him, and described explicit and perverse sexual acts he wished to have with her, in addition to sending her numerous obscene .mpg files (digital movies). He also had sexually explicit telephone conversations with a detective posing as a child on his office line and cell phone. He attempted to seduce the girl during their online chats, encouraging her to purchase a web cam so that she could send graphic images of herself to him, and promised her that he would likewise send nude photos of himself. Many of the conversations he initiated with the victim are too extraordinary and graphic for public release.

The religious right is not only a real threat to freedom and democracy, they are a real threat to world peace. Firstly, they do not truly believe in God’s word. If they did, then they would not be trying to “fill” the end of days prophecies themselves with warmongering and trying to “force” God’s hand by creating their own versions of or what they believe are the signs. Sheer arrogance to believe that they can force God’s hand. I think they believe that they are in fact God.

Secondly, when did the 10 commandments become the 6 commandments? They give more creedence to an old testament tiny reference to homosexual men than they do to honoring the 10 commandments. Lying to start wars, stealing and looting for power, becoming serial husbands which are just adulterers, murdering thousands upon thousands of innocents for the sake of looting and power. But if a party has a right to act ruthlessly in its self-interest, it also has a duty not to cave to the other party or its media allies. A party should get rid of its leaders on its own schedule — not its opponent’s. That is why last year, when Democrats were calling for Tom’s blood, I wrote a rhetorically violent column urging the Republican Party not to throw him over. The party did stand firm with him then — and in fact gave him a big party.

Tom has served the party magnificently over the last two decades — both as a principled conservative legislator, and as a shrewd and tireless political operator. And he has had the good judgment to exit on his own two feet.

Both the Republican Party and the country are stronger and better for all that Tom DeLay has contributed.

“Mainstream” America does not rely on “public policy.” Perhaps that maybe why blacks, taught to be victims and seek redress at a very early age, are being left behind, no? Go to school, find a job like everybody else does, how hard is this to understand?

Maybe the serious decline in the marriage rate among black adults does not suggest the demise of a community.

More gossip…

“DeLay is so addicted to corporate money that he is now accepting it to fight the charges that he laundered it. The man lacks any sense of decency or, apparently, irony.” —Andrew Wheat, Texas Observer, November 18, 2005

Thomas D. “Tom” DeLay (R-Texas), who served as Majority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2002, and political associates Jim Ellis and John Colyandro were first indicted September 28, 2005, by the Travis County, Texas, Grand Jury, all three charged with “conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme.” DeLay was forced to step down and “temporarily relinquish his post.”

DeLay, the epitome, indeed the paragon, of partisan fanatics, accused the prosecutor, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, of being a “partisan fanatic”, despite the fact that 11 of Earle’s 15 investigations or indictments of elected officials since his own election in 1976 have targeted Democrats.

DeLay Quitting Congress On April 3, 2006, DeLay, “whose iron hold on the House Republicans melted as a lobbying corruption scandal engulfed the Capitol, told TIME that he will not seek reelection and will leave Congress within months. Taking defiant swipes at ‘the left’ and the press, he said he feels ‘liberated’ and vowed to pursue an aggressive speaking and organizing campaign aimed at promoting foster care, Republican candidates and a closer connection between religion and government.” (Oh great…)

Rudy Guilty Plea Tony Rudy, DeLay’s former chief of staff, appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C. March 31, 2006, and pled guilty to conspiracy “in a case stemming from the corruption probe of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, bringing the scandal closer to the door of his one-time boss, Representative Tom DeLay,” Bloomberg News reported.

Rudy “promised to cooperate with a federal investigation of bribery and lobbying fraud that has so far netted three convictions and prompted calls for ethics reform in Congress,” the Associated Press reported

Here, I’ll help:

By Republican Family Values April 5, 2006 03:20 PM Mike Hintz, a First Assembly of God youth pastor, introduced by Bush on the campaign trail, and promoted his policies. Says he supports Bush’s values. Two months later, this married father of four turned himself into police, charged with the sexual exploitation of a child.

Introduced by Bush, eh?:

I also want to thank Minority Leader in the House of Representatives on the — in the Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, Democrat from New York, Without the tax bill I’m signing today, the Hintzes would have paid $1,200 more in federal taxes next year.

Zero was said about this dudes political affiliation, zero. In fact, the only reason Bush mentioned the guy was over bipartisan legislation.

BTW- No one has released any info regarding Brian J. Doyles appointment. I did not post info related to him but my handle was jacked to do so last pm. Still waiting on this one but doesn’t change the fact that Chertoff has once agin FAILED to keep his house in order irregardless of who appointed him. Since the Homeland Security Dept. wasn’t even created until after 9/11 by Bush and was thereby staffed by his administration, anyone with an iota of common sense can see through Sucks lie that Clinton appointed him. Ummm, Dickhead FV, uncontrolable wanker, where does it say Republican in your 6:34?:

Harris gets prison term for molesting girl By LAURIA LYNCH-GERMAN of the Journal Sentinel staff Last Updated: Oct. 22, 2001 West Bend - A former West Bend alderman was sentenced to 12 years in prison Monday after he admitted to molesting a girl.

Mark Harris, 44, struggled with his words during a statement to Washington County Circuit Judge Annette Ziegler.

“I did some very bad things, I damaged a child,” Harris said. “I, Mark Harris, molested … words, words fail me.”

Harris was found guilty of one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child after a two-year series of events that involved indecent touching and showing pornography to the girl. He could have faced 60 years in prison.

She was 11 when the molestation began and was 13 when she told a school liaison officer about the events earlier this year.

The girl’s father also spoke at the sentencing.

“Did he have a moral compass? Did he act with a conscience?” he asked. “Did he abide by the laws? No. It wasn’t one time. He did it over and over and over.”

Two of Harris’ brothers and three friends spoke on his behalf, presenting him as a good military man, a churchgoer and a provider for his family. One brother called Harris’ actions an aberration.

Assistant District Attorney Holly Bunch said Harris was a predator and ridiculed an earlier statement from Harris that the incidents were unintentional.

“It cannot be argued with a straight face that it was accidental,” she said.

She said the victim still has nightmares.

Deborah Strigenz, Harris’ attorney, said her client had waived his preliminary hearing and right to a trial to spare the girl the trauma of testifying.

“He is very remorseful; he is taking responsibility for his actions,” she said.

After Harris completes the 12-year prison sentence, he will be under the supervision of the Department of Corrections for 18 years.

Harris was an alderman representing the 8th District from 1998 to 2001. He was appointed to the Common Council after an alderman who represented the district moved from the area. Harris ran successfully for a full term. But he failed to file papers for re-election on time and did not run in the last election.

RE,

In your attempt to broadbrush anyone who is appalled by the felonious Clintons and label them “right wing hack” I guess you missed this part, right at the beginning of the interview:

“I was on a trip to New York City about 8 years ago, when a friend handed me some articles about the death of Ron Brown. The author was a fellow named Christopher Ruddy, whom we all know from Newsmax.com. Well, one thing led to another, and I became obsessed with the many crimes committed by the Clintons. But the greatest crime of all is that they are not now behind bars. Mind you, I am a former Democrat, and I admit that I voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 I wrote the book because there is a myth that Bill Clinton was a great President, and I must set the record straight. Furthermore, Hillary Clinton is right now on a direct path to the White House, and I want to do my part to keep her out of the White House in 2008.

The author and I have 2 things in common.

N.Y. Sen. Clinton says immigration bill would make her a criminal

Speaking to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, she claimed her work on behalf of New York constituents would run afoul of the House bill setting penalties for anyone who knowingly assists or encourages illegal immigrants to remain here.

“I realize I would be a criminal, too. My staff would be criminal. We help people with all kinds of problems,” said Clinton, D-N.Y., prompting titters in the audience.

Rep. Peter King charged Clinton is the one spreading misinformation, saying the only way his bill would make her a criminal is if she was a “coyote,” another term for an immigrant smuggler.

“I hope that Sen. Clinton is not suggesting that she and her staff are members of an alien smuggling gang, or that she is a coyote posing as a senator,” said King.”

“There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed by what is right about America,” Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former first lady who seems to be aiming for a return to the White House, said Wednesday as she wrapped up her speech to a Hispanic organization.

Excuse the crowd if they had heard it before. The New York Democrat, who clearly took good notes, had very slightly revised her husband’s old standard, from his inaugural address on Jan. 20, 1993.

My satirical skills are threadbare this evening. Of course Wonkette is madly trolling for dirt, RW!! That’s it’s job!! Always has been! It’s Drudge in a cheap cocktail dress wearing $2 perfume!

As for poor Mr. Doyle, I’m sure that IF he’s a GOP sugardaddy, he’s a minor leaguer and he undoubtedly has his counterparts among Democrats, Conservatives, Marxists, Liberals, Royalists and Baathists.

But he did join TSA on Bush’s watch.

“Doyle is a former news and assignment editor of Time magazine’s Washington bureau who accepted a buyout in 2001 and later joined the Transportation Security Administration as a spokesman.”

And his arrest has one prominent GOP lawmaker wondering what I’m wondering:

“Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.), who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, scheduled a hearing May 18 to examine whether the department’s guidelines on screening employees and issuing security clearances are adequate.

‘What if the person on the other end had been a member of al-Qa’ida or a similar terrorist organization and used this information to blackmail Mr. Doyle?’ King said yesterday in a statement.”

He is a strange duck, if what he’s accused of doing is true. Angling for a ‘young teen cancer survivor’? That’s not cradle robbing, that’s gurney robbing!!

Well, he is innocent until proven guilty. And, truth be told, I kinda feel sorry for the guy.

finch,

From your story:

Doyle’s security clearance, badge and facility access passes were suspended, and he is not being paid, the federal agency said in a statement yesterday.

Which proves that Saxby Chambliss was right about not allowing DHS employees to operate under strict union protections that would not allow you to take swift action against a bad apple. How long before Max Cleland apologizes to Senator Chambliss?

You’re doin’ a heck of a job Brian J. Doyles .. hehehehe snark snark snark.

This guy was high enough in the Vaderland.. oops gestapo I mean Homeland Security to have been appointed by someone at the top. With HS image so low, you can bet press secretaries got a lot of attention from the top. Hardly one of the Janitor level 10000 that you Hypocrites try to put forward. A REALLY dumb reich wing argument to attempt to write him off as just a low echelon bottom rung one of the lower set. Try quoting a different line from your favorite drug addict and racist.

Finally, finch provides some usable, verifiable information to this board:

Doyle is a former news and assignment editor of Time magazine’s Washington bureau.

Which is all we need to know about Mr. Doyle.

I know you libs would probably have no problem telling me Time Rag is a nest of Conservatives but that’s only because you can’t open your mouth without lying.

“Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs,” Mr. Reid said in a 1993 statement first reported on yesterday on the Drudge Report. “The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement. Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits often without paying any taxes.”

Since the time of his proposed legislation, the estimated number of illegal aliens has gone from 3.3 million to more than 11 million. In other words, for you stupid lying pinkos, it’s worse now.

Score one for evolution, but one against global warming theories?:

Discovered: the missing link that solves a mystery of evolution

When Tiktaalik lived, the Canadian Arctic region was part of a land mass which straddled the equator. Like the Amazon basin today, it had a subtropical climate and the animal lived in small streams.

Canada was the tropics? But they didn’t have SUVs then! How can this be?
