Besides, what would you do with your life if you did not have someone you’ve never seen, met, talked to or spent any time with to psychoanalyze and invent character traits? After all, if you did not have a chance to invent crap like “he is a socialit” or “he has no sense of humor” what do you have left to battle with? Facts are not on your side, so that’s out of the question. Ad hominem is your only method of feeling good about yourself. So go to town! Enjoy yourself.

There was a dark and joyless time in America when one could actually go about daily life without ever encountering pornographic images. A child could grow up scarcely knowing that “adult entertainment” existed, much less acquainted with its many varieties. Hotel stays, in that prudish, stuffy era, had to be endured without pay-as-you-go porn, in-room and On Command. American males could not avail themselves of hundreds of millions of obscene films every year—as they do now, courtesy of even respectable corporations like Time Warner and Comcast—or take in the show at “gentlemen’s clubs” when porn is not enough.
Enough to say that police investigators, in the sex-crimes units that have expanded roughly in proportion to mass-market “adult material,” rarely conclude that the rapist or child predator lacked for pornographic inspiration before committing the crime. As to those “major beneficiaries” of porn, you won’t find too many women these days who think that the world is better because of Playboy or the smug, selfish ethic it has always purveyed. For good reason has the Playboy Foundation long been a benefactor to NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood: The Playboy Philosophy has always been for the ladies, too, all right—just so long as they remember what they’re good for, don’t get too sentimental and feel grateful when the playboy in their own life offers to pay for the abortion.
One hesitates to speak harshly of an old man, who somewhere along the way must have done a few worthwhile things. But as to the public legacy of Hugh Hefner, he should have no illusions. All of us have our share of faults and sins to account for. But the lowest of vices and “strangest secret of hell,” as G.K. Chesterton called it, is the desire to pervert others, to coax and corrupt them and drag them down with you. And any man who at the age of 80 has that to answer for is by no stretch the luckiest cat on the planet.

Good toon and an interesting indictment of our conservative culture where there’s a pill for every ill. Criminals, thugs, music stars, actors, and those who seek answers to disagreements with violence rather than diplomacy are our heros. The poor and infirmed are objects of spite, not pity.
Pacifism and the courage to “turn the other cheek” are derided while “Jesus” is only seen as a five letter fictional character who must be given lip service in order not to alienate votes. The Bible is simply a book that can be picked over to gain some “talking points” and any part of it that doesn’t fit with the rush to grab a “handful of silver” is ignored.
Conservatives want to blame dirty books for the collapse of decency in America. The real culprits, however, are the dirty minds of conservative Jesus-Users who proclaim his glory while defecating on his memory and philosophy of non-violence. Christianity has surely become the most facetious of the world’s religions.

Most Americans I talked to in California summed up their reactions to the marches as something like, ‘Why would anyone wave the flag of the country that they would never return to—and yet scream in anger at those with whom they wish to stay?
When schools were dismissed due to student walkouts and traffic disrupted, Americans began to see the wages of their own indifference to the problems of illegal immigration. Insidiously over the last 30 years we have allowed an entire apartheid community to grow up in enclaves in the American Southwest and occasionally beyond—one by language and psyche that may well feel more romantically attached to the Mexico it left and won’t return to the United States it sought out and must stay in.

The Clinton administration in 1998 officially cited Iraqi agents as involved in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. That is part of the reason why the U.S. Senate, not the Bush administration, authorized a war against Saddam in October 2002: “ Whereas members of al-Qaeda, an organization bearing responsibility for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests, including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are known to be in Iraq.”
From the slowly emerging Baathist archives, we are learning that for more than a decade Saddam’s agents had some contacts with, and offered help to, al Qaeda operatives from the Sudan to the Philippines.

Speaking of hypocrisy:
Now we hear Time Baghdad Bureau Chief Michael Ware, in a drunken, live interview (“In fact, I’m drinking now…I try to stay as drunk for as long as possible while I’m here”) from the heart of dry Muslim Iraq, recklessly throwing around charges that American soldiers are guilty of manhandling Iraqi women (“We’ve seen allegations that women have been mishandled or roughly handled. That always inflames passions”) and terrorizing civilians (“We’ve also seen insurgents criticize other insurgent groups, ‘cause you’re not doing enough to get the chicks out! I mean, that’s how important it can be, this is a matter of great honor, and it’s a spark”). Ware’s are precisely the lies and fantasies that feed the Islamists.
Indeed, the better example of ineptitude in this war lies with the media that demands from others apologies for incompetence that it will never offer itself. Few professions today ask so much of so many others and so very little of themselves.

From LS&L’s Victor David Hanson link -
There remains this last unknown — how well can a liberal democracy, in its greatest age of affluence, leisure, and self-critical reflection, still fight a distant war against emissaries of the Dark Ages who seek to behead apostates, blow up democrats, and silence with death writers, journalists, and cartoonists. It is not just our democratic values versus their IEDs, but whether our idealism still has the resilience to defeat their nihilism.
Or put more directly: Can Western enlightenment and power, embedded in deep cynicism, still prevail over ignorance and self-inflicted pathology energized by fanaticism?

Maher jumps in and compares the current status in Iraq to the Ma Lai Massacre in Vietnam. The Ma Lai Massacre was when troops were ordered to kill innocent people in a village.
Maher continues on and seems to be asking random questions that are directed for certain answers. For example, he asks Ware about US soldiers having affairs with Iraqi woman and the way they apparently abuse them. Ware says that our troops are mishandling women and implies that terrorists treat women better since they kidnap innocent people and tell the Iraqi’s to release women from jail.

Pinko Misinformation Stripping
Why, yes I am, rushncap-
When it comes to global warming, the mainstream media have never met a hysterical prediction of doom they didn’t like. This week, Time magazine took the fear-mongering to a new low with a global-warming cover package complete with the banner “Be worried. Be very worried.” It included a photograph from Greenpeace that, according to that organization, shows a glacier melting because of global warming. Time neglected to inform its readers that glaciers nearby were doing just fine, and that one had expanded. Furthermore, it failed to mention that scientists don’t know exactly what is causing glaciers to shift. According to one scientific report, “It cannot yet be assessed if the ice retreat … indicates just regional changes of the atmospheric circulation patterns or can be assigned to global climatic change.” This kind of one-sided reporting is typical not only of Time’s cover package, but also of all the Chicken Little reporters who follow suit.

It’s nice to see some levity injected (pun intended) into the steriods issue. While player performance factors may disturb the celebrity and record driven segment of sports fans, the side effects of steriods are more thought provoking. The health risks are enormous, but the most ironic result of steriod use in athletes in what it does to one’s sexuality. Women attracted by the outward appearence of a pumped-up jock may be severely disappointed when the realtionship “intensifies”. Men turned on by a successful female athlete may also be in for some unexpected surprises. The correlation between muscles and sex may fall into serious question. That’s good news for us skinny guys.

Another outright lie, this time courtesy of “Expose The Left”… which doesn’t. Neither Maher nor Ware says US soldiers are targetting Iraqi women for abuse.
Maher asks Ware: “If something went down between a soldier and a woman — it hasn’t happened yet, but what would the reaction be? What would you think would happen?”
Good question.
Ware answers: “This is a matter of great honor, and this is a spark, so let’s hope that we never see that lit.”
Where is the treasonous crime in that exchange?

There was an incident back in November in Haditha (حديثة), sort of the same thing that happened, one of our Marines got blown up, and these guys just kind of snapped. Wow, someone else agrees with me:
Unreal time with Bill Maher Published Sunday, March 26, 2006 by TonyR.
Maher introduced Ware to his batty audience and asked, “Now you’re really in Baghdad right, that’s not a fake backdrop of a mosque is it?” To which Ware responded, “ahh look, I’m really sad to say… yeah actually I am here.” Ware then said that he felt a sense of duty to be in Baghdad, so he could report the “slow motion train wreck.” That set the tone for one of the grimmest Iraq interviews I have ever seen. You would think Maher was interviewing Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo, or General Custer at Little Big Horn. The level of despair coming from Ware was just hard to believe.
Maher asked Ware what he thought his odds were on surviving another 3 years in Baghdad, Ware replied, “I try to stay as drunk as I can for as long as possible, in fact I’m drinking right now.” Maher’s robots laughed and clapped like this was the funniest thing they have ever heard. Maher, who has been opposed to US military intervention from day 1 smelled blood in the water and rode Ware’s misery to the hilt.
He asked about US soldiers “who went on rampages and killed civilians in a way that reminded people of the “Mai Lai massacres in Vietnam.” And if that weren’t enough, he asked what Ware thought would happen if there was “an incident between one of our soldiers, and one of the women over there.”
I would assume that question was derived from Maher’s belief that our soldiers are actually a bunch of potential rapists and barbarians, which isn’t to surprising when you see how the American left defaced Time Magazine’s American Soldier edition by photoshopping Swastikas on their uniforms. All that I can say is that this is a must see clip.

I just want to thank Time Mags Michael Ware for doing his bit to help out in Iraq.
This is from a 2004 inteview:
Even a year ago even then (the insurgents) were saying to me, “This war is not going to be won on the battlefield. We can’t hope to defeat the Americans. It’s going to be won in the living rooms of Iraq and Middle America, it’s going to be won on television.”
They were saying, “We can maintain this, we can, we have, we can sustain this longer than your political will will last. Before your people call you home.”
They can tell Arabic channels this until the cows come home, but to have it coming through an American iconic publication like Time magazine, people will listen.
I’d also like to thank him for not spilling the fava beans about our safehouse locations. Michael Ware is my kind of infidel!

Hanson’s slander of Time Magazines Michael Ware in National Review has been completely disassembled and pulverized here for the lie that it is. As has his portrait of Bill Maher.
And yet like the mental midget he is, Suck keeps repeating it
And Suck keeps repeating it.
And repeating it.
Suck, why don’t you put on your Ann Coulter wig and fantasize about killing civilians some more? Or you can celebrate mass murders like the one in Seattle that thrilled you last weekend.
People like you make the right wing look really dumb and smell very bad.

I guess this isn’t Michael Ware’s, finch’s drunk boy, first crack at treason:
It’s considered business as usual for TIME Magazine to hang out with mujahideen who are attacking and killing US soldiers, to bring us the jihad side of the news: Iraq’s Resistance After Saddam.- By Michael Ware.
Even then, he was already contemplating the meaning of it all. He knew he would have to change the operations of his cell, and communicate with the commanders above him before taking any action. In the days that followed, his methods shifted in accordance with what he recognized as a new situation. One thing hadn’t changed for his commanders and for the roughly two dozen guerrillas under his own command — their will to fight. “We will continue,” he said. “We are not Fedayeen, we are mujahideen. We don’t fight for Saddam, we fight for Iraq.”
I wonder if drunken Michael cried just then? He couldn’t have poured another drink, the “mujihadeen” would have stoned his stupid pinko a-ss to death.

Court papers say Rudy sent an e-mail inviting Ney and his then-chief of staff Neil Volz to Scotland in 2002, promising golf and “drinking and smoking Cubans.”
David U,
This prosecution is completely unfair. Free will is one thing, but who can resist the lure of a golf trip to Scotland and a promise to hang with these Cuban women?

finch,
I have listened to this interview a few times and I have to say that while I expect Bill Maher to be a full time schmuck of a comedian doing his endless anti-Bush shtick, there is something incredibly distasteful about whole tone of Michael Ware’s interview.
It comes off as a really bad parody, and I don’t see get the joke. This guy is Time Mag’s “Baghdad Bureau Chief” for Xsakes - not a reporter for the Cartoon Network.

I trust when they investigate steroid abuse in MLB they’ll question Jose Conseco, Ivan Rodriguez,Juan Gonzalez, and Rafaeel Pailmero about their experiences when playing for GW’s Texas Rangers from 88 - 94.

I didn’t even know about this Ware fellow until I read these links. I have a question. Mr. Ware is Australian and has fellow Australians fighting in Iraq.
He was embedded with the insurgents. He obviously has information! Has he offered up any of his findings to the military that may prove to be of benefit to them?
