I think the point is that the officers of our ship of state remain inflexible in the extremity.

Their highly mobile U.S. forces are tied up providing point-attack support for a local military fighting its own people for control against externally-funded, resupplied guerillas. And all they can think of is attacking their enemies.

This is a situation we’ve seen before and have in the past enjoyed little decisive advantage at.

The fact that our microchips have a million times as many transistors on them this time around may not change things as much as Rumsfeld hopes.

Rumsfeld and Cheney see every problem as “attack the opposing leadership”. They still hope to gadget, spy and bomb their way out of this. Round up all the instigators as if they are some limited-membership fraternity rather than the randomly anointed; bomb their centers of power even though our powerbases are far more centralized than theirs.

And at every opportunity they tip their hand, send the wrong signals, sow the winds we shall soon be reaping as whirlwinds. This self-limiting trait would be laughable in a regional politician. Too bad we elected them president.

They are so often compared to Hitler because we’d rather not think we elected Mussolini instead.

It’s such a wonderful thing when the American public finally wakes up and decides to do some house cleaning. Reps have the same disease the Dems had after 8 years of Clinton. They thought that they would get a free ride from moderates and they have become arrogant and ungrateful. Bush has been good for our world position. Like Nixon, most of his value comes from the image that he is unbalanced and thereby unpredictable. People universally fear the unpredictable. Problem with this world view is that people may fear thugs and bullies (our world image, now) but they will never respect them any longer than it takes to get out of earshot! Too bad the President has few redeeming qualities other than the politics of fear; he’s not smart, he’s not a gifted speaker, and he’s not honest. Kinda leaves the Reps holding their eggs in one frail basket (Iraq War). They must defend this basket with all their might as it’s the only basket they have left. As the toon illustrates, in the end they will need to shift blame to some other entity (press, bad weather, pinkos, etc.) for their failure to “plan to win”.

Mike’s poll is currently running 83.33% in favor and 16.67% opposed. It won’t be long and 16.67% will be Bush’s approval rating. That’s two points lower than Cheney’s current approval rating. I’m heartened by the fact that my fellow Americans are snapping out of their stupors. Even the Congressional Republicans are beginning to stand up to Bush. Then again it is an election year and they will do anything to get re-elected. If they maintain control of the House and Senate I fear it will be two more years of the same old crap. Wild Sects

Rice Hails Democratic Triumph in Chile

“Three decades after the United States tried to oust a Socialist president in Chile, Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, said Saturday’s inauguration of a socialist leader represents the triumph of democracy over a troubled history.

Shucks, I thought Condi was the only member of this administration that didn’t have her head planted firmly up her backside.

This approaches hilarity. The USA installs and supports Pinochet in power, he kills thousands of dissidents before being overthrown, and now that the Chileans elect a Socialist woman to lead them, “Democracy has triumphed”.

Some things never change, though. Chile will still get the $80 million in “drug interdiction” welfare and, of course, it will certainly be used to halt the flow of drugs into our streets as efficiently as it has for the past quarter century. (BIG laugh)

Can this administration get any more out of touch?????

I talked to an attorney, someone that one of my friends knows, and he said point blank that the post at 3/10/06 6:42 p.m. and also “Ralph” the day before is no different from race, age or gender discrimination. Basically, the way the discrimination laws are written, anything thing that you are powerless to change, cannot be used against you in a hurtful manner. He was surprised that the Atlanta Journal Constitution is still allowing this person to post because letting this go unanswered is, in a sense, condoning this type of behaviour.

Anyway, when I told him the circumstances surrounding this incident, he got angry and pretty much said that he would help us do what was necessary, and that he would be doing it pro bono. When he gets back to his office next week, he will be looking for the exact federal statute that has been violated.

I also asked him about the use of rough language on this blog and he said it is up to the AJC to establish a policy, which is what they are doing with the “censor” server. But, he also said, if Howard Stern gets away with it, so can you.

As “seeker” seeks to find a way to link his propaganda into a form that actually takes you somewhere. Let’s take a look at last night’s 6:42 from the other thread.

This is not a legal issue it’s a matter of someone with a very sick outlook. The recourse is with the AJC and whether this is the way they want their reader forums handled and if this is the level of respect they have for their readership in general. I said my piece to the 6:42 idiot and if anyone wants more I would suggest you write to the paper and to ml specifically. The “e-mail the GM” link on these blogs is worthless as all you get is a thank you note. They do have listen@ajc.com, but I don’t know if that’s any better.

Keep in mind that the AJC recourse may be worse than the problem as they may decide to make this one of the 9 to 5 monitored blogs.

finch,

Surely you jest! No wonder you don’t believe that Saddam Hussein was a threat.

The White House has done everything but drop its drawers and bend over not to “offend” and they have not even come close to using phrases like “murdering Ay-rabs”.

Let’s hear your politically-correct description of that group of men, coincidentally of the same religion, coincidentally from the Middle East, who just happened to be organized by a certain Middle-Easterner who coincidentally issued a Fatwa to kill all Americans.

I am prepared to be amused by your answer.

Meanwhile, as for “neocon”, that term implies that the person was a former progressive liberal, probably a Jew, who has had second thoughts. They hardly make up the majority of “conservatives”, although their influence is considerable.

To whom it may concern,

It has been decided that the demeaning language and insults that have been so prevalent of late on this site do not fit the image that the AJC would like to set for itself. We do not feel that responsible adults would or should conduct themselves in the fashion that has recently been apparent. For this reason we feel we must take action regarding this site. The action we wll take will be to reveal the identities and locations of the most notorious perpetrators. These are the results:

Buy Danish- Betty Davidson, unmarried pregnant member of the Daughters of the Confederacy who lives on her family’s old plantation land and blogs from her doublewide while sipping Night Train (hence the anger) because she’d rather pay for her Ford F-150 than a mortgage.

RW (the original)- Randy Wojahowski, wealthy pawn shop owner and Star Trek fanatic. Has been rejected by the KKK during various attempts to join the brotherhood. Blogs from his cot in the back of the pawn shop.

Liberals Suck- Andy McDyckhead, unemployed 23-year-old former mall security guard. Blogs from with mother’s place 24/7 between viewing various gay porn online. This is Neo Reo.

Andy- See Liberals Suck above.

Liberals Suck & Lie- see above

Scooter- Eddie Van Hagar, shoe salesman; looks up to RW and has begun a comic book collection to win his favor. Slightly sensitive for a compassionate conservative, will soon come out and prove to be a moderate. Blogs from work in between grabbing shoes from the back room.

Pinko’s Worst Nightmare- Francis Fairyboy, night club bouncer, gay basher, secretly gay himself (only bashes gays out of self loathing), high school drop out, one of RW’s disciples. He and Andy known to spend lots of time together at Piedmont Park. Blogs from Buy Danish’s trailer because he has no internet service of his own.

Semper Fi- Car salesman training to be a cage fighter, but keeps losing to Rashad, a 12-year-old yellow belt at his martial arts school. Blogs from his one bedroom condo in between reading articles in “Soldier of Fortune” magazine and training with nunchucks. This is Ralph.

Possibly Blackbeard,

I am not in the least bit anti-semitic, and have linked to countless pro-Israel articles on this blog.

Most neocons (Kristol, Horowitz, Wolfowitz et al) are Jews, as are most of the former socialists and progressives from whose ranks many of them came.

Since I am a great fan of the neo-conservatives, and consider David Horowitz a genuine modern-day hero whose efforts I actively support, I fail to see how I am anti-semitic; indeed it is logical and correct to draw the exact opposite conclusion.

And no matter what fueled the juggernaut, Bush made no effort to stop it until it was too late. Hence the 63-2 vote in the House W&M committee against the Dubai deal. Bush’s silence spoke volumes. Another example of what a lousy leader he is.

From finch’s link:

The truth is that everything the new wave of Bush critics has to say was obvious long ago to any commentator who was willing to look at the facts.

At some point in time, conservatives are going to have to face reality to move on. We should start looking for a leader to clean up the mess.

Hillary was not angry, she was right. Murtha was not unpatriotic, he was right. All W’s critics were right.

We will get it right and clean up the mess.

finch,

I give up! The Democrats were the ones who initially jumped on the Dubai ports deal issue, and the Republicans followed suit. It was Schumer who made the most blatantly “anti-Arab” comments, NOT the Bush administration.

And now Bush is responsible for the media too (assuming that you are even right in saying that there is all this “hate-speech” out there in the first place). I don’t listen to Savage, but the others are quite measured on the issue if you ask me.

We’d be fools if we didn’t recognize that there IS a problem with Islamofascism and terrorism and all the horrors that go with it, but I’m not sure what it is exactly that you expect us to say, or not say.

It’s like those “are you satisfied with the direction the country is moving in” poll questions. They give a false sense of optimism to the Dems, while the reality is that if Republican answer “No” it is because they don’t think that Bush is conservative enough.

It’s not really a bad thing when they delude themselves with polls. It gives them something to live for until reality sets in the first Tuesday in November. After they recover from that they can spin a few conspiracy theories about how the elections must have been stolen and start taking stacked polls again.

With that pleasant thought I’m going out to enjoy some of this beautiful afternoon we have been blessed with.

I agree that “pinko” is hackneyed

I suppose I owe an explanation, see I figured since the only ideas these stupid POS liberals have had since FDR was the president are-

a- Drill a hole in an unborn baby’s head and suck it’s brains out.

b- Stick their reproductive organ in another man’s digestive tract.

c- Revise history, saying McCarthy was bad and the debauch, degenerate hollywoodies were heros, see George Looney.

So this leaves me with three choices, baby killers, f-ags or pinkos. Obviously, I’ve chosen the least offensive of the three.

If any one would like to name any other ideas the democrats have had in the last 50 years, please, oh please, I would be willing to reconsider my decision.

My use of the term poision is descriptive of the state of politics today in general.

The well has been thoroughly poisioned.

That’s why the Dubai deal sunk like it did.

The administration so thoroughly poisioned the air, now anything remotely associated with Arabs is looked upon with deep suspicion and distrust.

And just who poisioned that air?

Oily politics By Thomas Sowell March 11, 2006

So we are left with nothing we can do about the rising demand for oil around the world, nothing we are willing to do about increasing the supply of oil, and angry denunciations of rising oil prices.

The politically correct answer is that we must have “alternative energy sources” and “conservation.” At what cost — in money, in jobs, in constraints on people’s lives — is too crass a question for delicate souls dead-set against producing more oil.

These souls are apparently not so delicate, however, that they are bothered by coal miners killed producing one of those “alternative energy sources” that sound so nice when you don’t count the costs.

Many of the same delicate sensitivities have kept nuclear power plants or hydroelectric dams from being built in the United States for decades. Some in liberal political or media circles talk ominously about the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant “disaster” in which no one was killed, as compared to coal mines, in which lives continue to be lost, year after year.

Meanwhile, the fetishes of a self-congratulatory few, who demonize others as selfish, impose staggering costs on the country as a whole. Facts get nowhere against these fetishes because the fetishes provide a badge of identity for wonderful and special people.

Lost art of the apology By Victor Davis Hanson March 11, 2006

Former President Jimmy Carter lately has become another international scold. While not offering so many literal apologies, he has made it clear to the world he regrets deeply the transgressions of other Americans — whether for wiretaps or setting up detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay. He rarely mentions the Iranian hostage crisis, double-digit inflation and interest rates, Soviet expansionism, or any of the other lapses on his own watch.

(2) Don’t apologize for the sins of others long past. Mr. Clinton in a few words can hardly atone for centuries of the tragedy that was slavery. He would be better off apologizing for things he could have controlled — such as forbidding vulnerable U.S. forces in Somalia to use tanks or ordering missile strikes against a probable pharmaceutical factory in Sudan.

(5) War is the wrong time to start apologizing. Gen. George Marshall did not tell the Germans in 1943 that we were sorry for previously harassing German Americans in 1917. Nor during the Cuban missile crisis did President Kennedy offer Nikita Khrushchev remorse that we tried to subvert the Russian revolution in 1918-20. There is a proper occasion for voicing collective regret, and wartime is not it.

In the old days, apologies — said once, without an agenda and involving one’s own sins — revealed character. Now too often they reflect just the opposite.

Buy Danish, Cheney has done everything in his power to foster a climate of fear and hatred of Muslims. You should go back and read conservative blogs from the year after September 11. Our President has not made any real effort to stop him. After all, his only remaining perceived strength is in protecting us from those very same feared and hated Muslims. Every discussion about preventing terrorism walks perilously close to the line of discriminating against Muslims. The administration has encouraged this paranoia because it is their only connection with the majority of Americans. Their are some legitimate issues, such as how realistic is it to use “profiles” in deciding how to best protect our country from terrorism, but if you read through any conservative blog, I think you will find the consistent message is that all Muslims are suspect. It is a message that has been implictly encouraged by our present administration in a futile attempt to shore up an unpopular president’s ratings.

America Duped Into Economic Pessimissm

Missing The Boom Posted 3/10/2006

Economy: With rising incomes, soaring wealth, bigger and better homes, plenty of jobs and low inflation, we may be living in the most prosperous time ever. Yet chances are you don’t believe it one bit.

The economy isn’t perfect, of course. But it’s a long way from bad — a long, long way. We ponder this as a new employment report comes out, showing 243,000 new payroll jobs in February even as the number of people re-entering the labor market swelled by nearly 350,000.

So before the data are spun beyond recognition by others, let’s recount the good news: Since May 2003, when President Bush’s tax cuts became law, the U.S. has created 4.7 million jobs. Payrolls have now expanded for 30 straight months. The jobless rate, though up a tick at 4.8%, is still near its five-year low.

Investors Business Daily

By Liberals Suck And Lie

March 11, 2006 07:36 PM | Link to this

Why the gloom? Much of it, no doubt, stems from misreporting by the media. Against the backdrop of surging payrolls, for example, we keep seeing story after story, in print and on TV, about job “losses.”

A recent study by the Media Research Center bears this out. It looked at TV news coverage of jobs in 2005 — 151 stories in all — carried on all three major networks.

This, mind you, was a year that saw the creation of 2 million new jobs, the addition of $350 billion to gross domestic product and an increase of $2 trillion in the value of household financial assets.Yet more than half of the networks’ job reports focused on losses, not gains — a picture that wasn’t just distorted, but wrong.

Americans deserve better. In fact, they may already know better. The same polls, including ours, in which Americans indicate they are down on the economy in general also show they are upbeat about their own financial situation.

This, more than anything else, may indicate that Americans are being influenced too much by mainstream media outlets that would rather be wrong than acknowledge that an economic boom is under way.

There’s a reason why Americans have grim forebodings about the economy, despite the blue smoke and mirrors numbers from IBD and WSJ.

Real family income in the US is dropping. People are spending more than they’re saving. Energy costs more as big oil profits skyrocket. The 2nd mortgage bailout of consumer debt is turning into a trapdoor as adjustible mortgage payments increase. Solid middle class positions are being replaced by minimum wage jobs as work is outsourced. Trumpet all the stats you want about lower unemployment, rising overall income, and so on… it can’t mask reality.

Average Americans are looking in their wallets, seeing moths fly out, and asking themselves, “Are we better off then we were 5 years ago? 3 years ago?”

And the answer is no. Personal experience trumps egghead statistics every time.

U.S. Starts Laying Groundwork for Significant Troop Pullout From Iraq

In a departure from previous statements, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said this week that the training of Iraqi soldiers had advanced so far that the current number of U.S. troops in the country probably would not be needed much longer.

The developments seemed to lay the groundwork for potentially large withdrawals in 2006 and 2007, consistent with scenarios outlined by Pentagon planners. The approach also tracks the thinking of some centrist Democrats, such as Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, the senior representative of his party on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Jnj, there is no advantage to setting a date. Since the US is in Iraq, I would oppose setting a date. I was responding to Sucks’ declaration that a date had been set.

Suck offers this to buttress his argument:

The developments seemed to lay the groundwork for potentially large withdrawals in 2006 and 2007

“seemed to”? “lay the groundwork”? “potentially?” There are more equivocations in that one sentence than you’ll find in a tentful of fortune tellers. I really think Sucks should drink less…

Buy Danish - Your 9:33 post echoes the declarations of right wing politicians and radio talkers that doomed the Dubai deal (a deal that both Jimmy Carter and Rush Limbaugh agreed was a pretty good one). Declarations that went unchallenged by the White House.

It hasn’t been liberals or Democrats fanning the Muslim-bashing flames. It’s been Bush Republicans, who seem to have forgotten that only a handful of the world’s 1.1 billion Muslims want to kill us.

It turns out the Bush administration’s “3 Stooges”, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz once endorsed selling nuclear technology to Iran!

I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Amusingly enough, Sure-shot, Dickie and Wolfie dismissed arguments back then that, since Iran was floating on a sea of oil, it needed nuclear energy about as much as Egypt needs sand.

That’s a solid argument today. Why did “The 3 Stooges” choose to dismiss it back then?

finch,

I hadn’t planned to post here tonight, but since “warped sense of reality” thinks I’ve been here anyway I’ll take a shot at your time machine scenario.

In 1974 they could probably see the coming oil shortage and knew that if we could allow a peaceful Iran to have this technology we would in turn have an ample supply of oil. I think we can probably agree that Iran circa 1974 was a much different place than Iran today. It was one of the few things they thought could get Gerald Ford elected for once. (It’s quite a small club of people that have been VP and President and not been elected to either.)

In hindsight nothing could be done to get Ford elected. The only hope then was that Carter wouldn’t turn Iran into such an out and out disaster.

Why do you (and this time I mean you) and others of your political persuasion make such good use of hindsight and very rarely offer any foresight?

finch - You really do work overtime to defend your arguments. The problem is that your focus is on the administration when it should be on the individual.

I refer to your 8:26 p.m. post last night:

Real family income in the US is dropping. People are spending more than they’re saving.

You would have us believe that when given the opportunity of tax cuts, the administration should force people to be financially responsible and invest in the opportunity. I see this as a missed opportunity by the individual. But then I can think for myself.

Energy costs more as big oil profits skyrocket.

This could, and should, have been addressed many administrations ago, but the enviro-kooks who are supported by the liberal faction of the democratic party keep throwing up obstacles. Thank you finch and comrades.

Solid middle class positions are being replaced by minimum wage jobs as work is outsourced.

By the Los Angeles Times- U.S. Starts Laying Groundwork for Significant Troop Pullout From Iraq- by Paul Richter and Tyler Marshall

WASHINGTON — Even as debate over the Iraq war continues to rage, signs are emerging of a convergence of opinion on how the Bush administration might begin to exit the conflict.

In a departure from previous statements, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said this week that the training of Iraqi soldiers had advanced so far that the current number of U.S. troops in the country probably would not be needed much longer.

The administration’s pivot on the issue comes as the White House is seeking to relieve enormous pressure by war opponents. The camp includes liberals, moderates and old-line conservatives who are uneasy with the costly and uncertain nation-building effort.

It also follows agreement this week among Iraqi politicians that the U.S. troop presence ought to decrease. In private conversations, Iraqi officials discussed a possible two-year withdrawal period, analysts said.

Some analysts say the emerging consensus might have less to do with conditions in Iraq than the deployment’s long-term strain on the U.S. military. And major questions about the readiness of Iraq’s fledgling security forces remain, posing risks for any strategy that calls for an accelerated American withdrawal.

As recently as late September, senior U.S. military commanders said during a congressional hearing that just one Iraqi battalion, about 700 soldiers, was considered capable of undertaking combat operations fully independent of U.S. support. Administration officials now dismiss that measure of readiness, saying more Iraqi units are able to conduct advanced operations each day.

A former top Pentagon official who served during Bush’s first term said he believed there was a “growing consensus” on withdrawing about 40,000 troops before next year’s congressional election. That would be followed by further substantial pullouts in 2007 if it became clear that Iraqi forces could contain the insurgency.

“You’ve got the convergence of domestic pressures, Iraqi pressures and Pentagon [withdrawal] plans that have been in the works for a while,” said the former official, who requested anonymity. “This is serious.”

A senior U.S. official said that in signaling hopes for a large drawdown next year, Rice was only “stating the obvious” this week.

Later you said, You can’t have it both ways. Either Bush is right in saying that not all Muslims are our enemies or you are totally wrong in saying they are. Make up your mind.

Show me ONE statement that Cheney or Bush made to support your wild accusations. There has been no demagoguery from this administration. They have repeated the “Islam is a religion of peace” line ad nauseum, and they call it a “War on Terror” which is bland and “unoffensive” a label as you can get.

The American people know what happened on 9/11; they know what happened for decades prior to 9/11; they know what events have occured since 9/11. We do not need talk radio hosts or bloggers or anyone else to define it for us, and we do not blame all muslims. Believe it or not, most of us are capable of discernment, and are not so ignorant as to scapegoat an entire religion or region. I wish that the same could be said for your side and the all-encompassing bigotry that you have for Conservatives.

Unlike you, I can correctly identify the enemy (and it is not just Osama Bin Laden as finch claims), nor is it George Bush, Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld.

For you to claim that the administration encourages anti-muslim demagoguery to keep their poll numbers up is a vile and unfounded accusation, and if anyone is paranoid, it seems to me that that would be YOU.

You want everything laid out in p.c. terms that are so rigid that it is impossible to have a discussion without your claiming that there is some sort of muslim-bashing and discrimiation going on.

Your side refuses to put the blame where it lies, which is in the lap of radical Islam. Your side has decided that “neocons” or “Christinas” are the enemy and all your energies are directed at defeating them.

It doesn’t matter how much evidence there is to support why we are in Iraq, your side dismisses it all as a “Bush lie”. You’re willing to let UN resolutions mean diddly squat, let dictators who threaten their neighbors remain in power. Yoy hope for a civil war in Iraq so you can claim a personal victory. You ignore the presense of Zarqawi in Iraq. You ignore the historical alliance that Hussein had with terrorists, including the martyr money that he doled out like candy to Palestian suicide bombers. You inflame the muslim world by encouraging propaganda that blames the US for 9/11, and then turn around and say that Bush didn’t “connect the dots” and that HE is fomenting fear and hatred.

You want the American people to entrust your side with National Security?

To: Real conservatives aren’t People The great party of Ronald Reagan?!!! MYGOD! And I used to think it was the party of Lincoln! Reagan was a buffoon and the first in a now long line of gutless, war-promoting GOP chickenhawks who “conserved” nothing. Under his “leadership” he doubled the national debt, as a percentage of the economy, before Clinton was able to bring it back under control. Reagan vetoed Congress’s passed sanctions against the apartheid government of South Africa. His administration cuddled up with the fascists in Argentina and backed militaries in El Salvador and Guatemala that massacred civilians. He tried to normalize relations with the beloved tyrant Augusto Pinochet. He sent King George the First to the Philippines, where the VP toasted dictator Ferdinand Marcos for fostering “democracy.” And, of course, there were his beloved Contras in Nicaragua, which he paid for in part by selling illegal arms to Iran, of all f**king places! His Attorney General, Edwin Meese, openly had little use for civil liberties, saying, “You don’t have many suspects who are innocent of a crime.” His Interior Secretary, James Watt, was easily the worst ever and gave rise to the new Republican hatred of all things green, clean or living. And Ronnie’s inaction and bigotry against gays is well documented. No wonder hate speech and hate think is so rampant on the far right now! He absolutely “created the conditions which made possible the crimes committed by others” and his administration is memorable for a widespread lack of ethical standards. He weakened workplace safety standards. He presided over an S&L scandal that stuck taxpayers with a bill approaching a trillion dollars and he tried to gut the Civil Rights Commission. He was also the first to openly suck up to the Christian madmen in this country. But the most disturbing thing to me was watching so many young people buying into his horseshit. So now, to paraphrase a famous quote from the 60s, “Don’t trust any one under 30!” And now castoff goons from his era (Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al)are still royally screwing this nation up!!! So PLEASE, pull your head out of the sand and spare us your mis-guided crap about this guy!

JJG should be given the Post of the Day award for a masterful job of tying the Reagan myth into the Bush myth. The old Lincoln saying about fooling the people is as true today as ever. Unfortunately, it appears you can fool 51% of the people for up to eight years at a stretch. Longer, if you happen to work for most mainstream media sources. Maybe they’ve been bought off, maybe they can’t pass up the opportunity to be self-righteous or maybe they’ve just taken advantage of their cherished benefits packages and gotten elective lobotomies. Whatever the case, many editorials in the last week have been as politically tone deaf as the Bush administration on this Dubai ports deal. Bush got a huge assist from the mainstream media in his post 9/11 fearmongering, and they bought into the absurd concept of the “War on Terror” enmasse with out a thought. If reaction to 9/11 had been a war on al Qaida and a call for courage and properly vented anger, the Dubai deal would have sailed through without a peep. Instead, with history as it was deliberately constructed, the ports deal rubbed the people’s noses in the very same snake oil they’ve been fed since 9/11. In otherwords, after all the “you’re with us or against us” crap we’ve heard relentlessly, the detention without due process of anyone who has ever heard of Allah and nodding and winking over torture, what the hell does Bush and press expect from the public? I’ll bet there are many citizens of this country who are just a few more accusitory words away from a Judeo-Christian version of the cartoon riots. Maybe it was a misunderstanding, but if you go back and read that post, it was in response to a post pointing out how Americans have become polarized against all Muslims. You jumped in with that statement. In that context, you seemed to be supporting the notion that Muslims, not radical Muslims, were responsible for all those atrocities.

Bush has been very careful to give the message that we are not in a war with all Muslims. Not so others in his administration. While Cheney was tieing Iraq to September 11, Bush was consistently denying it. The end result is that most people believe Iraq was responsible for September 11th. There are more blatant examples, but that one alone should suffice for any thinking person. Confusing messages like that serve the purpose of creating fear. The end result is debacles like Dubai.

Now these same people are trying to make us think they have acted in a reasonable and responsible manner. Washington State,

It wasn’t just the right wing blogosphere that stereotyped Muslims as no-conscience killers who wanted the US, Israel, and all Christians dead. It was right wing pundits like O’Reilly, Hannity, Savage…

And Ann Coulter.

“As my regular readers know, I’ve long been skeptical of the “Religion of Peace” moniker for Muslims — for at least 3,000 reasons right off the top of my head.”

While President Bush was giving lip service to the concept of “tolerance” towards Islam, his supporters in the right-wing media were gleefully stereotyping Muslims as homicidal maniacs. Significantly, not once did the White House suggest that they “tone it down”.

The chickens are coming home to roost. The furor over the Dubai deal is just a preview.

It’s not just Coulter & Co. Right wing blogs revel in Islamo-phobia, which the Bush administration and it’s supporters seem loathe to question.

Clueless,

What out of context sentence are you compaining about? This one - Bush has been very careful to give the message that we are not in a war with all Muslims?

Other than that sentence, and an earlier statement where you said that you favored profiling, everything that you have said either explicitly or implicitly states that the Bush Administration have been fanning flames of anti-Muslim hatred, which is a CROCK.

You claim that Cheney is encouraging anti-Muslim sentiment because he doesn’t discount the possibility that there was a relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda. Sorry, but I’m missing the anti-muslim part of this.

finch,

Largely unnoticed in this spectacle is the blinding fact that one nation is missing from the long list of Muslim countries (by which I mean France and England) with hundreds of crazy Muslims experiencing bipolar rage over some cartoons: Iraq. Hey — maybe this democracy thing does work! The barbaric behavior of Europe’s Muslims suggests that the European welfare state may not be attracting your top-notch Muslims.

From Ann Coulter. All Muslims? No, just the ones who want to destroy us.

Really, you cannot possibly believe that there is a way to remove any and all discussion of Islam and Muslims from the mix do you?

What do you want exactly? To level the playing field, we should cite the phrase “Islam is a religion of Peace” as often as Bin Laden says “We will destroy the infidels, God willing?”

finch,

From the Steyn article you linked to Lucianne to paint your world view for us. Also available here.

Meanwhile, a new Washington Post/ABC poll finds that, in the words of the Post, “nearly half of Americans — 46 percent — have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Muslims were often targeted for violence.”

Often” targeted? Want to put some hard numbers on that? Like to compare the “violence” Americans perpetrated on Muslims after the slaughter of thousands of their fellow citizens in the name of Allah with, say, the death toll perpetrated by Muslims annoyed over some itsy-bitsy cartoons in an obscure Danish newspaper? In September 2001, 99.99999 percent of Americans behaved with remarkable forbearance. If they’re less inclined to give the benefit of the doubt these days, perhaps it’s because of casual slurs like the Post’s or the no-jihad-to-see-here-folks tone of the Times.

There is a big difference between pointing out who is perpetrating these acts and painting the entire Muslim world as terrorists.

Your way is the path to dhimmitude, our way puts pressure on peaceful Muslims to step up and quell this uprising within it’s ranks. It is there and it isn’t insensitive to point it out. It’s kind of like the way liberals make it easy for people to sponge of the state, you want to make it easy for Muslims to pretend no problem exists.

Car Bombs Kill 44, Wound More Than 200 in Iraq Sunday, March 12, 2006

The attackers struck with car bombs, including a suicide driver, and mortars at the peak shopping time, destroying dozens of market stalls and vehicles as the explosives ripped through the poor neighborhood as residents were buying food for their evening meals.

The nature of the attack, its use of a suicide bomber, bore the hallmarks of Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has said it hoped to start a Shiite-Sunni civil conflict.

Cowards.

Meanwhile, the victory in Iraq marches towards it’s foregone conclusion:

The political leaders said they would open marathon meetings on Monday in an attempt to reach agreement on a new government. Khalilzad said he would be available to join the talks at any time.

Khalilzad said a permanent government needed to be in place quickly to fill the “vacuum in authority” at a time of continuing effort by “terrorists to provoke sectarian conflict.”

Cheer up, pinkos, I’m sure Al Qaeda will keep killing innocent women and children, giving you something to beat Bush and America about.

Sen. Feingold to Seek Censure of Bush Sunday, March 12, 2006

WASHINGTON — A liberal Democratic senator who is considering a White House bid in 2008 said Sunday he is seeking to censure President Bush over his domestic eavesdropping program. The Senate majority leader called it “a crazy political move.”

For which he should get his balls cut off in public for.

A censure resolution, which simply would scold the president, has been used just once in U.S. history — against Andrew Jackson in 1834.

Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, a longtime critic of the Bush administration, said he hoped a censure would cause Bush to apologize for the warrantless surveillance that he put in place on his own after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

This is the same dude that authored legislation that is a clear violation of the First Amendment that being McCain Feingold. When do we “censor” him?

That’s supposed to be our one good strength, we’re the ones who poll best in the ‘War Against Terror’!”

  • Repugs fall all over themselves trying to sooth the morons in Redstateland by stating they’re not ‘rubber stamps’ for the P(r)esident…”I stood up to him…!” The hollow thumping of chicken-hearted chests will reverberate across the land.

Katrina: Because Bush didn’t stop it in the Gulf? Because Nagin refused Bush’s advice to evacuate? Because the pinkos are suing the rebuilding efforts trying to stop them?

Prescription Drugs: Because Bush doesn’t deliver the largest increase in entitlement spending to the front door of these incompetent stupid POS liberals? They have to think about the free money?

The War in Iraq: Freeing 25 million people from tyranny offends the democrats, I guess the pinkos thought they were better off getting gassed and raped.

Leave No Child Behind: Written by Ted Kennedy. Hijacked by the teacher’s union. How in the h-ell can a teacher be making $90,000 a year given the state of American education?

Dubai Port Scandal: After the bigoted racism displayed by the camera hog democratic party, we can sure look forward to all kinds of Arab countries wanting to be our partners.

“Much of the reporting has exaggerated the situation,” Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Tuesday. “The number of attacks on mosques had been exaggerated. The number of Iraqi deaths had been exaggerated. The behavior of the Iraqi security forces had been mischaracterized.”

For instance, The Washington Post reported on Feb. 25 that 120 Sunni mosques had been attacked in retaliation for the destruction of the Golden Mosque, holy to the Shiites. In a March 3 news conference, Gen. George Casey, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, said:

“We can confirm attacks on about 30 mosques around the country, with less than 10 of those mosques moderately damaged, and only two or three severely damaged. We visited eight mosques (in Baghdad) that were reportedly damaged. We found one broken window in those eight mosques.”

Exaggeration and misinformation are hallmarks of chaotic situations, and it is hard for journalists who do most of their reporting from the safety of their hotels to sort fact from fiction. But Secretary Rumsfeld noticed a pattern in the errors:

“Interestingly, all the exaggerations seem to be on one side,” he said. “The steady stream of errors all seem to be of a nature to inflame the situation and give heart to the terrorists.”

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, “What is politics?”

Dad says, “Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I’m the breadwinner of the family, so let’s call me capitalism. Your Mom, she’s the administrator of the money, so we’ll call her the Government. We’re here to take care of your needs, so we’ll call you the people. The nanny, we’ll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we’ll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense.” So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said.

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents’ room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, “Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.” The father says, “Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.”

The little boy replies, “Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep s**.”

Gulf regards DP World outcry as ‘racist’ By Edmund Conway in Bahrain Filed: 13/03/2006

One of Bahrain’s top politicians has warned that the US row surrounding DP World’s takeover of P&O has taken on a worryingly racist tenor.

Asked whether it was fair that many were describing the US reaction as racist, he said: “Absolutely, but it’s something we can’t speak about. I think it was a shame. The DP World deal was a good deal. But this is politics.”

Tapes reveal WMD plans by Saddam By Rowan Scarborough THE WASHINGTON TIMES March 13, 2006

Some pundits and recently retired military officers are convinced that Saddam moved his remaining weapons to Syria. They cite satellite photos of lines of trucks heading into the neighboring country before the invasion and the fact Saddam positioned his trusted Iraqi Intelligence Service agents at border crossings.

Mr. Duelfer said there were promising leads that weapons of mass destruction did go into Syria, but the security situation prevented him from closing the loop. Mr. Duelfer concluded that Saddam planned to resume weapons of mass destruction production once the United Nations lifted economic sanctions.

Mr. Tierney said he thinks the regime poured chemical weapons into lakes and rivers and sent other stocks over the border to Syria. Mr. Tierney served as a U.N. weapons inspector in the 1990s.

“The ISG, they were lied to in a very systematic way,” he said. “Lying. They were very good at it.”

Mr. Feingold’s proposal to censure Mr. Bush, which drew no immediate support from other lawmakers, seems to have little prospect of passing through the Senate or the House, both of which are under Republican control. However, it could step up pressure on prominent Democratic figures to accede to liberal activists who are intensifying their calls for stronger rhetoric and action against Mr. Bush.

    Who’s the extremists?

Senator Warner of Virginia warned that talk of censure could undermine Mr. Bush’s ability to deal with foreign governments. “That was political grandstanding and it tends to weaken our president,” Mr. Warner said during an appearance on CNN.

Finally a democrat that cares more about his country then making mindless grabs for power. I must say, honestly, that I am shocked, shocked that liberals can even remember how to be civil and govern in the best interests of the United States.

I still haven’t read Bookman’s column but I can just imagine. Talk about taking all of your credibility and flushing it down the toilet.

I’m not going to read the column so someone tell me if I’m correct- Karl Rove kidnapped Pat Tillman, took him to a ranch in Texas where Cheney “accidently” shot him to death and they threw him out of an airplane over Afghanistan so that they could call him a hero?

At best, these are conservative figures. Which is to say, these figures represent the minimal prcentages of FF casualties on record so far. As additional friendly fire incidents are discovered these figures will increase, not decrease.

    In Whose Interest?

By LAWRENCE MONE March 13, 2006

As the mid-term election campaign gears up, Democrats are braying that Republicans have been corrupted by “special interests,” such as big pharma and big oil. But the Democrats throwing these stones live in a glass house. Washington spends more than a trillion taxpayer dollars a year on policies generated by left-wing lobbies that miseducate children, extort businesses, and disempower the poor. The media-stoked claim that Republicans are puppets of “special interests,” while Democrats are champions of “public” interests, is an illusion that America can no longer afford.

Nowhere is this illusion more costly than in the case of the trial lawyers. In 2003, the American Trial Lawyers Association was the third most generous political action committee in the country, controlling $2.8 million. Eighty-nine percent of that cash went to Democrats, making ATLA the largest political action committee contributor to the Democrats. All told, the litigation industry has contributed a staggering $470 million to federal campaigns since 1990.

Before 1965, most social-services agencies were privately organized and funded, and had little stake in government spending policies. As this industry grew, however, it became a natural ally of the Democratic Party in efforts to increase the size of government. Today, these advocacy groups not only lobby for more government social programs, they effectively run them. It’s in their interest to support expanded government funding, because these advocacy groups’ livelihoods are tied to those funds.

The social-services sector now numbers 3.3 million workers, most of them funded by government. But the $520 billion we spend each year for a myriad of welfare and related human services has had little real impact on poverty. Our safety net has been notable primarily for the propensity of the poor to become entangled in it. Yet when the historic 1996 Welfare Reform Act sought to break the cycle of dependency and move people into the world of work, nearly half of the House Democrats opposed the legislation - even though Bill Clinton was one of its most vocal proponents.

Everyone knows that the history of war is written by the victors. But the war in Iraq has shattered that truism. In Iraq, history is being written by the losers. Baathist kidnappers and jihadist bombers are planning their operations not to win the war in Iraq, but to win it in America. To that end, they are assessing what American news organizations are willing to cover, and what American reporters are willing to risk. As an immediate result, many of the feeds on the nightly news are coming from Arabic sources that are either non-professional in their journalistic standards or hostile to American policy aims. As a long-term result, the American public is broadly misinformed on a war that Coalition arms and Iraqi democrats are, in fact, winning.

Well, LSAL, it appears you’re still trying to keep the WMD lies alive. It may come as a shock to you but the fact that trucks existed in Iraq is enough to suggest that they were routinely used to carry goods (plain old “stuff”) around Iraq and into and out of Syria and other neighboring countries. With the war clearly coming private owners of goods would want to get them away from the site of the conflict. That trucks drove to Syria is akin to the sun coming up: the trucks have no evidentiary value. There is zero, zip, nada that indicates what the contents of any of those trucks was. You can’t even show the trucks had any contents: they could have been moved to Syria to remove the trucks from harm’s way. If you can’t actually show that any truck contained any WMD or WMD production equipment then you have no proof whatsoever. You can’t, you don’t. The “trucks to Syria” fable is one of the thinnest straws the right is grasping.

In addition, if Bush were actually attacking Iraq because of the danger the WMD posed he clearly screwed up if the WMD went, as you claim, to Syria. Quite obviously the planners of the invasion paid no attention at all to the possibility that the WMD they claimed existed would be taken form the country. Of course they also paid no visible attention to the possibility that after the Iraqi army was defeated the arsenals of conventional explosives would be emptied so the lack of planning was, for this war, routine.

But when it comes to lies the big liars are in the administration. The administration forced the CIA to issue a ridiculous white paper that purported to conclude that the hydrogen-generation trailers found in Iraq were actually mobile biological WMD culture units. That conclusion was reached without any fact at all in support of the conclusion. Even better, the subsequent Duelfer report, also form the CIA, professionally and thoroughly shows why the evidence indicates the trailers were for hydrogen manufacture. That administration lie still stinks, still demonstrates that the administration willingly and deliberately forced the CIA to tell a crude and unsupportable lie with the urpose of continuing to deceive Americans willing to be deceived.

The cooling unit that the white paper makes os much of is a routine and necessary component for a system that produces hydrogen by the reaction used. I’m a chemist, I’ve run that reaction, I know about the heat released. Without the cooling unit the reacting mixture would boil, forcing “caustic” (the obscurationist term used in the white paper for plain old lye) through the system, corroding vales and pumps.

If you want to make a TRWLR (typical right-wing lame response) you can go to the CIA web site, read the white paper, and try to claim some part of it is valid. You cannot find any evidence there or anywhere else to support the “conclusion” of that white paper.

Jay Bookman wrote about that years ago, BTW.

N-GA - My posts are going to be hit & miss today. I’m at work. In response to your 10:55—

I refuse to commit all blame to one individual as you do. It takes on the appearance of “personal vendetta.”

It has been said that Congress is a great stampede of lips directed at the nearest derriere. Now there is a worthwhile truism; and it applies to both parties. Look at the ports deal. Big mistake IMO.

Bush tried to implement changes in Social Security and Medicare. Why did it fail?

Because, if it is an unpopular issue, the pursed lips will go with their opportunity for re-election rather than stand on principal and do what is right. That’s politics!

Oddly enough, when I find a politician that rejects that way of doing things, he has my respect and support. I like a political rebel because anything else is just self-serving and I find that highly suspect.

BTW, the manner in which you direct some of your responses (name-calling) can discredit your argument. It displays a “personal vendetta” fueled by emotion and not logic. But this is a free country and you can project yourself anyway you want.

    It’s me again!:

Here’s the ultimate irony: Feminists are anti-feminine. They reject hearth and home, procreation and childrearing (unless it’s done by “professionals”). They deny the maternal instinct. They condemn the feminine urge to nurture and to create a safe haven from the perils of modern life. (They also deny the male imperative to serve and protect.) Everything that’s distinctive about their sex, they abhor.

Because they hate their nature, they are self-loathing. Most are miserable — and deservedly so.

For almost 20 years, I worked in a newsroom with these resentful, envious, humorless harpies. An uglier lot you will never find — this side of “Alien vs. Predator.”

Most were deeply unhappy with their lives, always ready to take offense at imaginary slights, convinced that any lack of advancement was due to a chauvinist conspiracy and angry at those who challenged feminist dogma. They were about as much fun as Hillary on a bad hair day (speaking of resentful, envious, humorless harpies).

Who in their right mind would take life advice from such spiritually misshapen creatures? ABC News, of course.

This is not evidence that rape is being used as a tactic in jihad. What I see are heartbreaking stories from women who were raped by apolitical, non-religious thugs, doing what thugs everywhere do to their own neighbors, in their own neighborhood. Shoot them all.

It’s interesting to note that western women kidnapped by jihadists aren’t sexually assaulted. Oh, they’re murdered, for sure. But they’re not raped.

After serious thought from my deep study at the Whoopee Law School of Internet Degrees where I spent two whole days of intense intellectual activity, I have decided this: Who knows?

But I think that Conservative Swallow thinks that we should KNOW that anything President Bush does is a CRIME but we act like we don’t KNOW because it isn’t a crime and therefore we don’t call it a crime but Conservative Swallow from Capistrano thinks just the opposite which mean 1 + 1 = Double Standard because C-swallow thinks all conservatives lead double lives and therefore she must straighten us out before she flies south.

    AC/DC- GIRLS GOT RHYTHM Lyrics

I’ve been around the world, I’ve seen a million girls Ain’t one of them got, What, my lady, she’s got She’s stealin’ the spotlight, Knocks me off my feet She’s enought to start a landslide, Just a walkin’ down the street Wearin’ dresses too tight, And lookin’ dynamite Enough to blow me out, No doubt about it, can’t live without it

[Chorus] The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) She’s got the backseat rhythm! (Backseat rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! Oh!

She’s like a lethal brand, Too much for any man She gave me first-degree, She really satisfied me Loves me till I’m lifeless, Achin’, and sore Enough to stop a freight train, Or start the Third World War You know I’m losin’ sleep, But I’m in too deep Like a body needs blood, No doubt about it, can’t live without it

[Chorus] The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) She’s got the backseat rhythm! (Backseat rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! Ow!

    [Instrumental Intermission]

You know she moves like sin, And when she lets me in It’s like liquid love, No doubt about it, can’t live without it

[Chorus] The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) She’s got the backseat rhythm! (Backseat rhythm!) The girl’s got rhythm! (Girl’s got rhythm!) Saddam’s primary goal from 1991 to 2003 was to have UN sanctions lifted, while maintaining the security of the Regime. He sought to balance the need to cooperate with UN inspections—to gain support for lifting sanctions—with his intention to preserve Iraq’s intellectual capital for WMD with a minimum of foreign intrusiveness and loss of face. Indeed, this remained the goal to the end of the Regime, as the starting of any WMD program, conspicuous or otherwise, risked undoing the progress achieved in eroding sanctions and jeopardizing a political end to the embargo and international monitoring.

The introduction of the Oil-For-Food program (OFF) in late 1996 was a key turning point for the Regime. OFF rescued Baghdad’s economy from a terminal decline created by sanctions. The Regime quickly came to see that OFF could be corrupted to acquire foreign exchange both to further undermine sanctions and to provide the means to enhance dual-use infrastructure and potential WMD-related development.

Having said that, I’m getting genuinely insane e-mail following a few Atrios postings about my “Who the heck is Claude Allen” posts in the past few days—e-mails accusing me of “lying” to “cover up” for the White House and then cursing me out in the language of eleven year-olds (I know who did it, I know!.) This suggests to me that the next few weeks are going to feature some wild theorizing according to which Karl Rove and the President assigned Claude Allen to steal from Target. The Bush haters can’t even allow themselves to enjoy their Schadenfreude.

Midori - nice to see you. And the cap-wearing little men who attack you. They become aggressive this time of day as they sip their life-support.

Hey! Today Bushie said problems in Iraq are the fault of…Iran! Makes sense to me. Let’s have our ghost army invade Iran tomorrow. Past due time to impeach Bush, imprison Bush, consider executing Bush.

I see that lil Dusty is out for “dinner.” What do you suppose white-trash eat for dinner?? Shucks - wish I could spend more time here. But I’m off to pick up my tunafish. I’ve not read the details - are we supposed to get new or used tunafish? “Freedom and Democracy are on the march!”

Do not EVER use anything other than Lee Greenwood and Loretta Lynn lyrics. Sorry….been busy today…happy to be back.

I suspect OO is not around now. She opined what she thought I must be like in a post some other day. I was thinking about what she must be like. Came up with this:

Perhaps you’ve seen a movie titled “About Schmidt”. Now then, Jack Nicholson’s character is relaxing in an outdoor hot tub. A character played by Kathy Bates approaches the hot tub, drops her towel, and gets in the hot tub.

That image of OO is BURNED into my retinas.

As I’ve mentioned before, you’ve been pulling this crap for several months now.

So indicative of you and your party — you always need someone, anyone to beat up on. Anything to take the attention away from yourself.

Next thing you’ll be demanding a DNA sample from me.

SS&S….You’re correct…..I do attack, but only those deserving of it.

Andy/LS&L/etc. is the focus of much of my venom because he feels he can use words like “pinko” with impunity. He is a Bed Wetter who wakes up in the middle of the night screaming that we are being invaded by terrorists. He is the first person in line to cede our personal freedoms to this fascist administration.

RW and I exchange a few barbs, but I respect his intellect, though I do question the way in which he dodges certain issues…too professional….perhaps on the payroll of a conservative think tank.

I nailed OO recently because she chose to attack me. No explanation necessary.

If you read all my posts, you will understand that I seek only the truth, and I hope others will acknowledge it rather than try to spin it. I have been an Independent since 1970, when I was a GI trying to understand how my government had stuck it to me and realized that Dems & Reps had put me there.

I have overcome that anger, but remain Independent. So I feel free and qualified to criticize any administration for its failures and/or shortcomings. This administration provides a neverending supply of both.

Bush: Iraqi Unity Defies Insurgents Monday, March 13, 2006

WASHINGTON — Perpetrators of violence in Iraq are trying to provoke a civil war to prevent democracy from blooming in the Arab nation, but Iraqis aren’t being led into it, President Bush said Monday.

The restraint called for by sectarian leaders in the face of massive provocation, particularly after the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Sumarra last month, shows that the Iraqis are committed to freedom, he said.

Nonetheless, he said, “terrorists are losing on the field of battle so they are fighting this war though the pictures we see on the television and in the newspapers every day. They’re hoping to shake our resolve and force our retreat. They are not going to succeed.”

    JJG,

Sorry to diabuse you of your really stupid stereotypes, but I worked in the record industry for nearly 20 years in big old New York City - not in Nashville. I guarantee you that I count more “recording artists” and other “industry types” as friends than you can ever dream of.

Like myself, conservatives in general are very fond of people like Bob Dylan, and I don’t know a one who burned anyone’s records, although I’ll admit that I did intentionally break a copy of “Inna Godda Da vida Baby” once.

Earlier today I posted the following problems I blame completely on this administration:

  • Iraq - bad war, unwinnable

  • Deficit - bigger than ever

  • Social Security - still not fixed

  • Medicare - still not fixed

  • OBL - still missing in action

  • Trade deficit - bigger than ever

  • Corruption - at the highest levels

  • World opinion - America is arrogant

  • Energy - the real raping of Americans

  • Education - getting dumber every day

  • Environment - corporate-friendly policy

  • Why can’t there be a dialog between people that agree that these problems are REAL? Then focus on what should be done to fix them. Remember, the GOP controls BOTH houses of Congress.

Poll: Bush approval rating hits new low

By Mark Memmott, USA TODAY President Bush’s “approval rating” has sunk to a new low according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll released Monday.

The latest results show only 36% of those polled saying they “approve” of the way Bush is handling his job. Bush’s previous low was 37%, set last November.

Sixty percent of those polled said they “disapprove” of Bush’s performance. That matches an all-time worst rating hit last November and again two weeks ago.

Democrats have their biggest advantage since 1992 when poll respondents are asked if they favor Democratic or Republican congressional candidates. The spread: Democrats over Republicans 55% — 39%, a 16-percentage-point gap.

The public’s approval rating of Bush, according to the poll, slipped below 50% last May and has been hovering just above or below 40% since October. Two weeks ago, Bush’s approval rating was 38%.

The latest poll of 1,001 adults has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points and was conducted March 10-12. Its results closely resemble those reported last week in an Associated Press/Ipsos poll. That survey put Bush’s approval rating at 37% — matching the AP/Ipsos poll’s all-time low.

The war in Iraq appears to be the biggest factor in Bush’s ratings. Public opinion on the situation there has turned sour.

Asked two years ago if they were “certain that the U.S. will win” the war with Iraq, 79% of those polled said yes. The answer last weekend: 22%.

The other side of that question has turned sharply as well. Two years ago, just 1% of those polled thought it was unlikely or certain that the U.S. would not win the war with Iraq. The latest result: 41%.

The USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll also showed:

    • 57% said sending U.S. troops to Iraq was a mistake — up from 55% two weeks earlier and the highest reading since a 59% result last October.

    • 67% said the president does not have “a clear plan for handling the situation in Iraq.” That was an all-time high. But 68% also said Democrats in Congress do not have such a plan.

    • Democrats fared better than Republicans on whether they would do a better job of handling “the situation in Iraq.” The split: 48% for Democrats, 40% for Republicans.

Deficit - bigger than ever, not if you consider GDP, but still abysmal

Social Security - still not fixed Medicare - still not fixed, he didn’t create them, and when he tried to offer solutions he was excoriated by the AARP, the left, and even some from the right

OBL - still missing in action, uh, uh, did any other administration have the option of getting this guy on a silver platter, hmmmm, hmmm, who was that Prez?

Trade deficit - bigger than ever, well, doesn’t that let the “poor,” whom I despise, boy more “stuff?”

World opinion - America is arrogant, if France, Germany, Russian, China et al. approve, I disapprove, Screw ‘em. We are the big dog and will be the moving target until we fall, and, the left will see that that happens

Energy - the real raping of Americans, if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it, put on a sweater, get a VW Bug

Education - getting dumber every day, blame the teacher’s unions and those that oppose vouchers, although the NCLB is a travesty

Environment - corporate-friendly policy, on the one hand you whine about energy policies, but want the govt. to crack down on corps. Look, corps just pass along taxes TO US

    Guess who I am now!!!!

Midori: Don’t worry I plan on sticking with this new name, Liberals Suck And Lie. I’ve taken quite a fancy to it. Plus I don’t mind you using it for any of your fake post hijackings, it still gets my message out. It’s like a kidnap victim with a cellphone.

As I stated, I post using my real name. That is the only name I post under.

Look at it this way: who and what are you that I need to explain myself to you?

Having said that, I’m glad for you that you finally found one name to stick to.

After seeing you post so many deluded and crazy rants, I can see why you need to constantly point fingers and hurl baseless accusations.

I suppose you chose to make me the object of your allegations because I stand up for myself — something that you seem to have great difficulty accomplishing.

All you do is fling feces like a monkey in a cage.

To keep people from treading carefully and avoid stepping in your excrement, you have to yell: but wait!!! look over there!!! Midori is doing this!!! Midori is doing that!!!

I see you’re completely resigned in making these false allegations. It’s ok. Anything to help.

Cause you definitely need all the help one can muster.

And you need help mopping all of that sh*t off the floor.

That I can’t help you with.

Apparently Midori suffers from Tourettes Syndrome. Poor girl is disabled, and cannot help it if she repeats herself and her obscenities like an out of control parrot trained by a drunken sailor.

One thing that I just ADORE about Midori is how she complains that some of us change our names back and forth because of her Name-Jacking Wanker Friends, whom she cheers on with mob-style abandon. What irony!

Time to send her to the scolding chair for a little water-boarding.
