Ummmm, actually:

Hillary Clinton ‘truly regrets’ Gandhi joke. Remarks called stereotypical, racially insensitive

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton apologized for joking that Mahatma Gandhi used to run a gas station in St. Louis, saying it was “a lame attempt at humor.”

That was too easy…

I let some comments in here slide last night, out of respect, apologies to those who may consider this response a bit premature:

If I were a teacher, like, let’s say, JC, before I went and congratulated myself and my profession, I believe I would take a quick look at Georgia’s SAT scores and America’s educational standing compared to the 23 or so countries that are better than us.

The “intelligence of the left has led to the creation of a permanent underclass in our society and it has reduced women to disposable sex objects (much to the delight of 18 year old boys.) Where our culture used to respect the elderly we now demean them. We are now raising an entire generation of children without exposure to etiquette, manners, civility but instead are enslaving them to sexual enticement and peer pressure as their measure of “success.

I employ some of these products of our higher education system, and without exception, I am appalled at the lack of any viable education. Sure they can share experiences of drunken frat parties and lecture on the ins and outs of the victim industry, but this is not practical knowledge, despite what some of you pinkos are thinking right now.

The left has set a course of action in the United States designed to weaken us from within, both domestically and internationally. This, I grant, they are having great success at.

You, JC, are welcome to be proud of yourself.

I know that liberals and “news” paper editors have no idea how things work, they are probably in awe over light switches and such, but anybody who has viewed the Bush Katrina briefing must ask the following questions:

A- If we are going to use the fact that Bush asked no questions as a standard of proof that they were not “ready” and were somehow responsible for the destruction, then where does Bill Clinton fit into the 9/11 chain of guilt, considering he never even held national security briefings, never mind ask questions, while in the White House.

Besides which, Bush is being briefed by experts, he is not a windbag like, let’s say Swimmer Kennedy, maybe shutting your mouth and letting other people do what they get paid for could be a good thing, no?

B- Michael Brown, from what I could see, is a highly effective leader. He controlled the meeting, setting the tone of seriousness, even emphasizing that this was a huge storm. The benefits of this meeting being held were not for some secret closed hurricane society, Brown was speaking directly to the people on the ground, both state and federal.

The people that died or injured were the ones that were not evacuated. Bush and Brown did not round up victims after this briefing, drive them to the Superdome and chain them to the seats. Trust me.

Evacuation was the sole responsibility of Ray Nagin and Kathleen Blanco. If they needed assistance, they are supposed to request it from FEMA. They told the FED to buzz off.

C- Watch the tape yourself. Then ask, what else do you expect Bush to do, jump in the gulf and swim out to the hurricane. (Don’t take me seriously on that last one, “news” paper editors.)

Andy, how do you know that Clinton held no security meetings or asked questions? That sounds highly improbable and unlikely.

Toon mediocre at best. So the President sucked up to India to acquire trade and nuclear concessions (which he got). What was he supposed to do, take a leak on Gandhi’s crypt?

Interestingly, the Senate sailed the “Patriot Act” renewal through with almost no revision. Now that the Dems are “tough on security”, I guess it isn’t Orwellian anymore. Dems waffle more than the International House of Pancakes!

I laughed out loud when I saw this! Prior commentator seems not to realize this cartoon simply lampoons Bush’s ignorance. Maybe he doesn’t know who “Gumby” is.

By finch

March 2, 2006 08:03 AM | Link to this

The revised Patriot Act includes some changes that are anything but cosmetic:

- Give recipients of court-approved subpoenas for information in terrorist investigations the right to challenge a requirement that they refrain from telling anyone.

- Eliminate a requirement that an individual provide the FBI with the name of a lawyer consulted about a National Security Letter, a demand for records issued by investigators.

In otherwords, if Big Brother is spying on you, at least you’ll know, and you’ll be allowed to tell other people (lawyers) so you can defend yourself. This is important.

Oh, and there’s this:

- Clarify that most libraries are not subject to demands in those letters for information about suspected terrorists.

I never wanted the government to know that I’d checked out “Lady Chatterly’s Lover” anyways….

But when I became a man, I put away childish things and they have no reason to watch me now.

Clare & Danish:

Reprinting my earlier post verbatim: “Good toon….definitely examines the depth of GWB’s intellect.

Now then, if you care to read AND understand what I wrote you will see that I KNOW ML is lapooning GWB’s intellect…I was using sarcasm to express myself.

What I really enjoy is the fact that GWB wants to honor Gandhi. GWB has said on more than one ossasion: “I am a WAR president!” I’m sure Gandhi would have something to say about the hypocrisy of it all.

Clare: I think this toon is saying that Bush knows exactly who Ghandi is (peace-loving, socialist) and thinks of him as “Gumby”. GWB is then supposed to be bad for using Ghandi’s memory for a “photo-op” when he is opposed to his philosophical ideology. ML is not lampooning Bush’s ignorance but his intolerance and his dishonesty about it. I can’t say that I agree, but that is the message I got from the toon. Why do you think the toon “lampoons Bush’s ignorance”? I don’t follow.

Poor Danish, at least your not lying today and pretending to be something your not. Maybe you’re trying to grow some character after all. You won’t gain any by constantly berating those with whom you disagree, but please continue to alenate moderates like myself. I voted for GWB twice and with the same choices would do so again right now. That doesn’t mean that he gets a free ride. On the contrary, I expect the people I vote for to complete their campaign pledges and to complete their terms leaving a good impression for the next candidate.

Fringe radicals like yourself sure make it easy to paint the entire conservative movement as “head-cases”. If the Dems give me something other than Dean, Gore, Kerry, Hillary, or Lieberman to vote for I will probably vote for them for the same reason I voted for GWB in the Gore race (the Dems had been in power too long and thought they had carte blanche from moderates). A good character-building exercise for you will be to pull down the Florida election results from 2000, take 1% of the votes that were placed for only Ralph Nader and add them to Al Gore’s column, then see who would be President. I love your cockiness and arrogance, you’re really winning the other side over. Keep up the good work, see you at the polls in 2008!

Mike L, with all the great comedy and tragedy Bush provides on a daily basis have you ever considered going with 2 cartoons a day? For instance, you haven’t been able to do a cartoon about Bush’s Homeland security meeting before Katrina. You are doing your readers a disservice, supply and demand merit more cartoons from you, and Bush makes it so easy, it won’t require much more work on your part.

Once again, ML’s hatred for W and his disrepect for the President’s office has shown through. I find ML rather childish. He typically further exaggertes the medias’ lies and half-truths. There are certainly a lot of areas in which he can “pick” on W: increased government spending, his choice of some political appointees, lack of border control to name a few. But his choice of topic is usually just silly. I know high school kids that have a better understanding of government issues.

Does anyone get to whine about “disrespect for the office of the President” any more? I thought we pretty much dispensed with that concept during Clinton’s time in office.

I know I haven’t held back from criticizing my Chief Executive Officer since the Nixon embarrassment.

This whole “worship the Oval Office” mindset is unseemly AND un-American, folks. Is Bush really so weak and frightened that he can’t stand criticism—that he needs you folks to stick up for him and shout down anyone who might let a harsh word reach his ear?

Can someone please answer a question for me? I notice that some of the same people post here disagreeing with the cartoons published by the artist. Some of them are pretty irate. Why would you read these cartoons everyday and get so worked up over them? It seems to me that the best way to get back at this artist is to stop patronizing and responding to his cartoons. Or am I missing the real reason behind these daily political matches between all the parties involved?

All I know is that in the 7th grade I got caught drawing a cartoon of a girl I couldn’t stand. Seems like I had her being dipped in manure. I thought it was real funny. The teacher didn’t think so. Anyway, maturity set in one day and I felt foolish about a lot of things, like how big my nose was compared to the rest me all of a sudden, but the girl-in-poop cartoon bothered me too. Still couldn’t stand her, but jeez, I realized I had been a stupid little bastard. Now that I think about it, the girl was smart, prepared, did her homework, succeeded and probably made me look dumb by comparison. You know, my wife does the same thing now, but I’ve never wanted to dip her in manure. Other stuff maybe, but never manure. Hey yeah, and the notebook I had been drawing in had my class notes too, which I didn’t get it back for two freaking weeks. Stupid teacher. Ah, screw ‘em all anyways, except for my wife..…well, yes……oh, you know what I mean.

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

Hey Biachslaap,

Thank you for informing everyone how much Republicans suck, and how evil it is to be successful and wealthy.

Thank you for reminding us that big business owners are out to destroy the lives of minorities, even though big business owners are the ones that give them jobs, money, and health benefits.

Thank you for reminding us that The Republicans are so racist with more minorities appointed to prominent positions of power than the Democrats have ever achieved.

Thank you for making sure we brush aside the fact that Clinton’s mentor, Falbright, was a segregationist.

I will also try to forget that Bob Byrd was a Klansman.

Thanks to you I don’t have to take into consideration Ted Kennedy was in a Harvard organization that excluded women (even the ones he did not drown to death).

Because of you, I now know it is the Republicans who are racist and oppressive, and not the Democrats, who with the help of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton perpetuate the mindset that blacks and other minorities cannot take care of themselves, and need government assistance and racist programs such as minority quotas in college admissions.

Now, because of you, I know it is safe to consume Ray Nagin’s claim that New Orleans is going to be a “chocolate city.” It certainly isn’t a racist comment, because had a white mayor of a different city had said, “vanilla city” we all know THAT is the real evil. Right?

I also can sleep well at night knowing there is nothing wrong with Hillary Clinton comparing the white house to “a plantation…and you know what kind I’m talking about” to a predominately black audience.

Last but not least, I now see that Dean was perfectly in line when he stated, “You can’t see the Republicans getting so many people of color in one room, unless they count the hotel staff.”

Thank you for your guidance, Biachslaap. I will take your comments into consideration the next time you bag my groceries so you can go home with your minimum wage paycheck to pop your zits before m@sturbating to your big sister’s Victoria’s Secret Catalog to settle yourself in for a good night’s sleep in your parents’ basement.

And I think the cartoon is kind of funny…although the “Bush is dumb!” joke, being about 4 years old and told countless times, has gotten a bit stale for people of intellectual superiority to crybaby, pillow-biting liberals.

March 2, 2006 — The paper trail seems so obvious, it makes you wonder whether anyone ever worried about getting caught. A- If we are going to use the fact that Bush asked no questions as a standard of proof that they were not “ready and were somehow responsible for the destruction, then where does Bill Clinton fit into the 9/11 chain of guilt, considering he never even held national security briefings, never mind ask questions, while in the White House.

Andy, please stop spreading lies.

I know it’s rough backing and continuing to back this loser moron of a “president”. I really do.

But you need to stop spreading lies, and educate yourself.

You have purposely switched the scenarios. It was Bush who never held national security meetings. It was Bush who came into office slashing the budget and programs Clinton instituted to thwart terrorism. It was Bush who was warned by Sandy Berger that Osama would be their number one priority. It was on Bush’s watch that 9/11 occurred.

You can throw the Clinton straw man up all you want, but please stop the lies.

And no one wanted Bush to “jump into a hurricane” or something nonsensical as that.

We wanted him to be a leader. But as we have seen time and time again, that’s just not in his makeup as a person.

The liberal argument that “Bush is an idiot!” amuses me. Bush is an idiot who outsmarts the Dems/Liberals in two elections, dodges every attack against him, and every shrill hate-filled liberal attack against him backfires over and over again, as liberals lose more power with each passing day.

To call someone an idiot who fools you, out-manuevers you, and maintains his power with a grin on his face is quite ironic, wouldn’t you agree?

And if you truly think he is an idiot then who did you vote for? Surely it could not have been Kerry, who had a LOWER GPA than Bush in college. Surely it could not have been John F. Kerry, who claims to be so intellectually superior to Bush, yet refuses to release his S.A.T. score to pit it against Bush’s (1206). Surely you could not have cast your vote for the man who arguably has even a lower IQ than George Bush. I guess I can forgive you for falling for a popular internet hoax claiming Bush had the lowest IQ of the previous 50 presidents, because some well-renowned publication syndicates also fell for the same hoax.

Isn’t it ironic how while the “stupidest” “idiot” you all “hate” with every bit of energy you can muster is in power while there has not been a succesful terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11? Isn’t it ironic that this “moron” has been in office for 5 years so far and we now have unemployment at the same low we saw under Clinton’s watch? Did you notice that while your blood boils with anger toward your president the economy is doing very well despite Katrina, 9/11 and the recession it helped to cause, and the war on terror?

Geez…you’d think I really like Bush in office and I actually can’t wait to see him leave. But I’d rather replace my brain with a bag of sand (which would turn me into a liberal) than to replace Bush with one of your ilk.

Have a nice day.

Sigh.

The Bush/Brown videos from AP show that on Sunday 8/28, Bush was told that Katrina could be a disaster of monumental proportions.

So what? Nothing new here. The transcripts of these tapes were released months ago.

Still unanswered? Why did the President wait until Wednesday afternoon, 8/31 to show the nation leadership?

He was busy. Monday he was in California speaking about Medicare reform. He stopped in Arizona to wish Sen. John McCain a happy birthday. Tuesday, he visited a California Navy base and played guitar with Mark Willis before returning to his Texas ranch.

Wednesday morning, he flew back to the White House, passing over New Orleans so he could be photopraphed looking concerned.

Busy, busy busy.

There’s no doubt Brown’s a scapegoat. It’s clear Nagin and Blanco were delusional.

But for a President to wait three days to acknowledge to the American people what everybody else in the country already knew, that Katrina was a horrible calamity needing the authority of their Commander-in-chief, shows an appalling lack of leadership, mind numbing insensitivity, and yes, incredible stupidity.

Carter would have been building houses. Reagan would (at Nancy’s prompting) be telling the nation “We’re doing everything we can”. Bush 41, a guy who knew how to manage and delegate, would have been doing just that. Clinton would have at least told us (lower lip trembling), “I feel your pain”.

George W. Bush? He was busy.

Pinko, you’re missing the point. Most of the people who didn’t evacuate New Orleans before Katrina didn’t want to leave! They weren’t going to abandon their homes. They didn’t think Katrina was a killer. And so on.

It would have taken batallions of National Guard troops with fixed bayonets to get them on buses. The thousands of soaked and abandoned cars in New Orleans are blunt evidence that there were means for people to leave, and they chose not to. Yes, they were idiots. But that’s just the way people are.

The question remains… why did it take President Bush THREE DAYS to acknowledge that New Orleans was a problem, and to promise he’d do something about it?

Big Easy rests easier

In New Orleans, there was significant damage but also sighs of relief that the city had escaped the utter devastation predicted if the levee system had failed and unleashed catastrophic flooding.

Bush got the same news I did, finch.

Some spared, but for others it’s ‘Camille II’

Residents of the Mississippi Gulf Coast — an area devastated by a lethal Category 5 hurricane named Camille in 1969 — took the brunt of Katrina’s wrath Monday after the storm took an eastward turn, sparing flood-prone New Orleans from a catastrophe.

finch,

WASHINGTON — On the day that Hurricane Katrina roared ashore, President Bush and a top presidential aide were worried about whether New Orleans’ levees had held, according to a transcript of discussions among disaster officials on the front lines of the storm.

Those concerns, expressed about midday Aug. 29, are in contrast to an image of a detached president and also to what happened later that night. That’s when an official manning the federal emergency operations center held off acting on reports of levee breaches as he waited for confirmation.

I like to read inspiring words.

‘A Beacon of Liberty’

New York Sun Editorial March 2, 2006

No word yet on whether Senator Kerry attended a speech to a joint session of Congress yesterday by the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, but we hope he did because Mr. Berlusconi delivered a majestic address. Mr. Berlusconi reminded the solons that his country and ours today share a love for liberty in large part because America set Italians free from the grip of the Fascists and then kept the country from falling under the thumb of the Soviet Union. “When I see your flag” Mr. Berlusconi said, “I do not merely see the flag of a great country: above all, I see a symbol, a universal symbol of democracy and freedom.”

Mr. Berlusconi told a story, “of a young man, one who had just graduated from high school. His father took him to a cemetery that was the final resting place for brave young soldiers - young people who had crossed an ocean to restore dignity and liberty to an oppressed people. In showing him those crosses, that father made him vow never to forget the ultimate sacrifice those young American soldiers had made for his freedom. That father made his son vow eternal gratitude to that country.” Mr. Berlusconi was the young man.

RW,

“finch, That’s a crock. Nobody needed the President to tell the nation there was a problem in the Gulf.

With all respect, RW, it is definitely not a crock. Sure, the nation knew there was a “problem in the Gulf”. What the nation needed was a leader who spotlighted the problem and promoted solutions. You know, somebody with a plan.

A President should lead by example in a very public way in times of crisis. Blazing a trail, illuminating difficult situations, spearheading solutions, boldly going where no Nagin or Blanco dares to go. He’s the President, dammit. That’s his job.

President Bush didn’t. He was busy, busy, busy. For 2 days after the levees broke, and everybody knew they had broken, he was apparently too busy to care. Busy promoting Medicare reform. Busy with McCain’s birthday party. Busy trading guitar licks with some B list C&W singer. Busy relaxing on his ranch.

Apathetic, indifferent, callous, oblivious, and busy. Oh, so extremely and exceedingly busy.

Must be a slow day. Dumocrats are back beating the Katrina drum. I thought you guys already decided it was all because Bush doesn’t like blacks or something stupid like that.

We need to find out who the Prez was when all those good folk died at Donner’s Pass. The blame needs to be placed squarely on his shoulders. Stories need to be rewritten and take out the part that they left late, were not as prepared as they should have been and it was one of the worst storms ever. Nope, it has the be the that Presidents fault, well if he was a Republican, that is.

I love you Midori, your daily postings give me confidence that my anti-liberal beliefs are justified.

I’m happy about your confidence, or level of, or lack of, whatever.

But my thing is I’m quite sure you’re trying to make a point — whatever it may be.

But, like your idol Bush, you fail miserably.

Thanks again for the thumbs up, tho.

MMidori, thanks. I take that as a compliment. I like the E.I.E.I.O response to my bad spelling. Now that was funny.

RW,

How finch and Midori want it done:

The hero arrives on horseback

[He makes the speech everyone expects to hear] (http://faultgame.com/images/disaster.wav)

[Instructs FEMA to post universal warning signs] (http://frogstar.com/pics/pics.warnings/z_040901fumes.asp)

Along with detailed evacuation instructions

Anyone can do it!
