Let’s see if I can dust off Bruce Bartlett’s credibility here real quick:
June 23, 2004, 8:52 a.m.
The Economics of Media Bias
It may soon be too costly to lean left.
A new poll from the Pew Research Center has again raised the issue of liberal bias in the media. A growing body of academic research at top universities supports it. Unfortunately, those in the major media still don’t get it and are unlikely to change their behavior, resulting in further declines in ratings and circulation.

Gosh, Bruce Bartlett is syndicated by the Moonie Times:
Party track records on race
For decades, it has been a template of the major media that Republicans are the party of racism. It repeats uncritically any charges of Republican racism, no matter how unfounded. Democrats, on the other hand, are always given a pass whenever they commit racist offenses. Even a cursory review will show the media template is totally contrary to history.

OO,
unionfacts.com (the anti-union site you cite) is (according to the NY Times) a nifty cash cow for one Richard Berman, a superlobbyist who trumpets the boundless benefits of clients like the liquor industry by criticizing organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
And that’s on his good days.
The enlightened folks at Wikipedia describe him thusly:
“Rick Berman founded and runs a trio of shadowy tax-exempt food, tobacco, and beverage industry front groups. (and now, an anti-union group.) *For a hefty fee, these nonprofit organizations hire Berman as executive director. Berman then uses his own privately owned public relations company to do work for the nonprofit organization. In this way, Berman channels between 49 and 79 percent of the donations given to these nonprofit groups into his own pocket.”
It appears that Mr. Berman’s primary (but hidden) agenda is the enrichment of Mr. Berman. Personally, I tend to be leery of such individuals.

President Bush said on Monday that the unauthorized disclosure of an undercover C.I.A. officer’s identity was a “very serious matter” and “a criminal action” as the White House announced that at least 500 of its 2,000 employees had responded to a Justice Department demand for documents as part of an investigation into the source of the leak.
Taking up where we left off. Before the spin machine kicked in, that is what Bush had to say about Plame. Now all we have reached the point where people are actually asking whether Plame was really outed. Well, President Bush thought so. But that was a couple of years and miles of spin ago.

Which returns us to the point of why people are making such a big deal about Cheney shooting someone accidentally. The administration has spent the last 5 + yrs assiduously controlling every bit of information that it gives to the press and the American people. As Reagan’s and George Sr.’s press secretary pointed out, there was no reason that the press wasn’t notified of the event together with facts and the points of view of all involved, within a couple of hours of the incident. I can just imagine the conversation: “Uh, George, I just shot a guy.” “Well, Dick, don’t say a word to the press until I talk to Karl” and so on. The reason that people are making such a big deal of Cheney shooting someone is not that they they think it is so momentous, but that any chink in a stone wall is of interest.

WashingtonState,
I wrote here that there is a good reason for not immediately notifying the press. RW, Even if I were to agree that your reasons are valid, my point was more that when an administration has built a reputation for stonewalling at every turn, they will likely be judged as reverting to pattern whenever there is any question. My earlier quote was from the press secretary for two former Republican presidents who thinks the whole situation was badly managed.

WashingtonState,
If you read the post from my site I would hope that you didn’t come away with a partisan position. I really don’t care what former or current Republicans feel. I even agree with “seneca” in the comments on that post that the Bush PR department is a disaster. I have it on good authority that “seneca” even posts here using a different name, but doesn’t want to be named. {finch, was that discreet enough?}
The Whittington family deserved time to be notified and there was no compelling reason not to give them that time.
By WashingtonState

RW, I thought your post put the most charitable light possible on the whole incident and was not partisan at all. I, on the other hand, am pointing out that one has to judge people’s reactions in the light of the totality of this administration’s dealings with the press. If they had been more forthcoming in other situations, I doubt there would be any fuss about this particular incident at all. It is all very ironic from any number of angle.

Denmark or Luxembourg can afford to exhibit domestic anguish and uncertainty over military policy; the United States cannot. A divided America encourages our enemies, disheartens our allies, and saps our resolve—potentially to fatal effect. What Gen. Giap of North Vietnam once said of us is even truer today: America cannot be defeated on the battlefield, but it can be defeated at home. Polarization is a force that can defeat us.
Which is what the liberals seem to want.
By GenGiap

While you are very good at Google searching for arguments that support your positions, you have no intellect to take information and form a rational deduction. Maybe if America chose their wars more wisely none of the above factors would be in play. Bad wars and the wrong wars always result in faltering resolve. Why did Americans support the World Wars to the very end but become polarized over Vietnam and now Iraq. Why did Americans overwhelmingly support Gulf War I.

Since Vietnam is now one of our stronger trading partners in the SE Asian theater, it may be well to remember that, like in Sumo wrestling, sometimes you win by relaxing and letting the enemy defeat himself. In this case; Vietnam is reforming itself through the best forum for our interests, the free market place. Vietnam is already a free trader and will eventually transform itself into a totally free society simply because we stopped trying to force the issue through a venue that was disingenuous to us (one on one entrenched jungle warfare). Only stupid people or brutes fight when they can better win through trade mechanisms. That is the true lesson to be learned from our sad involement in Vietnam!
Gen. Giap wasn’t as crafty as he imagined. By winning “face” (oriental concept of pride) he sacrificed his ultimate goal of entrenching Vietnam in socialism. Gap is being defeated by Hershey bars and Coca Cola. His cause could only be sustained in the minds of his people while there was an American “enemy” occupying Vietnamese soil to use as a rallying point. Who was the better soldier? Who has the last laugh?
If one imagines using the American approach to Vietnam on today’s semi-socialist China the wisdom of our past actions in ‘Nam are more readily apparent. Does anyone think that we could in any manner occupy present day China and convert its’ people to non-socialist governing by force? We are, also, winning in China today through China’s embracment of the free market. In China’s case, we haven’t the might to do otherwise.

Do you really think that the motivation is sticking up for the oppressed? If so I can point out many nations much more oppressed than was Iraq. The Republicans fought Clinton tooth and nail over Bosnia when the Serbs were committing genocide there. I couldn’t agree more. Which is why it is such a travesty that the repubs have taken a “you’re with me or you’re against me” policy on political cooperation. we face a nation deeply divided. the party in power needs to start accepting some responsibility for letting the divisions fester, start proclaiming the need for a middle ground, and start compromising in order to achieve it.
Bush is the polar opposite of Lincoln, who always found common cause for a divided nation — first as a difficult-to-stomach pro-southern-slavery platform in 1860, and then as a very favorable deal for reconstruction in 1864-. the latter p** off the extremists in his party, who wanted to punish the south for a very bloody war, but it was the right decision to strengthen the country in the long-term against further division.

Thank you Anti-Radical. The slaughter in Rwanda was sparked when the presidents of Rwanda and Burundi were killed in a plane crash. Within 100 days of the crash 800,000 people in a country of only 8 million had been slaughtered. Most hacked to death by machetes. The republican congress flatly refused to send help to a nation “not vital to our national interest.”
Had we sent just a few thousand troops, even taking into account the time to deploy, hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved. But it wasn’t in our “national interest.” So much for humanity and freedom from oppression in the purest sense.

4.2 million North Koreans have died of starvation as a direct result of the policies of an oppressive regime, while that country’s military continues to be well fed and menacing to it’s neighbors. The North Korean government diverts the famine relief aid intended for the starving and uses it to feed soldiers and the ruling elite. This nation continues to be a nuclear threat and is by GWB’s own definition part of the axis of evil. Where is the concern for the freedom from oppression of the North Korean populace?

GenGiap and Anti-Radical -
Oh, so Rwanda is Bush’s fault? Maybe I’m confused, but I seem to recall that Bill and Hill were in charge during the Hutsi/tutu machete’ massacre and that Ms. Albright refused to characterize the situation as “genocide”.
Gosh, I even saw a PBS Frontline episode that blamed the Clinton Administration, and reasonably claimed that the whole thing could have been prevented if they had just sent in some troops early on in the game before it got out of hand. BTW, great HBO movie, “Sometimes in April”.
Dittoes for Robert Mugabwe, another celebrated butcher-hero of the Left. Black despot slaughters white Zimbabwan farmers, farms given to Mugabwe’s cronies, cronies can’t farm, famine results, Mugabwe is a hero. Classic!
There seems to be a trend where the Left (and the U.N.) only get outraged when white people are the bad guys. Whenever blacks (or Arab warlords) are the “evildoers” they get a pass. It also hints at a funny sort of racism, where they also don’t care if blacks are the victims. Maybe I’m hallucinating, but it seems that all the Left really want is an issue to use to promote the general stereotype that white men are evil s.o.b.s. Hence all the attention that South Africa got (good thing), but the lack of focus elsewhere (bad thing).
If the Sudan’s jingaweed were a group of white people committing mass murder and practicing modern slavery, I just betcha that there would be a wee bit more outrage over the situation. But that would upset the self-esteem of some people who look to Africa as being the center of civilization.
Obviously the U.S. can’t fight everyone’s battles, so it would be nice if the rest of the civilized world would pitch in once in awhile. What’s left of it.

The government of the United States has traditionally used the installation and support of very oppressive regimes as a means to control nations deemed vital to the security of the U.S.. Freedom seems to be for some but not for others. Reality seems to indicate that the U.S. is actually afraid that freedom will take hold in many nations allowing the citizens of those countries to make choices they deem in their interest, but not ours. But if we truly promote freedom and democracy, well, we let them choose their own destinys. Or do we.

The Indian Campaigns in the 1800’s did not promote freedom from oppression. Theodore Roosevelt’s “Gunboat Diplomacy” only promoted the control and oppression of Central America. Gen Giap - Wait! The great diplomat, Mme. Albright was supposed to get the U.N. on board. Isn’t that how we’re supposed to proceed? Never do anything without U.N. approval? Of course, if you’re not willing to call it “genocide”, it’s tough to get support.
Blaming the Republican congress is a bit like blaming Republicans for Vietnam by characterizing it as Nixon’s War! And that Black Hawk down incident was Clinton’s fault, not Newt’s. If Clinton was a real commander in chief and actually showed “leadership” maybe he might have persuaded people to take action. But apparently he was too busy doing other important things.

Cut the cabal some slack. Maybe they can revise their story to read, we armed Saddam. We backed his cruel regime for many years. We sanctioned his terror. We allowed him to acquire the weapons that he used to exterminate hundreds of thousands of Kurds, and what WMDs he had were because we gave them to him and now we are being humanitarians in our efforts to clean up the mess that we made in the first place because we wanted someone to kick Iran’s a-ss in the 80’s. Saddam was in our national interest and we admit that oppression and genocide didn’t bother us at the time. But now we are righting this wrong and freeing the oppressed Iraqi’s that we helped oppress.

General Giap (alias liberal college professor),
You seem to have a double sided opinion as how to handle aggression. On one hand, you say that Viet Nam would have cured itself of communism if we had left it to Hershey Bars and CocoCola.
On the other hand we should “cure” by force the massacres of Rwanda or the state murders of Darfur or the starvation and oppression of North Korea? What happened to your thought of chocolate bars and Cokes?
I suspect it all comes down to the fact that you don’t like any war when George W. Bush is president. That Saddam would have been ousted with your CB & C theory. That Iraq had no terrorist is like saying the eye of the hurricane is not part of the storm.
There are “good wars” ( we win) and “bad wars” (we lose). Nobody likes them. But we have ELECTED the wisest people we know to run this country. They have more information on the status of international affairs than we do. We do not have a Hitler or a Stalin as president. We are fighting tyrants and terrorism. Ask your questions. But… is it too much to ask that you support your country of freedom and justice?

Let me relate some interesting history and pose a hypothetical question:
3/16/68 My Lai massacre occurs (300-500 dead)
9/69 Lt. Calley charged with 6 counts of murder
11/69 American public reads 1st reports of the massacre
3/31/71 Calley convicted by Court Martial and sentenced to life in prison
4/1/71 Calley released on appeal by order of President Nixon. Nixon states that he will personally monitor the appeal
8/20/71 US Army reduces Calley’s life sentence to 20 years in prison which was then immediately reduced to 10 years in prison by the Secretary of the Army
1974 Calley released after serving only 3 1/2 years of house arrest at Fort Benning
QUESTION: How would Americans react if the women and children murdered were Americans and their murderers were Muslims? Further, how would they react if the commander of the muslim murderers was released after only 3 1/2 years of house arrest?

History RW. The most important thing that one can study. History is the best indicator of the future. Unfortunately the same mistakes are repeated time after time after time. And never underestimate the importance of knowing the history of something that created whatever mess we are in at the time. Sometime because one ignores history they make a bed that is very uncomfortable to lay down in. Too many times I hear Americans boldly declare that they don’t care how some other country feels about something, blissfully ignorant of the fact that that is exactly why we are putting ourselves in the position of us against the world. That is an unwinnable contest. And now there is China.
And by the way RW, I am not advocating sending cokes and snickers. I am wondering why this administration doesn’t apply the same logic to North Korea that they have to Iraq and liberate the N. Koreans by the same method if necsssary. Does our “humanitarian” motives apply only to Iraq?

Asked at a press conference for her reaction about how the White House has handled the incident, US Senator Hillary Clinton called the Bush administration’s failure to be more forthcoming “troubling.”
“A tendency of this administration — from the top all the way to the bottom — is to withhold information … to refuse to be forthcoming about information that is of significance and relevance to the jobs that all of you do, and the interests of the American people,” Clinton said.
It was so much easier to get information in the Clinton years.

Every administration in history inherited the sins of the previous administration. Scapegoating past administrations doesn’t change present fact. Every administration is obligated to deal with whatever the problem is no matter where it came from. The fault that alot of people find with this administration is that it seems to create more problems than it solves. It has brought nothing to a desirable conclusion. Things just get worse. The next administration is going to be handed probably the worst mess that any group has had to deal with from deficits to war. And it WILL NOT BE ACCEPTABLE to whine that it was inherited from this administration.
This administration is yet to be able to stand up in front of the American people and point to any significant successes only messes. At least the Clinton administration did a rather fine job dealing with the crisis in Bosnia. Maybe one day the Bushies can show us something that they have successfully handled and made better.

A story that is just now getting attention is worthy of discussion
The USS Iowa, a heralded battleship of WWII and Korea, was planning on being a permanent attraction in San Francisco Bay
The local SF pols declined that vaunted vessels being in their waters
I taped Hannity & Colmes last night and watched it this morning
Hannity was in SF and had one of the SF pols on camera who said they did not want the USS Iowa because it was a “weapon of war”
The pol was an articulate middle-aged white man, obviously well educated
I was stunned at his comments
He even said, then tried to backpedal, that the USA does not need a military; we have “police officers to guard our shores”

I had to step out for a few minutes and I see that libs are spouting off the same surrender monkey nonsense that they were before I left. I would just like to interject a few points:
1- Bush has been in office for 5 years and he has freed at least 2 whole entire countries from tyranny which is better than what you pinkos have done in, oh, let’s just say, ever.
2- We can’t fight the whole entire world of dictators at once, it is silly for you to even suggest that. I’m willing to venture that we will get around to solving Korea’s problem, do you mind if we finish in the Middle East first?
3- What is this moonbat attack warrior garbage anyway? You democrats have slam freaked out, gutting your own political party, taking it slam out of contention with your foaming outbursts, over the invasion of one oppressed regime. Now you want us to prove our foreign policy dedication by warring with the whole entire rest of the world?
As I said earlier, the more you liberals talk about national security, the more you look like the idiot pinkos that you are. So, by all means, keep it up!

N-GA - Your completely irrelevant ‘life flight’ comment just confirmed my suspicions that you are a model of progressive class envy. Of course if you are ever life-flighted somewhere I guess the taxpayers will pick up the tab which is so much better than paying for it yourself.
You do raise one issue that you didn’t fully extrapolate for us: If Cheney volunteers to pay the lawyers’ bills, will you all charge him with a quid pro quo coverup and try to impeach him?
Futher, if you’re going to insist that 9/11 was just the greatest thing that ever happened to W, then I suggest that you may want to contact Sore Loserman for a job. With your acute sense of paranoia and highly delusional theories, I bet he’d hire you on the spot.
RW - Following Hilary’s example and in the interest of full disclosure, I’m reporting that Rush played a hilarious montage of Hilary not recalling anything about how her grotesque brother, Hugh Rodham, managed to criminally benefit from nepotism and cronyism. Dusty,
I’m not anti-military. My father flew 50 combat missions in WWII. I got sucked into ACTIVE DUTY (from 1969-75…I did 1 re-up), and I have 2 brothers and a brother-in-law who all served on ACTIVE duty and have the DD-214’s to prove it.
What I am opposed to is having some draft-dodging cowards decide to send this country to war over some lies and suppositions. The USA has illegally invaded a sovereign nation (excuse - PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE), just like Germany did to start WWII.
You don’t see a draft because the voters wouldn’t stand for it. You don’t see any Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, or Cheney kinfolk over there because cowardice tends to run in the family. What you do see is that the average Iraqi wants the US out of their country. But we don’t really care what they want, do we?

To listen to some of you argue that if a person does not agree with or even like GWB they are traitors or pinkos. Can 61% of this populous be traiters and pinkos? Could it not be simply that this administration has just lost the trust of many Americans to include those from the mainstream? At one time Bush had the support of a majoruty of the American people. It was up to him to keep it. To call people that won’t just blindly follow the man off a cliff traitors and pinkos is ridiculous and un-American as well.

Hi Dusty:
“Kenedy County Chief Deputy Gilbert San Miguel Jr. issued a statement late yesterday saying the incident had been investigated by local authorities and was determined to be “no more than a hunting accident.” He told reporters the case remains open.
Local law enforcement officials did not interview Cheney until Sunday morning, about 14 hours after the shooting, in an agreement worked out between the Secret Service and Kenedy County Sheriff Ramon Salinas III. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said at least one deputy was turned away shortly after the shooting because security personnel at the ranch were not aware of the agreement between the sheriff and the Secret Service.”
Can you wait until 14 hours after you shoot someone to sober up, I don’t think the cops would give you that much leeway

My father is a retired Brigadier General and West Point graduate. I am a West Point graduate. My oldest daughter is presently attending the U.S. Naval Academy and I find reason as Karen says, not to “blindly follow the man off a cliff.” Your propensity to cast disparagement on other Americans because they choose not to agree with the president or even dislike him goes against the very principles that you claim to defend. Freedom. And that includes the freedom to not like George Bush. Obviously 61% of this nation are not un-American, unpatriotic,or disloyal to this nations bedrock principles. They could be arguing which one of their respective religions has been used to justify the most hatred, violence and murder.Moses could start with some Israeli victimization of Palestinians; Christ could trump that with the Spanish Inquisition, witch trial, Crusades, etc. (and I mean “etc”) and Muhammad could of course go back to the Middle Ages and recently 9/11, etc. “and besides,” he could say, which one of you could cause rioting, violence and murder just by turning around?” as he begins to turn around. After all the hoopla over the Foster death it would not be unreasonable for people to wonder if the VP was under the influence when he shot someone and just like in the Foster case. Alot of inquiring minds might like to know. What was the purpose of stonewalling the locals for 14 hours over an obvious accident. Maybe something contributed to the accident. Now then, when I was in basic training, all of us regular GI’s poplitely referred to the National Guard dudes as FANG’s.
I’m sure you can figure that acronym out. We knew we were going to be deployed (in 1969) and we knew they were going home after basic. GWB was sipping beers with his Texas FANG buddies.
The Reservists today are paying GWB’s dues because he can’t get the military draft going again because it would be political suicide.

May I repeat two definitions from Webster:
Dissent—a difference of opinion.
Propaganda—the spreading of ideas, info or rumors for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.
What I object to is the use of our freedom of speech as a tool for spreading propaganda. Dissent becomes more than a difference of opinion when it is used to injure our country or our president. That is what I see when I read outright lies, purposeful insinuations or rumors which undermine the presidency and the country. Who does that help? Only the people who hate Americans, the terrorists.

No one has ever suggested that anybody was drunk Dusty, before I read that the mention of alcohol was reported and then scrubbed, I naturally considered the possibility, as men have been known to drink whilst toting guns around in the woods on the weekend. I imagine members of the Sheriff’s office, familiar with the weekend habits of American males, went to investigate this possibility, and others, but were unable to complete the investigation when they were turned away at the front door by the Secret Service. Had they entered, and interviewed the VP in the first hour, then they could conclusively assert that he was not drinking. However, now they cannot.

I took JAPs comment to be sarcasm, because it is hard to believe that someone who blogs here wouldn’t know the answer to that question. Moreover, you just went on to prove the logic of my inference that it was meant in sarcasm because you immediately disparaged service in the ANG!

Hey Buy Danish,
My comment about the top 5% was precipitated by your comment:
“Your completely irrelevant ‘life flight’ comment just confirmed my suspicions that you are a model of progressive class envy. Of course if you are ever life-flighted somewhere I guess the taxpayers will pick up the tab which is so much better than paying for it yourself.”
My response was directed specificly at your accusation that I am a model of class envy. The fact that I was discharged from active duty in 1975 as a S/Sgt, yet used the GI Bill and became successful still wasn’t enough to make me greedy and selfish like you and yours. Anything I might say about my personal financial status would only be said to point out to you that not all moderates or Progressives have to rely on government handouts. I simply give you the facts…you simply use them, distort them for your own fascist needs, and go on.

To borrow a thought from another website, Cheney and his staff must have known that a 14 hour delay would cause some problems. Obviously those problems must be more tolerable than whatever needed to be swept under the carpet during that 14 hour lapse.

Andy….We wouldn’t want to interfere with commerce, now would we? Not with Exxon setting new profit records while a bunch of companies are having the US Government (read: taxpayer) bail out their pension obligations.
I went into a Walmart the other day. I just walked into the clothing department and started looking at where each article was manufactured. I had a list of 19 foreign countries, but not one article of clothing was made in the USA. And this research took less than 3 minutes. I remember when Walmart used to note “Made in the USA” in its advertisements. But then Sam Walton was alive then.
Yea, commerce is such a wonderful thing. Like the Marianna Island workers who are not covered by US minimum wage laws. Oh, I forgot, Abramoff had some USA lawmakers over there and……well, you know. But that’s just this Pinko’s silly observations.

P.S. He had one beer for lunch, but the “incident” occured hours later at dusk, so they could have performed all the breatholizers in the world and it wouldn’t have made him come out “drunk”.
N-GA - You’re right, I did make a “class” envy remark, but money and class are not the same thing, so I was not referring to your wallet. This really is a serious question…is that what Cheney reported or what the restaurant who served him reported? Without fail, the guy will respond…A couple of beers.

Dusty - What really gets me about the Luckovic interview is his contention that the Danish cartoons were wrong, tasteless, inciting violence, all of the above. He compares making a joke about Catholics (okay) but never using Jesus’ image. Well, the problem with that analysis is that you can’t even make a joke about Islam. Censoring those ridiculous cartoons is craven, not sensible.
We are now at a place in the world where we are being completely blackmailed by Islam and can’t print anything about them without fear of a personal fatwa.
Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard published the cartoons in their entirety and told an anecdote about an english journalist friend who had published them on their website, but got a call from Scotland Yard telling him he had bettert remove them because they couldn’t guarantee “protection”. Now THAT is what I call “chilling”.

I just had to vent regarding an overheard conversation at my office. The liberals across the cubicle from me were discussing the man Dick Cheney accidentally shot, and were joking about the fact that he’s apparently had a mild heart attack as a result of a pellet that entered his heart area. Laughing about it, one of them said he wished the gentleman would die so it would harm Mr. Cheney politically, to which everyone else laughed.
Normally I roll my eyes and go on with my work when I hear most of their discussions, but this one made my jaw drop. What kind of human beings are these people, that they’d wish an elderly man would die so that it would somehow boost the Democrats politically (which is an extremely questionable presumption in the first place)?

And tell me what Pellicano was doing for Hill and Bill if not digging up dirt on the “opposition”. Remember “Monica Lewinsky,’that woman’”? JAP - Snarky. Figure it out. A cross between a snake and a shark perhaps?
Dusty - Cheers.
Andy - Of course they reacted that way. They are happy to hear it when the death toll in Iraq mounts too. They will be happy when Al Qaeda strikes America again. Any defeat for Bush is a victory for them, no matter what the consequences. They are so desperate that their utopias are crumbling beneath them and they will use any means necessary to get back in power.
So when they’re not entertaining themselves by throwing rocks through the windows of Starbucks, or sticking it to WalMart,or whatever “capitalist” bogeymen they have targeted, they carry on snickering at their own foul and often dangerous ideas of a joke. And then they play the ‘victim’ and act shocked when we challenge them and their base motives and the unsubstantiated claims they’ve extracted from the netherworld.

Do you want to say that NO innocent people have been killed in the war that our soldiers are now fighting? If so, please get soldiers to verify. If not, then you agree that innocent people die in war — that the “mother of all bombs” dropped on a city is going to kill more than just the dozen evil dudes for which it was intended. Yet many people today have no problem with the deaths of THESE individual human beings. Am I wrong? Please, I hope I am! (Gotta jam now.)

Finally, after hearing over and over again about the rampant voter fraud and the need for reform, we have an example: “By Jose Lambiet
Palm Beach Post Columnist
Wednesday, February 15, 2006
She may be smart enough to earn millions from her acidic political barbs, but when it comes to something as simple as voting in her tiny hometown, hard-core conservative pundit Ann Coulter is a tad confused.
Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections records show Coulter voted last week in Palm Beach’s council election. Problem is: She cast her ballot in a precinct 4 miles north of the precinct where she owns a home — and that could be a big no-no.”
Felony, that means she cannot vote again if convicted. Unless the dems push through a voter restoration for felony criminals. That will be an interesting debate to hear from her on

Kimberly -
Thanks for telling us - its a racist war! Gosh, and to think that we were actually trying to contain a dictator who was given every opportunity to surrender so that not one single woman or child had to die.
Did you read my earlier link to Clinton/Albright/Berger/Cohen? You must have been one of the people in Ohio at that town meeting in the 1990s! One, two, three, four, we don’t want your racist war! You must be brilliant too - you can actually count to four.
How about the Vietnam museum photos? Did you check those out? I find it so interesting that we have peace-loving people from all over the world defending communism, including, “Al-fatah”. Must be because we always pick fights with people “who don’t look like us”.

I’m sorry, but I’m just quoting you, kimberly. You are saying that our soldiers are so morally degenerate that they would indiscriminately kill women and children if they were “ordered.” That our officers would give those “orders” just for their excitement, for their murderous thrills. That our purpose in Iraq is not to risk life and treasure for the freedom of others, it so bloodthirsty Americans can fly planes into, er, I mean, bomb women and children “indiscriminately.”
I like these pinkos. The are more adapt at taking themselves out of the equation then any harm that we could ever do to them. They can’t keep a lid on their raging hatred of this Great Nation, they are apologists for those who really do slaughter women and children. People aren’t blind to this, keep talking kimberly.

JAP - That was an incredibly banal observation. Further, it isn’t in this country that mothers and fathers dress their kids in suicide vests and belts. Concern for children? Ha! They don’t even care about their OWN kids, they just want that big fat bonus Martyr check from Saddam Hussein, and Arafat when he was alive.
RW is exactly right about collateral damage. Look how many soldiers died during Fallujah and during that pig Al Sadr’s 15 minutes of fame? I actually get p.o’d that we don’t just destroy some of these people, and if it means that there is some collateral damage, so be it. Just remember, without The Taliban, and Bin Laden, and Hussein, and other maniacs, there would be NO collateral damage. So blame them, not Bush, not our country, and especially not our soldiers.

Cheney fesses up! After days of denial and hiding Dick “Five Deferments” Cheney finally fessed up today to shooting his hunting buddy in the head. “Five deferments” hasn’t given a press conference in four years. In typical republican fashion Cheney first tried to blame his buddy Harry Whittington. Then he blamed the democrats, the media and finally the liberals.

As far as MY child goes, I am going to fight to the death if necessary to protect him and try to preserve this country, and if that means that some women or children who are in the families of the enemies who want to kill us, then so be it. The mass violence by Muslims over some cartoons reminds us why we have to worry when countries like Iran start talking about having nukes. If Cheney had informed the public (via the media) immediately, he would have nipped this bru-ha-ha in the bud. Stomped it flat. Cut it off at the pass. Pick your cliche.
Wittington would still be shot, but the public wouldn’t care.
By letting it fester he INVITED controversy. He made Bush, McClellan, the White House and the GOP look like fumblebutts.

RW - Besides NATO would have to invoke NATO article 5, in order for us to be involved. For article 5 to be invoked (even NATO has limitations) Article 6 of the North Atlantic Treaty has to be fulfilled. Article 6: “For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack: 1. on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France (2), on the territory of or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer. 2. on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer.”
That’s why NATO did not get involved during the Falkland’s war (in behalf of Britain) or during the US embassy bombing in Kenya (in behalf of the US). So the Cartoon war Ms. Coulter wants to start on behalf of Denmark under the premise of standing behind our NATO allies is just a pipe dream.

finch, I seriously doubt that. If the press can hound Trent Lott over absolutely nothing, just imagine how long they would and will hound Dick Cheney, especially when their eyes get all starry over the idea of impeachment and bringing down “Darth Vadar”.
In hindsight it could have been handled differently, but he would have been hounded regardless. He is a nice guy, a gentleman, a great VP, and a fine public servant, and all the swill in the world will not change that. We shall see what the history books say.
