Didja ever think you’d hear the words “war” and “Christmas” linked together so often? It’s pretty depressing, really.

Big Daddy is actually Big Mama. 5’2’, 280 lbs. A rolling, roiling inferiority complex - too grotesque to wipe and too stupid to care. Typical of “little Republiscum men.” Yet interesting to observe in their natural habitat.

In the newest Gallup poll 62% of Americans think that Christmas is under attack from groups like the ACLU. Only 3% of those polled found it insensitive to say Merry Christmas. This is just another case of those on the far left that think if there is a room full of 30 people and one person is made uncomfortable, then that one person should be made to feel comfortable at the expense of the others. I know alot of you like to make fun of O’Reilly and he is an easy target, but this isn’t made up. I don’t care if a store has a sign that says Happy Holidays, just don’t exclude saying Merry Christmas. Most Americans are okay with it, it just those on the far left like the ACLU that wan’t a totally secular society. Maybe they should take a look at Europe and see how that is working out for them

Mike L. Thanx for repeating the excellent article from Steinback. He’s under a lot of pressure down here from the Cubanistas to not speak truths re Bush. Thus his is a gutsy article as well as an intelligent one. Happy New Year! Anything positive will be an improvement in 2006.

Ricky, we’ve been here a million times. The ACLU is probably the only organization that will PROTECT your civil liberty and ability to practice whatever religion you please. It will, also, protect your neighbors’ right to disagree. The ACLU is pro-religion, all religions (hundreds of cases filed this year alone in support of religious freedom). Most Christians just have sour grapes ‘cause they can’t shove their particular belief set down the throats of other peoples’ kids (part of their indoctrination-spread the seed). If I want my kids to believe in Christ I will so instruct them (I do by the way) and it is none of anyone else’s business. When it comes time to preach Wicca, Islam, B’ahai, Branch Davidian, Satanism, Aztec ritual sacrifice, and Native American religious beliefs to THEIR own kids in the schools that THEIR taxes pay for; then all the protestations of religious infringement evaporate like the hot air religious radicals are so full of. When the Churches close their doors on Christmas; is there are wonder that regular people do too?

The End is near! The End is near! How many times have the evangelicals told us this? I wish for once they would take their totally crazy beliefs seriously and sit up on the mountain waiting for the end, leaving the rest of us alone. Yes, there will be a New Year.

New Year’s Day, among other things, used in the Roman Church to be called The Feast of the Circumcision. But as the Church has over the last forty years pretended to become less anti-Jewish, it also ended the celebration of Jesus’ circumcision. Was this yet another sign of a deep-seated anti-semitism?
You know, you cannot trust the Catholic Church ever.

Is it just me or has this blog shifted to the middle again? I had gotten used to having to dodge the bullets of the Kaiser because I think that poor people should be able to see a doctor or called a communist because I dont adhere strictly to the GOP cannon. Speaking of blind adherance to canon- Ricky I dont hate catholics but I am wary of organizations who have so famously tortured and burned people who disagree with them or challenge their ideas. Its going to take more than a few decades of ‘good behavior’ for the church to attone for the torture and execution of so many innocents and the blatant misenterpretation of the Bible to support anti-semitism and other pollitically driven evils.
speaking of God heres one of his recent converastions with W

Freedom from what?
I remember the start of the war.
The whole administration kept showing up on televison, telling us that Iraq possessed WMD and we had to rid them of it.
On the eve of “shock and awe” all you hear from the right wing was “KILL THE RAGHEADS”!!!
“DEATH TO ALI BABA”!!!
Now, all of a sudden, you love them so much.
You love them so much, you want to kill and maim them into “freedom”.
And the “freedom” angle wasn’t introduced until the other “justifications” failed to materialized.
You goons do Fox News well.
Freedom.
Indeed.
I can’t help but notice that none of you “critics” give Mike props for sponsoring this dialog, and embracing alternate viewpoints.
Refreshing, isn’t it?
Especially since your side fails miserably in that department.
Freedom, indeed.
As soon as we went in, the first thing US forces did was surround and post guards at both the oil ministry, and the oil wells.
Freedom, indeed.

The real story of 2005 is the increasing size and depth and reach of the neo-conservative movement in the United States. Having outed liberal bias and laughed at the sarcastic jokes about the war, etc. - neo-conservative is seen today as the place where responsible, common-sense ideas are pursued, and tradition - from families to religion to love of country — can be found.
Liberal extremism is so sick and pervasive that it is now feeding a thriving “I hate liberals” movement. Rather than growing stronger, or combatting it with a healthy does of resepect for traditional values, liberals continue mocking and insulting conservatives, thinking that somehow this will weaken them.
Far from it— liberals bashing conservatives have been a shot in the arm for U.S. conservatives. Every Johnny Depp statement, every Nancy Pelosi left-wing attack, every support for anti-American country policies, just strengthens the resolve and adds new members to its ranks.
This idiot cartoonists pointless, unfunny put-downs of Bush are nothing but a boost to neo-conservatism. Keep it up! We love it!

Neo-Conservative is a misnomer. Neo-cons are anything but middle of the road or traditional. They are so far gone that they don’t even know that they are truely RADICALS!!!! Like any good radical they whine and pi** that they are put upon by forces all around them (liberals, pinkos, the press, etc). They feel they are the downtrodden but favorite of God’s creatures. They are as far to the right as Teddy Kennedy is to the left. Then there is the inflammatory rhetoric they must use to validate themselves. If they don’t convert others then they haven’t had their beliefs approved and they get surly. Too bad Neo-cons have to pout and bluster in order to feel worthy.

So,
I was at a party last night speaking to a very nice woman about vacations and about plans for retirement 10+ years down the road…She is Spanish, from Spain and she wants to retire to a Spanish speaking country. Probably in South America somewhere.
My wife and I (‘mericans) are thinking about opening a B&B in Costa Rica or Nicaragua…This Spanish woman who’d been telling us all along how she wanted to work her fingers to the bone for the next 8-10 years and then retire to a place where living well is easy and cheap (Venezuela) tells us “no, not Central America! It will be under waterâ€?. OK, Global Warming. Nope… it’s the end of days. The Savior is coming. The Rapture is upon us. Central America will be covered with water.
Well. I told her I’m willing to take my chances in Central America.
It doesn’t make any sense, does it? Where am I off in my thinking when someone is professing to be a believer in the imminent Rapture (with everything that it entails including instant ascension into heaven), but they’re trying to make as much money as possible to retire in Venezuela in 10 years with a swimming pool and 3 maids? Baby needs a new pair of shoes! I need a bigger boat!
I’m just a simple, pinko-commie Liberal who doesn’t understand. Please explain to me what’s in your heads that allows you to believe that you should be listening to fear-mongering religious leaders and politicians? Your whole lives are based on fear, but you’re hedging your bets and you’re letting your greed show through. Isn’t that hypocritical? I just don’t get it. ???
As for Iraq; now that they’re free, and they’ve elected themselves a theocratic Islamic government, I have three questions… 1. Have we won? 2. Can they tell us to leave, now that we’ve given them (what price?) their Freedom? 3. Would we listen to the duly elected government in Iraq, and abide by their wishes, and actually leave if they asked us?
Where is the logic?

Mr. Dontwannabe, Yes Yes and Yes The first mistake you made was talking to a lib about retirement planning. They don’t know what that is. They count on their professed “McChimpy” to take care of it for them. Costa Rica is a beautiful country and many Americans enjoy second homes there.

Basking in the luxury of yet another four day weekend, a question comes to mind. Why not treat Christmas and New Year’s Day like we treat Memorial Day? Just think. If Christmas was celebrated on the last Sunday of December and New Year’s on the first Sunday of January, we’d have two consecutive four day weekends at the end of every year. Of course, it would have the added advantage of putting a fork in the “war on Christmas” morons. The neocons would be presented with the quandry of deciding between boosting consumer capitalism and kissing the hindquarters of the religious fanatics. I love it when their little minds get stressed by reality. Who could ask for more?
