If pinkos are so much against the coming of the Christ Child, why don’t they really show their anger by working the last 2 weeks of December? Changing the name of the Blessed Holiday so that it doesn’t offend you while you are on vacation is a pretty lame protest. I guess we shouldn’t expect much more from the libs.

Coincidence? Last night MSNBC pointed out that the website on Fox News, the channel “exposing” the “leftist” conspiracy against Merry Christmas, was advertising holiday ornaments and other holiday gifts. Holiday. Get it?
They are now Fox Christmas gifts. Heh.
The alleged vendetta by librullls against Merry Christmas, so clumsily exposed by Fox News, is a ploy by Fox to boost ratings and sell John Gibson’s book. The people falling for it are suckers.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hi there RW, and Merry Christmas! This whole Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holiday cr*p is such a tempest in a teapot.
I lived in NYC for 10 years and my Jewish neighbors said Merry Christmas to me and I said Happy Hannukah to them. And at work I’d wish officemates Merry Christmas, and they’d smile and say they were Jewish and wish me Happy Hannukah, and we laughed.
And everybody went to the office Christmas party and nobody cared what it was called. Oh, and people said Happy Holiday too, and everybody laughed, and good cheer was shared by one and all.
This is so trivial. You can wish me good cheer any way you wish, and I will smile and say thank you and Merry Christmas.

It’s good to see the libs agree on something, don’t utter the Name of the Lord in this Blessed Season lest we make our fellow pinkos feel hounded, because they sure can’t reach a consensus on the withdrawal plan anymore. By candide

There is nothing wrong with Merry Christmas. But behind much sloganizing lies a variety of prejudices and bigotries. When I was in grade school we had a teacher who said Xmas was a Jewish plot to blot out Christ. She didn’t say or know, nor did I then, that the X stands for Christos in Greek. She was an anti-semite. Many of those shouting Merry Christmas are anti-this or that, including anti-semites. Many are not. Those shouting Happy Holidays are simply politically correct or perhaps unbelievers. Saying Merry Christmas does not make you believe in the unlikely story of virgin births, magic angels, messiahs and all that rot.
The story of Christmas is manifestly untrue. But the holiday does bring out sometimes the best rather than the worst in people. Easter historically has brought out the worst: killing Jews. But of late it is not Christianity but Islam that is manifesting the most evil. All the Semitic religions are evil because they (Judaism, Islam, Christianity) believe in a vengeful god who kills at will, including for Christians his own son, demands the impossible, and has joy in suffering. The sooner we get rid of all this the better.
Happy Happy Times.

So what do democrats celebrate on the 25th, the day of the Glorious Birth of Our Saviour Jesus Christ Lord And King? I know they won’t be at work, nobody is, Jew, Muslim or pinko. After the speech he gave on Iraq, hopefully he will see how utterly depraved your party is, how pinkos have no spine, how wormy they are and he will apply this strategy for the rest of his policies. Then I will give him a thumbs up.

For those who don’t know the origins of Christmas traditions in the US, look no further than Miracle on 34th Street, one of the greatest pieces of merchant marketing ever. X-mas was a homespun holiday and not so nationally popularized (or commercialized) until the release of the movie (no, not the modern remake).
In the early days of this country, New Years and May Day were more celebrated occasions than the opined date for the birth of Christ, historically the Pagan Saturnalia.

Flibberdigibbit: Tradition means nothing to a pinko.
A week before Christmas in 1834, Charles Dickens published A Christmas Carol (in which he wrote that Scrooge required Cratchit to work, and that the US Congress met on Christmas Day). It was so popular that neither the churches nor the governments could not ignore the importance of Christmas celebrations. In 1836, Alabama became the first state in the US to declare Christmas a legal holiday.
Merry Christmas!

Andy: Not everyone who disagrees with you or the President is a Democrat. I have indeed voted Democrat. I, also, voted for the President (not much choice was there). I hope that in the next election I will be able to vote for McCain but if the party chooses to run another Bush, I believe I might even be motivated to vote for Hillary (just kiddin’ of course)or Dean. Thanks for numbers on Dem congressmen- you seem to think that would be some sort of surprise. Do you imagine that there is some sort of difference in the two parties? Both have no intention of reigning in big government (look at the deficit under Bush folks) and both place the welfare of their own parties above the welfare of the country. The only difference in Dems and Reps at this point is the size of their mouths, not what comes out of them. By the way Andy, did you see the article on Lieberman in the editorials today? Said he was just in Iraq, that the situation there had changed dramatically for the positive since he was last there, etc. Isn’t this the same guy who ran as Gore’s VP? Looks like all Republicans don’t support the war and all Democrats don’t deride it. How ironic; Andy finds a friend in Lieberman. Yuk!

The Democrats who are the most “pinko” - Kennedy et al. - are actually the ones who are the least spineless! It’s the more centrist ones like Reid who lack backbone and give in to Bush when it’s the popular thing to do.

Mike: I wouldn’t put Kennedy up as a stalwart of democratic “strength” just yet. I actually respect Kennedy’s legacy because of his confidence in America. Unfortunately, as a compromise to the Soviet Union during the missile crisis, he agreed to leave Castro in charge of Cuba. And there he remains 45 years after he should have been given a nice American prison cell.

Watching Fox News last night, I find it very funny, apparently there’s a war on Christmas. I agree. If they want to ‘save’ Christmas, get rid of Santa, Reindeer, Frosty the snowman and the that silly tree. Can anybody tell me what any of that has to do with nativity? Anybody? If Christmas were about the birth of christ, I’d have no problem with it whatsover. Unfortunately, it’s about crass commercialism and creating crippling debt. Not a christian myself, but if christians want to have their holiday, then take it back. As it stands now, I am essentially forced to take part in this overly secular holiday. It should be about the birth of the christian savior, not about rioting for the next big toy at Best Buy. Have a Merry Christmas but I’m recognizing Festivus this year.

As a proud and out LIBERAL let me say that Christmas is my favorite holiday. Not because of anything religious, but because of the kindness and generosity it garners among people who are usually less than that. Because of the family ties and family time. Yes Andy, you are senile. You’re still not making any sense and seem to have completely missed the point. You’re totally hypersensitive to “pinkos” and you need to gain some perspective. So you’re okay with the White House sending out their Holiday message without the word Christmas in it?

the ACLU couldn’t step in unless someone in that small town wanted them to. It’s called standing. if the small town doesn’t want to get sued, it should stay out of people’s business and keep separation of church and state.

RW, I really do hate it when the little guy is bullied…for the record I don’t agree with the tactics that the ACLU uses…they are right on par with the NRA…I think the ACLU started out as all great ideas and/or organizations start out as being noble…however somewhere along the lines they as well as other well meaning organizations lose their way.

rw, that’s the point, dumb.a.s.s. why shouldn’t someone be able to sue a town if they have a grievance? if the ACLU takes care of legal representation, what’s wrong with that? or if someone agrees with the ACLU and wants to act as the plaintiff in the suit, what is wrong with that? they’re not forcing people to do anything. you’re the naive one.

keith, groups like that (including the NRA) help prevent a tyranny of the majority. sometimes, majority rule can be in conflict with the rights of a minority. for example, san francisco passed a ban on gun sales which most of the population there supported, but the NRA is suing to have it overturned and will probably win. they are speaking up for gun owners, who happen to be a minority in that city. i don’t think the ACLU is trying to tell YOU how to live YOUR life, but one of the things they do is try to keep the government out of business it shouldn’t be in, like preaching.

keith, our founding fathers wrote about the dangers of “majority rules.” They called it “the tyranny of the majority.” They felt that “we are a nation of laws,” not “a nation of men,” meaning, majority rules, i.e. “democracy,” is a bad form of government. One of the great disservices our public schools and our politicians do is repeatedly use the word “democracy,” because, thank God, we are not (at least electing the Prez). The word was not common in politics until Woodrow Wilson.

My favorite things about fundagelists revolve around their feeling of inherent superiority over everyone else who doesn’t wear a cross on their sleeve, who doesn’t vote the same way that they do, who isn’t white, who disapproves of illegal wars, yet they fail to follow the teachings of the one they profess so strongly to believe in. Jesus worked so that all could be accepted. He taught that camel would sooner get through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter Heaven. Yet these “religious” conservatives worship the dollar more strongly by actions than anything taught in the Bible.

A “tough on crime” approach to criminal justice induced a trend of overcrowded prisons and jails with deteriorating structures and prisoner violence, overwhelmed correctional officers who grow younger and more inexperienced because of accelerated burnout and turnover, and inadequately financed medical care systems, work, education, and drug treatment programs
Socialized medicine means better prison guards, that or just less prisoners.

Growing up the son of a Methodist minister … my best friend was Jewish (although non-practicing until recently). He never had any problems with Christmas and we had a running joke concerning Hanukkah bushes.
However, out of Christian love, I was the one offended when overtly Christian prayers were offered at football games… or the chorus we sang in at school (elementary) performed Christian songs for the school program.
Being ‘politically correct’ is only the starting point (implies your concern is only with government policy… a purely humanistic view), being genuine and morally sensitive is the appropriate reaction. When we as Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindu,… , agnostics and atheists can reach that point… I guess we won’t feel the need to exterminate each other.

At least the ACLU differentiates between legal and illegal immigrants.
It is true that the Constitution does not give foreigners the right to enter the U.S. But once here, it protects them from discrimination based on race and national origin and from arbitrary treatment by the government. Immigrants work and pay taxes; legal immigrants are subject to the military draft. Many immigrants have lived in this country for decades, married U.S. citizens, and raised their U.S.-citizen children. Laws that punish them violate their fundamental right to fair and equal treatment.

NPR, PBS, and the NEA will receive no government funds. If the pinkos want to fund their pet projects, let them use their welfare checks
All farm and business subsidies are ended
The USPS will be farmed out to private companies (although, at least it is Constitutional) because it will be more cost efficient

buff,
Good thing he didn’t tell you to take the other offer.
Your perception on wtf was correct. Strange platform you have there. Why do we get to repeal corporate taxes, but have to fight for the fair tax? If we could change things without Congress, we should just implement HR-25/S-25 as Exec. order 25.
The minimum wage can stay where it is. The only reason the left wants to raise it is because most union contracts automatically raise their wages by the same percentage as a minimum wage increase.

So RW… once the NEA and Department of Education are gone and vouchers available… I guess you would be happy to see Spanish language schools pop up in Texas, California and South Florida… teaching loyalty to the Pope first and the heroics of the Spanish conquest of the Americas. Then we could have French schools in what’s left of Louisiana … and German schools in Minnesota … and gay schools in San Francisco… Before you know it we could recreate Babel right here on what used to be the ‘United’ States.

RW: this is the first arrest.
US reservist on Iraq scam charges A US army officer has been charged over an alleged money-laundering, bribery and fraud scheme in post-war Iraq. Army Reserve Lt Col Michael Wheeler is accused of stealing funds meant for reconstruction projects and accepting money and gifts to rig contracts.
He was responsible for developing contracts and soliciting bids for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq’s Hilla region from 2003-4.
He is expected to plead not guilty, his lawyer was quoted as saying.
Bruce Rosen, quoted by the Boston Globe newspaper, said Lt Col Wheeler had been released from custody and was expected to deny the charges in court.
The 47-year-old officer from Wisconsin was arrested on Wednesday, the US Justice Department said.
Two other people were arrested on similar charges last month.
According to court papers, he and his co-conspirators are accused of accepting money and gifts in exchange for awarding reconstruction contracts.
Firearms accusation
Lt Col Wheeler is also accused of stealing and laundering money from the CPA while on active duty for the authority’s South Central Region.
He and his fellow suspects are accused of using CPA funds to buy dozens of firearms and military-grade hardware for their own use.
An affidavit filed in the US district court says he transported $100,000 back from Iraq to Fort Bragg, California; spending $58,000 of it on a “variety of high-end tools”.
If convicted, Lt Col Wheeler could face up to 30 years in prison.
Last month, Robert Stein, civilian financing officer for the South Central Region in Iraq at the time of the alleged fraud, and Philip Bloom, a contractor for the CPA, were arrested on similar charges.
The US-led administration which governed Iraq between April 2003 and May 2004 was beset by allegations of corruption and political favouritism in contract awards.
Financial auditors said in May that there was no record of how $100m in funding for reconstruction projects since 2003 had been spent.

I would like to know how everyone arrived at their current political affiliations…me personally, i was born in to a low-middle income family, meaning we were strapped for cash but did not receive government assistance. I know that sometimes, people need a little help if they are down, I am against people abusing the system because they make it harder for people that actually need it to obtain it. I like the fact that republicans say they are for less government intrusion, but they want to leave the poor behind also. So many posts. So little time. Whatever happened to the Merry Christmas tiff?
A moment of silence for the 10 Marines who died in Iraq today. Put politics aside, praise their bravery, and mourn their passing.
That reserve Army officer stationed in Iraq arrested for corruption story is such a crock. ONE guy out of, what… 160,000 may be crooked? No, wait! There were 2 others busted the past year. THREE guys!! New York City’s crime rate should be so low. Atlanta’s should be so low.
RW, I like you, but I worry about your fascination with Anne Coulter. She lies at least once in every column. In this one she says Dems in the House rejected Murtha’s Iraq withdrawl plan a week ago. They didn’t. The plan rejected was from the GOP and was so transparently political. And no matter how you twist it, Schmidt called Murtha a coward. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…
And hey everyone! Regarding President Bush’s speech Wednesday? He didn’t say anything new. I didn’t expect him to give a detailed “re-deployment” plan, because who the heck wants to clue that whacky Zarqawi in on US plans? But really, same old same old.
I am a little concerned about the administrations new catch phrases and buzzwords, though. So now our Iraq plan contains 8 pillars?? (nyahh nyahh, Islam only has FIVE pillars!) And now the suicide bombers are no longer “insurgents”, they’re Saddamites?? Bad enough that Mr. Bush once called the Iraq invasion a “crusade”.
Okay, so we mock the insurgent’s religion, and then we label them with a crude pun suggesting they’re homosexual. And what? We expect them to drop their guns and bombs and say, “Golly, you’ve shamed us! We’ll be peaceful now!” Nooooo… you’ve just ticked more of them off, getting fence-sitters to go radical. They pick up more guns, make more bombs and try to kill more Americans. And here I thought psychological warfare was supposed to HELP the US!
I think George Bush is basically an okay guy. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but if he were still drinking, I’d have a beer with him. But his inner circle… Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove, are nuts. The US shouldn’t have invaded Iraq in the first place, but now that we’re there, these guys are doing their DAMNDEST to f—k things up even more. I’d be afraid to let these idiots plan a picnic! If the stories are true, and Bush is becoming disillusioned with his inner circle, I am not surprised.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Matt, great post
gadem, my folks (NeoReo is my Dad and sometimes posts here; sometimes he uses my handle) came out of WWII with nothing but a hard work incentive. NeoReo was a Republican and my Mother a conservative Democrat. But, neither of them voted straight party lines.
I considered myself a Democrat because as a kid I loved JFK. LBJ drove me from the party because of his socialist views and I considered myself an Independent.
I became a Republican in the late 1970s when I wrote my doctoral dissertation on Reagan’s early political philosophy. I loved Reagan, his vision inspired me.
I actually voted for Bill Clinton in’92 because Old Man Bush promised he would not raise taxes, but did.
I voted for Bole in ‘96, Harry Browne in ‘00 (never do that again), and Bednarik in ‘04 (I knew Bush would carry Georgia, so, my vote was symbolic).
I have libertarian values, but consider myself an independent conservative who usually, but not exclusively, votes for the GOP.
We really goofed up when Price beat LaMutt for Congress. LaMutt was my state senator and he was awesome. I am afraid Price is just another big spending Republican, but hope I am wrong.

You’ll love this one IWIWA, also by George Washington:
As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.

gadem, absolutely cut, cut, cut spending. Cut it across the board, except for military, but look for ways to cut it there. Anyone who has ever worked for a govt., fed, state, or local, is aware of the costly budgeting errors, screw ups, and waste. Try firing a federal govt. employee
Andy is right about pubic (omission of “l” was intentional) schools. Ask a recent grad what they think and I imagine you will hear the same thing my college students tell me: “It is a joke, made up of busy work.” If a teacher was ever good at the job, that person is now burned out or depressed because administrators cave in to whiny parents, yada, yada, yada.
My son and his wife are home-schooling their two kids and they will be better for it. It takes sacrifice, but…..

sick: I found some quotes!
“Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the b-astards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. And when we get to Berlin, I am personally going to shoot that paper hanging son-of-a-b-itch Hitler. Tonight, I am very sad.
First: Ten Marines died today in Iraq. They died fighting for the honor of our country and the freedom of Iraq.
Second: Many U.S. citizens betrayed these Marines. These so-called citizens with their anti-war, dishonorable selfish political perceptions and pronouncements have supported the enemy. Yes, you/they helped the enemy that killed our Marines.
The president made it simple in well understood words: “If you aren’t for us, you are against us.” That is “us” as in “citizens of America”.
You can wail “dissent” until sun and sky disappear. I hold you dissenters in pure contempt. You should be called by your correct name, i.e., traitors!

To all, even those that dislike me: if you can, think positive thoughts about me from approximately 8-11 (probaly 12). Tonight, my bride is having a get together, not dinner party (thank God), of her staff people. The most exciting one is a fat, bald, accountant, who can at least get drunk and make an a— of himself. The others are sooooooo boring. They are all professional people, and mostly good at their jobs, but, guzzle my good booze, try to smoke in the house, which I do not allow, and babble like idiot leftists. Most of the women wear that god-awful bright green or pink that is in fashion, and none of the guys life football, hunting, or fishing (which says to me that they are not “real men”). There is this one fat, obnoxious, very ugly (Ruth Bader Ginsberg ugly) woman who pounds down good wine like I do cheap beer, who, when laughs ounds like a braying donkey. She will stay late and have to be driven home. Last year she inferred she wanted to have a threesome with me and my bride. She is the poster child for the “need a barrel of flour,” if you have heard that phrase.
I would much rather be on here being abused by friends, enemies, even Candiae/Midori/heavenly than mixing drinks for these people.

Notice how people who do not believe in the True Living God, express themselves with negative, nasty, hateful words; cursing, name-calling, etc. So sad!
As for separation of Church and State, read the Preambles to State Constitutions, every state mentions Almighty God, the Creator, etc. Here’s a portion of Georgia’s GEORGIA 1887: To perpetuate the principles of free government, insure justice to all, preserve peace, promote the interest and happiness of the citizen, and transmit to posterity the enjoyment of liberty, we, the people of Georgia, relying upon the protection and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
Will the ACLU sue to have all the States’ Preambles rewritten, to exclude “God?”
