We net denizens have heard all the right wing talking points you push a hundred times already.

Neither they, nor your pathetic personaliy attracts.

I do think it is quite informative that you’re masters had to go with trashing another funeral by lying about it.

You’d think they would try to get something unique cooked up.

Rove really is slipping, isn’t he?

Or maybe he’s only had so many lies in the first place and has to start repeating them.

Now go get your dime for posting that crap, but you’re terribly overpaid.

McCleod,

I watched all six and a half hours of the Rosa Parks funeral. I saw Al Sharpton do an excellent job of capturing the magnitude of the moment and laying out a proper challenge to those in attendance. I admit that was a little shocking.

I also saw Bill and Hillary Clinton make self serving speeches, Louis Farrakhan (sp?), and Jessie Jackson give completely over the top tirades that smeared the memory of Mrs. Parks.

In between I saw an endless parade of democratic politicians falling all over themselves to get noticed.

All the while, two white horses stood fully harnessed waiting to pull the caison from the funeral. These horses had to be watered down and repeatedly calmed, as the three hour service dragged to more than double it’s planned time.

Rosa Parks was a great force for change in this country and in ways you will never understand shaped my life and my conservatism. So I watched every minute of her funeral out of respect and will not stand by while you take your cheap disgusting partisan shot at me.

Put down the bottle and pick your fight another day, but don’t dare question ny sincerity in this.

I don’t understand why Dubya is portrayed as having big, stuck-out ears. He has quite normal ears. It is his profile that is disturbing. He has his mother’s small but hooked nose (could he be one-eight Arab or something?); then his brow is monkey-like, denoting perhaps low intelligence, but we knew this already. He looks nothing like his tall, patrician father; although he is six feet tall his physique makes him look little and wide. I do think it all goes back to his b*** mother, one of the dumbest first ladies we have had, although she had one good trait: no sign of believing in astrology. Can you believe it: for 8 years we were ruled through Ronnie Reagan by an astrologer. Reminds me of Renaissance German emperors and Italian despots.

While I am on this roll, let me say that some of our Republican politicians are really physical repulsive. Senator Frist looks like a dog in profile, and of course Princeton did nothing for him. He is as dumb as he looks. He can do heart surgery but medieval men knew that surgeons were no smarter than barbers. Rick Santorum, that paragon of virtue and marital values, looks like a cleaned up Mafia type. Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas looks like he can be trusted to cover up anything the Bush regime doesn’t want revealed. Is there a physiological reason for the mess we are in? Too many dumb Republicans with evangelical genes and little in the way of gray matter.

RW, I salute you for sticking with all 6 1/2 hours - you are certainly one of the few (and maybe the only one) that did. Your passion and sincerity are obvious in your second posting and I respect that. I am curious, and genuinely so, how Ms. Parks “shaped” your conservatism.

I recall clearly the events of the day that were to make her the icon she is today. I recall equally well the prevailing “conservative” attitude of the day and how her single defiant act enraged it. I dare say there are few “conservatives” today who would readily admit to how they really felt back then. I just wonder, RW, is that how Rosa Parks galvanized (or shaped as you say) your conservatism. God, I hope not.

By Anti RW

November 4, 2005 07:27 AM | Link to this

So RW— you watched all 6.5 hours of the Rosa Parks funeral. Hmm…if that were the case, that would likely mean that A) you don’t have a job or B) you have way too much time on your hands. I think Ms. Parks deserves the highest of honors for her contribution to this country, but that’s a long time to watch TV in one sitting.

But I’m most intrigued by your comment on how Rosa Parks shaped your conservatism. That really makes no sense to me. Conservatives do not wish the federal government to have over-reaching power over states rights—so are you saying that the civil rights acts are part of a conservative ideology? I should also mention how so many conservatives from the South supported the civil rights movement. A lot of you conservatives on this forum who are from the south, probably had parents or grandparents who in fact did not support the civil rights movement (see: the socially progressive counties such as Forsyth and Hall). If it wasn’t for the liberals in government and regular citizens who demanded social change, Rosa Parks’ brave actions would not necessarily have led to the critically important civil rights laws passed under LB Johnson. Most conservatives did nothing to support the civil rights movement, if not try to stop it. RW, wake up and smell the coffee. I think there’s a morning show on 96ROCK that really caters to your ignorance.

Aaron Brown was the last sane voice on American cable television news (Sorry, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, fake news may provide sanity to the day but it isn’t real news). Time-Warner has botched so many things with CNN it is no small surprise that they can a real professional. What a sad day for American journalism.

Anti RW: Rosa Parks funeral took 6.5 hours because of all of the blowhard lib politicians releasing all of the pent up hot air nonsense so common to their losing party. For instance, Billy Clinton shared that he, when just a boy of nine years, showed solidarity with Rosa by sitting in the back of the bus.

Out of curiosity RW, how many conservatives or members of Bush’s administration were in attendance at Rosa Parks’ funeral? I didn’t watch the service, and just wanted to know.

If anything, Condoleeza Rice should have been there. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Parks defiance, she would probably be cleaning somebody’s house or working in a segregated society.

Well, Bush did manage to drag Alito to the Rosa Parks Viewing for a photo op! But bush has never met a photo op he can pass up, especially if he can get a minority in there. Mission Accomplished!

Rosa Park fought against the conservative push to keep the status quo. As usual it was the liberals on the winning side as civil rights became law. But liberals always win those battles, no matter what the conservatives say or how they try to demonize liberals. The liberals win on civil rights, women’s rights, environmental rights, voting rights. The conservative fight back, mostly to give corporations rights they never should have, and to take away from the lower and middle class, but they always lose in the end. Why? Because conservatism is only good for the “ruling” class. They use religion to drag rubes with them, but them drop them off when economics come into play. These fools are just too stupid to see how they have been used.

By Ricky

November 4, 2005 08:20 AM | Link to this

Gttim, lets get your facts straight. Most of the members of Congress who voted against the Civil Righs Act were Democrat, including Sen Robert Byrd, a former member of the KKK. So no it wasn’t liberals on the winning side, it was the Republicans. And who initially free the slave, Abe Lincoln, a Republican. It appears you have bought into the Democratic revionist history

Ricky, You’ll have to excuse gttim. He’s just confused. It looks like “GT Tim” appears to be from the old rambling wreck and has succumbed to the double standards down there where the priveliged are allowed to get away with anything and everyone else just has to deal with it.

By Ricky

November 4, 2005 08:31 AM | Link to this

Gttim, here are some more facts for you. 21 Democratic Senators voted against he Civil Rights Act while only 6 Republicans did. While the chief opponents were Democrat Senators Sam Ervin, of later Watergate fame, Albert Gore Sr., and Robert Byrd. Senator Byrd, a former Klansman whom Democrats still call “the conscience of the Senate”, filibustered against the civil rights bill for fourteen straight hours before the final vote. The House of Representatives passed the bill by 289 to 126, a vote in which 79% of Republicans and 63% of Democrats voted yes. The Senate vote was 73 to 27, with 21 Democrats and only 6 Republicans voting no. President Johnson signed the new Civil Rights Act into law on July 2, 1964. Playing the race card and calling Republicans racist is getting old and is just not true.

By Anti Ricky

November 4, 2005 08:39 AM | Link to this

Ricky,

Take a history class, will you? The Democrats who opposed the civil rights legislation are mostly senators from the South. These “Democrats” were not liberals (although some like Byrd became progressive over time). Many southern Democrats from the 60s have similar political ideology as conservative Republicans today.

By candide

November 4, 2005 08:46 AM | Link to this

Yes, it’s unfair to talk about Democrats being against civil rights, since they were southern democrats and now are all republicans. At least southern democrats were consistent in their pro- confederate stance. It is the republicans who were hypocrites, living off Lincoln but really not caring a darn about blacks. The whole Southern strategy of Nixon and Goldwater was to use racism to get votes. They succeeded. Give me an old southern Democrat racist any time rather than a republican racist.

Let’s take a look at today’s racial disparities- which recent administrations/ campaigns have had the most minorities, which political party is calling the oppositions black candidates “oreo cookies,” which party affilition newspapers have drawn Condoleezza Rice has a house slave and a monkey in their political cartoons? Which party would you most expect to play the race card?

And look at how much the democrats have done for their loyal voters over the years, they’ve given them so much.

Who has had more blacks in their administration? Bush has had alot more than Clinton. Big suprise. The Dems just demgogue about advancing the cause of minorities, the Reps are the ones that actually do it. The Dems want to keep the blacks in the status quo because they think that way the will continue to vote heavily Democratic. But things are starting to change. There are more and more conservative blacks running for office. And what do you think will happen to the Democratic party when they stop getting 90% of the black vote? No more Democratic party thats what.

Bill,

I wasn’t able to have my views shaped by the “events of the day” as they unfolded as I was born in 1955.

When I was six years old my family moved to Augusta. One of my earliest memories, of that area, was a gas station that had three rest rooms. Men, women, and colored. I never met a soul that could give me a decent reason for that, until 1974. That someone was Rosa Parks.

Mrs. Parks was one of the most gracious and unpretenious people I had and have ever met. She told me simply that some just didn’t believe all people were equal and one day, if everyone was just treated the same, the day would come that skin color wouldn’t matter. I see conservatives today as most fitting this ideal. Modern day liberals seem to think that minorities, in general, and blacks in particular aren’t capable of success on their own. I find this despicable.

I think the problem with the conservative/liberal labels are the ever changing definitions of the terms.

Some here are saying that all southern Democrats are now Republicans and therefore racist. It wasn’t Republicans that were throwing Oreo cookies at Michael Steele the other day.

Others seem strangely interested in my schedule, I have no idea how this relates to this or, for that matter, any topic. It is amusing, though.

With that, I’ll see you another day. My apologies to ml for derailing the topic of whatever he scribbled today.

As far as the horses go, I think they’d have needed water wherever they were. They got the water.

6 1/2 hours is long, probably too long. Rosa Parks got on a bus, sat down, and said she wouldn’t move. That was a lot quicker, that’s how she’ll be remembered.

Jeff Gannon stayed over on numerous occasions at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. White House overnight trysts were not uncommon, according to Secret Service logs of Jeff Gannon’s White House entries and exits, requested by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) using the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). White House logs furnished by the Secret Service show that the gay fake reporter Jeff Gannon (a.k.a James Guckert) stayed overnight at the White House on many occasions — even when press conferences or briefings were not scheduled.

As Mike so eloquently stated, Mr. Bush has an approval rating among African-Americans of 2%. Is this even possible? It’s too laughable to be possible. That last one by K.B.S. sure was long, and I can’t reproduce stats like that. However, why is Bush supposedly hurt so much by the advisor of his VP, alegedly lying to a grand jury; and liberals choose to forget/ignore the Lying under oath the BOTH of the Clintons did. Bill, about the Monica affair, was a serious crime about a non-serious offense. Valerie Plame’s name being “leaked” is a non-issue as well, since she was not a covert agent at the time, and there is no crime against that. How about the White Water hearings, and the Documents that Hillary “lost” (has done a great job of hiding)?! ONE person in the Bush administration has been indicted. Do the people answering the Polls know or rememmber How many people associated with the Clintons are IN JAIL, or were pardoned by them?! No, probably not. You see, the average american only remembers what the TV told today, or yesterday at best. So, these polls, conducted by the media, reflect what the media wants us to perceive from the “events” of the day. The withdrawal of H Meirs used to try and humiliate Bush, because the liberals are so terified of his next nomination. Meirs was also the target of so many angry conservatives, because she didn’t have the track record that Alito has. So the polls show that “self-described conservatives” are at an all time low in their support. Hangover from Meirs which he will rebound from. My main point, is that the polls reflect what the media has been bombarding the public with for weeks. So now the liberal mainstream media (oxymoron not intended) has it’s “facts” supported by pols, that are heavily influenced by the false impressions they’ve been dishing out. Sad

The investigation into the entire Wilson-Plame affair is a direct result of a request from the CIA to the Justice Department for such an investigation. The CIA, Plame’s employer, found leaking her status to be a serious issue. The Ashcroft Justice Department also apparently found it serious enough to begin an investigation.

The classified memo on Air Force One that contained information about Plame was marked (S), for “secret.”

One thing you manage to do successfully is parrot phrases from the GOP talking points memos, which make the rounds at FOX news and CNN. But in doing so, like I said before, you fail to support them with facts or adequately demonstrate their relevance to each other or to us. I’d like to say “nice try,” but you don’t even merit that.

Anybody who supports Bush is either stupid, ignorant of the facts, or wealthy and greedy.

not true charles- I think many Bush supporters really dont want to look so bad they’ll just regergitate whatever frank Luntz tells them to (most of them have never heard of the man who is putting the words in their mouths either) another thing is guilt- many of them fell for the “Im a Patriot because I do what Im told” ” family values” “bring back the pride” advertizing campaign and (like Bush) they just cant admit they were ever wrong- that would mean they would have to be responsible citizens and Patriots arent responsible citizens in Republican land Tools are-

You people are all morons. You’re arguing over a cartoon. It’s supposed to be funny. So laugh, or don’t. Don’t get into arguements. Don’t you people know you can’t ever win an arguement over politics? Here are some comments for you dipwads. Anti RW: Look who has time on their hands now You’re posting on a forum for a cartoon and being an a-hole. Don’t accuse people of having too much time on their hands when obviously you do too(or you’re not doing your job.)

Ricky: No words can describe how ignorant you are.

I know Mike on a very personal level. He’s a great guy. If you don’t like his cartoons, suck it up.

I’m 14 years old and I have more sense than you people. I found this post very entertaining.

The cartoon in the Tampa Tribune today on Aaron Brown was so true. I wrote a complaint email to CNN last week. I cannot abide Anderson Cooper and to replace Mr. Brown with him is such an insult. Cooper is what I call an “alarmist” reporter. Loves to shock. When he comes on, we turn to another channel.

I am a friend of Aaron Brown, and to begin with, I thought that the way CNN handled his departure was disgraceful. He had a loyal following who he should have had the opportunity to thank for viewing his show these last 4 years. When he had the desk on 9/11, he did a wonderful job for CNN, and was just the person to do the reporting in his style for this tragic event. He will be missed.

Rosa Parks was a great force for change in this country and in ways you will never understand shaped my life and my conservatism. So I watched every minute of her funeral out of respect and will not stand by while you take your cheap disgusting partisan shot at me.

Why can’t we ever stick to the subject matter of the cartoon? Who cares if JoeBob is gay?
