mike feeling guilty

after drawing a cartoon about someone like ralph reed, showing him to be the evil hypocrite that he is, it feels good, as though i’m performing a public service.

sometimes though, after drawing a cartoon, i feel a bit guilty.

such is the case with my newest cartoon on harriet miers, slated to run on sunday.

one of the few things the right and left agree on, is how unqualified this woman is to be on the court. but it’s not her fault she’s in this position. it’s the fault of her ol’ buddy W who nominated her.

she seems like a nice lady, so i feel bad hitting her, but then again, the cartoon, i think, is kind of funny, so i don’t feel THAT bad.

Mike, nothing you could ever draw would do justice to these sleazebags, they deserve all you can dish out. Don’t feel bad, go ahead and draw!

So all conservatives are sleazebags Hal. People like you who write things like that are part of the reason we keep winning elections. But hey I guess its easier to be ignorant and just call names than to actually debate the issues, which conseravites are winning. So keep it up. Maybe one day we can have a healthy debate on facts not just name calling

Mike: You are the greatest! When people enter politics they give up their privacy and can expect to be held accountable by John Q. Public.

Chris, I did not write that all conservatives are sleazebags. That’s par for the course though for people of your ilk, accusing others of writing and saying things they didn’t. And then you call me ignorant and complain about me namecalling. I’ll call you one now and there won’t be any doubt about it - Chris, you’re a hypocrite. As for having a debate on facts, you
wouldn’t recognize a fact if it bit you on the a$$.

Well Mike would know about evil hypocrites, as the AJC editorial board is full of them.

Like Mike, I find that claiming my moral superiority over others “feels good”.

Mike, tell us again about the “holier-than-thou” attitude of Christians. You are just as guilty of judging others, with the exception that your religion is secular relativism.

Hal’s blind rage and hypocrisy are standard for the extreme left. Sad to see so many folks are so bitter and uninformed. I guess Hal gets all of his news (propoganda?) from the Al Jazeera Constitution.

How can anyone doubt that Republicans are evil? They have gotten a war without justification, they have lied, cheated, and stolen. They are from hell. We should call them Fascisti.

Sorry, Candide. We don’t burn people at the stake in the United States. Just too messy. You will have to think of some other way to send Republicans to their “proper” place.

Thanks candide for demonstrating once again how hateful the angry left can be.

Sure candide, anyone who disagrees with you is evil. It must be so easy for you and Mike. By demonizing any who disagree with you, you don’t ever have to stretch your brain by considering the opinions of others. Kudos!

Candide, Republicans aren’t evil. It might be helpful if you understand that the partisans (Republicans) can’t “get itâ€?. It’s impossible for them to get it. They’re limited .. not by ideology, which could be considered admirable, even if wrong-headed, but by partisanship, which is shallow. Their myopia limits their perception of the real world and that lack of understanding, peppered by a dearth of compassion, tends to make their impulsive, half-baked ideas seem bitter, selfish and intimidating.

Yonak,

What you describe are the attrubutes and behaviors of extremists on both sides of the political spectrum.

You identify yourself as an extremist by truly beleiving that only the right has an extremist element.

The real divide is between right and left. It is between moderates and the extremists on both sides who label those who don’t share their narrow views as “evil” or “dumb” and make gross overgeneralizations about tens of millions of people. We know which side you and Luckovich are on.

It is funny that the left likes to hold themselves up as intellectually superior when so many of their spokesmen like Yonakm, Candide and Luckovich rely on calling others “bad” and relying on ignorant hatred.

Mike, I couldn’t disagree more. I’m not referring to extremists, I’m referring to partisans. You can’t make me believe for a moment that you don’t really, honestly believe that the vast majority of the partisans are Republicans. Republicans hate liberals, almost by definition, whereas, the largest majority of liberals are too busy trying (against the bull-rush of the partisans) to solve real-world problems to involve themselves in such shallow hatred. Please try to work with us. We can’t make this world a better place to live with you dragging on us like this.

What a ridiculous argument. If you want to see blind partisanship and extremism on display, you only have to say two words to a Bush Republican: Hillary Clinton. If you want to read extremist screeds, there are plenty on from the left, but none begins to approach the acrimonious partisanship of Ms. Coulter. Mr. Rove has so polarized American politics that there are no moderates left. Either you swallow the whole of the Bush agenda or you are labeled a traitor.

I think it was staged. She was trotted out, Reps. were prompted to object - that guaranteed her rejection.

Then Bush can bring out his real choice, a non-ethnic man, and say, “You wanted a woman, I brought you a woman, and you turned her away, there is just no pleasing you. I rule.”

But once again Mike - As you point out that you “feel bad” about a cartoon that contains a particular target I have to wonder if you have any MORE enjoyment in going after “Right-wing” subjects than you do “Left-wing” subjects?

When there is a subject at hand in which both sides of the political array have chimed in on their perspective 90% of the time you will develop a cartoon that makes a mockery of the right’s position.

(Glenn McCoy is a photographic negative of your bias by the way)

I don’t agree AT ALL with Mike’s politics. But I love his talent and sense of humor. And the one on Miers is right on. She’s not qualified, vis-a-vis her peers. She is this Bush’s Dan Quayle.

Mike, you’re doing yourself an injustice if you let your personal feelings override a thought provoking statement. It’s too easy to beat-up on Harriet Miers, Geo Bush, whoever, by illustrating the obvious. Make me and your readers think. Force us to discover a new idea or viewpoint with your editorial wit. Make us think. Make us feel uncomfortable with ourselves. Say something that hasn’t been said before.

No need to feel guilty - W (The Worst) may have nominated her and placed her in the spotlight but she accepted, has not withdrawn and therefore deserves no special favors or consideration.
