pro bush ‘toon

after receiving complaints that i’m unfair to president bush, i offered any of you folks who think bush is doing a great job (and that means both of you) the opportunity to come up with a pro-bush cartoon idea that i will illustrate exactly as described and post here on this site for a full week.

the winner will also receive the original drawing.

so far, there have been no takers i’m aware of. this is the time for you to put up or shut up and no one’s responded.

c’mon, if you think bush is a good president, you obviously have a sense of humor, so post an idea my way and it may get chosen. after all, it’s not like there’s a lot of competition.

Maybe you could do a cartoon on the DNC platform. For example, it could be a blank window.

In contrast you could show Bush as a visionary who won’t be fully apreciated for many years to come.

Perhaps you could also compare the media of today with those of every Republican president since Eisenhower. Do you guys ever come up with any new and creative arguments?

Maybe you should learn to read, Mike. I posted a suggestion and on the same day another person whom I think was named Ben, posted several. Maybe you are not accustomed to reading anything conservative (or constructive). Shows.

Well, listen, I absolutely love my President. It’s wonderful to have a real Man’s Man back in the White House, someone who’ll kick a* and take names, and who won’t get into any messy situations by doing something gross and nasty like having sex with women or horrible stuff like that.

Anyway, back in the day (okay, elementary school), I did some cartooning of my own. So here’s my idea:

The background is a huge globe, focusing on, as is proper, the USA. On the East Coast, about where NYC is, there should be two burning towers. Down by the Gulf Coast, there should be a modern representation of New Orleans — lots of water, black people looking broke and sad. On the West Coast — well, I can’t think of anything to go there, but we can’t forget our troops in Iraq, so let’s put a bunch of crosses there, just to fill in the space.

Sitting on the USA is a huge golden throne, and seated on the throne is God in all his glory, but he has the face of George W. Bush, as is proper.

In the word balloon, God says, “This is My nation, with which I am well-pleased!”

Glory, hallelujah, it’s a great time to be a Republican!

Hey Mike, the only thing I can think of for a positive Shrub accomplishment is the “No-Call List” being implemented. Sure has cut down on some of those pesky telemarketers just trying to make a living during my supper time. I’m not a good cartoonist, but maybe you could draw a woman who’s not real pleased with Shrub and the chaos he has created here in America and around the world, but he sure helps her have a quiet supper time now!

Mike, Read your comments. How ‘bout Bush standing on a compass pointing straight “N”. Saw what you want but he gives us what he said he would, an unwavering direction in the war on terror. Can’t say the same for ANY demoRAT, sans Zell Miller and Ed Koch.

Mike: Congratulations… Cartoons and music forever reveal the feeling and interpret the emotions of a nation. Freedom of expression is their creators’ most valuable asset. Capitalism stimulates the fortunate ones with talent to create and for the ones that dislike it… then do not buy the paper or turn-off your set. As a better option you can also try to participate in the creation process and learn from it.

There were several people who posted ideas, Mike. I came back looking for your acknowledgement of which idea you were going to use and instead I found a very smug statement saying that you got nothing and all us non-liberals (I’m not a Republican) never took the bait.

You are the cartoonist. If lots of other people could come up with the ideas, we’d go after your job. I frankly don’t think you could do my job very well because it requires objectivity.

Mike,

Your challenge is intellectually dishonest. Political cartoons are never pro-any politician.

Why don’t you address the actual complaint and explain why NO democrats are ever the subject of your ire.

Or are we to assume that you can find nothing to parody in Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, Reid or Pelosi. It is reasonable for we readers to assume that your singular attacks on Bush have less to do with any reasoned criticism than they do with your narrow and provincial worldview.

Mike, below is my suggestion

President Bush has appointed more minorities to high level positions in government than any other president in history yet all of the so called minority leaders keep slamming him as a racist. I just cannot see it?

“Show President Bush eating at a dinner table with all of his minority appointees and staff members having a good time, while Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and other so-called black leaders protest out side calling him a racist!”

If I win the contast I will need a way to get in touch with you for my prize. I do not want to post my email address on this site.

Mike,

I agree with many posters that it’s silly to come up with an idea for a positive cartoon, especially if you are going to be the cartoonist. All we want is for you to parody the left as well.

That being said try this. There was a young black girl walking with her mother in Biloxi after Katrina. She had the look you would expect in a child that thought her whole world had vanished and would probably never be the same. President Bush put his arms around her and talked to her. Watching the video you could see that girls whole world view change and the beaming smile was priceless.

That is what we see in President Bush, a real man that really does feel the pain of others, but does more about it than bite his lip and cry.

Take today’s catoon and make the following changes:

I don’t think this is a good idea. Why should you draw something postive about which you clearly disagree? Do you feel that the President has done anything right over the last 5 years? If so, then draw it as you see it. If not, then keep drawing him as you see fit. You can’t please multiple masters, so go with your conscience. If the results stink, so be it.

Since Sly just announced he will be making Rocky 6, draw the cartoon to look like a Movie poster ala Rocky 4. With The Prez draped in the flag and the movie titled IRAQI 4. And you can use the taglines from the original movie depending if you are pro-Bush or anti-Bush. Pro - When Middle East meets West, The Champion Remains Standing. Anti-Bush : Get Ready for the next world war.

Mike, Mike, Mike…

I usually like your stuff, but to be completely honest, you pretty much shot yourself in the foot with this post.

Anyway, there’s no way for you to make a pro Bush cartoon because 1) You won’t actually mean it, and 2)It only amounts to the level of @$$kissing (just like Wally Whateley proved to everyone).

However, this is something that you should definitively do or try to do: A cartoon that shows that politics are a vicious circle that cycles every 8 years.

Remember how conservatives keep complaining about liberals whinning about the president’s actions towards war in Iraq? Well, check this out:

*Quotes from Republicans when Clinton committed troops to Bosnia:

“You can support the troops but not the president.” -Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

“Well, I just think it’s a bad idea. What’s going to happen is they’re going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years.” -Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

“Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?” -Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

“[The] President…is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation’s armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy.” -Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

“American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy.” -Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

“If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy.” -Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

“I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning…I didn’t think we had done enough in the diplomatic area.” -Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

“I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today” -Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)*

  • “Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is.” -Governor George W. Bush (R-TX) *

Case in point, both liberals and conservatives are guilty of being hypocrits…

Mike great job. I see that instead of a suggestion for a positive cartoon about the job Bush has done, you are getting character assasinations. There is also the usual whining about we want equal bashing of liberals. Hey the point is that for almost 8 years this country has had Republicans in every major office. Bush should have a cake walk of a presidency. Clinton had to battle the legislative body his entire terms as president.

It is just the luck of the draw(pun intended) that when you have one party dominating every aspect of government they will appear more often in political cartoons. As I told a staunch Republican before the 2000 elections, ” I hope that the whole thing becomes Republican, then maybe the whining will stop” The whining continued. Clinton’s name has been mentioned again and again. No one stops to think that our legislative body was control by republicans who were spending their time getting divorces and investigating Clinton’s sexual practices.

It is not easy being the leader. Whe you shoot for the role be prepared to take the bumps that come with it.

How about this for a cartoon idea, Mike? Presidents Bush and Clinton together touting their accomplishments while in office, with the liberal media as judge:

Bush: “I liberated 30 million people in Afghanistan and 26 million people in Iraq from brutal dictatorships and helped the people in these countries to have the first democratic elections in history.

Clinton: “I liberated a fugitive tax evader.

Media: “No contest. It took real courage to pardon Marc Rich.

The way I see it Mr. Mike you owe the AJC readers about 5 years of Non-bush bashing cartoons not just one week. So why not go back 5 years and do some cartoons on that material, like show Bush crushing John Kerry with Hob nail boot or something after the 2nd election.

Use any standard; national security, the economy, foreign affairs, personal integrity, bush has been a miserable failure all his life! His resume includes, drunken and drugged out college days, his military career as a drafting dodging deserter, habitually failed businessman, and the guy who ignored the 9/11 warnings to create the worst failure of national security in history! Dear Mr. Luckovich, I am not a staunch Bush supporter, but I am more on his side than the other side; nevertheless, I don’t think I’m old enough to be too partisan. Anyway, here are my 4 ideas for a pro-Bush cartoon: 1)Have John Q. Public and his wife looking at a TV screen, which shows “New 007 Chosen” and it will have a picture of Bush on right next to the headline in that great way you draw him & the man can say “they always look for a manly Bond”…this portrays Bush as rugged, manly, and “on a mission” 2)Have Bush in clothes like the Exorcist (Father Merrin) with a Bible and having it faced to a bed-ridden Uncle Sam, and Bush can say “I cast you out!” and a donkey or similar symbol (to represent a liberal) could come out (If this is not possible then have Harriet Miers or even Karl Rove in Bush’s place and maybe make Bush Father Karras, who was the other guy!) 3)Have Bush and Rove as Wallace & Gromitt in light of the recent movies (maybe put them in the same look with Bush as the man and Rove as the dog) and have them with pest control items pointed at a liberal donkey in a suit 4)In light of the new Doom movie you could have Bush sleeping in his office with his legs on the desk and his hands behind his head in a leisurely position with a newspaper on the desk reading “Doom Released” and he has a think bubble rising from his head in which there is an abortion clinic with a big sign that says “Abortion Clinic OPEN” Those are my ideas sir if you think you need more please don’t hesitate to contact me. By the way, you are my favorite cartoonist! Thanks, Neil Manimala

how about one day you have Bush pulling a drowning woman from a stream( have the woman labeled iraq) and have ted kennedy sitting on the sidelines falling off his horse (like lee marvin) with a bottle in his hand yelling ” it’s no use George, just let go come have a drink and call your lawyer tomorrow.

Then you could have a picture of a flooded area labeled Katrina problems and have Bush up to his waist in water bucketing out water, while Jesse Jackson, John Kerry, Jimmy Carter, and Calypso Louie are on the bank waiting in line at a portable toilet which has a line leading into the same water

Don’t you worry about those neo-cons…they won’t be happy until everybody is assigned a nice brown shirt to match their compassionate politics. Hey maybe that could be a cartoon suggestion? Lines of mindless ditto-heads waiting for their “leader” to return from his post-alcohol-withdrawal-bikeride.

After sitting for several minutes and thinking about what the president does well, I have really only come up with one idea… He is good at avoiding disaster or at least “spinning” a situation so that it sounds like he did well. I have other ideas, but they all sound quite negative… He used to be good at drinking alcohol and partying, he’s good at “pointing the finger” at others even though he should take responsibility for a mistake, he’s good at messing up speeches, he’s good at angering people that live in Europe, and he’s good at starting wars.

So, I guess my idea for a political cartoon would have to be G.W. walking into a room (a courtroom or other political office) or New Orleans or other war-torn area saying, “Let’s party like it’s 1999!”

Ted Kennedy speaking saying “George Bush LIED about WMDs”. An OLD newspaper lays at his feet with a headline of President Bill Clinton saying that he has launched a missle attack to destory “Iraqi’s Nuclear and Biological Weapons Capabilities”.

Two frames: 1st frame: A Muslim Cleric condemns the USA for “desecrate the Qua’ran”.

Mike:

See Dusty (October 17) comment up top. He is right. I did post some ideas, along with a nice handful of others. And then you claim you have seen none, and you state, “put up or shut up.”

You know d@mn well those posts were made and you are such a coward that you can’t even acknowledge it. How surprising…a liberal who is also a backpedaling coward.

And no, I am not some “Bush-licking neo-con.” I am actually a libertarian who has plenty of problems with Bush. And unlike you, my problems with the man are based on fact, and not bloated anti-American propoganda.

You put up the “challenge for someone to post a cartoon to show something positive Bush has done,” knowing political cartoons NEVER fit that criteria. You figured you’d stump people and claim some sort of intellectual victory. It blew up in your face, everyone called you out on it, and even some people posted ideas and took up your challenge. But you ignored them and continued to insult them. Now it is painfully obvious that not only are you an uninformed political hack who continues to feed the liberal agenda to your ignorant fans, you are also a jerk who insults your audience.

Like I stated in an earlier post, some of your cartoons are actually really funny. But now that you have exposed yourself to be a bitter cry-baby, they don’t seem so funny anymore.

Be playful, not hateful. Until you and the rest of the liberals understand and acknolwedge that advice, you will continue to lose elections.

Have a nice day.

NO apaches. NO strykers. NO bradleys. Does anyone with a brain see this? That army will never be able to “stand up” when the US is too afraid to give them weapons systems that will end up killing theor own people? Get real people! We will NEVER be free of that place as long as this continues. maybe you boot licking, Bush lovers should ask Rummy to equip the Iraqi military so they can defend themselves. Make sense? Mike,

Here’s my idea for a cartoon, in two frames. Frame one: A group of people are standing around celebrating beneath a sign that says “2000”. Champagne is flowing, noisemakers blowing, people are wearing party hats and the like, and there is a caption below that reads, “1/1/00”. Frame two: basically the same as the first, but this time it’s a bunch of leftists and assorted hippies celebrating under a big sign that says “2000”. The caption this time reads, “10/25/05”.

No, it’s not too funny or clever, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem for you. And take heart, leftists; most of those 2000 dead voted for Bush—probably the cause for all your celebration.
