Immigration: Both parties cave on this vital issue

The gleeful open-borders/amnesty coalition of big business, big religion and the radical far left ethnic lobby is virtually assured of another legalization proposal for illegal aliens —- and their employers —- from Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Teddy Kennedy and Barack Obama. We have only to wait until November to see who will be president. There should be no doubt about the priority of repeating the failed amnesty of 1986. The GOP management is willing to commit political suicide by putting more than 20 million mostly future Democratic voters on a path to citizenship —- on orders from their corporate bosses. Follow the money.

The Republicans have begun a game of chicken with their base. The Dems will be the political benefactors and the American people will fight and defeat the coming amnesty attempt. Again.

On border security and illegal immigration, it really doesn't matter who is elected president.

Game on!

Huckabee steadfast in his convictions

The funny thing is, now that my candidate, Mike Huckabee, has officially lost, I don't feel any bitterness. I think this is because Huckabee believed in himself, remained true to his convictions and actually listened to his supporters when we wanted him to continue. We believe in the things Mike Huckabee stands for: serious tax reform in the FairTax; a real commitment to the energy resources of the United States and energy independence from foreigners; the Human Life Amendment to defend the Constitution from activist judges and protect the inalienable and God-given right to life of pre-born human beings; a Veterans' Bill of Rights, allocating 6 percent of our budget to the military like Reagan did; investing in our infrastructure; a written pledge to secure our borders and never allow amnesty; "vertical politics," which means helping all of our citizens move up; and much, much more. Thank you, Mike.

Fulton tax office shows ineptitude

On Monday, several hundred taxpaying citizens wasted hours at the North Fulton Annex due to an unclear letter from the tax commissioner's office. We received it Saturday, leaving us no time to react before the deadline. The letter was unclear and implied that everyone needed to file homestead exemptions. The homestead exemption office was overwhelmed by our presence at the annex.

I have four complaints about how taxpayers were treated: We did not receive the letter until one day before the filing deadline. The letter was not dated. The letter was vague and implied that everyone had to re-file. The letter did not state what we needed to bring: ID to prove residency and a W2 for those filing for a monetary exemption. The tax department handled this matter in an inept and untimely way and we, the taxpaying homeowners, were extremely irritated to be treated like this.

In any language, a very smart move

It was encouraging to see there are people with foresight in Georgia who feel that learning a foreign language is important. With the world shrinking and the need for communications so pronounced, it seemed a pity that Gov. Sonny Perdue gave up on foreign language several months ago.

It is great that there are people in this state who feel it's time to move ahead and not remain behind, as we appear to be in so many educational matters. Three cheers for Spanish, French and Chinese!
