The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

President Obama on Thursday nominated Sally Yates to be the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

A longtime assistant U.S. attorney, Yates has been the interim U.S. attorney since August, when her predecessor, David Nahmias, resigned to take a seat on the Georgia Supreme Court.

A 1982 graduate of the University of Georgia and a 1986 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Yates is perhaps best known for prosecuting former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell in a public corruption case.

Yates was an associate at King & Spalding before becoming an assistant U.S. attorney in 1989.
