Wrong-way crash critically injures driver, shuts down I-85
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An alleged wrong-way driver was critically injured in a crash that shut down I-85 northeast of metro Atlanta early Friday.
Channel 2 Action News reported that the woman was driving a Ford Explorer going south in the northbound lanes of I-85 near Braselton in Jackson County when she clipped a tractor-trailer, then hit a second 18-wheeler and a Chevrolet van.
The woman was ejected from the SUV and critically injured. Her name has not been released.
No other serious injuries were reported.
Channel 2 reported that police suspect alcohol was involved in the crash.
The highway was closed for about two hours while hazmat crews cleaned up fuel that spilled from one of the trucks, but had reopened by 5 a.m.
