The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Southbound travelers heading toward Atlanta this weekend might want to forget that Interstates ever existed.

Crews are scheduled to begin repaving the northern tip of the Downtown Connector, meaning several southbound lanes will close near the Brookwood Merge, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, the three inside lanes of I-85 southbound, including the HOV lane, will close, from the Peachtree Street Overpass to 10th Street. But expect backups before that.

Also, on I-75 southbound, the HOV lane is slated to shut down from about the Northside Drive overpass to 10th Street. The closures should lift by 5 a.m. Monday.

That’s all in addition to another project in Cobb this weekend that will close a ramp from I-75 southbound to the eastbound Perimeter.

The Connector re-paving work is expected to close lanes of I-75/I-85 over at least 10 weekends, but not over Labor Day weekendm, according to DOT.
