Virginia woman killed by flying tire in I-285 car accident
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 56-year-old woman from Virginia was killed Thursday in a major car accident that shut down all lanes of I-285 West at Bouldercrest Road.
Debra Driscoll was killed when her Hyundai Sonata was struck by a flying tire as she traveled westbound on 285.
The rear left tire of a Georgia State University passenger van traveling eastbound on I-285 came off and crossed the median wall, striking Driscoll's car.
“A second car was struck by the tire,” Parish said. “This car only received front end damages.”
In addition to the westbound closure, at least two lanes of 285 eastbound also were shut down. Drivers were routed onto the Bouldercrest exit.
All lanes have been reopened, DeKalb police spokesman Jason Gagnon told the AJC.
